The X-Files 4x2

1. All right, let's play some ball!

2. Swing it in here.

3. Strike!

4. In what league?

5. Hey, quit complaining. You know, we already had to

6. move home plate 'cause you bitched about the mud.

7. Nice pitch.

8. Come on, let him hear some chin music!

9. Do a fastball.

10. I got it! Whoa.

11. Hey, go get it.

12. Hey, come on!

13. It went on the Peacocks' property.

14. Here's another one.

15. All right, come on, let's play.

16. All right, come on.

17. Come on, baby, bring it home to mama.

18. Right here, put it there.

19. Come on, right here.

20. Come on, right here.

21. Just get on base.

22. Come on, baby, bring it home.

23. Come on. Right here.

24. That's it.

25. Ease up.

26. Come on.

27. Get to it!

28. Compression marks indicate the shovel blade

29. to be approximately six and three-quarters inches.

30. Uh, the angle of movement

31. and deeper indentation on the right side of the mark

32. suggest a left-handed individual.

33. I've collected soil specimens,

34. and although numerous shoe impressions remain

35. from the sandlot game,

36. I think a couple of dental stone casts

37. will prove invaluable to the investigation.

38. Meanwhile, I've quit the FBI

39. and become a spokesperson for the Ab Roller.

40. Smell that. It's perfume.

41. Eau de ball.

42. God, this brings back

43. a lot of memories— my sister...

44. all-day pickup games out on the Vineyard,

45. ride your bikes down to the beach, eat bologna sandwiches.

46. Only place you had to be on time was home for dinner.

47. Never had to lock your doors.

48. No modems, no faxes, no cell phones.

49. Mulder, if you had to do without a cell phone

50. Mulder, if you had to do without a cell phone

51. for two minutes, you'd lapse into catatonic schizophrenia.

52. Scully, you don't know me as well as you think you do.

53. You know, my work demands that I live in a big city,

54. but if I had to settle down, build a home,

55. be a place like this.

56. It would be like living in Mayberry.

57. Agents Mulder and Scully?

58. Hi.

59. I'm Sheriff Andy Taylor.

60. For real?

61. Can't thank you

62. or the Bureau enough for coming out.

63. It's just me and my deputy, and...

64. Hell, we never had anything of this nature.

65. Hell, we never had anything of this nature.

66. Do you have any thoughts or, uh, suspects?

67. Population of Home is only a few hundred.

68. Everybody knows everybody, pretty much.

69. Well, were there any local women who were pregnant

70. and now suddenly aren't?

71. No. I just saw Mary Ellen and Nancy.

72. They're both doing fine.

73. Hey, Sheriff, who lives in that house there?

74. Did you question them?

75. 'Cause they've been watching us the entire time.

76. 'Cause they've been watching us the entire time.

77. That farm belongs to the Peacock family.

78. Three boys now.

79. Well, men.

80. Guess you could call them human.

81. Their folks were in a bad car wreck

82. and we suppose they died.

83. You suppose?

84. Well, we tried to administer medical attention,

85. but the boys hauled the bodies away, took them home.

86. They haven't been seen in ten years,

87. so we suppose they died.

88. Have you questioned the men?

89. Have you questioned the men?

90. The Peacocks built that farm during the Civil War.

91. Still has no electricity,

92. no running water, no heat.

93. They grow their own food.

94. They raise their own pigs.

95. They breed their own cows.

96. Raise and breed their own stock,

97. if you get my meaning.

98. It is, however, the closest residence to the crime scene.

99. Those boys are feeble, Agent Scully, and sad.

100. Those boys are feeble, Agent Scully, and sad.

101. They wouldn't have any idea what you were talking about.

102. Well, they could've witnessed...

103. Look, this town is my home.

104. I love it.

105. It's quiet, peaceful.

106. I don't even wear a gun.

107. I've seen and heard some of the sick

108. and horrible things that go on outside my home.

109. At the same time,

110. I knew we couldn't stay hidden forever...

111. that one day the modern world would find us

112. and my hometown would change forever.

113. and my hometown would change forever.

114. And when I saw...

115. it in the ground,

116. I knew that day had come.

117. Now, I want to find whoever did this,

118. but in doing so, I'd like it

119. if the way things are around here

120. didn't have to change.

121. I know this is iffy Bureau jurisdiction,

122. but I didn't know where else to turn.

123. So I called the Bureau in Pittsburgh,

124. and when I described the victim,

125. they said I should see you.

126. they said I should see you.

