1. I am the top pick.

2. The Shadow knows

3. Bitch!

4. - Okay.

5. Hector.

6. I thought you were supposed to be at boot camp.

7. You know, I was gonna shoot your ass.

8. I ought to rearrange your face.

9. That's what I should do.

10. What the fuck is with that durag on your head anyway?

11. I don't know what the hell

12. you are doing at my crib.

13. But I want this shit...

14. out of my room.

15. What you mean shit?

16. What shit?

17. This shit.

18. It's fucking garbage.

19. Hey, this isn't garbage.

20. This is something that you don't get to see

21. in the infantry, my man.

22. People are sick of it.

23. Have you been busted for this yet?

24. Never, never.

25. You mean to tell me that I'm busting my ass,

26. I'm sending money home for you and Mom...

33. This.

34. Yo, Chico, um...

35. Is Connie inside the store?

36. She ain't here, bro. What's up?

37. Hey, I just wanted to find out

38. if they needed any help in the store

39. or anything, you know.

40. Let me tell you,

41. Connie don't have no jobs but this one.

42. And I don't think you're man enough to take it from me.

43. If you really needed a job, you would've came here last week

44. when all them graffiti guys got together

45. and painted this mural.

46. They got some green off of that.

47. Yo, I don't hang out with those guys.

48. Man, I ain't got nothing to do with those dudes.

49. And then I saw your female with them, too.

50. What's up with her?

51. I've been hearing that she's been giving that stuff out

52. to all them graffiti guys.

53. Yo, shut the fuck up, Chico, man.

54. I could paint three of those murals

55. for some of that ass.

56. Yo, you wouldn't have a chance in a million, chump.

57. [Z-Roc] Oh, shit.

58. So, that's Zoro.

59. Way up there, by the true blue.

60. Yeah.

61. Crash.

62. You should, like, uh, see to that.

63. Give these, over here, these stuck over paint,

64. are fillin' again.

65. 'Cause, like, that brick's also fucked up.

66. Don't get drips now.

67. Drips?

68. - Don't worry about it. Yes, drips.

69. Yo, Red. What?

70. What you doing? - 'Cause you're not covering.

71. - You're not using too much. Are you crazy?

72. You're gonna get that filled in more, right?

73. Hey, Rose!

74. Rose!

75. Yo, I'll see you guys later, man.

76. All right, man. Nice to meet you, man.

77. All right, I'll check you out, man, you're cool.

78. All right.

79. [Z-Roc] Yo, man. Wait up, I just wanna talk to you, man.

80. I wanna talk to you about the Union.

81. What about the Union?

82. I don't wanna talk about those guys.

83. [Z-Roc] These guys are making a lot of money, man.

84. I think you should be down with this.

85. [Z-Roc] The guy who paid them is only around at night,

86. when the place opens up.

87. This big black dude, uh,

88. I think his name is Phade.

89. Oh, shit! Phade?

90. I know that guy.

91. [Z-Roc] Yo, this is only the beginning

92. of what the Union guys are gonna do for money.

93. 'Cause when this article comes out—

94. What article? - [Z-Roc] Yo, this lady reporter,

95. her name is Virginia.

96. She's coming to interview them tomorrow, at the Dixie Mural.

97. If she's doing something on the Union,

98. then obviously, she's gonna do,

99. like, their pictures,

100. and they don't even got whole cars rollin'.

101. They don't even know what whole car is.

102. [Z-Roc] The lady said that some museum

103. might be interested in their work.

104. What work?

105. [Z-Roc] They're doing graffiti, on canvas.

106. So now they're making graffiti on canvas?

107. Graffiti ain't canvases.

108. Graffiti's on the trains and on the walls.

109. And they ain't got nothing to talk about.

110. Ah!

111. I like that.

112. Completely brand-new.

113. And being a graffiti writer

114. is taking the chances and shit.

115. Taking the risks.

116. Taking, like, all the arguments from the transit,

117. from the police, from your own mom, you know.

118. From your friends and shit.

119. You know, you gotta take all that bullshit.

120. "Ah, you're vandalizing on the street."

