449. Either way, I think
it's good for business.Copy !req
450. They got clowns on the front
of every newspaper.Copy !req
451. Big man, what's the good word?Copy !req
452. Hey.Copy !req
453. Hey, Arthur,
I heard what happened.Copy !req
454. Sorry, mate.Copy !req
455. Yeah.Copy !req
456. It doesn't seem fair,Copy !req
457. getting fired like that.Copy !req
458. Did you really bring a gunCopy !req
459. to the children's hospital,
Artie?Copy !req
460. What the fuck
would you do that for?Copy !req
461. Is that part of
your new act, Arthur?Copy !req
462. If your dancing
doesn't do the trick,Copy !req
463. you're just gonna
shoot yourself?Copy !req
464. Why don't you
ask Randall about it?Copy !req
465. It was his gun.Copy !req
466. - What?
- I still owe you for that,Copy !req
467. don't I?Copy !req
468. What the fuck
are you talking about?Copy !req
469. Stop talking
out of your ass, Art.Copy !req
470. Oh, no!Copy !req
471. I forgot to punch out.Copy !req
472. And turns to sorrowCopy !req
473. King of all Hear me callCopy !req
474. Hear my name CarnivalCopy !req
475. And as our city
tries to make senseCopy !req
476. of the brutal triple murder
on the subway last week,Copy !req
477. we're joined by Thomas Wayne.Copy !req
478. Happy, look,
Thomas Wayne's on TV.Copy !req
479. Yes, Mother.Copy !req
480. Thanks for
having me on, Chuck.Copy !req
481. They're asking him aboutCopy !req
482. those horrible subway murders.Copy !req
483. Thank you, Thomas.
I knowCopy !req
484. this is a difficult time
for you.Copy !req
485. Why him?Copy !req
486. Looks like he's gained weight.Copy !req
487. Yes, all three worked
for Wayne Investments.Copy !req
488. Good, decent, educated.Copy !req
489. Although I didn't know
any of them personally.Copy !req
490. Like all Wayne employees,Copy !req
491. past and present,
they're family.Copy !req
492. Did you hear that?
I told you, we're family.Copy !req
493. There now seems to beCopy !req
494. a groundswell of anti-rich
sentiment in the city.Copy !req
495. It's almost as if
our less fortunate residentsCopy !req
496. are taking the side
of the killer.Copy !req
497. Yes, and it's a shame.Copy !req
498. It's one of the reasons whyCopy !req
499. I'm considering a run for mayor.Copy !req
500. Gotham's lost its way.Copy !req
501. What about the eyewitness reportCopy !req
502. of the suspect being
a man in a clown mask?Copy !req
503. Well,
it makes total sense to me.Copy !req
504. What kind of coward would do
something that cold-blooded?Copy !req
505. Someone who hides behind a mask.Copy !req
506. Someone who is enviousCopy !req
507. of those more fortunate
than themselves,Copy !req
508. yet they're too scared
to show their own face.Copy !req
509. And until those kind of people
change for the better,Copy !req
510. those of us who have
made something of our livesCopy !req
511. will always look
at those who haven'tCopy !req
512. as nothing but clowns.Copy !req
513. Thomas Wayne, thank you
for coming in this morning.Copy !req
514. It's not funny.Copy !req
515. I heard this song on the radio
the other day,Copy !req
516. and the guy was singing
that his name was Carnival.Copy !req
517. Arthur...Copy !req
518. Which is crazy,Copy !req
519. because that's
my clown name at work.Copy !req
520. And until a little while ago,Copy !req
521. it was like nobody ever saw me.Copy !req
522. Even I didn't know
if I really existed.Copy !req
523. Arthur, I have
some bad news for you.Copy !req
524. You don't listen, do you?Copy !req
525. I don't think
you ever really hear me.Copy !req
526. You just ask
the same questions every week.Copy !req
527. "How's your job? Are you
having any negative thoughts?"Copy !req
528. All I have are
negative thoughts,Copy !req
529. but you don't listen anyway.Copy !req
530. I said, for my whole life,Copy !req
531. I didn't know
if I even really existed.Copy !req
532. But I do.Copy !req
533. And people are
starting to notice.Copy !req
534. They've cut our funding.Copy !req
535. We're closing down
our offices next week.Copy !req
536. The city has cut funding
across the board.Copy !req
537. Social Services is part of that.Copy !req
538. This is the last time
we'll be meeting.Copy !req
539. Okay.Copy !req
540. They don't give a shit
about people like you, Arthur.Copy !req
541. And they really
don't give a shitCopy !req
542. about people like me, either.Copy !req
543. Fuck.Copy !req
544. How am I supposed to
get my medication now?Copy !req
545. Who do I talk to?Copy !req
546. I'm sorry, Arthur.Copy !req
547. I think... I think most women
look at sex like buying a car.Copy !req
548. You know, like, "Can I see
myself in this long-term?"Copy !req
549. "Is it safe?"Copy !req
550. "Is it reliable?"Copy !req
551. "Could it kill me?"Copy !req
552. Most guys, we look at sex
like parking a car.Copy !req
553. We're like, "There's a spot."Copy !req
554. "There's another spot.Copy !req
555. "That would work."Copy !req
556. "Oh, I have to pay?
