7. The Carmichael Manor was something that fascinated me

8. as a true crime writer for a long time.

9. They were an extremely wealthy family.

10. I mean, their home was deep in the woods,

11. totally remote from civilization.

12. You had to drive literal miles and miles down dirt roads

13. just to get to it.

14. And tragically, one October morning,

15. the police discovered Catherine and Eleanor Carmichael

16. both dead in their beds, just horrifically murdered.

17. The obvious suspect is the father, Arthur Carmichael.

18. What's the problem with that?

19. Well, he and the 20-year-old son, Patrick Carmichael,

20. have been missing for the last 30 years—

21. like, completely vanished.

22. But I think they leaned heavily on Arthur

23. because there was early snow that year,

24. and there's only one set of footprints leaving the house.

25. Nothing coming in.

26. Most likely Arthur,

27. since Patrick only had use of one arm at the time

28. after the car accident.

29. Earlier that same year,

30. Patrick and their elder sister, Margaret,

31. were involved in a car crash,

32. which tragically killed Margaret.

33. Patrick was driving Margaret home from the city

34. when they were smashed by a drunk driver.

35. Patrick ends up surviving the accident,

36. just losing the use of one arm.

37. But Margaret was declared dead at the scene.

38. The decades-old murder was ripe for Reddit conspiracies,

39. Internet sleuth speculation.

40. The rumors that it was haunted started very early on.

41. Carmichael Manor is home to a grizzly murder

42. that occurred right upstairs from where I stand

43. just one year ago.

44. Half the family murdered,

45. while the other half is still missing, and still no answers.

359. we developed it into a pretty significant community

360. of Internet detectives focused on solving the unsolved.

362. She began this routine of staying in the places

365. Her last investigation ended up being the Carmichael Manor.

366. It's alleged that, on October 10th, 1989,

367. Arthur killed his wife, daughter, and son

368. during the night, just brutally stabbing them.

369. And then, he leaves the manor with Patrick,

370. dumping his body in some unknown location.

371. And then, Arthur just completely disappears.

372. What makes him the main suspect?

373. Because there was no forced entry.

374. And there was also early snow that year,

375. so it was very easy for the police to see a single set

376. of footprints leaving the house and going into the woods.

380. so the police think that he may have been Arthur's first victim,

382. then Catherine, and then Eleanor, stabbing them.
