1. Okay, okay.Copy !req
2. Okay, okay.Copy !req
3. Yeah, okay.Copy !req
4. Santa Maria san locos.Copy !req
5. What the hell is that?Copy !req
6. Hey.
Get out!Copy !req
7. Get out of the way!Copy !req
8. Get over there!Copy !req
9. Ray's hurt bad, man!Copy !req
10. (men shouting)
Hurry up!Copy !req
11. Get an ambulance!Copy !req
12. This is Wesley Brewer
out on Route 7.Copy !req
13. Looks like about an 8:00 E.T.A.
on that trailer pickup.Copy !req
14. Looks like about an 8:00 E.T.A.
on that trailer pickup.Copy !req
15. This fog's going
to slow me down.Copy !req
16. 10-4, Wesley.Copy !req
17. See you when you get here.Copy !req
18. Mother of God!Copy !req
19. She was just lying there
when they found her, Officer.Copy !req
20. Stay back.Copy !req
21. Thank you.Copy !req
22. So you saw nothing when the
window broke? No one outside?Copy !req
23. No. Nothing.Copy !req
24. We heard a noise
like thunder.Copy !req
25. Then glass everywhere.Copy !req
26. Okay. Thank you.Copy !req
27. What did the janitors say?Copy !req
28. They claim
they didn't see anything.Copy !req
29. That's not surprising;
the security monitorsCopy !req
30. don't have a recording
of anything, either.Copy !req
31. Just a giant
implosion of glass,Copy !req
32. like some kind
of giant shock wave.Copy !req
33. What the janitors describe
sounds more like a sonic boom.Copy !req
34. What the janitors describe
sounds more like a sonic boom.Copy !req
35. No sonic boom
did this.Copy !req
36. Construction worker
who was killedCopy !req
37. had his spine crushed
like a string of seashells,Copy !req
38. a circular abrasion
on his torsoCopy !req
39. in roughly the shape
of an elephant's foot.Copy !req
40. Other workers at the site said
they felt the ground shakeCopy !req
41. followed by a faint whiff
of animal odor in the wind.Copy !req
42. Mulder, if you're
still suggestingCopy !req
43. that the elephant did this,
it just defies logic.Copy !req
44. Somebody would have seen it.Copy !req
45. Well, if somebody would have
seen it, Scully,Copy !req
46. we wouldn't be here.Copy !req
47. Another vehicleCopy !req
48. would have left evidence
of a collision—Copy !req
49. would have left evidence
of a collision—Copy !req
50. distress to the metal,
or paint.Copy !req
51. I can see signs
of neither of those things.Copy !req
52. I'd be willing to admit
the possibility of a tornado,Copy !req
53. but it's not really
tornado season.Copy !req
54. I'd even be willing to
entertain the notionCopy !req
55. of a black hole passing over
the area or some cosmic anomaly,Copy !req
56. but it's not really black
hole season, either.Copy !req
57. If I was a betting man,
I'd say that it was, uh...Copy !req
58. An invisible elephant?Copy !req
59. I saw David CopperfieldCopy !req
60. make the Statue of Liberty
disappear once.Copy !req
61. Agent Mulder?Copy !req
62. Yeah.
Ed Meecham, Fairfield Zoo.Copy !req
63. Sorry for the holdup.Copy !req
64. Sorry for the holdup.Copy !req
65. We had trouble transporting
Ganesha's body this morning.Copy !req
66. This is
Agent Scully.