Never mind."Copy !req
557. "Handicapped?
I hope no one sees this."Copy !req
558. All right, that's my time.
Thank you very much, guys.Copy !req
559. One more time
for Sam Morril, y'all.Copy !req
560. All right, now,
this next comic describesCopy !req
561. himself as
a lifelong Gotham residentCopy !req
562. who from a young age
was always toldCopy !req
563. that his purpose in lifeCopy !req
564. was to bring laughter and joy
into this cold, dark world.Copy !req
565. Um... Okay.Copy !req
566. Please help me welcome
Arthur Fleck, y'all.Copy !req
567. Arthur Fleck.Copy !req
568. Hello, it's good to be here.Copy !req
569. I hated school when I was a kid.Copy !req
570. I hated school as a kid.Copy !req
571. My mother would say,Copy !req
572. "You should enjoy it.Copy !req
573. One day, you'll have to
work for a living."Copy !req
574. "No, I won't, Ma,Copy !req
575. I'm gonna be a comedian."Copy !req
576. Um...Copy !req
577. Here's one.Copy !req
578. You know, I was
just thinking the other day,Copy !req
579. why are the rich people...Copy !req
580. Smile though your heart is achingCopy !req
581. Smile even though it's breakingCopy !req
582. When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get byCopy !req
583. If you smile
Through your fear and sorrowCopy !req
584. Smile and maybe tomorrowCopy !req
585. You'll see the sun
Come shining through for youCopy !req
586. You believe that shit?Copy !req
587. Fuck 'em.Copy !req
588. I think the guy
that did it is a hero.Copy !req
589. Three less pricks
in Gotham City,Copy !req
590. only a million more to go.Copy !req
591. You'll get byCopy !req
592. That's the time you must keep on tryingCopy !req
593. Smile, what's the use of cryingCopy !req
594. You'll find that
Life is still worthwhileCopy !req
595. If you just smileCopy !req
596. And, buddy, as always,Copy !req
597. thanks for the laughs.Copy !req
598. I'm sure we'll see you again.Copy !req
599. You know we'll be here, right?Copy !req
600. I hope.Copy !req
601. Tomorrow night, we have
Diana Hudson, Greg Gordon,Copy !req
602. and animal expert, Hugh Little.Copy !req
603. Thanks for watching.Copy !req
604. Good night, and always remember,Copy !req
605. that's life.Copy !req
606. That's life.Copy !req
607. Momma, time to wake up
and go to bed.Copy !req
608. Hmm? Oh...Copy !req
609. Oh, Happy.Copy !req
610. Happy, I wrote a new letter.Copy !req
611. Come on, dance with me.Copy !req
612. For Thomas Wayne.
It's important.Copy !req
613. You smell like cologne.Copy !req
614. It's 'cause
I just had a big date.Copy !req
615. Oh.Copy !req
616. Just don't forget to mail it.Copy !req
617. The Murray Franklin
Show is taped liveCopy !req
618. before a studio audienceCopy !req
619. in beautiful downtown
Gotham City.Copy !req
620. You're gonna kill me. You're
gonna give me a heart attack!Copy !req
621. Don't give me your...Copy !req
622. No. No.Copy !req
623. I'm not talking to you
until you stop being angry!Copy !req
624. Okay.Copy !req
625. I'm not angry, Mom.Copy !req
626. I'm not angry.Copy !req
627. Please.Copy !req
628. Mom, is this real?Copy !req
629. He's an extraordinary man,
Happy.Copy !req
630. He's a very powerful man.Copy !req
631. We were in love.Copy !req
632. He said it was best that
we not be togetherCopy !req
633. because of appearances.Copy !req
634. And I could never
tell anyone because...Copy !req
635. Well, I signed some papers.Copy !req
636. And besides, you can imagineCopy !req
637. what people would say
about Thomas and me.Copy !req
638. What they'd say about you.Copy !req
639. What would they say, Mom?Copy !req
640. Hmm.Copy !req
641. Hmm.Copy !req
642. Hi.Copy !req
643. What's your name?Copy !req
644. I'm Bruce.Copy !req
645. Bruce.Copy !req
646. I'm Arthur.Copy !req
647. That's better.Copy !req
648. Bruce! Bruce!Copy !req
649. Get away from that man.Copy !req
650. It's okay. I'm a good guy.Copy !req
651. What are you doing?
Who are you?Copy !req
652. I'm here to see Mr. Wayne.Copy !req
653. Well, you shouldn't be
speaking to his son.Copy !req
654. Why did you give him
these flowers?Copy !req
655. No, they're not real.Copy !req
656. It's magic.Copy !req
657. I was just trying to
make him smile.Copy !req
658. Well, it's not funny, is it?Copy !req
659. Do I need to call the police?Copy !req
660. No. Please.Copy !req
661. My mother's name is Penny.
Penny Fleck.Copy !req
662. She used to work here years ago.Copy !req
663. Can you please tell Mr. Wayne
I need to see him?Copy !req
664. You are her son.Copy !req
665. Yeah.Copy !req
666. Did you know her?Copy !req
667. I know about the two of them.Copy !req
668. She told me everything.Copy !req
669. There's nothing to know.Copy !req
670. There is no "them."Copy !req
671. Your mother was delusional.Copy !req
672. She was a sick woman.Copy !req
673. Don't say that.Copy !req
674. Just go.Copy !req
675. Mmm?Copy !req
676. Before you
make a fool of yourself.Copy !req
677. Thomas Wayne is my father.Copy !req
678. He left me.Copy !req
679. Let go! Let go!Copy !req
680. Keep the respirations above 15.Copy !req
681. Slow and steady.
We got some stairs coming up.Copy !req
682. Mom?Copy !req
683. What happened?Copy !req
684. - Who are you?
