1. That's fine. Thank you.Copy !req
2. - May I come in, please?Copy !req
3. - Thank you.
- You're welcome.Copy !req
4. May I help you, sir?Copy !req
5. - May I have change for 10?
- Yes. How would you like it?Copy !req
6. Ten singles will be fine.Copy !req
7. - Bye-bye.
- Bye now.Copy !req
8. Coffee.Copy !req
9. I can get your pieces
by tomorrow night.Copy !req
10. I can get you probably six pieces.Copy !req
11. I got more now,
but I promised some of this lot.Copy !req
12. I don't know as I like that -Copy !req
13. buying from the same lot
as somebody else.Copy !req
14. - Makes me nervous.
- Yeah, well, I understand.Copy !req
15. You don't understand like I understand.
I got certain responsibilities.Copy !req
16. Look. I told you I understand.Copy !req
17. - Did you get my name or didn't you?
- I got your name.Copy !req
18. - Well, all right.
- All right nothin'.Copy !req
19. I wished I had a nickel
for every name I got that was all right.Copy !req
20. Look at that.
You know what that is?Copy !req
21. Your hand.Copy !req
22. I hope you look closer at those guns
than you did at that hand.Copy !req
23. - Look at your own goddamn hand.
- Yeah?Copy !req
24. - Count your fuckin' knuckles.
- All of 'em?Copy !req
25. Count as many as you want.
As many as you got, I got four more.Copy !req
26. You know how I got those?Copy !req
27. I bought some stuff from a man.
I knew his name.Copy !req
28. The stuff was traced.Copy !req
29. The guy I bought it for -
he's at MCI Walpole for 15 to 25. Still in there.Copy !req
30. But he had some friends.
I got an extra set of knuckles.Copy !req
31. They put your hand in a drawer...Copy !req
32. then somebody kicks the drawer shut.Copy !req
33. Hurt like a bastard.Copy !req
34. Jesus.Copy !req
35. What makes it hurt worse,
what makes it hurt more...Copy !req
36. is knowing what's gonna
happen to you, you know?Copy !req
37. There you are.
They just come up to you and say, "Look.Copy !req
38. "You made somebody mad.
You made a big mistake...Copy !req
39. "and now there's somebody
doing time for it.Copy !req
40. "There's nothing personal in it,
you understand, but it just has to be done.Copy !req
41. Now get your hand out there."Copy !req
42. You think about not doing it, you know.Copy !req
43. When I was a kid in Sunday school,
this nun -Copy !req
44. she used to say, "Stick your hand out."Copy !req
45. I stick my hand out - Whap! She'd knock me
across the knuckles with a steel-edge ruler.Copy !req
46. So one day I says,
when she told me, "Stick your hand out"...Copy !req
47. I says, "No." She whapped me right across
the face with the ruler. Same thing.Copy !req
48. They put your hand in a drawer.
Somebody kicks the drawer shut.Copy !req
49. Ever hear bones breaking? Just like a man
snapping a shingle. Hurts like a bastard.Copy !req
50. I don't know who you been selling to...Copy !req
51. but The Man tells me you got guns
to sell, I need guns.Copy !req
52. Oh, look. You can't trace these guns.
I guarantee that.Copy !req
53. You better, or neither one of us
will be able to shake hands.Copy !req
54. Look. These guns are okay.Copy !req
55. They're new.Copy !req
56. Test firing's all they've had.
Brand-fuckin'-new.Copy !req
57. Air weight, shrouded hammers,
floating firing pins.Copy !req
58. I can get you four inches and two inches.
Just tell me what you want.Copy !req
59. - How much?
- Eighty.Copy !req
60. Eighty? You ever sell guns before?Copy !req
61. Look. I'm talking about 30 guns here.Copy !req
62. What do you want, a discount?Copy !req
63. I could sell 30 pieces tomorrow
without even seeing you.Copy !req
64. I can't get my hands on 'em fast enough.Copy !req
65. I'll bet if I was to go down the shrine there
and go to confession...Copy !req
66. I'd get three Hail Marys, and then
the priest would ask me confidentially...Copy !req
67. if I can get him something Iight
to carry underneath his coat.Copy !req
68. People are desperate for guns.
I had a guy ask me seriously the other day...Copy !req
69. - could I get him a few machine guns.
- What color was he?Copy !req
70. He was a nice guy.Copy !req
71. I never been able to understand
a man who wanted to use a machine gun.Copy !req
72. You get hooked with it, it's life.Copy !req
73. Your best all-around item
is the four-inch Smith.Copy !req
74. You can Iift it,
she goes where you point it.Copy !req
75. - I'll go 50.
- Oh, bullshit.Copy !req
76. Look. I'm talking about
30 pieces. $1,500.Copy !req
77. Split the difference. Eighteen.Copy !req
78. I have to see the stuff.Copy !req
79. Sure. Okay.Copy !req
80. Lines up the point.Copy !req
81. Seen the Scal Iately?Copy !req
82. Yeah, I see him. I don't see him.Copy !req
83. Coyle's been Iooking for him.Copy !req
84. Oh, yeah?Copy !req
85. - Say where he's at?
- At home.Copy !req
86. Collins almost breaks it up against the -Copy !req
87. - Kicks off to - [ Continues, Indistinct ]Copy !req
88. Three, eight, four -Copy !req
89. Hello, Eddie?
Yeah, it's me, Artie.Copy !req
90. Look, I gotta talk to ya.
Could I meet ya?Copy !req
91. Listen.Copy !req
92. You wanna see this through, right?Copy !req
93. I'll be here at Dillon's.Copy !req
94. Okay.Copy !req
95. It's a good thing you told me
you got a new car.Copy !req
96. I wouldn't have figured you for this.
What happened to the 396?Copy !req
97. Bills were eating me up.Copy !req
98. It went like a bird
with a flame up its ass though.Copy !req
99. I can't swing it anymore. I'm gonna have to
get married and settle down.Copy !req
100. - I mean, I just can't swing it anymore.
- Come on. You do okay off of me.Copy !req
101. Shit. What'd I get off you
in the last six months?Copy !req
102. 3,700? That went easy.Copy !req
103. I can't hack around anymore, man.Copy !req
104. I mean, if I don't stop this, I'm gonna be
Iooking at the outside from the inside.Copy !req
105. How about you?
You still riding?Copy !req
106. Nah. That was before I heard
about making money.Copy !req
107. Okay. Come on.
You got the stuff?Copy !req
108. Yeah.Copy !req
109. Mostly four inches though.Copy !req
110. - 480, right?
- How come "right"?Copy !req
111. Four inches?Copy !req
112. Six months ago you'd moan
if I bring you anything but two inches.Copy !req
113. I got a better class of trade now.Copy !req
114. What, are you hooked in
with the Mafia or something?Copy !req
115. I'll tell you the truth -
I don't know.Copy !req
116. There's this heavyset guy, you know.Copy !req
117. Looks like a mick.Copy !req
118. Says he'll take anything I can deliver.Copy !req
119. I never seen such demand
for guns before.Copy !req
120. Four inches, six inches, uh, Mags...Copy !req
121. uh,41s,45s,44s.Copy !req
122. You name it.Copy !req
123. He just keeps bringing me the bread.
It's okay with me.Copy !req
124. You do all right off me.Copy !req
125. Come on. I give you 20 apiece for iron.
that costs you nothing.Copy !req
126. You do all right.Copy !req
127. You do better.Copy !req
128. Don't hassle me, man.Copy !req
129. Look. I know what you're dumping
the money on. I know, all right.Copy !req
130. But as long as you can function,
that's okay with me.Copy !req
131. But you get my ass in the gears, man,
and I'm gonna turn the flame up under yours.Copy !req
132. - Come on. I'll see you next week, all right?Copy !req
133. You're not Iooking too good.Copy !req
134. I'm Iooking at three to five, it seems like.Copy !req
135. What about the appeal?Copy !req
136. Lost the appeal.
Lost the motion for reconsideration.Copy !req
137. Gotta surrender up there
for execution of sentence in a week or two.Copy !req
138. Shit.Copy !req
139. The old Iady's gotta go on welfare.Copy !req
140. How would you like that? Your wife and kids
have to go on welfare, like niggers.Copy !req
141. Dillon, you gotta do something for me.Copy !req
142. - I do what I can.