127. Well, maybe we should take a look at the victim then.

128. We don't have a lab or a morgue.

129. I've got a room down here might be a bit cleaner.

130. By the way, this is my deputy, Barney.

131. Fife?

132. Paster.

133. Uh, I could use a bit more elbow room.

134. Thing is, see, folks have been dropping in

135. to ask about the case,

136. and I wouldn't want anybody to pop in and see this.

137. Well, you could just lock the door to the office.

138. Folks know I never lock the door.

139. They'd start rumors.

140. Oh, my God.

141. Mulder, it looks as if this child

142. has been afflicted by every rare birth defect known to science.

143. I mean, I'm going to have to order DNA typing

144. from the crime lab, but there appears to be

145. abnormalities associated with

146. Neu-Laxova syndrome, Meckel-Gruber syndrome,

147. exstrophy of the cloaca...

148. I mean, I don't even know where to begin.

149. I guess we can rule out murder as the cause of death, huh?

150. Well, I don't know about that.

151. There's evidence of occlusion

152. due to dirt in the nose and mouth...

153. indicating the dirt has been inhaled.

154. There's something rotten in Mayberry.

155. Imagine all a woman's hopes and dreams for her child,

156. and then nature turns so cruel.

157. What must a mother go through?

158. Apparently not much, in this case,

159. if she just threw it out with the trash.

160. I guess I was just projecting on myself.

161. Why? Is there a history

162. of genetic abnormalities in your family?

163. No.

164. Well, just find yourself a man with a spotless genetic makeup

165. and a really high tolerance for being second-guessed

166. and start pumping out the little uber-Scullys.

167. What about your family?

168. Hmm?

169. Aside from the need for corrective lenses

170. Aside from the need for corrective lenses

171. and a tendency to be abducted by extraterrestrials

172. involved in an international governmental conspiracy,

173. the Mulder family passes genetic muster.

174. Now, Scully, that child inside is a tragedy.

175. Some young parents— probably scared kids—

176. disposed of an unwanted birth.

177. In a very certain sense, infanticide is involved,

178. but this is not an FBI matter.

179. But from what I know about genetic defects, Mulder,

180. it's unlikely that child

181. is the result of a single polygenic mating.

182. is the result of a single polygenic mating.

183. We should let local authorities investigate that.

184. Those defects, Mulder,

185. are autosomal dominant disorders.

186. And from the degree, I'd say

187. mutations that go back many generations.

188. Scully, uh, Sheriff Taylor implied

189. that the boys in that family

190. were not really the type that could easily get dates.

191. But he also implied that they practiced inbreeding.

192. Now, we all have a natural instinct to propagate.

193. Do we?

194. There are theories which pose that our bodies

195. are simply vehicles for genes needing to replicate.

196. are simply vehicles for genes needing to replicate.

197. Yeah, but...

198. there's no sister.

199. The mother's been dead for ten years.

200. But if the instinct and the need is strong enough,

201. they will answer it any way that they can.

202. Now, a woman gave birth to that child, Mulder,

203. and my guess is against her will.

204. And kidnapping is a Bureau matter.

205. Hey, Scully.

206. I never saw you as a mother before.

207. No. There's no probable cause.

208. They match.

209. This room alone should convict them.

210. Yeah, if we can find them.

211. They probably bolted when they saw us coming.

212. We'll alert Sheriff Taylor

213. to issue a warrant for the brothers' arrest,

214. put out a county-wide APB.

215. And check any prior missing persons for a woman.

216. And check the vehicle identification number

217. on that Cadillac.

218. If the mother's alive,

219. they probably took her with them.

220. they probably took her with them.

221. I've issued descriptions

222. and arrest warrants for George Raymond Peacock,

223. approximate age: 30;

224. Sherman Nathaniel Peacock, approximate age: 26;

225. and Edmund Creighton Peacock, 42.

226. What about missing persons reports?

227. Deputy Paster's on it right now.

228. Sheriff, do you recall over the last eight to ten months

229. any vehicles you found and considered to be abandoned

230. but which might actually belong to kidnap victims?

231. We saw a white Cadillac in the Peacocks' front yard.

232. We saw a white Cadillac in the Peacocks' front yard.

233. We get so many of those, Agent Scully.

234. Car breaks down, they move on.

235. Well, uh, we'll check on those in the morning.

236. You get some sleep, Sheriff.

237. You, too, Miss Scully.

238. Good night.

239. Whoa! Don't move. Don't move.

240. Damn.

241. You still planning on making a home here?

242. Nah. Not if I can't get the Knicks game.

243. Well, just as long as a brutal infanticide

244. doesn't weigh into your decision.