- I'm her son.Copy !req
685. - What happened?
- You can probably help us out inside.Copy !req
686. We don't know what happened yet.Copy !req
687. - Hop in the back of the ambulance.
- Step.Copy !req
688. One more.
We got one more lift.Copy !req
689. I'm gettingCopy !req
690. a little resistance here,
Michael.Copy !req
691. Lift.Copy !req
692. I'm right here.Copy !req
693. Excuse me, sir.Copy !req
694. Does your mother take
any medications?Copy !req
695. - No.
- Excuse me,Copy !req
696. - I couldn't hear you.
- No.Copy !req
697. Sir, when was the last time
you spoke to her?Copy !req
698. I don't know.Copy !req
699. Mr. Fleck.Copy !req
700. Sorry to bother you.
I'm Detective Garrity.Copy !req
701. This is my partner,
Detective Burke.Copy !req
702. We had a few questions for
you, but you weren't home,Copy !req
703. so we spoke with your mother.Copy !req
704. Oh.Copy !req
705. What did you say to her?Copy !req
706. Did you do this?Copy !req
707. What? No.Copy !req
708. No, no, no. We just
asked her some questions,Copy !req
709. and she got hysterical.Copy !req
710. Hyperventilating,Copy !req
711. collapsed and
hit her head pretty hard.Copy !req
712. Yeah. The doctor said
she had a stroke.Copy !req
713. We're sorry to hear about that.Copy !req
714. But, like I said, I still have
some questions for you.Copy !req
715. They're about
the subway killingsCopy !req
716. that happened last week.Copy !req
717. You've heard about them, right?Copy !req
718. Yeah.Copy !req
719. It's horrible.Copy !req
720. Right.Copy !req
721. So, we spoke with your boss
over at Haha's.Copy !req
722. He said you were fired
for bringing a gunCopy !req
723. into the children's hospital.Copy !req
724. - Is that true, Mr. Fleck?
- It was a prop.Copy !req
725. It's part of my act.Copy !req
726. I'm a party clown.Copy !req
727. All right.
So, why were you fired?Copy !req
728. They said I wasn't funny enough.Copy !req
729. Can you imagine that?Copy !req
730. If you don't mind, I have to
go take care of my mother.Copy !req
731. Your boss also
gave us one of your cards.Copy !req
732. This condition of yours,
the laughing,Copy !req
733. is it real,Copy !req
734. or some sort of clown thing?Copy !req
735. - A clown thing?
- Yeah.Copy !req
736. I mean, is it part of your act?Copy !req
737. What do you think?Copy !req
738. It's exit only.Copy !req
739. She's gonna be okay.Copy !req
740. I'm gonna get a coffee.Copy !req
741. You want one?Copy !req
742. Yeah.Copy !req
743. So, the other night,
I told my youngest son Billy,Copy !req
744. you know, the new one,
the not-so-bright one.Copy !req
745. I told him, "The garbage strikeCopy !req
746. is still going on, Billy."Copy !req
747. And he says, and I'm
not kidding, Billy says,Copy !req
748. "So, where are we gonna get
all our garbage from?"Copy !req
749. And finally,
in a world where everyoneCopy !req
750. thinks they could do my job,Copy !req
751. we got this video tape
from Pogo's Comedy Club,Copy !req
752. right here in Gotham.Copy !req
753. Here's a guy who thinks
if you just keep laughing,Copy !req
754. it'll somehow make you funny.Copy !req
755. Check out this joker.Copy !req
756. Oh, my God.Copy !req
757. I hated school as a kid.Copy !req
758. But my mother would always say,Copy !req
759. "You should enjoy it.Copy !req
760. One day, you'll have to
work for a living."Copy !req
761. "No, I won't, Ma.Copy !req
762. I'm gonna be a comedian."Copy !req
763. You shoulda listened
to your mother.Copy !req
764. Hey, one more.
One more, Bobby.Copy !req
765. All right, let's see one more.
I love this guy.Copy !req
766. It's funny,Copy !req
767. when I was a little boyCopy !req
768. and told people
I was gonna be a comedian,Copy !req
769. everyone laughed at me.Copy !req
770. Well, no one's laughing now.Copy !req
771. You can say that again, pal.Copy !req
772. All right, we got a great show
for you tonight.Copy !req
773. Chuck Conby is here,
actress Joanne Mulligan,Copy !req
774. and new music from
Mel Rubin and the Stiffs.Copy !req
775. As tensions mount
around the metro area,Copy !req
776. Mayor Stokes has pleaded
for cooler heads to prevail.Copy !req
777. City services
have been affected,Copy !req
778. and some businesses have decidedCopy !req
779. to remain closed
amid the unrest.Copy !req
780. Chuck Stevens filed this report.Copy !req
781. The anger and resentmentCopy !req
782. that's been building
in the city for weeksCopy !req
783. seems close to exploding.Copy !req
784. Protesters,
many dressed as clowns,Copy !req
785. took to the streets todayCopy !req
786. in one of
several planned demonstrationsCopy !req
787. taking on the city's elite,Copy !req
788. including a massive rally
outsideCopy !req
789. tomorrow night's
benefit at Wayne Hall.Copy !req
790. What's the point of all this?Copy !req
791. - the rich.