- I stood up.Copy !req
143. You're a stand-up guy.Copy !req
144. Christ, I wish I never did that job for ya.Copy !req
145. I wish it never happened.
But that don't help.Copy !req
146. It Iooked like a pipe.
You know that. You told me yourself.Copy !req
147. You told me you needed dough.
You got the money up front.Copy !req
148. Yeah.Copy !req
149. The whole town's buttoned up
on this, uh, grand jury anyway.Copy !req
150. I never seen things so quiet.Copy !req
151. There's nothing much going on.Copy !req
152. You guys must have
taken up circle jerks or somethin'.Copy !req
153. They ought to run one of these
grand juries every three weeks or so.Copy !req
154. It sure puts you guys in the closet.Copy !req
155. - Fuck you.Copy !req
156. By the end of the week,
Artie Van's gonna be...Copy !req
157. selling papers
or shining shoes or somethin'.Copy !req
158. - He oughta get unemployment.
- Cut it out.Copy !req
159. All right.
That was a cheap shot. I apologize.Copy !req
160. - But there isn't anything going on.Copy !req
161. There's something goin' on.Copy !req
162. A bunch of the boys getting together,
watch dirty movies?Copy !req
163. Hmm.Copy !req
164. To tell you the truth -Copy !req
165. I don't know what it is.Copy !req
166. People are trying to sort of avoid me.Copy !req
167. You know?Copy !req
168. Guys telephoning
for guys that aren't there.Copy !req
169. Here's 20.Copy !req
170. Who's calling up?Copy !req
171. Remember Eddie Fingers?Copy !req
172. Fella that got his hand busted up.Copy !req
173. - Who's he Iooking for?
- Jimmy Scalise. Do you know him?Copy !req
174. Last time I heard he was in FIorida,
getting some sun.Copy !req
175. - Does he find him?
- I don't know.Copy !req
176. - I'm just a messenger boy.
- They give you numbers.Copy !req
177. Telephone numbers.Copy !req
178. I'm a Iaw-abiding citizen.
I got a Iiquor Iicense.Copy !req
179. Ah, you work for a guy
that's got a Iiquor Iicense. Ever see him?Copy !req
180. You're a convicted felon.Copy !req
181. Like I say, I work for a guy
got a Iiquor Iicense. I forget sometimes.Copy !req
182. - Want to forget this?
- I'd just as soon.Copy !req
183. You ought to get yourself a car.Copy !req
184. I don't drive.Copy !req
185. If I could afford a car,
I wouldn't be taking 20 a week from you.Copy !req
186. Have a nice day.Copy !req
187. Mr. Partridge.Copy !req
188. We are going to your bank.
You and I and my friend.Copy !req
189. My other friend will stay here
with your wife and children...Copy !req
190. to make sure nothing happens to them.Copy !req
191. Nothing will happen to them,
and nothing will happen to you...Copy !req
192. if you do what I tell you.Copy !req
193. If you don't,
at least one of them will be shot.Copy !req
194. Understand?Copy !req
195. I understand.Copy !req
196. Here's your coat.Copy !req
197. We leave by the back door.Copy !req
198. Everything will be all right.Copy !req
199. - Don't be afraid.
- Okay.Copy !req
200. Now, you do what
your mommy tells you.Copy !req
201. It'll be all right.Copy !req
202. They don't want to hurt us.Copy !req
203. - All they want is the money.
- He's right.Copy !req
204. We don't get any kicks
from hurting people.Copy !req
205. Nobody does anything silly...Copy !req
206. nobody gets hurt.Copy !req
207. Give him your car keys.Copy !req
208. Let's go to the bank, Mr. Partridge.Copy !req
209. You sleep late, Mr. Partridge.Copy !req
210. I'm sorry to have inconvenienced you.Copy !req
211. You're probably a brave man.
Don't try to prove it.Copy !req
212. We don't plan to hurt you
or anyone else...Copy !req
213. unless you make us,
or somebody fucks up.Copy !req
214. Now, sit down on the floor of the car.Copy !req
215. Go.Copy !req
216. I'm going to take off your blindfold,
Mr. Partridge...Copy !req
217. and then you get sitting up.Copy !req
218. Mr. Partridge...Copy !req
219. do you see the man
in that phone booth?Copy !req
220. Yes.Copy !req
221. When he gives me the signal, I'll know he's
made contact with our friend at your home.Copy !req
222. You will then walk to
the front door of your bank...Copy !req
223. ring the bell in the usual way...Copy !req
224. go into the bank
and tell your people what's going on.Copy !req
225. Then you will open
the back door and let us in.Copy !req
226. If that door is not open in exactly
one minute after you've entered the bank...Copy !req
227. you know what will happen
to your family...Copy !req
228. and we will leave immediately
in a car you've never seen.Copy !req
229. - Do you understand?
- Yes, I understand.Copy !req
230. Okay. Go ahead.Copy !req
231. - Back up so we can see the door.Copy !req
232. Stay right where you are.
Don't press no buttons.Copy !req
233. Calm down. Keep quiet.
No one will get hurt.Copy !req
234. Hey. Open the door.Copy !req
235. Come on. Come on.Copy !req
236. Tell 'em to sit down on the floor
in front of the desk.Copy !req
237. Please sit down on the floor.Copy !req
238. Tell 'em the rest.Copy !req
239. When the time Iock on the vault opens...Copy !req
240. these men will take
what they came for.Copy !req
241. I will leave with them.
We will return to my house.Copy !req
242. Keep on.Copy !req
243. There is another man
at my house with my family.Copy !req
244. They will pick him up and leave.Copy !req
245. This man has told me
no one will be hurt ifno one interferes.Copy !req
246. I have to believe him.
So, everyone, please cooperate...Copy !req
247. and don't set off any alarms.Copy !req
248. What time does it open?Copy !req
249. 8:48.Copy !req
250. When the fuck does it open?Copy !req
251. - That's it.
- Open it.Copy !req
252. When you get it open,
move towards the desk there...Copy !req
253. so I can watch you and the rest
of them at the same time.Copy !req
254. You and I are going to go out and get in
a car and go. Tell them what to do.Copy !req
255. When these men leave...Copy !req
256. get up and take your usual places.Copy !req
257. Open the doors. Draw the curtains.Copy !req
258. Start to do business.
You've got to give these men at least an hour.Copy !req
259. For God sakes, give them the time.Copy !req
260. Okay. Let's go.Copy !req
261. Put your hands on the seat
and get yourself sitting up.Copy !req
262. Come on.Copy !req
263. I'm going to point you,
and you'll start walking.Copy !req
264. You'll hear me get back in the car.
You just keep walkin'.Copy !req
265. 'Cause I've got the windows down
and the guns on you.Copy !req
266. Count to 100 very slowly.
That's when you'll be safe.Copy !req
267. Start walkin', Mr. Partridge.Copy !req
268. - Bye, Dad.
- Bye-bye.Copy !req
269. - Bye.
- Bye-bye.Copy !req
270. You say anything
to those kids this mornin'?Copy !req
271. About what?Copy !req
272. About that trouble up there.Copy !req
273. Not at all. Why would I?Copy !req
274. Why?Copy !req
275. Well, I thought they acted
kind of funny toward me this mornin'.Copy !req
276. Oh. It's your imagination.Copy !req
277. - What do you want for breakfast?
- Nothin'.Copy !req
278. I gotta go somewhere today,
see a fella.Copy !req
279. Goddamn Iawyer of mine.Copy !req
280. That harpy's got oatmeal for brains.Copy !req
281. If I had time, I'd get somebody
to draw up some papers for me.Copy !req
282. You know. Incompetence of counsel.Copy !req
283. Wouldn't let me take the stand.Copy !req
284. I know a fella who can do that,
but he's in the bucket.Copy !req
285. My mother said she'd move in
and take care of the kids, while I work.Copy !req
286. Work?Copy !req
287. What are you talking about, work?Copy !req
288. You don't want us
to go on welfare, do you?Copy !req
289. Hey, look. Sheila, look. It's gonna be
all right up there in New Hampshire.Copy !req
290. The fella I'm seeing today -
he told me he could square it for me.Copy !req
291. Then we'll get the hell out of here, okay?Copy !req
292. I'm not complaining.Copy !req
293. Eddie.Copy !req
294. Eddie!Copy !req
295. It's morning!Copy !req
296. That's a nice machine you got there.Copy !req
297. - Anybody I know?
