24. And that's just that mean old biddy, Mother Nature.

31. and the coolest technology in the entire world,

36. fry up an omelet Bin Laden and save us all.

41. Maybe he's a nine-foot-tall bionic Ninja with x-ray vision

43. All I know is that in the last six years,

44. there have been more acts of terrorism worldwide,

45. than in the 20 years leading up to it.

47. in more than 100 countries around the world.

210. is currently the number two of Al-Qaeda, and he's a Gemini.

213. odds are Osama won't be too far away.

258. could tell me why Osama's making so many friends here.

259. - In Egypt, people have no freedom.

260. And they try and prove to the government

261. that they have freedom, and they deserve freedom,

262. by committing these terrorist attacks.

263. - So did you vote in the last presidential election?

266. - It's not that. It's like, I don't believe in it.

267. Like, I know it's rigged.

268. I know that Hosni Mubarak would have won anyway.

269. They call this a democratic country, but it's not.

270. In Egypt, if a president wants to stay in power,

271. he'll stay in power.

272. - And Hosni Mubarak has been in power

273. for more than 26 years.

274. - The United States has got

275. a close and meaningful relationship with Egypt.

276. This relationship is a cornerstone

277. for our policy in the Middle East.

278. - A policy that includes giving Mubarak

279. a giant aid package,

280. while looking the other way as he uses riot police

281. and hired thugs

282. armed with sticks, knives, swords and Molotov cocktails

283. to keep the opposition from voting on election day.

284. You might say about Mubarak the same thing FDR

285. said about another dictator.

286. - He may be a son of a bitch, but he's our son of a bitch.

287. - See, we've had a policy of propping up dictators

288. for more than 50 years now.

289. Back when the Cold War started heating up,

290. we decided to do whatever it took

291. to stop communism from taking over the world.

292. The United States started mixing with a rougher crowd.

293. In 1953, the CIA helped the Shah of Iran overthrow

294. the Iranian government, to become their supreme ruler.

295. Sure, the Shah tortured or killed

296. anyone who publicly disagreed with him

297. and even went as far as shoving broken glass

298. up the nether regions of critics.

299. But he totally hated Communism.

300. Now, he was a son of a bitch, but he was our son of a bitch.

301. The Shah kept Iran in our corner until 1979,

302. when Ayatollah Khomeini's

303. Islamic revolution swept to power,

304. and held 52 Americans hostage for 15 months.

305. That's when we made friends with Saddam Hussein

306. over in Iraq.

307. Now, he was an SOB too, but for 10 years,

308. while he was fighting the Iranians, he was our SOB.

309. In fact, by the mid-'80s,

310. we had sons of bitches all the way from Latin America

311. to the Middle East, but, hey,

312. pimping freedom ain't easy.

313. We needed to keep our SOBs happy and on our side.

314. So we provided them with tanks, guns, planes and mo' money.

315. Today we give Egypt more than two billion dollars

316. a year in weapons and aid.

317. Sure, there's reports of torture,

318. murder and rampant political corruption,

319. but somewhere along the way we decided that,

320. in order to protect our own freedom,

321. it was all right to sacrifice the freedom of others.

322. Does lack of democracy and human rights

323. in countries like Egypt

324. encourage people to get involved

325. in extremist radical groups?

326. - Of course. There's no doubt about this.

327. It's only the one thing that I agree

328. with George W. Bush about.

329. That people join terrorist organizations

330. because there is no other way to be active.

331. The threat of terrorism created the climate

332. of fear that is being exploited

333. by the Mubarak regime and by George Bush.

334. We're going through a very difficult time now.

335. I mean, we have terrorists on one side,

336. and opportunistic, exploitative regimes on the other side.

337. The U.S. can no longer claim the moral ground.

338. People have learned to expect a lot less

339. from the U.S. than they used to.

340. - America's filled with millions of good people

341. who want people to live peacefully,

342. who people to co-exist together, just like me.

343. - Have a smell.

344. - Being in the States, all we get on the news

345. are the crazy nuts that like to scream, "Death to you!"

346. And so you're like, "Oh, man.

348. But we've been in Egypt for a week now,

349. talking to people, who are real people,

350. just like you and me.

353. everybody said, "This government's corrupt

354. and it's backed by the U.S."

355. It's hard for me to see how damaged

356. the image of the country

357. that I love and care about has become.

397. between extreme factions in a population,

426. Two of the US's closest allies, Spain and England,

427. were both attacked by homegrown Al-Qaeda cells.

428. Now, even Muslim countries

429. are finding they are in Al-Qaeda's crosshairs,

430. often becoming the victims of terrorism

431. and feeling the influence of Osama bin Laden firsthand.

432. Where is Osama bin Laden?

433. - Bin Laden? - Bin Laden.

452. They all grew up on the exact same street

453. in the desperately poor ghetto of Sidi Moumen.

454. I met journalist Aboubakr Jamai,

455. to find out what'd drive young men

456. to cause such destruction.

457. - I think it's a mix of ingredients.

458. And, depending on the situation, one of the ingredients

459. is more important than the others.

460. And, these ingredients, I think in the case of Morocco,

461. the socio-economic ingredient is the most important one.

