1. Rachel, let me see.Copy !req
2. - Can I see?
- Finders keepers. And I found it.Copy !req
3. In my garden.Copy !req
4. Finders keepers.Copy !req
5. Bruce?Copy !req
6. Bruce?Copy !req
7. Mom! Mr. Alfred!Copy !req
8. Did you have dream?Copy !req
9. Nightmare.Copy !req
10. Worse than this place?Copy !req
11. They are going to fight you.Copy !req
12. - Again?
- Until they kill you.Copy !req
13. Can they kill me before breakfast?Copy !req
14. You are in hell, little man.Copy !req
15. And I am the devil.Copy !req
16. You're not the devil.Copy !req
17. You're practice.Copy !req
18. Solitary.Copy !req
19. - Why?
- For protection.Copy !req
20. - I don't need protection.
- Protection for them.Copy !req
21. Get in.Copy !req
22. Are you so
desperate to fight criminals...Copy !req
23. that you lock yourself in
to take them on one at a time?Copy !req
24. Actually, there were seven of them.Copy !req
25. I counted six, Mr. Wayne.Copy !req
26. How do you know my name?Copy !req
27. The world is too small for someone
like Bruce Wayne to disappear...Copy !req
28. no matter how deep
he chooses to sink.Copy !req
29. Who are you?Copy !req
30. My name is merely Ducard,
but I speak for Ra's al Ghul...Copy !req
31. a man greatly feared
by the criminal underworld.Copy !req
32. A man who can offer you a path.Copy !req
33. What makes you think I need a path?Copy !req
34. Someone like you
is only here by choice.Copy !req
35. You have been exploring
the criminal fraternity...Copy !req
36. but whatever
your original intentions...Copy !req
37. you have become truly lost.Copy !req
38. And what path can Ra's al Ghul offer?Copy !req
39. The path of a man
who shares his hatred of evil...Copy !req
40. and wishes to serve true justice.Copy !req
41. The path of the League of Shadows.Copy !req
42. - You're vigilantes.
- No, no, no.Copy !req
43. A vigilante is just a man lost in
the scramble for his own gratification.Copy !req
44. He can be destroyed or locked up.Copy !req
45. But if you make yourself more
than just a man...Copy !req
46. if you devote yourself to an ideal...Copy !req
47. and if they can't stop you...Copy !req
48. then you become
something else entirely.Copy !req
49. Which is?Copy !req
50. Legend, Mr. Wayne.Copy !req
51. Tomorrow, you will be released.Copy !req
52. If you are bored of brawling with thieves
and want to achieve something...Copy !req
53. there is a rare blue flower
that grows on the eastern slopes.Copy !req
54. Pick one of these flowers.Copy !req
55. If you can carry it
to the top of the mountain...Copy !req
56. you may find what you were
looking for in the first place.Copy !req
57. And what was I looking for?Copy !req
58. Only you can know that.Copy !req
59. You turn back. You go back.Copy !req
60. Ra's al Ghul?Copy !req
61. Wait.Copy !req
62. What are you seeking?Copy !req
63. I seek...Copy !req
64. the means to fight injustice.Copy !req
65. To turn fear...Copy !req
66. against those
who prey on the fearful.Copy !req
67. To manipulate the fears in others...Copy !req
68. you must first master your own.Copy !req
69. Are you ready to begin?Copy !req
70. I can... I can barely stand.Copy !req
71. Death does not wait
for you to be ready!Copy !req
72. Death is not considerate or fair!Copy !req
73. And make no mistake,
here you face death.Copy !req
74. Tiger.Copy !req
75. Jujitsu.Copy !req
76. Panther.Copy !req
77. You're skilled. But this is not a dance.Copy !req
78. And you are afraid.Copy !req
79. But not of me.Copy !req
80. Tell us, Mr. Wayne...Copy !req
81. what do you fear?Copy !req
82. Bruce?Copy !req
83. It's okay. It's okay.Copy !req
84. You'll be okay.Copy !req
85. Will we be needing
an ambulance, Master Wayne?Copy !req
86. No, I'll set the bone
and take him for an x-ray later.Copy !req
87. Very good, sir.Copy !req
88. - I'm very sorry, sir. I've told...
- Don't worry. It's fine.Copy !req
89. Took quite a fall,
didn't we, Master Bruce?Copy !req
90. And why do we fall?Copy !req
91. So we can learn to pick ourselves up.Copy !req
92. Just a little fall.
It's just a small fracture.Copy !req
93. The bats again?Copy !req
94. You know why they attacked you,
don't you?Copy !req
95. - They were afraid of you.
- Afraid of me?Copy !req
96. All creatures feel fear.Copy !req
97. Even the scary ones?Copy !req
98. Especially the scary ones.Copy !req
99. I got something to show you.Copy !req
100. - You think your mother will like them?
- Yeah.Copy !req
101. - I think it's time to get up.
- Maybe.Copy !req
102. No going back to bed.Copy !req
103. Did you build this train, Dad?Copy !req
104. Gotham's been good to our family,
but the city's been suffering.Copy !req
105. People less fortunate than us
have been enduring very hard times.Copy !req
106. So we built a new, cheap, public
transportation system to unite the city.Copy !req
107. And at the center...Copy !req
108. Wayne Tower.Copy !req
109. Is that where you work?
- No, I work at the hospital.Copy !req
110. I leave the running of our company
to much better men.Copy !req
111. - Better?
- Well...Copy !req
112. more interested men.Copy !req
113. Can we go?Copy !req
114. Please.Copy !req
115. Okay. Let's go.Copy !req
116. - What's wrong, Bruce?
- No, no. It was me.Copy !req
117. I just needed some fresh air.Copy !req
118. A little bit of opera goes a long way.
Right, Bruce?Copy !req
119. Come on. Let's go.Copy !req
120. Wallets, jewelry. Come on, fast.Copy !req
121. - That's fine.
- Fast.Copy !req
122. Take it easy.Copy !req
123. Take it easy.Copy !req
124. Here you go.Copy !req
125. It's fine. It's fine.Copy !req
126. Now just take it and goCopy !req
127. - I said, jewelry.
- Hey...Copy !req
128. Thomas!Copy !req
129. Bruce.Copy !req
130. It's okay.Copy !req
131. Don't be afraid.Copy !req
132. Is this your father's?Copy !req
133. It's okay.Copy !req
134. Come here.Copy !req
135. There you go.Copy !req
136. It's okay.Copy !req
137. It's okay.Copy !req
138. Gordon.Copy !req
139. Hey.Copy !req
140. Good news.Copy !req
141. We got him, son.Copy !req
142. You're in excellent hands.Copy !req
143. We'll be watching the empire.Copy !req
144. When you grow up,
it'll be waiting for you.Copy !req
145. I thought I might prepare a little supper.Copy !req
146. - Very well.
- Alfred?Copy !req
147. - Yes, Master Bruce?
- It was my fault, Alfred.Copy !req
148. - I made them leave the theater.
- No.Copy !req
149. - If I hadn't gotten scared...
- It was nothing that you did.Copy !req
150. It was him, and him alone.Copy !req
151. Do you understand?Copy !req
152. I miss them, Alfred.
I miss them so much.Copy !req
153. So do I, Master Bruce.Copy !req
154. So do I.Copy !req
155. And do you still feel
responsible for your parents' death?Copy !req
156. My anger outweighs my guilt.Copy !req
157. Come.Copy !req
158. You have learned to bury
your guilt with anger.Copy !req
159. I will teach you to confront it
and to face the truth.Copy !req
160. You know how to fight six men.
We can teach you how to engage 600.Copy !req
161. You know how to disappear.Copy !req
162. We can teach you
to become truly invisible.Copy !req
163. Invisible?Copy !req
164. The ninja understands that invisibility
is a matter of patience and agility.Copy !req
165. Always mind your surroundings.Copy !req
166. Ninjitsu employs explosive powders.Copy !req
167. - As weapons?
- Or distractions.Copy !req
168. Theatricality and deception
are powerful agents.Copy !req
169. You must become more than just a man
in the mind of your opponent.Copy !req
170. Who is he?
- He was a farmer.Copy !req
171. Then he tried to take his neighbor's land
and became a murderer.Copy !req
172. - Now he is a prisoner.
- What'll happen to him?Copy !req
173. Justice. Crime cannot be tolerated.Copy !req
174. Criminals thrive on the indulgence
of society's understanding.Copy !req
175. Your parents' death was not your fault.Copy !req
176. It was your father's.Copy !req
177. Anger does not change the fact
that your father failed to act.Copy !req
178. - The man had a gun.
- Would that stop you?Copy !req
179. I've had training.Copy !req
180. The training is nothing!Copy !req
181. Will is everything!Copy !req
182. The will to act.Copy !req
183. Yield.Copy !req
184. You haven't beaten me.Copy !req
185. You have sacrificed sure footing
for a killing stroke.Copy !req
186. Rub your chest.Copy !req
187. Your arms will take care of themselves.Copy !req
188. You are stronger than your father.Copy !req
189. You didn't know my father.Copy !req
190. But I know the rage that drives you.Copy !req
191. That impossible anger
strangling the grief...Copy !req
192. until the memory
of your loved one is just...Copy !req
193. poison in your veins.Copy !req
194. And one day, you catch yourself wishing
the person you loved had never existed...Copy !req
195. so you'd be spared your pain.Copy !req
196. I wasn't always here in the mountains.Copy !req
197. Once, I had a wife.Copy !req
198. My great love.Copy !req
199. She was taken from me.Copy !req
200. Like you, I was forced to learn
there are those without decency...Copy !req
201. who must be fought
without hesitation, without pity.Copy !req
202. Your anger gives you great power.Copy !req
203. But if you let it, it will destroy you...Copy !req
204. as it almost did me.Copy !req
205. - What stopped it?
