1. Get ready for the
feel, the feel of real. X1.Copy !req
2. No pain, no gain.Copy !req
3. Pizza, guys.Copy !req
4. Whoo-hoo!Copy !req
5. Hello, Wade.Copy !req
6. Hello, Mrs. Gilmore.Copy !req
7. What's the matter?
Life getting you down?Copy !req
8. I was born in 2027.Copy !req
9. After the Corn Syrup Droughts,
after the Bandwidth Riots.Copy !req
10. After people stopped trying
to fix problemsCopy !req
11. and just tried
to outlive them.Copy !req
12. My parents, they didn't make
it through those times,Copy !req
13. so I live here in Columbus,
Ohio, with my Aunt Alice.Copy !req
14. In 2045, Columbus is the
fastest-growing city on Earth.Copy !req
15. It's where Halliday and Morrow
started Gregarious Games.Copy !req
16. These days,
reality is a bummer.Copy !req
17. Everyone is looking
for a way to escape,Copy !req
18. and that's why Halliday...Copy !req
19. That's why he was
such a hero to us.Copy !req
20. He showed us that we could go somewhere
without going anywhere at all.Copy !req
21. You don't need a destinationCopy !req
22. when you're running on
an omnidirectional treadmillCopy !req
23. with quadraphonic,
pressure-sensitive underlay.Copy !req
24. James Halliday saw the future.Copy !req
25. And then he built it.Copy !req
26. He gave us a place to go.Copy !req
27. A place calledCopy !req
28. the OASIS.Copy !req
29. This is the OASIS.Copy !req
30. It's a place where the limits of
reality are your own imagination.Copy !req
31. You can do anything...Copy !req
32. go anywhere.Copy !req
33. Like the vacation planet.Copy !req
34. Surf a 50-foot monster wave
in Hawaii.Copy !req
35. You can ski down the pyramids.Copy !req
36. You can climb Mount EverestCopy !req
37. with Batman.Copy !req
38. Check out this place. It's a
casino the size of a planet.Copy !req
39. You can lose your money there.Copy !req
40. You can get married.
You can get divorced.Copy !req
41. You can...
You can go in there.Copy !req
42. People come to the OASIS for
all the things they can do,Copy !req
43. but they stay because of all
the things they can be.Copy !req
44. Tall, beautiful, scary,
a different sex,Copy !req
45. a different species,
live-action, cartoon.Copy !req
46. It's all your call.Copy !req
47. Yeah, that's me.
Well, that's my avatar.Copy !req
48. At least, until I feel
like changing it.Copy !req
49. Except for eating, sleeping,
and bathroom breaks,Copy !req
50. whatever people wanna do,
they do it in the OASIS.Copy !req
51. And since everyone is here, this
is where we meet each other.Copy !req
52. It's where we make friends.Copy !req
53. Locate Aech.Copy !req
54. Locating Aech.Copy !req
55. Aech located.Copy !req
56. Sector 12. Planet Doom.Copy !req
57. Planet Doom, the most
dangerous place in the OASIS,Copy !req
58. and a pretty great place
to pick up coin.Copy !req
59. Figures Aech would be there.Copy !req
60. Aech is my best friend
in the OASIS.Copy !req
61. He's my best friend, period.Copy !req
62. Even though I've never actually
met him in the real world.Copy !req
63. - What's up, Aech?
- Hey, what up, Z?Copy !req
64. Next race is in 20 minutes,
and I can't do the late one.Copy !req
65. What the hell are you up to?Copy !req
66. Man, gettin' my kills on, bro.Copy !req
67. Is that Daito?Copy !req
68. Daito and Sho.Copy !req
69. This an artifact hunt?Copy !req
70. Yup. Gregarious 120.Copy !req
71. Turn into any giant robot
for two minutes. That's rad.Copy !req
72. Artifacts.Copy !req
73. Those were key.Copy !req
74. Halliday made sure
the OASIS was litteredCopy !req
75. with enough
randomly powerful stuffCopy !req
76. that anyone could win
if they had the skills.Copy !req
77. Death matches and artifact hunts
are a good way to coin-snatch,Copy !req
78. but depending on your level
of armor, they're risky.Copy !req
79. You see,
everyone starts the same,Copy !req
80. but the more coin you make...Copy !req
81. - Mom! Mom!
- ... the more you level up.Copy !req
82. If you get killed, your avatar
can come back to life...Copy !req
83. Go get your dad!Copy !req
84. but you lose
all your stuff.Copy !req
85. Everything you've
ever worked for.Copy !req
86. All your money.Copy !req
87. Your clothes.Copy !req
88. Your weapons.Copy !req
89. Since people spend most of
their time in the OASIS...Copy !req
90. losing your shit means...Copy !req
91. Well, losing your shit.Copy !req
92. Aech, 10 minutes
until the race starts.Copy !req
93. Okay, Mom, I heard you.Copy !req
94. You see, the OASIS was the
brainchild of James Halliday.Copy !req
95. He and his partner, Ogden Morrow,
released the first OASIS build in 2025.Copy !req
96. It was an instant success, and
it made them both very rich.Copy !req
97. But Morrow was out of the picture
after a few years. And Halliday?Copy !req
98. He wasn't just the owner of
the world's biggest company.Copy !req
99. He was like a god.
People loved him.Copy !req
100. They worshiped him
as much as his creation.Copy !req
101. Maybe we should stop
talking about itCopy !req
102. and start, uh, showing it.Copy !req
103. If you all wanna reach
under your seats,Copy !req
104. you'll find that there's nothing there.Copy !req
105. But we're gonna... we're each
gonna bring you one now.Copy !req
106. And then,
on January 7, 2040...Copy !req
107. He died.Copy !req
108. And what he left behindCopy !req
109. changed everything.Copy !req
110. Hello. I am James Halliday.Copy !req
111. If you're watching this,
I'm dead.Copy !req
112. Before I died, I created what we
in the biz call an "Easter egg."Copy !req
113. A hidden object in a game that gives
special powers to whoever discovers it.Copy !req
114. The first person
to find the eggCopy !req
115. I've hidden somewhere
inside the OASISCopy !req
116. will inherit my stock
in Gregarious Games,Copy !req
117. currently valued in excess
of half a million do...Copy !req
118. Uh, half a trillion
dollars' worth,Copy !req
119. and total control
of the OASIS itself.Copy !req
120. In the form of my avatar,
Anorak the All-Knowing,Copy !req
121. I created three keys.Copy !req
122. Three hidden challenges
test for worthy traitsCopy !req
123. revealing three hidden keys
to three magic gates.Copy !req
124. And those with the skill
to survive these straitsCopy !req
125. will reach the end,
where the prize awaits.Copy !req
126. Off you go, keys.Copy !req
127. The keys aren't just laying
around under a rock somewhere.Copy !req
128. I suppose you could say
they're invisible,Copy !req
129. hidden in a dark room
that's at the center of a mazeCopy !req
130. that's located somewhereCopy !req
131. up here.Copy !req
132. Let the hunt
for Halliday's Easter eggCopy !req
133. begin.Copy !req
134. The challenge
is to find three keys,Copy !req
135. but in five years, no one
has even gotten one key.Copy !req
136. And the big scoreboard?
Still empty.Copy !req
137. Some long-forgotten gunter
cracked the first clueCopy !req
138. and found the first challenge.Copy !req
139. Then, this portal appeared.Copy !req
140. But the challenge to win the first
key was a race designed by HallidayCopy !req
141. that was so hard,
no one had ever finished it.Copy !req
142. The only ones still trying are the
gunters, as in "egg hunters,"Copy !req
143. like me and Sho and Daito,
and my best friend, Aech.Copy !req
144. Oh, and of course, the Sixers.Copy !req
145. The Sixers work for IOI...Copy !req
146. Sixers!Copy !req
147. Innovative
Online Industries.Copy !req
148. They're the second-largest
company in the worldCopy !req
149. with designs
on becoming the first.Copy !req
150. Which is why they're putting
everything they gotCopy !req
151. into winning
Halliday's contest.Copy !req
152. Buckle up!Copy !req
153. Sit in!Copy !req
154. We call 'em "Sixers"
'cause that's the company rule.Copy !req
155. No name, just numbers.Copy !req
156. They have a support team
made up of Halliday scholars.Copy !req
157. Like me, they spend all their
time studying pop cultureCopy !req
158. that Halliday
was obsessed with,Copy !req
159. trying to find clues
to solve the contest.Copy !req
160. They're just following
the orders of the head of IOI,Copy !req
161. this dickweed
named Nolan Sorrento.Copy !req
162. How'd you get here before me?Copy !req
163. Well, I didn't make a pit stop
at the hair salon.Copy !req
164. - What up, Z?
- What's up, Aech?Copy !req
165. Saved you a spot.Copy !req
166. Thanks, bro.Copy !req
167. I gotta go to the back.Copy !req
168. Ugh. So you can skim coins
from crashed cars?Copy !req
169. - That's just sad, man.
- Fuel's low.Copy !req
170. Oh, but you still had enough to pay
for that Something About Mary hairdo.Copy !req
171. First to the key.Copy !req
172. First to the egg!Copy !req
173. Aech, are you seeing this?Copy !req
174. Yeah, I see it. That's
Kaneda's bike from Akira.Copy !req
175. It's a licensed skin
over a standard frame.Copy !req
176. No, not the bike.
Forget the bike.Copy !req
177. The girl,
I think it's Art3mis.Copy !req
178. The Art3mis? The Sixer Fixer?Copy !req
179. I've seen all her walk-throughs,
her Twitch streams.Copy !req
180. It's her. It's definitely her.Copy !req
181. Go, go, go!
Get there! Come on!Copy !req
182. You got it, you got it!Copy !req
183. Balls.Copy !req
184. She's not gonna make it.Copy !req
185. Bail! Bail out!Copy !req
186. Bail!Copy !req
187. Ow!Copy !req
188. Damn, I loved that bike.Copy !req
189. Oh, Aech could...Copy !req
190. Well, he's my friend,
but he could fix it for you.Copy !req
191. This is my workshop.
Touch nothing.Copy !req
192. Where did you find
an Iron Giant?Copy !req
193. Find it? I'm building it.
That's a commission.Copy !req
194. Oh, yeah. Aech is
top-rated on the mod boards.Copy !req
195. People all over the OASIS
pay him serious coin.Copy !req
196. Oh, hey, check this out!Copy !req
197. Hey. Z, yo.Copy !req
198. - The Galactica, of course.