- I don't think so.Copy !req
298. Fella out in the western part of the state
was using it to transport moon.Copy !req
299. The poor bastard. Paid cash for it,
got hooked on his first trip.Copy !req
300. Well, they get away with it sometimes.Copy !req
301. - I didn't know that was in your line.
- It isn't.Copy !req
302. But, you know, you hear different things.Copy !req
303. - People get careless.
- I know.Copy !req
304. Like last week I heard you were
coming up for sentencing in New Hampshire.Copy !req
305. I thought you might
like to go up there with me for the weekend.Copy !req
306. You're, uh, still interested
in machine guns, I suppose.Copy !req
307. Oh, yes, indeed.Copy !req
308. I've always had a strong interest
in a machine gun or two.Copy !req
309. That's what I said.Copy !req
310. I said old Foley's reliable.
Never forgets his old friends.Copy !req
311. Just what old friends, for example?Copy !req
312. Well, I was thinking, for example, that, uh,
U.S. Attorney up in New Hampshire there.Copy !req
313. You thought I might enjoy
a chance to talk to him?Copy !req
314. Well, I figure it's worth tryin'.Copy !req
315. Well, it's a long way to go.Copy !req
316. Still, if I had a strong reason.Copy !req
317. Well, I got three kids and a wife at home there.Copy !req
318. I just can't do any more time.Copy !req
319. You know, the kids are growing up. They go
to school, all the other kids Iaugh at 'em.Copy !req
320. Well, hell, I'm almost 51 years old.Copy !req
321. That's your strong reason.
I need one for me.Copy !req
322. What are they holding over you?
About five years?Copy !req
323. My Iawyer figures about two.Copy !req
324. Oh, you'd do well to get out with two.Copy !req
325. You had about 200 cases
of Canadian CIub on that truck...Copy !req
326. the way I remember it,
and none of it belonged to you.Copy !req
327. I keep telling you it was a mistake.Copy !req
328. Well, you made that mistake before.Copy !req
329. Look. There I am, minding my own business,
getting along the best I could.Copy !req
330. A man calls me up, knows I'm out of work,
asked me if I'd drive a truck for him.Copy !req
331. I didn't know that man from Burlington
from Adam.Copy !req
332. Yeah, I can see how that would happen.Copy !req
333. A man like you, Iives in Quincy, Mass...Copy !req
334. must get a lot of calls to drive a semi
from Burlington to Portland.Copy !req
335. I'm surprised the jury didn't believe you.Copy !req
336. Ah, that dopey Iawyer of mine
wouldn't let me take the stand.Copy !req
337. Anyway, I was wondering if maybe
there wasn't some way we could handle it.Copy !req
338. Like me saying hello to somebody?Copy !req
339. Well, I was thinking a Iittle stronger than that.
I was thinking in terms of, uh...Copy !req
340. maybe you talking to the prosecutor up there
and having them drop a word to the judge...Copy !req
341. how I been helping my uncle
like a bastard.Copy !req
342. Well, I would,
but then again, you haven't been.Copy !req
343. What? I gave you a couple of calls.Copy !req
344. Yeah. You give me some real stuff too.Copy !req
345. You tell me about a guy that's gonna get hit.
Fifteen minutes Iater, he gets hit.Copy !req
346. You tell me about some guys and a job...Copy !req
347. but you don't tell me till they're
coming out the door with the money.Copy !req
348. That's not helping Uncle, Eddie.Copy !req
349. You gotta put your whole soul into it.Copy !req
350. Hell, the way I hear it, you're maybe mixed up
in something that's going on.Copy !req
351. - Like what?
- Oh, well.Copy !req
352. I wouldn't want to confront a man
with something I heard.Copy !req
353. You know me better than that.Copy !req
354. Well, uh...Copy !req
355. suppose we was
to talk about machine guns?Copy !req
356. Just to change the subject?Copy !req
357. Well, suppose someone should put you onto
somebody who was selling machine guns.Copy !req
358. You wouldn't want him
to go to jail, would ya?Copy !req
359. Somebody who was helping you
like that, you wouldn't want him...Copy !req
360. to go to jail and embarrass
his kids and all, would ya?Copy !req
361. When's it supposed to come off?Copy !req
362. How much you interested?Copy !req
363. Let me put it this way.Copy !req
364. If I was to get my hands on some machine
guns and the fella that was selling 'em...Copy !req
365. and whoever's buying 'em...Copy !req
366. I wouldn't mind saying to someone else
that somebody was helping Uncle.Copy !req
367. Now, you need anything else?Copy !req
368. I need a good Ieavin' alone.
That's what I need.Copy !req
369. I don't want nobody following me around.Copy !req
370. Okay. We'll do it your way.Copy !req
371. You call me when you get something,
if you do.Copy !req
372. And if I get somethin',
I'll put it in front of the U.S. Attorney.Copy !req
373. If I don't, all bets are off.Copy !req
374. Understood?Copy !req
375. Have a nice day.Copy !req
376. - You remember Eddie Fingers? Eddie Coyle?Copy !req
377. - The bank robber. The one from Natick.Copy !req
378. Nah, that's his sidekick, Artie Van.
Eddie doesn't rob banks.Copy !req
379. They branch out.
What about him?Copy !req
380. I got this call from Coyle,
so I went out to see him.Copy !req
381. What'd he want?Copy !req
382. He's coming up for sentencing
in New Hampshire.Copy !req
383. Wants some references.
What's he got to trade?Copy !req
384. He was offering to peddle me
this guy with machine guns.Copy !req
385. That bastard.
He's about this high in the bunch...Copy !req
386. but he gets around
more than any man I've ever seen.Copy !req
387. One day he's here, the next day he's there.
You'd think he was some fuckin' stray dog.Copy !req
388. I just wish I had a line on half
of what he was doin'.Copy !req
389. Does he work anywhere?Copy !req
390. Ah. He's a night expediter
over at Arliss Trucking.Copy !req
391. But you just try to find him there.
He works about as much as Santa Claus.Copy !req
392. My friend says Coyle's been
trying to look for, uh, Scalise.Copy !req
393. My friend runs a saloon.Copy !req
394. And I know he's got an undisclosed interest.Copy !req
395. And he knows I know.Copy !req
396. - A strange guy.Copy !req
397. What do you hear about, uh,
Artie Van and Scalise?Copy !req
398. Nothing together, no.Copy !req
399. I wonder. Uh, you don't suppose
that Artie and, uh, Scalise...Copy !req
400. made that withdrawal
from the bank, do you?Copy !req
401. It's a thought.
I wonder where Eddie fits in.Copy !req
402. Well, he's arming some wiseguys.
He's done it before.Copy !req
403. That friend of yours
that runs the saloon -Copy !req
404. is that the same saloon we talked about
putting a wire in a few weeks back?Copy !req
405. - That's the one.
- Okay. You write it up...Copy !req
406. and I'll present it to the attorney.Copy !req
407. Maybe we ought to
talk about it some more.Copy !req
408. It's not gonna do you
any good in your head.Copy !req
409. - You wanted a wiretap.
- By the time I get it written up, it'll all be over with.Copy !req
410. Well, that's what you get
when you get to be an expert, kid.Copy !req
411. Or, uh, maybe you'd rather
go back to the pussy posse?Copy !req
412. Hey! You, man!Copy !req
413. Are you selling somethin'?Copy !req
414. - That depends.
- Wait a minute.Copy !req
415. Are you the guy?Copy !req
416. No, I'm a narc.Copy !req
417. Don't - Don't hassle me, man.
Are you the guy we're Iooking for?Copy !req
418. It depends.Copy !req
419. Depends upon what you're Iooking to do.Copy !req
420. Wait a minute.Copy !req
421. I don't know what he is.
He might be a narc. I don't know what he is.Copy !req
422. - Ask him to come to the back door.
- Sure, I'll ask him.Copy !req
423. Hey, uh, come to the back door.Copy !req
424. - Is he comin'?
- No, he ain't doin' nothin'.Copy !req
425. - Who the fuck are you?
- Cool it, man. This is Andrea.Copy !req
426. I don't give a shit who she is.Copy !req
427. Look. I understood there was
gonna be somebody here...Copy !req
428. that wanted to do some business.Copy !req
429. - How do we know who you are?
- You don't.Copy !req
430. - Yeah, you could be a cop.
- I could be J. Edgar Hoover.