121. I remember when Butch and Kase

122. were really bombing with nice whole cars.

123. And Pnut and Tracy was king of the D's.

124. And Caine 1 was really whole-carring

125. on the damn 7 line.

126. [Z-Roc] Oh, shit. That looks brand-new

127. with the windows and all.

128. That's the newest stuff I've seen.

129. How can you call people that hang out in windows

130. and watch trains riders, man?

131. You gotta write. You gotta do the action, man, you know?

132. You gotta go out there, rack up!

133. You gotta go out and paint.

134. And be called an outlaw at the same time.

135. Yo, Phade is in there?

136. - Hey, my man. - My main man.

137. How are you, man?

138. Hey, man. - It's good to see you, man.

139. Hey, you got your telephone hooked up and all that.

140. Rolodex, secretary.

141. But that stunner, she on vacation,

142. - you know what I'm saying. Yeah.

143. She out on an island, coolin' out.

144. And I'm like runnin' things, you know what I'm sayin'.

145. Yeah. - I'm chillin' most, man.

146. Bein' a host, coast to coast.

147. You know what I'm sayin'.

148. Remember that night, we had to climb

149. on top of the train, right?

150. And the train pulled out?

151. Yeah, it's okay, man.

152. I'm still painting though, man.

153. Yeah, man. You got them nice

154. Zoro whole cars runnin'.

155. Yo, yo.

156. You gotta keep that quiet, man.

157. But I know the deal.

158. Man, you doin' this incredible wild style stuff.

159. That's why I was like, so happy

160. to see you do that piece outside, man.

161. Nah, I didn't do that, man.

162. What?

163. That's crazy, man. That ain't my drawing, man.

164. Bitin' your style, man.

165. And they comin' out here, makin' money

166. like tryin' to hustle me, man.

167. Scooby-doo.

168. Suckas in Times Square, man,

169. you can make dollars playing this game, man.

170. Now, watch this, chase this,

171. see where I place it.

172. I said it's always that red and never that black.

173. So, watch it, chase it, see where I place it.

174. Always the red, never that black.

175. When you find the black, you get nothin' back.

176. Find the red, you get paid on the head.

177. It's this one, is it?

178. Yo, man. You see, man?

179. I'm losing already, man.

180. Come on, you gonna make me some money? I wanna paint, man.

181. I don't wanna play cards for the rest of my life, man.

182. Now, watch the red. I said around and around,

183. and around it goes.

184. When you find the red, your money grows,

185. when you find the black you get nothing back.

186. Hey, look, man.

187. When you find the black, you don't get nothin' back.

188. Imma do it slow.

189. To make your money grow.

190. Damn.

191. Do you know about this lady reporter

192. that's comin' tomorrow?

193. You serious?

194. Now, I heard that she's gonna make a story on graffiti

195. and the rap scene and whatnot.

196. Hey, man, it's about time we got some publicity

434. I don't think he's totally, like,

435. straightforward with you, you know what I'm saying?

436. What are you talking about? He's a great guy, man.

506. Um...

507. I got this project going down,

508. you know, we're gonna throw this jam, this weekend.

509. - Hmm. Right?

510. Now, you know the band show in the park,

511. on Avenue A and Seventh Street?

512. You mean, off the Lower East Side?

513. That big thing by the river.

514. - Uh-huh. Yeah. - It's like a big dome.

515. - I've seen that. - You know.

516. - Right. - Mm-hmm.

517. Well, we wanted to get that thing painted,

518. 'cause we got ourselves a jam there.

519. - Mm-hmm. - See?

520. The baddest graffiti guys would be hangin' out here.

521. We got all the rap musicians.

522. Cold Crush Brothers, Fantastic Five,

523. Busy Bee, Little Rodney Cee.

524. - Yeah, that's good. - Why not, man?

525. I can rap to the people that ask me, man.

526. I think, I'm thinkin' it can happen.

527. - Is that cool? - I think it can happen.

528. - Okay.

529. Uh, excuse me over there.

530. - Do one of y'all have the time? Nah.

531. It's a chilly night out here, ain't it?

532. - Yeah, really. - Yeah.

