3027. said it went all over the country, nothing was done,

3028. and the motorcade went ahead on schedule.

3029. And this wasn't even mentioned in the Warren Report.

3031. may attempt to assassinate President Kennedy

3032. on his proposed trip to Dallas, Texas.

3033. Shortly after the assassination, Walter says

3034. that the telex was removed from all the files in all the cities,

3035. as an obvious embarrassment to the Bureau.

3036. I believe Oswald was sending information through Hosty.

3037. I have a hunch that, from the get go,

3038. Oswald had infiltrated this group, probably Cubans, right-wing extremists.

3040. that day by his handlers, to either prevent the assassination

3433. But two unpredictable things happened that day that made it virtually impossible.

3435. while standing near the grassy knoll.

3437. the third wounded man, James Tague,

3438. who was nicked by a fragment

3439. while standing near the Triple Underpass.

3440. The time frame of 5.6 seconds established by the Zapruder film,

3441. left no possibility of a fourth shot.

3442. So the shot or fragment

3443. that left a superficial wound on Tague's cheek,

3444. had to come from one of the three bullets

3445. fired from the sixth floor of the depository.

3446. That leaves just two bullets.

3447. And we know one of them was the fatal head shot that killed Kennedy.

3448. So, now, a single bullet remains.

3449. A single bullet now has to account for the remaining

3450. seven wounds in Kennedy and Connally.

3451. But rather than admit to a conspiracy or investigate further,

3452. the Warren Commission chose to endorse the theory put forth

3453. by an ambitious junior counsellor, Arlen Specter,

3454. one of the grossest lies ever forced on the American people.

3455. We've come to know it as the "magic bullet" theory.

3456. The magic bullet...

3457. enters the President's back, headed downward at an angle of 17 degrees.

3458. It then moves upward,

3459. in order to leave Kennedy's body from the front of his neck,

3460. wound number two,

3461. where it waits 1.6 seconds,

3462. presumably in midair, where it turns right,

3463. then left,

3464. right, then left,

3465. and continues into Connally's body at the rear of his right armpit,

3466. wound number three.

3467. The bullet then heads downward,

3468. at an angle of 27 degrees, shattering Connally's fifth rib,

3469. and exiting from the right side of his chest,

3470. wound number four.

3471. The bullet then turns right,

3472. and reenters Connally's body at his right wrist,

3473. would number five.

3485. with some fancy physics in a nuclear laboratory.

3488. with his tail tied to a daisy.

3491. fired some comparison bullets.

3492. Not one of them looked anything like this.

3494. an identical bullet fired through the wrist of a human cadaver.

3522. saw, with their own eyes, the back of the president's head

3523. blasted out!

3525. There was a large, seven-centimeter opening

3526. in the right occipitoparietal area.

3527. A considerable portion of the brain was missing there.

3528. Almost a fifth or possibly a quarter of the back of the head

3529. had been blasted out,

3530. - along with the underlying brain tissue. - Father, what is the proper time to

3531. declare one dead for the last rites?

3532. There was also a large fragment of skull

3533. attached to a flap of scalp.

3534. The exit hole in the rear of his head measured about 120 millimeters,

3537. at Parkland Hospital

3538. regarded his throat wound as anything but a wound of entry.

3539. But then the body was illegally moved to Washington for the autopsy.

3559. picked by the military left something to be desired

3560. insomuch as none of them had any experience with combat gunfire wounds.

3561. Through their autopsy, we've been able to justify eight wounds

3562. - from just two bullets.

3563. Three to Kennedy, five to Connally,

3564. - Look what I found on the floor. - one of them being the magic bullet.

3589. You must understand it was quite crowded.

3590. And when you are called, in circumstances like that,

3591. to look at the wound of the president, who is dead,

3592. you don't look around a lot to ask people for their names and who they are.

3593. But you were a qualified pathologist.

3594. Was this Army general a qualified pathologist?

3595. - No.