Now, what the hell do you want?Copy !req
431. We understood you could get us
some machine guns.Copy !req
432. Hey, look. You - You want to burn
your fuckin' bra, all right...Copy !req
433. but what you gonna do
with a machine gun?Copy !req
434. We're gonna rob a fuckin' bank.Copy !req
435. I can get you five
machine guns by Friday.Copy !req
436. M16s. $350 apiece.
You want ammo, it's extra.Copy !req
437. How much extra?
$250 for 500 rounds.Copy !req
438. That's $2,000.Copy !req
439. I make that.Copy !req
440. Be here Friday night with the stuff.Copy !req
441. Half now. A grand in advance.
Machine guns are a hot item.Copy !req
442. I don't like that.Copy !req
443. I don't give a good damn
what you like.Copy !req
444. Look, I got two problems
selling machine guns to people like you.Copy !req
445. The first is selling machine guns.
That's life in this state.Copy !req
446. The second is selling to people like you.
You're not honest.Copy !req
447. You know where I'm gonna be and what
time, I'm Iiable to lose my machine guns.Copy !req
448. Give him a thousand dollars, Pete.Copy !req
449. You show up with no money...Copy !req
450. no guns.Copy !req
451. And keep this in mind:Copy !req
452. I got more than five machine guns...Copy !req
453. and the rest are gonna be
pointed at you.Copy !req
454. Bastard. Fucking bastard.Copy !req
455. Life's hard, Iover.
Life's very hard.Copy !req
456. Why the hell didn't you wake me up?Copy !req
457. Yesterday I got you up, and you
gave me hell for not letting you sleep.Copy !req
458. Today I let you sleep, and now you're
giving me hell for not getting you up.Copy !req
459. Well, I gotta make some calls.Copy !req
460. I know. I know.Copy !req
461. "Go upstairs.
I have to make some calls."Copy !req
462. You know, sometimes I think I'm married
to the president or something.Copy !req
463. It won't take long.
I just gotta do this.Copy !req
464. Call the president.
Call the pope.Copy !req
465. Barry, check aisle seven.Copy !req
466. Hey.Copy !req
467. You owe me 10 more guns.
I need 'em fast. When do I get 'em?Copy !req
468. I don't know.Copy !req
469. Look. I got you the first batch when I said,
and I was ahead on the dozen.Copy !req
470. - You know, these things take time.
- Time is what I haven't got.Copy !req
471. I'm getting pressure. I gotta see The Man
tomorrow night. I need those guns.Copy !req
472. I can't get 'em for you by tomorrow night.Copy !req
473. Son of a bitch.
I gotta have that stuff fast.Copy !req
474. I got a long ride to make tomorrow night.
Maybe you can stop with me when I make it.Copy !req
475. No way.
No way, no day, no can do.Copy !req
476. Look. I told you. I get quality.
These things take time.Copy !req
477. Tomorrow night.Copy !req
478. You aren't buyin' a Ioaf of bread,
you know.Copy !req
479. I got a thing set up that works pretty good.Copy !req
480. Dependable stuff that's not
gonna get anybody in trouble.Copy !req
481. I'm not gonna screw it up just because
your people got hot drawers.Copy !req
482. - You'll have to tell 'em that.
- You tell 'em.Copy !req
483. Look. The stuff'II come.
What's the big emergency?Copy !req
484. Look. One of the first things I learned
is never to ask a man why he's in a hurry.Copy !req
485. All you got to know is I told a man
that he could depend on me...Copy !req
486. because you told me
I could depend on you.Copy !req
487. Now, one of us is gonna have
a big, fat problem.Copy !req
488. Another thing I learned.Copy !req
489. If anybody's gonna have a problem,
you're gonna be the one.Copy !req
490. - You finished?
- No, I am not finished.Copy !req
491. Look, I'm gettin' old. You hear?Copy !req
492. I spend most of my life
hanging around crummy joints...Copy !req
493. with a bunch of punks, drinking their beer,
eating the hash and the hot dogs...Copy !req
494. and watching the other people
go off to FIorida...Copy !req
495. while I'm sweatin' out
how I'm gonna pay the plumber.Copy !req
496. I done time when I stood up,
but I can't take no more chances.Copy !req
497. Next time, it's gonna be me
going to FIorida.Copy !req
498. Now you listen.
You're still a kid.Copy !req
499. Then you come out, and you go around
and say, "Look, I'm a man.Copy !req
500. "You can take what I say,
and it happens.Copy !req
501. I go through."Copy !req
502. Well, you're Iearning
something too, my friend...Copy !req
503. and I advise you to Iearn it right now.Copy !req
504. When you say that,
when you get me out there all by myself...Copy !req
505. on what you say,
you better be right there in back of me...Copy !req
506. because when you say it happens,
it's gonna fuckin' happen.Copy !req
507. - If it don't, you got your thing caught in the zipper.
- Now, just -Copy !req
508. Now, I don't want any talk from you
and any shit from you.Copy !req
509. I want 10 guns.
I want 'em tomorrow night.Copy !req
510. I'll be right there with the money.
Same place where we were before.Copy !req
511. I'll be there with the money.
You be there with those goddamn guns...Copy !req
512. because if you ain't...Copy !req
513. I'll be Iookin' for ya,
and I'll find ya too.Copy !req
514. Because I ain't the only one
that's gonna be Iookin' for ya...Copy !req
515. and we know how to find people.Copy !req
516. All right. Uh -Copy !req
517. Look. I have to go to Rhode Island
tonight, and I'm gonna be back late.Copy !req
518. Then I gotta see some people
late tomorrow afternoon.Copy !req
519. C-Can I meet you someplace early where
I can get free by, let's say, uh, uh, 3:00?Copy !req
520. 'Cause listen, man. You're coming up
faster than we said, you know...Copy !req
521. and - and I got other people to see too.Copy !req
522. Tomorrow afternoon's okay?Copy !req
523. Yeah.Copy !req
524. Look. Have the money, huh?
Uh...Copy !req
525. if I work this fast,
I'm gonna need the money fast.Copy !req
526. No sweat. I'll have the money.
No sweat.Copy !req
527. You better kick it along, huh?Copy !req
528. Listen. I've been on the road
all fuckin' day, one thing or another...Copy !req
529. and by the time I get home tonight,
it's gonna be morning.Copy !req
530. So just stay off of my ass, huh?Copy !req
531. I always wanted to see how much
one of these things could do.Copy !req
532. You get the Magnum mill?Copy !req
533. No, I got the Hemi.
383 Hemi.Copy !req
534. You can have one too, you know.Copy !req
535. Just get me, say, another, uh,
25, 30 of those M16s.Copy !req
536. Where the fuck you taking me?Copy !req
537. Take a left. You go a hundred yards
or so, there's a clearing.Copy !req
538. They're all there.Copy !req
539. You gotta go up the hill.Copy !req
540. Get out.Copy !req
541. No. Go up the hill.Copy !req
542. I said get out.Copy !req
543. Now you go up there,
and you get your friends and the rifles...Copy !req
544. and you come back down here
and we'll do business.Copy !req
545. - Here. Not there.
- Why?Copy !req
546. Because I think you need the exercise.Copy !req
547. 'Cause I like the moonlight.Copy !req
548. And 'cause I'm not so fuckin' stupid
as to drive this car into the woods...Copy !req
549. to find two other guys with machine guns
who know I got money.Copy !req
550. This life's hard, man,
but it's harder if you're stupid.Copy !req
551. Now go up there, and I'll stay down here,
and I'm gonna be watchin'.Copy !req
552. When you get down here,
I'll tell you what to do next. Now move.Copy !req
553. I don't know. I can't see.Copy !req
554. Hmm.Copy !req
555. PIenty cold out here.
Been waiting a long time.Copy !req
556. Shh.Copy !req
557. That's it! Far enough!Copy !req
558. You two there hand the rifles
to the kid that was with me.Copy !req
559. Then stand still.Copy !req
560. Now get your ass down here.Copy !req
561. Put the rifles in the trunk
and shut it.Copy !req
562. Shut the goddamn trunk.
Hold it!Copy !req
563. I got a.45 on ya.Copy !req
564. Now, where's the ammo?Copy !req
565. Uh, yeah, we couldn't get no ammo.Copy !req
566. You can steal the goddamn guns
out of the stores...Copy !req
567. but you can't get any bullets?Copy !req
568. Look, we'll get it for you.
Honest.Copy !req
569. The kid who was supposed to get it got sick.
He wasn't on duty when it came up.Copy !req
570. We're not gonna trust
just anybody, you know.Copy !req
571. All right.Copy !req
572. I'm gonna be nice to ya.Copy !req
573. I really oughta
keep some of this back...Copy !req
574. for you putting me in the ditch
with the ammo, but -Copy !req
575. Fuck it.
My problem is, I'm a nice guy.Copy !req
576. When you get that stuff, you call me.
You hear?Copy !req
577. Yeah, okay, Thanks, huh?Copy !req
578. Thanks a lot.Copy !req
579. - Come on. Let's go.Copy !req
580. - Come in, Nancy.