- Thomas Wayne.Copy !req
792. That's what this whole
thing is about.Copy !req
793. the whole system.Copy !req
794. Wayne,
who recently announcedCopy !req
795. he is running for mayor,Copy !req
796. will be attending the benefit.Copy !req
797. You might remember
it was Thomas WayneCopy !req
798. who first referred toCopy !req
799. many of Gotham's residents
as "clowns."Copy !req
800. Today, he offered little in
the way of an apology.Copy !req
801. Well, what I will say is,Copy !req
802. there's something wrong
with those people.Copy !req
803. I am here to help them.Copy !req
804. I'm gonna
lift them out of poverty,Copy !req
805. help make their lives better.Copy !req
806. That is why I'm running.Copy !req
807. And they may not realize it,
but I'm their only hope.Copy !req
808. Down with Wayne!
Down with Wayne!Copy !req
809. Down with Wayne!
Down with Wayne!Copy !req
810. Can I help you, pal?Copy !req
811. I don't know what to say.Copy !req
812. Do you want an autograph
or something?Copy !req
813. No.Copy !req
814. My name is Arthur.Copy !req
815. Penny Fleck is my mother.Copy !req
816. Jesus.Copy !req
817. You're the guy that came to
my house yesterday.Copy !req
818. Yes.Copy !req
819. I'm sorry I just showed up.Copy !req
820. But my mother
told me everything,Copy !req
821. and I had to talk to you.Copy !req
822. Look, pal, I'm not your father.Copy !req
823. What's wrong with you?Copy !req
824. Look at us.Copy !req
825. I think you are.Copy !req
826. Well, that's impossibleCopy !req
827. because you're adopted,Copy !req
828. and I never slept with
your mother.Copy !req
829. - I wasn't adopted.
- What do you want from me?Copy !req
830. - Money?
