Penguin Highway (2018)

1. June 29th. 25 degrees.

2. I will take notes everyday...

3. I'm very smart for my age.

4. And I spend most of my time studying.

5. That's why I'm positive that I'll grow up

6. to be someone great.

7. Are Onee-san's breasts and my mother's different?

8. Unable to reproduce the shape with bowls.

9. I realize that I'm only in the fourth grade,

10. Onee-San A Study of the Geometry of Breasts

11. but I already know a lot of things,

12. even as much as some adults.

13. Every day, I learn a little bit more about the world

14. and become a better person than I was the day before.

15. Brother, it's time for breakfast.

16. Don't be late.

17. I ran a calculation this morning.

18. In another 3,888 days, I'll be an adult.

19. Aren't you gonna eat?

20. I can't imagine just how great I'll be

21. when that day finally comes.

22. I might even be too amazing for my own good.

23. I'm leaving!

24. See you later!

25. Come on, we're gonna be late.

26. See you later, Mom.

27. I'm sure that there are plenty of girls

28. who will want to marry me.

29. But there's someone I already have in mind.

30. The others, well,

31. they'll just have to move on.

32. I don't mean to upset them,

33. but my mind's made up.

34. Look over there.

35. What are they?

36. I'll bet they're just crows.

37. Nuh-uh!

38. I can't tell from this far.

39. - Let's go see. - Okay!

40. Oh, no, you don't. Wait.

41. - How many are there? - It's not safe.

42. - Okay. - I'm not sure.

43. Hey!

44. Aoyama!

45. - Hey, you guys! - Can you believe it?

46. - Huh? - Yeah,

47. did you see them out there?

48. So there were a bunch of penguins in the field?

49. - What, really? - At least a hundred.

50. The only place I've seen penguins is at the zoo.

51. Penguins live in Antarctica,

52. as well as its neighboring islands.

53. At least, that's what I read in a book.

54. They don't live in the suburbs.

55. So why were there penguins in that field?

56. Were they even real penguins?

57. And where did they come from?

58. I look forward to investigating this incident.

59. Aoyama.

60. So do you have any thoughts on the penguins?

61. I have six different hypotheses

62. on why they appeared in the town so suddenly.

63. The first is that they escaped from a nearby zoo vehicle.

64. The second is that they're abandoned pets.

65. The third is that they're crows

66. that have undergone a mutation and became...

67. Uchida and I have formed an expedition team.

68. Project Amazon

69. Right now, we're identifying the source

70. - of this river. - Ah!

71. We call this research

72. - Project Amazon.

73. You want to see if there are anymore on the way home?

74. Sorry, I can't.

75. I have to go to the dentist.

76. - Does tomorrow work? - Mm-hmm.

77. - What a bunch of babies! - Ah!

78. Who cares?

79. So you saw some dumb birds that can't fly?

80. I've seen tons of penguins at the zoo.

81. They're not that great.

82. But isn't it kind of weird to see them outside?

83. - Hey, no one asked you.

84. Suzuki is the most arrogant kid in our class.

85. His two friends do whatever he commands them

86. - to do without fail.

87. Whoa!

88. I don't really see what the big deal is anyway.

89. Aoyama, do your notes say what's so special about them?

90. We don't think that penguins in general are abnormal.

91. We find it odd that penguins have appeared

92. in the suburbs during the summer.

93. Huh?

94. If you saw them, too,

95. you would probably find it interesting.

96. - Say what?

97. Shove off!

98. Worm!

99. - Uchida! - What's your problem?

100. Aren't you curious?

101. Wha— what do you want?

102. Science nerd.

103. Um, what?

104. - That book? - Hmm?

105. Oh, have you read it, Aoyama?

106. Yeah.

107. I was interested in black holes for a while,

108. but I found the book to be difficult.

109. Same here. It's pretty tough.

110. Ooh, nice notes, well-drawn.

111. Penguins are so cute.

112. Penguins are so stupid.

113. Hamamoto is extremely smart and good at chess.

114. In fact, she might even be smarter than I am.

115. As you can tell, I'm not conceited,

116. and that makes me great.

117. - Isn't it cool? Well?

118. - Give up, just say it!

119. I think you should do that.

120. Yeah, and we have the same one.

121. Mm-hmm.

122. - Good afternoon.

123. I have an appointment.

124. Okay.

125. Suzuki.

126. What do you want?

127. You caught the disease?

128. I can tell just by looking at your face.

129. What disease?

130. So you don't know?

131. They call it Stanislaw Syndrome.

132. It's this terrible disease where they have

133. to pull all your teeth out.

134. Wait, hold on a second, seriously?

135. My mom told me that I was only coming here

136. so that I could get my wisdom teeth pulled out.

137. No parent would actually tell their kid about this.

138. The procedure's much too scary.

139. Slowly but surely they pull out your teeth.

140. That's what happened to me.

141. You deserve to know.

142. What's going to happen to you, well,

143. it's not going to be pretty.

144. Is that so?

145. The only way to stop the disease

146. from spreading is to pull out all your teeth.

147. Otherwise the bacteria spreads.

148. And then your face swells.

149. These mushroom-looking things will start growing

150. from the cracks in your teeth.

151. - And after much pain...

152. - ... you're dead.

153. Suzuki!

154. In order to prevent

155. that from happening,

156. the dentist will put you under

157. and slowly remove all of your teeth.

158. But it's okay.

159. You'll only be in pain for a month.

160. It'll be a breeze.

161. Suzuki, come on in.

162. Do I have the, the Stanislaw thing

163. that everyone's talking about?

164. What?

165. You don't have to pull all my teeth out

166. if I brush properly, right?

167. We're not pulling all of your teeth.

168. You're lying! You're trying to trick me!

169. Stay still.

170. [Onee-San] Excuse me, young man.

171. I'll be you're real proud of yourself.

172. Why did you lie to Suzuki like that?

173. I was just doing it for Uchida.

174. And who's Uchida?

175. I probably shouldn't say much more.

176. It's our problem, so we'll deal with it.

177. Fine then, don't tell me if you want.

178. I can see you're not in the mood for sharing.

179. You're such a twerp.

180. This lady at the dentist has become a friend.

181. Sometimes we play chess after school.

182. - Let's go. - I'll be there shortly.

183. I'm just teaching this young man here a lesson.

184. I'm afraid that I just did something

185. that was a little bit immature.

186. Well, you're still only a child.

187. Suzuki was being mean to Uchida at school today.

188. I was only indirectly involved.

189. So it was inappropriate of me

190. to pull a prank on Suzuki just then,

191. especially when Uchida hadn't even said that

192. that was something that he wanted.

193. I should've talked to Uchida at the very least.

194. That would've been more respectful.

195. You sure have thought it through.

196. Wow, see this?

197. Penguins are adorable, aren't they?

198. They're so mysterious.

199. So did you hear?

200. Penguins appeared in our neighborhood.

201. I heard. How unusual, huh?

202. I love penguins.

203. All right, think anyone will notice?

204. Hey, this one kind of looks like you.

205. He's small but so full of himself.

206. Research Lab

207. But the real question is,

208. how much do we know about these strange voyagers?

209. Is there a...

210. The Adelie penguin,

211. scientific name, Pygoscelis adeliae.

212. trying to find out in the next few days.

213. Huh?

214. This is the path that penguins form

215. when they return from the ocean.

216. Penguin highway.

217. Penguin Highway

218. Hmm.

219. Good name.

220. They all came out of nowhere.

221. I didn't expect one to come running out.

222. Huh?

223. Well, I had loaded the penguins into the truck.

224. Ah!

225. Hey, young man,

226. keep your eyes on the chessboard, would you?

227. I am.

228. I caught you staring at my boobs.

229. Focus.

230. I'm still focused.

231. No, you're not.

232. That's why I'm winning.

233. I am focused.

234. And check.

235. Huh?

236. And to think I had you beat.

237. I swear.

238. They come from the South Pole,

239. but somehow they can survive during the summer.

