1. These words were spoken
centuries before Jesus...
Copy !req
2. by the prophet Isaiah.
Copy !req
3. And down these paths
have passed the feet of many...
Copy !req
4. leaving footprints,
victim to the wind...
Copy !req
5. for the sands of time to cover...
Copy !req
6. only to make place
for another footstep to fall.
Copy !req
7. And upon the promise of the prophets...
Copy !req
8. many generations looked
for the coming of the Prince of Peace...
Copy !req
9. the Messiah.
Copy !req
10. And many have come, saying...
Copy !req
11. "I am the one.
It is I they speak of. It is I."
Copy !req
12. And many have gone,
as short-lived as their promise...
Copy !req
13. to fulfill these timeless prophecies.
Copy !req
14. But one came by that wasn't forgotten.
Copy !req
15. Never a man spoke like this man.
Copy !req
16. Never a man did the things
on this Earth...
Copy !req
17. that this man did.
Copy !req
18. And his words were as beautiful
as his miracles.
Copy !req
19. To many believers,
their life's desire...
Copy !req
20. is to be baptized in the Jordan River,
as Jesus was.
Copy !req
21. They kneel at the holy places...
Copy !req
22. places that are holy
simply because Jesus was there.
Copy !req
23. They walk the way of the cross.
Copy !req
24. They shout, "Praise the Lord!"
Copy !req
25. And they mean it.
Copy !req
26. Now, come along with me
in the footsteps of Jesus...
Copy !req
27. and I'll show you why they do.
Copy !req
28. Here in the peaceful countryside of Nazareth...
Copy !req
29. Jesus often walked, studied,
meditated and prayed.
Copy !req
30. It was here in this quiet countryside
that the strength of character...
Copy !req
31. and patient endurance was built.
Copy !req
32. Later he would be branded
by skeptics as a false prophet...
Copy !req
33. by the wicked as a fool...
Copy !req
34. and by the scribes and Pharisees,
the keepers of the law...
Copy !req
35. as a radical, as a revolutionist,
as a man to be feared...
Copy !req
36. for his words represented change.
Copy !req
37. He knew his purpose in this world...
Copy !req
38. and he knew that Scripture,
he knew the word.
Copy !req
39. Time and again, he was to bring out
the true meaning of the words of the prophets.
Copy !req
40. As the words said...
Copy !req
41. "He gained in stature and in favor...
Copy !req
42. with God and man."
Copy !req
43. And then one day came the voice of a man
crying in the wilderness.
Copy !req
44. Repent, repent, repent.
Copy !req
45. The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Copy !req
46. A prophet has risen up
among the people now.
Copy !req
47. John the Baptist, they call him.
Copy !req
48. And the Pharisees and the elders
of the temple asked him if he was the Christ...
Copy !req
49. if he was the Messiah
or if he was one of the prophets.
Copy !req
50. And he answered them,
"No, I'm the forerunner.
Copy !req
51. I was sent to tell you
that the son of God is coming now."
Copy !req
52. And this is the minute
that John the Baptist was born for.
Copy !req
53. Behold, the lamb of God...
Copy !req
54. which takes away the sins of the world.
Copy !req
55. And Jesus said...
Copy !req
56. "Baptize me, John."
Copy !req
57. And John said,
"No, it's you that should baptize me."
Copy !req
58. And Jesus said again,
"Baptize me, John...
Copy !req
59. that all things might be fulfilled."
Copy !req
60. And the voice of God
was heard saying...
Copy !req
61. "This is my beloved son...
Copy !req
62. in whom I am well pleased."
Copy !req
63. John the Baptist said,
"When I baptized him...
Copy !req
64. "I looked, and I saw the Holy Spirit
descending like a dove from heaven.
Copy !req
65. And I bear record then
that the son of God had come."
Copy !req
66. And led by the Holy Spirit,
he entered the wilderness...
Copy !req
67. as he had often gone alone to pray,
to meditate, to study the Scriptures.
Copy !req
68. Now comes the battle
of light against darkness...
Copy !req
69. that big fight
between Jesus and the devil...
Copy !req
70. when the devil would try
to claim him as one of his own...
Copy !req
71. to keep him from his divine purpose.
Copy !req
72. But surely as he would lose...
Copy !req
73. Jesus was that sure
of his purpose in this world.
Copy !req
74. But the devil tempted him.
Copy !req
75. And he said, "If you have the power of God,
turn these stones to bread."
