The X-Files 5x18

1. North perimeter clear. No sign of him.

2. South access clear.

3. South access clear.

4. Camera one, pan right.

5. Mulder, make for the west entrance.

6. Zoom in.

7. West gate, no sign of suspect.

8. Two, angle south entrance.

9. Mid-park clear.

10. There.

11. The bus.

12. Three, zoom in.

13. Stay close, Mulder.

14. We have alpha off an eastbound metro bus.

15. I have alpha, heading south.

16. One, follow suspect.

17. Beta. Contact made.

18. All right, hold your positions.

19. What's he looking at?

20. Two, pick it up.

21. Two, pick it up.

22. Mulder, he's watching you.

23. He's reaching for something.

24. One, zoom in.

25. Okay, slowly.

26. Slowly. Wait for it.

27. (over earpiece): Wait, wait.

28. Wait for it.

29. Okay.

30. What? What? What? What?

31. What just happened? What's happening?

32. I don't know.

33. What the hell happened?

34. Anybody!

35. A doctor! I need a doctor over here!

36. My friend's sick here. I don't know what's wrong.

37. Oh, God.

38. Oh, God.

39. He just... he just fell...

40. Ah, man.

41. What the hell's going on?

42. I can't see anything!

43. Beta target down.

44. We've lost alpha!

45. Go, go, go!

46. There he is. He's heading west. He's on the move!

47. He's on the move!

48. I'm on him.

49. Maintain your position on the downed beta.

50. Find the alpha on three.

51. Federal agent! Step aside!

52. Oh, my God.

53. What is it?

54. What the hell did he do to him?

55. What the hell did he do to him?

56. What? What? What? What are you seeing?

57. Come on, talk to me, talk to me!

58. It's eating away his flesh.

59. What?

60. Haley must be carrying something lethal.

61. Where's Mulder?

62. Mulder was on him.

63. There's no way he couldn't catch him.

64. Mulder, respond!

65. Can you find him? Zoom in. Zoom in!

66. I can't see a thing.

67. Mulder, suspect is armed and dangerous.

68. Pursue alpha with extreme caution.

69. Mulder! Damn it!

70. Agent Scully!

71. Scully!

72. What happened?

73. I lost him.

74. What do you mean?

75. He got away.

76. I came in early.

77. I wanted to take a look at the surveillance tape

78. to make sure I wasn't crazy.

79. What happened out there, Mulder?

80. "What happened"?

81. "What happened"?

82. There were 12 agents yesterday in the park.

83. We had ownership of the suspect.

84. We were in position to make the capture,

85. and you let him get away.

86. And-and from what I see now,

87. you may have even aided in his escape.

88. I don't know what you're talking about.

89. It's on the video, Mulder.

90. I can't prove it was you, but I know what I saw.

91. This man is a murderer.

92. He is a terrorist.

93. I have a report to give this morning.

94. I have a report to give this morning.

95. I expect you to give me an answer.

96. I expect you to tell me the truth.

97. We're late for the hearing.

98. 15 hours ago, a joint FBI/CIA task force assembled

99. to capture Jacob Steven Haley, second in command

100. of the militia group known as New Spartans.

101. Intelligence revealed Haley was to make an exchange of money

102. for a quantity of automatic weapons

103. to conduct domestic terrorist activities

104. and to further their express goal

105. of overthrowing the federal government.

106. Due to reasons that are still under review,

107. Due to reasons that are still under review,

108. our operation failed.

109. Jacob Steven Haley remains at large.

110. Whereabouts unknown.

111. What about the weapons?

112. An arms dealer named Cadre, who died at the scene,

113. received from Haley a $50,000 bearer bond.

114. Presumably, this was payment

115. for weapons delivered.

116. In other words, Haley not only got away,

117. he got away with $50,000 worth of guns?

118. Have we determined a cause of death—

119. Have we determined a cause of death—

120. how Haley killed this man?

121. He was killed by means

122. of a highly toxic biological agent.

123. What kind of toxin are we talking about?

124. We don't know.

125. Its effect on the dermis

126. and the soft tissues, the rapidity of its action—

127. it is not a disease known in nature.

128. It would seem to be genetically engineered—

129. a bioweapon.

130. How the hell did he get it?

131. The former Soviet Union.

132. Security on the Siberian Vector lab is, uh, lax.

133. It's conceivable it was stolen,

134. though we have no confirmation from Moscow.

135. So this is in the ozone now?

136. Is this stuff floating through Folger Park?

137. Level four decontamination procedures

138. were undertaken immediately.

