Trevor is getting bored, but Edward has good news. The Fat Controller wants Trevor to help with his new Harbour. Edward takes Trevor to the Junction, where the Traction Engine meets Thomas. Thomas takes him down to the Harbour, but has his doubts as to how useful Trevor can be since he doesn't run on rails. Thomas is soon pleasantly surprised.

1. Trevor enjoyed living at the vicarage.

2. Edward saw him every day but sometimes Trevor didn't have any work.

3. "I like to keep busy,” he sighed, “and I do like company, especially children.”

4. “Cheer up - the Fat Controller has work for you at his new harbour today.”

5. “Ah!" exclaimed Trevor. “A harbour! The seaside! Children!"

6. Thomas was on his way to the harbour with metal pilings for the harbour wall.

7. “Hello,” said Edward. "This is Trevor, he's a traction engine.”

8. Thomas eyed Trevor doubtfully. “A what engine?”

9. “A traction engine. I run on roads instead of rails.

10. “Can you take me to the harbour?"

11. “Yes... of course,” replied Thomas. But he was still puzzled.

12. Workmen coupled Trevor's truck to Thomas's train.

13. “I'm glad the Fat Controller needs me,” called Trevor.

14. “I don't have much to do, although I can work anywhere, even harbours.”

15. “But you don't run on rails,” said Thomas.

16. “Traction engines don't need rails,” replied Trevor.

17. At the harbour, everything was in confusion.

18. Derailed trucks blocked the line and stone slabs lay everywhere.

19. “We must get these pilings past,” said Thomas's driver.

20. “Trevor, we need you to drag them round this mess."

21. “Now you'll see what traction engines can do, Thomas."

22. Trevor dragged the pilings into position.

23. "Who needs rails?" he said to himself.

24. Thomas brought Annie and Clarabel to visit. Thomas was impressed.

25. “Now I understand how useful a traction engine can be.”

26. The coaches were full of children. Trevor gave them rides.

27. “He's kind,” said Annie. “Like Thomas,” added Clarabel.

28. It was time for Trevor to go. Thomas pulled him to the junction.

29. A small tear came into Trevor's eye, so Thomas whistled gaily.

30. “T'll visit," he promised.

31. “There's plenty of work in the orchard but we may need you at the harbour.”

32. “That would be wonderful!"

33. Trevor stood remembering - his friend Thomas, the harbour, and the children.

34. Then he went to sleep in the shed at the bottom of the orchard.