Copy !req
76. And Jesus said,
"You can't live by bread alone."
Copy !req
77. The devil said, "Follow me, Jesus."
Copy !req
78. And Jesus said,
"Get behind me, Satan."
Copy !req
79. And he showed him all the riches
of the world, all the great kingdoms.
Copy !req
80. Took him up on a high pinnacle,
and he said...
Copy !req
81. "All the power of this has been
given to me to give to you...
Copy !req
82. if you'll follow me, Jesus."
Copy !req
83. And Jesus said,
"It is written. It is written.
Copy !req
84. Thou shalt worship the Lord, thy God...
Copy !req
85. and him only shall thou serve."
Copy !req
86. And now the steps that he would take...
Copy !req
87. were those steps he was born for.
Copy !req
88. That short ministry...
Copy !req
89. where he would speak
so many beautiful words...
Copy !req
90. do so many beautiful things...
Copy !req
91. that would mean so much
to so many millions of people.
Copy !req
92. And he took the scroll
of the prophet Isaiah...
Copy !req
93. and he read where it is written...
Copy !req
94. "The spirit of the Lord is upon me.
Copy !req
95. "He hath anointed me
to preach the gospel to the poor.
Copy !req
96. - "He has sent me to heal the broken heart...
Copy !req
97. "to preach deliverance
to the captives...
Copy !req
98. "the recovering of sight
to the blind...
Copy !req
99. to set at liberty
them that are bruised."
Copy !req
100. And then he said...
Copy !req
101. "This day is this Scripture...
Copy !req
102. fulfilled."
Copy !req
103. And they all began to say...
Copy !req
104. - "Isn't this the son of Joseph of Nazareth?
Copy !req
105. "Isn't this the carpenter's son?
Copy !req
106. "Has a carpenter come
to announce his divinity?
Copy !req
107. "Did he say that he is the son of God?
Copy !req
108. What did he say?"
Copy !req
109. And Jesus said...
Copy !req
110. "A prophet is without honor
in his own country."
Copy !req
111. And they would've killed him,
but he got away.
Copy !req
112. His opposition is established
from the beginning now.
Copy !req
113. He is to be followed and spied on
throughout his ministry...
Copy !req
114. by the scribes and Pharisees.
Copy !req
115. Many times an attempt would be made
on his life because of his teachings...
Copy !req
116. calling for repentance and reform.
Copy !req
117. He will always be in danger of death...
Copy !req
118. at the hands of the temple rulers...
Copy !req
119. until that final day down
on Calvary's hill...
Copy !req
120. when all his worldly opposition...
Copy !req
121. will be gathered together to do him in.
Copy !req
122. Jesus was invited to a wedding feast
at the town of Cana...
Copy !req
123. which is a short distance
from Nazareth.
Copy !req
124. And during the wedding celebration...
Copy !req
125. the wine ran out.
Copy !req
126. The miracle of
the turning the water into wine...
Copy !req
127. is a parable
of Jesus' teachings in itself—
Copy !req
128. an act of kindness,
of love, of charity...
Copy !req
129. for his friends and neighbors.
Copy !req
130. Jesus' miracles were like a bell that rang
to draw the people from far and wide.
Copy !req
131. And they gave up their daily tasks...
Copy !req
132. and they followed him wherever he went.
Copy !req
133. This tiny land of Israel was really
an outpost of the Roman Empire.
Copy !req
134. For the most part,
the people tried to ignore the Romans.
Copy !req
135. They even turned their backs
when they passed by.
Copy !req
136. It was the temple rulers,
the scribes and the Pharisees...
Copy !req
137. under a high priest, Caiaphas...
Copy !req
138. that really held sway over the people.
Copy !req
139. Jesus loved all men...
Copy !req
140. but I guess if there was one thing
he really couldn't stand, that was a hypocrite.
Copy !req
141. And he saw in the scribes and the Pharisees
and the elders of the people in the temple...
Copy !req
142. total hypocrisy.
Copy !req
143. "Blasphemer, " they all call him...
Copy !req
144. for saying that he's divine,
the Son of God in the flesh.
Copy !req
145. But the mass of the people,
especially the poor and underprivileged...
Copy !req
146. followed him in such numbers
that they walked on top of each other...
Copy !req
147. just to touch the hem of his garment.
Copy !req
148. Jesus came to the city of Bethsaida...
Copy !req
149. and the blind man was brought to him.