- Vengeance.Copy !req
206. That's no help to me.Copy !req
207. Why, Bruce?Copy !req
208. Why could you not
avenge your parents?Copy !req
209. Will you be heading back to Princeton
after the hearing, sir...Copy !req
210. or can I persuade you to stay on
for a day or two?Copy !req
211. I'm not heading back at all.Copy !req
212. You don't like it there?
- I like it fine.Copy !req
213. They just don't feel the same way.Copy !req
214. - I've prepared the master bedroom.
- No.Copy !req
215. My room will be fine.Copy !req
216. With all due respect, sir,
Wayne Manor is your house.Copy !req
217. No, Alfred, it's my father's house.Copy !req
218. - Your father is dead.
- This place is a mausoleum.Copy !req
219. If I have my way, I'll pull
the damn thing down brick by brick.Copy !req
220. This house, Master Wayne, has sheltered
six generations of your family.Copy !req
221. Why do you give a damn, Alfred?
It's not your family.Copy !req
222. I give a damn because a good man
once made me responsible...Copy !req
223. for what was most precious to him...Copy !req
224. in the whole world.Copy !req
225. Miss Dawes has offered
to drive you to the hearing.Copy !req
226. She probably hopes
to talk you out of going.Copy !req
227. Should I just bury the past
out there with my parents, Alfred?Copy !req
228. I wouldn't presume to tell you
what to do with your past, sir.Copy !req
229. Just know that there are those of us who
care about what you do with your future.Copy !req
230. Haven't given up on me yet?Copy !req
231. Never.Copy !req
232. Alfred still keeps the condensed milk
on the top shelf.Copy !req
233. Hasn't he noticed
you're tall enough to reach now?Copy !req
234. Old habits die hard, I guess.Copy !req
235. - Never used to stop us anyway.
- No, it didn't.Copy !req
236. How's your mom?Copy !req
237. She misses this place.Copy !req
238. So do I.Copy !req
239. Yeah.Copy !req
240. But it's nothing without the people
who made it what it was.Copy !req
241. - Now there's only Alfred.
- And you.Copy !req
242. - I'm not staying, Rachel.
- You're just back for the hearing.Copy !req
243. Bruce, I don't suppose there's any way
to convince you not to come.Copy !req
244. Someone at this proceeding...Copy !req
245. should stand for my parents.Copy !req
246. We all loved your parents, Bruce.Copy !req
247. - What Chill did is unforgivable.
- Then why is your boss letting him go?Copy !req
248. In prison, he shared a cell
with Carmine Falcone.Copy !req
249. He learned things, and he will testify
in exchange for early parole.Copy !req
250. Rachel, this man killed my parents.Copy !req
251. I cannot let that pass.Copy !req
252. And I need you
to understand that, please.Copy !req
253. Okay.Copy !req
254. The depression hit working
people, like Mr. Chill, hardest of all.Copy !req
255. His crime was appalling, yes,
but it was motivated not by greed...Copy !req
256. but by desperation.Copy !req
257. Given the 14 years served, as well as
his extraordinary level of cooperation...Copy !req
258. with one of this office's
most important investigations...Copy !req
259. we strongly endorse his petition
for early release.Copy !req
260. Mr. Chill?Copy !req
261. Your Honor...Copy !req
262. not a day goes by that I don't wish
I could take back what I did.Copy !req
263. Sure, I was desperate,
like a lot of people back then...Copy !req
264. but that don't change what I did.Copy !req
265. I gather there is a member
of the Wayne family here today.Copy !req
266. Has he got anything to say?Copy !req
267. - He's coming out the side!
- He's coming out the side, guys!Copy !req
268. Bruce Wayne!Copy !req
269. Joe! Hey, Joe!Copy !req
270. Falcone says hi.Copy !req
271. Come on, Bruce.Copy !req
272. We don't need to see this.Copy !req
273. I do.Copy !req
274. The DA couldn't understand
why Judge Faden insisted...Copy !req
275. on making the hearing public.Copy !req
276. Falcone paid him off
to get Chill out in the open.Copy !req
277. Maybe I should thank them.Copy !req
278. - You don't mean that.
- What if I do, Rachel?Copy !req
279. My parents deserved justice.Copy !req
280. You're not talking about justice.
You're talking about revenge.Copy !req
281. - Sometimes, they're the same.
- No, they're never the same.Copy !req
282. Justice is about harmony. Revenge is
about you making yourself feel better.Copy !req
283. - It's why we have an impartial system.
- Your system is broken.Copy !req
284. You care about justice?
Look beyond your own pain, Bruce.Copy !req
285. This city is rotting.Copy !req
286. They talk about the depression
as if it's history. It's not.Copy !req
287. Things are worse than ever here.Copy !req
288. Falcone floods our streets
with crime and drugs...Copy !req
289. preying on the desperate,
creating new Joe Chills every day.Copy !req
290. Falcone may not have killed
your parents, Bruce...Copy !req
291. but he's destroying everything
that they stood for.Copy !req
292. You wanna thank him for that?
Here you go.Copy !req
293. We all know where to find him.
As long as he keeps the bad people rich...Copy !req
294. and the good people scared,
no one'll touch him.Copy !req
295. Good people like your parents, who'll
stand against injustice, they're gone.Copy !req
296. What chance does Gotham have
when the good people do nothing?Copy !req
297. - I'm not one of your good people, Rachel.
- What do you mean?Copy !req
298. All these years, I wanted to kill him.Copy !req
299. Now I can't.Copy !req
300. Your father would be ashamed of you.Copy !req
301. You're taller than you look
in the tabloids, Mr. Wayne.Copy !req
302. No gun? I'm insulted.Copy !req
303. - You could've just sent a thank-you note.
- I didn't come here to thank you.Copy !req
304. I came to show you that
not everyone in Gotham's afraid of you.Copy !req
305. Only those who know me, kid.Copy !req
306. Look around you.
You'll see two councilmen...Copy !req
307. a union official,
couple off-duty cops...Copy !req
308. and a judge.Copy !req
309. I wouldn't have a second's hesitation of
blowing your head off in front of them.Copy !req
310. Now, that's power you can't buy.Copy !req
311. That's the power of fear.Copy !req
312. I'm not afraid of you.Copy !req
313. Because you think you got
nothing to lose.Copy !req
314. But you haven't thought it through.Copy !req
315. You haven't thought about
your lady friend in the DA's office.Copy !req
316. You haven't thought about
your old butler. Bang!Copy !req
317. People from your world...Copy !req
318. have so much to lose.Copy !req
319. Now, you think because your mommy
and your daddy got shot...Copy !req
320. you know about the ugly side of life,
but you don't.Copy !req
321. You've never tasted desperate.Copy !req
322. You're... You're Bruce Wayne,
the prince of Gotham.Copy !req
323. You'd have to go 1000 miles to meet
someone who didn't know your name.Copy !req
324. So don't come here with your anger,
trying to prove something to yourself.Copy !req
325. This is a world you'll never understand.Copy !req
326. And you always fear...Copy !req
327. what you don't understand.Copy !req
328. All right.Copy !req
329. Yeah, you got spirit, kid.
I'll give you that.Copy !req
330. More than your old man anyway.Copy !req
331. In the joint, Chill told me about
the night he killed your parents.Copy !req
332. He said your father begged for mercy.Copy !req
333. Begged.Copy !req
334. Like a dog.Copy !req
335. Should've tipped better.Copy !req
336. - For what?
- Your jacket.Copy !req
337. Okay.Copy !req
338. Hey, hey, hey. Let me have it.
It's a nice coat.Copy !req
339. Be careful who sees you with that.Copy !req
340. - They're gonna come looking for me.