- No, I don't...Copy !req
831. I wasn't adopted.Copy !req
832. Jesus. She never told you?Copy !req
833. Told me what?Copy !req
834. Your mother adopted you
while she was working for us.Copy !req
835. That's not true.Copy !req
836. Why are you saying that?Copy !req
837. Then she was arrested
and committedCopy !req
838. to Arkham State Hospital,Copy !req
839. when you were just a little boy.Copy !req
840. Why are you saying this?Copy !req
841. I don't need you to
tell me lies.Copy !req
842. I know it seems strange.Copy !req
843. I don't mean to
make you uncomfortable.Copy !req
844. I don't know
why everyone is so rude.Copy !req
845. I don't know why you are.Copy !req
846. I don't want anything from you.Copy !req
847. Maybe a little bit of warmth,
maybe a hug, Dad!Copy !req
848. How about just a little bit
of fucking decency?Copy !req
849. What is it with you people?Copy !req
850. You say that stuff
about my mother.Copy !req
851. She's crazy.Copy !req
852. She's...Copy !req
853. You think this is funny?Copy !req
854. Dad, it's me. Come on.Copy !req
855. Touch my son again,Copy !req
856. I'll fucking kill you.Copy !req
857. Hello, Mr. Fleck.
This is Detective Garrity.Copy !req
858. We met the other night
at Gotham General.Copy !req
859. My partner and I had a few
more questions for you.Copy !req
860. We stopped by your apartment
today, but you weren't home.Copy !req
861. Please give me a call
when you get this message.Copy !req
862. Again, Detective Garrity,Copy !req
863. and my number is 212... 99.Copy !req
864. This message is
for Arthur Fleck.Copy !req
865. My name is Shirley Woods.Copy !req
866. I work on
The Murray Franklin Show.Copy !req
867. I don't know if you're aware,Copy !req
868. but Murray played
a clip of your stand-upCopy !req
869. on the show recently,Copy !req
870. and we have gotten an amazing
response from our viewers.Copy !req
871. Murray asked me to give you
a call and see if you're...Copy !req
872. Who is this?Copy !req
873. Oh, hi, this is Shirley Woods.Copy !req
874. I'm the show Booker from
Live with Murray Franklin.Copy !req
875. Is this Arthur?Copy !req
876. Yes.Copy !req
877. Hi, Arthur.
Well, as I was saying,Copy !req
878. we've gotten a lot of calls
about your clip.Copy !req
879. Amazing responses.Copy !req
880. And Murray asked
if I would reach out to youCopy !req
881. to see if you would
come on as his guest.Copy !req
882. Murray wants me
on The Murray Franklin Show?Copy !req
883. Yeah. Isn't that great?Copy !req
884. He'd love to talk to you,
maybe do some of your act?Copy !req
885. That sound good to you?Copy !req
886. Yeah, that sounds great.Copy !req
887. Can we set up a date right now?Copy !req
888. Are you available next Thursday?Copy !req
889. Hey.Copy !req
890. Man,
I'm sorry about that, my man.Copy !req
891. All records 10 years or older,
they store in the basement,Copy !req
892. and you're talking about
something 30 years ago, so...Copy !req
893. Can I ask you a question?Copy !req
894. Sure.Copy !req
895. How does someone
wind up in here?Copy !req
896. Have they all, all the people
committed crimes?Copy !req
897. Well, yeah, some have.Copy !req
898. You know, some are just crazy.Copy !req
899. Pose dangers to
themselves and others.Copy !req
900. Some just got
nowhere else to go.Copy !req
901. Don't know what to do, you know?Copy !req
902. - Yeah. I hear you, brother.
- Hmm.Copy !req
903. Sometimes,
I don't know what to do.Copy !req
904. Last time, I ended up taking
it out on some people.Copy !req
905. I thought it was gonna bother
me, but it really hasn't.Copy !req
906. What's that?Copy !req
907. I fucked up and
did some bad shit.Copy !req
908. You know what I'm talking about,Copy !req
909. it's so hard to just try and
be happy all the time.Copy !req
910. Hey, listen, man.Copy !req
911. I'm just
an administrative assistant.Copy !req
912. Like a clerk, you know.Copy !req
913. All I do is file paperwork.Copy !req
914. I don't know what to tell you.Copy !req
915. But you should see somebody.Copy !req
916. You know, they got programs,Copy !req
917. city services, stuff like that.Copy !req
918. Oh, yeah.Copy !req
919. They cut all those.Copy !req
920. All right, here it is.
Fleck.Copy !req
921. Penny Fleck. Let's see.Copy !req
922. Diagnosed by
Dr. Benjamin Stoner.Copy !req
923. Oh. "The patient suffers
from delusional psychosisCopy !req
924. and narcissistic
personality disorder." Mmm.Copy !req
925. "Was found guilty of endangeringCopy !req
926. the welfare
of her own child."Copy !req
927. What?Copy !req
928. You said she's your mother.Copy !req
929. Uh...Copy !req
930. I'm sorry, man. Like I said,
I can't release these records,Copy !req
931. you know, without proper forms.Copy !req
932. I could get in trouble.Copy !req
933. Look, if you want to bring
your mom in here to sign,Copy !req
934. that'll be much easier,Copy !req
935. but I can't let this go
without her signature, okay?Copy !req
936. I'm sorry.Copy !req
937. No, man! Shit!Copy !req
938. Come on, man. Give it...Copy !req
939. Hey! Hey!Copy !req
940. We went over this,
Penny. You adopted him.Copy !req
941. We have all the paperwork
right here.Copy !req
942. That's not true.Copy !req
943. Thomas had that all made up,Copy !req
944. so it stayed our secret.Copy !req
945. You also stood byCopy !req
946. while one of your boyfriendsCopy !req
947. repeatedly abused
your adopted sonCopy !req
948. and battered you.Copy !req
949. Penny,Copy !req
950. your son was found tied
to a radiatorCopy !req
951. in your filthy apartment.Copy !req
952. Malnourished with multiple
bruises across his bodyCopy !req
953. and severe trauma to his head.Copy !req
954. I never heard him cry.Copy !req
955. He's always been
such a happy little boy.Copy !req
956. It's time for bed.Copy !req
957. Oh, my God!Copy !req
958. What are you doing in here?Copy !req
959. You're in the wrong apartment.Copy !req
960. Your name's Arthur, right?Copy !req
961. You live down the hall.Copy !req
962. I really need you to leave.Copy !req
963. My little girl is sleeping
in the other room.Copy !req
964. Please.Copy !req
965. I had a bad day.Copy !req
966. Can I call someone?
Is your mother home?Copy !req
967. Shut up!Copy !req
968. Hey, Penny.Copy !req
969. Penny Fleck.Copy !req
970. I always hated that name.Copy !req
971. You know how you used to tell meCopy !req
972. that my laugh was a condition?Copy !req
973. That there was
something wrong with me?Copy !req
974. There isn't.Copy !req
975. That's the real me.Copy !req
976. Happy.Copy !req
977. Happy. Hmm.Copy !req
978. I haven't been happyCopy !req
979. one minute of
my entire fucking life.Copy !req
980. You know what's funny?Copy !req
981. You know
what really makes me laugh?Copy !req
982. I used to think
that my life was a tragedy...Copy !req
983. But now I realizeCopy !req
984. it's a fucking comedy.Copy !req
985. A very fine actor.Copy !req
986. He's got a new movie
called American PlayboyCopy !req
987. opening this week
across the country.Copy !req
988. Will you please welcome
a good friendCopy !req
989. of the show, Mr. Ethan Chase.Copy !req
990. Good to see you, Ethan.
You're looking great, Ethan.Copy !req
991. Thank you very much.
You're looking good yourself.Copy !req
992. Ah, can't complain.Copy !req
993. Hey, Murray.
Thanks so much for having...Copy !req
994. Hey, Murray.Copy !req
995. Thank you so much for
having me on the show.Copy !req
996. It's been
a lifelong dream of mine.Copy !req
997. I'm nervous right now.Copy !req
998. - You are?