533. So, what y'all up to?

534. - Oh, nothing. - Exactly.

535. They look good don't they, fellas?

536. Yeah, I'm serious.

537. It's this lady here.

538. Smoke?

539. Um, yeah, like...

540. Well, uh,

541. I think I got, um, had enough.

542. How 'bout sniffin'? You sniff?

543. Well, not right now, I don't think.

544. We gotta get in the car.

545. - Why is that?

546. Well, we're, we're sort of busy.

547. We have another party we have to go to.

548. It's like that then, huh?

549. Look, peep, you heard it on the radio,

550. you seen it on a TV show.

551. A to the K.

552. A to the motherfuckin' Z.

553. Hey, hey! What's up? What's up!

554. Hey, man. These people cool, man.

555. Yo, what's up, Phade? These your friends?

556. This is Virginia. She's a reporter, man.

557. They all right. They cool, homey.

558. This my man, Ray, here.

559. Ain't no need for this.

560. Yo, man. I'm sorry, man.

561. I had no idea they was your friends.

562. It's all right, man. Don't worry about it, you know.

563. I'm sorry about that, Phade.

564. You know how that goes.

565. Prepare to meet

566. some very important people there.

567. And they're dyin' to meet you.

568. You're gonna be the hottest thing at this party.

569. I just can't believe that these people

570. are just getting so interested

571. in graffiti all of a sudden.

572. Listen, these people are ready for new thrills.

573. There's gonna be

574. some influential people there, man.

575. Just trust me, Raymond.

576. I'm gonna make you into a millionaire.

577. Wait until I tell everybody at the party

578. how we almost got killed!

579. They'll love it.

580. I had no idea what these people were talking about.

581. It was out of the blue.

582. And I'm sure you would have felt the same way

583. if you'd been unlucky enough—

584. Hey, how you doin'?

585. Excuse me for interruptin'.

586. I'm Phade.

587. I came down with Virginia.

588. - Hi. - The journalist.

589. - You must be— - Hi, I'm Niva.

590. - You're Niva? - Right.

591. Your place is really incredible.

592. I mean, you got, like, all this cool, modern art in here.

593. Mm-hmm. - It's crazy.

594. Hey, what do you do?

595. Hm. I'm in the art business.

596. I run that little museum down the street.

597. What's, what's the name of it?

598. - The Whitley. - Really?

599. Can I call you Zoro?

600. No, no. It'll be better off if you just call me Raymond.

601. Raymond, you can't paint them in the subway stations.

602. Well, graffiti has its own spots.

603. You need special places? Like, at night,

604. you have to sneak in?

605. You can say that.

606. Well, if you work in the dark,

607. how can you see what you're painting?

608. Well, I can't see what I'm painting,

609. but I do know what I'm drawing.

610. And I know my colors by heart already.

611. You ever get chased?

612. - Caught? - Yeah.

613. I've gotten chased so many times,

614. but the knuckleheads never got to catch me, you know.

615. But you should see his work, because—

616. I've probably seen it. We spent 50,000 dollars

617. last year, removing graffiti from the side of our...

618. building.

619. Bro, I'm sure Zoro's work wasn't on the facade of your building,

620. but you should check out his painting, man.

621. - I think I remember seeing a Z. - It's really strong stuff.

622. You know?

623. Rap music?

624. Yeah, like, you know, the MCs,

625. they get up on the mic.

626. And they like, shout at everybody, you know,

627. "Everybody say, 'Ho!'".

628. "Say, ho!"

629. I'll give you my card. I'll...

630. Wait, wait. Zoro's over there.

631. Let me go rap to him for a minute.

632. I'm leaving tonight, I'm going to Europe.

633. I'll be away for six straight months,

634. but when I get back, you bring him to see me

635. and I'll remember your face. I never forget a face.

636. - All right? Okay.

637. Nice to meet you, Flange.

638. He was just telling me about the rap convention

639. they're having at Delancey school.

640. Yeah, the rap convention.

641. You should come down, it's gonna be wild.

642. I'd love to. I was thinking of bringing some cameras down.

643. I'm doing a...

644. - Cameras? Really? - ... TV special.