462. I think it's not a coincidence that all

463. of the guys who blew themselves up

464. in the 16th of May, 2003, came from this shantytown.

465. They were either unemployed or had menial jobs.

466. And they were completely outcast in their own society.

467. - What do you think is the solution?

468. - The problem in Morocco, with the people here,

469. is that we fail to give them

470. an economic voice and a political voice.

471. To me, that's the solution.

472. You need to give opportunity, economically speaking,

473. because extremism nourishes itself from darkness.

474. - That evening I was invited to dinner

475. with Ahmed and his family,

476. in the same 200 square-foot house he grew up in.

477. Ahmed doesn't want his children to fall prey

478. to the same types of people the bombers did.

479. But with a poor education system and so little money,

480. he fears they could be easily exploited.

505. for the creation of Al-Qaeda

506. and attacks against the West is the existence of Israel,

507. America's support of her

508. and the treatment of the Palestinian people.

509. If Osama cares about the Palestinians so much,

510. I wanted to see if the feeling was mutual.

513. How do you feel about Al-Qaeda

514. causing all these acts of terrorism around the world

515. in the name of the Palestinian people?

547. But the biggest thing, this whole thing is about this.

548. All of this is about land.

549. Scattered throughout the hills of the Palestinian West Bank,

550. are Israeli settlements,

551. built to expand the Jewish presence in the region.

552. How does it feel, being overlooked by settlements?

553. - Tears and blood

554. were shed today as Israel began the forced evacuation

555. of Jewish settlers from their homes.

556. - Not only are settlements a constant

557. cause of violence between settlers and Palestinians,

558. but they are also a contentious issue

559. within Israeli politics,

560. with one side seeing the settlements

561. as just another obstacle in achieving peace,

562. while the other sees it as a divine right.

563. - We Jews are the rightful owner of this land.

564. - Mm-hm.

565. - It's a land that was promised to them

566. by the Almighty,

567. who kept his promise and brought us back.

568. After we realized there's going to be a struggle

569. about every centimeter of the land,

570. we realized we have to settle on the outposts

571. to enlarge the area.

572. This outpost, for instance, it's-

573. - So is that legal to do that?

574. It's illegal in the moment,

575. as it is in the process of being legalized.

576. - What is your thoughts on the Palestinian conflict?

577. - You know, when we were kids,

578. there was this game where you play music

579. and there's a circle of chairs.

580. - Yeah, Musical Chairs. - Musical Chairs.

581. This is a bit like a musical chair tragedy.

582. Somebody is left without a chair.

583. But everybody needs to sit somewhere.

584. - Should Israelis move out of settlements?

585. - I think Israel will eventually

586. have to let go of the territories.

587. I think we are not holding the territories,

588. the territories are holding us.

589. The tragedy of this place is that everybody knows

590. exactly what would be the solution in the end,

591. what would be the end of the story.

592. Two countries that are connected, but separated.

593. And this is the way it's going to end.

594. Every person in his right mind

595. knows this is the way it's going to end.

596. The one thing we don't know is how many people

597. are going to die,

598. and how much time is going to pass.

599. But the end is very clear for everybody.

600. - Yeah. - That's tragic.

601. - Are there politicians

602. who are working towards a solution?

603. - Yes, there are politicians who are working for peace.

604. The problem is,

605. if you have three buses exploding in Tel Aviv,

606. it will stop.

607. And we can progress the peace process once again,

608. and then if a settler in the, I don't know,

609. in the territories will kill somebody, it will stop again.

610. And so, we're being held hostage by the extremists

611. from both sides.

612. - So this is basically Israel, and that's the Gaza Strip.

613. And,

614. it's pretty, it's pretty scary.

615. It is really scary.

616. Imagine that rolling up over your hill,

617. coming at your house.

618. I mean, imagine living like this.

619. Imagine this is how you live every single day.

620. Oh, shit.

621. - A Qassam rocket fell next to a

622. daycare center in Sderot this morning.

623. No one was wounded in the attack,

624. but the Hamas chief warned the rocket attacks

625. on Israel will continue.

626. - So this classroom was blown up about eight

627. and a half hours ago.

628. Luckily, there were no kids in it.

629. Rocket came from the Gaza Strip.

630. If there had been kids in here, half of them would be dead.

631. You see this and get a sense of just how wrong things are.

632. I can't imagine raising my kid up in a place like this.

633. I couldn't imagine living in a place where my kid

634. went to school,

635. and this is something that can happen every day.

790. netting more than 170 Al-Qaeda suspects,

791. and more than five million dollars,

792. Saudi intelligence officials say they thwarted plans

793. to fly aircraft into oil facilities,

794. attack security installations,

795. kill senior officials and send money to Al-Qaeda in Iraq.

796. But the raids reveal a far more worrying trend

797. for the Saudis.

798. The war in Iraq is spilling over into Saudi Arabia.

989. was the last place that he was seen.

990. So we're heading out to Tora Bora.

991. They say, "No, no, it's not dangerous at all,"

992. yet there's 21 guys here with guns

993. taking us to Tora Bora.

995. You're not gonna need to worry about it at all."
