The X-Files 4x16

1. That many of you here tonight came home

2. not to a hero's welcome

3. but to the hostility of the American people

4. is a shameful fact of history.

5. One that I will never understand or forgive.

6. But it also underscores our sacred duty,

7. But it also underscores our sacred duty,

8. not just today but forever,

9. to honor those who served with honor

10. and to remember those who fell—

11. men and women whose ultimate sacrifice

12. must never be forgotten.

13. There is probably no audience

14. that understands better

15. that our freedom is not free.

16. All right, you're my eyes out there.

17. All right, you're my eyes out there.

18. Talk to me. Positions report.

19. Sector three clear.

20. No sign of him in four.

21. Sector six, report.

22. Mulder.

23. He's here. I feel him.

24. Then where is he?

25. Hold on.

26. I think I have him in section four.

27. Can you confirm that, Scully?

28. Positive I.D. He's heading towards you, three.

29. Positions hold. Three and four, do you have eye contact?

30. I have him in three.

31. He's coming towards you, Scully.

32. Don't take your eyes off him, Scully.

33. Mulder, he saw me.

34. He's heading towards the sound booth.

35. Copy that. I'm cutting him off.

36. Talk to me, people. Does anybody have him?

37. Talk to me, people. Does anybody have him?

38. This memorial is a place where we can come

39. and thank those men and women who died...

40. What's happening, Scully?

41. I'm closing on him.

42. Do you have him in three?

43. Negative.

44. Scully.

45. Scully!

46. I lost him.

47. You got him, three?

48. I don't see him, Scully.

49. What's happening, Agent Scully?

50. I can't see him anywhere.

51. I can't see him anywhere.

52. He must be headed your way.

53. You got him, Mulder?

54. Not yet.

55. I got him.

56. I lost him.

57. Pick him up, Mulder. He's right in front of you.

58. He's got a gun!

59. General, get off the stage!

60. I can't see him.

61. I can't see him.

62. Left side! You're good!

63. Good! Good! Good!

64. Morning, sir.

65. All right, let's go!

66. All right, let's go!

67. Go! Go! Go!

68. Who the hell are you?

69. How did you get in here?

70. What the hell are you...?

71. Lieutenant General! Sir!

72. Lieutenant General Peter MacDougal

73. was shot dead at extreme close range at 0600 this morning.

74. FBI forensics reports

75. the wound was not self-inflicted.

76. The murder weapon hasn't been recovered.

77. The murder weapon hasn't been recovered.

78. The general's driver,

79. Private First Class Gus Burkholder,

80. is currently being held on suspicion of murder.

81. Well, it says here NAA tests confirmed

82. the private did not do the shooting.

83. There is suspicion of an accomplice based on

84. the one piece of evidence found at the crime scene—

85. a so-called death card used by soldiers

86. in Vietnam to mark their kills,

87. and by Private Burkholder's possible ties

88. to a radical paramilitary group called the Right Hand,

89. whose stated aim is violent revolution.

90. After speaking with General Bloch,

91. he believes we have a high probability of opportunity

92. he believes we have a high probability of opportunity

93. for a group like this.

94. A unique situation that could result in

95. the very public loss of lives.

96. Dozens of high-ranking military officials

97. are in Washington today for are-dedication

98. of the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial.

99. Unless we can determine a clear motive,

100. we will consider any one of them to be a target.

101. What if Private Burkholder is telling the truth,

102. that he's innocent?

103. Until we can find another suspect,

104. the FBI will pursue the Right Hand

105. and their leader, an ex-marine named Denny Markham,

106. in a preemptive strategy to put a stop

107. to any of the plans they may have made.

108. to any of the plans they may have made.

109. You all have Markham's file in front of you.

110. For obvious reasons,

111. our strategy includes

112. keeping this from the media.

113. You'll be working in teams of two.

114. If you encounter any resistance, do not engage.

115. Surveil and call for backup.

116. Agent Chandler has your assignments

117. and your field warrants.