645. Oh. TV special.

646. - Yeah, I'm on TV. - Oh, really?

647. There's someone you should definitely talk to.

648. He came down with me and Ray.

649. - Yeah, we met earlier. - Yeah, we met earlier.

650. How you doing?

651. I was just talking to Raymond here about...

652. - About the convention. - ... possibly doing

653. - a TV special. - Yeah.

654. It's gonna be really sick.

655. By the way, Raymond, um, Niva,

656. the host of the party, wants to talk to you.

657. She's right over there.

658. Okay.

659. Yeah, it's really...

660. I think this is really gonna be a big one.

661. He's an incredible graffiti artist.

662. Yeah, he's like, he's really good.

663. I'm pretty good, too.

664. I'm Niva, nice meeting you.

665. - Nice to meet you. - So, this is Neil.

666. Zoro, Neil.

667. - How you doing? - Pleased to meet you.

668. I've heard a lot about you.

669. - Oh, you have? - Yeah.

670. Uh, Neil, would you do me a favor,

671. - and get me another drink? - Certainly, darling.

672. Zoro, can I get you something from the bar?

673. Um, red wine would be okay.

674. - You got it. - Okay.

675. Thank you.

676. Well.

677. How you doin'?

678. Okay. I'm very happy you're here.

679. You got a fantastic view over here.

680. You know, I only see this in comic books.

681. And now I'm standing here,

682. watching the whole world at my feet.

683. I feel like God almost.

684. I would love to make a painting of this.

685. Well, that's exciting.

686. - Are you serious about that? Yeah.

687. - Yeah. - Well if you are,

688. there's something I must show you.

689. Okay. - Something real special.

690. - Okay? - Okay.

691. Come with me.

692. Serious, Grandmaster Flash,

693. and... the Furious Five.

694. Mm. Interesting.

695. I want you to see

696. where the real versions are.

697. I wanted you to see these Lichtenstein.

698. Does it remind you of your work?

699. In a way. The way the lines, you know,

700. wave around.

701. Not exactly all my work.

702. Everybody's work

703. - on the subways. - Mm-hmm.

704. So, you really want to be an artist?

705. I am an artist.

706. Oh, I know you are.

707. That's why you're here.

708. Please sit down, I wanna talk to you.

709. Don't be frightened. It's okay.

710. Sit down. Please?

711. Please, get comfortable.

712. So, are you really serious about

713. commissioning me to do a painting for you?

714. Absolutely. I really like your work.

715. I think I will need, like, at least,

716. a hundred dollars in material.

717. Oh, that's no problem.

718. I'll give you two hundred.

719. No problem at all.

720. Let me do that.

721. Here we go.

722. Thank you very much.

723. My pleasure.

724. So...

725. How does it feel?

726. It feels great.

727. When do you think I can have it?

728. I can start on it as soon as possible.

729. Terrific.

730. Raymond, what you doin' here?

731. What is that?

732. It's a painting.

733. Yeah, on Crash's canvas, right.

734. I bet you'd be fooling around

735. with your friends a lot.

736. - What do you think is... - It's stupid,

737. - you know what I mean. - ... what I'd be doing with them?

738. Yeah.

739. - What the hell you care? - I've been quiet about it.

740. I've been extremely quiet about it.

741. All I've been wanting to do,

742. is show you, by this,

743. and all the other things I've been doing...

744. that I really wanna be a man, and I,

745. and I wanna continue being your man, you know.

746. I mean, what do you think I'm doing?

747. I mean, you know?

748. I wanna prove it.

749. - And how you gonna do that?

750. Oh, shit! Look at that.

751. Hey!

752. Oh, shit.

753. Fucking kids in the back of a car.

754. Did you see that?

755. Do you wanna go to the yards with me?

756. Are you crazy?

757. Just me and you. Late tonight.

758. Come on.

759. All right.

760. Yo, man. That kid, Vic, got stopped tonight, man.

761. I'm telling you, man.

762. You was rockin' it, man.

763. - Word. - You had the party jumpin'.

764. - You know it, man. - But they...