139. Our best indications are that exposure was limited

140. and that the toxin was transmitted directly

141. and not contagious.

142. How do you know that?

143. We're not all dead.

144. At this point, we can only guess

145. that the toxin was transmitted

146. that the toxin was transmitted

147. by liquid or gas, touch or injection.

148. Anybody care to tell me how this guy Haley eluded us?

149. Video recon indicates

150. Haley had an accomplice at the park.

151. We've yet to identify who this was

152. or how Haley knew he was under surveillance.

153. He must have made us.

154. Could he have?

155. No. Every member of

156. this task force was chosen

157. for their lack of exposure in terrorist circles.

158. Haley's extremely suspicious to the point of paranoia.

159. He's got military training

160. He's got military training

161. and a guerrilla mentality.

162. Second only to this man.

163. August Bremer.

164. He's the group's mastermind.

165. However, there are reports

166. that he and Haley are vying for control.

167. This destabilization makes August Bremer

168. our primary threat.

169. Well, this is it.

170. This is the scenario

171. we've all been worried about, people.

172. Now, I need maximum control of information.

173. Nothing leaves this room.

174. The media gets a sniff, we're going to disavow.

175. We are going to stop these men.

176. We are going to stop these men.

177. We're going to make it all go away.

178. Mulder.

179. The show's almost over.

180. One, please.

181. Thanks.

182. I'd like some popcorn, please.

183. Do you want large,

184. extra large or jumbo large?

185. extra large or jumbo large?

186. Could I get some fresh popcorn, please?

187. The sign says "fresh popcorn."

188. This is fresh popcorn.

189. No, fresh fresh— hot—

190. out of that machine back there.

191. Please.

192. A large.

193. I have to make it.

194. Probably take a minute.

195. Yeah?

196. Yeah?

197. You set me up.

198. I saved your ass.

199. Then why wasn't I told?

200. I didn't know about the operation.

201. It was your operation.

202. No, no. The Justice Department got an anonymous tip.

203. I found out about a half an hour before it went down.

204. I did what I could.

205. You'll have to do better than that, Mulder.

206. What else can I say?

207. I-I got as much to lose here as you do.

208. They catch you, you'll flip me.

209. Look, I believe in your ideals and your goals,

210. but the only reason I tolerate your methods

211. is because the government's are worse.

212. is because the government's are worse.

213. Wow. What a ringing endorsement.

214. Hey, you came to me, remember?

215. I mean, what more do you want from me?

216. I've risked everything.

217. I've given you information.

218. My partner is seriously suspicious.

219. If that's not enough for you, that's all I got.

220. Ain't nobody home.

221. Eh, she's in there.

222. She's just hiding or something.

223. I'm thinking we could break for it

224. right through the front doors.

225. right through the front doors.

226. Why? I got us front row seats.

227. She see us?

228. Is she coming?

229. Is she coming?

230. Hey, man.

231. Maybe you can tell me what's going on.

232. What?

233. There seems to be a problem.

234. A man just told me

235. you gave him keys to my room— room 130.

236. Who are you?

237. Who am I? Who is he?

238. Mr. Kaplan.

239. Mr. Kaplan.

240. Yes.

241. Thank you.

242. Are you the wife?

243. Are you the wife?

244. Not even close.

245. Yeah.

246. We'll proceed as planned.

247. Agent Mulder, you're coming with us.

248. Step out of the car.

249. Exactly what agency are you guys from?

250. Obviously not the Office of Information.

251. Agent Scully, take a seat.

252. What the hell is going on?

253. I apologize for our methods.

254. I apologize for our methods.

255. They may well have saved Agent Mulder's life.

256. What about my life?

257. I don't appreciate being run off the road.

258. We had our reasons.

259. You're suspicious Agent Mulder's

260. betrayed his country.

261. I don't know what you're talking about.

262. Your discretion is understandable.

263. In point of fact, Agent Mulder's actions

264. are entirely honorable.

265. What you've stumbled into

266. is a classified action, a deep-cover assignment.

267. Until now, Agent Mulder's true mission was known

268. only to the U.S. Attorney and myself.

269. His true mission?

270. His true mission?

271. The council we sat in was a front

272. to make the New Spartans believe

273. that we were unaware of Agent Mulder's complicity.

274. Why him?

275. Why choose Agent Mulder?

276. We didn't choose him, they did.

277. He spoke at a UFO conference in Boston

278. where he apparently broadcast his feelings

279. about the government and their conspiracies

280. against the American people.