- These are my babies, all right, man?Copy !req
199. Sulaco, from Aliens.Copy !req
200. Dude, how are you
showing off my shit?Copy !req
201. Valley Forge, from Silent Running.
Oh, where's the Harkonnen Drop-Ship?Copy !req
202. That thing is sick.
Folds space like a boss.Copy !req
203. I mean, you can get from Incipio
to Arrakis in three seconds...Copy !req
204. Fingers!Copy !req
205. You'll have to excuse him.Copy !req
206. He gets a little nervous
around pretty girls.Copy !req
207. I can fix it in 10 minutes.Copy !req
208. Yup. He's pretty great.Copy !req
209. I assume you and Shoulder
Blades are clanned up.Copy !req
210. Oh, Aech? Nah.Copy !req
211. I mean, he's really good,
but I don't clan.Copy !req
212. Oh, 'cause you're Parzival,Copy !req
213. as in the knight who found
the Holy Grail by himself.Copy !req
214. What about you, Art3mis?Copy !req
215. Goddess of the hunt. Clans must
be killing to sign you up.Copy !req
216. - Favorite shooter?
- Excuse me?Copy !req
217. James Halliday's
favorite first-person shooter.Copy !req
218. - What?
- Oh. GoldenEye.Copy !req
219. - Playing as?
- Oddjob. Is this a test?Copy !req
220. Favorite game variant?Copy !req
221. Game variant was "slappers
only." No weapons.Copy !req
222. I know what "slappers only" means.
Racer?Copy !req
223. Turbo. And his favorite food
was Hot Pockets.Copy !req
224. Favorite restaurant
was Chuck E Cheese.Copy !req
225. Song was Video Killed the
Radio Star by the Buggles.Copy !req
226. Video was Take on Me by A-ha.Copy !req
227. Oh, oh... His favorite
quote was from Superman.Copy !req
228. "Some people
can read War and PeaceCopy !req
229. "and come away thinking it's
a simple adventure story..."Copy !req
230. "Others can read the ingredients on
the back of a chewing-gum wrapperCopy !req
231. "and unlock the secrets
of the universe."Copy !req
232. Lex Luthor.Copy !req
233. Cool.Copy !req
234. What would you do? If you won.
The whole contest, I mean.Copy !req
235. Oh! I mean, I've got tons
of plans in the real world.Copy !req
236. I'd... I'd move into a huge mansion,
buy a bunch of cool shit, not be poor.Copy !req
237. Now I know
why you stopped short.Copy !req
238. I stopped because of Kong. No
one ever makes it past Kong.Copy !req
239. That... That's...
That's, like, a rule.Copy !req
240. Well, then you know it can't be true.
Because Halliday hated making rules.Copy !req
241. I can't afford to zero out.Copy !req
242. - You're afraid to lose your shit.
- No, I'm not!Copy !req
243. What happens when IOI
offers you guaranteed coinCopy !req
244. for the keys to the kingdom?Copy !req
245. Nolan Sorrento
takes over the world.Copy !req
246. A real gunter would risk everything
to save the OASIS from IOI.Copy !req
247. Who said that?Copy !req
248. Me.Copy !req
249. There you go. Good as new.Copy !req
250. Thanks for the fix-up, my man.Copy !req
251. That's better.Copy !req
252. I'll wave to you
from the finish line, McFly.Copy !req
253. That went well.Copy !req
254. Thanks to you,
Captain Big Mouth.Copy !req
255. Wade? Wade?
Where the hell are my gloves?Copy !req
256. Shit. I gotta go.Copy !req
257. X1.Copy !req
258. When I'm after gold on Planet Doom,
I need every edge I can get.Copy !req
259. Every push, punch, gunshot,
you feel it all.Copy !req
260. Get ready for the
feel, the feel of real. X1.Copy !req
261. The X1 is like
wearing a second skin.Copy !req
262. A skin that kicks ass.Copy !req
263. I zeroed out 'cause
of your broke-ass gloves.Copy !req
264. Who told you to use them?Copy !req
265. You took hers.Copy !req
266. So you lost a death match.Copy !req
267. Why don't you just respawn and
level up like everyone else?Copy !req
268. You don't get it.Copy !req
269. I bought all these power-ups for
this challenge, and I lost it all.Copy !req
270. That artifact
was gonna pay for the house!Copy !req
271. Wait.Copy !req
272. How much of our house money
did you spend on upgrades?Copy !req
273. Well, all of it,
but I was gonna win.Copy !req
274. That was our ticket
out of here.Copy !req
275. You idiot.Copy !req
276. No, but I only lost 'cause
of the bad gloves.Copy !req
277. Our house! Our goddamn house!Copy !req
278. My boys
were in that challenge.Copy !req
279. You couldn't have beat them
in a bootsuit, you noob.Copy !req
280. Stop! No! No!Copy !req
281. Alice, call the police!Copy !req
282. No, we are not
calling the cops.Copy !req
283. Go to your room, Rick.Copy !req
284. Aw, come on, Alice.Copy !req
285. Why do you put up with this guy?
He's a shitshow.Copy !req
286. I ought to kick the both of you out.
I swear to G-O-D, Wade Watts,Copy !req
287. if I catch you
touching my stuff again,Copy !req
288. not joking... Out.Copy !req
289. "Wade Watts."Copy !req
290. My dad picked that nameCopy !req
291. because it sounded
like a superhero's alter ego,Copy !req
292. like Peter Parker
or Bruce Banner.Copy !req
293. But he died when I was a kid.Copy !req
294. My mom, too,
and I ended up here,Copy !req
295. living with Aunt AliceCopy !req
296. and her endless string
of hard-loving losers.Copy !req
297. "Halliday hated making rules."Copy !req
298. Why is that line
sticking in my head?Copy !req
299. Maybe it's 'cause Art3mis
said it, and she's hot.Copy !req
300. Maybe it's because
she called me out,Copy !req
301. sitting here
in my tiny corner of nowhere,Copy !req
302. protecting my small slice
of nothing.Copy !req
303. Or maybe...Copy !req
304. Maybe it's because
that line means somethingCopy !req
305. and I missed it.Copy !req
306. The day the contest
was announced,Copy !req
307. the Halliday Journals
appeared.Copy !req
308. He told us to look in his brain.
This was the next best thing.Copy !req
309. At first, it was jammed with
gunters looking for answers.Copy !req
310. Now, the once-crowded halls
of Halliday's memoriesCopy !req
311. are left to people like me.Copy !req
312. Parzival. Oh, joy!Copy !req
313. And how will you eat up
my valuable search time today?Copy !req
314. Gregarious Games, 2029...
Office party.Copy !req
315. Office party. Yes, you've only
seen it a thousand times.Copy !req
316. Why not go back?Copy !req
317. Each entry into Halliday's
Journals is meticulously assembledCopy !req
318. from personal photographs,
home video recordings,Copy !req
319. surveillance, and nanny cams.Copy !req
320. All rendered into a three-dimensional
virtual experience.Copy !req
321. Also, Halliday archived every film,
game, book, and television programCopy !req
322. he ever saw,
located on the mezzanine.Copy !req
323. No weapons or mature-themed avatars
are permitted within the Journals.Copy !req
324. Please enjoy your time with
us, and happy gunting!Copy !req
325. I like cleaning up.Copy !req
326. Okay, Jim,
I'm, uh... I'm going.Copy !req
327. Everything changes, Jim.
Everything evolves.Copy !req
328. Some things are perfect
just the way they are. Asteroids.Copy !req
329. People don't live inside
an Asteroids arcade cabinet.Copy !req
330. I know that.Copy !req
331. Yeah, well, people are living
inside the arcade we built.Copy !req
332. - I built.
- Uh, well...Copy !req
333. Right. Well, I guess you
can say whatever you want.Copy !req
334. I don't really wanna
talk about it anymore.Copy !req
335. No, of course
you don't wanna talk about it.Copy !req
336. You're forcing me out.Copy !req
337. Closer on Halliday.Copy !req
338. Look, invention
comes with responsibilitiesCopy !req
339. you didn't ask for.Copy !req
340. All right, if you make
something people want or needCopy !req
341. then it's up to you to set the limits.
You have to make some rules.Copy !req
342. "I don't wanna
make any more rules."Copy !req
343. I don't wanna make
any more rules.Copy !req
344. "I'm a dreamer."Copy !req
345. I'm a dreamer.Copy !req
346. - I build worlds.
- "I build worlds."Copy !req
347. We created something beautiful,
Jim, but it's changed.Copy !req
348. Okay? It's really
not a game anymore.Copy !req
349. Are we finished?Copy !req
350. I liked how things were
when they were...Copy !req
351. When it was a game.Copy !req
352. And we're back to where we started.
But that's the point, isn't it?Copy !req
353. Things move forward
whether you like it or not.Copy !req
354. Yeah, we're finished.Copy !req
355. Fine.Copy !req
356. Why can't we
go backwards, for once?Copy !req
357. Backwards, really fast.
Fast as we can.Copy !req
358. Really put the pedal to
the metal, you know?Copy !req
359. Go back 10 seconds!Copy !req
360. Why can't we go backwards,
for once?Copy !req
361. Backwards, really fast.
Fast as we can.Copy !req
362. Really put the pedal to
the metal, you know?Copy !req
363. Bill and Ted did it.Copy !req
364. Back again so soon?Copy !req
365. Careful not to lose your shit.Copy !req
366. You figured something out.Copy !req
367. Parzival, tell me.Copy !req
368. Nice racing, Padawan.
You're the first to finish.Copy !req
369. Mr. Halliday... Anorak.Copy !req
370. It's such an honor.Copy !req
371. The honor is all mine.Copy !req
372. Get yourself a clue.Copy !req
373. Who is this Parzival, and
how the hell is he winning?Copy !req
374. Well, here's a better question.
Who cares?Copy !req
375. Halliday's contest
is vitally important.Copy !req
376. I mean, it's nothing less than a
war for control of the future.Copy !req
377. But this Parzival?
He's not even clanned up.Copy !req
378. He's alone. We have an army.Copy !req
379. And yet,
he's got the first key.Copy !req
380. Yeah, he has a key,Copy !req
381. but you have to get three
of 'em to win the contest.Copy !req
382. Our stock dove 6% yesterday.Copy !req
383. Loyalty division is reporting
profits of 28%. FNale.Copy !req
384. We're opening five new
loyalty centers this month.Copy !req
385. Debt Services dwarfs Hardware.Copy !req
386. Now, you really wanna talk
to me about stock prices?Copy !req
387. The shareholders
won't be happy.Copy !req
388. It's not our job to make them happy.
It's our job to make them money,Copy !req
389. but once we launch this little
baby, they're gonna flip.Copy !req
390. We call this Pure O2.Copy !req
391. This is the first
of our planned upgrades.Copy !req
392. Once we can roll back some of
Halliday's ad restrictions,Copy !req
393. we estimate
we can sell up to 80%Copy !req
394. of an individual's visual field before
inducing seizures, so picture this...Copy !req
395. All of this implies
we win the contest.Copy !req
396. Indeed, it does.Copy !req
397. Dude, you won the key
and 100,000 coins?Copy !req
398. As soon as I took the key,Copy !req
399. all the coins
just appeared in my account.Copy !req
400. I'll tell you what, I'm
soiling my haptics right now.Copy !req
401. What the hell's a Cataclyst?Copy !req
402. A bomb. Kills every avatar
on a planet, even the owner.Copy !req
403. Who'd want that?Copy !req
404. IOI.
They buy everything.Copy !req
405. Twenty-thou
for the holy hand grenade?Copy !req
406. That's a steal!Copy !req
407. Whoa! Zemeckis Cube!
I need one of those.Copy !req
408. Okay, don't spend
all your money.Copy !req
409. X1 haptic bootsuit.Copy !req
410. Oh, yeah!Copy !req
411. i-R0k, old friend.