3596. No, but you took his orders?

3597. Yes.

3598. - So he was directing the autopsy? - No.

3599. - No? - No, no, because there were others.

3603. And when you are a lieutenant colonel in the Army, you just follow orders.

3607. A lot of people that day were deciding what was private,

3608. none of the American people's business.

3609. The chief pathologist, Commander Humes,

3610. by his own admission voluntarily burned his autopsy notes.

3611. President Johnson orders the blood-soaked limousine,

3612. filled with bullet holes and clues,

3613. to be immediately washed and rebuilt.

3614. He sends John Connally's bloody suit right to the cleaners,

3615. The Justice Department denied this office access to the autopsy photos.

3616. And when we finally get a court order

3617. to examine President Kennedy's brain in the National Archives,

3618. in the hopes of finding from which direction the bullet came from,

3619. we're told by the government...

3620. your government...

3621. that the president's brain has disappeared.

3622. That's not all that's disappeared, gentlemen.

3623. With it, I think, the concept of justice.

3624. Objection, Your Honor!

3625. Not only has Mr. Garrison insulted the federal government,

3626. - but he is also introducing-- - Overruled! Overruled!

3627. So what really happened that day?

3628. Let's just for a moment speculate, shall we?

3629. We have the epileptic seizure around 12:15 p.m.

3630. distracting the police,

3631. making it easier for the shooters to move into their places.

3632. The epileptic later vanished,

3633. - never checking into the hospital.

3634. The A Team gets on the sixth floor of the depository.

3635. Now, they were refurbishing the floors in the depository that week,

3636. which allowed unknown workmen in and out of the building.

3637. They move quickly into position, just minutes before the shooting.

3638. The second spotter on the radio talking to the two other teams

3639. has the best overall view, "the God spot.”

3640. - B Team,

3641. one rifleman and one spotter with a headset and access to the building,

3642. moves into the low floor of the Dal-Tex Building.

3643. The third team, the C Team, moves in behind the picket fence

3644. above the grassy knoll,

3645. where the shooter and the spotter are first seen by the late Lee Bowers

3646. in the watchtower of the railyard.

3647. - They have the best position of all.

3648. Kennedy is close and on a flat, low trajectory.

3649. Part of this team is a coordinator,

3650. who's flashed security credentials at several people,

3651. - chasing them out of the parking lot area.

3652. Probably two to three more men are down in the crowd on Elm.

3653. Ten to 12 men, three teams, three shooters.

3654. The triangulation of fire Clay Shaw and David Ferrie discussed two months before.

3655. - They've walked the Plaza.

3656. They know every inch.

3657. They've calibrated their sights, they've practiced on moving targets.

3658. They're ready.

3659. Kennedy's motorcade makes a turn from Main onto Houston.

3660. - It's gonna be a turkey shoot.

3661. - They don't shoot him coming up Houston,

3662. which is the easiest shot for a single shooter in the book depository!

3663. They wait.

3664. They wait till he gets to the killing zone between three rifles.

3665. Kennedy makes the final turn from Houston onto EIm,

3666. - slowing down...

3667. - to some 11 miles an hour.

3668. The shooters across Dealey Plaza tighten, taking their aim,

3669. waiting for the radio to say,

3670. "green, green!"

3671. or "abort, abort!"

3672. The first shot rings out.

3673. Sounding like a backfire, it misses the car completely.

3674. Frame 161, Kennedy stops waving as he hears something.

3675. Connally's head turns slightly to the right.

3676. Frame 193, the second shot hits Kennedy in the throat from the front.

3677. - Frame 225,

3678. the president emerging from behind the road sign.

3679. You can see that he's obviously been hit, raising his arms to his throat.

3680. - The third shot, frame 232,

3681. hits Kennedy in the back, pulling him downward and forward.