240. They're unusually durable.

241. It's unlikely that they escaped from somewhere.

242. We would have heard from a pet store or a zoo.

243. The search for answers continues.

244. Hmm.

245. So, what's your conclusion then?

246. There's still not enough information.

247. Well, I believe

248. that they were brought down here by aliens.

249. Why do you think that?

250. They're invading.

251. Penguins are cute, you see.

252. The aliens are counting on that.

253. Once everyone lets their guard down,

254. they'll move in and take over!

255. Oh, I see.

256. That sounds logical.

257. Fine, tease me.

258. You'll be sorry.

259. [Onee-San] I think that's enough for today.

260. You look tired.

261. I'm fine.

262. [Onee-San] So you're tired and you're a liar.

263. - Hi, welcome.

264. Good evening.

265. Looks like it's time to go home.

266. Sorry, I was caught up at the last minute.

267. He wasn't too much trouble, was he?

268. No, we're having a great time.

269. I mean, he's real smart.

270. Hear that, Dad?

271. I'm smart.

272. I don't mind you staying out to play chess,

273. but you've got to take better care of your teeth.

274. Sometimes it slips my mind.

275. I get caught up in my research.

276. I'd never discourage your studies.

277. But say there's a busy person

278. that doesn't brush their teeth

279. and someone else that does regularly.

280. Which one seems more efficient?

281. Well, I guess it would have to be the one

282. who actually does the brushing.

283. Bye, Dad!

284. - I'll be back. - See you soon.

285. I wanna help garden!

286. Okay!

287. Aoyama!

288. Penguin Locations

289. Hmm.

290. None here.

291. Field

292. Or here.

293. Yoshida's House

294. No penguins in here.

295. Central Park

296. - I don't see any penguins yet.

297. A penguin!

298. - Oh, just a cat.

299. Look, they sell boob cakes here.

300. Um, are they really called that?

301. No progress.

302. Let's switch to Project Amazon.

303. Wow, who knew this was behind the school?

304. We've traveled pretty far.

305. This canal might lead to the edge of the world.

306. Ah!

307. Really?

308. Mm-hmm.

309. Does that mean that, you know,

310. the water falls off at the end?

311. I'm not sure it works like that.

312. But it would be cool if it did.

313. Yeah, but the Earth is round.

314. There can't be an actual edge.

315. Right, which means

316. that the actual edge

317. of the world is beyond our atmosphere.

318. Hmm.

319. I wonder if we're near the source of the stream.

320. Hmm.

321. I think that boobs are mysterious.

322. I keep thinking about the boobs

323. on the lady from the dentist.

324. They seem to be different from my mother's.

325. They're basically the same object.

326. But the feeling they give me,

327. I wonder why they affect me so differently.

328. What do you think, Uchida?

329. I'm not really sure what to think.

330. Huh?

331. 22, 23.

332. - 24, 25. - 24, 25.

333. 26, 27, 28.

334. There's too many to count.

335. This is so amazing.

336. This must be a penguin highway.

337. Their rookery should be close by.

338. We lost them.

339. I wonder if they went in there.

340. The penguins' rookery might be deeper beyond this forest.

341. - Let's go. - Aoyama, hold on!

342. I've heard the silver moon appears deep in this forest.

343. Is it true?

344. That's just a rumor.

345. Yeah, but...

346. they say that if you see the silver moon,

347. you'll get sick.

348. There's no evidence to support that.

349. - It's fine, come on.

350. Uh...

351. Well, this is rather strange, right?

352. I've never seen this before.

353. It's actually a little scary, you know.

354. - Hey, you! - Ah!

355. You big liar!

356. You big liar!

357. What did I lie about?

358. That crazy stuff you said at the dentist.

359. You mean, when you began to cry in front of everyone?

360. What did you say, loser?

361. I'm gonna punish you.

362. And I mean both of you.

363. Sorry, but we don't have time right now.

364. Come here!

365. Sorry.

366. Darn it, let's get 'em!

367. Come on!

368. - Hey!

369. - Gotcha!

370. I should've said this first.

371. But I'm sorry about what I said at the dentist office.

372. Are we good?

373. Shut up!

374. That's what you get.

375. That's what you get.

376. Huh?

377. What are you doing there?

378. I'm being a vending machine.

379. Ah, well then, I'll take a cola.

380. Please insert money.

381. Here you go.

382. I can't get this open.

383. Some vending machine you are.

384. Just forget it.

385. I guess I'll be on my way then.

386. Will you help me, please?

387. Hmm.

388. You and that pride of yours.

389. All you had to do was ask me.

390. Aww, that was mean.

391. But it's your fault for lying to Suzuki in the first place.

392. If you were there this whole time,

393. why didn't you help me?

394. I make it a point not to interfere

395. in childish squabbles.

396. So what exactly were you doing then?

397. I was waiting for the bus,

398. but then I got tired and fell asleep.

399. It happens sometimes.

400. Oh, should I pull that out?

401. I'm fine.

402. I'm going to pull it out all on my own.

403. I'll do it nice for ya,

404. - like an experiment. - Really?

405. I like experiments.

406. Okay.

407. Be real still and don't move.

408. Now, young man, I'll give this string a quick pull,

409. and we'll see if your tooth comes out.

410. Okay.

411. Don't move!

412. I'm not doing it on purpose.

413. My body's moving all on its own.

414. Hmm?

415. I know.

416. This'll do the trick.

417. Watch closely, okay?

418. Ready, now!

419. [Aoyama, voiceover] I thought there was no way

420. this would actually get my tooth out.

421. But sure enough...

422. Huh?

423. [Onee-San] Here you go.

424. Uh, what's that?

425. A penguin, right?

426. Hey, here's your tooth.

427. I'm pretty mysterious myself, huh?

428. Try solving this mystery,

429. that is, if you think that you can.

430. Aoyama, wake up.

431. Wake up!

432. - Hey!

433. Let me out, let me out.

434. Oh, you're losing your teeth.

435. Hey, brother, let me out of here, hey!

436. Onee-San took out my baby tooth.

437. Hey, Dad, I have just witnessed an astonishing phenomenon,

438. but I haven't collected any evidence yet.

439. So I can't report it.

440. Can you at least give me a hint then?

441. You know the lady at the dentist, right?

442. She's pretty fascinating and mysterious.

443. I see. You're on to something very interesting.

444. Here, for your research.

445. Could I try coffee instead?

446. Hmm?

447. Sure, if you must.

448. It's bitter.

449. Eck!

450. - Did you hear... - What did you end up

451. - doing after school yesterday? - I went to the mall.

452. What do we have for lunch?

453. Requires more experimentation!

454. Hmm.

455. Huh?

456. Aoyama, catch you later!

457. No time.

458. - I'm extremely busy.

459. Well, I'm not really sure myself,

460. to be perfectly honest.

461. That's quite strange.

462. I'm sorry.

463. I wish I knew more.

464. But you might be able to help.

465. How about it then?

466. Okay, let's get started.

467. [Onee-San] What's all this?

468. Samples for experimentation.

469. [Onee-San] Pretty well thought out, huh?

470. I guess that's why you're a little scientist.

471. Now please toss them.

472. [Onee-San] I'll start with this jar.

473. Here we go!

474. Hmm.

475. - Nothing happened. - Yeah.

476. Again!

477. Frying Pan, Baseball Tin, Glasses Case

478. Now what?

479. We should replicate the conditions from yesterday.

480. I'm tired.

481. What do ya say we just wrap it up for today?

482. We can't. We'll keep experimenting.

483. I don't think we'll see anything.

484. When do you tend to see penguins appear?

485. Any information helps.

486. Well, I'm not sure.

487. I start to feel good,

488. like I can't contain it,

489. and then there's a penguin.

