this store, Mommy.Copy !req
6. We're only going
to be a minute.Copy !req
7. I want to go home.Copy !req
8. Let's have fun.Copy !req
9. Help, Melissa.Copy !req

13. Send whoever you got on duty.Copy !req
14. I want to play.Copy !req
15. I want to play.Copy !req
16. Scully.Copy !req
17. Hey, Scully, it's me.Copy !req
18. Mulder, I thought
we had an agreement.Copy !req
19. We were both going
to take the weekend off.Copy !req
20. Right, right, right. I know.Copy !req
21. But I-I just received
some information about a case.Copy !req
22. But I-I just received
some information about a case.Copy !req
23. A classic X Files— classic.Copy !req
24. I wanted to share it with you.Copy !req
25. Mulder, I'm on vacation.Copy !req
26. The weather is clear.Copy !req
27. I'm looking forward
to hitting the roadCopy !req
28. and breathing in some of this
fine New England air.Copy !req
29. You didn't rent
a convertible, did you?Copy !req
30. Why?Copy !req
31. Are you aware of the statistics
of decapitation?Copy !req
32. Mulder, I'm hanging up.Copy !req
33. I'm turning off my cell phone.Copy !req
34. I'm back in the office
on Monday.Copy !req
35. You shouldn't talk and drive
at the same time, either.Copy !req
36. Are you aware
of the statistics...?Copy !req
37. Hello?Copy !req
38. Hello?Copy !req
39. Sir?Copy !req
40. Sir, what happened?Copy !req
41. I... I think
we need a doctor.Copy !req
42. Who are you?Copy !req
43. I'm...Copy !req
44. My name is Scully.Copy !req
45. I-I'm an FBI agent.Copy !req
46. What happened to you?Copy !req
47. I don't know.Copy !req

51. Mulder, it's me.Copy !req
52. I thought you were on vacation.Copy !req
53. I am. I'm-I'm up in Maine.Copy !req
54. I thought you said
you didn't want to be disturbed.Copy !req
55. You wanted to get out
of your head for a few days.Copy !req
56. I don't.Copy !req
57. I mean, I do. I...Copy !req
58. I mean, I do. I...Copy !req
59. What are you watching, Mulder?Copy !req
60. It's The World's
Deadliest Swarms.Copy !req
61. Um... you said you were
going to be unreachable.Copy !req
62. What's going on?Copy !req
63. I, uh... I'm at a market here.Copy !req
64. I'm just trying to give
the local PD a handle here.Copy !req
65. A handle on what?Copy !req
66. Well, I'm not quite sure
how to describe it, Mulder.Copy !req
67. I didn't witness it myself,Copy !req
68. but there seems to be
some kind of an outbreakCopy !req
69. of people acting
in a violent, involuntary way.Copy !req
70. Towards who?Copy !req
71. Toward themselves.Copy !req
72. Toward themselves.Copy !req
73. Themselves?Copy !req
74. Yeah. Beating at their faces,Copy !req
75. clawing at their eyes.Copy !req
76. One man is dead.Copy !req
77. Dead? How?Copy !req
78. Self-inflicted, it appears.Copy !req
79. Huh.Copy !req
80. It sounds to me like that's
witchcraft or maybe some sorceryCopy !req
81. that you're looking for there.Copy !req
82. No, I don't think
it's witchcraft, Mulder,Copy !req
83. or sorcery.Copy !req
84. I've had a look around,Copy !req
85. and I don't see
any evidenceCopy !req
86. of anything that warrants
that kind of suspicion.Copy !req
87. Yeah, well, maybe you don't know
what you're looking for.Copy !req
88. Like evidence of conjuryCopy !req
89. or the black artsCopy !req
90. or the black artsCopy !req
91. or shamanism,
divination, Wicca,Copy !req
92. or any kind of pagan
or neo-pagan practice.Copy !req
93. Charms, cards,Copy !req
94. familiars, bloodstones
or hex signs,Copy !req
95. or any of the ritual tableaux