3682. Connally, you will notice, shows no signs at all of being hit.

3683. He is visibly holding his Stetson,

3684. which is impossible if his wrist has been shattered.

3685. Connally is turning here now.

3686. Frame 238, the fourth shot.

3687. It misses Kennedy,

3688. - and takes Connally in the back.

3689. This is the shot that proves there were two rifles.

3690. Connally yells out, "My God, they're going to kill us all!"

3691. Somewhere around this time now, another shot that misses the car completely

3692. - strikes James Tague

3693. down by the underpass.

3694. - The car brakes.

3695. The sixth and fatal shot,

3696. frame 313, takes Kennedy in the head from the front.

3697. - This is the key shot.

3698. The president going back and to his left,

3699. shot from the front and right,

3700. totally inconsistent with the shot from the depository.

3701. - Again, back and to the left.

3702. Back... and to the left.

3703. Back... and to the left.

3704. Back... and to the left.

3705. So what happens then?

3706. Pandemonium.

3707. - Get the hell out of here...

3708. The shooters quickly disassemble their various weapons,

3709. all except the Oswald rifle.

3710. Patrolman Joe Smith rushes into the parking lot behind the picket fence.

3711. - He smells gunpowder.

3712. The character produced credentials from his pocket

3713. - that showed him to be Secret Service.

3714. Let's see your ID.

3715. - You see anybody else up here? - No.

3716. Keep looking!

3717. So I accepted that, and let him go

3718. and continued to search.

3719. But I regretted it, ‘cause this guy looked like an auto mechanic.

3720. He had on a sports shirt and pants,

3721. but he had dirty fingernails.

3722. Afterwards it didn't ring true, but at the time...

3723. we were so pressed for time.

3724. Yet all Secret Servicemen in Dallas that day are accounted for.

3725. None were on foot in Dealey Plaza before or after the shooting,

3726. till Dallas Secret Service Chief Forrest Sorrels returned at 12:55.

3727. At least 12 other individuals were taken into custody by Dallas police.

3728. No record of their arrests.

3729. Men acting like hoboes were being pulled off trains,

3730. marched through Dealey Plaza, photographed,

3731. and yet there is no record for their arrests.

3732. Men identifying themselves as Secret Service agents

3733. were all over the place!

3734. But who was impersonating them?

3735. And where was Lee Harvey Oswald?

3736. Around 12:15,

3737. on her way out of the building to see the motorcade,

3738. secretary Carolyn Arnold sees Oswald in the second floor snack room,

3739. where he said he went for a Coke.

3740. He was in a booth on the right side of the room.

3741. Um...

3742. He was by himself, as usual,

3743. and appeared to be having his lunch.

3744. I didn't speak to him, but I recognized him clearly.

3745. At the same time, Bonnie Ray Williams

3746. is supposedly eating his chicken lunch

3747. on the sixth floor.

3748. He's there until 12:15, maybe 12:20.

3749. He sees nobody.

3750. Arnold Rowland's down on the street, he's looking up,

3751. he sees two men in the sixth floor window,

3752. presumably after Bonnie Ray Williams had finished his lunch and left.

3753. - John Powell,

3754. a prisoner on the sixth floor of the Dallas county jail, sees them.

3755. Quite a few of us guys saw them.

3756. Everybody was hollering and yelling and all that.

3757. - We thought they was security guys.

3758. If Oswald was the assassin,

3759. he was certainly pretty nonchalant about moving himself into position.

3760. Later, he told Dallas police he was in the second-floor snack room.

3761. Probably told to wait there by his handler for a phone call.

3762. But the phone call never came.

3763. A maximum 90 seconds after Kennedy is shot,

3764. patrolman Marrion Baker runs into Oswald

3765. in that second-floor lunchroom.