Hi.Copy !req
67. Have they determined
what he died of?Copy !req
68. She. Ganesha was
a 12-year-old Indian female.Copy !req
69. Near as I can figure,
she ran herself into exhaustion.Copy !req
70. How did she escape?Copy !req
71. Well, now, there's a puzzle.Copy !req
72. When I got the call
this morning,Copy !req
73. I expected to find
her cage open or something,Copy !req
74. but it was locked tight,
just like I left it.Copy !req
75. Any idea how she could have
escaped a locked cage?Copy !req
76. No, sir.Copy !req
77. No signs of tampering, either.Copy !req
78. I've read about something
called the elephant rebellionCopy !req
79. in zoos across the country—Copy !req
80. a high incidence of elephants
turning on their keepers,Copy !req
81. a high incidence of elephants
turning on their keepers,Copy !req
82. destroying their pens.Copy !req
83. Was Ganesha ever
a problem like that?Copy !req
84. Elephants are very big,
very willful animals.Copy !req
85. So you're saying
there were problems?Copy !req
86. Well, the person
you're going to wantCopy !req
87. to talk to about that
is Willa Ambrose.Copy !req
88. Ambrose?
She's a naturalist.Copy !req
89. She was hired by
the board of supervisorsCopy !req
90. last year to oversee things.Copy !req
91. Now she's supposed to be
the reigning authority.Copy !req
92. Let me ask you something.Copy !req
93. In your opinion,
the damage here on the street—Copy !req
94. could this have been caused byCopy !req
95. an escaped elephant?