490. I just grab an object then toss and...

491. It didn't materialize.

492. You're not holding anything back about the details, right?

493. Maybe do this on your own.

494. I'm sorry.

495. That was a childish thing for me to say back there.

496. Well, you are a child,

497. so don't sweat it too long.

498. Technically, I'll be an adult

499. - in another 3,888 days. - Are you kidding?

500. You actually calculated?

501. Dad's 3 steps to solving a problem:

502. Break your problem into smaller pieces.

503. View your problem from different angles.

504. Search for similar problems.

505. Why do the penguins head towards the forest?

506. Why does Onee-San create them?

507. Penguin Highway

508. I'm sorry I ran away before

509. and left you behind.

510. It's fine.

511. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to save the map.

512. We'll do better next time.

513. You don't get mad, do you, Aoyama?

514. If you think you're going to get angry,

515. just think about boobs.

516. It'll help you calm down instead.

517. To be honest, I don't

518. think that's a good thing to think about.

519. Well, it's not the only thing I think about.

520. I'd say probably around 30 minutes a day.

521. Hmm.

522. Uchida, you wanted to show me something?

523. Yeah.

524. Penta!

525. Huh?

526. It's a penguin.

527. This is Penta.

528. I found him in the parking garage

529. of my apartment and hid him here.

530. And no one has found him yet?

531. He mostly hides whenever people are around.

532. That's an unusually smart penguin.

533. Oh, I forgot.

534. I was going to tell you that Penta hasn't eaten yet.

535. - Huh?

536. He hasn't eaten anything at all?

537. I tried fish and ham

538. - and cucumbers and rice balls.

539. He won't touch anything I give him, though.

540. Eat up, Penta, just a bite.

541. - Good boy.

542. Hmm.

543. The penguins that Onee-San creates

544. can survive without eating anything.

545. They run on some unknown energy source.

546. E = Penguin Energy

547. We're gonna take you somewhere nice

548. - so just be patient, okay?

549. - Huh?

550. I just love the aquarium.

551. Can't wait to get there.

552. Me either.

553. I just hope we can find some tasty food

554. that Penta can eat.

555. Me too.

556. Aoyama, was, was that...

557. Mm.

558. Penta!

559. Don't worry, you'll be all right.

560. Let's get off at the next station.

561. He was fine just a second ago.

562. Something is happening to him.

563. Here, let's open it.

564. Okay.

565. - Oh Penta!

566. Penta!

567. - Penta! - Uchida!

568. Penta is...

569. Here are my deductions.

570. E = Penguin Energy

571. The penguins the lady create gets their energy

572. The penguins Onee-San creates must be

573. getting energy from somewhere else.

574. From an unknown energy source.

575. I've named this "penguin energy".

576. The penguin was able to live without eating anything,

577. but when we left the city,

578. the penguin lost its mass and disappeared.

579. This seems to match up with what the truck driver said.

580. Penguin energy might come from somewhere in the city.

581. Or I suppose it's possible it could come from you.

582. You seem kind of tired.

583. I haven't been getting much sleep lately.

584. I keep having bad dreams.

585. You have bad dreams?

586. [Onee-San] I read this 'cause it has chess in it,

587. but oddly enough it scared me.

588. There's this creepy monster called the Jabberwocky,

589. and I keep dreaming about it.

590. So there are even things that scare you sometimes?

591. Of course there are,

592. like rats and cockroaches

593. and of course bats!

594. Hmm? What's that?

595. Ah, the breaker tripped.

596. - Yow!

597. Aoyama, you scared?

598. Not really.

599. But I think I might get sleepy.

600. There's a weird phenomenon going on.

601. Yeah.

602. What is...

603. - They're bats. - [Onee-San groans]

604. How did they get in here?

605. I'll get a net.

606. How did you do that?

607. I have no idea.

608. Have you ever made anything other than a penguin before?

609. No.

610. Hmm.

611. That's it!

612. I have got to do another experiment.

613. Okay, so when should I throw?

614. By my estimates, very soon.

615. [Onee-San] Now?

616. Not yet.

617. Now, do it!

618. Right.

619. And go!

620. What?

621. - Whoa! - We did it!

622. But how?

623. I have one hypothesis

624. on how the penguin was able to manifest.

625. It has to do with the light.

626. Light?

627. The first time you manifested a penguin,

628. it was sunny outside.

629. Then when we attempted the experiment,

630. there were clouds in the sky.

631. That's true.

632. It was sunny out when the penguins first appeared

633. in our neighborhood last week.

634. And then when it was dark,

635. you manifested bats instead of penguins.

636. Penguin Manifestation Conditions

637. [Onee-San] Hmm.

638. In summary, when it is sunny outside,

639. you have the potential to manifest penguins.

640. When it is cloudy or dark, you lose that potential,

641. but you are able to create bats and the like.

642. However more verification is required.

643. What're you...

644. [Onee-San] You're right.

645. This is amazing.

646. The weather forecast said it would clear up

647. after the rain.

648. [Onee-San] It came so suddenly.

649. It took some time,

650. but you figured it out.

651. You're like a young Einstein.

652. Well, there's still a lot that we don't know.

653. It's not exactly clear from our experiments

654. what penguin energy is yet.

655. You sure love research, don't you?

656. Well, today, let's celebrate.

657. Why are you standing over there?

658. Right.

659. May I enter?

660. Wait here. I'll just be a little bit.

661. It's ready.

662. Any good?

663. - Yeah. - Well, I'm glad.

664. One thing, you grew up by the sea.

665. Am I correct in making that assumption?

666. I did. Why do you ask?

667. What was it like there?

668. Actually, there were lots of hills

669. that got bigger the closer you got to the water.

670. My house was high up along the hills.

671. So I could see the water right from my own room.

672. When the wind blew through the windows,

673. it'd smell like the ocean.

674. How does the ocean smell?

675. Can you describe it?

676. How does it smell?

677. I take it you've never been to the ocean.

678. Oh, let's make a deal, OK?

679. Solve my mystery, and I promise

680. I will take you to the ocean someday.

681. Are you being serious?

682. [Onee-San] Yes, but don't forget,

683. you have to solve my mystery first, young man.

684. I'll definitely solve your mystery.

685. I'm smart.

686. You've gotten better.

687. Not good enough yet.

688. Hamamoto is extremely good at this.

689. Who's Hamamoto?

690. A smart girl in my class.

691. She's reading about the theory of relativity.

692. Sounds to me like you're falling in love with her.

693. I'm not gonna fall in love with anybody at all.

694. We'll see.

695. Looks to me like you're the sleepy one today.

696. I'm not sleepy.

697. Now you're the one lying as well.

698. When did you end up falling asleep last night?

699. I always go to bed at 9:00 p.m.

700. I see. Then you don't know what the middle of the night is like.

701. Does something happen in the middle of the night?

702. At night, everyone goes to bed, and the whole town gets dark.

703. And then you explore.

704. Are you sure that you're not tired,

705. because you actually manifested too many penguins?

706. Don't know.

707. I enjoy making them a lot.

708. I think that someday I'll fill the entire world

709. with a bunch of penguins.

710. Let's slow down a little.

711. After all, we don't know how any of this actually works.

712. I mean, the penguin energy could come from you.

713. I wonder why her face was made in this shape.

714. Why is it that I feel happy when I watch her like this?

715. How is it that a face that makes me so happy,

716. that DNA put together so perfectly,

717. is right here in front of me?

718. Sleeping, DNA, Happiness, Perfection

719. It was the first time I had such a strange feeling.

720. I didn't quite know what to write.

721. Huh?

722. Huh?

723. Good morning.

724. It would be some time

725. before I saw the lady again after that.

726. The edge of the world, huh?

727. Not literally, anyway.

728. I know that the actual edge of the world would have

729. to be much farther away,

730. like in deep space.

731. Hmm, you know, that might not be the case.

732. The edge of the world could be even closer than you think.

733. At least that's what I surmise.

734. What do you mean closer?

735. The edge of the world might fold in on itself,

736. with the actual edge inside.