245. Good night, Mulder.

246. Good night, Mulder.

247. Night, Mom.

248. Mulder, this lock is broken.

249. Oh, you don't have to lock your doors around here.

250. Andy? What are you doing?

251. Taking one good last look around

252. before it all changes.

253. Oh, honey, come to bed, huh?

254. It will still be here in the morning.

255. Come on, honey.

256. The eldest dominant male in the pack

257. moves in to ensure that the prey has been killed,

258. encircling the prey as a signal to the others it is safe to...

259. Andy, what is it?

260. Hide. Under the bed.

261. What?

262. I'm going for the gun.

263. Big American car.

264. I, uh...

265. I came over to give him these reports, and, uh...

266. and found them.

267. The, uh...

268. the owner of the Cadillac was, uh...

269. the owner of the Cadillac was, uh...

270. was found and contacted in Baltimore.

271. She... she ran out of gas and just left the car on the 119.

272. Other, uh,

273. possible missing persons are in the file,

274. and, uh, this came from the federal crime lab overnight.

275. Where are they?

276. They're, uh... inside.

277. His chest is one big hematoma.

278. His chest is one big hematoma.

279. There's wood shavings embedded in what's left of the cranium.

280. They really went caveman on them.

281. Damn it. The lab screwed up the DNA tests on the infant.

282. Multiple maldistribution, chromosomal breakage,

283. maldivision of the centromere...

284. You suspected these abnormalities.

285. Yeah, but this shows far too many gene imbalances.

286. It would have to be a lab error.

287. This child's cells would have

288. had to divide triple-fold in cell metaphase.

289. Triple?

290. Hey, Scully,

291. what if each of the Peacock brothers

292. was the father of that child?

293. Mulder,

294. only one sperm in thousands

295. from a single individual can penetrate

296. an ovum membrane,

297. let alone from three separate males.

298. What if generations of autosomal breeding

299. could produce such a mutation?

300. No. For that to even be remotely possible,

301. No. For that to even be remotely possible,

302. there'd have to be a weakening of the ovum,

303. and would have to come from a female member

304. of the Peacock family— and there aren't any left.

305. Well, in any case, they haven't ventured too far from home.

306. We should request backups from Pittsburgh and go pick them up.

307. Mulder, that would take a whole day.

308. I think they may have a woman captive up there

309. who may have sustained life-threatening injuries

310. while giving birth.

311. Who knows what those men have done to her?

312. I think that we should go up there right now.

313. Yeah, but we're outnumbered.

314. We could further endanger the victim by doing that.

315. I'll take you out there.

316. Then it's three against three.

317. And this...

318. this should give us the advantage.

319. Oh, that was just a little bit

320. too Chuck Bronson for me, Scully.

321. Hang on a second, Mulder.

322. Why... why would the Peacocks kill Sheriff Taylor?

323. He didn't even question them about the buried child.

324. They probably heard about the warrants

325. issued for their arrest.

326. But how would they know?

327. He issued the warrants by phone.

328. Unless they overheard us talking about it, how would they know?

329. Unless they overheard us talking about it, how would they know?

330. No, we searched that house, Scully; they weren't home.

331. Exactly.

332. How could they know?

333. I'm hungry.

334. All right.

335. I'm ready.

336. You look fine.

337. They'll be coming now.

338. We knew this day was going to happen.

339. That they'd try to change the way things are.

340. All we can do about changing things

341. is be ready for it...

342. be ready for them.

343. Let them know this is our home

344. Let them know this is our home

345. and this is the way it's going to stay.

346. Yep, they're up there.

347. I'll take the front.

348. Their attention will be taken by the uniform.

349. You two can approach around back.

350. Are these vests absolutely necessary, Deputy?

351. Are these vests absolutely necessary, Deputy?

352. I've seen them fire muskets before.

353. I, for one, am not getting taken out by some antique.

354. (quietly): This is Paster.

355. I'm at the front of the house.

356. We're getting into position.

357. I don't see anybody inside.

358. I'm going in.

359. Paster, no!

360. Paster's dead.

361. The brothers moved in like a pack of animals.

362. The brothers moved in like a pack of animals.

363. The eldest will move in to assure the prey

364. has been killed, encircling the prey as a signal to the others

365. that it's safe to approach.

366. What we're witnessing, Scully,

367. is undiluted animal behavior—

368. mankind, absent its own creation of civilization,

369. technology and information,

370. regressed to an almost prehistoric state,

371. obeying only the often savage laws of nature.