118. We have less than 12 hours to prevent

119. any further execution or loss of life. Understood?

120. All right, Beckwith and Fontana,

121. you're going to Virginia Beach.

122. Jackson and Miller, you're going to Alexandria.

123. Was that for the benefit of the general,

124. or have you been able to develop a real strategy?

125. or have you been able to develop a real strategy?

126. Right now, I'm flying by the seat of my pants.

127. You mean there's no procedure outlined

128. for an invisible assassin?

129. Did you talk to Private Burkholder?

130. I interviewed him and convinced him to take a polygraph test.

131. And?

132. He passed.

133. The nature of his claims would suggest a false positive.

134. The tester admitted that the results are highly interpretive.

135. You heard his story, Mulder?

136. Yeah. I found his story compelling, personally,

137. but then again, I believe the Warren Commission.

138. Well, if I have to devise a strategy around that story,

139. then there is no strategy.

140. Somebody killed the general,

141. Somebody killed the general,

142. which means somebody is not telling the truth.

143. The man who heads the Right Hand, Markham—

144. do you have a warrant for him?

145. Yes. Why?

146. Let Mulder and I serve it.

147. One misstep...

148. Markham smells a shakedown, he's going to disappear

149. or find another way to push the button.

150. And I've already seen more dead soldiers

151. than I ever want to see.

152. Mr. Markham?

153. Who is it?

154. Agents Mulder and Scully with the FBI.

155. What do you want?

156. It's extremely urgent

157. that we talk to you right now, sir.

158. that we talk to you right now, sir.

159. Mr. Markham?

160. Gate's unlocked.

161. Now, you wanted to see me about...?

162. The murder of General Peter MacDougal.

163. Am I under suspicion?

164. No, but your group is,

165. and Private First Class Gus Burkholder.

166. Is that a name I should know?

167. He's on the mailing list for the Right Hand.

168. 2,000 names on that list.

169. I can't keep track of every one of them.

170. Well, we'd like to go over that list with you, sir.

171. No way in hell you'll be getting that from me.

172. We already have a copy, if you'll just come with us.

173. I'm not going anywhere.

174. Sir, we have a warrant for your arrest

175. if you don't cooperate.

176. if you don't cooperate.

177. Under the new anti-terrorism law,

178. we can and will hold you

179. until we get the information we want.

180. There goes the neighborhood.

181. You can make this as easy or as hard as you wish, sir.

182. The Right Hand believes in empowering the individual

183. over a corrupt and corrupting federal government.

184. over a corrupt and corrupting federal government.

185. We're prepared for the time

186. when armed resistance will be necessary.

187. Lives will have to be sacrificed.

188. But that day has not yet come.

189. Would you take

190. a polygraph, Mr. Markham?

191. My word's good enough.

192. What's your "word" on this?

193. Where'd that come from?

194. I'd like to ask you that.

195. More men are going to die.

196. This guy's a one-man threat to national security.

197. I bet he's got more weapons and ammo

198. than most Third World armies.

199. He told me to pull this photo

200. from his file cabinet. Who's this?

201. He says that's who killed General MacDougal.

202. Name's Nathaniel Teager.

203. 26 confirmed solo enemy kills.

204. Veritable killing machine,

205. left for dead by the same government that created him.

206. left for dead by the same government that created him.

207. Left for dead?

208. He belonged to Green Beret detachment B-11—

209. squad known as the Bloody Sabers.

210. 1971, the B-11 was being transported

211. in country when their chopper was shot down.

212. There were no survivors.

213. When was this photo taken?

214. December 1995.

215. Just a few hours after the Right Hand liberated him

216. from a P.O.W. camp just outside the U-Minh Forest.

217. Mr. Markham, I'm sure that you're aware that in 1973,

218. the Defense Department determined

219. that there were no more P.O.W.s in Vietnam.

220. that there were no more P.O.W.s in Vietnam.

221. Maybe that's why they tried to kidnap Sergeant Teager

222. when we brought him home.