Copy !req
150. And the blind man said to Jesus—
Copy !req
151. So Jesus touched him.
Copy !req
152. He put his hands on the blind man's eyes
and he said...
Copy !req
153. "Now, open your eyes
and tell me what you see."
Copy !req
154. And I can almost see that man now
openin' his eyes for the first time...
Copy !req
155. lookin' around and seein' the dim outline
of the people around him.
Copy !req
156. He said—
Copy !req
157. So Jesus touched him one more time.
Copy !req
158. He laid his hands on his eyes
and he said...
Copy !req
159. "Now open your eyes and look up...
Copy !req
160. and tell me what you see."
Copy !req
161. And the man said—
Copy !req
162. And the word continued to spread
that Christ had come.
Copy !req
163. Once Jesus made the reason clear
for his coming...
Copy !req
164. he chose for himself named
and numbered disciples.
Copy !req
165. The number was 12.
Copy !req
166. Most of them came from right here
in his Galilean homeland.
Copy !req
167. Some of them were rough
and uneducated...
Copy !req
168. but beneath the outward hardness
of these men...
Copy !req
169. he saw a strong inner light...
Copy !req
170. a spark that would burn eternally.
Copy !req
171. And he bestowed upon them
his own miraculous power—
Copy !req
172. to heal the sick,
to bring the dead back to life.
Copy !req
173. And he especially told them
to go and preach his gospel.
Copy !req
174. He educated them,
and he had patience with them.
Copy !req
175. He often spoke to them
as he would speak with little children.
Copy !req
176. He even called them "children."
Copy !req
177. He patiently endured
their clumsiness...
Copy !req
178. and their rude misunderstanding
of his words.
Copy !req
179. A t times they were his only audience.
Copy !req
180. He drew them to himself...
Copy !req
181. and he stamped his own image upon them.
Copy !req
182. He picked 'em up along the road,
along the seashore, wherever he might see them.
Copy !req
183. He would say to one,
"Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Copy !req
184. Among his first disciples were James and John,
the sons of Zebedee.
Copy !req
185. John was to write a beautiful gospel
of Jesus Christ...
Copy !req
186. in later years.
Copy !req
187. There was Andrew, Philip...
Copy !req
188. Nathanael...
Copy !req
189. Thomas...
Copy !req
190. Matthew...
Copy !req
191. Simon...
Copy !req
192. Thaddaeus...
Copy !req
193. James...
Copy !req
194. Judas Iscariot...
Copy !req
195. and Simon Peter.
Copy !req
196. Once Jesus said to his disciples...
Copy !req
197. "Whom do men say that I,
the son of man, am?"
Copy !req
198. And some of the disciples said...
Copy !req
199. "Some say you're John the Baptist.
Copy !req
200. "And Elias and others
say you're Jeremiah...
Copy !req
201. or one of the other prophets."
Copy !req
202. And then he said to them,
"Well, who do you say that I am?"
Copy !req
203. And it was Simon Peter that said...
Copy !req
204. "You are the Christ,
the son of the living God."
Copy !req
205. And Jesus said,
"Blessed are you, Simon...
Copy !req
206. "for flesh and blood has not revealed it to you,
but my father...
Copy !req
207. which is in heaven."
Copy !req
208. And Jesus went on to say...
Copy !req
209. "You are Peter,
and upon this rock I will build my church...
Copy !req
210. "and the gates of hell
shall not prevail against it.
Copy !req
211. "And I'll give you
the keys of the kingdom.
Copy !req
212. "And whatsoever you shall
bind on Earth...
Copy !req
213. "shall be bound in heaven.
Copy !req
214. "And whatsoever
you shall loose on Earth...
Copy !req
215. shall be loosed in heaven."
Copy !req
216. And he said,
"Hear my words and keep my commandments.
Copy !req
217. "I am the way, the truth and the life.
Copy !req
218. You shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free."
Copy !req
219. And they were astonished
at his doctrine.
Copy !req
220. They said,
"He teaches as one who has authority...
Copy !req
221. "and not as the scribes and Pharisees.
Copy !req
222. Never a man spoke like this man."
Copy !req
223. "I am the good shepherd.
Copy !req
224. "I am the gate, and those who come in
through the gate will be saved.
Copy !req
225. "And anyone who believes in me,
even though he dies...
Copy !req
226. "shall live again.
Copy !req
227. "I am the good shepherd...
Copy !req
228. and the good shepherd
shall give his life for his sheep."
Copy !req
229. And then Jesus told them
the two greatest commandments.