737. Huh?

738. For example,

739. do you think you could put the entire world into this pouch?

740. Hmm.

741. I don't know.

742. Try this.

743. And then this.

744. Take a look.

745. The inside has become the outside,

746. and now the world is contained within the pouch.

747. And you could argue

748. that what lies outside the world is now hidden within here.

749. I guess that was a bit tough.

750. Why don't you think on it some?

751. - What? - You did it, Aoyama!

752. Aoyama, wanna play again soon?

753. - She's so smart.

754. - He's so smart. - What is he saying?

755. Chess is stupid.

756. - Aoyama. - Huh?

757. I, um,

758. I'd like to talk to you if that's okay.

759. Huh?

760. Over here!

761. Um, Aoyama?

762. - Hmm? - You sure it's okay

763. that I tag along?

764. It's fine.

765. Why, what's wrong?

766. Aoyama, hurry up!

767. Over here.

768. Uh, Hamamoto,

769. this is the forest that contains the silver moon.

770. That's just a rumor, don't you know?

771. Huh? How do you know?

772. Because I was the one who made it up.

773. Come on, follow me.

774. Aoyama, you're not really going in there?

775. Wait for me!

776. Huh?

777. What's wrong?

778. Almost there!

779. Who knew that all this was hidden behind the forest?

780. Oh.

781. Wow!

782. Hamamoto, what is this?

783. This is the Ocean.

784. At least that's what I call it.

785. Ocean?

786. This object is extremely strange.

787. What's causing it to float?

788. I don't know. That's what I'm researching.

789. Sometimes the Ocean gets bigger,

790. and other times it gets smaller.

791. My observations have made

792. - that pretty clear.

793. Oh, stop, don't move!

794. You shouldn't get too close to the Ocean.

795. These spikes come out when you're close to it.

796. So we don't know how safe this thing is?

797. Aoyama, I was thinking

798. you could help me research the Ocean.

799. Well, I am rather busy with my own research.

800. But I would be interested.

801. I thought you might say that.

802. Summer Break

803. "Ocean" Research

804. Commencing Research

805. Observation Station

806. I'll Win a Nobel Prize

807. Well done, young man!

808. Aoyama.

809. Aoyama!

810. - Hey, Aoyama! - Huh?

811. Summer Festival

812. Yo, Aoyama.

813. Yes, Suzuki.

814. You're not with Hamamoto, today, huh?

815. It doesn't look like she's gotten here yet.

816. Right. The two of you are always hanging out together lately.

817. - What are you guys up to?

818. That's confidential between me and her.

819. So I'm not at liberty to share it with you.

820. If you want to know, then you'll have

821. to go through the proper channels first.

822. You're talking a bunch of nonsense again.

823. I bet you two are lovey-dovey.

824. - Lovey-dovey! - Lovey-dovey!

825. That went well.

826. We are not lovey-dovey.

827. It must be bothering Suzuki.

828. I bet he's bothered because

829. we're spending so much time with Hamamoto lately,

830. with our research and all.

831. But why would that bother Suzuki?

832. I'm not sure I understand.

833. Well, maybe 'cause Suzuki has always kind

834. of liked Hamamoto.

835. That's what I heard.

836. That's weird.

837. But Suzuki is always mean to Hamamoto.

838. That's not logical.

839. Yeah, but it's pretty easy to see.

840. - At least that's what I think.

841. - Good evening. - Ah!

842. Look, a yukata.

843. Is it nice?

844. Uh...

845. Hello?

846. Uh, yeah, I think it looks great.

847. Thank you.

848. - Uh... - Papa.

849. Papa?

850. This must be Aoyama and Uchida.

851. It's nice to finally meet you two.

852. I hear great things.

853. Papa works nearby at the college's local research lab.

854. But when he's really focused on something,

855. all he does is get cavities.

856. Don't go telling stories.

857. Aoyama, Uchida and I are doing some joint research.

858. Oh, I guess that would make us rivals.

859. [Onee-San] Good evening.

860. Huh?

861. It's been a while, young man.

862. So you have an interest in this summer festival, too?

863. Or is it more research?

864. I'm taking a break, for now.

865. But how are you doing?

866. Doing great!

867. Hello there.

868. Are you a relative?

869. - Aoyama, who is that? - Actually, I'm a...

870. She works at the dentist.

871. She's also teaching me how to play chess.

872. That's right.

873. This is Hamamoto.

874. She's a very good chess player.

875. Hmm, she's pretty cute.

876. You're good with the ladies, young man.

877. Aoyama and I have been working on research together.

878. Well, that's why you're slacking on my research.

879. What are the two of you working on?

880. It's top secret.

881. We only intend to go public once we're finished.

882. That's smart.

883. If your research is truly serious,

884. you should never discuss it in public.

885. Aoyama, the bong dance is starting.

886. - Come on, let's go.

887. - But I'm a robot when I dance.

888. Hold this, I'm gonna dance.

889. Everybody's having fun.

890. - Hmm?

891. Here you are.

892. Oh, thank you, sir.

893. It's done.

894. - Oh! - Ah!

895. We'll be able to check the temperature

896. of the Ocean with this.

897. We can track its position with this penlight.

898. So cool.

899. It's like a real experiment.

900. It kind of looks like a penguin.

901. Uh, I was going for more of a rocket ship.

902. Hmm, all right, then why don't we call it The Penguin?

903. Yeah, I like it.

904. Okay, let's do this.

905. That's it. We've made contact.

906. It's shaking now, like it was jello.

907. - Huh? - Uchida, wait!

908. Aoyama, help me!

909. Please help me!

910. Whoa!

911. It's gone.

912. - What was...

913. - Huh?

914. Wait!

915. The Penguin disappeared.

916. It looks like it was pulled inside.

917. Maybe we're dealing with a life form here.

918. Charge!

919. - Huh? - Hmm?

920. - What is that thing? - I think it's floating.

921. - Weird, really.

922. Go!

923. Whoa!

924. Huh?

925. Hey, Aoyama, surrender.

926. No way, never.

927. Give up already.

928. No.

929. Hey, what are you guys doing out here?

930. The three of you nerds always head to the forest,

931. so we followed you this time.

932. Hey, Hamamoto, what is that thing?

933. Humph!

934. That's the silver moon.

935. You're gonna get sick if you get too close to it.

936. - Huh? - Huh?

937. Nice try, I feel fine.

938. I'm not gonna fall for that again.

939. I bet you're planning something.

940. If you don't tell me,

941. well, then I'm gonna tell everybody about this.

942. Fine, go ahead!

943. But if you do, I'll never forgive you!

944. Suzuki, hey, I know why you're upset.

945. But there's no need for this, okay?

946. Uh, what's that?

947. If you like her, you know, Hamamoto,

948. then you should just come out and tell her that.

949. - Uh ...

950. Hey, what are you saying?

951. We're friends, not lovely-dovey.

952. If you like Hamamoto, just tell her

953. in a logical kind of way.

954. What is with you?

955. You don't know how I feel.

956. It's fine.

957. There's nothing wrong.

958. If you like someone, say so.

959. Hey!

960. You're dead!

961. - That's it!

962. Say you give up!

963. - Say it now! - I won't!

964. You are so stubborn!

965. I am stubborn, so?

966. - Huh?

967. I'll send the penguins after you again,

968. so you better be good!

969. Are you all right, young man?

970. That was an immature thing to do just now.

971. You could say thanks.

972. Thank you for saving us.

973. Well, anyway,

974. looks like you've uncovered something strange again.

975. - Huh?

976. Hmm.

977. Something's happening.

978. Aoyama, get back!

979. It's not safe here.

980. Uchida!

981. Okay, this is a problem.

982. You've known about this for a while?

983. I have.

984. No fair, I told you when I found out about the Ocean.

985. I wanted to know where the penguins were coming from,

986. just like you.