How are you?Copy !req
412. To be honest,
I have kind of a neck thing.Copy !req
413. It's like a carpel-tunnel dealCopy !req
414. but with your neck,
if that's even a thing.Copy !req
415. So if you could just stand
to... to your right.Copy !req
416. My right, your left.Copy !req
417. Thanks, it's the repetitive stress.
Oh.Copy !req
418. Here he is.Copy !req
419. The steampunk pirate king.
I knew him well, Sorrento.Copy !req
420. There are only three things
in this world I hate,Copy !req
421. steampunk, pirates,
and tabbouleh.Copy !req
422. I mean,
why do they even have it?Copy !req
423. Is there a reason
we're meeting here?Copy !req
424. Yes, Nolan. The Orb of Osuvox.Copy !req
425. You wanted it. He had it.
And so here it is.Copy !req
426. It creates an impenetrable magic
shield that can only be taken downCopy !req
427. by a magic spell.Copy !req
428. The Orb of Osuvox.Copy !req
429. Don't say that again.Copy !req
430. Okay.Copy !req
431. Now, I'm gonna need you
to keep this for now.Copy !req
432. I'm gonna let you know
when I wanna use it.Copy !req
433. Okay?Copy !req
434. Right now, though,
I have another job for you.Copy !req
435. Ah.Copy !req
436. Parzival.Copy !req
437. Let me guess, you want
him off the scoreboard.Copy !req
438. Can you do that?Copy !req
439. Well, he's a superstar.Copy !req
440. He made it
through the first gateCopy !req
441. and avatars are gonna be
on him like hoes on Santa.Copy !req
442. i-R0k, how much more
do you want?Copy !req
443. That's what I like about you, Nolan.
You never lick.Copy !req
444. You bite straight
to the chocolaty centerCopy !req
445. of the Tootsie Pop.Copy !req
446. Remember that old commercial,
with the owl?Copy !req
447. i-R0k.Copy !req
448. Three times my normal fee.Copy !req
449. Done.Copy !req
450. Wait, really?
I should have asked for five.Copy !req
451. Is four still on the table?Copy !req
452. There's five of us
on the big board now.Copy !req
453. Art3mis was next,
no surprise there.Copy !req
454. She was on the track when I won.
She saw me going backwards.Copy !req
455. I gave Aech a tip, made him promise not
to say anything, and then he won next.Copy !req
456. I'm pretty sure
he bragged to our pal Daito,Copy !req
457. 'cause he won right after.Copy !req
458. And of course, Daito told
his best friend, Sho...Copy !req
459. He totally totaled his car,Copy !req
460. but then Sho got it, too.Copy !req
461. "A creator who hates
his own creation.Copy !req
462. "A hidden key, a leap not taken.
Retrace your steps, escape your past."Copy !req
463. "A creator who hates
his own creation.Copy !req
464. "A hidden key, a leap not taken.
Retrace your steps, escape your past.Copy !req
465. "And the key of jade
will be yours at last."Copy !req
466. "Escape your past."Copy !req
467. What part of your past are you
trying to escape, Halliday?Copy !req
468. - Hey, it's Parzival!
- Dude!Copy !req
469. You're, like,
totally my hero!Copy !req
470. Hey, Parzival!
Over here!Copy !req
471. Dude, you're amazing!Copy !req
472. Hey, Parzival! Right here!
Let me get an autograph!Copy !req
473. Watch it!Copy !req
474. You're famous now! You can't
just go wherever you want!Copy !req
475. No, no, no, I...Copy !req
476. Huh?Copy !req
477. Ahh!Copy !req
478. That is... That is not funny.Copy !req
479. Oh, God.Copy !req
480. Ugh.Copy !req
481. Oh, God. Don't you get it?Copy !req
482. You're "the Parzival" now.Copy !req
483. You have to have a disguise.Copy !req
484. Okay, here.Copy !req
485. Clark Kent glasses.Copy !req
486. They hide your identity
without changing your look.Copy !req
487. I'm not wearing that.Copy !req
488. This is great.Copy !req
489. The way your inventory
bursts out when you die.Copy !req
490. They didn't want
any more blood.Copy !req
491. This is right before
the OASIS went live.Copy !req
492. Six days prior.
December 2nd, 2025.Copy !req
493. Check this out.Copy !req
494. You know who that is?Copy !req
495. Is that Sorrento?Copy !req
496. Sorrento started
as an intern.Copy !req
497. He claims he learned
at the feet of the master.Copy !req
498. That's how he convinced IOI
to create the Sixers for him,Copy !req
499. his Halliday knowledge.Copy !req
500. But ask Ogden Morrow?Copy !req
501. He says the only thing Sorrento
actually knew about HallidayCopy !req
502. was how he liked his coffee.Copy !req
503. You could have, like,
different tiers of accounts,Copy !req
504. like a gold member.Copy !req
505. A person could be
silver, platinum, bronze.Copy !req
506. You know, depending on
what they paid.Copy !req
507. You know, highest one maybe being
"Water" because "OASIS," right?Copy !req
508. Hell of a latte.Copy !req
509. Can you fast-forward to the
stuff about Halliday's date?Copy !req
510. What? Halliday actually went
on a date?Copy !req
511. So, what happened?Copy !req
512. Nothing. I invited her over.Copy !req
513. Well, did you at least
get her name?Copy !req
514. Yeah. Kira, I told you, like the
character in The Dark Crystal.Copy !req
515. That's her gamer tag.Copy !req
516. - Karen.
- Karen.Copy !req
517. Yeah, okay? Karen Underwood.Copy !req
518. No, no. Karen Underwood,
as in Ogden Morrow's wife?Copy !req
519. Just watch.Copy !req
520. So, listen, you and Karen Underwood.
What'd you do?Copy !req
521. She wanted to go dancing,Copy !req
522. so we watched a movie.Copy !req
523. And?Copy !req
524. Where's the juice?Copy !req
525. Give me some juice!Copy !req
526. - There is no juice!
- Oh, God!Copy !req
527. Hold the phone.Copy !req
528. Halliday went on a date
with Ogden Morrow's wife?Copy !req
529. Just once, years before they
were even married, but yeah.Copy !req
530. And despite that,
and the fact that she died,Copy !req
531. the name "Kira" is only mentioned
once in all of Halliday's Journals.Copy !req
532. That's not possible.Copy !req
533. It is. Look it up.Copy !req
534. What we just saw is the only
time she's ever mentioned.Copy !req
535. It makes no sense.Copy !req
536. She was an important part
of both their lives.Copy !req
537. I'll bet you anything.
All my coin.Copy !req
538. Search
"Karen Underwood Morrow."Copy !req
539. Kira, I told you, like the
character in The Dark Crystal.Copy !req
540. That's her gamer tag.Copy !req
541. Halliday purposely removed every
mention of her except for this one.Copy !req
542. That's weird. Why?Copy !req
543. It's like, it was just
so painful for himCopy !req
544. to have to see her face
or hear her name.Copy !req
545. Well, he loved her.Copy !req
546. He couldn't tell that
to Morrow.Copy !req
547. Oh, that's sad. He should
have told her how he felt.Copy !req
548. Yeah, well,
he missed his chance.Copy !req
549. Look.Copy !req
550. I found the clue to the race
in the other scene, but...Copy !req
551. I've always felt
that the biggest clueCopy !req
552. to the contest
was hidden here.Copy !req
553. You're right.Copy !req
554. I lose.Copy !req
555. Don't sweat it, Curator.Copy !req
556. You see, Kira is the Rosebud
at the center of his story.Copy !req
557. She's the big mystery.Copy !req
558. No, no. A bet is a bet.Copy !req
559. Oh, wow. A quarter.
You can keep it.Copy !req
560. No. You can keep it.Copy !req
561. - You free Thursday?
- Who, me?Copy !req
562. No, him.Copy !req
563. Oh, my God. Yes, you!Copy !req
564. You know The Distracted Globe?Copy !req
565. Yeah, the dance club.Copy !req
566. Meet me there. 10:00 p.m.Copy !req
567. There's something
I wanna show you.Copy !req
568. Uh, bye-bye!Copy !req
569. Did she just ask me out?Copy !req
570. And I was starting
to like her.Copy !req
571. All right.Copy !req
572. I don't do that.Copy !req
573. Z, I can't believe
you told her about Kira.Copy !req
574. What? I told you.Copy !req
575. Hey, what about this?Copy !req
576. No. Have you considered that
Art3mis could be using you?Copy !req
577. Hey, dude, she's giving me a clue.
Maybe I'm the one using her.Copy !req
578. Should I go more Thriller?Copy !req
579. No.Copy !req
580. Punk?Copy !req
581. No.Copy !req
582. Duran Duran.Copy !req
583. No.Copy !req
584. Does it look like
I'm trying too hard?Copy !req
585. Yes! Listen to yourself!Copy !req
586. You have a massive cyber crush
on this girl.Copy !req
587. She's hacking your heart
to get to your head.Copy !req
588. I got it!Copy !req
589. - Buckaroo Banzai?
- Yeah!Copy !req
590. Really? You're gonna wear the
outfit from your favorite movie?Copy !req
591. Don't be that guy.Copy !req
592. I am that guy.Copy !req
593. Z, you gotta be more careful
about who you meet in the OASIS.Copy !req
594. Aech, Art3mis gets me.
She'll get my outfit.Copy !req
595. There's just this connection.
I mean, sometimes, we even...Copy !req
596. - Finish each other's sentences?
