3. It was once known as the resort and entertainment capital of the universe.

4. Over the years the appeal of Mars has worn thin.

5. The ideas that its entertainment industries were once based on

6. are no longer valued among smart, young couples

7. looking for a good time.

8. No, Mars has seen its day.

9. Now it has become a home

10. for forgotten people with shattered dreams

11. Looking for that break that just isn't there anymore.

12. These are today's visitors.

13. Then there are those who occupy this planet.

14. The ones who capitalize on these, the misfortunate.

15. But don't judge them too harshly.

16. They came to Mars

17. for the same reason as everyone else,

18. only now they have nowhere else to go.

19. All right.

20. Thank you very much, and thanks for coming out tonight.

21. And now, it gives me a great deal of pleasure to introduce to you

22. our dancers for this evening.

82. The economy of Durango was based

83. on the manufacturing of rocket ships.

84. To meet the rising costs of manufacturing

85. the planet's leaders shut down production and moved the industry

86. to the far away planet of Mayberry,

87. where the population was much more in need,

88. and therefore labor much less expensive.

89. This created a desperate situation for the citizens of Durango,

90. which resulted in a crime wave that dominated the entire planet.

91. This problem was not acknowledged by the lnter-Galactic Community

92. until the population of Durango

93. began drifting toward the wealthier planets.

94. Sorry to interrupt the party.

95. I'm Stingray Sam, this here's The Quasar Kid,

96. and we just got here from Durango.

97. To restore peace throughout the galaxy

98. the United Planets Organization

99. created a new economic system for the planet of Durango.

100. The former rocket-ship factories were now to be used as penitentiaries.

101. One quarter of Durango's population was given jobs as prison guards,

102. while the other three quarters were incarcerated.

103. The cost of Durango prison labor would be minimal.

104. With the rocket ship machinery still in place

105. and with a prison population of skilled factory workers,

106. it was the natural choice for the leaders of Durango

107. to remove all manufacturing contracts

108. from the now wealthy planet of Mayberry

109. and reintroduce the rocket-ship industry

110. to the prison population of Durango.

111. Unfortunately, Mayberry held its own in the rocket industry,

112. and Durango soon went bankrupt.

113. The penitentiaries were shut down,

114. and all of the convicts were released under the condition

115. that they would be called upon at any given moment

116. to resume paying their debt to society.

117. - What happened? - We got arrested.

118. By who?

119. Well, technically it was me that arrested you,

120. but I got arrested first, and I always kind of thought of us as a team.

121. Are you the one who hit me, Kid?

122. Yeah.

123. What the...? Did you put this thing on me?

124. I had to.

125. They said if I didn't put one on you, then mine would explode.

126. - That's just part of the deal. - I guess I don't blame you, then.

127. What do we gotta do to get 'em off?

128. It's just one job. We got to rescue a little girl.

129. Once we do that, these things will fall right off, and we're done.

130. - That's it, huh? - Yeah, well, we got off easy.

131. They got everybody else picking up garbage.

203. It was long believed that a child's gender was determined by its mother.

204. King Henry VIII believed it.

205. He executed several of his wives

206. because they were unable to bear him a son.

207. If Henry only knew what we know today

208. perhaps he would have cut of his own head.

209. Still, gender-decisive pills were created for the woman to take

210. until five generations ago

211. when a pill was invented to give the father the choice.

212. The wealthy and poor alike began having sons exclusively.

213. As a result, the poor and the wealthy classes

214. found themselves on the brink of extinction

215. until cloning was introduced to the upper class

216. as a mandatory measure to generate the next generation.

217. But health risks linked to cloning drained the economy

218. through increased medical expenses.

219. In its last attempt for survival,

220. strange new theories were openly developed,

221. but time was running out,

222. and things were looking bleak for the upper class

223. until two scientists

224. known only as Edward and Frederick

225. developed a radical new procedure.

226. They had successfully

227. blended their DNA

228. and then placed the living embryo

229. into the body of the scientist

230. know only as Frederick.

231. Funding was immediately pulled

232. from all research programs

233. and awarded to Edward and Frederick.

234. When the child was born,

235. he was given the name Fredward.

236. The entire upper-class population was impregnated

237. with double male genetic combos, and thus a new generation was born!

238. And so the plot begins to thicken, but not by much.

239. A girl is in need of rescue,

240. and the genetically designed figurehead of a very wealthy planet

241. is somehow involved.

255. initiate their pursuit of a man who bears that same name.

256. Their search begins...

257. at the Pregnant Man's Science and Trivia lnstitute,

258. where an important meeting

259. of The Pregnant Man's lnstitute of Science and Trivia

260. is about to take place.

261. They took my clipboard! They took my clipboard!

262. The one I use! Somebody stop them!

263. The triumphant efforts of this new brand of research

264. could not have been possible without this generous grant

265. from the Liberty Chew Chewing Tobacco Corporation.

268. Before we recess this afternoon, Dr. Adison and I

286. Sam here's come halfway across two galaxies

287. with a Stingray baby growing inside his very own belly!