987. Sorry, I had to keep all of this a secret

988. between me and her.

989. I promised her I would figure it all out,

990. and I was worried that if other people knew,

991. they would try to capture her and use her for research.

992. What you mean is you didn't trust me, right?

993. No, that's not it at all.

994. Oh, huh?

995. Anyway, we now know

996. that my penguin highway research

997. and our Ocean research are connected.

998. Dad's advice: Check to see if everything

999. is part of one large problem.

1000. I apologize for keeping you both in the dark.

1001. But I do have an idea.

1002. What do you think about having the lady join us?

1003. We can't solve this problem separately.

1004. Our work is interconnected.

1005. I mean, with her helping us,

1006. we might actually have a chance at cracking the mystery

1007. - of the Ocean.

1008. No way! I don't want any adults researching the Ocean with us.

1009. He wasn't quite ready for that.

1010. Listen, this is our research, okay?

1011. Please don't come around here anymore.

1012. - Huh?

1013. Why is Hamamoto so opposed to us working with her?

1014. I should've let you be.

1015. - Uh-oh. - Huh?

1016. [Onee-San] The mysteries are getting stranger.

1017. You should be more careful from now on.

1018. [Onee-San] You should talk.

1019. I'm like you. I act without thinking sometimes.

1020. Oh!

1021. [Onee-San] I had no idea my penguins were related

1022. to what's going on here.

1023. So, young man,

1024. - what was that thing? - Huh?

1025. Not sure. We still don't know exactly what the Ocean is.

1026. Nothing is certain.

1027. There are way too many mysteries right now.

1028. But one thing is clear.

1029. There was a moment where the penguins

1030. and the Ocean reacted to each other.

1031. When they went berserk underneath it?

1032. It's possible the source

1033. of penguin energy is the Ocean.

1034. I suspect that our penguin disappeared,

1035. because we were too far from the Ocean.

1036. You mean Penta?

1037. So then that would mean the penguins came here looking

1038. for the Ocean.

1039. Hmm, uh, then why'd they attack it?

1040. Uh, that doesn't really make any sense.

1041. Hey, there's someone here.

1042. What are you guys doing here?

1043. Oh, sorry.

1044. I got lost while looking for these two here.

1045. If you keep following that path, it'll get you out.

1046. The forest is dangerous.

1047. You shouldn't be out here this late in the day.

1048. [Onee-San] Got it.

1049. Uh, excuse me.

1050. Have you seen anything strange around here

1051. while you were out in the forest?

1052. Um, uh, we didn't see anything.

1053. Let's go now.

1054. I wonder what they were doing here.

1055. They must be here for the Ocean.

1056. At this rate, they'll find out about you, too.

1057. Huh?

1058. And why is that?

1059. Because you're actually involved in all of this.

1060. If they find out that you're able to manifest penguins,

1061. then they're gonna capture you.

1062. That's not going to happen.

1063. Adults wouldn't believe this stuff anyway.

1064. But we just can't be too careful.

1065. Even if something like that were to happen,

1066. I'd just disappear with a great big poof

1067. before they could.

1068. Does that work?

1069. Either way, please don't manifest penguins

1070. unless you have a good reason to.

1071. Brother, dinnertime!

1072. I'm coming!

1073. One problem? Researchers? Probably looking for the Ocean?

1074. Onee-San.

1075. Hurry up, come on down!

1076. Over the past few days,

1077. we've had several eyewitness accounts

1078. of this unusual-looking creature

1079. which has yet to be photographed.

1080. New species? Sudden Mutation?

1081. Is there a new creature out there?

1082. The illustration here is based on information we've received.

1083. According to a specialist in the history of biology...

1084. That's scary.

1085. I'm heading out.

1086. See you later.

1087. - Oh! - What's wrong?

1088. It looks like

1089. a streetlight disappeared this time.

1090. It was a vending machine the other day.

1091. Careful, don't get too close, folks.

1092. - There've been a lot of spooky incidents.

1093. Did you see that thing on the news?

1094. That reminds me.

1095. Apparently, Masuta and her husband both saw it.

1096. How odd.

1097. - That thing's so scary. - Aoyama!

1098. - Let's get going. - Right.

1099. I just hope the kids are healthy.

1100. It's strange.

1101. Something's definitely going on.

1102. Oh, no, do you think they found the Ocean.

1103. There's a chance that Hamamoto made it

1104. to the field already.

1105. Let's try and find a different way to get in.

1106. Before we go, there's something I,

1107. well, I need to tell you something right now.

1108. I kept working on Project Amazon, and

1109. when I followed that canal,

1110. it connected to a river in the field.

1111. So I decided to walk along the river.

1112. But I was surprised to find

1113. that it led me back to the same canal.

1114. Huh?

1115. What I'm saying is,

1116. this river, it has no end.

1117. It just circles around to the same place.

1118. Wait, are you sure about this?

1119. Mm-hmm, I followed it to double check.

1120. Aoyama, this is strange, right?

1121. - Huh?

1122. Hey, there are penguins here, too.

1123. Uchida, hold on!

1124. Ah!

1125. Whoa, it's big.

1126. It's entering a growth period.

1127. This is the largest it's been.

1128. Hamamoto, we need to talk.

1129. About?

1130. The Ocean, it might be too dangerous

1131. for us to handle by ourselves.

1132. What do you mean?

1133. Disappearance of the Penguin

1134. All for the phenomena

1135. that happened last time were just so weird.

1136. It might be too hard for us

1137. to figure everything out ourselves.

1138. The strange disturbances in town are probably also related.

1139. Even now, adults are out there searching for this place.

1140. If they find it, I imagine we'll have to surrender all

1141. of our research on the Ocean.

1142. Although, I can't tell them about the lady.

1143. I can't let the researchers find out about her.

1144. So I think it's important

1145. that we suspend all our research immediately.

1146. - Huh? - Huh?

1147. This way, we won't have to show our information to anybody.

1148. The relationship between the Ocean and the penguins and her,

1149. we'll just forget it all.

1150. - Are you serious?

1151. I'm not going to forget about it.

1152. This is our research.

1153. The only way they'd find out

1154. about the lady is if someone talks.

1155. Admit it, Aoyama, you just want to protect her, don't you?

1156. Stop fighting, come on, you guys.

1157. No, the only reason you like the lady is

1158. because she's older, isn't it?

1159. Okay, but that's not important right now.

1160. My friendship with the lady is separate from our work.

1161. Guys, stop fighting.

1162. Admit it, you like her 'cause she's older.

1163. Yeah, so what's the big deal?

1164. - You know ...

1165. - Ah!

1166. Good evening.

1167. Oh, it's been a while.

1168. Well, then, have an appointment?

1169. No, it's not that.

1170. If you don't mind, I would like

1171. to speak with you about something.

1172. [Onee-San] Is this a tornado?

1173. That's how it looks at first.

1174. I should have mentioned this to you earlier.

1175. But I study weather at the local university.

1176. This is an unknown phenomenon that we recently observed.

1177. Right now, this town is experiencing strange incidents,

1178. and we just can't wrap our heads around it.

1179. Huh.

1180. The other night,

1181. I happened to look at my daughter's notes.

1182. There's an object in the forest,

1183. some discussion about penguins,

1184. and then there's, well, she wrote something about you.

1185. Huh?

1186. - [Onee-San gasps]

1187. I realize that I'm being rather presumptuous here.

1188. But despite my daughter's young age,

1189. she's an excellent researcher.

1190. Her notes, they stuck in my head.

1191. I considered asking her about them directly,

1192. but I don't want her getting involved in all this.

1193. I would be most grateful if I could have your help.

1194. Huh?

1195. Good evening.

1196. - Good evening. - Out researching?

1197. Yes, what about you?

1198. Getting cavities taken care of.

1199. I should really stop eating so many sweets.

1200. You, too, or you'll end up with cavities.

1201. Hmm?

1202. Well, hello there.

1203. - Hello, I was... - Hey.