Copy !req
230. "Hear, O Israel, the Lord, our God...
Copy !req
231. "is one Lord...
Copy !req
232. "and thou shalt love the Lord thy God
with all thy heart...
Copy !req
233. "with all thy soul
and with all thy mind...
Copy !req
234. "and with all thy strength.
Copy !req
235. "And the second greatest commandment
is like the first.
Copy !req
236. Thou shalt love thy neighbor
as thyself."
Copy !req
237. And Jesus went on to say that
on these two commandments...
Copy !req
238. hang all the law of the prophets...
Copy !req
239. commandments that you love.
Copy !req
240. And about love Jesus said...
Copy !req
241. "Greater love hath no man than this—
Copy !req
242. that he would lay down his life
for his friend."
Copy !req
243. John the Baptist was put into prison.
Copy !req
244. The pain and the agony
of his imprisonment...
Copy !req
245. and weary weeks and months
in the dungeon...
Copy !req
246. made John begin to doubt, at times...
Copy !req
247. that he had really
baptized the Messiah...
Copy !req
248. that day down
on the Jordan River.
Copy !req
249. Well, John sent two of his own disciples
to ask Jesus again...
Copy !req
250. if he really was the Messiah.
Copy !req
251. Jesus sent the messengers
back to John and said...
Copy !req
252. "Go your way and tell John
what things you have seen and heard—
Copy !req
253. "how the blind see, the lame walk...
Copy !req
254. "the lepers are cleansed,
the deaf hear...
Copy !req
255. "the dead are raised...
Copy !req
256. and to the poor
the gospel is preached."
Copy !req
257. Well, John was later beheaded
by the command of Herod...
Copy !req
258. the voice from the wilderness
silenced out of fear—
Copy !req
259. the growing fear of the political leaders
of the country...
Copy !req
260. fear that was building into a storm...
Copy !req
261. that Jesus was gonna face
in all its fury down the road.
Copy !req
262. When Jesus heard
of John the Baptist's death...
Copy !req
263. he went off into the wilderness
in sadness...
Copy !req
264. for the man that had truly paved the way
for his coming.
Copy !req
265. John the Baptist,
the lightning before the thunder, was gone.
Copy !req
266. This is a temple,
which to Jesus was his father's house...
Copy !req
267. and they've made it into
a den of thieves...
Copy !req
268. a store, a house of merchandise.
Copy !req
269. And he said, "Woe unto you,
scribes, Pharisees, hypocrites.
Copy !req
270. "You bind men with heavy burdens...
Copy !req
271. "and all your works you do
to be seen by men.
Copy !req
272. "Woe unto you, scribes,
Pharisees, hypocrites.
Copy !req
273. "You shut up the kingdom
of heaven against men...
Copy !req
274. "and you're not even going in yourself.
Copy !req
275. "Woe unto you, scribes,
Pharisees, hypocrites.
Copy !req
276. "You're like the tombs of the prophets—
Copy !req
277. "bright and shiny on the outside...
Copy !req
278. "and full of corruption inside.
Copy !req
279. You blind guides,
you strain at a gnat and swallow a camel."
Copy !req
280. Jesus, directly and defiantly...
Copy !req
281. challenged the established
temple worship...
Copy !req
282. ruled by the high priest
and the Pharisees.
Copy !req
283. And his public exposé of the hypocrites
and the religious establishment...
Copy !req
284. would do him in.
Copy !req
285. During his ministry...
Copy !req
286. he had not ceased to remind them
of his wisdom in the Mosaic law...
Copy !req
287. repeatedly telling them,
"For it is written."
Copy !req
288. "Think not that I am come
to destroy the law or the prophets.
Copy !req
289. I am not come to destroy,
but to fulfill."
Copy !req
290. Jesus was born a Jew...
Copy !req
291. but he made it clear
that he was sent to all men for all time.
Copy !req
292. "Come unto me,
all ye that labor and are heavy-laden...
Copy !req
293. "and I will give you rest.
Copy !req
294. "Take my yoke upon you
and learn of me...
Copy !req
295. "for I am meek and lowly in heart...
Copy !req
296. "and you shall find rest
unto your souls.
Copy !req
297. For my yoke is easy,
and my burden is light."
Copy !req
298. And they brought a woman into the temple,
and they said...
Copy !req
299. "Master, this woman was caught
in the very act of adultery.
Copy !req
300. What do you say
should be done with her?"
