A young girl inexplicably disappears from her home, and Mulder requests the case even though it is a full FBI matter, not just an X-File. When Mulder takes some outrageous leaps to convince the girl's parents that she will be found, Scully fears that Mulder is becoming too personally involved with the case because of his sister's abduction.

119. From the note, we have determined several facts.

120. There is a threat of violence but no demand for money or ransom.

121. The note is short and written on a torn piece of paper, suggesting haste and no planning.

122. The paper's a type used by dry-cleaners to protect laundered garments.

123. The torn piece that the note was found on

124. matches exactly a piece that was found in the garbage of the LaPierre home.

125. The ink matches a felt-tip pen that was also found in the garbage.

126. One set of prints were found on it - Billie LaPierre's.

127. Is it her handwriting?

128. That's difficult to prove, due to the pen and the quality of the paper,

129. which tends to cause bleeding, makes the handwriting indistinct.

130. It also looks like there's been an attempt to disguise the writing.

131. In Mrs LaPierre's handwriting, we see dominant letter forms.

132. The S in "strangle", "stray dog", here in "Santa Claus",

133. matches up with the 5's in...

134. "Dollars", "Seven" and "cents".

135. - Enough to make a connection. - But not an indictment.

136. Do you have information you'd like to share with us, Mulder?

137. Bud LaPierre says he'd been watching TV

138. and had gotten up to go to bed when he found Amber Lynn missing.

139. But according to the police report, the TV set was still on

140. when the first officers arrived.

141. By his own account, both parents put Amber Lynn to bed

142. and were never more than 20 feet from her room.

143. The LaPierres know all their neighbours in the street, are on good terms with them.

144. But no one saw a stranger, on a Friday, at a fairly early hour,

145. enter into a locked and lighted home and remove this little girl undetected.