223. The government kidnapped a U.S. prisoner of war?

224. I said they tried.

225. Had their commandos board our plane in San Diego,

226. but when they broke into the cargo hold

227. where we hid him, he was already gone.

228. I never did figure out how.

229. I think I've heard enough.

230. You don't believe him, do you?

231. But what if he's telling the truth?

232. A phantom P.O.W. left for dead

233. comes back to avenge the injustices?

234. Maybe the war ain't over, Scully.

235. Well, maybe not Denny Markham's war.

236. Well, given the facts of the case

237. and Private Burkholder's polygraph test,

238. it's the closest thing to an explanation that we've got.

239. Or it's just a clever story

240. being proffered as a cover-up for what is actually

241. an elaborately orchestrated conspiracy.

242. Well, there is that possibility, too.

243. Well, there is that possibility, too.

244. Let Markham take the polygraph.

245. And what if he passes?

246. He won't.

247. Mrs. Davenport?

248. Renee Davenport?

249. Yes.

250. Wife of Lance Corporal Gary Davenport of the Special Forces?

251. Yes. I'm sorry. Do I know you?

252. No, ma'am.

253. I've come to act in his behalf

254. for the reason that Gary remains prisoner of war.

255. for the reason that Gary remains prisoner of war.

256. Gary's dead.

257. No, ma'am.

258. May you forgive me,

259. as you forgive him as a man and a soldier,

260. for restoring the honor and memory of the B-11.

261. Oh, my God.

262. Where did you get these?

263. Who gave you these?

264. Who gave you these?

265. Hey, where are you?

266. My God.

267. Where are you? Where'd you go?

268. Is it true she made a positive I.D. from the photo?

269. From a bad fax of it.

270. Do you have the actual photo with you?

271. Yeah, and more copies to distribute.

272. We have event security checking out all vendors and workmen.

273. We've got it out to local law enforcement,

274. but not to the exclusion of the other suspects.

275. I thought she I.D.'d Teager.

276. She did, but I cannot authorize

277. or promote a strategy here that's going to target

278. a soldier who's officially dead.

279. a soldier who's officially dead.

280. Because his name's on a wall?

281. No, because I just got off the phone with

282. the Army forensics lab where

283. Sergeant Nathaniel Teager's remains have been stored

284. since they were recovered from the crash site.

285. They have his remains?

286. Markham may have staged this whole thing—

287. finding somebody vulnerable like her to pass off his lies.

288. Why go to all that trouble?

289. To create a decoy to divert our attention,

290. which seems to be working.

291. Well, this woman saw someone.

292. I want to know who.

293. Yes, that's him.

294. Yes, that's him.

295. Are you sure?

296. Everything he said made it sound

297. like Gary was still alive.

298. That can't be true, can it?

299. You say he just disappeared?

300. That's what's so strange.

301. One minute, he's standing right in front of me,

302. and then he's gone.

303. What if he was telling the truth?

304. What if Gary is alive?

305. What if Gary is alive?

306. (sobbing): I've tried to get on with my life.

307. I've remarried.

308. What am I supposed to tell my husband now?

309. What am I supposed to do?

310. Oh, your eye.

311. What?

312. Oh, my God.

313. What's happening to me?

314. I think you just burst a capillary.

315. My God. Scully?

316. Hold a tissue there.

317. Can we get Mrs. Davenport an eye exam?

318. An eye exam? For what?

319. By all accounts,

320. the man we're looking for— the man she saw—

321. the man we're looking for— the man she saw—

322. has a knack for vanishing in plain sight.

323. Maybe there's a connection.

324. Mulder, what she has is

325. a simple sub-conjunctival hemorrhage.