Copy !req
301. Jesus' back was against the wall now.
Copy !req
302. The Pharisees are trying
to trap him with a question.
Copy !req
303. So far as they know,
any answer he gives is the wrong answer...
Copy !req
304. and they have him.
Copy !req
305. If he says, "Forgive this woman, "
he's going against the law.
Copy !req
306. Yet, on the other hand,
if he says, "Stone this woman"...
Copy !req
307. it's a direct contradiction
of all his teachings...
Copy !req
308. of love and compassion,
understanding and forgiveness.
Copy !req
309. So Jesus says, "He without sin...
Copy !req
310. cast the first stone."
Copy !req
311. And then Jesus started
writing in the sand...
Copy !req
312. and it's not really known what he wrote,
but maybe he was writin' things like...
Copy !req
313. "Liar.
Copy !req
314. "Hypocrite.
Copy !req
315. "Thief.
Copy !req
316. "Rapist.
Copy !req
317. Murderer."
Copy !req
318. And then Jesus said,
"Woman, where are your accusers?"
Copy !req
319. And she said, "No man here, Lord."
Copy !req
320. And he said, "Neither do I accuse you.
Copy !req
321. Go and sin no more."
Copy !req
322. A man named Nicodemus
came to Jesus alone one night.
Copy !req
323. Nicodemus was a member of the Pharisees.
Copy !req
324. He came to ask Jesus
a very important question about eternal life.
Copy !req
325. He said, "Master, we know that
you're a teacher sent from God...
Copy !req
326. "for no man can do
the miracles that you do...
Copy !req
327. except that God be with you."
Copy !req
328. And Jesus said to Nicodemus,
"You must be born again."
Copy !req
329. How can a man be born when he's old?
Copy !req
330. How can these things be?
Copy !req
331. - For God so loved the world...
Copy !req
332. that he gave his only begotten Son...
Copy !req
333. that whosoever believeth on him...
Copy !req
334. shall not perish...
Copy !req
335. but have everlasting life.
Copy !req
336. Jesus addressed men as men...
Copy !req
337. and not as members
of any particular class...
Copy !req
338. or of any particular culture.
Copy !req
339. The differences which divide men...
Copy !req
340. such as wealth, position,
education and so forth...
Copy !req
341. he knew were strictly on the surface.
Copy !req
342. And Jesus taught them, saying...
Copy !req
343. "Judge not, lest you be judged.
Copy !req
344. "Ask, and you shall receive.
Copy !req
345. "Knock, and the door shall be opened.
Copy !req
346. "If a man asks you to go a mile with him,
go with him two.
Copy !req
347. "If a man asks for your coat,
give him your cloak also.
Copy !req
348. "Don't turn away
him that would borrow...
Copy !req
349. "but do your alms in secret,
and your father, which sees in secret...
Copy !req
350. "will reward you openly.
Copy !req
351. "Consider the lilies of the field.
Copy !req
352. "They toil not, neither do they spin.
Copy !req
353. "Yet Solomon, in all his glory...
Copy !req
354. "was not arrayed like one of these.
Copy !req
355. "So take no thought
of what you will eat...
Copy !req
356. "what you will wear
and where you will sleep...
Copy !req
357. "but seek ye first the kingdom of God
and his righteousness...
Copy !req
358. and all these things
shall be added unto you."
Copy !req
359. And Jesus said...
Copy !req
360. "Blessed are the poor in spirit...
Copy !req
361. "for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Copy !req
362. "Blessed are they that mourn...
Copy !req
363. "for they shall be comforted.
Copy !req
364. "Blessed are the meek...
Copy !req
365. "for they shall inherit the Earth.
Copy !req
366. "Blessed are they which do hunger
and thirst after righteousness...
Copy !req
367. "for they shall be filled.
Copy !req
368. "Blessed are the merciful...
Copy !req
369. "for they shall obtain mercy.
Copy !req
370. "Blessed are the pure in heart...
Copy !req
371. "for they shall see God.
Copy !req
372. "Blessed are the peacemakers...
Copy !req
373. "for they shall be called
'the children of God. '
Copy !req
374. "Blessed are they which are persecuted
for righteousness's sake...
Copy !req
375. "for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Copy !req
376. "Blessed are ye
when men shall revile you...
Copy !req
377. "and persecute you and say...
Copy !req
378. "all manner of evil against you
falsely for my sake.
Copy !req
379. "Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad...
Copy !req
380. "for great is your reward in heaven.
Copy !req
381. "Therefore...