3766. Hey, you!

3767. Do you know this man? Is he an employee?

3768. Yes, he is.

3769. The president's been shot!

3770. But what the Warren Commission would have us believe

3771. is that after firing three bolt-action shots in 5.6 seconds,

3772. Oswald then leaves three cartridges neatly side by side in the firing nest,

3773. wipes the rifle clear of fingerprints,

3774. stashes the rifle on the other side of the loft,

3775. sprints down five flights of stairs,

3776. past witnesses Victoria Adams and Sandra Styles,

3777. who never see him,

3778. then shows up, cool and calm,

3779. on the second floor in front of Patrolman Baker.

3780. All this within a maximum of 90 seconds of the shooting.

3781. Hey, you!

3782. Do you know this man? Is he an employee?

3783. Yes, he is. The president's been shot!

3784. Is he out of breath?

3785. According to Baker, absolutely not.

3786. Assuming he is the sole assassin,

3787. Oswald is now free to escape from the building.

3788. The longer he delays, the more chance the building will be sealed by police.

3789. Is he guilty?

3790. Does he walk out the nearest staircase?

3791. No, he buys a Coke.

3792. And at a slow pace,

3793. spotted by Mrs. Reid on the second floor,

3794. he strolls out the more distant front exit,

3795. - where the cops have gathered.

3796. Oddly, considering that three shots have been fired from there,

3797. nobody seals the book depository for 10 more minutes.

3798. Oswald slips out, as do several other employees.

3799. Of course, when he realized something had gone wrong

3800. and the president had been killed,

3801. he knew there was a problem.

3802. He may even have known he was the patsy.

3803. An intuition, maybe.

3804. The president killed, in spite of his warning.

3805. The phone call that never came.

3806. Perhaps, fear now came to Oswald for the very first time.

3807. So Oswald returns to his rooming house around 1 p.m.,

3808. - a half hour after the assassination.

3809. - A man shot the president!

3810. He puts on his jacket, grabs his .38 revolver,

3811. - and leaves at 1:04.

3812. - Earlene Roberts, the housekeeper,

3813. says she heard two beeps on a car horn, that two uniformed cops

3814. pulled up to the house where Oswald was in his room,

3815. like it was a signal or something.

3816. Officer Tippit is shot between 1:10

3817. and 1:15, about a mile away.

3818. And though no one actually saw him walking or jogging,

3819. the government says Oswald covered that distance.

3820. Now, giving the government

3821. - the benefit of the doubt, - Sir?

3822. - Excuse me, sir? - Oswald would have had to jog

3823. a mile in six to 11 minutes

3824. - and then commit the murder,

3825. then reverse his direction

3826. and walk three-fifths of a mile to the Texas Theatre

3827. and arrive sometime before 1:30.

3828. It's also a useful conclusion, after all.

3829. Why else would Oswald kill Tippit?

3830. Unless he'd just shot the president,

3831. - and feared arrest?

3832. Domingo Benavides,

3833. - the closest witness to the shooting,

3834. refused to identify Oswald as the killer and was never taken to a lineup.

3835. Acquilla Clemons saw the killer with another man,

3836. and says they went off in separate directions.

3837. Mrs. Clemons was never taken to a lineup or to the Warren Commission.

3838. At the scene of the crime,

3839. Officer J. M. Poe marks the shells with his initials

3840. - to record the chain of evidence.

3841. Those initials are not on the three cartridge cases,

3842. which the Warren Commission present to him.

3843. As early as 12:44, only 14 minutes after the assassination,

3844. the police radio put out a description matching Oswald's size

3845. - and build.

3846. Oswald is next seen by a shoe salesman, Johnny Brewer,

3847. lurking along Jefferson Avenue.

3848. Oswald is scared.

3849. He begins to realize the full implications of this thing.

3850. He goes into the Texas Theatre, possibly his prearranged meeting point,

3851. but though he has 14 dollars in his pocket,

3852. he does not buy the 75-cent ticket.

3853. And Brewer has the cashier call the police.

3854. - In response to the cashier's call,

3855. at least 30 officers in a fleet of patrol cars

3856. descend on the movie theater.