- Yeah!Copy !req
597. We have that. Me and you.Copy !req
598. Yeah, I know, but that's because
we're best friends, dude.Copy !req
599. She could be a dude,
too, dude.Copy !req
600. Come on.Copy !req
601. I'm serious!Copy !req
602. She could actually be
a 300-pound dudeCopy !req
603. who lives in his mama's
basement in suburban Detroit.Copy !req
604. And her name is Chuck.Copy !req
605. Think about that.Copy !req
606. Whoa, dude,
is that Parzival?Copy !req
607. - Parzival!
- Oh, my God, Parzival!Copy !req
608. Come here, man.
Hey, can we get a photo?Copy !req
609. - Thank you so much!
- Dude, you're my hero!Copy !req
610. Hey, Parzival.Copy !req
611. Thank you.Copy !req
612. Get out of town!
Buckaroo Banzai?Copy !req
613. - Huh?
- I like it. I like Buckaroo Banzai.Copy !req
614. - Oh, thanks!
- It's great!Copy !req
615. - Yeah! You look...
- Oh.Copy !req
616. You look awesome!Copy !req
617. - Thank you.
- Wow.Copy !req
618. A big one, a small one?Copy !req
619. A big one!Copy !req
620. Get out of here.Copy !req
621. What a freak!
I thought he was kind of cute.Copy !req
622. Have you been here before?Copy !req
623. It's cool, right? I mean...Copy !req
624. So, what's the plan?Copy !req
625. Are you gonna kill their avatars?
Zero them out?Copy !req
626. They're both here
at The Distracted Globe.Copy !req
627. I can't talk.Copy !req
628. The Distracted Globe
was one of the first clubsCopy !req
629. Halliday created in the OASIS.Copy !req
630. That's common knowledge.Copy !req
631. But I double-checkedCopy !req
632. and it turns out he started building it
right after that moment you showed me.Copy !req
633. The date with Kira.Copy !req
634. Right, and she was
a serious dancer.Copy !req
635. Maybe he thought
he'd take her here,Copy !req
636. like on a virtual date.Copy !req
637. As if that ever works.Copy !req
638. So Halliday built it for her?Copy !req
639. But they never made it
past the first date.Copy !req
640. So Halliday's the creator...Copy !req
641. Who hates his own creation.Copy !req
642. And the club
is the thing he hates.Copy !req
643. And "A hidden key,
a leap not taken"?Copy !req
644. But people jump off it
all night long.Copy !req
645. But none of those people
had the Copper Key,Copy !req
646. so when we jump off,
maybe it's different. Right?Copy !req
647. Right.Copy !req
648. So we take it together?Copy !req
649. Sure.Copy !req
650. We're not clanning up
or anything.Copy !req
651. Of course not. I don't clan.Copy !req
652. Wait...Copy !req
653. Whoa!Copy !req
654. Ow! Whoa.Copy !req
655. I don't think this is it.
No scoreboard, no obstacles.Copy !req
656. - Maybe a dance challenge?
- Huh? Whoa!Copy !req
657. Old-school!Copy !req
658. You come prepared?Copy !req
659. "Prepared"?Copy !req
660. What kind of haptics
you rockin'?Copy !req
661. You got the gloves and full
visor, or a full body?Copy !req
662. Can you feel this?Copy !req
663. Um, yeah.Copy !req
664. I got the X1 haptic bootsuit with
the microfiber crotch inlay.Copy !req
665. My, Parzival,
you did come prepared.Copy !req
666. So, I've been thinking.Copy !req
667. Maybe it'd be cool if we
met up in the real world.Copy !req
668. No, you'd be disappointed.Copy !req
669. No, I wouldn't. I like you.Copy !req
670. You don't even know me.Copy !req
671. This isn't
what I really look like.Copy !req
672. This isn't my real body,
or my real face.Copy !req
673. I don't care.Copy !req
674. I wanna know your real name.Copy !req
675. Stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, haCopy !req
676. - My name's Wade.
- What?Copy !req
677. - I said my name's...
- Stop!Copy !req
678. Well, Buckaroo blows it.
Shocking.Copy !req
679. Are you crazy? You don't
tell anyone who you are.Copy !req
680. You can't use your real name.Copy !req
681. You're not just anyone.Copy !req
682. You don't know me.Copy !req
683. You don't know anything about me.
We've never met.Copy !req
684. I do know you, Arty.Copy !req
685. I'm in love with you.Copy !req
686. - Is this part of the challenge?
- No.Copy !req
687. It's an ambush.Copy !req
688. IOI, always in the way.Copy !req
689. Did you hear what I said?
I said I'm in love with you.Copy !req
690. No, you're not.Copy !req
691. You only know
what I want you to know.Copy !req
692. You only see
what I want you to see.Copy !req
693. That's what
you're in love with.Copy !req
694. Watch out!Copy !req
695. Pull.Copy !req
696. Head back! Z!
Your armor is running low.Copy !req
697. I just bought this.Copy !req
698. Zemeckis Cube.Copy !req
699. Turns everything
back in time 60 seconds.Copy !req
700. And you waited
until now to use it?Copy !req
701. Wow, you were amazing.Copy !req
702. This isn't a game, Z.Copy !req
703. I'm doing this to stop IOI.Copy !req
704. I'm talking about
real-world consequences.Copy !req
705. People suffering.Copy !req
706. - Actual life-and-death stuff.
- I know. I know...Copy !req
707. No, you don't know! My dad
died in a loyalty center.Copy !req
708. - He borrowed gear.
- He built up debt.Copy !req
709. He moved in with the promise of
working it off, but he never did.Copy !req
710. IOI just raised
his living expenses,Copy !req
711. then he got sick, and he
couldn't afford to get out.Copy !req
712. And then he died!Copy !req
713. I'm so sorry, I didn't...Copy !req
714. No, you don't live
in the real world, Z.Copy !req
715. From what you've told me,
I don't think you ever have.Copy !req
716. You live inside this...
This illusion,Copy !req
717. and I can't afford
to let you distract me.Copy !req
718. How the hell
did they get away?Copy !req
719. Do you want the long version?
Your guys suck.Copy !req
720. They failed
to kill his avatar,Copy !req
721. which, if we're offering
constructive criticism,Copy !req
722. was a lame idea and only
would've slowed him down.Copy !req
723. Whereas my plan, which was cool
because I rock, actually worked.Copy !req
724. He's still on the board.Copy !req
725. I know that, Nolan.
But he won't be for long.Copy !req
726. I did a search
for all the WadesCopy !req
727. who had recently bought
an X1 bootsuit,Copy !req
728. cross-referenced that with
public records, and voila,Copy !req
729. which is French for...
"And then I found out."Copy !req
730. Ready?Copy !req
731. The real-world identity
of Parzival is Wade Watts.Copy !req
732. Voila.Copy !req
733. Are you loyal, Ms. Zandor?Copy !req
734. You really want me
to answer that?Copy !req
735. Well, when you're at war,Copy !req
736. you need people
who are loyal to a fault.Copy !req
737. People you can count on
to get things done.Copy !req
738. I just get people arrested
for not paying their bills.Copy !req
739. Yeah, 'cause there are some problems
that require a physical solution,Copy !req
740. but there are other times,
particularly at war,Copy !req
741. when you need
a different set of rules.Copy !req
742. - The rules of war.
- Exactly.Copy !req
743. It's too bad my division doesn't
operate inside the OASIS.Copy !req
744. Yeah, but if this war
remains in the OASIS,Copy !req
745. then you can't do anything.Copy !req
746. So, this is one of those conversations
that we're not really having.Copy !req
747. Well, we've had these kind
of conversations before,Copy !req
748. and look where you are now.Copy !req
749. You got a seat on the board,
head of your own division,Copy !req
750. a division that will cease to exist if
the wrong person wins this contest.Copy !req
751. FNale, a game decides
our fate.Copy !req
752. The only question is, how far
are we willing to go to win it?Copy !req
753. Tell me what you need, Nolan.Copy !req
754. Whoa.Copy !req
755. Where am I?Copy !req
756. IOI Plaza. You're a
hologram in the real world.Copy !req
757. That's a really cool rig.Copy !req
758. Thank you. It's a brand-new
Habashaw, OIR 9400.Copy !req
759. It looks like
a giant hamster ball.Copy !req
760. You know, if you came to work
at IOI, you'd get one of these.Copy !req
761. I don't clan up.Copy !req
762. You'd also get your own
penthouse apartment in ColumbusCopy !req
763. with the
highest-speed connection.Copy !req
764. In the OASIS, you'd get unlimited
weapons, magic items, ships.Copy !req
765. You want the ship
from Defender?Copy !req
766. You know, the kind that can
just jump into hyperspace?Copy !req
767. You want
the Millennium Falcon?Copy !req
768. You have that?Copy !req
769. Anything you need
to help you find that egg,Copy !req
770. and then there's the salary.Copy !req
771. Four million a year.Copy !req
772. And if you do happen to find that
Easter egg, there's a bonus.Copy !req
773. Twenty-five million dollars.Copy !req
774. I can see you're using
emotion-suppressing software right now,Copy !req
775. and why wouldn't you? It's
smart, not to show your hand.Copy !req
776. It is a lot of money.
I could really use it.Copy !req
777. But I don't think you and I
would have the same plans.Copy !req
778. Well, I don't know about that.
What, for the OASIS?Copy !req
779. I guess if you're not
a John Hughes fan...Copy !req
780. Of course I am.Copy !req
781. Because the first thing
that I would doCopy !req
782. is convert all the schools
on Ludus to replicasCopy !req
783. from The Breakfast Club
and Ferris Bueller.Copy !req
784. No way. That's a great idea.Copy !req
785. Which school,
Ridgemont or Faber?Copy !req
786. Fast Times at Ridgemont High,
not John Hughes.Copy !req
787. It's a trap. Faber College
from Animal House.Copy !req
788. John Hughes didn't directCopy !req
789. Fast Times at Ridgemont High
or Animal House.Copy !req
790. Ferris Bueller and The Breakfast Club,
they went to Shermer High School,Copy !req
791. which is in Shermer, Illinois.