1204. Tomorrow, let's visit that seaside town.

1205. Hey, young man.

1206. First time going to the sea, right?

1207. Yes.

1208. [Onee-San] It's been so long

1209. since I was home.

1210. What's wrong, young man?

1211. You don't really seem like yourself.

1212. I always feel pretty good.

1213. And how about you?

1214. How have you been feeling lately?

1215. I guess I'm doing fine.

1216. I want to let out some penguins though.

1217. I've been holding back like you asked me to.

1218. Really?

1219. In that case, it leads me to believe

1220. that you might actually be the true source

1221. of the penguin energy.

1222. If the Ocean was the source, then it wouldn't make sense

1223. for the penguins to destroy it.

1224. - Hey, Miss? - Hmm?

1225. There were a bunch of adults

1226. at the entrance to the forest.

1227. At this rate, the Ocean, the penguins

1228. and you will eventually be discovered.

1229. And yet...

1230. You sure do worry a lot.

1231. I haven't solved your mystery yet.

1232. Are you sure that you still want to take me to the seaside town?

1233. Hold on.

1234. That's what's bothering you?

1235. It's okay. I'm the one who said that we should go.

1236. Once we get there,

1237. let's forget about everything and just have some fun.

1238. 'Kay?

1239. It is summer vacation, right?

1240. 'Kay.

1241. Hey, are you feeling all right?

1242. I'm just a bit dizzy.

1243. Hey, Miss, we probably shouldn't go to the sea.

1244. Why's that?

1245. All I need is a little rest.

1246. You shouldn't push yourself.

1247. We should change our plans.

1248. [Onee-San] Hold on, young man.

1249. I felt completely fine this morning.

1250. Sorry.

1251. Don't worry.

1252. You're such a gentleman.

1253. Usually children are more selfish.

1254. I'm definitely not a child.

1255. [Onee-San laughs] Of course you are.

1256. How about we try again tomorrow?

1257. No, it doesn't have to be tomorrow.

1258. Hey, wait, you shouldn't get up.

1259. You gonna be okay?

1260. Huh?

1261. What was that?

1262. Oh!

1263. The Jabberwockies.

1264. Jabberwockies?

1265. I'm all right now.

1266. It's okay.

1267. I brought along rations.

1268. Please, you need to eat something.

1269. Sorry, can't do.

1270. I haven't eaten anything in two or three days.

1271. - Huh? - I'm not hungry.

1272. But it isn't affecting me.

1273. Sometimes I wonder what's wrong.

1274. Huh?

1275. [Onee-San] Summer vacation's gonna end.

1276. It always does,

1277. no matter how much fun you have.

1278. That's the truth.

1279. So what kind of souvenir do you want?

1280. A notebook from a foreign country.

1281. Okay, I'll get you one.

1282. How's your research coming along so far?

1283. It's really hard.

1284. There are lots of tough problems.

1285. I have a hunch that they're all somehow connected.

1286. Although, at least for now,

1287. that's it, no leads.

1288. Sounds like you're getting discouraged.

1289. The small discoveries that you keep making,

1290. the things that you ponder,

1291. write them all down on one single sheet.

1292. Then take that page and just stare at it.

1293. Will that solve it?

1294. Think of different ways you can pair everything you write,

1295. envision them until those notes fly around in your mind.

1296. And if that doesn't help,

1297. try to stop thinking for a while.

1298. Huh?

1299. Be sure that you play well, eat well and sleep well.

1300. If you do that, then all of the thoughts

1301. that seem to be separate will suddenly connect,

1302. a eureka moment.

1303. Don't worry.

1304. Just do what you think is best and eureka.

1305. That's right. You've never seen anything like it.

1306. It's a new species.

1307. A new species!

1308. Amazing, isn't it?

1309. Hey, what's going on?

1310. Suzuki and his friends found some weird creature

1311. in the woods, I guess.

1312. I'll tell you all about it.

1313. I went exploring in that forest,

1314. and this little guy was floating around the river.

1315. Is that what I think it is?

1316. A Jabberwocky.

1317. Not so fast!

1318. You don't get to see it, loser.

1319. This is our find, you got that?

1320. And it's top secret, I'm afraid.

1321. All right, class, did you solve the problem?

1322. If not, then the rest is homework for today.

1323. Also, there's a typhoon warning tonight,

1324. so please head straight home.

1325. I hope that those of you who are sleeping heard that.

1326. Sorry to interrupt.

1327. - Of course. - What's he doing here?

1328. That's weird.

1329. Wonder what that's about.

1330. Suzuki, Kobayashi, Nagasaki.

1331. Would you three please go over to the staff room?

1332. Apparently some scientists would like to speak with you.

1333. Did she say scientists?

1334. How could we refuse that?

1335. Jealous?

1336. I guess we're gonna be famous.

1337. - Hold on, Suzuki!

1338. Your promise to me,

1339. - have you forgotten it? - What?

1340. No, I haven't.

1341. All we're gonna do is tell 'em what we found.

1342. Why didn't they want to talk to her?

1343. What's this about a promise?

1344. Where are they from?

1345. Do you know?

1346. - See you! - Okay, bye!

1347. - See you tomorrow. - Bye!

1348. Suzuki and his friends didn't come back to class.

1349. Watch your fingers.

1350. That scientist!

1351. They went towards the forest.

1352. Let's go!

1353. Huh? You coming?

1354. Go, there's something I need to check on first.

1355. I'll catch up!

1356. Wait! But...

1357. Fine, forget him!

1358. You in there?

1359. It's me, Aoyama!

1360. Please eat this - Aoyama

1361. I knew it.

1362. Here, too!

1363. Down there!

1364. - Papa!

1365. Papa, what's going on here?

1366. What are you doing?

1367. Why are you here?

1368. Go home, right now!

1369. - What?

1370. No, we need to go to the forest right now!

1371. Go home this instant!

1372. Oh, man, I'm telling you.

1373. It was a huge surprise.

1374. It's like the discovery of the century.

1375. What are the three of them doing here?

1376. Yeah.

1377. They shed light on what's been happening with the forest.

1378. So they're here to help with inves— hey!

1379. I won't ever forgive you!

1380. What's your problem?

1381. I will never forgive you!

1382. Cut it out!

1383. - I'll never forgive you! - Enough!

1384. Aoyama?

1385. Oh, thank goodness, you're back.

1386. I told you to come home early tonight, didn't I?

1387. Mom, listen, I'm conducting an experiment on fasting.

1388. Fasting?

1389. For three days.

1390. I'm not going to eat anything, okay?

1391. As your mother, I cannot allow this experiment.

1392. - Ah! - I'll eat three times

1393. - as much when I'm done. - Aoyama!

1394. Hold on!

1395. Research Lab

1396. Q: How Can Onee-San Fast For Three Days and Be Fine?

1397. Do people not have to eat? - > I'll experiment myself.

1398. The penguins are born from Onee-San.

1399. Many things transform into them.

1400. The penguins survive off of Penguin Energy.

1401. Does the Ocean warp spacetime?

1402. When Onee-San is feeling good,

1403. she wants to make penguins.

1404. The Jabberwocky eats the penguins.

1405. Brother, dinner!

1406. I'm not eating.

1407. Oh, he's so stubborn.

1408. Ocean Size Changes Rain... Clear

1409. Hold it, I'm gonna dance.

1410. Get off the phone now.

1411. Use a 1 to 5 scale to describe my hunger level?

1412. Doctor, it's too dangerous.

1413. We should go back.

1414. Just a little further.

1415. What is that thing?

1416. What's wrong?

1417. Mommy is gonna,

1418. - Mommy is gonna die. - Mom?

1419. Where is she?

1420. - Ah!

1421. Huh?

1422. What's going on?

1423. Mm-mm, mm-mm, mm-mm.

1424. - Ah.