326. It's probably brought on by her emotional state.

327. And how did she reach that emotional state?

328. What about you?

329. What are you going to do?

330. I'm going to see if we're really chasing a dead man.

331. Agent Mulder?

332. Yes.

333. Yes.

334. Dr. Benjamin Keyser.

335. I think I located what you're looking for.

336. It's a small miracle I found it, actually.

337. The record had been partially destroyed.

338. Two bicuspids and a molar.

339. This was all that was left of Teager at the crash site?

340. I've seen findings made with far less.

341. And these are Sergeant Teager's teeth.

342. I cross-checked them with his dental records.

343. Is there any way to tell how the teeth were extracted?

344. Well, I would assume they were pulled.

345. On each of these teeth,

346. there's a pronounced scoring in the enamel.

347. there's a pronounced scoring in the enamel.

348. Here, see for yourself.

349. Can you tell if that was pre- or postmortem?

350. No, not really.

351. Well, then this is presumptive, isn't it?

352. A finding of death based on inconclusive evidence.

353. Actually, it was noted right here, even underlined.

354. "Inconclusive."

355. Whoever signed off on this death chose to ignore the facts, huh?

356. I couldn't tell you who that was.

357. As I said, these records were partially destroyed.

358. Is there any other way to tell?

359. Is there any other way to tell?

360. Well, based on the records

361. and the reports filed at the same time,

362. we could make a pretty good guess.

363. Yes.

364. Yes, just a moment.

365. It's for you, sir.

366. Hello.

367. General Steffan, this is

368. Special Agent Fox Mulder with the FBI.

369. I'm calling because we have reason to believe

370. that your life may be in danger.

371. What are you talking about?

372. That the person or persons responsible for the murder

373. That the person or persons responsible for the murder

374. of General MacDougal this morning

375. may have chosen to target you.

376. Based on what information?

377. Based on a death certificate

378. that you may have put your signature on—

379. a death certificate for Sergeant Nathaniel Teager.

380. I don't know anything about that,

381. but I'm on my way to the Pentagon right now.

382. Listen, sir, I'm ten minutes away.

383. I'm going to have to ask you to trust

384. my risk assessment on this and take every caution.

385. Right.

386. Okay, do you know your driver, sir?

387. Yes. He drives me all the time.

388. Good. I'm going to put two FBI agents there

389. Good. I'm going to put two FBI agents there

390. to escort you, just as a precaution.

391. They have my mobile phone number, okay?

392. How many of you know what a pentagon is?

393. Nobody?

394. A pentagon is a shape with five sides,

395. and the Pentagon is just that.

396. We're standing right now in section "A."

397. Built in 1941 through an act of Congress,

398. the Pentagon is virtually a city in itself.

399. the Pentagon is virtually a city in itself.

400. Almost 23,000 people...

401. General, sir? Good afternoon.

402. Thanks.

403. All clear, General.

404. Thank you, gentlemen, that'll be all.

405. Mulder.

406. Mulder, I'm at the Georgetown Medical Center.

407. Did you find out what caused her eye to hemorrhage?

408. No, but the ophthalmologist discovered something—

409. something called a transient scotoma.

410. Scotoma?

411. A floating blind spot.

412. Well, what would cause that?

413. Well, any number of diseases can scar the retina:

414. diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration.

415. diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration.

416. In turn, they create a visual field deficit.

417. (metal detector beeps) Um...

418. Well, does she have any of those diseases?

419. It doesn't appear so.

420. Well, don't you think it's odd, Scully,

421. that she'd have a blind spot

422. that she wouldn't... that she wouldn't have noticed before?

423. Thanks.

424. Well, not necessarily.

425. The processes of the brain fill in,

426. and the visual cortex compensates conceptually.

427. Well, that might account for Teager's vanishing.

428. I asked the doctor that, and he laughed at me.

429. (line beeps) Oh, hold on a second, Scully.

430. (line beeps) Oh, hold on a second, Scully.

431. It's Mulder.

432. Agent Mulder, this is General Steffan.

433. I found something on my desk— something very troubling.

434. Where are you?

435. In my office.

436. Uh, the agents I assigned to you— are they with you?

437. No. No, they're just outside.

438. I want you to call them into your office right now, General.

439. Who put this here?

440. Listen to me very carefully, okay?

441. I'm on my way over there...

442. General Steffan? General Steffan?

443. Call an ambulance.

444. The general's secretary had been in here organizing his desk

445. no more than 15 minutes before the general was shot.