765. I knew they wasn't gonna give it to you, man.

766. - I known it. - A hundred dollars, man.

767. You can't trust Starski

768. and Phade, man, you should have known.

769. Yo, them kids there, on the block

770. givin' out flyers, man.

771. This gonna be serious. Busy Bee.

772. All the deft MCs, Double Trouble.

773. Yo, come on down,

774. don't fester up, you know what I'm sayin'?

775. In the Amphitheater, right?

776. Cold Crush, Fantastic Five's gonna be there.

777. Check it out, homeboy, you know what I'm sayin'.

778. Phade, man. I didn't think that brother was like that, man.

779. You know what I'm sayin'.

780. We had did things in the past, you know,

781. and he would, like, came through, man,

782. like a thoroughbred, but he like...

783. fronted on that money, man.

784. But like, we gonna crush him in the Amphitheater.

785. - You know it, you know it. - You know it, know it.

786. It ain't nothin' to it, but to do it.

787. You know it.

788. Oh, yeah!

789. Yo, Ray! What's up?

790. Hey! What's up, Phade?

791. How you doin' man?

792. - I'm comin' tonight, man. - Right.

793. I just came from out town, man.

794. I just gave out like 2,000 flyers, man.

795. - Wow! - Check it out, man.

796. This shit is high post, ain't it, man?

797. This is great, man!

798. It's gonna be deft!

799. All right. But tell me,

800. what is your idea for the mural? What do you wanna put on it?

801. Man, that takes a while, man.

802. It ain't like, you know, just doin' a regular,

803. old train or something, you know? I'm not positive.

804. This is the whole building now that I'm going to paint.

805. And it is something that I want to paint on,

806. that people are gonna be able to look at, in the back of it,

807. and see the whole thing come together

808. as one beautiful painting and whatnot.

809. All right, listen. I'm not worried about it.

810. I got faith in you.

811. Hey, man, I think Imma break up time, man.

812. You wanna, you should, like, come up there with me, man.

813. So we can get to promoting a little bit more,

814. you know what I'm sayin'.

815. Catch up with Busy Bee or somethin'.

816. Nah, I got a place to go, man.

817. I'm just gonna take a subway ride and whatnot.

818. And think about it, 'cause I can find my ideas

819. more clearer in there, you know?

820. It's gonna be high-powered. True that.

821. Imma be rockin' house, I'm gonna be there.

822. I know it's gonna be high-powered, Imma be there.

823. Busy Bee, you know what I'm sayin'.

824. Come on, give me a little soul clap.

825. Let's have a little fun, here we go.

826. Yeah, man. This party gonna be high-powered, tomorrow man.

827. Yo, I'm so happy to be here.

828. It's so beautiful out.

829. I'm gonna cream this, man. You watch.

830. - "Cream" it? - Believe it, yo.

831. I got my paint.

832. - Got me an outline. - You got, like, colors?

833. Yeah, hell yeah!

834. - What you brought? - What?

835. Now, well, that's just what I wanted to tell you about.

836. Where's your paint?

837. I can't...

838. I can't make it here tonight with y'all, I'm sorry.

839. I can't, I can't go to the yard with you.

840. What d'you mean you're not coming with me?

841. - What's wrong with you? - 'Cause I can't!

842. Can't you understand? Look, look.

843. I gotta do something very important—

844. Right. And being with me is not important.

845. - Right. I'm not saying that!

846. I just can't be here. This is not important.

847. You are important, but, this place is not important now.

848. Because something else is important.

849. And you're really gonna like it...

850. All right, then take me with you.

851. just give me time to show it to you,

852. when the time comes up.

853. I can't show it to you now.

854. - You know what I mean? - Well, what is it? Tell me.

855. I'll let you know when the time comes.

856. I just can't right now, because I haven't...

857. done it yet. Okay?

858. So, you should like, just go home and whatnot.

859. Good luck. Have a good time.

860. Do your thing by yourself. Later for you.

861. Hey, wait a minute. What are you...

862. - what are you getting into— - Nah, nah. Nah, it's cool.

863. Imma rock the line by myself. I'll...

864. - Imma take over, you watch. What you mean

865. you gotta rock the line? Why you gotta get like that for?