281. Somebody from the organization was listening,

282. so the man who escaped, Haley, sent out feelers

283. in hopes that Agent Mulder was a man whose politics

284. were in line with his own—

285. someone on the inside that he could use.

286. someone on the inside that he could use.

287. To what aim?

288. That we don't know.

289. You've put Agent Mulder's life

290. in danger by not telling me.

291. Agent Mulder came to me, I advised him not to tell you.

292. He's at a very delicate point.

293. Everything he does now must work to build trust.

294. Including letting this man Haley get away with murder?

295. Sir, we know nothing

296. about this bioweapon.

297. We don't know what they want to use it for.

298. We don't even know if they have the capacity

299. to store it safely.

300. Putting Agent Mulder in this situation

301. is extremely risky.

302. They want something from him.

303. We have no other way of learning what.

304. Movie theater in Ohio.

305. Whatever they're using, they've used it again.

306. Ooh, is this the Pepsi challenge?

307. How about some, uh, fresh air, boys?

308. Welcome, Agent Mulder.

309. Okay, deal me in.

310. This is just a little method

311. that we use to learn the truth.

312. Well, you might want

313. Well, you might want

314. to put that hood back on me,

315. unless you want to see a grown man cry.

316. What happened in the park?

317. I told you on the phone.

318. I was set up.

319. I'm telling the truth. Wait, wait. Wait!

320. I let you go.

321. You're spying on us, aren't you?

322. No. No. No.

323. You want me to lie

324. You want me to lie

325. and say yes?

326. I'm going to kill you, you son of a bitch!

327. I'm going to kill you!

328. If I set you up,

329. you think I'd even get

330. into the car with this Nazi piece of sh...!

331. I risked everything!

332. If I was lying, there'd be federal agents

333. descending on this place like the wrath of God right now!

334. If you touch me again, you'd better kill me!

335. A war is going on, Agent Mulder.

336. Either you're on the right side

337. or the wrong.

338. You've seen the effects of this?

339. Yeah. Would you like to see them again?

340. No. I didn't set you up.

341. If you got set up, it was one of yours.

342. You know what?

343. I believe you.

344. What are you reading in there?

345. We've been through and through.

346. We've been through and through.

347. No hot zones.

348. No atmospheric.

349. You're clear, Agent Scully.

350. Thank you.

351. 14 victims total including patrons, a projectionist

352. and an employee.

353. That's the usherette.

354. There were two survivors— two teenage boys.

355. How does it happen that those two kids survived?

356. I don't know.

357. But it's going to help us establish a method of delivery.

358. It's doubtful the pathogen was airborne.

359. They found no atmospheric traces.

360. So it's got to be something that everybody touched.

361. Don't be alarmed.

362. Scully, get out of here.

363. Mulder...

364. Get out of here!

365. I know what you're doing.

366. I know what you're doing.

367. Skinner told me everything.

368. I don't know what you're talking about.

369. What happened to your hand?

370. Nothing.

371. Oh, Mulder, what did they do to you?

372. Okay, this needs to be set.

373. You're in pain.

374. Yeah, if you keep pulling it around like that.

375. Let's get the swelling down.

376. They've killed again, Mulder.

377. 14 people in a movie theater in Ohio.

378. The same toxin they released in the park.

379. 14 people?

380. That doesn't make any sense.

381. Unless it was a test...

382. for something bigger.

383. Why do this to you, Mulder?

384. They're testing me, too.

385. Haley's paranoid and spooked.

386. I was sure he was going to kill me.

387. I was sure he was going to kill me.

388. What stopped him?

389. They still need something from me though,

390. and I'm sensing there's someone

391. Haley trusts even less— the man giving him his orders.

392. Someone I haven't met yet, a guy named August Bremer.

393. What happened to your hand?

394. Terrorist lie detector.

395. Well, did you pass?

396. Well, I must have. I'm still here.

397. They told me what they want.

398. Documentation from the Federal Reserve Bank.

399. Fund transfer schedules for the Eastern seaboard.

400. Cash money.

401. They're going to hit a bank or an armored car.

402. They're going to hit a bank or an armored car.

403. That's it?

404. That's all?

405. I think I convinced Haley

406. that the near miss in Folger Park

407. was due to a mole inside his own group.

408. He wants surveillance files on them.

409. How soon?

410. They're waiting for my call.

411. All right, we'll need some time to redact,

412. dummy something up.

413. No, I anticipated this.

414. I've got files ready to use.

415. You know, I'm getting a bad feeling about this.

416. I want a tail on him. No tail.

417. Once they get what they want from Mulder,

418. Once they get what they want from Mulder,

419. what's to keep them from killing him?

