233. Your statement
will be entered into the record.Copy !req
234. With all due respect,
Mr. Chairman,Copy !req
235. I would like to finish.Copy !req
236. This is notCopy !req
237. why we are here today.Copy !req
238. Then why are we here, sir?Copy !req
239. Agent Scully, do you
or do you not knowCopy !req
240. the whereabouts
of Agent Mulder?Copy !req
241. Are you or are you not awareCopy !req
242. of Agent Mulder's

243. I respectfully refuse to answer
that question, sir, because...Copy !req
244. Agent Scully,Copy !req
245. you cannot refuse to answer
that question.Copy !req
246. because I believe
answering that questionCopy !req
247. because I believe

249. You don't seem to understand.Copy !req
250. Your response is not optional.Copy !req
251. You're an agent of the FBI.Copy !req
252. Well, then if I may please
finish my statement.Copy !req
253. "... that it is no longer
possible for me to carry outCopy !req
254. my duties as
an FBI agent."Copy !req
255. Are you tendering
your resignation, Agent Scully?Copy !req
256. Is that what you're
trying to say?Copy !req
257. No, sir.Copy !req
258. What I am saying...Copy !req
259. is that there is a culture
of lawlessnessCopy !req
260. that has prevented me
from doing my job—Copy !req
261. that has prevented me
from doing my job—Copy !req
262. that the real target of this
committee's investigationCopy !req
263. should be the men who are beyond
prosecution and punishment,Copy !req
264. the men whose secret policiesCopy !req
265. are behind the crimes
that you are investigating.Copy !req
266. You have a legal obligation
to answerCopy !req
267. the questions posed to you.Copy !req
268. Now, either you tell us
what you knowCopy !req
269. about Agent Mulder's whereaboutsCopy !req
270. or you'll be held
in contempt of Congress.Copy !req
271. No Russian.Copy !req
272. American?Copy !req
273. Tell your husband
I'm sorry about his truck.Copy !req
274. The test?Copy !req
275. Yeah.Copy !req
276. Yeah.Copy !req
277. They kill everybody
for the test.Copy !req
278. Why don't they kill you?Copy !req
279. My husband
makes deliveries.Copy !req
280. They spare our lives.Copy !req
281. But now, no truck.Copy !req
282. He's afraid.Copy !req
283. Well, we have to go now.Copy !req
284. No.Copy !req
285. They'll come looking for me.
They'll come looking for you.Copy !req
286. No.Copy !req
287. There are other ways.Copy !req
288. I don't know
what you're talking about.Copy !req
289. Grisha.Copy !req
290. No arm, no test.Copy !req
291. You don't understand.Copy !req
292. These tests—
this smallpox scarCopy !req
293. on your arm— it's some kind
of identification.Copy !req
294. You have to help me escape.Copy !req
295. I'll help you escape.Copy !req
296. You have to help me
get to St. Petersburg.Copy !req
297. You holding up?Copy !req
298. I've got plenty to read.Copy !req
299. I can understand you
protecting Agent Mulder, but...Copy !req
300. I can understand you
protecting Agent Mulder, but...Copy !req
301. It is not just Agent Mulder
that I am protecting, sir.Copy !req
302. Then what are you doing?Copy !req
303. We were called
before this committeeCopy !req
304. to answer questions
about a murder,Copy !req
305. about an intercepted
diplomatic pouch,Copy !req
306. a pouch that was to be delivered
to a prominent doctor—Copy !req
307. a woman who is now dead,Copy !req
308. as is the man who was delivering
the said pouch,Copy !req
309. the contents of which
have infected an exobiologistCopy !req
310. with a paralyzing toxin.Copy !req
311. Yet, what are we stuck on here?Copy !req
312. The whereabouts of Agent Mulder.Copy !req
313. You mean
it's the wrong question.Copy !req
314. Several of the men
on this committee are lawyers.Copy !req
315. It is my experience that lawyers
ask the wrong questionCopy !req
316. only when they don't want
the right answer.Copy !req
317. Unless Agent Mulder
has already foundCopy !req
318. the answers they're looking for.Copy !req
319. Or someone wants to make sure
that he doesn't find them.Copy !req
320. These are congressmen we're
talking about, Agent Scully.Copy !req
321. I know that, sir.Copy !req
322. And it is my natural inclination
to believe that they are actingCopy !req
323. in the best interest
of the truth.Copy !req
324. in the best interest
of the truth.Copy !req
325. But I am not inclinedCopy !req
326. to follow my own judgment
in this case.Copy !req
327. So you're going to follow
Agent Mulder's.Copy !req
328. Is that it?Copy !req
329. His name is Vassily Peskow.Copy !req
330. He was a KGB
line-X stringerCopy !req
331. working out of
Moscow Centre.Copy !req
332. But how could this be?Copy !req
333. How could the Russians knowCopy !req
334. we're working