102. Well, you know,Copy !req
103. short of looking for a ladyCopy !req
104. wearing a pointy hat,
riding a broomstick,Copy !req
105. I think you pretty much
got it covered there.Copy !req
106. I think you pretty much
got it covered there.Copy !req
107. Thanks anyway.Copy !req
108. Who's that woman right there?Copy !req
109. Melissa Turner.Copy !req
110. She's the only one I've seen
who looks unaffected.Copy !req
111. What's your point?Copy !req
112. You might want to talk to her.Copy !req
113. Ms. Scully.Copy !req
114. Ms. Scully.Copy !req
115. You staying in town?Copy !req
116. Yes.Copy !req
117. I'm on vacation.Copy !req
118. Why?Copy !req
119. Well, what you said
back thereCopy !req
120. about Melissa Turner
kind of put a spinCopy !req
121. on this whole business
here today.Copy !req
122. How's that?Copy !req
123. Well, Melissa's caused
some stir.Copy !req
124. People here say
she's a witch.Copy !req
125. Well, that's not
the first timeCopy !req
126. for that accusation
in these parts.Copy !req
127. Ayuh.Copy !req
128. Well, to be honest with
you, Captain Bonsaint,Copy !req
129. um, I'm not much of a
believer in witchcraft.Copy !req
130. Well, you know,
I'm not either.Copy !req
131. Well, you know,
I'm not either.Copy !req
132. I used to just think
it's 'cause Melissa wasCopy !req
133. pretty and single.Copy !req
134. Threatening, you know?Copy !req
135. But now you're
not convinced?Copy !req
136. Well, you know, I appreciate
the trouble you went to,Copy !req
137. and I sure do hope
there's a reasonable explanationCopy !req
138. like you said—
just this one thingCopy !req
139. going to make it hard to
persuade folks to your thinking.Copy !req
140. What one thing is that?Copy !req
141. Who she's been carrying on with.Copy !req
142. Who she's been
carrying on with?Copy !req
143. Ayuh.Copy !req
144. With Dave, the butcher.Copy !req
145. With Dave, the butcher.Copy !req
146. Hello?Copy !req
147. Hey. It's Buddy.Copy !req
148. Oh, hi.Copy !req
149. Are you okay, Melissa?Copy !req
150. I'm fine. Why do you ask?Copy !req
151. Who's that, Mommy?Copy !req
152. I know you were here, Melissa.Copy !req
153. Down at the Supr Savr.Copy !req
154. I don't know what you're
talking about, Buddy.Copy !req
155. Hang up, Mommy.Copy !req
156. Hang up, Mommy.Copy !req
157. Melissa, turn the music down.Copy !req
158. There's some talk
that you're involvedCopy !req
159. in what happened here today.Copy !req
160. I'm not involved in anything.Copy !req
161. I know that.Copy !req
162. Would you listen to me?Copy !req
163. I'm not saying that you are.Copy !req
164. What are you saying, Buddy?Copy !req
165. Mommy!Copy !req
166. I want to help you,
but you got to keep it a secret,Copy !req
167. or we're both going to be
answering questions.Copy !req
168. Now, I got something
to tell you.Copy !req
169. What?Copy !req
170. Something bad.Copy !req
171. What is it, Buddy?Copy !req
172. Dave's dead.Copy !req
173. Oh, my God.Copy !req
174. I got to see you
right away, Melissa.Copy !req
175. I can't.Copy !req
176. You need a friend
more than ever.Copy !req
177. Let's have fun.Copy !req
178. You can't come here, Buddy.Copy !req
179. Why? Tell me why.Copy !req
180. I can't explain it to you now.Copy !req
181. I'm coming over there, Melissa.Copy !req
182. You shouldn't be alone.Copy !req
183. Back door is wide open.Copy !req
184. Melissa?Copy !req
185. Sheets are still wet.Copy !req
186. Chief?Copy !req
187. Take a look at this.Copy !req
188. What the devil's
this for?Copy !req
189. Looks like she was
afraid of something.Copy !req
190. Whatever it is,
she's run off in a hurry.Copy !req
191. Laundry's out,
door's unlocked.Copy !req
192. Beats me.Copy !req
193. You know her?Copy !req
194. You know her?Copy !req
195. Melissy Turner?
Mm-hmm.Copy !req
196. About as local
as you can get.Copy !req
197. Born and raised here.Copy !req
198. Married a fisherman.Copy !req