I know what you think.Copy !req
792. You think
I'm a corporate asshole,Copy !req
793. that I don't appreciate
pop culture, but...Copy !req
794. Man, that's not true. You know,
when I wanna blow off steam...Copy !req
795. Drink Tab, play Robotron,
listen to Duran Duran.Copy !req
796. I crack open a Tab.Copy !req
797. I put on some Duran Duran.
I play Robotron.Copy !req
798. That's why I love the OASIS.Copy !req
799. 'Cause it's just full
of all these things, man,Copy !req
800. that people love. You know?Copy !req
801. I'm a businessman. I get it.Copy !req
802. But I gotta do my job.Copy !req
803. But I didn't ask you here just
to help us find the egg, Parzival.Copy !req
804. I asked you here
for what comes after.Copy !req
805. What would Halliday say?Copy !req
806. James Halliday is dead.Copy !req
807. Yeah. He is.Copy !req
808. All that's left of him is this contest.
And you know what?Copy !req
809. It just seems like he
wouldn't want you winning it.Copy !req
810. A fanboy knows a hater,Copy !req
811. and I know you've got a whole
department of oologists in your ear.Copy !req
812. So, if you wanna know
what I really think...Copy !req
813. I think you're full of shit.Copy !req
814. Here's my offer.Copy !req
815. Your board of directors,
you got them in the other ear?Copy !req
816. Why don't you tell 'em this.Copy !req
817. If they dump you,
I'll consider it.Copy !req
818. I might say something
off the record.Copy !req
819. I had to make the offer.Copy !req
820. The board expected it, but I was
really hoping you'd say no.Copy !req
821. Because if anyone's gonna win
this competition, it's me.Copy !req
822. My avatar gets the eggCopy !req
823. 'cause I'm the only one here with
the balls to run this place.Copy !req
824. Wow, you really
switched gears there.Copy !req
825. From fairly reasonable
to maniacal overlord.Copy !req
826. You should be grateful, Wade.Copy !req
827. You won't be around
to endure my maniacal reign.Copy !req
828. Yeah, that's right.
I know who you are.Copy !req
829. Wade Owen Watts,
born August 12, 2027.Copy !req
830. I also know where you are.
Unit 56K, Columbus stacks.Copy !req
831. You were last seen entering
your trailer three days ago.Copy !req
832. You haven't left since.Copy !req
833. What are you doing?
You can't...Copy !req
834. With all that's going on
in the world,Copy !req
835. do you really think that
anyone's gonna give a damnCopy !req
836. about an explosionCopy !req
837. in some ghetto trash
rat warren in Columbus?Copy !req
838. Sorrento, don't do this.
I'm not even there!Copy !req
839. Not for long.Copy !req
840. Call Alice.Copy !req
841. Dial Alice.Copy !req
842. Pick up! Pick up! Alice!Copy !req
843. This bootsuit's pretty awesome.
Thanks for that.Copy !req
844. Rick! Rick, the place
is gonna blow!Copy !req
845. Rick, is that Wade?Copy !req
846. - Put Alice on!
- Let me talk to him.Copy !req
847. Don't call here anymore,
you got me?Copy !req
848. I don't wanna hear your voice
ever again.Copy !req
849. Contact Aech, Daito,
Sho, and Art3mis.Copy !req
850. IOI came for me
in the real world.Copy !req
851. They gotta be coming after
you, so wherever you are...Copy !req
852. Sorry about the blindfold.Copy !req
853. My guys are a little paranoid.Copy !req
854. Say that again.Copy !req
855. My guys are a little paranoid.Copy !req
856. Art3mis?Copy !req
857. My real name is Samantha,
but yeah, I'm Art3mis.Copy !req
858. Showers are that way,
clean clothes, too.Copy !req
859. Welcome to the rebellion,
Wade.Copy !req
860. That's IOI.
So the stacks are over there?Copy !req
861. We've been living this close
to each other the whole time?Copy !req
862. Next door,Copy !req
863. around the world, it's... it's
all the same in the OASIS.Copy !req
864. For the record,Copy !req
865. um...Copy !req
866. I'm not disappointed.Copy !req
867. You said I... I would be
disappointed when I met you, but...Copy !req
868. I'm not.Copy !req
869. I've lived with it my whole life.
You don't have to pretend.Copy !req
870. You have a birthmark, so what?Copy !req
871. Why would that scare me?Copy !req
872. Z, if I hurt you,
I'm... I'm sorry.Copy !req
873. No, it's...Copy !req
874. Wait, did... did you
just call me "Z"?Copy !req
875. - Oh, my God. Did I?
- I think you did.Copy !req
876. Wade, I'm sorry.Copy !req
877. Yeah, Wade, Z.Copy !req
878. You can call me whatever you want.
And I'll call you Sam.Copy !req
879. No.Copy !req
880. Uh, Samantha?Copy !req
881. Okay. Cool.Copy !req
882. Wow.Copy !req
883. It's so much slower here.Copy !req
884. I mean, the wind,
the people...Copy !req
885. Everything.Copy !req
886. We forget what it's like
to be outside.Copy !req
887. Yeah.Copy !req
888. - Uh...
- Oh, shit!Copy !req
889. - I just figured it out.
- Figured what out?Copy !req
890. The second clue.
I know what it means.Copy !req
891. We've been thinking about it
too literally.Copy !req
892. "The leap not taken,"Copy !req
893. the leap Halliday didn't take,
is with Kira.Copy !req
894. Yeah, but... I mean, he blamed her
for breaking up him and Morrow.Copy !req
895. No. Halliday was madly
in love with her.Copy !req
896. He had a chance with Kira. He had
a chance to kiss her, but...Copy !req
897. He didn't take the leap.Copy !req
898. Right. So that's where
we go next.Copy !req
899. The place where the leap
wasn't taken.Copy !req
900. Where the date was.Copy !req
901. At the movies!Copy !req
902. Hey, Curator.Copy !req
903. We figured out the second clue.
The challenge is here.Copy !req
904. Halliday kept track of every
movie he ever watched,Copy !req
905. the week and the year he watched
it, and how many times.Copy !req
906. Curator, can we see
November 23 to 27, 2025?Copy !req
907. That's the week
he went on the date with Kira.Copy !req
908. Okay, so our options for that
week are The Fly remake.Copy !req
909. Great flick,
terrible date movie.Copy !req
910. Say Anything...
That would make sense.Copy !req
911. We gotta remember the clue. "A
creator who hates his own creation."Copy !req
912. The Shining!Copy !req
913. It's Halliday's
11th favorite horror film,Copy !req
914. and it's based on the best-selling
book by Stephen King,Copy !req
915. who hated the movie!Copy !req
916. Hey! No side chitchat.Copy !req
917. I think we found it.Copy !req
918. Are you absolutely sure
you want to go here?Copy !req
919. Absolutely positive.Copy !req
920. Let's hope
you have the belly for it.Copy !req
921. Look.Copy !req
922. Ticking clock.Copy !req
923. Okay, so I'm estimating aboutCopy !req
924. five minutes to find the key.Copy !req
925. Yeah, there are so many keys
in The Shining, though.Copy !req
926. Where do we start?Copy !req
927. I've never seen The Shining.
Is it really scary?Copy !req
928. Uh, I had to watch it
through my fingers.Copy !req
929. Okay, so we got the key
from room 237,Copy !req
930. the keys to the Snowcat,Copy !req
931. or the keys they give Jack
at the beginning of the movie.Copy !req
932. Well,
if it's "the leap not taken,"Copy !req
933. maybe the key
isn't a key at all.Copy !req
934. I know
where the Snowcat keys are!Copy !req
935. I say we split up.Copy !req
936. We get all the keysCopy !req
937. and then we meet back
at the Torrances' apartment.Copy !req
938. Hello, Danny.Copy !req
939. Come play with us.Copy !req
940. Little girls, y'all know
how to get out of here?Copy !req
941. Wait, wait!Copy !req
942. Wait, where's Aech?Copy !req
943. Wait!Copy !req
944. Aech!Copy !req
945. No, no, no, no!Copy !req
946. Ahh!Copy !req
947. Ahh!Copy !req
948. Oh, uh, hi, naked lady.
I'm sorry.Copy !req
949. I didn't mean to interrupt,
uh, your bath time.Copy !req
950. Uh, I know self-care
can be important.Copy !req
951. Uh, but can you do me a favor and
tell me, where are all the exits?Copy !req
952. Huh. Whoa.Copy !req
953. Okay, am I being punked?Copy !req
954. 'Cause you're likin' me
a little way too much.Copy !req
955. All right, you know what?
I'ma go with it.Copy !req
956. Ahh!Copy !req
957. Time's running out.Copy !req
958. Yo, Z, is Art3mis
pissed at me?Copy !req
959. Dude, I'm pissed at you. You've
never seen The Shining, have you?Copy !req
960. You know I hate scary movies!Copy !req
961. We got the key.Copy !req
962. Sweet! To room 237!Copy !req
963. We ain't got no business
goin' to room 237!Copy !req
964. We should stay out!Copy !req
965. Plus, there was this crazy,
naked zombie lady in there.Copy !req
966. There are no zombies
in The Shining.Copy !req
967. Well, maybe it's not supposed
to be like the movie.Copy !req
968. Kira is the key.
You're the one who said it.Copy !req
969. Hey, y'all.
I saw a picture of Kira!Copy !req
970. Huh?Copy !req
971. Where?Copy !req
972. It's Kira.
"Escape your past."Copy !req
973. "The leap not taken."Copy !req
974. Halliday's greatest fear
wasn't The ShiningCopy !req
975. or any book or movie.Copy !req
976. His biggest fear
was kissing a girl.Copy !req
977. That's the leap
he couldn't take.Copy !req
978. The ballroom.Copy !req
979. Aech, come on.Copy !req
980. Zombies. Told you.Copy !req
981. That's her.Copy !req
982. That's Kira.Copy !req
983. None of this
is in The Shining.Copy !req
984. Z, look. That's the zombie-circle
level in Mayhem Mansion,Copy !req
985. one of Halliday's first games.Copy !req
986. The whole Shining trivia
is just a diversion.Copy !req
987. One minute left.Copy !req
988. How do we get to her?Copy !req
989. Take the leap.Copy !req
990. Wait!Copy !req
991. Whoa!Copy !req
992. Okay, Mr. Dead Guy.
Cool if I lead?Copy !req
993. Care to dance?Copy !req
994. Do you know how long I've
been waiting for you to ask?Copy !req
995. Well, well, well.Copy !req
996. So you found my Jade Key.Copy !req
997. Imagine that.Copy !req
998. Thank you.Copy !req
999. - Kira was a very beautiful...