420. They spot a tail on him,

421. they're going to shoot him on the spot.

422. We have got no other way

423. of learning what they want past this—

424. what the big picture is.

425. You may not have another chance to contact us.

426. If you don't hear from me by midnight...

427. feed my fish.

428. That's it.

429. That's your bug.

430. It's a bacterium.

431. An especially virulent one.

432. We isolated it from the bearer bond.

433. Was the bacterium also found on the ticket stub?

434. Actually, no.

435. Barring the usual particles and dust mites,

436. the ticket stub was clean.

437. Well, then how was the biotoxin spread

438. throughout the theater?

439. I don't know.

440. It looks like streptococcus.

441. A strain of streptococcus,

442. but one that has been genetically altered

443. to make it extraordinarily lethal.

444. But strep wouldn't be able to survive any kind of exposure

445. to the environment. Normally.

446. But whoever produced this has cleverly coded the bacterium

447. with a synthetic protective covering.

448. The covering gives them an adhesive quality.

449. It's like a scratch and sniff.

450. Dermal contact activates the contagion.

451. It's ingenious in its own evil way.

452. It's ingenious in its own evil way.

453. Developed by the Russians?

454. No. I've seen everything in the Russian arsenal.

455. They've got nothing this sophisticated.

456. Well, then by whom?

457. Do you have what we need?

458. Tell the gimp to back off.

459. Give me the files.

460. I need that back by tomorrow.

461. Lies within lies.

462. Put the hood on.

463. Put the hood on.

464. You're going with us.

465. No.

466. You put it on, or the gimp puts it on for you.

467. Skinner.

468. The biotoxin was applied to the bearer bond

469. with an aerosol spray,

470. but there is no evidence whatsoever

471. of it on the theater stubs.

472. Now, I still have no idea how these kids were unaffected.

473. Now, I still have no idea how these kids were unaffected.

474. Have you I.D.'d the toxin?

475. Agent Scully?

476. Sir, are you alone?

477. No. Why?

478. I'd like to speak with you in private.

479. You're off the speaker.

480. Thank you.

481. Now, CIA intelligence suggested

482. that this biotoxin was stolen from the Russians,

483. but my research indicates

484. that it was almost certainly developed domestically.

485. that it was almost certainly developed domestically.

486. The United States has no bioweapons, Agent Scully.

487. President Nixon dismantled our program in 1969.

488. Yes, sir, that's what we've been told,

489. but the CDC database contains evidence

490. of a streptococcus bacterium being developed

491. by the Army's Pine Bluff facility in the 1960s.

492. It appears to be a very primitive strain

493. of what we're seeing here.

494. What are you saying?

495. What I'm saying is

496. that the bioweapons program may have continued in secret

497. and that someone may be sending Agent Mulder

498. on a suicide mission.

499. on a suicide mission.

500. Right.

501. Thank you.

502. What is it?

503. She's just concerned for her partner.

504. You put us all at risk bringing him here.

505. You put us all at risk bringing him here.

506. We took the usual precautions.

507. Anyway, he came through for us.

508. Federal Reserve schedules for tomorrow.

509. You're a believer?

510. I have my beliefs.

511. You willing to die for them?

512. I'd prefer it didn't come to that.

513. We have a job to do.

514. You're Dracula.

515. (sighs): Oh, damn.

516. The money.

517. Oh, my God, the money.

518. Mulder... take it.

519. Make sure you point that

520. the right way.

521. the right way.

522. Euna, can I have the keys, please?

523. You do what I say or I'll shoot you!

524. Three minutes!

525. Open the gate.

526. Open it!

527. (women scream) Get down! Now!

528. Everybody down!

529. Don't be foolish.

530. Give us the money, and we'll be gone.

531. Move back!

532. Come on!

533. Move it!

534. All right, here!

535. Down! Now!

536. Don't touch that phone!

537. Dracula, take the teller! Right.

538. Step away from the counter!

539. Open the doors!

540. Put your hands up on the windows now!

541. Now! Do it!

542. Now! Do it!

543. You! Here!

544. Get down!

545. Now! Down!

546. Now! Now!

547. Two minutes!

548. Let's open it.

549. Open it!

550. Don't move!

551. I got it.

552. Is he dead?

553. No. He's still alive.

554. Finish him!

555. One minute thirty!

556. You! Face down on the floor!

557. Right here! Now!

558. What are you waiting for? Do it!

559. Get down!

560. I told you to finish him.

561. Finish him!

562. That weapon's traceable. Go!

563. Get the hell out of here.

564. Go! Go!

565. Hey, what are you doing?

566. What are you doing?

567. What are you doing?

568. The bills could be traced.

569. The bank heist was a decoy...

570. to contaminate the money you didn't take.