3857. Now, this has to be the most remarkable example of police intuition

3858. - since the Reichstag fire.

3859. - And I don't buy it. They knew.

3860. Someone knew Oswald was going to be there.

3861. Brewer helpfully leads the cops into the theater

3862. and from the stage points Oswald out.

3863. There he is.

3864. Sir, can I get you to stand up, please?

3865. - This is it!

3866. Kill the president, will you?

3867. I am not resisting arrest!

3868. I am not resisting arrest!

3869. The police have their man.

3870. It's already been decided...

3871. in Washington.

3872. By the time he is brought out from the theater,

3873. a large crowd is waiting to scream at him.

3874. Lee Oswald must've felt like Josef K in Kafka's The Trial.

3875. He's never told the reasons for his arrest,

3876. he doesn't know the unseen forces ranging against him.

3877. By the time he reached police headquarters,

3878. he is booked for murdering Tippit.

3879. - No legal counsel is provided,

3880. no record made of the long questioning.

3881. By the time the sun rises the next morning,

3882. he is booked for murdering the president.

3883. The whole country, fueled by the media,

3884. assumes he is guilty.

3885. Under the guise of a patriotic nightclub owner

3886. out to spare Jackie Kennedy from having to testify at a trial,

3887. Jack Ruby is shown into an underground garage

3888. by one of his inside men on the Dallas police force,

3889. and when he is ready, Lee Harvey Oswald

3890. - is brought out like a sacrificial lamb

3891. and nicely disposed of, as an enemy of the people.

3892. Oswald!

3893. Who grieves for Lee Harvey Oswald?

3894. Buried in a cheap grave under the name "Oswald"?

3895. Nobody.

3896. Within minutes,

3897. false statements and press leaks about Lee Oswald circulate the globe.

3898. The Official Legend is created and the media takes it from there.

3899. The glitter of official lies and the epic splendor

3900. of the thought-numbing funeral of JFK

3901. confuse the eye and confound the understanding.

3902. Hitler always said...

3903. "the bigger the lie, the more people will believe it."

3904. Lee Harvey Oswald, a crazed, lonely man who wanted attention

3905. and got it by killing a president, was only the first

3906. in a long line of patsies.

3909. commitment to change and peace

3910. would make them dangerous to men who are committed to war, would follow,

3911. also killed by such lonely, crazed men,

3912. men who remove our guilt by making murder

3915. children of a slain father-leader,

3916. whose killers still possess the throne.

3917. The ghost of John F. Kennedy confronts us with the secret murder

3921. What is our citizenship, and more, our lives worth?

3959. was a reversal of President Kennedy's commitment to withdraw from Vietnam.

3961. President Kennedy was murdered by a conspiracy

3962. that was planned in advance at the highest levels of our government,

3963. and it was carried out by fanatical and disciplined Cold Warriors

3985. pertaining to Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack Ruby.

3986. Or the secret CIA memo

3987. on Oswald's activities in Russia that was destroyed

3988. while being photocopied.

3989. All these documents are yours,

3990. the people's property. You pay for it.

3991. But because the government considers you children who might be too disturbed

3992. or distressed to face this reality,

3993. or because you might possibly lynch those involved,

3994. you cannot see these documents for another 75 years.

3996. so I'll have shuffled off this mortal coil by then,

3997. but I'm already telling my eight-year-old son

3998. to keep himself physically fit,

3999. so that one glorious September morning

4000. in the year 2038,

4001. he can walk into the National Archives

4002. and find out what the CIA and the FBI knew!

4003. They may even push it back, then.

4004. Hell, it may become a generational affair,

4005. with questions passed down father to son,

4006. mother to daughter.

4030. and one often has to fight power at great risk to themselves.

4034. They've all taken that risk. They've all come forward.

4039. These are people who cannot afford to send money but do.