- Who?Copy !req
341. Everyone.Copy !req
342. It's...Copy !req
343. It's a nice coat.Copy !req
344. When you lived among
the criminals, did you start to pity them?Copy !req
345. The first time I stole
so that I wouldn't starve, yes.Copy !req
346. I lost many assumptions about
the simple nature of right and wrong.Copy !req
347. And when I traveled...Copy !req
348. I learned the fear before a crime...Copy !req
349. and the thrill of success.Copy !req
350. But I never became one of them.Copy !req
351. Fool. What do I care
what your name is? You're a criminal.Copy !req
352. I'm not a criminalCopy !req
353. Tell that to the guy who owned these.Copy !req
354. You've traveled the world
to understand the criminal mind...Copy !req
355. and conquer your fears.Copy !req
356. But a criminal is not complicated.Copy !req
357. And what you really fear
is inside yourself.Copy !req
358. You fear your own power.Copy !req
359. You fear your anger...Copy !req
360. the drive to do great
or terrible things.Copy !req
361. Now you must journey inwardsCopy !req
362. You are ready.Copy !req
363. Breathe.Copy !req
364. Breathe.Copy !req
365. Breathe in your fears.Copy !req
366. Face them.Copy !req
367. To conquer fear,
you must become fear.Copy !req
368. You must bask in the fear
of other men.Copy !req
369. And men fear most
what they cannot see.Copy !req
370. You have to become a terrible thought.Copy !req
371. A wraith.Copy !req
372. You have to become an idea!Copy !req
373. Feel terror cloud your senses.Copy !req
374. Feel its power to distort.Copy !req
375. To control.Copy !req
376. And know that this power
can be yours.Copy !req
377. Embrace your worst fear.Copy !req
378. Become one with the darkness.Copy !req
379. Focus.Copy !req
380. Concentrate.Copy !req
381. Master your senses.Copy !req
382. You cannot leave any sign.Copy !req
383. I haven't.Copy !req
384. Impressive.Copy !req
385. We have purged your fear.Copy !req
386. You are ready to lead these men.Copy !req
387. You are ready to become a member
of the League of Shadows.Copy !req
388. But first, you must demonstrate
your commitment to justice.Copy !req
389. No.Copy !req
390. I'm no executioner.Copy !req
391. Your compassion is
a weakness your enemies will not share.Copy !req
392. That's why it's so important.Copy !req
393. It separates us from them.Copy !req
394. You want to fight criminals.
This man is a murderer.Copy !req
395. - This man should be tried.
- By whom?Copy !req
396. Corrupt bureaucrats?Copy !req
397. Criminals mock society's laws.Copy !req
398. You know this better than most.Copy !req
399. You cannot lead these men...Copy !req
400. unless you are prepared to do
what is necessary to defeat evil.Copy !req
401. And where would I be leading
these men?Copy !req
402. Gotham.Copy !req
403. As Gotham's favored son...Copy !req
404. you will be ideally placed
to strike at the heart of criminality.Copy !req
405. - How?
- Gotham's time has come.Copy !req
406. Like Constantinople or Rome before it...Copy !req
407. the city has become a breeding ground
for suffering and injustice.Copy !req
408. It is beyond saving
and must be allowed to die.Copy !req
409. This is the most important function
of the League of Shadows.Copy !req
410. It is one we've performed for centuries.Copy !req
411. Gotham...Copy !req
412. must be destroyed.Copy !req
413. You can't believe in this.Copy !req
414. Ra's al Ghul rescued us from
the darkest corners of our own hearts.Copy !req
415. What he asks in return is the courage
to do what is necessary.Copy !req
416. I will go back to Gotham
and I will fight men like this...Copy !req
417. but I will not become an executioner.Copy !req
418. Bruce, please.Copy !req
419. For your own sake,
there is no turning back.Copy !req
420. - What are you doing?
- What's necessary, my friend.Copy !req
421. I will tell him you saved his life.Copy !req
422. Master Wayne,
you've been gone a long time.Copy !req
423. - Yes, I have.
- You look very fashionable.Copy !req
424. Apart from the mud.Copy !req
425. Are you coming back to Gotham
for long, sir'?Copy !req
426. As long as it takes.Copy !req
427. I want to show the people...Copy !req
428. their city doesn't belong
to the criminals and the corrupt.Copy !req
429. In the depression, your father nearly
bankrupted Wayne Enterprises...Copy !req
430. combating poverty.Copy !req
431. He believed his example could inspire
the wealthy of Gotham to save their city.Copy !req
432. Did it?Copy !req
433. In a way.Copy !req
434. Their murder shocked the wealthy
and the powerful into action.Copy !req
435. People need dramatic examples
to shake them out of apathy.Copy !req
436. I can't do that as Bruce Wayne.Copy !req
437. As a man...Copy !req
438. I'm flesh and blood,
I can be ignored, destroyed.Copy !req
439. But as a symbol...Copy !req
440. As a symbol, I can be incorruptible.Copy !req
441. - I can be everlasting.
- What symbol?Copy !req
442. Something elemental...Copy !req
443. something terrifying.Copy !req
444. I assume that as you take on
the underworld...Copy !req
445. this symbol is a persona to protect
those you care about from reprisals?Copy !req
446. You're thinking about Rachel?Copy !req
447. Actually, sir, I was thinking of myself.Copy !req
448. Have you told anyone I'm coming back?Copy !req
449. I couldn't figure the legal ramifications
of bringing you back from the dead.Copy !req
450. - Dead?
- You've been gone seven years.Copy !req
451. You had me declared dead?Copy !req
452. Actually, it was Mr. Earle.
He's taking the company public.Copy !req
453. He wanted to liquidate
your majority shareholding.Copy !req
454. Those shares are worth
quite a bit of money.Copy !req
455. Well, it's a good thing
I left everything to you, then.Copy !req
456. Quite so, sir.Copy !req
457. And you can borrow the Rolls, if you like.
Just bring it back with a full tank.Copy !req
458. In my opinion, Mr. Zsaz is as much
a danger to himself as to others...Copy !req
459. and prison is probably not the best
environment for his rehabilitation.Copy !req
460. - Dr. Crane.
- Miss Dawes.Copy !req
461. You think a man who butchers people
for the mob doesn't belong in jail?Copy !req
462. I would hardly have testified to that
otherwise, would I?Copy !req
463. This is the third of Falcone's thugs
you've had declared insane...Copy !req
464. and moved into your asylum.Copy !req
465. The work offered by organized crime
must have an attraction to the insane.Copy !req
466. Or the corrupt.Copy !req
467. Mr. Finch.Copy !req
468. You should check
with Miss Dawes here...Copy !req
469. just what implications your office
has authorized her to make. If any.Copy !req
470. - What are you doing?
- What are you doing, Carl?Copy !req
471. Looking out for you.Copy !req
472. Falcone has half the city
bought and paid for.Copy !req
473. - Drop it.
- How can you say that?Copy !req
474. Because as much as I care about
getting Falcone, I care more about you.Copy !req
475. That's sweet.Copy !req
476. We've been through all that.Copy !req
477. Blessed bat again, sir.Copy !req
478. They nest somewhere in the grounds.Copy !req
479. No more favors.
Someone is sniffing around.Copy !req
480. Hey, I scratch your back,
you scratch mine, doc.Copy !req
481. I'm bringing in the shipments.Copy !req
482. We are paying you for that.Copy !req
483. Maybe money isn't as interesting
to me as favors.Copy !req
484. I am more than aware that you are
not intimidated by me, Mr. Falcone.Copy !req
485. But you know who I'm working for,
and when he gets here...Copy !req
486. He... He's coming to Gotham?Copy !req
487. Yes, he is.Copy !req
488. And when he gets here,
he's not going to wanna hear...Copy !req
489. that you've endangered our operation
just to get your thugs out of jail time.Copy !req
490. - Who's bothering you?
- There's a girl at the DA's office.Copy !req
491. - We'll buy her off.
- Not this one.Copy !req
492. Idealist, huh?Copy !req
493. Well, there's an answer to that too.Copy !req
494. - I don't want to know.
- Yes, you do.Copy !req
495. No, we are showing
very healthy growth in these sectors.Copy !req
496. I don't think Thomas Wayne would have
viewed heavy-arms manufacture...Copy !req
497. as a suitable cornerstone
for our business.Copy !req
498. Well, that's 20 years ago, Fredericks.Copy !req
499. I think after 20 years
we can allow ourselves...Copy !req
500. to stop thinking about what
Thomas Wayne would have done.Copy !req
501. Good morning, Mr. Earle's office.Copy !req
502. Yes, he's confirmed for
the dinner tomorrow evening.Copy !req
503. Good morning.
I'm here to see Mr. Earle.Copy !req
504. Name?Copy !req
505. Bruce Wayne.Copy !req
506. Thomas would probably not
have taken the company public.Copy !req
507. But that is what we,
as responsible managers, are going to do.Copy !req
508. Jessica?Copy !req
509. Jessica? Where are you?Copy !req
510. Eye on the ball, and...
- Why is no one answering the phone?Copy !req
511. It's Wayne Enterprises, Mr. Earle.
I'm sure they'll call back.Copy !req
512. Bruce? You're supposed to be dead.Copy !req
513. I'm sorry to disappoint.Copy !req
514. - I need you to take a look at this.
- Have you seen him yet?Copy !req
515. - Who?
- Wayne.Copy !req
516. It's been all over the news.
He's back.Copy !req
517. I'm sure you realize
I can't stop the big machine.Copy !req
518. Too many wheels turning.Copy !req
519. - We're going public.
- I understand.Copy !req
520. And I'll be handsomely rewarded
for my shares.Copy !req
521. I'm not looking to interfere.Copy !req
522. - I am looking for a job.
- Oh?Copy !req
523. I just want to get to know the company
that my family built.Copy !req
524. Any ideas where you would start?Copy !req
525. Applied Sciences caught my eye.Copy !req
526. Fox's department.Copy !req
527. I'll let him know you're coming.Copy !req
528. You look like him. Your dad.Copy !req
529. You're the only one left
of the Wayne family.Copy !req
530. This is where you belong.
Welcome home.Copy !req
531. Environmental procedures,
defense projects, consumer products.Copy !req
532. All prototypes. None in production.Copy !req
533. - On any level whatsoever.