- I am nervous.Copy !req
999. Hey, Murray. I've been on...Copy !req
1000. I'm sorry. What's that?Copy !req
1001. Oh, that's very funny, Murray.Copy !req
1002. You know, I'm also a comedian.Copy !req
1003. Would you like to hear a joke?Copy !req
1004. Yeah? All of you?Copy !req
1005. Okay.Copy !req
1006. Knock...Copy !req
1007. Knock, knock.Copy !req
1008. Knock, knock.Copy !req
1009. That's lifeCopy !req
1010. That's lifeCopy !req
1011. That's what all the people sayCopy !req
1012. You're riding high in AprilCopy !req
1013. Shot down in MayCopy !req
1014. But I know I'm gonna change that tuneCopy !req
1015. When I'm back on top
Back on top in JuneCopy !req
1016. I said, that's lifeCopy !req
1017. That's lifeCopy !req
1018. And as funny as it may seemCopy !req
1019. Some people get their kicksCopy !req
1020. Stompin' on a dreamCopy !req
1021. But I don't let it,
let it get me downCopy !req
1022. 'Cause this fine old worldCopy !req
1023. It keeps spinnin' aroundCopy !req
1024. I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirateCopy !req
1025. A poet, a pawn and a kingCopy !req
1026. I've been up and down and over and outCopy !req
1027. And I know one thingCopy !req
1028. Each time I find myself flat on my faceCopy !req
1029. I pick myself up
And get back in the raceCopy !req
1030. That's lifeCopy !req
1031. That's lifeCopy !req
1032. I tell ya, I can't deny itCopy !req
1033. I thought of quitting, babyCopy !req
1034. But my heart just ain't gonna buy itCopy !req
1035. And if I didn't think
It was worth one single tryCopy !req
1036. Coming.Copy !req
1037. I'd jump right on a big bird
And then I'd fly...Copy !req
1038. Hey, Arthur.Copy !req
1039. How's it going?Copy !req
1040. Oh, hey, guys.Copy !req
1041. Come on in.Copy !req
1042. Did you get a new gig?Copy !req
1043. No.Copy !req
1044. Oh, you must be going down to
that rally at City Hall.Copy !req
1045. I hear it's gonna be nuts.Copy !req
1046. Oh, is that today?Copy !req
1047. Yeah.Copy !req
1048. What's with the makeup then?Copy !req
1049. My mom died.Copy !req
1050. I'm celebrating.Copy !req
1051. Right. We heard.Copy !req
1052. That's why we came by.Copy !req
1053. We figured, you know, you
could use some cheering up.Copy !req
1054. Aw, that's sweet.Copy !req
1055. But, no, I feel good.Copy !req
1056. Yeah, I stopped
taking my medication.Copy !req
1057. I feel a lot better now.Copy !req
1058. Oh, okay. Good for you.Copy !req
1059. So, hey, listen,
I don't know if you heard,Copy !req
1060. but the cops have been coming
around the shop,Copy !req
1061. talking to all the guys
about those subway murders.Copy !req
1062. - And, um...
- They didn't talk to me.Copy !req
1063. That's because the suspect
was a regular-sized person.Copy !req
1064. If it was a fucking midget,
you'd be in jail right now.Copy !req
1065. Anyway, um,Copy !req
1066. Hoyt said
that they talked to you,Copy !req
1067. and now they're looking for me,Copy !req
1068. and I just wanna know
what you said.Copy !req
1069. Make sure our stories line up.Copy !req
1070. - Seeing as how you're my boy.
- Yeah, that's important.Copy !req
1071. - That makes a lot of sense.