290. My friend here ain't feeling quite right.

291. Maybe it's because he's got a baby Stingray in his stomach.

292. Yeah, that's probably what it is.

293. Anyway, I need to go sit down for a while,

294. and I was wondering where you keep all your files and records

295. and stuff like that.

296. We thought we'd go take a look-see.

297. Through the door at the end of the hall.

298. And what exactly is a "look-see"?

301. Yeah, we got a lot of looking to do.

302. Well, if there's only one girl,

308. To make it possible for society to function,

309. it became an unwritten law

310. that physical labor would not be looked down upon,

311. as long as you were famous at it.

312. Jerry was a famous carpenter,

313. but fame was of no interest to Famous Jerry.

314. He was a loner, a rebel.

315. So unlike the norm was Famous Jerry the Carpenter

316. that he protested his obligation to reproduce a male child

317. by secretly taking gender-decisive drugs.

318. Jerry privately gave birth to a female child.

319. Her gender was assumed male

320. and therefore never reported to the authorities.

321. Fredward had always been a stranger to effort.

322. He had achieved his wealth and fame through the act of being born.

323. His every need had forever been fulfilled,

324. and though he grew up in seclusion, he was never alone.

325. He had always been surrounded by a group of wealthy young followers

326. who valued his every word.

327. His ideas were never questioned.

328. As a result, Fredward was convinced

329. that his thoughts were the product of divine inspiration.

330. Though he had never developed any skills and had no talents,

331. he declared himself an artist,

332. and to the amazement of his followers,

333. Fredward began what was to be his masterpiece.

334. He was going to redesign his own living quarters,

335. and the only man famous enough to make this dream come true

336. was Famous Jerry the Carpenter.

337. Famous Jerry was sequestered within the compound.

338. He was forced to listen to Fredward's high-art concepts.

339. None of Fredward's ideas were based in reality.

340. They could never be achieved.

341. After one week, Famous Jerry quit the job.

342. Fredward was devastated.

343. Jerry was to be arrested and sentenced to death.

344. Before Jerry had a chance to retrieve his daughter and flee the planet,

345. their home was broken into and searched.

346. The girl was discovered and taken directly to the Fredward Compound.

347. Famous Jerry fled the planet alone.

348. Jerry reported the kidnapping

349. to leaders of the lnter-Galactic Community.

350. Arrangements for her rescue were made.

351. - Are you leaving us so soon? - Yeah. We gotta get going.

352. - Where will you be going? - To find Fredward.

353. Oh, no more cheese and tobacco for these boys.

354. They're off to see Fredward.

355. You'll never see Fredward, young man.

356. He's far too important.

357. Thank you for your hospitality.

358. Oh, and by the way,

359. you said you had traveled halfway across two galaxies?

360. There's only one galaxy.

362. With an understanding of their mission

363. and a sense of purpose behind their every step,

369. Our story begins where it left off.

370. Here, among that certain class of planets

371. where we find Stingray Sam and The Quasar Kid

372. in pursuit of a man named Fredward.

373. Like every icon of every great economic power,

374. Fredward was well protected.

375. He lived in a grand fortress above the law

376. where no man dare enter without an invitation.

377. It was because of this

378. that no security system was maintained,

379. making it possible for Stingray Sam and The Quasar Kid

380. to gain entrance.

381. Hey!

382. You're not supposed to be back here.

383. No one is supposed to see me before the performance.

384. What performance?

385. You're here for the party, aren't you?

386. What party?

387. Yeah, we're here for the party.

388. Do you remember what happened back on Durango

389. just before the prisons went bankrupt and they let us all go?

390. - You mean the Mascot program? - Yeah.

391. Yeah.

392. I was in a solitary-confinement suit

393. that looked like the Liberty Chew Grasshopper.

394. I couldn't move my arms.

395. Yeah. Well, when you were gone, they gave me a new cellmate.

396. His name was Cubby.

397. Excuse me I'm new here in this prison

398. I think that I was sitting there See, there's my piece of cornbread

399. It was said that Cubby was not right for prison,

400. or perhaps prison just wasn't right for Cubby.

401. Either way, his timing could not have been more perfect

402. for the Durango prison facilities

403. were on the brink of financial disaster.

404. It was during these, the darkest of hours,

405. when an advertising firm approached the planet's CEO with a proposal.

406. It was to be known as "The Corporate Mascot Rehabilitation Program."

407. In this program, prisoners were rented out as corporate mascots.

408. Mascot costumes were designed and manufactured

409. within the prison facility.

410. The exteriors of these costumes were designed to attract and amuse

411. happy conventioneers and their families

412. while reminding them

413. of the corporations they were representing.

414. The interiors of the costumes were designed to restrain the inmates

415. in order to keep them from committing crimes

416. or from endangering themselves and those around them.

417. When a prisoner became suicidal, his attempts would fail

418. while appearing comical and charming to any onlookers.

419. Eventually hygiene became an issue.

420. The smell of an unwashed prisoner would penetrate the costume

421. and give the corporation it represented a bad name.