- Go on.Copy !req
1000. One of our oologists saw them
enter the media library.Copy !req
1001. She cracked the clue.Copy !req
1002. Now, we just have to win
The Shining challenge.Copy !req
1003. Get her off me!
Get her off me!Copy !req
1004. Mr. Sorrento, I really think
you need to see this.Copy !req
1005. Now Parzival's
got the Jade Key.Copy !req
1006. He's alive.Copy !req
1007. I know. I'll get back to you.Copy !req
1008. I got what you're looking for.Copy !req
1009. Freeze. This guy.
The one with the lame tattoo.Copy !req
1010. Enlarge.Copy !req
1011. Run him through our database,
every IOI drone in Columbus.Copy !req
1012. Find him.Copy !req
1013. Groceries are here.Copy !req
1014. All right. Gluten-O's...Copy !req
1015. "If you know
the answer ultimate,Copy !req
1016. "divide it
by the number magic,Copy !req
1017. "and what you need, want, and desire
will be found in the fortress tragic."Copy !req
1018. "Tragic," that's gotta be
Halliday referring to himself.Copy !req
1019. Why?Copy !req
1020. Because he was lonely.Copy !req
1021. He had no one to spend his
life with towards the end.Copy !req
1022. Yeah, that's true.Copy !req
1023. The contest has gotta be somehow
about connecting with someone.Copy !req
1024. Anyone.Copy !req
1025. He wants the person
who cares for the OASISCopy !req
1026. to be connected
with the world.Copy !req
1027. That's what I think
he's trying to tell us.Copy !req
1028. Wade.Copy !req
1029. You understand Halliday.Copy !req
1030. You know him
better than anyone.Copy !req
1031. It's exactly
why I think you'll win.Copy !req
1032. Really? You really think
I'm gonna win?Copy !req
1033. Do not move!Copy !req
1034. Target identified!Copy !req
1035. Freeze! Don't move!Copy !req
1036. - This leads right to the alley.
- You first.Copy !req
1037. I'm right behind you. Go now!Copy !req
1038. Come on!Copy !req
1039. - Wade, the OASIS needs you.
- What?Copy !req
1040. - I'm gonna delay them.
- Wait!Copy !req
1041. No, no, no, wait! No, no, no!Copy !req
1042. You'll forgive me
for this, I promise.Copy !req
1043. Freeze, freeze, freeze!Copy !req
1044. Don't move!Copy !req
1045. Samantha Evelyn Cook.Copy !req
1046. IOI has purchased and consolidated
all of your outstanding debt,Copy !req
1047. currently in excess
of 23,000 credits.Copy !req
1048. You will be remanded to the
nearest IOI loyalty centerCopy !req
1049. until your debt
is paid in full,Copy !req
1050. including any interest,
processing,Copy !req
1051. or late fees
you incur henceforth.Copy !req
1052. Does anybody have eyes? MAN
2: Check down the next street!Copy !req
1053. - "First to the key."
- "First to the egg."Copy !req
1054. Wait, what?Copy !req
1055. "Never trust someone you meet
in the OASIS."Copy !req
1056. "She might be a 300-pound dude
named Chuck..."Copy !req
1057. "Who lives in his mama's
basement in suburban Detroit."Copy !req
1058. Aech!Copy !req
1059. Helen. My dad called me "H."
It kinda stuck. Let's go!Copy !req
1060. That thing's IDing my van.Copy !req
1061. Come on. They've spotted us.Copy !req
1062. Daito.Copy !req
1063. My real name is Toshiro.
Samantha got us a message.Copy !req
1064. She told us to meet you here.Copy !req
1065. Samantha,
they took her to the...Copy !req
1066. The loyalty center, I know.Copy !req
1067. Look, in other awesome news, the
Sixers found the third challenge.Copy !req
1068. - What?
- Just come on, get in!Copy !req
1069. All right. Let's go.Copy !req
1070. Hurry up.
Go, go, go. All right.Copy !req
1071. How did IOI find
the third challenge so fast?Copy !req
1072. IOI cracked the first
three lines of the clue,Copy !req
1073. so they knew it was sector 14Copy !req
1074. but they couldn't figure out
"the fortress tragic."Copy !req
1075. So they sent every guide
they had into that sectorCopy !req
1076. until they found
the right fortress.Copy !req
1077. Sho?Copy !req
1078. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm 11, so what?Copy !req
1079. His real name is Xo.Copy !req
1080. But everyone else calls
me Sho, no big deal.Copy !req
1081. No. It is a big deal.Copy !req
1082. Sho, you're the world's most
badass 11-year-old ever.Copy !req
1083. He knows.Copy !req
1084. Shut up! Let him tell me.Copy !req
1085. Aech!Copy !req
1086. We have to go save Samantha.Copy !req
1087. Well, we can't just
go through the doors of IOI.Copy !req
1088. Look, I've been thinkin' about it.
I got a better plan.Copy !req
1089. You saw Sorrento's rig, right?Copy !req
1090. Yeah.Copy !req
1091. Let's go after the man himself and
make him give Art3mis back to us.Copy !req
1092. But first,
I have to know exactly,Copy !req
1093. how much about Sorrento's rig
do you remember?Copy !req
1094. Kind of everything.Copy !req
1095. Maintenance,
report to loyalty pod 31-B.Copy !req
1096. Security, please report
to section 97 for escort.Copy !req
1097. Hey! Newbie, get to work.Copy !req
1098. Get to work.Copy !req
1099. Work violation.
Work violation.Copy !req
1100. Lay those charges
every six feet.Copy !req
1101. Keep it moving!Copy !req
1102. Hey, you!Copy !req
1103. Those are explosives!Copy !req
1104. IOI will not reimburse
any lost coin if you zero out.Copy !req
1105. Keep it moving!Copy !req
1106. So what is this challenge,
some sort of video game thing?Copy !req
1107. An Atari 2600, sir.Copy !req
1108. And every game ever made for it,
thousands of possibilities.Copy !req
1109. Come up!Copy !req
1110. Halliday,Copy !req
1111. this is how
you plan to resolveCopy !req
1112. the fate of the world's most
important economic resource?Copy !req
1113. - Call me when you're close.
- Yes, sir.Copy !req
1114. Go, go! No! Ahh!Copy !req
1115. One minute into Centipede,
the ice broke.Copy !req
1116. It has to be Joust!Copy !req
1117. Halliday still holds the world record
on the 2600 port of that game.Copy !req
1118. Maybe we just need
to beat his high score.Copy !req
1119. Pitfall! One of the only 2600
games that still hasn't ended.Copy !req
1120. And how about
those Swordquest games?Copy !req
1121. Yes!
The Swordquest games.Copy !req
1122. They were created for a contest
Atari held with real...Copy !req
1123. i-R0k, how are we doin'?Copy !req
1124. To be honest, I think I need
physical therapy because it's not...Copy !req
1125. Is the Orb ready?Copy !req
1126. Um, as you wish.Copy !req
1127. The Orb...Copy !req
1128. Of Osuvox.Copy !req
1129. Ah...Copy !req
1130. How does it work?Copy !req
1131. Has it got, like, a remote or
is there a button or something?Copy !req
1132. Nolan, it's a level-99
magic artifact,Copy !req
1133. not one of your drones, so it
is activated by a magic spell.Copy !req
1134. Would you care
to do the honors?Copy !req
1135. Where is she?Copy !req
1136. How'd you get in here?Copy !req
1137. - Art3mis.
- Who?Copy !req
1138. Samantha Cook. Where is she?Copy !req
1139. If you wanna talk, we can talk,
but you gotta put that gun down.Copy !req
1140. You killed my mom's sister.Copy !req
1141. You think I won't kill you?Copy !req
1142. Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Just slow down, okay?Copy !req
1143. That was a corporate decision.
It was not personal.Copy !req
1144. Where is she?Copy !req
1145. She's downstairs
in the loyalty center!Copy !req
1146. I know she's in
the goddamn loyalty center.Copy !req
1147. You're gonna tell me
exactly which rig she's inCopy !req
1148. and the access code
to contact her.Copy !req
1149. Yeah, that seems appropriate.Copy !req
1150. Start with access code.Copy !req
1151. 6, 45, 7, 25.Copy !req
1152. Where's the rig?Copy !req
1153. I think he pissed himself.Copy !req
1154. Good job, Z.
We're in his account.Copy !req
1155. So he really doesn't know
he's in the OASIS?Copy !req
1156. This is what Sorrento
should be seeing,Copy !req
1157. but this... This is what we're
making him see.Copy !req
1158. We grabbed him in transit just as
he was logging out of the OASIS,Copy !req
1159. so he thinks he's back in his
office in the real world.Copy !req
1160. But actually, he's here, in the
identical office that Aech built.Copy !req
1161. So, you basically
just remotely hacked his rig.Copy !req
1162. A fixed rig like Sorrento's
is easy to locate, hard to hack.Copy !req
1163. Unless he's stupid enough to
leave his password lying around.Copy !req
1164. Loyalty center, I'm in.Copy !req
1165. All right,
let's get to work.Copy !req
1166. - Arty.
- Z? Z? Z?Copy !req
1167. Arty, don't say anything.Copy !req
1168. I'm tapped directly
into your audio feed.Copy !req
1169. How did you find me?Copy !req
1170. We got his password,
hacked Sorrento's rig.Copy !req
1171. Z, I have something
to tell you.Copy !req
1172. Not now. I have something to show
you that'll get you out of there.Copy !req
1173. The Sixers found the third challenge.
It's on Planet Doom.Copy !req
1174. And there's more,
they just put a force fieldCopy !req
1175. around Anorak's Castle.Copy !req
1176. I heard one of the guards
calling it "the Orb of Osuvox,"Copy !req
1177. and the only way to take it
down is from the inside.Copy !req
1178. She's right.
Level-99 artifact,Copy !req
1179. creates a magic-resistant,
impenetrable barrier.Copy !req
1180. No way through it.Copy !req
1181. Okay, listen. That's not
important right now.Copy !req
1182. What's important is that
we get you out of the rig.Copy !req
1183. All right, so I'm looking
at a diagram of your rig.Copy !req
1184. If you reach up with your
left hand at 11 o'clock,Copy !req
1185. there's some... there's a
panel above your head.Copy !req
1186. Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I can feel it.Copy !req
1187. Okay, there should be
two release handles.Copy !req
1188. Nine o'clock and three o'clock.
Can you feel them?Copy !req
1189. - Yeah, I got it.