- Vern.Copy !req
581. - Stay cool. We're being robbed.
- You're kidding me.Copy !req
582. - No.
- They're really here?Copy !req
583. - Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
- Get to work, sweetie.Copy !req
584. You too, Iover.Copy !req
585. Nice piece of ass.
You ripping off some of that?Copy !req
586. Oh, just get the hell over there.
I don't care what the hell you're doing.Copy !req
587. May I have your attention?Copy !req
588. I want to remind you not to attempt
anything courageous or foolish.Copy !req
589. It would come to the same thing.Copy !req
590. I want you to remember that these men
have someone at my house...Copy !req
591. and they say he'll kill my wife
ifanything goes wrong.Copy !req
592. I believe them.Copy !req
593. It's not at all unusual.Copy !req
594. I've been held up four times
in 36 years...Copy !req
595. and I can tell you
the important thing is not to panic...Copy !req
596. and not to try to resist.Copy !req
597. That's right. No one will get hurt.Copy !req
598. Keep the shades drawn until 9:15.Copy !req
599. Then let the people in.Copy !req
600. Tell 'em the rest, quick.Copy !req
601. lfanyone wants a large amount ofcurrency...Copy !req
602. tell them the time Iock is stuck...Copy !req
603. and I've gone to get assistance.Copy !req
604. - Is that clear?
- Okay, let's go.Copy !req
605. What did you do?
I said, what did you do?Copy !req
606. - Nothing. Honest, I -
- You hit the alarm! I told you not to, and you did it!Copy !req
607. The rest of you, get in the vault!Copy !req
608. Get in the goddamn vault!Copy !req
609. Get in the fuckin' vault!Copy !req
610. Jesus! For Christ's sake, bingo!Copy !req
611. Christ, Artie, what happened?Copy !req
612. Ah, somebody got stupid,
and somebody got nervous and shot him.Copy !req
613. - Jesus.
- Ah, that's the way it goes.Copy !req
614. They'll have everybody there -
the F.B.I., everybody.Copy !req
615. Not on that bank. No federal insurance.
S.P. only. We're okay.Copy !req
616. I don't know.
Geez, I don't know.Copy !req
617. - When do you have to see The Man?
- In a while.Copy !req
618. Okay.Copy !req
619. Make sure it's right.Copy !req
620. You guys gonna go again?Copy !req
621. Well, we talked about it.
We can make one more move.Copy !req
622. Oh, geez, I don't know about that.Copy !req
623. You just get the guns.Copy !req
624. Next week, I'm goin' south.Copy !req
625. Get some caramel candy.Copy !req
626. Fuck you.
You know where I'm goin'.Copy !req
627. Hey, I tried to tell you,
but you didn't listen.Copy !req
628. - Looked like a pipe, Artie.
- You didn't listen.Copy !req
629. You wanna set up a hit,
then Dillon's your man.Copy !req
630. But he was eight minutes behind
in that truck.Copy !req
631. Ah, it's too late now.Copy !req
632. Yeah, it looks like it.Copy !req
633. Hey, you just get the guns to Scal.Copy !req
634. Yeah.Copy !req
635. There's this truck.
It bothers me.Copy !req
636. I know it sounds funny because I suppose
you would think that what would be worrying me...Copy !req
637. would be the guys in the truck...Copy !req
638. or maybe some guy I don't even know
watching me pretty close in the bar or something.Copy !req
639. But I have seen the truck.Copy !req
640. Put two guys in that truck,
they could get the pope.Copy !req
641. The only time I see an engine like that
is in a Cadillac.Copy !req
642. So you know you aren't gonna run away
'cause that thing's gonna run right away with ya.Copy !req
643. In the windshield they got
a crack on the passenger side.Copy !req
644. You open it right up,
you stick a deer rifle out there.Copy !req
645. Now you're on the Mystic Bridge,
that thing wheels up behind ya...Copy !req
646. the windshield's opening up and I ask ya,
what are you gonna do now?Copy !req
647. You're gonna make a good Act of Contrition
is what you're gonna do.Copy !req
648. I mean, sure, I don't drive.Copy !req
649. The only time I'm on that bridge
is coming home from the track on the bus.Copy !req
650. Do you see what I'm gettin' at?Copy !req
651. I know these guys.Copy !req
652. They're serious.
I know them very well.Copy !req
653. They got a truck
for guys that drive cars...Copy !req
654. and they got something else
for guys that walk, like me.Copy !req
655. Okay, okay. Did I ever tell you
we could keep this neat and clean?Copy !req
656. - I ever give you that line of horseshit?
- Nah, nah, nah, nah.Copy !req
657. You been on the Ievel, I give you that.Copy !req
658. Uncle will appreciate
what you've given me.Copy !req
659. Okay.
You see what I mean?Copy !req
660. You see the position I'm in?Copy !req
661. Have a nice day.Copy !req
662. - Where are they?
- In the trunk.Copy !req
663. Put the guns in the bag.
Put the bags in the cart.Copy !req
664. - Where's the money?
- Right here. You wanna count it?Copy !req
665. No time. I gotta be at the Sharon
railroad station at 3:30. Let's get going.Copy !req
666. Fine with me.Copy !req
667. - What's in the bags?
- Three of 'em are filled with bread.Copy !req
668. The others have got, uh, meat, potatoes,
beer, vegetables, shit like that.Copy !req
669. - What are you giving me?
- The bread.Copy !req
670. A man can always use a Iittle bread
to feed the goddamn pigeons.Copy !req
671. Go find yourself some squirrels.
Squirrels love the bread.Copy !req
672. You wife make you do the shopping too?Copy !req
673. You haven't got too much time,
and I'm in kind of a hurry myself.Copy !req
674. I don't have the time
to explain married life to you...Copy !req
675. and besides,
if I did, you wouldn't believe me anyway.Copy !req
676. So let's just get down to business, huh?Copy !req
677. Jesus Christ!Copy !req
678. Don't get your bowels in an uproar.
They're for somebody else.Copy !req
679. Hurry up. Those look like
fuckin' army guns to me.Copy !req
680. Do you wanna see one?Copy !req
681. Huh? No way. Just fill up the bags
and put a couple of Ioaves on top.Copy !req
682. Okay, you got nine.38s here
and one.357. Good stuff.Copy !req
683. Hope you appreciate what I did for ya.Copy !req
684. My friend, your name is
in that great golden book in the sky.Copy !req
685. I'll be in touch.Copy !req
686. Hello. Foley there?Copy !req
687. Dave Foley.Copy !req
688. No, I don't care to give my name.
Stop fartin' around and get me Foley.Copy !req
689. We could take him now.Copy !req
690. We could.Copy !req
691. We could also do what we're supposed
to do, which is wait and see who comes
to pick up the stuff.Copy !req
692. Let's go.
Give me that paper.Copy !req
693. This is Sauter.
I'm in position.Copy !req
694. I can't see Foley from here.Copy !req
695. I can.Copy !req
696. - Recognize 'em?
- Nah, they look harmless to me.Copy !req
697. They're after machine guns, remember?Copy !req
698. - Yeah?
- I hate to bother you, man...Copy !req
699. but don't we have some kind
of an agreement and all?Copy !req
700. Yeah.Copy !req
701. Well?Copy !req
702. Well what?Copy !req
703. Well, Christ,
are we gonna do somethin'?Copy !req
704. Sure.Copy !req
705. Quit playing games.
What the hell's going on here?Copy !req
706. - This some kind ofjoke?
- No, ma'am.Copy !req
707. I plan on sitting here
for about two hours...Copy !req
708. and in the meantime if every car that I saw
when I came in here doesn't leave, then I'll know it.Copy !req
709. - Around 5:30 I'll know if you're trying to tip me in.