- You know what I mean?Copy !req
1072. Thank you, Randall.
Thank you so much.Copy !req
1073. Arthur!Copy !req
1074. No!Copy !req
1075. What?Copy !req
1076. No!Copy !req
1077. Why would you do that, Arthur?Copy !req
1078. Do you watch
The Murray Franklin Show?Copy !req
1079. Yeah.Copy !req
1080. I'm gonna be on tonight.Copy !req
1081. It fucking crazy, innit?Copy !req
1082. Me on the telly.Copy !req
1083. What the fuck, Arthur?Copy !req
1084. What?Copy !req
1085. It's okay, Gary.Copy !req
1086. You can go.Copy !req
1087. I'm not gonna hurt you.Copy !req
1088. Oh!Copy !req
1089. Don't look. Just go.Copy !req
1090. Fuck.Copy !req
1091. Hey, Arthur?Copy !req
1092. Yeah?Copy !req
1093. Arthur, can you get the lock?Copy !req
1094. Shit.Copy !req
1095. Sorry, Gary.Copy !req
1096. Gary?Copy !req
1097. Yeah.Copy !req
1098. You were the only one
that was ever nice to me.Copy !req
1099. Skedaddle.Copy !req
1100. Hey, Arthur!Copy !req
1101. We need to talk.Copy !req
1102. Oh!Copy !req
1103. Hey! Stop, Arthur!Copy !req
1104. Arthur!Copy !req
1105. Watch it!
Out of the way!Copy !req
1106. Move!Copy !req
1107. Arthur!Copy !req
1108. Shit.Copy !req
1109. Hey! Hey!Copy !req
1110. Arthur, stop!Copy !req
1111. Go! Go!Copy !req
1112. Now
departing, O-Train, downtown.Copy !req
1113. Stand clear of
the closing doors.Copy !req
1114. Hold that train! Hold it!Copy !req
1115. Get out! Get outta here!Copy !req
1116. Next stop, Bedford Park.Copy !req
1117. Masks off!Copy !req
1118. Get your mask off!Copy !req
1119. Signs down! Now!Copy !req
1120. Police! Signs down!Copy !req
1121. Signs down.Copy !req
1122. What the fuck!Copy !req
1123. Beat his ass!Copy !req
1124. Stop fighting! Police!Copy !req
1125. Police! Get down!Copy !req
1126. Get down! Get the fuck back!Copy !req
1127. Police! Get down.Copy !req
1128. Get the fuck down!Copy !req
1129. Stay the fuck back! Down!Copy !req
1130. What the...Copy !req
1131. Arthur!Copy !req
1132. Burke!Copy !req
1133. Don't do it!Copy !req
1134. Two officers on the trainCopy !req
1135. were violently confronted
by the crowd,Copy !req
1136. and tonight are in seriousCopy !req
1137. but stable condition
at Gotham Metropolitan.Copy !req
1138. We're going live now toCopy !req
1139. co-anchor Courtney Weathers,Copy !req
1140. who's standing by outside
the Bedford Park Station,Copy !req
1141. near where the shooting
took place.Copy !req
1142. Courtney,
what's the scene there?Copy !req
1143. Murray.Copy !req
1144. Hey, hey, hey.
It's Mr. Franklin, buddy.Copy !req
1145. Oh, come on, Gene.
That's all bullshit.Copy !req
1146. Thank you, Murray.Copy !req
1147. I feel like I know you.Copy !req
1148. I've been watching you forever.Copy !req
1149. Thank you.Copy !req
1150. What's with the face?Copy !req
1151. I mean,
are you part of the protest?Copy !req
1152. No.Copy !req
1153. No, I don't believe
in any of that.Copy !req
1154. I don't believe in anything.Copy !req
1155. I just thought
it'd be good for my act.Copy !req
1156. For your act? Didn't you hearCopy !req
1157. what happened on the subway?
Some clown got killed.Copy !req
1158. He's aware of that.
He's aware of that. Yeah.Copy !req
1159. No, I hadn't heard.Copy !req
1160. - Yeah.
- You see?Copy !req
1161. This is what I'm telling you.
The audience is gonna go crazyCopy !req
1162. if you put this guy on.Copy !req
1163. Maybe for a bit,
but not a whole segment.Copy !req
1164. Gene, it's gonna work.
It's gonna work.Copy !req
1165. We're gonna go with it.Copy !req
1166. Thank you, Murray.Copy !req
1167. Couple rules, though.Copy !req
1168. No cursing.
No off-color material.Copy !req
1169. We do a clean show.Copy !req
1170. - Okay?
- Mmm-hmm.Copy !req
1171. You'll go on
right after Dr. Sally.Copy !req
1172. I love Dr. Sally.Copy !req
1173. Good, good. Someone willCopy !req
1174. - come and get you, okay?
- Okay. Perfect.Copy !req
1175. Good luck.Copy !req
1176. - Thanks, Murray.
- Okay.Copy !req
1177. - Murray, one small thing.
- Yeah.Copy !req
1178. When you bring me out,Copy !req
1179. can you introduce me as Joker?Copy !req
1180. What's wrong
with your real name?Copy !req
1181. That's what you called me
on the show.Copy !req
1182. A joker.Copy !req
1183. Do you remember?Copy !req
1184. - Did I?