- Okay, pull it towards you.Copy !req
1190. Okay, inside the panel,
there's a lever.Copy !req
1191. Grab it with your right hand
and slide it to the left.Copy !req
1192. That should release you.Copy !req
1193. It worked. It worked, I'm out.Copy !req
1194. Loyalty pod 41-F,Copy !req
1195. you are on an authorized
break for 10 minutes.Copy !req
1196. Pod 41-F, you are
on 10-minute break.Copy !req
1197. Proceed to break area.Copy !req
1198. Wade, are you still there?Copy !req
1199. Yeah, I'm here. Where are you?Copy !req
1200. Where is Sorrento's office?Copy !req
1201. It's in the IOI war room, two
levels above where you are now.Copy !req
1202. But that's not the way out.Copy !req
1203. What's his password?Copy !req
1204. Wade, answer me.Copy !req
1205. Okay, it's capital
B-0-55-man-69.Copy !req
1206. But, Arty, you need to go.Copy !req
1207. You need to raise an army.Copy !req
1208. An army?Copy !req
1209. Get to Planet Doom,
and wait for my signal.Copy !req
1210. What signal?Copy !req
1211. I'm gonna take down
that shield.Copy !req
1212. Wait, Arty, wait! You gotta
get out of there! Arty!Copy !req
1213. Hey, how much
are they paying you?Copy !req
1214. 'Cause, man, I got a lot of paper.Copy !req
1215. You know, I can make you,
like, a forest.Copy !req
1216. Hey, shut up.Copy !req
1217. Okay.Copy !req
1218. This isn't real,
you're tapping my feed.Copy !req
1219. Uh-oh. Guys.Copy !req
1220. FNale, they've hacked my rig.
They're after the girl.Copy !req
1221. Meet me at loyalty.Copy !req
1222. Pod 41-F, you
have exceeded your break time.Copy !req
1223. Report to security or your coin
count will be reset to zero.Copy !req
1224. So, she just walks out of
here, how does that happen?Copy !req
1225. They're smart. They knew
what they were doing.Copy !req
1226. But we know they're in Columbus. And
now, all five of them are together.Copy !req
1227. Wait. Wait, we know what?
How do we know?Copy !req
1228. We have the make and model of the van.
We'll spot them.Copy !req
1229. "We'll spot them"?Copy !req
1230. That sounds like a great
inscription for our tombstones.Copy !req
1231. Why didn't you tell me
this earlier?Copy !req
1232. It wasn't relevant yet.Copy !req
1233. I need to know where they are.Copy !req
1234. We need to know.
We need to find them!Copy !req
1235. They're kids, Nolan.
Man the hell up!Copy !req
1236. Do your job, and I'll do mine,
unless you wanna take thisCopy !req
1237. and go after them yourself.Copy !req
1238. Find them!Copy !req
1239. The Complete Nancy Drew,
Kegel Exercises for...Copy !req
1240. Bingo. Okay.Copy !req
1241. "Congratulations, you are the
proud owner of the Orb of Osuvox,Copy !req
1242. "a 99th level magic artifact.Copy !req
1243. "Read these instructions before deploying.
To turn orb on, off."Copy !req
1244. Off! Yes, off.Copy !req
1245. "Utter spell
within 10 feet of orb."Copy !req
1246. Citizens of the OASIS,Copy !req
1247. I am Parzival,
first to the key.Copy !req
1248. I'm here talking to all of you now
because our future's being threatenedCopy !req
1249. by people who will stop at
nothing to win this contest.Copy !req
1250. Some of you already know this,Copy !req
1251. and you've lost much more than
just your avatars or your weapons.Copy !req
1252. Some have lost their freedom.
Some have lost their lives.Copy !req
1253. And now, this.Copy !req
1254. A force field
around the third challenge.Copy !req
1255. I only came here to escape the
shitty hand that life dealt me.Copy !req
1256. But I stayed,
like many of you,Copy !req
1257. because I found something
much bigger than just myself.Copy !req
1258. I found a cause.Copy !req
1259. I found my friends.Copy !req
1260. And yes, I know
it's kind of a groaner, but...Copy !req
1261. I found love.Copy !req
1262. And I don't wanna lose thatCopy !req
1263. to this colossal douchebag,
Nolan Sorrento.Copy !req
1264. This guy.
Back to work, people.Copy !req
1265. He thinks that we're all too
distracted to even notice...Copy !req
1266. Nolan Sorrento thinks
that we won't put up a fight.Copy !req
1267. Sir! Sir!Copy !req
1268. This is going out live!Copy !req
1269. The only thing
Halliday let this guy do...Copy !req
1270. - It's absolutely everywhere.
- ... was get him a cup of coffee.Copy !req
1271. And now, we're supposed
to hand him the OASIS?Copy !req
1272. This Parzival...
Oh, man.Copy !req
1273. Come on, come on.
Give me this thing.Copy !req
1274. Yes, sir.Copy !req
1275. Left arm.Copy !req
1276. - Left arm!
- Sir.Copy !req
1277. No, I need the left arm.Copy !req
1278. No, I don't care if...
I want it on.Copy !req
1279. He thinks that we
won't even put up a fight!Copy !req
1280. Well, I say he's wrong.Copy !req
1281. I say, tell that to the gunter
clans in the gold mines of Gygax.Copy !req
1282. Activate the Iron Giant.Copy !req
1283. Ask yourselves, are you willing
to zero out for the OASIS?Copy !req
1284. Are you willing to fight?Copy !req
1285. I am Parzival
of the High Five.Copy !req
1286. In the name of Art3mis,
in the name of Aech,Copy !req
1287. in the name of Daito and Sho,Copy !req
1288. we ask you to join us
on Planet Doom.Copy !req
1289. In the name
of James Halliday himself,Copy !req
1290. help us save the OASIS.Copy !req
1291. No, no, no, no.Copy !req
1292. "No man is a failure
who has friends."Copy !req
1293. Squadron 14, armor
up, you're in the lead.Copy !req
1294. One minute into Swordquest,
the ice broke.Copy !req
1295. Well, all three Swordquests.
What's next?Copy !req
1296. Dark Cavern, Laser Blast.Copy !req
1297. It's Adventure.Copy !req
1298. Released in 1979,
for the 2600,Copy !req
1299. Adventure was created by
Warren Robinett,Copy !req
1300. who was the first video game designer
ever to hide his name. In fact...Copy !req
1301. Try Adventure.Copy !req
1302. Play Adventure.Copy !req
1303. More than a minute,
we're still alive.Copy !req
1304. This must be the right game.Copy !req
1305. How long does it last,
this orb thing?Copy !req
1306. I'd say about ten...Copy !req
1307. Yeah, about 10 million years,
so we should be fine.Copy !req
1308. First to the key!Copy !req
1309. First to the egg!Copy !req
1310. First to the egg!Copy !req
1311. First to the egg!Copy !req
1312. Adventure.Copy !req
1313. What? Come on!Copy !req
1314. Whoa, whoa, whoa!Copy !req
1315. The Sixers are in the final challenge.
It's an Atari 2600.Copy !req
1316. Are you in the Sixer war room?Copy !req
1317. No, no, no.
You gotta get out of there.Copy !req
1318. They're playing Adventure.Copy !req
1319. Adventure, of course!Copy !req
1320. Created by Warren Robinett!Copy !req
1321. He was the first designer to
ever hide an Easter egg in...Copy !req
1322. Dude!Copy !req
1323. We're looking for a USPS
truck, Ohio plates,Copy !req
1324. a drone spitter, 2036 model.Copy !req
1325. Daito! When are you
getting into this fight?Copy !req
1326. I'm out. Inventory's empty.Copy !req
1327. Last clip for me.Copy !req
1328. More weapons!Copy !req
1329. Anti-personnel
ordinance cannon!Copy !req
1330. Anti-personnel
ordinance cannon!Copy !req
1331. Railgun!Copy !req
1332. Railgun!Copy !req
1333. Yo, Z!Copy !req
1334. Yo, Z! Try this little guy.Copy !req
1335. Ow!Copy !req
1336. Get rid of it! Get rid of it!Copy !req
1337. It's fucking Chucky!Copy !req
1338. Move! Move!Copy !req
1339. Go, go, go!Copy !req
1340. Mechagodzilla!Copy !req
1341. Daito, we need you!
Daito, now!Copy !req
1342. Get to the bridge.
Go now, he's distracted.Copy !req
1343. Go, go, go.Copy !req
1344. Z!Copy !req
1345. Arty!Copy !req
1346. Get to the castle! Win the
third key before they do!Copy !req
1347. What is that?Copy !req
1348. He's only got 30 seconds
before changing back!Copy !req
1349. Daito, abort, abort!
You got 10 seconds!Copy !req
1350. First to the egg!Copy !req
1351. Shit, it's her.Copy !req
1352. Arty! Arty!Copy !req
1353. Z! Got to get
to the castle!Copy !req
1354. She never left.
She's still here.Copy !req
1355. The girl's in the war room.Copy !req
1356. No, no, no.Copy !req
1357. Sho! Hang on!Copy !req
1358. No!Copy !req
1359. Arty, we've got this.
You need to log out.Copy !req
1360. If the game is Adventure,
why haven't they won yet?Copy !req
1361. I don't know. Arty, Arty.Copy !req
1362. I'm serious, Sorrento's crazy.
He'll kill you.Copy !req
1363. What are you looking at?Copy !req
1364. There's nothing over there.Copy !req
1365. You're in trouble, aren't you?Copy !req
1366. Samantha, you know I love you.Copy !req
1367. Not the time, Z.Copy !req
1368. I can handle the challenge,Copy !req
1369. but I can't let you get hurt
in the real world.Copy !req
1370. Get out of IOI,
and meet us at River South.Copy !req
1371. Wade, no.Copy !req
1372. You'll forgive me
for this, I promise.Copy !req
1373. Wade, no, no, no.Copy !req
1374. Get it together, Sixer.
Back to respawn.Copy !req
1375. Let's go, move.Copy !req
1376. You're in.Copy !req
1377. Holy hand grenade!
How much did that cost?Copy !req
1378. Less than
it's gonna cost them.Copy !req
1379. What is that?Copy !req
1380. Sir, the gunters
are approaching the challenge.Copy !req
1381. - i-R0k?
- In position, sir.Copy !req
1382. Prepare my rig.Copy !req
1383. The ice is holding.
Still going.Copy !req
1384. Wait.Copy !req
1385. He's trying to win.Copy !req
1386. Yeah! I won.Copy !req
1387. He lost.Copy !req
1388. Not Adventure.Copy !req
1389. Everyone who wins loses.Copy !req
1390. It's not about winning.
It's about playing.Copy !req
1391. Remember
Halliday's announcement.Copy !req
1392. The keys are invisible, and
they're hidden in a dark roomCopy !req
1393. that's at the center
of a maze.Copy !req
1394. Well, there's a secret in Adventure,
and you don't find it by winning.Copy !req
1395. You find it by wandering
around in a dark room.Copy !req
1396. Until you get
to the invisible dot.Copy !req
1397. It's pretty easy
if you know what you're doing.Copy !req
1398. Really?Copy !req
1399. Let me finish it for you.Copy !req
1400. It's your last chance, Wade.Copy !req
1401. Last chance. Give me the key.Copy !req
1402. I give you 50 million
in your account right now.Copy !req
1403. Why the hell
would I ever do that?Copy !req
1404. Dude!
That's the Cataclyst.Copy !req
1405. Now, personally, I don't care.Copy !req
1406. I'd just as soon never set
foot in the OASIS again,Copy !req
1407. let alone have to deal
with any of this absurdity.Copy !req
1408. But I know how important Halliday's
competition is to you, so...Copy !req
1409. I will never let the future of the OASIS
rest in your hands, Nolan Sorrento.Copy !req
1410. Well, that's fine.
Three easy steps. One.Copy !req
1411. Wait, I thought you were bluffing. You
know that kills all of us, right?Copy !req
1412. I've got 10 years' worth
of shit inside of me.Copy !req
1413. Last chance. Two.Copy !req
1414. I'm not goin' out like that.Copy !req
1415. That's a camper move.Copy !req
1416. You don't even know
how to activate an orb.Copy !req
1417. Yeah, I felt those.Copy !req
1418. But this is my world,
Sorrento.Copy !req
1419. Hadouken!Copy !req
1420. - No, no, no!