My honest opinion?Copy !req
96. Yeah.
Sure.Copy !req
97. Excuse me.Copy !req
98. Excuse me.Copy !req
99. What you looking for,
Mulder?Copy !req
100. A local paper.Copy !req
101. I want to see if David
Copperfield's in town.Copy !req
102. Excuse me. We're looking
for Willa Ambrose.Copy !req
103. There.Copy !req
104. Thank you.
Sure.Copy !req
105. Thank you.
Sure.Copy !req
106. Miss Ambrose?
Yes?Copy !req
107. I'm Agent Dana Scully.
This is Agent Mulder.Copy !req
108. We're with the FBI.Copy !req
109. How can I help you?Copy !req
110. Well, a federal employeeCopy !req
111. was fatally injured last night,Copy !req
112. and there seems to be
a case developingCopy !req
113. around the elephant
that escaped from your zoo.Copy !req
114. It was my understanding
that the eyewitnessesCopy !req
115. to the accident said
that they didn't knowCopy !req
116. how the man was killed.Copy !req
117. Actually,
what we're trying to determineCopy !req
118. is how Ganesha escaped.Copy !req
119. Well, what did Ed tell you?Copy !req
120. Well, what did Ed tell you?Copy !req
121. He said he found
the cage locked,Copy !req
122. the same way he left it.Copy !req
123. What more can I say?Copy !req
124. I don't want
to belabor this,Copy !req
125. but a man was found
trampled to death.Copy !req
126. An animal from your zoo
was found 43 miles from here.Copy !req
127. No one's looking
to place any blame.Copy !req
128. We're just trying
to understand the factsCopy !req
129. that led up to this incident.Copy !req
130. This is
where Ganesha was heldCopy !req
131. when she wasn't
in her habitat.Copy !req
132. Who has keys to this lock?Copy !req
133. Only myself and Mr. Meecham.Copy !req
134. Otherwise, this is
a restricted area.Copy !req
135. Elephants aren't
particularly good jumpers,Copy !req
136. if that's what you're thinking.Copy !req
137. if that's what you're thinking.Copy !req
138. No, I was just wondering
why such a small penCopy !req
139. for such a large animal.Copy !req
140. The zoo was built
in the 1940s.Copy !req
141. The pens and habitatsCopy !req
142. are all too confining.Copy !req
143. I was brought onCopy !req
144. to expand and create
more humane environments.Copy !req
145. Unfortunately,
these things take time.Copy !req
146. Those chains
on the ground there?Copy !req
147. Those are tie-downs.Copy !req
148. They're meant to restrict
the animal's movement.Copy !req
149. I disallowed their use
when I came to work here.Copy !req
150. Disallowed their use by whom?Copy !req
151. It was Ed Meecham's practice.Copy !req
152. It reflected an old,
nonprogressive zoo policy.Copy !req
153. It reflected an old,
nonprogressive zoo policy.Copy !req
154. How's your relationship
with Ed Meecham?Copy !req
155. I'm his boss and I'm a woman,
and Ed doesn't like that much.Copy !req
156. Would he be vindictive enough
to let Ganesha goCopy !req
157. as an act of sabotage?Copy !req
158. Well, if he did,Copy !req
159. that would be foolish.Copy !req
160. The facility is
running at a deficitCopy !req
161. and in danger
of losing its funding.Copy !req
162. Have you spoken about
the incident with Ed?Copy !req
163. No.Copy !req
164. I think Ed's got enough
dealing with the W.A.O.Copy !req
165. W.A.O.?Copy !req
166. It's the Wild
Again Organization.Copy !req
167. They're a radical group
that believesCopy !req
168. any captive animal
is a crime against nature.Copy !req
169. Believe me, they're going to
have a field day with this one.Copy !req
170. Believe me, they're going to
have a field day with this one.Copy !req
171. Excuse me.Copy !req
172. The W.A.O. believes
only tragedy resultsCopy !req
173. from keeping animals
in captivity.Copy !req
174. In the wild, an elephant
like that would roam an areaCopy !req
175. 20 square miles, minimum.Copy !req
176. Ganesha weighed
in excess of 5,000 pounds,Copy !req
177. and she was being held
in a 50-by-50-foot cage.Copy !req
178. And you consider that
inhumane treatment?Copy !req
179. It's like you or I
living in a pickle barrel.Copy !req
180. According to FBI files, you've
been arrested over a dozen timesCopy !req
181. for activities
involving the kidnappingCopy !req
182. of circus and zoo animals.Copy !req
183. of circus and zoo animals.Copy !req
184. The W.A.O. sees it
as liberation.Copy !req
185. Hmm.Copy !req
186. Were you involved
in the liberation of Ganesha?Copy !req
187. That would make me an accessory
to murder, wouldn't it?Copy !req
188. Endangering these animalsCopy !req
189. is against
everything we believe.Copy !req
190. These are incredibly