372. We're outsiders invading the den,

373. trying to take away their one chance at reproducing,

374. which we're going to do.

375. which we're going to do.

376. Even though we have the firearms,

377. I imagine the place is rigged with traps.

378. Yeah, but we can try to divert them out of the house.

379. Scully, would you think less of me as a man

380. Scully, would you think less of me as a man

381. if I told you I was kind of excited right now?

382. Is there some secret farmer trick

383. to getting these things moving?

384. I don't know.

385. Nah ram ewe.

386. (bleating): Nah ram ewe!

387. Yeah, that'll work.

388. I baby-sat my nephew this weekend.

389. He watches Babe 15 times a day.

390. And people call me Spooky.

391. Federal agents!

392. Is anybody in here?

393. FBI!

394. Is anybody in this house?

395. Is anybody in this house?

396. Is there anybody in here?

397. Oh, no.

398. No, get out! Go away!

399. It's all right, ma'am! We're federal agents!

400. We're here to help you! We're here to help you!

401. Go! Get out of here!

402. Ma'am!

403. Let's move the bed.

404. Go away! Get away!

405. They've got her strapped

406. to some kind of board or something.

407. to some kind of board or something.

408. Get away!

409. Calm down.

410. Take it easy, ma'am!

411. Take it easy.

412. It's all right. It's all over.

413. We're from the FBI.

414. We're here to help.

415. W-We're going to make sure that you're safe.

416. W-We're... we're going to make sure that you get home.

417. Mulder, she already is home.

418. Mulder, she already is home.

419. It's Mrs. Peacock.

420. She's their mother.

421. Mulder, where are you going?

422. Brothers may have heard the screams.

423. I'm going to check on their position.

424. What about her?

425. She's not going anywhere.

426. I mean, we may not be able to remove her, Mulder.

427. She doesn't appear to be held against her will.

428. I mean, she appears to be, but I don't believe she is.

429. I'm sure she's an accessory. At least she aided and abetted.

430. We're only assuming.

431. We can't prove anything.

432. The way I think it goes here

433. is that Edmund is the brother and father of the other two.

434. Which means that when Edmund was a kid,

435. he could ground the other two for playing with his things?

436. The brothers killed three people, Scully.

437. Tell her we're going to bring them in,

438. and try convincing her that she's the one way

439. they can get out of this without any of her boys getting hurt.

440. All right, I'm going to keep an eye on them.

441. Scully, w-watch your step.

442. This place is rigged.

443. Mrs. Peacock?

444. Mrs. Peacock...

445. you are in immediate need of medical attention.

446. Agent Mulder and I are here to help you.

447. This is our home.

448. Why leave it?

449. Whatever pain you may feel...

450. Don't feel pain.

451. Runs in the family.

452. Have to check the boys, see if they hurt themselves.

453. What about you?

454. Even after the accident?

455. Right arm was torn off.

456. Right arm was torn off.

457. Saw it sitting there across my dead husband's lap.

458. Boys took me home...

459. sewed me up just like the family learnt

460. in the War of Northern Aggression.

461. Whole time, felt the same as if been making breakfast.

462. They're such good boys.

463. Mrs. Peacock, they murdered Sheriff Taylor and his wife.

464. Mrs. Peacock, they murdered Sheriff Taylor and his wife.

465. And Deputy Paster.

466. I can tell you don't have no children.

467. Maybe one day you'll learn.

468. the pride...

469. the love...

470. when you know your boy

471. will do anything for his mother.

472. Scully?

473. Federal agent! I'm armed!

474. Stop, or I'll fire!

475. Mulder!

476. I've got the mother!

477. Where's the other brother—

478. Edmund?

479. Mulder, look.

480. Mulder, look.

481. Marks on the floor.

482. All right, thank you.

483. I looked everywhere; they're both gone.

484. I've notified the state police and the highway patrol.

485. They've put out an APB on the Peacocks,

486. and they're setting up a roadblock

487. over a 30-mile radius.

488. In time, we'll catch them.

489. In time, we'll catch them.

490. I think time already caught them, Scully.

491. MRS. There, there.

492. Sherman and George were good boys.

493. We should be proud.

494. And you got to know, Edmund, you can't keep a Peacock down.

495. And you got to know, Edmund, you can't keep a Peacock down.

496. There'll be more.

497. One day, there'll be more.

498. Now we have to move on, start a new family—

499. one we'll be proud of.

500. Find a new place to call ours.

501. A new home.

502. A brand-new home.

503. I made this!