- None?Copy !req
534. What did they tell you this place was?Copy !req
535. They didn't tell me anything.Copy !req
536. Earle told me exactly what it was
when he sent me down here.Copy !req
537. Dead end.Copy !req
538. Place to keep me from causing
the board any more trouble.Copy !req
539. Come on.Copy !req
540. - You were on the board?
- When your father ran things.Copy !req
541. - You knew my father?
- Oh, yeah.Copy !req
542. Helped him build his train.Copy !req
543. Here we are.Copy !req
544. Kevlar utility harness.Copy !req
545. Gas-powered, magnetic grapple gun.Copy !req
546. The 350-pound test monofilament.Copy !req
547. Wonderful project, your dad's train.Copy !req
548. Routed it right into Wayne Tower,
along with the water and power utilities.Copy !req
549. Kind of made Wayne Tower
the unofficial center of Gotham City.Copy !req
550. Of course, Earle let it go to rot.
Here we are.Copy !req
551. Nomex survival suit
for advanced infantry.Copy !req
552. Kevlar biweave, reinforced joints.Copy !req
553. - Tear-resistant?
- This sucker will stop a knife.Copy !req
554. - Bulletproof?
- Anything but a straight shot.Copy !req
555. - Why didn't they put it into production?
- Bean counters didn't think...Copy !req
556. a soldier's life was worth 300 grand.Copy !req
557. So, what's your interest in it,
Mr. Wayne?Copy !req
558. I want to borrow it.Copy !req
559. For spelunking.Copy !req
560. Spelunking?Copy !req
561. Yeah, you know, cave diving?Copy !req
562. You expecting to run into
much gunfire in these caves?Copy !req
563. Look, I'd rather Mr. Earle
didn't know about me borrowing...Copy !req
564. Mr. Wayne...Copy !req
565. the way I see it...Copy !req
566. all this stuff is yours anyway.Copy !req
567. Okay. Give it a try.Copy !req
568. Charming.Copy !req
569. At least you'll have company.Copy !req
570. This must be the lowest foundation
of the southeast wing.Copy !req
571. Your great-great-grandfather was
involved in the Underground Railroad...Copy !req
572. secretly transporting freed slaves
to the North...Copy !req
573. and I suspect these caverns
came in handy.Copy !req
574. Alfred! Come up here!Copy !req
575. I can see everything all right
from down here, sir, thank you.Copy !req
576. We order the main part
of this cowl from Singapore.Copy !req
577. Via a dummy corporation.Copy !req
578. Indeed. And then, quite separately...Copy !req
579. we place an order
to a Chinese company for these.Copy !req
580. - Put it together ourselves.
- Precisely.Copy !req
581. They'll have to be large orders,
to avoid suspicion.Copy !req
582. - How large?
- Say 10,000.Copy !req
583. - Well, at least we'll have spares.
- Yes.Copy !req
584. Don't suppose you want a taste.Copy !req
585. I just keep offering,
thinking maybe someday you'll get wise.Copy !req
586. There's nothing wise
in what you do, Flass.Copy !req
587. Well, Jimbo, you don't take the taste,
makes us guys nervous.Copy !req
588. I'm no rat.Copy !req
589. In a town this bent,
who's there to rat to anyway?Copy !req
590. Don't turn around.Copy !req
591. You're a good cop.
One of the few.Copy !req
592. What do you want?Copy !req
593. Carmine Falcone brings
in shipments of drugs every week.Copy !req
594. Nobody takes him down. Why?Copy !req
595. He's paid up with the right people.Copy !req
596. What will it take to bring him down?Copy !req
597. Leverage on Judge Faden...Copy !req
598. and a DA brave enough
to prosecute.Copy !req
599. Rachel Dawes.Copy !req
600. Who are you?Copy !req
601. Watch for my sign.Copy !req
602. You're just one man?Copy !req
603. Now we're two.Copy !req
604. We?Copy !req
605. Freeze!Copy !req
606. What the hell was that?Copy !req
607. Just some nut.Copy !req
608. Well, what is it today?
More spelunking?Copy !req
609. No. Today it's BASE-jumping.Copy !req
610. BASE-jumpingCopy !req
611. - That like parachuting?
- Kind of.Copy !req
612. Do you have any lightweight fabrics?Copy !req
613. You know, I think I have just the thingCopy !req
614. It's called memory cloth.
Notice anything?Copy !req
615. Regularly flexible...Copy !req
616. but put a current through it...Copy !req
617. - ... molecules realign, it becomes rigid.
- What kind of shapes can you make?Copy !req
618. Can be tailored to fit any structure
based on a rigid skeleton.Copy !req
619. Too expensive for the Army?Copy !req
620. I don't think they tried to market it
to the billionaire, BASE-jumping crowd.Copy !req
621. - Look, Mr. Fox.
- Yes, sir?Copy !req
622. If you're uncomfortable...Copy !req
623. Mr. Wayne, if you don't want to tell me
exactly what you're doing...Copy !req
624. when I'm asked, I don't have to lie.Copy !req
625. But don't think of me as an idiot.Copy !req
626. Fair enough.Copy !req
627. What's that?Copy !req
628. The Tumbler?Copy !req
629. Oh, you wouldn't be interested in that.Copy !req
630. She was built as a bridging vehicle.Copy !req
631. During combat, two of these
would jump over a river, towing cables.Copy !req
632. Over here on the throttle,
flip that open and throttle up.Copy !req
633. This will boost you into a rampless jump...
Not now!Copy !req
634. Not... Not now, sir.Copy !req
635. Afterburner disengaged.Copy !req
636. We never could get
the damn bridge to work...Copy !req
637. but this baby works just fine.Copy !req
638. So, what do you think?Copy !req
639. Does it come in black?Copy !req
640. I need you at the docks Thursday.Copy !req
641. - Problems?
- I don't want any trouble...Copy !req
642. - ... with the last shipment.
- Sure.Copy !req
643. Word on the street is you got a beef
with somebody in the DA's office.Copy !req
644. - Is that right?
- And that there's a fat prize...Copy !req
645. waiting for anybody willing
to do anything about it.Copy !req
646. So, what's your point, Mr. Flass?Copy !req
647. Have you seen the girl?Copy !req
648. It's a cute little assistant DA.Copy !req
649. Don't you think that's a little too much
heat to bring down, maybe?Copy !req
650. - Even for this town.
- Never underestimate Gotham City.Copy !req
651. People get mugged coming home
from work every day of the week.Copy !req
652. Sometimes...
Sometimes things just go bad.Copy !req
653. It's a problem with the graphite, sir.Copy !req
654. The next 10,000
will be up to specifications.Copy !req
655. - At least they gave us a discount.
- Quite.Copy !req
656. In the meantime, sir, may I suggest
you try to avoid landing on your head?Copy !req
657. Why bats, Master Wayne?Copy !req
658. Bats frighten me.Copy !req
659. It's time my enemies shared my dread.Copy !req
660. What is this?Copy !req
661. Continue.Copy !req
662. Looks fine out there.Copy !req
663. The bears go straight to the dealers.Copy !req
664. Yeah, and the rabbits go
to the man in the Narrows.Copy !req
665. - What's the difference?
- Ignorance is bliss, my friend.Copy !req
666. Don't burden yourself
with the secrets of scary people.Copy !req
667. Hey. Steiss.Copy !req
668. Steiss?Copy !req
669. What?Copy !req
670. What the...?Copy !req
671. I better check it.Copy !req
672. There's a problem out here.
You better bail.Copy !req
673. Where are you?Copy !req
674. Here.Copy !req
675. Take a ride. Oh, shit.Copy !req
676. What the hell are you?Copy !req
677. I'm Batman.Copy !req
678. Nice coat.Copy !req
679. Thanks.Copy !req
680. Hold it.Copy !req
681. That's right, you better run.Copy !req
682. Falcone sent them to kill you.Copy !req
683. - Why?
- You rattled his cage.Copy !req
684. - What's this?
- Leverage.Copy !req
685. - For what?
- To get things moving.Copy !req
686. Who are you?Copy !req
687. Someone like you.Copy !req
688. Someone who'll rattle the cages.Copy !req
689. Ma'am? Everything okay?Copy !req
690. Falcone's men?
- Does it matter?Copy !req
691. We'll never tie him to it anyway.Copy !req
692. I wouldn't be too sure of that.Copy !req
693. What the hell is that?Copy !req
694. Cut him down.Copy !req
695. Unacceptable.Copy !req
696. Now, I don't care if it's rival gangs,
Guardian Angels...Copy !req
697. or the goddamn Salvation Army...Copy !req
698. get them off the street
and off the front page.Copy !req
699. They say it was just one guy.
Or a creature.Copy !req
700. It was some asshole in a costume.Copy !req
701. - Yeah?
- This guy did deliver us...Copy !req
702. one of the city's biggest crime lords.Copy !req
703. No one takes the law
into their own hands in my city.Copy !req
704. Understand?Copy !req
705. - No way to bury it now.
- There's still Judge Faden.Copy !req
706. - I've got Faden covered.
- What about this bat they babble about?Copy !req
707. Even if these guys will swear
to being thrashed by a giant bat...Copy !req
708. we've got Falcone at the scene.Copy !req
709. Drugs, prints, cargo manifests.
This bat character gave us everything.Copy !req
710. Okay. Let's do it.Copy !req
711. - Bats are nocturnal.