Copy !req
382. "pray likewise in this manner—
Copy !req
383. "Our father, which art in heaven...
Copy !req
384. "hallowed be thy name.
Copy !req
385. "Thy kingdom come...
Copy !req
386. "thy will be done...
Copy !req
387. "on Earth, as it is in heaven.
Copy !req
388. "Give us this day...
Copy !req
389. "our daily bread...
Copy !req
390. "and forgive us our debts...
Copy !req
391. "as we forgive our debtors.
Copy !req
392. "And lead us not into temptation...
Copy !req
393. "but deliver us...
Copy !req
394. "from evil...
Copy !req
395. "for thine is the kingdom...
Copy !req
396. "and the power...
Copy !req
397. "and the glory...
Copy !req
398. "forever.
Copy !req
399. Amen."
Copy !req
400. I bet Mary Magdalene walked
this same beach right here...
Copy !req
401. that I'm walking on.
Copy !req
402. I wonder what Mary Magdalene
really looked like.
Copy !req
403. The Scriptures don't tell
a lot about her...
Copy !req
404. but what little is told
has made her the subject...
Copy !req
405. of more speculation and controversy...
Copy !req
406. than any woman I ever heard of.
Copy !req
407. Jesus was to suffer much criticism...
Copy !req
408. for his association with people...
Copy !req
409. of questionable character.
Copy !req
410. "He dines with publicans and sinners,"
they said.
Copy !req
411. And to that, Jesus replied...
Copy !req
412. "It's the sick that need a physician...
Copy !req
413. not the healthy."
Copy !req
414. And this woman needed him.
Copy !req
415. I'm so happy.
Copy !req
416. I'm so happy.
Copy !req
417. I've just seen Jesus.
Copy !req
418. I've seen him many times...
Copy !req
419. 'cause he came back.
Copy !req
420. But he came alone today...
Copy !req
421. and he touched me.
Copy !req
422. Seven times he touched me.
Copy !req
423. And each time he touched me...
Copy !req
424. I'd feel something evil go out of me.
Copy !req
425. And I am clean.
Copy !req
426. I am clean.
Copy !req
427. Oh.
Copy !req
428. And he's gone.
Copy !req
429. But I will follow him...
Copy !req
430. because I love him.
Copy !req
431. Mary was the kind of woman that...
Copy !req
432. Jesus was to have a lot of love...
Copy !req
433. and compassion for.
Copy !req
434. A lot of love and compassion...
Copy !req
435. for Mary Magdalene.
Copy !req
436. He must have been the kind of a man that would
always gather little children about him.
Copy !req
437. You know, little children, even babies...
Copy !req
438. sense and understand when a grown person
likes them or loves them.
Copy !req
439. I think Jesus must have
had those qualities...
Copy !req
440. qualities that make a man
something special...
Copy !req
441. even to little babies...
Copy !req
442. as I'm sure he must have had a lot of them
around him wherever he went.
Copy !req
443. He was the kind of man
that the little children would flock to.
Copy !req
444. You can almost hear them saying...
Copy !req
445. "Look. Here comes Jesus."
Copy !req
446. Don't you know they ran to him?
Copy !req
447. I think when I was a little bitty kid,
if Jesus had come by...
Copy !req
448. I would have run to him.
Copy !req
449. Jesus said,
"Except you humble yourself as a little child...
Copy !req
450. "you can't see the kingdom of heaven.
Copy !req
451. "Suffer little children,
and forbid them not to come unto me...
Copy !req
452. for of such is the kingdom of heaven."
Copy !req
453. Jesus was 33 years old now.
Copy !req
454. Had a little less
than four months to live.
Copy !req
455. Four months.
How much could he cover in four months?
Copy !req
456. This thought alone would make most men say,
"What's the use?" You know?
Copy !req
457. As the time grew shorter...
Copy !req
458. the road grew narrower...
Copy !req
459. and darker and much more troubled.
Copy !req
460. As Jesus had said before that God
had shown him all things...
Copy !req
461. now God shows him the terrible thing
that's upon him.
Copy !req
462. Jesus wept...
Copy !req
463. at the news of his friend,
Lazarus, dying...
Copy !req
464. from knowing that,
in order for all things to be fulfilled...
Copy !req
465. Lazarus would have to come back
into a world of trouble and sin...
Copy !req
466. and would have to suffer and die again.
Copy !req
467. Jesus said to his disciples...
Copy !req
468. "Now, I've told you before
that I will die and be resurrected...