- Step three.Copy !req
1421. No, no, no!Copy !req
1422. Get me out of this thing.Copy !req
1423. Uh...Copy !req
1424. Guys?Copy !req
1425. Z. He's still alive!Copy !req
1426. Extra life.Copy !req
1427. Thanks, Curator.Copy !req
1428. Hold on.Copy !req
1429. Live feed
in all OASIS channels.Copy !req
1430. Halliday's letting everyone
watch the end of the contest.Copy !req
1431. That's so Halliday.Copy !req
1432. God damn it,
we tried Adventure.Copy !req
1433. No, we tried to win it.Copy !req
1434. But the hidden room isn't
at the end of the game.Copy !req
1435. You've gotta go straight to the
invisible dot at the start.Copy !req
1436. Is that her?Copy !req
1437. Red hair, IOI uniform, doesn't
know what planet she's on?Copy !req
1438. That's her.Copy !req
1439. I'm Toshiro.
You know me as Daito.Copy !req
1440. Oh.Copy !req
1441. Hey, Arty.Copy !req
1442. Yeah, I know. Not what
you were expecting, huh?Copy !req
1443. Yeah, I wasn't expecting
a late '30s-model postal van.Copy !req
1444. Wade?Copy !req
1445. Wait, I thought the Cataclyst went off.
How are you still playing?Copy !req
1446. Extra life, long story.
Sorry I shot you.Copy !req
1447. Sho?Copy !req
1448. What? Do I have to wear
a sign saying,Copy !req
1449. "I am 11 years old, shoot me first"?
No, thanks.Copy !req
1450. - Dude, give me a hug.
- Ninjas don't hug!Copy !req
1451. All right, everybody,
hold on to somethin'.Copy !req
1452. Got you.Copy !req
1453. Come on, Nolan. Pick up.Copy !req
1454. FNale, tell me
something good.Copy !req
1455. I've got a drone on their tail.
I'm close.Copy !req
1456. Send me coordinates.Copy !req
1457. Maybe you should
leave this to me, Nolan.Copy !req
1458. Nolan? Nolan.Copy !req
1459. Out.Copy !req
1460. Give me that.Copy !req
1461. What's goin' on out there?Copy !req
1462. The game is over for them.
What are they watching?Copy !req
1463. The final key!
It's being broadcast.Copy !req
1464. You see,Copy !req
1465. Warren Robinett
was proud of Adventure.Copy !req
1466. He wanted people to know
who was behind it.Copy !req
1467. That's why he created
the first digital Easter eggCopy !req
1468. and to find it,
you didn't even have to win.Copy !req
1469. You just had to blindly play,
searching aroundCopy !req
1470. in rooms for an invisible dot.Copy !req
1471. You took the dot
back to the main screenCopy !req
1472. and that's when you found the first
Easter egg ever put in a video game.Copy !req
1473. The creator's name.Copy !req
1474. What's going on, man?
I can't see shit.Copy !req
1475. Parzival just got
the Crystal Key!Copy !req
1476. Do you want it or not?Copy !req
1477. Aech,
what the hell's going on?Copy !req
1478. Just practicing my Mario Kart.
What do you think?Copy !req
1479. IOI's trying to kill us, man!Copy !req
1480. Everyone watching, if you're
in the Columbus stacks,Copy !req
1481. this is Parzival.Copy !req
1482. My real-world name is Wade Watts,
and we're gonna need your help.Copy !req
1483. Aech, head for the stacks!Copy !req
1484. Okay, hold on!Copy !req
1485. Stick the key in,
how hard is it?Copy !req
1486. Come on.Copy !req
1487. Yeah! Yes!Copy !req
1488. That's it?Copy !req
1489. Yeah, that's it.Copy !req
1490. Now, you just sign these papers,
and the OASIS is yours.Copy !req
1491. You will be
its sole proprietor.Copy !req
1492. That ain't so bad, is it?Copy !req
1493. I'm gonna need a second.Copy !req
1494. This is wrong.Copy !req
1495. This pen, this contract.Copy !req
1496. This is the moment
that Halliday made MorrowCopy !req
1497. sign over his shares
in Gregarious.Copy !req
1498. That was the biggest mistake
of his life.Copy !req
1499. He knew that.Copy !req
1500. This can't be the end.Copy !req
1501. It's a test.Copy !req
1502. I won't make
the same mistake you did.Copy !req
1503. Oh, good.Copy !req
1504. I just needed to be sure.Copy !req
1505. This is where you grew up.Copy !req
1506. Oh, that's just me
a long time ago.Copy !req
1507. I like to have him around
from time to time.Copy !req
1508. Hey, I have
to show you something.Copy !req
1509. This, uh... Come on.Copy !req
1510. This is the button.Copy !req
1511. If you push it, the whole
simulation shuts downCopy !req
1512. and a tapeworm program will erase
all of the backup servers.Copy !req
1513. So you now have the power
to turn the OASIS off forever.Copy !req
1514. Do you understand?Copy !req
1515. Yeah,Copy !req
1516. try not to accidentally eraseCopy !req
1517. the whole of the OASIS
on your first day.Copy !req
1518. The stacks are straight ahead!Copy !req
1519. Well, I expect you have to go.
I know I do.Copy !req
1520. So, now is the time for you
to receive your prizeCopy !req
1521. because you won
all three keys.Copy !req
1522. Once you take this egg,
the game will be over.Copy !req
1523. The egg, the egg...Copy !req
1524. We know what you did here.Copy !req
1525. You turn around and walk out
of here while you still can.Copy !req
1526. I created the OASISCopy !req
1527. because I never felt at home
in the real world.Copy !req
1528. I just didn't know how to
connect with the people there.Copy !req
1529. I was afraid
for all of my life.Copy !req
1530. Right up until the day
I knew my life was ending.Copy !req
1531. Now, that... That was when
I realized that,Copy !req
1532. as terrifying and painful
as reality can be,Copy !req
1533. it's also the only placeCopy !req
1534. that you can get
a decent meal.Copy !req
1535. BecauseCopy !req
1536. realityCopy !req
1537. is real.Copy !req
1538. You understand
what I'm saying?Copy !req
1539. Yes. Yes, I do.Copy !req
1540. He did it.Copy !req
1541. He got the egg.Copy !req
1542. Hooray.Copy !req
1543. - No!
- No! Please!Copy !req
1544. Hold it!Copy !req
1545. Drop the gun! Now!
On the ground!Copy !req
1546. Turn around!
Hands on your head.Copy !req
1547. Walk back towards me.Copy !req
1548. Mr. Halliday.
Something I don't understand.Copy !req
1549. You're not an avatar, are you?Copy !req
1550. No.Copy !req
1551. Is Halliday really dead?Copy !req
1552. Yes.Copy !req
1553. Then what are you?Copy !req
1554. Goodbye, Parzival.Copy !req
1555. Thanks.Copy !req
1556. Thanks for playing my game.Copy !req
1557. Wade?Copy !req
1558. - Ogden Morrow?
- Ogden Morrow?Copy !req
1559. You can call me "Og."Copy !req
1560. Now, there are some people out here
that would very much like to meet you.Copy !req
1561. Wow, this is incredible.Copy !req
1562. It's an honor to meet you,
Og, but I...Copy !req
1563. There's something
I need to do first.Copy !req
1564. I'm not like Halliday.Copy !req
1565. I'm taking the leap.Copy !req
1566. We're looking for Wade Watts.Copy !req
1567. We need you to make a statement
about the clip you sent inCopy !req
1568. of Nolan Sorrento's
confession.Copy !req
1569. Uh, that was me.Copy !req
1570. What? I record everything
in my workshop.Copy !req
1571. Help me out of this.Copy !req
1572. Who are you guys?Copy !req
1573. The people you need right now, lawyers.
From Gregarious Games.Copy !req
1574. They want
your signature, Wade.Copy !req
1575. I'm splitting it with my clan.Copy !req
1576. We're gonna
run things together.Copy !req
1577. That's a good choice.Copy !req
1578. FNale, listen to me
very carefully.Copy !req
1579. Mr. Morrow... I mean, Og,Copy !req
1580. how'd you get here so fast?Copy !req
1581. I flew from the stars
on my magic sleigh.Copy !req
1582. Everyone's been watching.Copy !req
1583. Of course, I've been watching
a little closer than most.Copy !req
1584. You?Copy !req
1585. You're the Curator?Copy !req
1586. Well played, Parzival.Copy !req
1587. Jim told me
nothing about the contest,Copy !req
1588. so there was no rule about me
losing a bet to a smart kid.Copy !req
1589. Not that you needed my help.Copy !req
1590. You figured out that Kira
was the key on your own.Copy !req
1591. Yeah, but...
Kira wasn't the key.Copy !req
1592. It was you, Mr. Morrow.Copy !req
1593. You were the Rosebud.Copy !req
1594. And Halliday's
biggest regret wasCopy !req
1595. losing his only friend.Copy !req
1596. You know,
Jim used to say the OASISCopy !req
1597. was never supposed to be
a one-player game.Copy !req
1598. Now, who do we have here?Copy !req
1599. Oh. Well, look who it is.Copy !req
1600. It's my heroes, the High Five.Copy !req
1601. - You must be Art3mis.
- Samantha.Copy !req
1602. The High Five
took over the OASIS,Copy !req
1603. and the first thing we didCopy !req
1604. was sign Ogden Morrow to
a non-exclusive consultancy.Copy !req
1605. The salary, per his demand,Copy !req
1606. was 25 cents. One quarter.Copy !req
1607. With his guidance,
our second move was to banCopy !req
1608. any loyalty centers
from accessing the OASIS.Copy !req
1609. IOI had no choice.
They shut 'em all down.Copy !req
1610. The third thing we did
wasn't as popular.Copy !req
1611. We closed the OASIS
on Tuesdays and Thursdays.Copy !req
1612. I know, it sounds
like a weird move,Copy !req
1613. but people need to spend
more time in the real world.Copy !req
1614. 'Cause, like Halliday said,Copy !req
1615. reality is the only thing
that's real.Copy !req