1425. You mean that it's going to happen a long time from now.

1426. Is that it?

1427. Yeah, but she will, right?

1428. Well, yeah, but don't worry.

1429. Why not?

1430. All living thing die eventually,

1431. penguins, even humans.

1432. I don't want that.

1433. I don't like thinking about it either.

1434. It's okay, don't cry.

1435. See, I told you so.

1436. You're staying home from school today, okay?

1437. And your experiment has been canceled.

1438. But, Mom...

1439. Sorry, I'll go whip up something yummy for you.

1440. The fast was a failure.

1441. Humans suffer if they try to skip even one day's food.

1442. How did Onee-San go three days without eating?

1443. I came to an unknown planet.

1444. That's my spaceship.

1445. It's a very strange place.

1446. Isn't there anybody here?

1447. That's a blue whale.

1448. And there are penguins, too.

1449. It's huge, way bigger than me.

1450. A penguin!

1451. The lady?

1452. What's she doing here?

1453. [Onee-San] I've always been here.

1454. After all, this is Earth.

1455. That's weird.

1456. I came a long way.

1457. [Onee-San] If you go far enough,

1458. you return to where you started.

1459. Huh, what, Miss?

1460. - Huh?

1461. Huh, huh?

1462. Miss!

1463. Ah!

1464. No, no.

1465. Miss?

1466. [Onee-San] Poor thing, you must feel terrible.

1467. How are you?

1468. I'm just fine. You're the one who is bedridden,

1469. which is rare.

1470. What are you doing here?

1471. Visiting.

1472. The researchers found the Ocean in the forest.

1473. Whatever you do, don't make any penguins.

1474. [Onee-San] Don't worry about me.

1475. Just make sure you eat properly.

1476. I hope that you're eating properly as well.

1477. I tried conducting my own experiment.

1478. Actually I haven't eaten anything for a week.

1479. Huh?

1480. You mustn't do experiments like that one.

1481. It'll make you get sick like me.

1482. It's fine. Don't forget I have the penguin energy.

1483. Yeah, but that energy can't sustain humans.

1484. I'm sorry.

1485. Don't cry, young man.

1486. I'm not crying.

1487. How to achieve Eureka

1488. Good morning.

1489. See you later!

1490. Let's go now!

1491. Bye, Mommy!

1492. I'll see you later.

1493. - So what did you do? - I got all the way

1494. - to the next level.

1495. - My mom took me to the mall

1496. and bought me a new one.

1497. Can you solve this mystery, young man?

1498. Eureka.

1499. Aoyama, I guess you got over your cold, huh?

1500. Hey, what are you writing anyway?

1501. It was super small,

1502. and then you'll never guess what happened.

1503. Hey, something's going on!

1504. Quick, turn the TV on.

1505. - But you need permission.

1506. It's an emergency.

1507. An evacuation order was just issued.

1508. According to news we just received...

1509. That's near the gym.

1510. - The unknown sphere continues to expand.

1511. In a related incident,

1512. - several researchers here... - That looks bad.

1513. - What is it? - Who were investigating

1514. - the site have gone missing. - I'm scared.

1515. The missing research teams belongs

1516. to a local college.

1517. [Principal, over PA] Attention, everyone.

1518. The school will be evacuated due to a nearby disaster.

1519. Please remain in your classroom, stay calm

1520. and await further instruction.

1521. Okay, who turned on the TV?

1522. But it's an emergency.

1523. All right, everyone, back to your seats

1524. and please turn that TV off.

1525. - Thank you.

1526. Ms. Yoshino, what happened?

1527. They're investigating it, don't worry.

1528. This is kind of exciting.

1529. - Oh? - Ms. Yoshino, my dad was there.

1530. Yes, I know you're worried,

1531. but right now, all we can do is wait here.

1532. Please, you have to let me go!

1533. Huh?

1534. You can't leave the school. It's dangerous.

1535. I know it's hard,

1536. but I'm sure he'll be back safe and sound, okay?

1537. Hamamoto!

1538. - Let me go! - Go back to your seat.

1539. Everyone, stay calm.

1540. Everything will be fine.

1541. - Just be patient.

1542. - Is she OK? - I'm kinda scared.

1543. Hamamoto, you okay?

1544. What is it? Let me help.

1545. Didn't you hear the TV?

1546. My father was swallowed up by the Ocean.

1547. I'm sure that he got too focused

1548. on his research and...

1549. The Ocean is dangerous.

1550. I know that.

1551. Is my papa gonna die?

1552. - Uh... - The Penguin ship,

1553. it never came back, did it?

1554. If only I had told my papa

1555. that the Ocean was dangerous,

1556. then none of this would have ever happened.

1557. I know it.

1558. What, what do you think I should do, Aoyama?

1559. I'm not too sure.

1560. What I do know is what I have to do.

1561. Aoyama, back to your seat, please.

1562. I have to save him.

1563. Please help me.

1564. Excuse me! Hamamoto's not feeling well.

1565. I'd like permission to take her to the nurse.

1566. We can't leave through the front.

1567. All right, so then what should we do?

1568. Hamamoto, you have to listen to me.

1569. We're going to need the lady to help us

1570. in order to save your father from the Ocean.

1571. Her penguins are the only thing we know

1572. that has any effect on it.

1573. Yeah, but what happens if they destroy it?

1574. That is a possibility.

1575. But, Hamamoto, I need you to trust me.

1576. It'll be all right.

1577. Aoyama.

1578. I'm coming along with you.

1579. - Uchida. - Hey, you!

1580. Ah!

1581. What do you want now?

1582. If you guys really want to get outta here, we'll help you.

1583. Huh?

1584. So then, will you finally forgive me, Hamamoto?

1585. I don't know if I can.

1586. 'Kay, thanks, we need your help.

1587. Uh, there's a secret way, come on.

1588. Hey, you kids!

1589. Get back inside!

1590. Crap, hurry!

1591. Hamamoto!

1592. - You okay?

1593. - Huh?

1594. No, dang it!

1595. This way.

1596. Hey, what is that?

1597. It's huge!

1598. The Ocean!

1599. Wait, so that's the floating ball

1600. you guys were doing the research on?

1601. Hey, what are you doing?

1602. We're evacuating!

1603. - Huh? - You guys run!

1604. I got this.

1605. Ah!

1606. Hey, come back!

1607. Come on, ah, let go!

1608. Let go!

1609. Come on, stop it, let go!

1610. - Dirty old man! - Please, let go.

1611. Get moving, Aoyama!

1612. It seems you've solved the mystery.

1613. Yeah.

1614. Just like the penguins aren't real penguins,

1615. well, you aren't human.

1616. You, the penguins and the Ocean were all linked.

1617. Some kind of energy was being emitted from the Ocean.

1618. It seems to have been fueling both you and the penguins.

1619. The penguin energy.

1620. Correct.

1621. I realized that the penguin's ability

1622. to destroy the Ocean was an extremely important detail.

1623. This area, right?

1624. - I don't see him.

1625. - [Onee-San] Quick, we need to hide.

1626. - Huh?

1627. So, young man, what is the Ocean then?

1628. The Ocean, it warps both space and time.

1629. That's why I hypothesize

1630. that it should not exist in this world.

1631. And if that's true, and the Ocean isn't a physical object,

1632. if it's a hole...

1633. [Onee-San] A hole?

1634. A rip in the world,

1635. or maybe it's the edge of the world

1636. that's somehow hidden itself in the interior of the world.

1637. [Onee-San] You lost me.

1638. The penguins weren't destroying the Ocean.

1639. They were repairing the world.

1640. So then I create the penguins

1641. in order to plug the hole in the world?

1642. It's just a guess, but it could explain everything.

1643. Great work.

1644. Nothing here, let's go.

1645. Yes, sir.

1646. [Onee-San] It looks like they're gone.

1647. Hold on.

1648. You create the penguins which repair it,

1649. but you also create the Jabberwockies.