422. A new approach was quickly put into effect.

423. Through the use of mass/matter compression,

424. a prisoner could be reduced in size,

425. infused into the body of a small robot,

426. dressed accordingly,

427. and placed on a shelf for public viewing.

428. No personal contact was ever made with the public.

429. Cubby was a master at mass/matter compression.

430. Without him, Durango would not have had a program.

431. Cubby requested that he be allowed to develop the device

432. in the privacy of his cell.

433. His request was granted, and in a short while

434. six prototypes were developed and delivered.

435. Two additional devices were secretly manufactured

436. and hidden behind the wall of his cell.

437. These two devices were to be worn by Cubby and The Quasar Kid

438. while escaping through the prison's tiny ventilation system.

439. On the morning of their planned escape,

440. Cubby infused himself within one of the tiny suits.

441. He hid behind the toilet and waited for The Quasar Kid

442. to finish his kitchen duty.

443. Kid was distracted and unable to join Cubby as planned.

444. As Cubby patiently waited behind the toilet,

445. a prison janitor hosed down their cell.

446. The water short-circuited Cubby's suit.

447. He was killed within seconds.

448. When Kid returned to their cell, he discovered the miniature device

449. that contained the tiny remains of his friend.

450. Only then did he remember their escape plan.

451. Cubby was secretly buried the following morning

452. in the prison community garden.

453. And you expect me to get into that thing?

454. - It's easy. Just close your eyes. - No! Hey! Hey! Hey!

455. How's it feel?

456. It's a little tight.

457. - I think my leg's asleep. - Can you move it?

458. - Yeah, I think so. - Well, just keep moving it.

459. You'll be all right. Now, hang on to my pant leg.

460. Allow me to introduce our visitors.

461. I must ask you to excuse their somewhat lackadaisical manners,

462. but I have conditioned them, or brainwashed them.

463. You will notice that I have told them that they may smoke.

464. I've allowed my people to have a little fun

465. in the selection of bizarre tobacco substitutes.

466. Are you enjoying your cigarette, Ed?

467. Yes, Fredward.

468. Oh, tastes good, like a cigarette should.

469. And now, comrades, may I introduce the famous...

486. - I ran really fast! - Yeah, you did.

487. - Can we go see my daddy now? - As soon as The Kid gets back.

488. It shouldn't take him very long.

489. If I know The Kid, he won't stay in there any longer than he has to.

490. Stingray Sam and the girl waited on board the ship,

491. but what of The Quasar Kid?

492. Had Fredward discovered their plans?

493. Had The Quasar Kid been brainwashed

494. for Fredward's amusement?

495. Would the girl ever see her father,

496. and will Stingray Sam remain a tiny, little robot indefinitely?

500. It was a long night of angst, anxiety and apprehension

501. for Stingray Sam and the Carpenter's daughter.

502. They waited for what felt like an eternity

503. for the return of The Quasar Kid,

504. and by this point, they could only fear the worst had transpired

505. and were beginning to give up hope,

506. when suddenly...

507. Morning, Stingray. Ma'am.

508. - And where were you last night? - How'd you get out of the suit?

509. The girl let me out. Where were you?

510. I was keeping Fredward and the boys busy

511. so you could get the girl and get on out of there.

512. We were out of there in two minutes.

513. How was I supposed to know that?

514. I was gettin' ready to fly out of here.

515. - We were gonna leave you a note. - You would never have done that.

516. Show him your note.

517. That's a mighty nice note. Thank you.

518. Let's fly out of here before they figure out she's missing.

519. Stingray Sam, The Quasar Kid,

520. and the Carpenter's daughter were able to escape the planet unnoticed,

521. but back at the Fredward Compound,

522. a flurry of activity was taking place.

523. The Artist, who had originally been hired

524. to perform at Fredward's party,

525. was discovered gagged and bound in his dressing room.

526. At the same time, the Carpenter's daughter was found to be missing.

527. But it was the absence of The Quasar Kid

528. that pushed Fredward over the edge.

529. He had not felt such a loss since Famous Jerry the Carpenter

530. had abandoned him.

531. Fredward's disciples tried to comfort Fredward

532. by belittling The Quasar Kid.

533. They tried to discredit his participation in the evening's events.

534. They callously mocked his dancing.

535. Fredward became furious.

536. He scolded them in defense of The Quasar Kid

537. and had them arrested for trespassing.

538. When the police had taken away the last of his guests,

539. Fredward did something that he had never done before.

540. He left the compound.

541. His anger gave him a bravery that he had never known.

542. In an abandoned rocket ship of a convicted guest

543. Fredward escaped his planet unnoticed.

544. - Hey, did you brush your teeth? - Yeah.

545. Did you use that white toothbrush I gave you?

546. - Yeah. - All right. Go to bed.

547. - Can you play me a song on that? - No.

548. Yes.

549. Go get into bed.

550. I think she's asleep.

551. Look at this.

552. They came off. I guess we did it. We're free.

553. You're right.

554. Thanks for bringing me with ya, Kid!

555. I couldn't have done it without you.