- Oh, look, man!Copy !req
710. Hey, if you're all right,
we'll go where I tell ya...Copy !req
711. I'll give you some machine guns,
you give me some money, and that'll be that.Copy !req
712. This is a trick.Copy !req
713. You think so?Copy !req
714. The money, man.
Give us back the money.Copy !req
715. Fuck you.Copy !req
716. Hey, you made a deal, man.
You wanna back out, back out.Copy !req
717. But, uh, no refunds.Copy !req
718. Leave it, Pete.Copy !req
719. Let's get something to eat.Copy !req
720. Damn.Copy !req
721. Maybe they'll come down
back of his car.Copy !req
722. - Think quick.
ls there anything we can bust 'em under?
- No, not a goddamn thing.Copy !req
723. So we got two possibilities.Copy !req
724. He's still here.
We can wait and bust him if he tries to leave.Copy !req
725. Or we can wait and maybe
bust 'em all if they come back.Copy !req
726. Or they come back and go
someplace else and we lose 'em in the traffic.Copy !req
727. - What do we do?
- Let me think.Copy !req
728. It's your party.Copy !req
729. We take him.Copy !req
730. United States Treasury.
Move, and you're a fuckin' dead man.Copy !req
731. Get out of the car,
and keep your hands in plain sight.Copy !req
732. Get out!Copy !req
733. - Put your hands on top of the car.Copy !req
734. You're under arrest
for violation of federal Iaw.Copy !req
735. Tell him we got the man
where he was supposed to be...Copy !req
736. and we need a warrant
to search the car.Copy !req
737. You don't have to answer any questions.Copy !req
738. If you answer any questions, your answers
may be used against you in a court of Iaw.Copy !req
739. - Do you understand what I have read to you?
- You knew it. You knew it!Copy !req
740. Sure.Copy !req
741. Oh, that fuckin' bastard.Copy !req
742. That fuckin' bastard!Copy !req
743. What fuckin' bastard? Huh?Copy !req
744. Oh, no.Copy !req
745. I'll take care of that myself.Copy !req
746. Well?
How'd it come out?Copy !req
747. It went fine. Just fine.
He had five M16s, just like you said.Copy !req
748. Now, that does it, huh?Copy !req
749. - Does what?
- You know.Copy !req
750. You said you wanted a reason.Copy !req
751. That thing we talked about.
That thing up in New Hampshire there.Copy !req
752. You said you needed a reason.Copy !req
753. Oh, that.Copy !req
754. Well, you gonna go up there with me
and tell 'em what a nice guy I am?Copy !req
755. That truck thing - the booze.Copy !req
756. Hey, Dave, come on.
Don't jerk my chain, okay?Copy !req
757. - Here, sir.
- You know what I'm talking about.Copy !req
758. How far you gonna go for me?Copy !req
759. I already made the call.Copy !req
760. I called the U.S. Attorney up there...Copy !req
761. and told him you were instrumental
in bringing about a major arrest.Copy !req
762. That's right. That's it.Copy !req
763. And he said -Copy !req
764. He's pretty mean,
that guy up there.Copy !req
765. He said, "well, that's a start anyway."Copy !req
766. What does that mean?Copy !req
767. Well, he asked, "Is he working on
anything else for you?Copy !req
768. I'd like it better," he said, "if he was working
on something else for you."Copy !req
769. - Something else?
- You know how it is, Eddie.Copy !req
770. I mean, it's one thing to just go
and trade one guy for another one...Copy !req
771. but when you got a guy that's joined up
that's gonna keep on sending you more stuff -Copy !req
772. - That's shit.
- Look at it his way.Copy !req
773. - The man's from a different district.
- Shit. Shit.Copy !req
774. His guys grabbed you fair and square...Copy !req
775. and you wouldn't plead out on 'em.Copy !req
776. You made 'em go through a trial.Copy !req
777. You wouldn't play ball.Copy !req
778. He wanted me to cop out
on the guys that stole the stuff.Copy !req
779. Well, you can't blame him for that,
now, can you?Copy !req
780. And you wouldn't tell him. So he convicted you,
and now he's got you in the box.Copy !req
781. And somebody from a different district
calls up and says...Copy !req
782. "Hey, Coyle did me a favor.
Leave him go."Copy !req
783. It's only natural a man's gonna ask,
"well, what did he do for me?"Copy !req
784. Look, I can't give him that man
he wants up in New Hampshire.Copy !req
785. If I did, I'm dead. That's all there is to it.Copy !req
786. He can't ask me to walk out
and commit suicide for him.Copy !req
787. He's not asking you for anything.Copy !req
788. - I gave you the guns.
- It was your idea.Copy !req
789. Oh, no. You said it first.Copy !req
790. You said you wanted a reason.
I gave you a reason.Copy !req
791. And I went through - I made the call.
You just don't like what the call got you.Copy !req
792. I can't help that, Eddie.Copy !req
793. So, what do you want, goddamn it?Copy !req
794. The man up there, he said he'd like it better
if he could go in to the judge and tell him...Copy !req
795. that you'd made one good case for Uncle
and you were working on some others.Copy !req
796. It'd show you'd rehabilitated yourself.Copy !req
797. You're telling me
to turn permanent fink.Copy !req
798. Permanent goddamn fink.Copy !req
799. You don't have to do
anything you don't want to...Copy !req
800. except be in federal district court
in New Hampshire...Copy !req
801. for disposition
on a charge of stolen goods.Copy !req
802. Whatever else you do
is because you want to.Copy !req
803. That ain't right, Dave.
That ain't right. You set me up.Copy !req
804. Look, Eddie...Copy !req
805. go someplace
and have yourself a glass of beer...Copy !req
806. and have a long talk with yourself.Copy !req
807. The only one fuckin' Eddie Coyle
is Eddie Coyle.Copy !req
808. You wanted a call.
I made the call.Copy !req
809. You gave me a grab to make the call.Copy !req
810. You want something else,
you gotta start thinking about how to get that.Copy !req
811. I can certainly understand a man
that don't wanna rat on his friends...Copy !req
812. but you gotta understand
the position I'm in.Copy !req
813. All I can give ya is what I tell ya
I can give ya, and I gave you that.Copy !req
814. What you do next is entirely up to you.Copy !req
815. I should have known better
than to trust a cop.Copy !req
816. My own goddamn mother
could have told me that.Copy !req
817. Everybody ought to listen to his mother.Copy !req
818. Yes?Copy !req
819. I, uh, brought some groceries
for Scalise.Copy !req
820. - Is he expecting you?
- Well, he asked me to come up here and all.Copy !req
821. I just drove about two hours.
I hope so.Copy !req
822. Just a minute.Copy !req
823. - Who is it?
- It's me. Coyle.Copy !req
824. I brought the groceries.Copy !req
825. Hey, Eddie.
Okay, bring it in.Copy !req
826. I'd help you,
but I'd freeze my ass off.Copy !req
827. That's okay.Copy !req
828. - Johnny! Hey, Johnny!Copy !req
829. - Come on in, Eddie.Copy !req
830. This is Wanda.
Wanda, meet Eddie.Copy !req
831. - Hi, Eddie.
- Hi.Copy !req
832. Tell him what you do, honey.Copy !req
833. You tell him.Copy !req
834. She's a stewardess.Copy !req
835. - No kidding.Copy !req
836. Get the man a beer.
Come on.Copy !req
837. - They look pretty good.
- Ought to.Copy !req
838. Had to go 80 apiece for 'em.Copy !req
839. I got five Smiths, two Lugers...Copy !req
840. a.357 Mag.Copy !req
841. You can hold up a bank with that thing
all by yourself.Copy !req
842. Hey, this is okay.Copy !req
843. I been on ice a couple of times myself,
you know, but, uh, never this nice.Copy !req
844. I'm not on ice.Copy !req
845. I rent this place from a bulldozer driver.
You know, seasonal work.Copy !req
846. The owner understands.
Thinks I'm the greatest thing since sliced bread.Copy !req
847. Hey, uh, that's pretty nice in there too.Copy !req
848. - Oh, her?
- Yeah.Copy !req
849. It's very warm down here.
She don't wear no pants.Copy !req
850. Every now and then I just reach down here,
she comes off like she's on electricity.Copy !req
851. - Oh, Jesus.
- It's a great life if you don't weaken.Copy !req
852. A great life.
Come on in.Copy !req
853. That's pretty nice meat you brought.Copy !req
854. Hey, thanks.
What do I owe ya?Copy !req
855. All told it comes to, uh...Copy !req
856. $4,500.Copy !req
857. - Sit down.