199. Widowed last year
after a boating accident.Copy !req
200. Don't know
if the little girl, Polly,Copy !req
201. ever really understood.Copy !req
202. Toys in the attic.Copy !req
203. The daughter's autistic?Copy !req
204. That's what they say.Copy !req
205. There was the incident last year
over at the day care center.Copy !req
206. Proprietor slapped Polly
across the face.Copy !req
207. Slapped her? What for?Copy !req
208. Well, she said Polly
threw a tantrum so fierce,Copy !req
209. Well, she said Polly
threw a tantrum so fierce,Copy !req
210. there was nothing else
she could do.Copy !req
211. Next thing she knew,
she's on the ground.Copy !req
212. Little girl
knocked her silly.Copy !req
213. The little girl did?Copy !req
214. Well, that's her story.Copy !req
215. Polly never touched her,
far as I could figure.Copy !req
216. Oh, it was real drama, though.Copy !req
217. Lady who ran the school
lost her license.Copy !req
218. People calling the kid
all manner of names,Copy !req
219. saying Melissa's a witch.Copy !req
220. Polly never went back to school
a day since.Copy !req
221. This, uh, this affair
that the mother was havingCopy !req
222. with the butcher...?Copy !req
223. Dave.Copy !req
224. Oh, I might have given you
the wrong impression.Copy !req
225. Oh, I might have given you
the wrong impression.Copy !req
226. That wasn't really an affair.Copy !req
227. Although Dave did make
quite a fool of himselfCopy !req
228. and his wife.Copy !req
229. So, it was unrequited.Copy !req
230. You could say that.Copy !req
231. To the extent that she'd have
to nail her windows shut?Copy !req
232. Oh, he wasn't that big a fool.Copy !req
233. You know,Copy !req
234. maybe she wasn't afraid
of something getting in.Copy !req
235. Maybe she's afraid
of something getting out.Copy !req
236. Like what?Copy !req
237. Just a thought.Copy !req
238. Just a thought.Copy !req
239. What do you think
of that, huh?Copy !req
240. Why don't you leave town?Copy !req
241. I've got nowhere
to go, Buddy.Copy !req
242. I live on a shoestring
as it is.Copy !req
243. Listen to me.Copy !req
244. I've got some
money put away.Copy !req
245. I've got some
money put away.Copy !req
246. Buddy, I can't.Copy !req
247. I've had my eye on you, Melissa,Copy !req
248. for more years
than I care to remember.Copy !req
249. I missed my chance
the first time around.Copy !req
250. I've been waiting in the wings.Copy !req
251. Now, I'm sorry about
things— truly I am—Copy !req
252. but you need somebody
who can provide.Copy !req
253. Don't, Buddy, please.Copy !req
254. "Don't" because
you don't want toCopy !req
255. or just because
you're too proud?Copy !req
256. You don't understand!Copy !req
257. What don't
I understand?Copy !req
258. What don't
I understand?Copy !req
259. What happened in the Supr Savr,
what happened to Dave...Copy !req
260. I couldn't stop it.Copy !req
261. What do you mean?Copy !req
262. I've seen things.Copy !req
263. I want more cherries.Copy !req
264. What's that, sweetie?Copy !req
265. I want more cherries!Copy !req
266. I saw Dave dead
before he was dead.Copy !req
267. I saw him in frozen foods
all cut and bloody.Copy !req
268. And it's not the first time.Copy !req
269. And it's not the first time.Copy !req
270. My husband...Copy !req
271. I saw him in a window
dead before it happened.Copy !req
272. You know, with a hook.Copy !req
273. I want more
cherries now!Copy !req
274. You're going to have to go
ask your MommyCopy !req
275. for some more money, hon.Copy !req
276. I just can't give them away.Copy !req
277. Window order.Copy !req
278. Let's have fun.Copy !req
279. Mommy, I want more cherries.Copy !req
280. We got to go
now, Polly.Copy !req
281. Take this, Melissa.Copy !req
282. It's to a place we use
for huntingCopy !req
283. up near Schoodic Lake.Copy !req
284. Mommy!
Or else there's
going to be trouble,Copy !req
285. more than you need.