- Bats may be.Copy !req
712. But even for billionaire playboys,
3:00 is pushing it.Copy !req
713. The price for leading a double life,
I fear.Copy !req
714. Your theatrics made an impression.Copy !req
715. Theatricality and deception...Copy !req
716. are powerful weapons, Alfred.
This is a good start.Copy !req
717. If those are to be the first
of many injuries to come...Copy !req
718. it would be wise
to find a suitable excuse.Copy !req
719. Polo, for instance.Copy !req
720. I'm not learning polo, Alfred.Copy !req
721. Strange injuries,
a nonexistent social life.Copy !req
722. These things beg the question...Copy !req
723. as to what exactly does Bruce Wayne
do with his time and his money.Copy !req
724. What does someone like me do?Copy !req
725. Drive sports cars, date movie stars.Copy !req
726. Buy things that are not for sale.Copy !req
727. Who knows, Master Wayne,
you start pretending to have fun...Copy !req
728. you might even have a little
by accident.Copy !req
729. Sir.Copy !req
730. - We have a situation.
- All right.Copy !req
731. The Coast Guard picked up
one of our cargo ships last night...Copy !req
732. heavily damaged, all crew missing,
probably dead.Copy !req
733. The ship was carrying
a prototype weapon.Copy !req
734. It's a microwave emitter.Copy !req
735. It's designed for desert warfare, but it...Copy !req
736. It looks like somebody...Copy !req
737. turned it on.Copy !req
738. It uses focused microwaves to
vaporize the enemy's water supply.Copy !req
739. The damage to the ship
was catastrophic.Copy !req
740. The weapon itself is...Copy !req
741. Missing?Copy !req
742. Yeah.Copy !req
743. Mr. Wayne.Copy !req
744. Nice car.Copy !req
745. You should see my other one.Copy !req
746. He's done something
the police never have.Copy !req
747. You can't take the law
into your own hands.Copy !req
748. Well, at least he's getting
something done.Copy !req
749. Bruce, help me out here.
- Huh?Copy !req
750. Well, a guy who dresses up
like a bat clearly has issues.Copy !req
751. But he's put Falcone behind bars.Copy !req
752. Now the cops want him.
What does that tell you?Copy !req
753. They're jealous.Copy !req
754. Sir, the pool is for decoration...Copy !req
755. and your friends
do not have swimwear.Copy !req
756. Well, they're European.Copy !req
757. I'm going to have to ask you to leave.Copy !req
758. - It is not a question of money.
- Well, you see...Copy !req
759. I'm buying this hotel...Copy !req
760. and setting some new rules
about the pool area.Copy !req
761. I think the Batman deserves a medal.Copy !req
762. And a straitjacket to pin it on.Copy !req
763. Thank you.Copy !req
764. Bruce?Copy !req
765. Rachel?Copy !req
766. I'd heard you were back.Copy !req
767. What are you doing?Copy !req
768. Just swimming here.
Wow, it is good to see you.Copy !req
769. You were gone a long time.Copy !req
770. - I know. How are things?
- The same.Copy !req
771. Job's getting worse.Copy !req
772. Can't change the world on your own.Copy !req
773. What choice do I have...Copy !req
774. when you're too busy swimming?Copy !req
775. Rachel, all of...Copy !req
776. All this...Copy !req
777. it's... It's not me. It's...Copy !req
778. Inside, I am...Copy !req
779. I am more.Copy !req
780. Come on, Bruce. Come on.Copy !req
781. Bruce, we have
some more hotels for you to buy.Copy !req
782. Bruce...Copy !req
783. deep down you may still be
that same great kid you used to be.Copy !req
784. But it's not who you are underneath...Copy !req
785. it's what you do that defines you.Copy !req
786. Dr. Crane, thanks for coming.Copy !req
787. Not at all. He cut his wrists?Copy !req
788. Probably looking for the insanity plea.
But if anything should happen...Copy !req
789. Of course, better safe than sorry.Copy !req
790. Yeah, Dr. Crane, I can't take it anymore.
It's all too much.Copy !req
791. The walls are closing in.
Blah, blah, blah.Copy !req
792. A couple of days of this food,
it'll be true.Copy !req
793. - What do you want?
- I wanna know...Copy !req
794. how you're gonna convince me
to keep my mouth shut.Copy !req
795. About what?
You don't know anything.Copy !req
796. I know you don't want the cops to take
a closer look at the drugs they seized.Copy !req
797. And I know about your experiments
with the inmates of your nut house.Copy !req
798. See, I don't go into business with a guy
without finding out his dirty secrets.Copy !req
799. And those goons you used.Copy !req
800. I own the muscle in this town.Copy !req
801. Now, I've been bringing
your stuff in for months...Copy !req
802. so whatever he's planning,
it's big, and I want in.Copy !req
803. Well, I already know what he'll say.Copy !req
804. That we should kill you.Copy !req
805. Even he can't get me in here.
Not in my town.Copy !req
806. Would you like to see my mask?Copy !req
807. I use it in my experiments.Copy !req
808. Now, I'm probably not very frightening
to a guy like you.Copy !req
809. But these crazies, they can't stand it.Copy !req
810. So when did the nut
take over the nut house?Copy !req
811. They scream and they cry...Copy !req
812. much as you're doing now.Copy !req
813. Well, he's not faking. Not that one.Copy !req
814. I'll talk to the judge
and see if I can get him moved...Copy !req
815. to the secure wing at Arkham.
I can't treat him here.Copy !req
816. Storm's coming.Copy !req
817. The scum is getting jumpy
because you stood up to Falcone.Copy !req
818. It's a start. Your partner
was at the docks with Falcone.Copy !req
819. Well, he moonlights
as a low-level enforcer.Copy !req
820. They were splitting the shipment in two.
Only half went to the dealers.Copy !req
821. Why? What about the other half?Copy !req
822. - Flass knows.
- He won't talk.Copy !req
823. He'll talk to me.Copy !req
824. Commissioner Loeb set up
a massive task force to catch you.Copy !req
825. - He thinks you're dangerous.
- What do you think?Copy !req
826. I think you're trying to help.Copy !req
827. But I've been wrong before.Copy !req
828. Come on, I ain't got all night.Copy !req
829. Flass, I have kids to feed.Copy !req
830. What, they don't like falafel?Copy !req
831. Where were the other drugs going?Copy !req
832. I never knew. I don't know.Copy !req
833. - I swear to God.
- Swear to me!Copy !req
834. I don't... I don't know.
I never knew. Never.Copy !req
835. They went to some guy for a couple days
before they went to the dealers.Copy !req
836. Why?Copy !req
837. There was something...
Something else in the drugs...Copy !req
838. - ... something hidden.
- What?Copy !req
839. I never went to the drop-off point.
It was in the Narrows.Copy !req
840. - Cops only go there in force.
- Do I look like a cop?Copy !req
841. No...!Copy !req
842. This is the one I'm talking about.Copy !req
843. - What's your problem with it?
- It shouldn't exist.Copy !req
844. This ship left Singapore with
246 containers, but arrived with 247.Copy !req
845. I'm guessing there's something
I'm not supposed to find in there.Copy !req
846. Listen, counselor, we don't wanna
know what's in Mr. Falcone's crate.Copy !req
847. Things are working a little
differently now. Open it up.Copy !req
848. What the hell is this?Copy !req
849. It's you, isn't it?
Everybody's been talking about you.Copy !req
850. Get in here!Copy !req
851. The other kids won't believe me.Copy !req
852. Get rid of all traces.Copy !req
853. - Better torch the whole place.
- All right.Copy !req
854. Having trouble?Copy !req
855. Take a seat. Have a drink.Copy !req
856. You look like a man
who takes himself too seriously.Copy !req
857. Do you want my opinion?
You need to lighten up.Copy !req
858. Alfred, help me.Copy !req
859. Blood. Take. Take poison. Blood poison.Copy !req
860. Poisonous. Poisonous.Copy !req
861. Bruce...Copy !req
862. why do we fall?Copy !req
863. - How long was I out?
- Two days.Copy !req
864. It's your birthday.Copy !req
865. Many happy returns.Copy !req
866. I've felt these effects before,
but this was so much more potent.Copy !req
867. It was some kind of hallucinogen,
weaponized, in aerosol form.Copy !req
868. You have been hanging out
in the wrong clubs, Mr. Wayne.Copy !req
869. I called Mr. Fox when your condition
worsened after the first day.Copy !req
870. I analyzed your blood...Copy !req
871. isolating the receptor compounds
and the protein-based catalyst.Copy !req
872. Am I meant to understand any of that?Copy !req
873. Not at all. I just wanted you to know
how hard it was.Copy !req
874. - Bottom line, I synthesized an antidote.
- Could you make more?Copy !req
875. You planning on gassing yourself
again, Mr. Wayne?Copy !req
876. Well, you know how it is.
You're out at night, looking for kicks...Copy !req
877. someone's passing around
the weaponized hallucinogens...Copy !req
878. I'll bring what I have.
The antidote should inoculate you for now.Copy !req
879. Alfred, always a pleasure.Copy !req
880. Lucius.Copy !req
881. - You sure you don't want to come in?
- I have to get back.Copy !req
882. - I wanted to leave this.