446. He never saw this card,

447. and he never saw anyone go in and out of the office,

448. aside from the general and the agents assigned to him.

449. From my cursory exam, nothing about the general

450. can explain your narrative.

451. I was on the phone with the man.

452. He was shot at close range in the forehead.

453. I think he would've seen the shooter.

454. I think he would've seen the shooter.

455. Not necessarily.

456. He could have turned and been surprised.

457. There's far too little forensic evidence yet to know, Mulder.

458. No scotoma?

459. It's beyond my capabilities here

460. to make that kind of analysis.

461. I think it's beyond all our capabilities,

462. but somebody's got to explain how a four-star general

463. could be shot and killed in what is symbolically

464. the best-guarded military base in the country.

465. Sir?

466. I need both of you out here

467. to see something... now.

468. That's him.

469. That's Teager.

470. Whoever it is, I want to know

471. how the hell this happened.

472. Neither of us has a clear explanation, sir.

473. You were on your way here, Agent Mulder.

474. You knew the general was in danger.

475. I did everything I could; I put two agents with him.

476. This is insanity. This man is killing at will.

477. That's correct, sir.

478. He's unstoppable?

479. Is that what you're telling me?

480. I think that Teager has an ability,

481. the ability to effectively erase himself

482. from the visual field.

483. If he's invisible, then why is

484. he on this video clear as day?

485. he on this video clear as day?

486. I think that he can hide himself from human sight

487. by manipulating something that Scully has referred to

488. as naturally occurring:

489. a blind spot.

490. That is conjecture, sir.

491. You mean even if I'm looking at him...

492. You might not be able to see him.

493. Isn't it true that U.S. soldiers

494. have reported the unexplained appearance

495. and disappearance of VC guerrillas?

496. I've read the dispatches myself.

497. Maybe Teager learned something

498. from his captors in 25 years of isolation.

499. I've got four miles

500. of crowded streets where 31 military officers

501. of crowded streets where 31 military officers

502. are staging for a parade into Freedom Square.

503. If what you're saying has any truth to it,

504. I can't protect these men.

505. Call it off.

506. Parade or no parade, those men are going to be vulnerable.

507. The only way to stop this killer is to catch him.

508. How do we do that?

509. By finding his next victim before he does.

510. I am Major General Benjamin Bloch.

511. He did it again, didn't he?

512. I told them he would.

513. According to the FBI,

514. you know the man they're looking for.

515. Maybe you can tell me why they can't seem to find him.

516. Maybe you can tell me why they can't seem to find him.

517. Same reason you can't.

518. Which I imagine

519. is the same reason you're here right now.

520. I am here because people are dying—

521. soldiers who dedicated their lives

522. to the defense of this country.

523. I guess that's one way of looking at it.

524. As it stands, you are facing

525. charges of conspiracy to commit homicide and treason.

526. But if both those fall through, there is still

527. enough evidence to convict you

528. enough evidence to convict you

529. for possession and transport of illegal arms.

530. Are you threatening me?

531. No.

532. I am offering you a deal—

533. for you and the people you represent.

534. If you think I've got any sway with Teager, you're mistaken.

535. I just need to know what he wants.

536. You know what he wants,

537. and we both know you can't give it to him,

538. not without dragging

539. not without dragging

540. that nice clean uniform of yours through the mud.

541. Whatever you do to me

542. won't change his mind, General.

543. He's sending a message and making damn sure

544. everyone hears it loud and clear.

545. Men!

546. Mark time!

547. You told me you were in a rush.

548. You told me you were in a rush.

549. Crosstown traffic's all snarled up because of the parade.

550. You need information on American prisoners of war.

551. A man named Teager.

552. I have no information on him.

553. Then why did you come here?

554. Tell me what you know.

555. A P.O.W. named Teager may be back home

556. carrying out death sentences against the men

557. that left him in Vietnam.