Mommy!Copy !req
286. Mommy!Copy !req
287. Is that you, Jack?Copy !req
288. Uh, yeah, it's me, Jane.Copy !req
289. Come in?Copy !req
290. Who've you got with you?Copy !req
291. Miss Froelich, my
name's Dana Scully.Copy !req
292. I'm with the FBI.Copy !req
293. I just happen to be here
on vacation, and...Copy !req
294. So?Copy !req
295. So, I just am helping
out the chief here.Copy !req
296. You talked to her?Copy !req
297. Who?Copy !req
298. Oh, please.Copy !req
299. Melissa Turner.Copy !req
300. That whore's a witch
sure as I'm standing here.Copy !req
301. She's descended
from the Hawthornes in SalemCopy !req
302. and the Englishes, too.Copy !req
303. She comes from a cursed lineage,Copy !req
304. and now she's passing it
on to the whelp.Copy !req
305. and now she's passing it
on to the whelp.Copy !req
306. God save
that little girlCopy !req
307. if somebody don't do
something.Copy !req
308. Lord knows I tried.Copy !req
309. Jane, if we could just come in
for a few minutes and talk.Copy !req
310. I found out last year how much
good talking to you does,Copy !req
311. Jack Bonsaint.Copy !req
312. I explained everything, and
the city closed me down anyway.Copy !req
313. Our great-great-grandfathers
knew how to treat witches.Copy !req
314. They would have driven the demon
out of that little girlCopy !req
315. and given that slattern
of a motherCopy !req
316. just what she's got coming!Copy !req
317. New England hospitality.Copy !req
318. Heard about it
my whole life.Copy !req
319. Finally got a chance
to experience it for myself.Copy !req
320. Well, you see
what I'm up against here,Copy !req
321. public sentiment and all.Copy !req
322. This family tree
of Melissa Turner's.Copy !req
323. Ayuh.Copy !req
324. It's all talk, isn't it?Copy !req
325. Oh, I never really asked.Copy !req
326. Why?Copy !req
327. Well, I think you needCopy !req
328. Well, I think you needCopy !req
329. to bring her in
to straighten this out.Copy !req
330. Under what pretext?Copy !req
331. That she might know something.Copy !req
332. About what?Copy !req
333. Well, about what I'm sureCopy !req
334. is a perfectly reasonable
explanation for all this.Copy !req
335. Ayuh.Copy !req
336. Well, I wish
I could help you out.Copy !req
337. You know, I'm just...Copy !req
338. on vacation.Copy !req
339. on vacation.Copy !req
340. Hi.Copy !req
341. Hi.Copy !req
342. Where are you headed
this time of night?Copy !req
343. We were invitedCopy !req
344. up to a place near the lake.
Uh-huh.Copy !req
345. A friend gave us the key.Copy !req
346. You got gear?
Food and water?Copy !req
347. We'll be all right.Copy !req
348. I just want to make
sure of that, ma'am.Copy !req
349. Winter's in full
force up there.Copy !req
350. Power's iffy.Copy !req
351. Just you and
the little one?Copy !req
352. For now.Copy !req
353. I want to go home, Mommy.Copy !req
354. We're going to go
camping, Polly.Copy !req
355. I want my bed!Copy !req
356. I want my records!Copy !req
357. Let's have fun.Copy !req
358. I'll just take your
license number, then.Copy !req
359. I'll just take your
license number, then.Copy !req
360. (weakly):