Copy !req
469. "and my time is near.
Copy !req
470. "For in two days
is the feast of the Passover...
Copy !req
471. and at that time I am to be
betrayed and crucified."
Copy !req
472. Concerning some of his prophecies...
Copy !req
473. on his death, resurrection
and his second coming...
Copy !req
474. the disciples ask him,
"Master, when will these things be?"
Copy !req
475. And Jesus said...
Copy !req
476. "Don't let any man deceive you.
Copy !req
477. "Many shall come in my name, saying,
'I am the messiah, the Christ'...
Copy !req
478. "and shall deceive many.
Copy !req
479. "You shall hear of wars and rumors of wars,
but don't be troubled...
Copy !req
480. "for all these things
must come to pass...
Copy !req
481. "and the end is not yet.
Copy !req
482. "For nation shall rise against nation
and kingdom against kingdom.
Copy !req
483. "There shall be famines,
pestilence, earthquakes.
Copy !req
484. "These are only
the beginnings of sorrow.
Copy !req
485. "And they shall deliver you up
to be afflicted and shall kill you...
Copy !req
486. "and you shall be hated
of all nations for my sake.
Copy !req
487. "And many shall be offended
and shall betray each other.
Copy !req
488. "Many false prophets shall rise
and deceive many.
Copy !req
489. "Iniquity shall abound.
Copy !req
490. "Love of many good men shall wax cold.
Copy !req
491. But he that endures to the end
shall be saved."
Copy !req
492. And Jesus said,
"A new commandment I give to you...
Copy !req
493. "that you love one another
as I have loved you.
Copy !req
494. "And this gospel of the kingdom
shall be preached in all the world...
Copy !req
495. "for a witness to all nations...
Copy !req
496. "and then shall the end come.
Copy !req
497. "For here is the way that I shall come.
Copy !req
498. "As the lightning
shines out of the east...
Copy !req
499. "and goes all the way to the west...
Copy !req
500. "so shall be the coming
of the Son of man.
Copy !req
501. "Heaven and earth shall pass away...
Copy !req
502. "but my words shall not pass away.
Copy !req
503. What hour I return, no man knows.
Only my father knows."
Copy !req
504. The Prince of Peace...
Copy !req
505. comes riding on the back
of a borrowed donkey...
Copy !req
506. - and they would make him a king.
Copy !req
507. "But my kingdom is not of this world, "
he said.
Copy !req
508. The high priest said, "Rebuke your followers,
carpenter, for saying things like that!"
Copy !req
509. Jesus said...
Copy !req
510. "If the people keep quiet...
Copy !req
511. the stones along the road
will praise me."
Copy !req
512. But then, as Jesus entered on into the city,
he began to weep.
Copy !req
513. "Jerusalem, O Jerusalem...
Copy !req
514. "eternal peace was within your reach...
Copy !req
515. "and you turned it down.
Copy !req
516. "You've rejected the opportunity
God has given you.
Copy !req
517. Your enemies will destroy you."
Copy !req
518. Jesus wept
tears of sadness amid the joy...
Copy !req
519. tears for mankind and its weakness...
Copy !req
520. tears for the pain that mankind
would suffer in its ignorance.
Copy !req
521. One final time now,
Jesus had challenged authority in the temple.
Copy !req
522. He overturns the moneychangers' stalls.
Copy !req
523. And again they test his wisdom.
Copy !req
524. They say, "Master, is it lawful
to give tribute to Caesar or not?"
Copy !req
525. And Jesus takes a Roman coin and he says,
"Whose image is this?"
Copy !req
526. And they say, "Caesar's."
Copy !req
527. And Jesus says...
Copy !req
528. "Render unto Caesar
the things that are Caesar's...
Copy !req
529. and unto God
the things that are God's."
Copy !req
530. They sat down to share,
in a little room upstairs...
Copy !req
531. the Passover feast
of the unleavened bread.
Copy !req
532. And Jesus said, "Verily, I say...
Copy !req
533. one of you will betray."
Copy !req
534. And the friends of Jesus
answered and said...
Copy !req
535. "Lord, is it I?
Copy !req
536. Is it I?"
Copy !req
537. Jesus said, "This bread is my body.
Copy !req
538. "I am the bread of life...
Copy !req
539. "and this cup is my blood
of the new testament...
Copy !req
540. "which is shed
for the remission of sins.
Copy !req
541. "This do in remembrance of me.