on our own inoculation?Copy !req
335. Six of us knew.Copy !req
336. Dr. Charne-Sayre?Copy !req
337. She was trusted.Copy !req
338. Absolutely.Copy !req
339. Then I don't know.Copy !req
340. Find this man.Copy !req
341. Find him!Copy !req
342. My intelligence
sources are right,Copy !req
343. I think there's someone
who might save us the trouble.Copy !req
344. I think there's someone
who might save us the trouble.Copy !req
345. Mr. Chairman, may I?Copy !req
346. Carry on.Copy !req
347. Ms. Scully,Copy !req
348. you've had a good long time
to think about the questionCopy !req
349. that was asked
in our last session,Copy !req
350. and I want to...
give you the opportunityCopy !req
351. to answer that question
here todayCopy !req
352. so I can help
our good chairman hereCopy !req
353. so I can help
our good chairman hereCopy !req
354. to get on with
this proceeding.Copy !req
355. I can't answer
that question, sir.Copy !req
356. I'm going to ask you again.Copy !req
357. Where is Special Agent Mulder,
and why is he not here?Copy !req
358. I'd be happy to answer
your questions about the manCopy !req
359. carrying the diplomatic pouch.Copy !req
360. Agent Scully...Copy !req
361. About his murder
and my opinionCopy !req
362. about its connection
to the deathCopy !req
363. of Dr. Bonita Charne-Sayre of
the World Health Organization.Copy !req
364. Ms. Scully,
you'll get your chance...Copy !req
365. Or about the biotoxin being
transported within that pouch.Copy !req
366. Answer the question, Ms. Scully.Copy !req
367. Answer the question, Ms. Scully.Copy !req
368. What is the question?Copy !req
369. All right.Copy !req
370. Let's come to order.Copy !req
371. Agent Scully,Copy !req
372. do continue.Copy !req
373. Yes, sir.Copy !req
374. If I may, I would like to finish
making my point.Copy !req
375. What is your point, Ms. Scully?Copy !req
376. That the death
of Dr. Charne-Sayre,Copy !req
377. given her field of expertise,
strongly suggestsCopy !req
378. given her field of expertise,
strongly suggestsCopy !req
379. that she knew something about
the toxin, about its origins.Copy !req
380. And that knowledge may be
directly linkedCopy !req
381. to the murder of the manCopy !req
382. in Assistant Director Skinner's
apartment building.Copy !req
383. Ms. Scully?Copy !req
384. Yes, sir.Copy !req
385. Um, Assistant Director Skinner
has just informed meCopy !req
386. that there has been an accidentCopy !req
387. directly related...Copy !req
388. An accident?Copy !req
389. A doctor infected with the toxinCopy !req
390. has died
under suspicious circumstancesCopy !req
391. involving a theft
of evidence...Copy !req
392. involving a theft
of evidence...Copy !req
393. of the contents
of the diplomatic pouch.Copy !req
394. Well, we've gotten off
to a real fine start here.Copy !req
395. I'm going to recess nowCopy !req
396. until this new matter
can be explained,Copy !req
397. so we might then begin moving
in a forward direction.Copy !req
398. Mulder.Copy !req
399. Good to put
my arms around you.Copy !req
400. Both of them.Copy !req
401. When did you
get back here?Copy !req
402. It's been a long,
strange...Copy !req
403. Some other time.Copy !req
404. Think there's been enough
strangeness hereCopy !req
405. Think there's been enough
strangeness hereCopy !req
406. to sort through.Copy !req
407. Mulder, I've made
several connectionsCopy !req
408. about this toxin,
about what it might be.Copy !req
409. So have I.Copy !req
410. Sir, I need your permission
to book two airfaresCopy !req
411. to Boca Raton, Florida.Copy !req
412. It shouldn't take
more than 12, 15 hours.Copy !req
413. But in the event that it does,Copy !req
414. I need you to stall
the committee tomorrowCopy !req
415. for the purpose of...Copy !req
416. If you explain it to me,
Agent Scully,Copy !req
417. I'm going to have to
explain it to them.Copy !req
418. I suggest you do everything
in your power to make it backCopy !req
419. for tomorrow's
session.Copy !req
420. Or I can't help you.Copy !req
421. Boca Raton?Copy !req
422. Dr. Bonita Charne-Sayre
is a board memberCopy !req
423. and chief physicianCopy !req
424. for a chain of elder-care

425. around the country.Copy !req
426. Guess what one of her patients
died of in Boca Raton.Copy !req
427. Yes. What is it?Copy !req
428. Agents Mulder
and Scully.Copy !req
429. We need your permission
to come onto the premisesCopy !req
430. and speak with you
or any of your patients.Copy !req
431. What about?Copy !req
432. What about?Copy !req
433. May we come in, ma'am?Copy !req
434. Yes.Copy !req
435. When was the last time

447. I need you to show us all of
the entrances of the hospital.Copy !req
448. We've got to seal this