- Thank you.Copy !req
883. Rachel?Copy !req
884. Looks like someone's been
burning the candle at both ends.Copy !req
885. - Must've been quite an occasion.
- It is my birthday.Copy !req
886. I know. I'm sorry I can't come tonight.
I was just dropping off your present.Copy !req
887. - You've got better plans?
- My boss has been missing for days...Copy !req
888. which means I should
probably start by looking...Copy !req
889. - ... at the bottom of the river.
- Rachel.Copy !req
890. Excuse me.Copy !req
891. Rachel Dawes.Copy !req
892. Who authorized that? Get Crane down
there now. Don't take no for an answer.Copy !req
893. Call Dr. Lehmann, tell him we need our
own assessment to the judge by morning.Copy !req
894. - What's wrong?
- It's Falcone.Copy !req
895. Dr. Crane moved him to Arkham Asylum
on suicide watch.Copy !req
896. You're going to Arkham now?
It's in the Narrows, Rachel.Copy !req
897. You enjoy your party, Bruce.Copy !req
898. - Some of us have work to do.
- You be careful.Copy !req
899. Happy birthday.Copy !req
900. But, Master Wayne,
the guests will be arriving.Copy !req
901. Keep them happy until I arrive.Copy !req
902. Tell them that joke you know.Copy !req
903. Having fun?Copy !req
904. Bill? Now, what's a big shot like you
doing in a place like this?Copy !req
905. I need some information.Copy !req
906. The Wayne Enterprise 47-B, 1-ME.Copy !req
907. 1-ME.Copy !req
908. It's a microwave emitter. It was designed
to vaporize an enemy's water supply.Copy !req
909. Rumor was they tested dispersing
water-based chemicals into the air...Copy !req
910. but isn't that illegal?Copy !req
911. I want all the information
on the development of this project...Copy !req
912. all data, files, backup disks,
on my desk right away.Copy !req
913. Did you lose one?Copy !req
914. I'm merging your department
with Archives.Copy !req
915. And I am firing you.Copy !req
916. Didn't you get the memo?Copy !req
917. Scarecrow.Copy !req
918. Scarecrow.Copy !req
919. Scarecrow.Copy !req
920. Miss Dawes, this is most irregular.Copy !req
921. I have nothing to add
to the report I filed with the judge.Copy !req
922. - I have questions about your report.
- Such as?Copy !req
923. Isn't it convenient for a 52-year-old man
who has no history of mental illness...Copy !req
924. to have a psychotic breakdown
just when he's about to be indicted?Copy !req
925. As you can see for yourself, there is
nothing convenient about his symptoms.Copy !req
926. - Scarecrow.
- What's "scarecrow"?Copy !req
927. Patients suffering delusional episodes
often focus their paranoia...Copy !req
928. on an external tormentor...Copy !req
929. usually one conforming
to Jungian archetypes.Copy !req
930. In this case, a scarecrow.Copy !req
931. - He's drugged?
- Psychopharmacology is my primary field.Copy !req
932. I'm a strong advocate.Copy !req
933. Outside, he was a giant.Copy !req
934. In here, only the mind
can grant you power.Copy !req
935. You enjoy the reversal.Copy !req
936. I respect the mind's power
over the body.Copy !req
937. It's why I do what I do.Copy !req
938. I do what I do to keep thugs like Falcone
behind bars, not in therapy.Copy !req
939. I want my own psychiatric consultant
to have full access to Falcone...Copy !req
940. including blood work.
Find out what exactly you put him on.Copy !req
941. - First thing tomorrow, then.
- Tonight.Copy !req
942. I've already paged Dr. Lehmann
at County General.Copy !req
943. As you wish.Copy !req
944. This way, please.Copy !req
945. There's something
I think you should see.Copy !req
946. This is where we make the medicine.Copy !req
947. Perhaps you should have some,
clear your head.Copy !req
948. Who knows you're here?Copy !req
949. Who knows?Copy !req
950. He's here.Copy !req
951. Who?Copy !req
952. The Batman.Copy !req
953. What do we do?
- What anyone does...Copy !req
954. when a prowler comes around.Copy !req
955. - Call the police.
- You want the cops here?Copy !req
956. At this point, they can't stop us.Copy !req
957. But the Batman
has a talent for disruption.Copy !req
958. Force him outside,
the police will take him down. Go.Copy !req
959. - What about her?
- She hasn't got long.Copy !req
960. I gave her a concentrated dose.Copy !req
961. The mind can only take so much.
Now go.Copy !req
962. The things they say about him.Copy !req
963. Can he really fly?Copy !req
964. I heard he can disappear.Copy !req
965. Well, we'll find out.Copy !req
966. Won't we?Copy !req
967. Taste of your own medicine, doctor?Copy !req
968. What have you been doing here?Copy !req
969. Who are you working for?Copy !req
970. Ra's... Ra's al Ghul.Copy !req
971. Ra's al Ghul is dead.
Who are you working for?Copy !req
972. Crane.Copy !req
973. Dr. Crane isn't here right now.Copy !req
974. But if you'd like to make
an appointment...Copy !req
975. Batman,
put down your weapons and surrender.Copy !req
976. You're surrounded.Copy !req
977. - What are you waiting for?
- Backup.Copy !req
978. - Backup?
- The Batman's in there.Copy !req
979. SWAT's on the way.
But if you wanna go in now...Copy !req
980. I'll be right behind you, sir.Copy !req
981. SWAT's on the way.Copy !req
982. - Hey.
- Hey.Copy !req
983. What's happened to her?Copy !req
984. Crane poisoned her with a psychotropic
hallucinogen, a panic-inducing toxin.Copy !req
985. - Let me get her down to the medics.
- They can't help her, but I can.Copy !req
986. Get her downstairs.
Meet me in the alley.Copy !req
987. Crane's been smuggling his toxin
hidden in Falcone's drugs...Copy !req
988. and they're dumping it
into the water supply.Copy !req
989. - What was he planning?
- I don't know.Copy !req
990. Was he working for Falcone?Copy !req
991. He mentioned someone else,
someone worse.Copy !req
992. She needs the antidote
before the damage is permanent.Copy !req
993. - How long does she have?
- Not long.Copy !req
994. What is that?Copy !req
995. - Backup.
- What the...?Copy !req
996. Excuse me.Copy !req
997. How is she?
- She's fading. We gotta go.Copy !req
998. I'll get my car.Copy !req
999. I brought mine.Copy !req
1000. Yours?Copy !req
1001. I've gotta get me one of those.Copy !req
1002. He is in a vehicle.Copy !req
1003. Make and color?Copy !req
1004. It's a black...Copy !req
1005. tank.Copy !req
1006. Stay calm.Copy !req
1007. You've been poisoned.Copy !req
1008. I'm on him.Copy !req
1009. Breathe slowly.Copy !req
1010. Hold on.Copy !req
1011. - What are you doing?
- Shortcut.Copy !req
1012. Air One to ground, block that ramp.Copy !req
1013. He's got no way off that roof.Copy !req
1014. Turn off your engine.
Step away from the car.Copy !req
1015. - Trust me.
- Weapons system activated.Copy !req
1016. Who is this guy?Copy !req
1017. Where's he going?Copy !req
1018. He's on the roof.Copy !req
1019. What street is he taking?
- He's not on a street.Copy !req
1020. He's flying on rooftops.Copy !req
1021. At least tell me what it looks like.Copy !req
1022. Never mind.Copy !req
1023. Got him.Copy !req
1024. Coming right up on his butt.Copy !req
1025. We're tracking suspect
vehicle heading west on I-17.Copy !req
1026. - Air One to ground.
- I lost him.Copy !req
1027. We've lost visual. Exit 9 is blocked.Copy !req
1028. We'll loop back to check
the frontage road.Copy !req
1029. Stealth mode activated.Copy !req
1030. Stay with me.Copy !req
1031. What...? There he is.Copy !req
1032. Just hold on.Copy !req
1033. Rachel!Copy !req
1034. They get any of this into the mains'?Copy !req
1035. Yeah.Copy !req
1036. Notify the water company.
There's gotta be a way to isolate it.Copy !req
1037. No. They put it all in.
They must've been at this for weeks.Copy !req
1038. - Gotham's entire water supply is laced.
- Why haven't we felt the effects?Copy !req
1039. Must be a compound that
has to be absorbed through the lungs.Copy !req
1040. How do you feel?Copy !req
1041. Where are we?Copy !req
1042. - Why did you bring me here?
- If I hadn't, your mind would be lost.Copy !req
1043. - You were poisoned.
- It was...Copy !req
1044. - It was Dr. Crane.
- Rest. Gordon has Crane.Copy !req
1045. Is Sergeant Gordon your friend?Copy !req
1046. I don't have the luxury of friends.Copy !req
1047. I'm gonna give you a sedative.
You'll wake up back at home.Copy !req
1048. When you do, get these to Gordon,
and Gordon alone. Trust no one.Copy !req
1049. - What are they?
- The antidote.Copy !req
1050. One for Gordon to inoculate himself,
the other for mass production.Copy !req
1051. Mass production?Copy !req
1052. Crane was just a pawn.
We need to be ready.Copy !req
1053. When you told me your grand plan
for saving Gotham...Copy !req
1054. all that stopped me
from calling the men in white coats...Copy !req
1055. was when you said
it wasn't about thrill-seeking.Copy !req
1056. - It's not.