spiritual creatures.Copy !req
191. Their rituals and
behavior are linkedCopy !req
192. to a past no man ever witnessed.Copy !req
193. Did you know
they actually bury their dead?Copy !req
194. They can visit
an elephant graveyardCopy !req
195. centuries old
and know instinctivelyCopy !req
196. where the bones
of their ancient ancestors lie.Copy !req
197. where the bones
of their ancient ancestors lie.Copy !req
198. What do you think
Ganesha was running from?Copy !req
199. You want to see what
she was running from?Copy !req
200. I'll show you.Copy !req
201. Get up!Copy !req
202. Pull! I got it!Copy !req
203. This is how Ed Meecham
treats these majestic animals.Copy !req
204. This is still going on?Copy !req
205. Meecham's a barbarian.Copy !req
206. He's been torturing animalsCopy !req
207. at the Fairfield Zoo for years.Copy !req
208. We figure he's still at it.Copy !req
209. Eventually, we're going
to get some proof.Copy !req
210. We're here to put
pressure on the zoo.Copy !req
211. We're keeping track
of what goes on there.Copy !req
212. Even though Willa
Ambrose claims that she's putCopy !req
213. Even though Willa
Ambrose claims that she's putCopy !req
214. a stop to most of
his old practices?Copy !req
215. Whatever Willa Ambrose's
intentions,Copy !req
216. she's too preoccupied to really
know how Meecham operates.Copy !req
217. Preoccupied with what?Copy !req
218. A lawsuit she's fighting againstCopy !req
219. the Malawi government over a
lowland gorilla named Sophie.Copy !req
220. Willa rescued her from a
North African customs houseCopy !req
221. ten years ago.Copy !req
222. Raised her like a child.Copy !req
223. Now the Malawi government
wants her back.Copy !req
224. Will they win?Copy !req
225. This is a perfect exampleCopy !req
226. of man's imperialism
over the animal kingdom—Copy !req
227. of man's imperialism
over the animal kingdom—Copy !req
228. this craven impulse
to turn animals into objectsCopy !req
229. for our own selfish pleasure.Copy !req
230. I thought you said
she rescued this gorilla.Copy !req
231. Yeah, rescued her so she could
spend a life behind bars.Copy !req
232. Her obligation
should have beenCopy !req
233. to return the gorilla
to the wild.Copy !req
234. All animals should run free.Copy !req
235. Even if that means
trampling a man to death?Copy !req
236. Maybe he should have gotten
out of the way.Copy !req
237. I'm sure he would have
if he'd seen it coming.Copy !req
238. Thanks for your time, sir,Copy !req
239. and we'll get
back to you soon.Copy !req
240. It's all happening
at the zoo, Scully.Copy !req
241. Well, we found
our suspects.Copy !req
242. You think they busted
out the elephant?Copy !req
243. Well, you heard the man—
"All animals should run free."Copy !req
244. What about all the
eyewitness accounts,Copy !req
245. the security tapes
from the video cameras,Copy !req
246. the fact that no one
actually saw an elephantCopy !req
247. until it was miles
away from the zoo?Copy !req
248. Well, the lights they were
using at the construction siteCopy !req
249. were mercury vapor,
10,000 candlepower.Copy !req
250. They can restrict
a man's abilityCopy !req
251. They can restrict
a man's abilityCopy !req
252. to adjust his vision
to the dark.Copy !req
253. And their security cameras
are poor quality.Copy !req
254. A gray elephant may not have
registered an image on tapeCopy !req
255. in the dim light
in front of the building.Copy !req
256. No, I'm not buying it, Scully.Copy !req
257. I think these guys
are all talk.Copy !req
258. These guys are dedicatedCopy !req
259. to exactly this kind of
activity unabashedly.Copy !req
260. Did you check out
the night vision cameraCopy !req
261. they had lying on the shelf?Copy !req
262. No.
It wouldn't surprise meCopy !req
263. if they tried
to capitalize on their success.Copy !req
264. By doing what?Copy !req
265. By liberating another animal.Copy !req
266. Willa Ambrose said that the zoo
was in trouble financially.Copy !req
267. A loss of another big exhibit
could shut them down entirely.Copy !req
268. A loss of another big exhibit
could shut them down entirely.Copy !req
269. All right.
You keep an eye on the W.A.O.Copy !req
270. And where are you going?Copy !req
271. Talk to the animals.Copy !req
272. Beam me up, Scotty.Copy !req
273. Did anybody
ever tell youCopy !req
274. the camera loves
you, Frohike?Copy !req
275. Yeah, the arresting officers
at the "Free James Brown" rally.Copy !req
276. So what's this costing
the taxpayers, Mulder?Copy !req
277. Uh, about 150 bucks an hour.Copy !req