Help me.Copy !req
361. Hey!Copy !req
362. Hello?Copy !req
363. Who's there?Copy !req
364. Is anyone there?Copy !req
365. I want to play.Copy !req
366. I'm not afraid of you!Copy !req
367. Looks like she died
by her own hand.Copy !req
368. Big slice under the chin
opened up the artery.Copy !req
369. With what?Copy !req
370. Buddy, show her
the thing.Copy !req
371. Jack Bonsaint.Copy !req
372. Ayuh.Copy !req
373. Who?Copy !req
374. Oh, okay.Copy !req
375. Put him through.Copy !req
376. It's for you.Copy !req
377. Hello.Copy !req
378. Hey, morning, sunshine.
(thumping over phone)Copy !req
379. Hey, morning, sunshine.
(thumping over phone)Copy !req
380. Mulder?Copy !req
381. Yeah. I was a little worried
about you.Copy !req
382. I was wondering if you needed
my help up there.Copy !req
383. Needed your help on what?Copy !req
384. I left you a message
at the motel.Copy !req
385. You didn't get it?Copy !req
386. I was up and out this morning.Copy !req
387. Mulder?Copy !req
388. Yeah?Copy !req
389. What's that noise?
Where are you?Copy !req
390. I'm at home.Copy !req
391. Uh, they're doing construction
right out the window.Copy !req
392. Hold on a second. Hey, fellas!Copy !req
393. Can you just keep it down
for a second, maybe?Copy !req
394. Thank you!Copy !req
395. Thank you!Copy !req
396. Yeah, hey.Copy !req
397. I was... I was thinking
about this case.Copy !req
398. You know, maybe it's not
witchcraft after all.Copy !req
399. Maybe there's a... maybe there's
a scientific explanation.Copy !req
400. A scientific explanation?Copy !req
401. Yeah, a medical cause.Copy !req
402. Something called chorea.Copy !req
403. Dancing sickness.Copy !req
404. Yeah, Saint Vitus' Dance.Copy !req
405. It affects groups of people,
causing unexplained outburstsCopy !req
406. of uncontrollable jerks
and spasms.Copy !req
407. Yeah, and hasn't been seen
or diagnosedCopy !req
408. since the Middle Ages.Copy !req
409. (groans):
Oh.Copy !req
410. You're obviously not a fanCopy !req
411. of American Bandstand, Scully.Copy !req
412. Mulder?
Yeah?Copy !req
413. Thanks for the help.Copy !req
414. Hello?Copy !req
415. That your partner?Copy !req
416. Yep.Copy !req
417. I'm sorry for eavesdropping,Copy !req
418. but has he maybe got
some insight on this?Copy !req
419. No.Copy !req
420. I see.Copy !req
421. You know,
Chief Bonsaint—Copy !req
422. um, Jack...Copy !req
423. Can I call you Jack?Copy !req
424. I've been thinking
that maybe...Copy !req
425. maybe we need to explore
other possibilities.Copy !req
426. I'm not sure I understand.Copy !req
427. Well, maybe we need
to keep our minds openCopy !req
428. to... extreme
possibilities.Copy !req
429. Okay, but, uh,
aren't you on vacation?Copy !req
430. Let's have fun.Copy !req
431. Let's have fun.Copy !req
432. (weakly):
Melissa.Copy !req
433. Help me.Copy !req
434. No.Copy !req
435. Ah.Copy !req
436. Oh, my God.Copy !req
437. That looks like something
out of Jules Verne.Copy !req
438. We're supposed to eat that?Copy !req
439. A little late for anything else.Copy !req
440. Now, you said you hadCopy !req
441. some other directions
you were looking at?Copy !req
442. I've been thinking
about Melissa Turner.Copy !req
443. Now, you said that her husband
died in a boating accident?Copy !req
444. Now, you said that her husband
died in a boating accident?Copy !req
445. Ayuh.Copy !req
446. Well, was there anything
strange about that,Copy !req
447. about the way
that it happened?Copy !req
448. Well...Copy !req
449. it was never
quite explainedCopy !req
450. to anyone's
satisfaction, actually.Copy !req
451. How's that?Copy !req
452. How the man got a grappling hookCopy !req
453. poked clean through his skull.Copy !req
454. Was Melissa ever questioned
about that?Copy !req
455. Melissa?Copy !req
456. No. I don't see
how she'd be involved.Copy !req