- What would you call that?Copy !req
1057. - Damn good television.
- It's a miracle no one was killed.Copy !req
1058. I didn't have time to observe
the rules of the road, Alfred.Copy !req
1059. You're getting lost inside
this monster of yours.Copy !req
1060. I'm using this monster to help
other people, just like my father did.Copy !req
1061. For Thomas Wayne, helping others...Copy !req
1062. wasn't about proving anything
to anyone, including himself.Copy !req
1063. It's Rachel, Alfred. She was dying.Copy !req
1064. She's downstairs, sedated.
I need you to take her home.Copy !req
1065. Well, we both care for Rachel, but what
you're doing has to be beyond that.Copy !req
1066. It can't be personal,
or you're just a vigilante.Copy !req
1067. - Is Fox still here?
- Yes, sir.Copy !req
1068. We need to send these people away.Copy !req
1069. Those are Bruce Wayne's guests.
You have a name to maintain.Copy !req
1070. I don't care about my name.Copy !req
1071. It's not just your name, sir.
It's your father's name.Copy !req
1072. And it's all that's left of him.Copy !req
1073. Don't destroy it.Copy !req
1074. - Mr. Earle.
- Happy birthday, Bruce.Copy !req
1075. Thank you.Copy !req
1076. How did the stock offering go?Copy !req
1077. Prices soared.Copy !req
1078. Who was buying?Copy !req
1079. All kinds of funds and brokerages.Copy !req
1080. It's a bit technical.Copy !req
1081. The key thing is...Copy !req
1082. our company's future is secure.Copy !req
1083. Great.Copy !req
1084. A little the worse for wear, I'm afraid.Copy !req
1085. What was the plan, Crane?Copy !req
1086. How were you gonna get
your toxin into the air?Copy !req
1087. Scarecrow. Scarecrow.Copy !req
1088. Who were you working for, Crane?Copy !req
1089. Oh, it's too late.Copy !req
1090. You can't stop it now.Copy !req
1091. Here.Copy !req
1092. Happy birthday, Bruce.
- Thank you. Thanks.Copy !req
1093. And thank you for that item.Copy !req
1094. You're welcome.Copy !req
1095. - I know you'll put it to good use.
- I already have.Copy !req
1096. How long would it take
to manufacture on a large scale?Copy !req
1097. Weeks. Why?Copy !req
1098. Somebody's planning to disperse
the toxin using the water supply.Copy !req
1099. The water supply won't help you
disperse an inhalant.Copy !req
1100. What?Copy !req
1101. Unless you have a microwave emitter
powerful enough...Copy !req
1102. to vaporize all the water
in the mains.Copy !req
1103. A microwave emitter like the one
Wayne Enterprises just misplaced.Copy !req
1104. Misplaced?Copy !req
1105. Earle just fired me for asking
too many questions about it.Copy !req
1106. Go back to Wayne Enterprises now
and start making more of that antidote.Copy !req
1107. The police are gonna need as much
as they can get their hands on.Copy !req
1108. My security clearance
has been revoked.Copy !req
1109. That wouldn't stop a man like you,
would it?Copy !req
1110. I suppose not.Copy !req
1111. - Bruce, there's somebody you must meet.
- Not now, Mrs. Delane.Copy !req
1112. Now, am I pronouncing this right...Copy !req
1113. Mr. Ra's al Ghul?Copy !req
1114. You're not Ra's al Ghul.Copy !req
1115. I watched him die.Copy !req
1116. But is Ra's al Ghul immortal?Copy !req
1117. Are his methods supernatural?Copy !req
1118. Or cheap parlor tricks to conceal
your true identity, Ra's?Copy !req
1119. Surely a man who spends his nights
scrambling over the rooftops of Gotham...Copy !req
1120. wouldn't begrudge me dual identities.Copy !req
1121. I saved your life.Copy !req
1122. I warned you about compassion, Bruce.Copy !req
1123. Your quarrel is with me.Copy !req
1124. You let these people go.Copy !req
1125. You are welcome to explain
the situation to them.Copy !req
1126. Everyone.Copy !req
1127. Everybody?Copy !req
1128. I...Copy !req
1129. I want to thank you all for coming here
tonight and drinking all of my booze.Copy !req
1130. No, really.Copy !req
1131. There's a thing about being a Wayne...Copy !req
1132. that you're never short of
a few freeloaders, like yourselves...Copy !req
1133. to fill up your mansion with.
So here's to you people. Thank you.Copy !req
1134. - That's enough, Bruce.
- I'm not finished.Copy !req
1135. To all of you...Copy !req
1136. All of you phonies,
all of you two-faced friends...Copy !req
1137. you sycophantic suck-ups
who smile through your teeth at me...Copy !req
1138. please, leave me in peace.Copy !req
1139. Please go.Copy !req
1140. Stop smiling, it's not a joke.
Please leave.Copy !req
1141. The party's over, get out.Copy !req
1142. The apple has fallen very far
from the tree, Mr. Wayne.Copy !req
1143. He's turning into a jerk.Copy !req
1144. Amusing.Copy !req
1145. But pointless.
None of these people have long to live.Copy !req
1146. Your antics at the asylum
have forced my hand.Copy !req
1147. So Crane was working for you.Copy !req
1148. His toxin is derived from the organic
compound found in our blue flowers.Copy !req
1149. He was able to weaponize it.Copy !req
1150. He's not a member of
the League of Shadows?Copy !req
1151. Of course not. He thought our plan
was to hold the city to ransom.Copy !req
1152. But really, you are gonna release
Crane's poison on the entire city.Copy !req
1153. Then watch Gotham tear itself apart
through fear.Copy !req
1154. You're gonna destroy millions of lives.Copy !req
1155. Only a cynical man would call
what these people have "lives," Wayne.Copy !req
1156. Crime. Despair.Copy !req
1157. This is not how man
was supposed to live.Copy !req
1158. The League of Shadows has been
a check against human corruption...Copy !req
1159. for thousands of years.Copy !req
1160. We sacked Rome.
Loaded trade ships with plague rats.Copy !req
1161. Burned London to the ground.Copy !req
1162. Every time a civilization reaches
the pinnacle of its decadence...Copy !req
1163. we return to restore the balance.Copy !req
1164. Gotham isn't beyond saving.Copy !req
1165. Give me more time.
There are good people here.Copy !req
1166. You're defending a city so corrupt...Copy !req
1167. we have infiltrated
every level of its infrastructure.Copy !req
1168. Time to play.Copy !req
1169. When I found you in that jail,
you were lost.Copy !req
1170. But I believed in you.Copy !req
1171. I took away your fear,
and I showed you a path.Copy !req
1172. You were my greatest student.Copy !req
1173. It should be you standing by my side,
saving the world.Copy !req
1174. I'll be standing where I belong.Copy !req
1175. Between you
and the people of Gotham.Copy !req
1176. No one can save Gotham.Copy !req
1177. When a forest grows too wild,
a purging fire is inevitable and natural.Copy !req
1178. Tomorrow the world will watch in horror
as its greatest city destroys itself.Copy !req
1179. The movement back to harmony
will be unstoppable this time.Copy !req
1180. - You attacked Gotham before?
- Of course.Copy !req
1181. Over the ages our weapons
have grown more sophisticated.Copy !req
1182. With Gotham we tried a new one.
Economics.Copy !req
1183. But we underestimated certain
of Gotham's citizens...Copy !req
1184. such as your parents.Copy !req
1185. Gunned down by one of the very people
they were trying to help.Copy !req
1186. Create enough hunger
and everyone becomes a criminal.Copy !req
1187. Their deaths galvanized the city
into saving itself...Copy !req
1188. and Gotham has limped on
ever since.Copy !req
1189. We are back to finish the job.Copy !req
1190. And this time no misguided idealists
will get in the way.Copy !req
1191. Like your father, you lack the courage
to do all that is necessary.Copy !req
1192. If someone stands in the way
of true justice...Copy !req
1193. you simply walk up behind them
and stab them in the heart.Copy !req
1194. - I am gonna stop you.
- You never did learn...Copy !req
1195. to mind your surroundings.Copy !req
1196. Justice is balance.Copy !req
1197. You burned my house
and left me for dead.Copy !req
1198. Consider us even.Copy !req
1199. No one comes out. Make sure.Copy !req
1200. They're all gone?Copy !req
1201. - How many from maximum security?
- Every one of them.Copy !req
1202. Serial killers, rapists.Copy !req
1203. Raise the bridges.
We don't want any getting off the island.Copy !req
1204. Yeah, I'll raise the bridges...Copy !req
1205. when I get every available unit out here
to catch the homicidal maniacs...Copy !req
1206. - ... that are running loose out there.