- My God. That's a lot ofmoney for some meat.Copy !req
858. - The money - What'd you say it was?
- 4,500.Copy !req
859. Hey, uh, Jimmy,
you gonna need any more guns?Copy !req
860. I could use anything you can get.Copy !req
861. We're gonna need at least five Monday,
maybe more to do the job right.Copy !req
862. I like to have a couple extras in the car...Copy !req
863. so if I gotta use one on the job
I can wipe it off and heave it down the river.Copy !req
864. Everything goes right, we'll probably
be dumping the whole eight Monday night.Copy !req
865. You know when you're gonna need 'em?Copy !req
866. I'll give you a call. You can come and meet me.Copy !req
867. When I call you
I'll tell you where I'm gonna be.Copy !req
868. You gonna be around?Copy !req
869. I got that thing coming up
in New Hampshire, you know.Copy !req
870. I hope you're all right.Copy !req
871. Me too, Scal.Copy !req
872. Me too.Copy !req
873. Okay?Copy !req
874. - No tails or anything?
- We were alone all the way from Fall River.Copy !req
875. if they're watching us,
they're doing it from an airplane.Copy !req
876. - What was it with Dillon?
- He's worried about Coyle.Copy !req
877. He thinks maybe Coyle is swapping us
for that thing he's got going in New Hampshire.Copy !req
878. - You think so?
- No way. All he knew was we wanted guns.Copy !req
879. What could he tell 'em? He don't know
where we've been till we've been there.Copy !req
880. - There's no way Coyle could set us up.
- From what I know, Coyle's a stand-up guy.Copy !req
881. - You're sure no one tailed you?
- No one.Copy !req
882. - This Waylon got any kids?
- Grown up and moved away.Copy !req
883. Just him and his wife.
Nice Iady.Copy !req
884. She'll probably fix you breakfast
while you're waiting for us.Copy !req
885. Martha, are you coming?Copy !req
886. I'm coming, I'm coming.Copy !req
887. Hurry, because I'll be late.Copy !req
888. - Two of 'em.
- Big meeting today.Copy !req
889. Beautiful.
Mom and Dad coming down together.Copy !req
890. - April fool, motherfuckers.
- [ Thumping, Clattering ]Copy !req
891. Drop it.Copy !req
892. Let me have another beer.Copy !req
893. Uh, straight bourbon.Copy !req
894. I, uh - I thought about it,
what we were saying...Copy !req
895. and, uh, I'm ready to deal with ya.Copy !req
896. It's your decision, Eddie.Copy !req
897. It's my decision,
but I don't want no surprises.Copy !req
898. I gotta know just how far
you'll go for me.Copy !req
899. That depends on how far you go for me.
You know that.Copy !req
900. Okay.Copy !req
901. Well, if I give you this,
I can't do no time.Copy !req
902. These guys have got friends, you know,
and I wouldn't Iive to get out.Copy !req
903. Well, we can take care of you.Copy !req
904. Okay.Copy !req
905. Now, uh, suppose I was to go out west -
Arizona, for instance.Copy !req
906. You'd have to fix me up
with a new identity and all that.Copy !req
907. You know what I mean.
You do it all the time.Copy !req
908. It's been done,
but I can't guarantee it.Copy !req
909. All I can promise, in all honesty...Copy !req
910. is to carry the ball for you
as best I can...Copy !req
911. but you've gotta make it good.Copy !req
912. You don't make it
much of a proposition.Copy !req
913. It's your proposition, Eddie.Copy !req
914. I'm just here to listen.Copy !req
915. And so far you haven't told me anything.Copy !req
916. Suppose I was to give you those guys
been knockin' off the banks.Copy !req
917. - Eddie -
- How far would you go for that?Copy !req
918. Last night I would've gone
the distance, Eddie, but that was last night.Copy !req
919. I guess you haven't seen the paper.Copy !req
920. You're too late, Eddie.
It all happened without you.Copy !req
921. I was wondering if you could
handle something for us.Copy !req
922. More than Iikely.
Depends, I suppose, but more than Iikely.Copy !req
923. This is pretty important.
That's why we got in touch with you.Copy !req
924. Somebody have a problem?Copy !req
925. Jimmy Scal, Artie Valentropo,
Fritzie Webber and Phil Kenney.Copy !req
926. They got bagged in a house
up in Milton there.Copy !req
927. - Murder one. Hearing this afternoon.
- I warned 'em.Copy !req
928. - Who? Warned who?
- Jimmy Scal.Copy !req
929. Picked up on something the other day.
This guy, uh - guy we know, me and Scal.Copy !req
930. He's up for sentencing.
It's almost a mandatory, you know.Copy !req
931. Name of Coyle, isn't it?Copy !req
932. I had him driving a truck for me
and a fellow up there in New Hampshire...Copy !req
933. and he got hooked,
which is why he's coming up.Copy !req
934. I was figurin'
he was thinkin' about dumpin' me.Copy !req
935. He wouldn't do that
unless he took out a will.Copy !req
936. So he dumped on Jimmy and Artie,
the bastard.Copy !req
937. Scal gave his Iawyer that name Coyle
to give to The Man.Copy !req
938. Coyle.
Eddie Fingers, right?Copy !req
939. Do you want him hit?Copy !req
940. The Man wants him hit.Copy !req
941. Tonight.Copy !req
942. I, uh -Copy !req
943. I can't do it tonight.Copy !req
944. You see, for Christ's sake,
this takes a Iittle while, you know.Copy !req
945. I mean, I gotta line things up -
a car and a place and a driver.Copy !req
946. The Man says tonight.Copy !req
947. When I hit somebody I do it right...Copy !req
948. not like some goddamn kid
found his girl fuckin' somebody else.Copy !req
949. - But he says tonight.
- He says, he says!Copy !req
950. - Five grand in front.
- You'll get it when you do the job.Copy !req
951. Want me to make a hit on the cuff?Copy !req
952. Look, that's not the way it happens.Copy !req
953. The Man knows that,
and I'm beginning to wonder if he sent you.Copy !req
954. - Now, look -
- "Now, look" nothing.Copy !req
955. I treat a man with respect,
I expect to be treated with a Iittle respect.Copy !req
956. The Man knows how I work, what I do.
That's why he wants me.Copy !req
957. I done the Polack and Jimmy the Whale.
So he knows what I do.Copy !req
958. So he knows with me
it's strictly cash in advance.Copy !req
959. No money, no hit.Copy !req
960. - No credit cards whatsoever.
- The Man isn't gonna like that.Copy !req
961. Look, he came Iooking for me.Copy !req
962. Now, I had some hard things
The Man asked me to do, and I did them.Copy !req
963. Nobody got hurt but the guy
that was supposed to get hurt...Copy !req
964. and nobody on anything I ever did
ended up on death row...Copy !req
965. which is more than I can say
for some I know.Copy !req
966. He knows you're good.Copy !req
967. Okay. I'll be at my place.Copy !req
968. We do this thing, we do it the right way.
All right?Copy !req
969. I'll tell him how you feel.Copy !req
970. - Thanks, Dillon.