1650. Jabberwockies eat the penguins,

1651. which contradicts what your role is in the equation.

1652. Maybe they were created in response

1653. to when I asked you to stop making anymore penguins.

1654. No, young man.

1655. I don't want you to blame yourself.

1656. I would've made the penguins no matter what you told me.

1657. I'm the one who was wasting time.

1658. How can I put it?

1659. I guess I had a lingering attachment to this world.

1660. Thanks for connecting the dots, young man.

1661. Wow, it's gotten pretty big, huh?

1662. I hope the research team is doing okay.

1663. We sent the Penguin ship inside of it,

1664. but it never returned.

1665. [Onee-San] What's that?

1666. It's a probe that we made.

1667. If the world really does have some kind of edge,

1668. it may be floating around, you know,

1669. somewhere in the Ocean.

1670. [Onee-San] Hmm, then I guess we'll just try heading into it.

1671. Aoyama, it's dangerous from here on out.

1672. I think you should wait here.

1673. Control, we're in position right now.

1674. Hey, there's two more!

1675. No, I can't let you go without me.

1676. I'm coming with you, no matter what.

1677. Brave talk for a kid.

1678. Hey, you, you can't be here!

1679. I think that we'll be okay.

1680. After all, we've got penguins on our side.

1681. All right, let's go, everyone.

1682. - Oh, ah! - Whoa, ah!

1683. Miss, you could be the ringmaster of a penguin circus.

1684. That sounds fun.

1685. I really should have tried that out.

1686. The whole world is upside down.

1687. Yeah, crazy, isn't it?

1688. Beautiful!

1689. There are so many of them.

1690. It's like an army.

1691. Up ahead, the Ocean!

1692. We're gonna crash into it!

1693. We're inside the Ocean?

1694. I can't believe that we both made it here alive.

1695. I wonder if Hamamoto's father is here.

1696. Okay, penguins, take us there.

1697. We really have gone beyond the edge of the world.

1698. Yeah.

1699. Look at that.

1700. It's like the Ocean is having fun.

1701. I wonder why I have memories of the seaside town.

1702. I remember my mom and dad, too.

1703. I even have memories of me living up until this point.

1704. Was none of that real?

1705. I don't know.

1706. I'm not sure.

1707. But I have the memories of my time with you.

1708. Those are definitely real.

1709. [Onee-San] That's true.

1710. I wonder if the penguins are waiting

1711. to destroy the Ocean.

1712. I really don't know.

1713. Hey, Aoyama, will I disappear if the Ocean's gone?

1714. If my theory is correct,

1715. the penguins will disappear.

1716. And me?

1717. So that's your answer then, young man.

1718. It's quite possible that I'm wrong.

1719. There is a chance that...

1720. Hey!

1721. Aoyama, what are you two doing here?

1722. We came here to rescue you and the research team.

1723. Huh?

1724. About time they showed.

1725. Is it possible for you to leave a little bit

1726. of the Ocean behind?

1727. Why is that?

1728. If a little bit is left behind,

1729. the penguin energy will remain.

1730. That'll keep you healthy.

1731. I'm not sure it works like that.

1732. But you know, things can't stay as they are.

1733. I know.

1734. Ready, everyone?

1735. Time to go home!

1736. - Huh? - What's happening?

1737. What is happening?

1738. I'm not sure.

1739. Really? So you're telling me that you can't explain this?

1740. Well, I have an idea, at least.

1741. However this research is very important to me.

1742. I'm sorry, but I won't tell anyone its secrets.

1743. [Onee-San] Young man.

1744. Huh?

1745. Let's go.

1746. Wait, stay here!

1747. It's dangerous.

1748. Sorry, we have somewhere to be

1749. and no time to waste.

1750. So long, Doctor, take care.

1751. Want sugar?

1752. No, thanks.

1753. [Onee-San] It's bitter.

1754. I'll be fine.

1755. Young man,

1756. I wasn't able to keep any of the Ocean around.

1757. I know.

1758. [Onee-San] Hey, where do you think I came from anyway?

1759. I don't know.

1760. But someday I'll figure everything out.

1761. [Onee-San laughs] Once you do,

1762. will you tell me?

1763. I will.

1764. [Onee-San] It's bitter, right?

1765. No, it's not.

1766. [Onee-San] You liar.

1767. You know that I'm not human, young man.

1768. I can't believe that.

1769. It's okay.

1770. I was looking forward to watching you grow

1771. into a proper adult.

1772. You've got a bright future ahead of you, just wait.

1773. I know.

1774. I'm going to be a great grown-up.

1775. I'll be even better than I am now.

1776. I'll become an astronaut.

1777. I'll go to space.

1778. And when that day finally comes,

1779. you'll be able to solve my mystery, and then,

1780. then I want you to come and find me, all right?

1781. I will.

1782. I promise.

1783. Sleeping, DNA, Happiness, Perfection

1784. It's almost time to say goodbye.

1785. Huh?

1786. You have to stay here, okay?

1787. Don't cry, young man.

1788. I promise I won't cry.

1789. - It'll be OK. - Think I'm crazy.

1790. Unit one and unit nine, report in.

1791. Please let us know if there have been any injuries.

1792. - Hmm?

1793. Aoyama!

1794. Where, where's the lady?

1795. She left.

1796. She's gone.

1797. Are you crying, Aoyama?

1798. I'm okay. I promised her that I wouldn't cry.

1799. They mysterious sphere that appeared near a town

1800. on the prefecture border yesterday has vanished.

1801. As of this morning, the evacuation order

1802. for the region has been rescinded.

1803. With many returning to their homes

1804. for the first time since the incident.

1805. Good as new.

1806. - How are we gonna get all...

1807. Fortunately,

1808. while the occurrence was nationwide news,

1809. no injuries have been reported.

1810. Even the local college research team that went missing prior

1811. to the event has since been located

1812. and is said to be safe and sound.

1813. The penguins of unknown origin were witnessed

1814. in large quantities by many yesterday.

1815. Some experts believe that their large numbers

1816. and strange migration pattern may have been a signal

1817. of the event to come.

1818. Others, however, believe

1819. that the entire incident may have been a mass hallucination.

1820. There are 3,748 days till I become an adult.

1821. Brother, it's time to eat!

1822. Every day, I learn a little bit more

1823. about the world and become a better person

1824. than I was the day before.

1825. I know that someday I'll be a great man.

1826. There may even be some girls who will want to marry me.

1827. But I've already decided on someone.

1828. So unfortunately I won't be able to marry any of them.

1829. It may seem like a sad thing,

1830. to see the edge of the world,

1831. but even so, I intend to run at it, full-speed ahead,

1832. because I know that the path

1833. to the edge of the world will be a penguin highway.

1834. All I have to do is follow it,

1835. and then I'll be able to see the lady again.

1836. This isn't a hypothesis.

1837. It's a personal belief.

1838. I know it.

1839. The next time we're together,

1840. she and I will ride on the train

1841. and travel to that town by the sea.

1842. And on that day, I'll have so much to tell her,

1843. like all the research I've done,

1844. the adventures that I've been on

1845. and all the people that I've met,

1846. also how much of a grown-up I've become

1847. since the last time I saw her.

1848. Project Penguin Highway

1849. And how much I loved her.

1850. And now much I want to see her again.

1851. Huh?

1852. Huh?

1853. - What, what?

1854. Whoa, what is it?

1855. Hmm?

1856. Huh?

1857. The risen dust dances merrily

1858. A photo album I hadn't opened in a long time

1859. Hello, the world that you were seeing

1860. Mystery solving never ends

1861. Goodbye

1862. Good night

1863. You close your eyes so unguardedly

1864. Yet never invite anyone into your dreams

1865. Hello, I am not a distant memory

1866. Goodbyes, I hate them

1867. Goodbye

1868. Good night

1869. Won't you let me tell you how I'm doing lately

1870. How I'm doing lately