558. Who are those men?

559. Generals— Steffan and MacDougal.

560. They have a connection.

561. What is that?

562. A recent news story—

563. extremely embarrassing to the U.S. military—

564. extremely embarrassing to the U.S. military—

565. about the disposing of South Vietnamese soldiers.

566. Men employed by our government as spies and commandoes

567. and then left behind enemy lines to certain capture and death.

568. The operation was disavowed,

569. and their lives were erased from the records.

570. By a secret three-man commission who may now be facing charges,

571. whose testimonies might be used

572. in the calculation of reparations.

573. Are you saying that our government

574. wants these officers dead?

575. Why would they ask us to protect them?

576. Because they know you can't.

577. Because they know you can't.

578. Well, who's the third man?

579. I need a name.

580. General Bloch!

581. General, sir! Stop the car!

582. What's going on here?

583. We need you to get out of the car, sir, for your own safety.

584. Why? We just received information

585. your life might be in danger.

586. From who?

587. Shooter!

588. Get down!

589. Where? Where is he?

590. He was there.

591. I saw him.

592. It was him, sir.

593. It was the man in the photo.

594. Are you sure?

595. I saw him, sir.

596. It was him.

597. Are you sure?

598. Right, mount!

599. when you find out.

600. Scully. I heard what happened.

601. They told me you saved General Bloch's life.

602. He's doing all right. He's over there.

603. They told me you saw somebody on the parade route?

604. I'm not really sure.

605. You saw him, didn't you?

606. You saw Teager.

607. I told you, I'm not sure, Mulder.

608. Yeah, but you drew your gun, Scully.

609. You must have been a little more convinced than that.

610. How are you so convinced

611. that General Bloch was his next target?

612. I found out about General Bloch from the same person

613. who told me that we were never meant to save Bloch's life,

614. or the other generals.

615. What are you talking about?

616. This case— why do you think it was dumped in your lap?

617. Unless heading up an anti-terrorism detail

618. Unless heading up an anti-terrorism detail

619. is all of a sudden part of your job description.

620. Well, that doesn't prove that he was set up.

621. No, they knew about Teager; they've known that

622. he'd be unstoppable from the beginning.

623. You saying that they wanted Skinner to fail?

624. And us. Given the nature of the case,

625. they knew that you'd bring us in.

626. Mulder, the government is not about

627. to sacrifice the lives of ranking military officers

628. just to discredit us.

629. Discrediting us in this case is only secondary.

630. Secondary to what?

631. To maintaining their secret policy

632. of denial about P.O.W.s,

633. which required silencing the men who made that policy.

634. I think Denny Markham's story is having its intended effect.

635. I think Denny Markham's story is having its intended effect.

636. I think you're buying into the lie, Mulder.

637. No, Denny Markham may be the only man in this case

638. who's telling the truth.

639. But if you don't believe me,

640. why don't you ask General Bloch himself?

641. Ask me what?

642. Look, I can't wait around here any longer.

643. I'm delivering the keynote address in five minutes.

644. You might want to reconsider. He won't reconsider.

645. Not going out there would be an admission of guilt.

646. We still have reason to believe that your life is in danger.

647. It's your job to protect me still, isn't it?

648. That's what we're trying to do.

649. That's what we're trying to do.

650. Then do your job.

651. General!

652. All right, people, listen up,

653. because we don't have much time here.

654. You all know your responsibilities.

655. You have your sectors and your assignments.

656. WOMAN (over P.A.): It gives me great pleasure

657. to introduce a very special man.

658. Wounded and decorated for gallantry in Vietnam,

659. Wounded and decorated for gallantry in Vietnam,

660. he had an idea...

661. Teager.

662. Hey, man, is that you?

663. Hey, where are you going?

664. Hey.

665. Hey. Hey, where are you going?

666. the founder of the Vietnam Veteran Memorial Fund,

667. Mr. Jan Scruggs.

668. Teager.

669. MAN (over P.A.): Welcome, ladies and gentlemen.

670. MAN (over P.A.): Welcome, ladies and gentlemen.

671. We are here to rededicate this memorial

672. on this important day.