- See ya.Copy !req
971. You makin' any money?Copy !req
972. Not exactly.Copy !req
973. If you were to ask me, I'd have to tell you
I'm not having a very good day.Copy !req
974. Why is that?Copy !req
975. You heard about what happened
over in Randolph there?Copy !req
976. Aw, that was a rough thing.Copy !req
977. Yeah, but this is the end of Artie Van,
and Jimmy too, for that matter.Copy !req
978. I look at it philosophically.Copy !req
979. You win some, you lose some.
Right?Copy !req
980. They made, what?
A quarter of a mil in a month?Copy !req
981. You're gonna get the fuzz mad.
And they killed those two guys, right?Copy !req
982. Somebody set them up.Copy !req
983. The cops were waitin' for 'em
right there in the house.Copy !req
984. Somebody set them up.
I'd like to know who that was.Copy !req
985. Yeah, I imagine they would too.Copy !req
986. I know Jimmy Scal good.
Oh, hell, you know that.Copy !req
987. Hate to see Jimmy take this one.
He's in forever.Copy !req
988. Look, I still say
they knew what they were getting into.Copy !req
989. Did anybody feel sorry for you?Copy !req
990. No. You got a lot of fuckin' nerve
asking me that.Copy !req
991. You went through, didn't ya? You didn't
throw somebody else in. You were a big boy.Copy !req
992. You gotta have respect for them.
They're big boys too.Copy !req
993. - Yeah.Copy !req
994. Well, I'm all wrapped up now.Copy !req
995. Well, you get probably two years...Copy !req
996. and you do eight months.Copy !req
997. That's a third.Copy !req
998. That's no sweat.Copy !req
999. It's for you, Dillon.Copy !req
1000. Don't take it so goddamn serious.Copy !req
1001. Yeah?Copy !req
1002. Yeah, I know who this is.Copy !req
1003. It's a funny thing.
He's in here right now.Copy !req
1004. Put on a big performance how sorry he is,
how pissed off he is they got set up.Copy !req
1005. It's almost enough to make me mad.Copy !req
1006. Enough of that.Copy !req
1007. You get somebody up here this afternoon
with an envelope.Copy !req
1008. Or maybe tonight.Copy !req
1009. You get the envelope here,
I'll see what I can do.Copy !req
1010. That was a friend of mine. Calls to tell me
he can't go to the Bruins tonight.Copy !req
1011. So, uh, why don't you forget your troubles
and come to the game with me, huh?Copy !req
1012. We'll have a Iittle dinner.
I'll take the night off, we'll see a good game.Copy !req
1013. BIackhawks.
What do you say?Copy !req
1014. Sounds good.Copy !req
1015. So, uh, come back around 6:00 or so.Copy !req
1016. I'd say stay, but, uh,
the way you're going...Copy !req
1017. you might not be able to see the game
or anything, you stay.Copy !req
1018. We'll have a Iittle wine, good steak.
Then we go to the game.Copy !req
1019. Right. You're right.Copy !req
1020. Look, I got a few things to do.
I'll catch you back here about 6:00. Okay?Copy !req
1021. Okay.Copy !req
1022. - [ Cheering, Shouting ]Copy !req
1023. Get that son of a bitch!Copy !req
1024. Hey!Copy !req
1025. Can't understand where that kid is.Copy !req
1026. That friend I was telling you about,
he gave me both his tickets.Copy !req
1027. So I invited my wife's nephew.Copy !req
1028. I can't understand where he is.
He loves hockey, that kid.Copy !req
1029. - Great game.
- Great game.Copy !req
1030. - You want some more?
- I'll get it.Copy !req
1031. Excuse me.Copy !req
1032. Pardon me.Copy !req
1033. Get him!Copy !req
1034. - That's his.
- Where is he?Copy !req
1035. He's gone for beers.Copy !req
1036. Jesus Christ, man.
What'd you bring him here for?Copy !req
1037. Because he's too smart to come out
for any other kind of party.Copy !req
1038. Because there's 15,000 people here Iooking
at the Bruins and they don't give a fuck about us.Copy !req
1039. Now get the fuck out of his seat.Copy !req
1040. - When you piss, you piss.
- That's beer, goddamn it.Copy !req
1041. It's hard to carry beer in a crowd like this.
Did you ever try it?Copy !req
1042. Imagine being a kid like that.Copy !req
1043. What is he, 24 or somethin'?Copy !req
1044. Greatest hockey player in the world.Copy !req
1045. Number four! Bobby Orr!Copy !req
1046. Jesus, what a future he's got, huh?Copy !req
1047. - That's right! Get 'im!Copy !req
1048. - SIam 'im!
- Come on!Copy !req
1049. - Knock 'im out!
- Yeah!Copy !req
1050. Penalty for high sticking.Copy !req
1051. Number 11, two minutes,
for high sticking.Copy !req
1052. Hey, I forgot to tell you,
I got some girls.Copy !req
1053. Oh, I don't know, man.
It's pretty late.Copy !req
1054. Come on!
Let's make a night of it.Copy !req
1055. Hey, I can't, man. I gotta go home.
I gotta get the car back.Copy !req
1056. Well, where's your car?Copy !req
1057. South - South End. I, uh -Copy !req
1058. I was there, and I took
a trolley over to your place.Copy !req
1059. I ne -
Just never got back for it.Copy !req
1060. Shit. And, you know, there's, uh,
these girls. They're absolutely all right.Copy !req
1061. But there's no way.
I mean, they're in Brookline.Copy !req
1062. Hey, look, I could drive you there in the car
and then go home.Copy !req
1063. But I can't hang around much,
'cause I got a test tomorrow.Copy !req
1064. Whatever's fair, you know.Copy !req
1065. - Hey, Eddie.
- Hmm?Copy !req
1066. - Eddie.
- Yeah?Copy !req
1067. - You all right?
- Beautiful.Copy !req
1068. Beautiful.Copy !req
1069. - You gonna be able to drive?
- Oh, yeah.Copy !req
1070. No sweat.Copy !req
1071. Hey, great game, huh?Copy !req
1072. Where do you want me to go?Copy !req
1073. Hey, Eddie, you tell him.Copy !req
1074. Where's your car?Copy !req
1075. - He's out.
- Go around the Garden.Copy !req
1076. Head for the expressway going south
in case he wakes up.Copy !req
1077. I know what's going on.Copy !req
1078. Good. I'm glad to hear that.Copy !req
1079. You just drive.
If I was you, I'd drive to Quincy...Copy !req
1080. pick roads where I could go pretty fast
without making anyone look suspicious...Copy !req
1081. and come out on Morrissey Boulevard.Copy !req
1082. I'd look for a blue Galaxy in the parking lot
of the Chalet Swiss bowling alleys.Copy !req
1083. Somebody said something
about some money.Copy !req
1084. If I was you,
I'd look hard for that Galaxy.Copy !req
1085. Drive that Galaxy back to Boston,
you let me off.Copy !req
1086. If I was you, I'd look in
the glove compartment of that car...Copy !req
1087. before dropping it off
in the nigger district.Copy !req
1088. Jesus!Copy !req
1089. Jesus Christ. Hey, slow down, you stupid shit.
You wanna get arrested or somethin'?Copy !req
1090. I got nervous.
Jesus Christ, that was loud.Copy !req
1091. - That's why I used a.22.
- Yeah? That was loud enough.Copy !req
1092. I ever let off a.38 two-incher in here,
you'd go right off the road.Copy !req
1093. - Is he dead?
- If he's not now, he's never gonna be.Copy !req
1094. Now slow down and get off this road.Copy !req
1095. This car looks a lot
like the other one in this Iight.Copy !req
1096. That's the idea. Now you're Iearnin'.Copy !req
1097. The cops have been Iooking at that car all night.
Now they see one looks just like it.Copy !req
1098. Help me stuff him down.Copy !req
1099. Yeah, they won't search that
for a couple hours.Copy !req
1100. Hey, Iock it.
Keeps the volunteers out.Copy !req
1101. Not a bad car.Copy !req
1102. Take the Memorial Drive
to the Mass Avenue Bridge.Copy !req
1103. I gotta get rid of this gun.Copy !req
1104. I heard a guy on television the other night,
he was talking about pigeons.Copy !req
1105. He called them flying rats.Copy !req
1106. I thought that was pretty good.Copy !req
1107. What he had in mind, he was gonna give 'em
the flu or something to make them extinct.Copy !req
1108. Now, uh, there was a guy that got shit on,
probably got shit on again.Copy !req
1109. Then he got mad.
They ruined his suit or somethin'.Copy !req
1110. So he's gonna spend the rest of his life getting even
with pigeons 'cause they ruined a $400 suit.Copy !req
1111. Now, uh, there's no percentage in that...Copy !req
1112. because there are probably
10 million pigeons in Boston alone...Copy !req
1113. all of them Iaying eggs every day...Copy !req
1114. which generally produce more pigeons...Copy !req
1115. all, uh, dropping tons and tons of shit
every day, rain or shine.Copy !req
1116. And this guy in New York,
he's gonna, well -Copy !req
1117. There just aren't gonna be
any more of them in this world.Copy !req
1118. Yeah, a man gets desperate.Copy !req
1119. He does a few things,
he knows it won't work.Copy !req
1120. Pretty soon he quits, packs it all in,
goes away someplace.Copy !req
1121. It's the only way there is.Copy !req
1122. Okay, you gave us Scalise,
and we're grateful.Copy !req
1123. You can't talk about Coyle,
you can't talk about Coyle. It's all right.Copy !req
1124. - Thanks.
- Screw.Copy !req
1125. We've been friends a long time now.Copy !req
1126. I never asked a friend yet to do somethin'
he really couldn't do, I knew he couldn't do it.Copy !req
1127. Have a nice day.Copy !req