- I don't know.Copy !req
1185. Well, if you say so, kid,
you know, Joker it is.Copy !req
1186. It's good.Copy !req
1187. Thanks, Murray.Copy !req
1188. I'll try it, you know,Copy !req
1189. but I'm not sure
my wife will let me do it.Copy !req
1190. Maybe my next wife.Copy !req
1191. You gotta see
our next guest for yourself.Copy !req
1192. I'm pretty sure
this guy could use a doctor.Copy !req
1193. Oh!Copy !req
1194. Does he have sexual problems?Copy !req
1195. Oh, he looks like
he's got a lot of problems.Copy !req
1196. All right, Bobby, let's show
that clip one last time.Copy !req
1197. I hated school as a kid.Copy !req
1198. But my mother would always say,Copy !req
1199. "You should enjoy it.Copy !req
1200. One day, you'll have to
work for a living."Copy !req
1201. "No, I won't, Ma.Copy !req
1202. I'm gonna be a comedian."Copy !req
1203. Okay. You may...Copy !req
1204. You may have seen that clip
of our next guest.Copy !req
1205. Now, before he comes out,
I just want to sayCopy !req
1206. that we're all heartbrokenCopy !req
1207. about what's going on
in the city tonight.Copy !req
1208. But this is
how he wanted to come out,Copy !req
1209. and honestly, I think
we could all use a good laugh.Copy !req
1210. So, please welcome, Joker.Copy !req
1211. Are you all right, Doctor?Copy !req
1212. Well,
that was quite an entrance.Copy !req
1213. You okay?Copy !req
1214. Yeah.Copy !req
1215. This is exactly
how I imagined it.Copy !req
1216. Well, that makes one of us.Copy !req
1217. So, can you tell us
about this look?Copy !req
1218. When we spoke earlier,Copy !req
1219. you mentioned that this look
is not a political statement.Copy !req
1220. Is that right?Copy !req
1221. That's right, Murray.
I'm not political.Copy !req
1222. I'm just trying to
make people laugh.Copy !req
1223. And how's that going for you?Copy !req
1224. So, I know you're a comedian.Copy !req
1225. You been working on
any new material?Copy !req
1226. You wanna tell us a joke?Copy !req
1227. Yeah?Copy !req
1228. Okay.Copy !req
1229. He's got a book.Copy !req
1230. A book of jokes.Copy !req
1231. Take your time.
We got all night.Copy !req
1232. Okay, okay. Here's one.Copy !req
1233. Knock, knock.Copy !req
1234. And you had to look that up?Copy !req
1235. I want to get it right.Copy !req
1236. Knock, knock.Copy !req
1237. Who's there?Copy !req
1238. It's the police, ma'am.Copy !req
1239. Your son's been hit
by a drunk driver.Copy !req
1240. He's dead.Copy !req
1241. Oh, no, no, no.Copy !req
1242. No, you cannot joke about that.Copy !req
1243. Yeah, that's not funny, Arthur.Copy !req
1244. That's not the kind of humor
we do on this show.Copy !req
1245. Okay. I'm... Yeah, I'm sorry.Copy !req
1246. It's just, you know, it's been
a rough few weeks, Murray.Copy !req
1247. Ever sinceCopy !req
1248. I killed
those three Wall Street guys.Copy !req
1249. Okay, I'm waiting
for the punchline.Copy !req
1250. There is no punchline.Copy !req
1251. It's not a joke.Copy !req
1252. You're serious, aren't you?Copy !req
1253. You're telling us you killedCopy !req
1254. those three young men
on the subway?Copy !req
1255. Mmm-hmm.Copy !req
1256. And why should we believe you?Copy !req
1257. I got nothing left to lose.Copy !req
1258. Nothing can hurt me anymore.Copy !req
1259. My life is nothing but a comedy.Copy !req
1260. Well, let me get this straight,Copy !req
1261. you think that killing
those guys is funny?Copy !req
1262. I do.Copy !req
1263. And I'm tired
of pretending it's not.Copy !req
1264. Comedy is subjective, Murray.Copy !req
1265. Isn't that what they say?Copy !req
1266. All of you,Copy !req
1267. the system that knows so much,Copy !req
1268. you decide
what's right or wrong.Copy !req
1269. The same way that you decide
what's funny or not!Copy !req
1270. Get him off!Copy !req
1271. Well, okay,
I think I might understandCopy !req
1272. that you did this to
start a movement,Copy !req
1273. to become a symbol?Copy !req
1274. Come on, Murray.Copy !req
1275. Do I look like the kind of clownCopy !req
1276. that could start a movement?Copy !req
1277. I killed those guys
because they were awful.Copy !req
1278. Everybody is awful these days.Copy !req
1279. It's enough to
make anyone crazy.Copy !req
1280. Okay. So, that's it,
you're crazy.Copy !req
1281. That's your defense
for killing three young men?Copy !req
1282. No.Copy !req
1283. They couldn't carry a tune
to save their lives.Copy !req
1284. Oh, why is everybody
so upset about these guys?Copy !req
1285. If it was me
dying on the sidewalk,Copy !req
1286. you'd walk right over me!Copy !req
1287. I pass you every day,
and you don't notice me.Copy !req
1288. But these guys, what,
because Thomas WayneCopy !req
1289. went and cried about them on TV?Copy !req
1290. You have a problem
with Thomas Wayne, too?Copy !req
1291. Yes, I do.Copy !req
1292. Have you seen what it's like
out there, Murray?Copy !req
1293. Do you ever actually
leave the studio?Copy !req
1294. Everybody just yells
and screams at each other.Copy !req
1295. Nobody's civil anymore.Copy !req
1296. Nobody thinks what it's like
to be the other guy.Copy !req
1297. You think men like
Thomas Wayne ever thinkCopy !req
1298. what it's like to be
someone like me?Copy !req
1299. To be somebody but themselves?
They don't.Copy !req
1300. They think that
we'll just sit thereCopy !req
1301. and take it,
like good little boys!Copy !req
1302. That we won't werewolf
and go wild!Copy !req
1303. You finished?Copy !req
1304. I mean, it's so much
self-pity, Arthur.Copy !req
1305. You sound like
you're making excusesCopy !req
1306. for killing those young men.Copy !req
1307. Not everybody,
and I'll tell you this,Copy !req
1308. not everyone is awful.Copy !req
1309. You're awful, Murray.Copy !req
1310. Me? I'm awful?Copy !req
1311. Oh, yeah, how am I awful?Copy !req
1312. Playing my video.Copy !req
1313. Inviting me on this show.Copy !req
1314. You just wanted to
make fun of me.Copy !req
1315. You're just like
the rest of them.Copy !req
1316. You don't know