- Come on!Copy !req
1207. I hope you're not a member
of the fire brigade.Copy !req
1208. Master Wayne! Master Wayne!Copy !req
1209. What is the point of all those pushups
if you can't even lift a bloody log?Copy !req
1210. What have I done, Alfred?Copy !req
1211. Everything my family...Copy !req
1212. my father, built...Copy !req
1213. The Wayne legacy is more
than bricks and mortar, sir.Copy !req
1214. I wanted to save Gotham.Copy !req
1215. I failed.Copy !req
1216. Why do we fall, sir?Copy !req
1217. So that we can learn
to pick ourselves up.Copy !req
1218. You still haven't given up on me?Copy !req
1219. Never.Copy !req
1220. Down!Copy !req
1221. Harassment! I see harassment!Copy !req
1222. Maybe you'd like to see
some excessive force?Copy !req
1223. Madman with a gun.Copy !req
1224. With residents furious...Copy !req
1225. at the unprecedented show of police
strength to round up the inmates...Copy !req
1226. We're about to raise these bridges.Copy !req
1227. Officer, I am a Gotham City
district attorney. Let me pass.Copy !req
1228. - Just shut up!
- Hey, Flass, cool it!Copy !req
1229. Hold these people back.Copy !req
1230. Hey, Gordon.
Somebody here to see you.Copy !req
1231. - What are you doing here?
- Our friend sent me with this.Copy !req
1232. It counteracts Crane's toxin.Copy !req
1233. Hopefully you won't need it.Copy !req
1234. Not unless he's got some way
of getting that crap into the air.Copy !req
1235. All right, last one across.Copy !req
1236. People, they want this
bridge up in no more than three minutes!Copy !req
1237. Better get you off the island before
they raise the bridges. Patrolman!Copy !req
1238. Go!Copy !req
1239. I can't find my mom.Copy !req
1240. Hey!Copy !req
1241. What the hell are you doing?Copy !req
1242. Gentlemen...Copy !req
1243. time to spread the word.Copy !req
1244. And the word is...Copy !req
1245. panic.Copy !req
1246. Jesus. The pressure, it's spiking.Copy !req
1247. Right there.Copy !req
1248. That water main
is right under the Narrows.Copy !req
1249. It's okay.Copy !req
1250. This is Commissioner Loeb.Copy !req
1251. Come on, somebody talk to me.Copy !req
1252. Come on!Copy !req
1253. Loeb, Loeb. This is Gordon.Copy !req
1254. What the hell is going on?Copy !req
1255. We need reinforcements.
TAC teams, SWAT, riot cops!Copy !req
1256. Gordon! All the city's riot police
are on the island with you!Copy !req
1257. Well, they're completely incapacitated!Copy !req
1258. It's okay, it's okay.
No one's gonna hurt you.Copy !req
1259. Of course they are!Copy !req
1260. - Crane?
- No. Scarecrow.Copy !req
1261. Gordon...Copy !req
1262. there's nobody left to send in.Copy !req
1263. So I'm on my own?Copy !req
1264. The Narrows is tearing itself to pieces.Copy !req
1265. This is just the beginning.
If they hit the whole city...Copy !req
1266. there's nothing to stop Gotham
tearing itself apart.Copy !req
1267. - How are they gonna do that?
- The train.Copy !req
1268. The monorail follows the water mains to
the central hub beneath Wayne Tower.Copy !req
1269. If the machine gets to the station...Copy !req
1270. it'll cause a chain reaction
that'll vaporize the city's water supply.Copy !req
1271. Covering Gotham in this poison.Copy !req
1272. I'm gonna stop him from loading
that train, but I may need your help.Copy !req
1273. - What do you need?
- Can you drive stick?Copy !req
1274. There you are!Copy !req
1275. There is nothing to fear...Copy !req
1276. but fear itself!Copy !req
1277. I am here to help you!Copy !req
1278. Batman will save us. He'll come.Copy !req
1279. - He'll come.
- Don't peek.Copy !req
1280. This is Gordon.
Prepare to lower the bridge.Copy !req
1281. I told you he'd come.Copy !req
1282. Wait.Copy !req
1283. You could die.Copy !req
1284. At least tell me your name.Copy !req
1285. It's not who I am underneath...Copy !req
1286. but what I do that defines me.Copy !req
1287. Bruce?Copy !req
1288. Well, well. You took my advice
about theatricality a bit literally.Copy !req
1289. - It ends here.
- For you and the police, maybe.Copy !req
1290. My fight, however,
lies with the rest of Gotham.Copy !req
1291. Now, if you'll excuse me,
I have a city to destroy.Copy !req
1292. - I can't beat two of your pawns?
- As you wish.Copy !req
1293. GPS online.Copy !req
1294. In 100 yards.Copy !req
1295. Gentlemen.Copy !req
1296. Who the hell authorized this?Copy !req
1297. Distance to Wayne Tower, three miles.Copy !req
1298. The pressure's moving along the mains,
blowing the pipes.Copy !req
1299. If that pressure reaches us...Copy !req
1300. the water supply right across
the whole city is gonna blow!Copy !req
1301. At the next intersection, turn right.Copy !req
1302. You will never learn.Copy !req
1303. Sorry.Copy !req
1304. - Familiar. Don't you have anything new?
- How about this?Copy !req
1305. You have arrived at Wayne Tower.Copy !req
1306. Evacuate the building.Copy !req
1307. We're on top of the main hub
and it's gonna blow.Copy !req
1308. Weapons system activated.Copy !req
1309. Nice ride.Copy !req
1310. Armed.Copy !req
1311. Don't be afraid, Bruce.Copy !req
1312. Come on. Come on.Copy !req
1313. You are just an ordinary man in a cape.Copy !req
1314. That's why you couldn't fight injustice,
that's why you can't stop this train.Copy !req
1315. Who said anything about stopping it?Copy !req
1316. Yes!Copy !req
1317. You never learned
to mind your surroundings!Copy !req
1318. Have you finally learned to do
what is necessary?Copy !req
1319. I won't kill you...Copy !req
1320. but I don't have to save you.Copy !req
1321. - The meeting's already started.
- What meeting?Copy !req
1322. Fox, I seem to remember firing you.Copy !req
1323. You did.Copy !req
1324. I got another job.Copy !req
1325. Yours.Copy !req
1326. On whose authority?Copy !req
1327. Batman may
have made the front page...Copy !req
1328. but Bruce Wayne
got pushed to page eight.Copy !req
1329. Bruce Wayne.Copy !req
1330. What makes you think you can decide
who's running Wayne Enterprises?Copy !req
1331. - The fact that I'm the owner.
- What are you talking about?Copy !req
1332. The company went public a week ago.Copy !req
1333. And I bought most of the shares.Copy !req
1334. Through various charitable foundations
and trusts and so forth.Copy !req
1335. Look, it's all a bit technical,
but the important thingCopy !req
1336. is that my company's future
is secure.Copy !req
1337. Right, Mr. Fox?Copy !req
1338. Right you are, Mr. Wayne.Copy !req
1339. Didn't you get the memo?Copy !req
1340. - I'm sorry I didn't tell you, Rachel.
- No. No, Bruce...Copy !req
1341. I'm sorry.Copy !req
1342. The day that Chill died, I...Copy !req
1343. I said terrible things.Copy !req
1344. But true things.Copy !req
1345. I was a coward with a gun...Copy !req
1346. and justice is about more
than revenge, so thank you.Copy !req
1347. I never stopped thinking about you.Copy !req
1348. About us.Copy !req
1349. And when I heard you were back, I...Copy !req
1350. I started to hope.Copy !req
1351. But then I found out about your mask.Copy !req
1352. Batman's just a symbol, Rachel.Copy !req
1353. No. This...Copy !req
1354. is your mask.Copy !req
1355. Your real face is the one
that criminals now fear.Copy !req
1356. The man I loved...Copy !req
1357. the man who vanished...Copy !req
1358. he never came back at all.Copy !req
1359. But maybe he's still
out there somewhere.Copy !req
1360. Maybe someday,
when Gotham no longer needs Batman...Copy !req
1361. I'll see him again.Copy !req
1362. - Proved me wrong, you know.
- About what?Copy !req
1363. Your father would be very proud of you.Copy !req
1364. Just like me.Copy !req
1365. What will you do?Copy !req
1366. Rebuild it.Copy !req
1367. Just the way it was, brick for brick.Copy !req
1368. Just the way it was, sir?Copy !req
1369. Yeah, why?Copy !req
1370. I thought this might be
a good opportunity for...Copy !req
1371. improving the foundations.Copy !req
1372. - In the southeast corner?
- Precisely, sir.Copy !req
1373. - Nice.
- I couldn't find any mob bosses.Copy !req
1374. Well, sergeant?
- It's "lieutenant" now.Copy !req
1375. You really started something.Copy !req
1376. Bent cops running scared.Copy !req
1377. Hope on the streets.Copy !req
1378. - But?
- The Narrows is lost.Copy !req
1379. And we still haven't picked up Crane or
half the inmates of Arkham that he freed.Copy !req
1380. We Will.Copy !req
1381. We can bring Gotham back.Copy !req
1382. - What about escalation?
- Escalation?Copy !req
1383. We start carrying semiautomatics,
they buy automatics.Copy !req
1384. We start wearing Kevlar,
they buy armor-piercing rounds.Copy !req
1385. - And?
- And you're wearing a mask...Copy !req
1386. and jumping off rooftops.Copy !req
1387. Now, take this guy.Copy !req
1388. Armed robbery, double homicide.Copy !req
1389. Got a taste for the theatrical, like you.Copy !req
1390. Leaves a calling card.Copy !req
1391. I'll look into it.Copy !req
1392. I never said thank you.Copy !req
1393. And you'll never have to.Copy !req