673. We especially remember

674. those who cannot share this day with us,

675. the soldiers...

676. Hey, Teager.

677. It's me, Leo Danzinger.

678. I saw you, man.

679. Where are you?

680. Behind you.

681. Behind you.

682. I... I thought you were dead.

683. That's what they told us.

684. Because that's what they wanted you to believe.

685. I don't understand.

686. You will.

687. After tonight.

688. What are you talking about?

689. I waited for them, Leo.

690. I waited for them to come.

691. But they never came.

692. Maybe they didn't know.

693. Maybe they didn't know.

694. They knew.

695. They just figured let me die off.

696. It was easier than admitting the truth.

697. It's all over, Teager.

698. It's been over for a long time now.

699. Not for me.

700. And not for the others.

701. You're telling me there's more?

702. What are you doing, man?

703. Where are you?

704. MAN (over P.A.): It is a distinct honor

705. to present to you now another great American

706. and a brother-in-arms,

707. Major General Benjamin Bloch.

708. Admiral Leitch,

709. Senator Baine,

710. fellow Americans,

711. and especially the veterans.

712. There is probably no audience that understands better

713. There is probably no audience that understands better

714. that our freedom is not free.

715. All right, you're my eyes out there.

716. Talk to me. Positions report.

717. Sector three clear.

718. No sign of him in four.

719. And for that, it is our duty to remember them.

720. Hold on.

721. I think I have him in section four.

722. Can you confirm that, Scully?

723. Positive I.D. He's heading towards you, three.

724. Positions hold. Three and four, do you have eye contact?

725. I have him in three.

726. He's coming towards you, Scully.

727. Don't take your eyes off him, Scully.

728. Mulder, he saw me.

729. He's heading towards the sound booth.

730. Copy that. I'm cutting him off.

731. Talk to me, people. Does anybody have him?

732. Talk to me, people. Does anybody have him?

733. What's happening, Scully?

734. I'm closing on him.

735. You have him in three?

736. Negative.

737. Scully.

738. I lost him.

739. You got him, three?

740. I don't see him, Scully.

741. What's happening, Agent Scully?

742. I can't see him anywhere.

743. I can't see him anywhere.

744. He must be headed your way.

745. You got him, Mulder?

746. Not yet.

747. I got him.

748. I lost him.

749. Pick him up, Mulder. He's right in front of you.

750. He's got a gun!

751. General, get off the stage!

752. I can't see him.

753. Mulder.

754. Teager's here.

755. I saw him out of the corner of my eye.

756. Mulder, he's gone. He's gone.

757. MAN (over P.A.): There's no cause for alarm,

758. ladies and gentlemen.

759. Just a minor disturbance.

760. Let's try and keep some order.

761. Where's General Bloch?

762. He's with Skinner.

763. We got to stop him.

764. What's going on here?

765. I think he can only hide himself

766. in somebody's direct line of sight.

767. When you're looking directly at him?

768. That's why he killed General MacDougal

769. and Steffan at close quarters—

770. MacDougal in his car and Steffan in his office.

771. Get away from the car.

772. He's in the car. Teager's in the car.

797. Markham made a positive I.D.

798. They must have gotten to him.

799. Army forensics claims to have multiple confirmation.

800. You heard him. We both did.

801. It's happening all over again.

802. They're covering the lies with more lies,

803. trying to make him invisible.

804. We've got to subpoena Markham and General Bloch

805. and we've got to petition the State Department

806. to release Teager's body.

807. I can't do that, Agent Mulder.

808. Why not?

809. This investigation has been

810. turned over to C.I.D.

811. It's no longer our jurisdiction.

812. Don't let them do this.

813. Let it go, Agent Mulder. You did your job.

814. So did Nathaniel Teager.

822. And with all due respect, sir...

823. he could be you.

824. I made this!