866. I don't need your ass. I can paint without you.

867. Okay, Rose. You wanna act like that?

868. I hope the cops come in and they bust the whole place.

869. You probably drop a dime and get my ass busted.

870. That's what you're gonna do.

871. You're the one that drops the dimes.

872. You and the Union.

873. - That's what you do, drop dimes. - All right, later for you, man.

874. And just put insides and whatnot.

875. - Destroy trains. - Ah, fuck this.

876. If I run into Union, I'm going over you.

877. Later for you, too.

878. Forty-seven times seven and I'm gonna put in those.

879. Have a good day

880. The official adventures of...

881. The Grand...

882. Master...

883. Flash!

884. Tell me, uh, how's it going?

885. How's what going?

886. You know, your painting.

887. How come you're not finishin' it?

888. What you doin' over here?

889. It's messed up.

890. - It doesn't look bad. You're crazy.

891. It looks bad.

892. Okay, then at least tell me what that thing is you just done.

893. I'm trying to paint this figure in the middle,

894. and it's, it's not even comin' out right.

895. I already got, like the hands, like on the side.

896. Like the hands of doom.

897. And they're like representing the city

898. and the environment around this artist.

899. Right? And what I'm tryin' to draw,

900. is the artist in the middle.

901. And he's like...

902. Like...

903. He's like painting, all by himself.

904. In his own world and whatnot.

905. He don't care about nobody around him.

906. And that's what the hands are, everybody around him.

907. Yeah, who is this character?

908. That's Zoro, right? That's you.

909. Who told... Forget...

910. Who gave you that idea?

911. Come on, man. I've been knowing.

912. I've been knowing for a long time that was you.

913. That's ridiculous.

914. You just didn't trust me. You didn't tell me

915. about them things, so Imma tell you now.

916. I'm also gonna tell you, I don't like your mural.

917. I don't like the idea.

918. Just get outta here. I don't care.

919. No harm, man. I'm just telling you the truth.

920. All right?

921. Zoro this, Zoro that. We don't wanna hear about it.

922. You're only worried about Zoro.

923. Concentrate on what the whole thing is about.

924. The jam, rappers are gonna be comin' down.

925. They're gonna be the stars of this thing, not you.

926. Damn, man.

927. Idiot. - That's an idea.

928. You know, that's a hell of an idea.

929. You did it!

930. That's beautiful.

931. What'd I say?

932. Fantastic Freaks, in the house! Comin' in!

933. Fantastic, romantic Freaks.

934. Grand Wizard, DJ Theodore.

935. The fantastic romantic, Kevie Kev.

936. Prince Whipper Whip, Dot-A-Rock.

937. MC Rubie Dee.

938. Oh, yeah!

940. at this time, they're getting ready to...

941. rock the show!

942. Okay, keep that noise! Keep that noise!

943. That's right, everybody say, "Ho!"

944. Ho!

945. Say, "Hey, hey!"

946. Hey, hey!

947. Let's go and say it with me. Come on!

948. Party people, I want everybody to do me a favor.

949. Throw both hands in the air like this.

950. Both hands in the air, like this.

951. Everybody, everybody. Now I want everybody

952. to look at their hands. Look at their hands, right?

953. And pretend your hand is that man

954. who killed all them little children in Atlanta.

955. And I want y'all to smack the hell out of it, like this.

956. Come on. Like this. Clap your hands. Come on, clap.

957. Clap your hands, come on, clap!

958. Clap your hands, come on, clap!

959. Clap your hands, come on, clap!

960. Yeah, keep clappin'. Keep clappin' your hands now.

961. Keep clappin' your hands.

962. Now I want everybody from Avenue D.

963. Do me a favor. Let me hear y'all say,

982. Yeah! - Say, yeah!

983. Yeah! - Say, hell yeah!

984. Hell yeah! - It's like that.

985. Okay, ladies and gentlemen,

986. we need a little crowd participation.

987. We like to thank you for comin' down

988. to the Lower East Side at the Ghetto.

989. Wild Style, bone-breaker.