571. No more tests, Mr. Mulder.

572. This is the real deal.

573. Been a big help.

574. Put that down.

575. He's a liability now.

576. To who? You?

577. If you think you're going to kill Mulder

578. If you think you're going to kill Mulder

579. to protect your secret, it's too late.

580. I already know your secret.

581. Agent Mulder provided us with FBI surveillance reports—

582. files which contain the name of a source

583. who's been leaking information on us

584. for a period of two years: Charles Bogard.

585. See, Bogard is an alias— an old one—

586. for August Bremer.

587. Agent Mulder knows my alias,

588. just as he knew a false report would feed your ambition

589. just as he knew a false report would feed your ambition

590. and pit you against me.

591. Mulder risked his life for us.

592. Are you sure about that?

593. They're testing me, too.

594. Haley's paranoid and spooked.

595. I was sure he was going to kill me.

596. What stopped him?

597. They still need something from me though,

598. and I'm sensing there's someone Haley trusts even less.

599. What the hell is this?

600. Director Skinner, you've got to get to Mulder.

601. You've got to find the bank that they hit.

602. That's what we're trying to do.

603. Agent Mulder's life is in danger—

604. and anybody else who touches the currency at that location.

605. They're putting the biotoxin on the money.

606. We've got no way of contacting him—

607. not without blowing his cover.

608. You've got no choice.

609. We had surveillance tapes satellited to us.

610. There have been 27 robberies

611. There have been 27 robberies

612. in seven Eastern states, all this morning.

613. There's been no sign of Mulder.

614. Well, he's got to be on there somewhere.

615. We've made some decisions.

616. Take it and get out of here.

617. I don't want to see your face again. Go.

618. On your feet. I don't need a car.

619. You can just call me a cab; that'll be fine.

620. Let's go.

621. Go where?

622. Witnessing the murder of a federal agent

623. will make these men an accessory to the crime.

624. You hear that?

625. I wouldn't miss it for the world.

626. Stop there.

627. Down on your knees.

628. Down on your knees.

629. Hands behind your back.

630. There's a car for you just over the rise.

631. There's a car for you just over the rise.

632. Head south till you get to the highway.

633. Who are you? Go on.

634. They come out here and find us, they'll kill us both.

635. Go.

636. Hey! Hold it! (siren whoops)

637. Hold it! Who are you?

638. FBI. Who's in charge?

639. Who's in charge?

640. Who's in charge?

641. I need everybody out of the bank!

642. Mulder. The money!

643. They sprayed the money.

644. We got here an hour ago

645. before any of the funds were touched or transferred.

646. The cash supply is being isolated.

647. It's being locked down in the vault.

648. How did you know it was this bank?

649. I recognized you from the surveillance tape.

650. With the...?

651. Your finger.

652. August Bremer—

653. or whatever his real name is—

654. he's working with us.

655. Mulder, before you go any further,

656. Mulder, before you go any further,

657. you should know that the biotoxin they used

658. may have come from government labs.

659. Our government.

660. You're saying I was set up?

661. We have no definitive

662. information to justify that position.

663. I was being used?

664. This whole operation?

665. The people that died in that theater?

666. Agent Mulder, our government is not in the business

667. of killing innocent civilians.

668. The hell they aren't.

669. Those were tests on us to be used on someone else.

670. Those bills have been analyzed.

671. The money in the vault gave no readings.

672. The money in the vault gave no readings.

673. There's absolutely no evidence of any biotoxins.

674. So before you climb on any bandwagon...

675. You knew about this all along!

676. You knew about this the whole time!

677. I want that money rechecked.

678. That money has been cleared.

679. It's being used as evidence in a federal crime.

680. That money's as dirty as you are, isn't it?

681. Isn't it?

682. Say that were true.

683. Then what do you hope to accomplish, Agent Mulder,

684. Then what do you hope to accomplish, Agent Mulder,

685. as a whistle-blower?

686. To mobilize a civil rights action?

687. To bring down the federal government?

688. To do the very work

689. that that group you were a part of is so bent on doing?

690. What do you want?

691. Laws against those men or laws protecting them?

692. I want people to know the truth.

693. Well, sometimes our job

694. is to protect those people from knowing it.

695. Excuse me.

696. I made this!