Copy !req
542. "Yet after I go,
before the cock crows...
Copy !req
543. someone will deny knowing me."
Copy !req
544. Will one of us be ashamed
to mention your sweet name?
Copy !req
545. And Jesus said...
Copy !req
546. "Let not your heart be troubled.
Copy !req
547. "You believe in God.
Believe also in me.
Copy !req
548. "In my father's house
are many mansions.
Copy !req
549. "If it were not so,
I would have told you.
Copy !req
550. "I go to prepare a place for you...
Copy !req
551. "and if I go
and prepare a place for you...
Copy !req
552. "I will come again
and receive you unto myself...
Copy !req
553. that where I am there ye may be also."
Copy !req
554. And now he's alone...
Copy !req
555. completely alone.
Copy !req
556. And the ones who loved him
and stood behind him...
Copy !req
557. are now in the background...
Copy !req
558. out of the way of those
who cry for his death.
Copy !req
559. And this sacrifice
is not to be for mother...
Copy !req
560. not for family, not for country.
Copy !req
561. This death is for all of us,
for all people, for all time.
Copy !req
562. And he's preordained
to suffer it alone...
Copy !req
563. and he knows it only too well.
Copy !req
564. A t a place called Gethsemane...
Copy !req
565. where he had often gone alone
to pray and meditate...
Copy !req
566. now he went with his disciples
following him.
Copy !req
567. A t a certain point he told them
to stay and watch and pray...
Copy !req
568. and he went off alone.
Copy !req
569. You know, we can't forget the fact
that Jesus was human.
Copy !req
570. And in agony in Gethsemane he prays...
Copy !req
571. "Father, if it be possible,
let this cup of death pass from me.
Copy !req
572. "But if the only way that this cup will pass
is that I drink it...
Copy !req
573. then not my will but thine be done."
Copy !req
574. The crowd of people that cheered him...
Copy !req
575. have become a mob now.
Copy !req
576. - He has been charged with blasphemy.
Copy !req
577. He stands before three men who represent
all his worldly opposition—
Copy !req
578. before Caiaphas, the high priest,
he is condemned...
Copy !req
579. before Pilate,
who has the final authority...
Copy !req
580. and before Herod, the puppet king...
Copy !req
581. and back to Pilate,
the Roman procurator...
Copy !req
582. who sentences him.
Copy !req
583. - The crowd cries for his death.
Copy !req
584. And in the face of authority,
he never backs down.
Copy !req
585. He answers,
"I am the Christ. I am the Son of God."
Copy !req
586. And Jesus said...
Copy !req
587. "Father, forgive them...
Copy !req
588. for they know not what they do."
Copy !req
589. And Jesus said to his mother...
Copy !req
590. "Woman, behold your son."
Copy !req
591. And two thieves
were crucified with Jesus...
Copy !req
592. one on his right and one on his left.
Copy !req
593. To one of them, who believed on him...
Copy !req
594. he said...
Copy !req
595. "This day shall you be with me...
Copy !req
596. in paradise."
Copy !req
597. And Jesus said...
Copy !req
598. "It is finished."
Copy !req
599. Surely this man was the Son of God.
Copy !req
600. And Jesus had said,
"When I am lifted up on the cross...
Copy !req
601. I will draw all men unto me."
Copy !req
602. And as he prophesied...
Copy !req
603. for three days and nights
he was in the tomb...
Copy !req
604. and Mary Magdalene came each morning.
Copy !req
605. And on the third morning when Mary came—
"Mary, why do you weep?"
Copy !req
606. They—They have taken away my Lord...
Copy !req
607. and I know not
where they have laid him.
Copy !req
608. "He is not here, for he has risen.
Copy !req
609. "Go into Galilee.
Copy !req
610. "Tell the disciples and Simon Peter...
Copy !req
611. "that he has risen.
Copy !req
612. Go there, and you will find him."
Copy !req
613. Peter!
Copy !req
614. Peter!
Copy !req
615. Peter!
Copy !req
616. Peter!
Copy !req
617. And for 40 days after his resurrection,
Jesus walked upon the Earth.
Copy !req
618. And Jesus said...
Copy !req
619. "All power is given unto me...
Copy !req
620. "in heaven and in earth.
Copy !req
621. "Go and teach all nations...
Copy !req
622. "baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost...
Copy !req
623. "teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you.
Copy !req
624. "And I am with you always...
Copy !req
625. even unto the end of the world."
Copy !req