278. Ouch! Almost as much
as Bill Clinton's haircuts.Copy !req
279. Where's Langley?Copy !req
280. Where's Langley?Copy !req
281. He has a
philosophical issueCopy !req
282. with having his image
bounced off a satellite.Copy !req
283. What are you doing
in Idaho?Copy !req
284. I'm in the town of Fairfield.
What do you know about it?Copy !req
285. They got a little
zoo there.Copy !req
286. Lots of strange lore—
animals escaping,Copy !req
287. disappearing
without a trace.Copy !req
288. Any idea why?Copy !req
289. You're not far from the
Mountain Home Air Base.Copy !req
290. Major UFO hot spot.Copy !req
291. Weird fact, Mulder:
no animal at Fairfield ZooCopy !req
292. has ever brought
a pregnancy to term.Copy !req
293. Not a cub or a chick.Copy !req
294. The woman who runs the zooCopy !req
295. has a gorilla
that knows sign language—Copy !req
296. supposedly with a
vocabulary of 1,000 words.Copy !req
297. supposedly with a
vocabulary of 1,000 words.Copy !req
298. If that's the lovely
Agent Scully,Copy !req
299. let her know
I've been working out.Copy !req
300. I'm buff.Copy !req
301. Mulder.Copy !req
302. Mulder, it's me. I was right.Copy !req
303. I just followed the kid
from the W.A.O. to the zoo.Copy !req
304. He's just about
to make it over the fence.Copy !req
305. All right,
I'll be right there, Scully.Copy !req
306. What the hell
are you doing here?Copy !req
307. There's a member of the
W.A.O. on the premises.Copy !req
308. Come with me.Copy !req
309. What's going on?Copy !req
310. It's okay, Sophie.
Calm down.Copy !req
311. I don't know
what you're talking about.Copy !req
312. You have no idea
what he was doing at the zoo?Copy !req
313. If you're asking did I have
any idea of his intentions,Copy !req
314. the answer's simple:
not the slightest.Copy !req
315. What if I told you
I saw this cameraCopy !req
316. sitting up there
on the shelf yesterday?Copy !req
317. Guess I never noticed it before.Copy !req
318. A tiger is missingCopy !req
319. and a member of
your organization is dead.Copy !req
320. For such a principled man,Copy !req
321. you show an amazing
lack of emotion.Copy !req
322. If the tiger killed this person,
then it was a natural act.Copy !req
323. Well, if I find evidenceCopy !req
324. Well, if I find evidenceCopy !req
325. that he was releasing
those animals under your orders,Copy !req
326. I'll make sure you spend the
rest of your life behind bars.Copy !req
327. (door opens)
Scully?Copy !req
328. You know, that guy
really pisses me off.Copy !req
329. You okay, Scully?Copy !req
330. Yeah.Copy !req
331. You calmed down?Copy !req
332. Have they found
the tiger yet?Copy !req
333. No, but I took a look
at the cassetteCopy !req
334. from the kid's
recorder.Copy !req
335. from the kid's
recorder.Copy !req
336. He wasn't killed
by the tiger.
What?Copy !req
337. Unless it's
trick photography,Copy !req
338. that kid was killed by some kind
of phantom attacker.Copy !req
339. You saw his body, Mulder;
that kid was mauled to death.Copy !req
340. He had deep claw marks
on his chest and on his back.Copy !req
341. I can't explain
it, either,Copy !req
342. but I know someone
who might be ale to.Copy !req
343. Excuse me?
Miss Ambrose?Copy !req
344. May we have
a word with you?Copy !req
345. I don't know anything more than
I've already told the police.Copy !req
346. I have nothing to say.Copy !req
347. I have nothing to say.Copy !req
348. Is this where
you keep Sophie?Copy !req
349. Sophie is ill.Copy !req
350. You think
we could meet her?Copy !req
351. We're not here to try
to take her away from you.Copy !req
352. About six weeks ago,Copy !req
353. I had to take Sophie
out of her public habitat.Copy !req
354. She'd become so withdrawn
and depressed,Copy !req
355. she'd curl
into a ballCopy !req
356. in the corner of her
cage and just shiver.Copy !req
357. Did you ask her why?Copy !req
358. All the time.Copy !req
359. What'd she say?Copy !req
360. "Light afraid."Copy !req
361. Literally, she's
afraid of the light.Copy !req
362. She speaks to you?Copy !req
363. Over 600 words using
American Sign Language.Copy !req
364. She understands
over a thousand.Copy !req
365. I'll show you
her vocabulary list.Copy !req
366. Is this who you wanted
to speak to?Copy !req
367. It's basic investigative
procedure, Agent Scully—Copy !req
368. interview all
possible witnesses.Copy !req
369. Gorillas are
highly sensitive creatures,Copy !req
370. and Sophie's use of language
skills makes her even more so.Copy !req
371. Why would she be
afraid of the light?Copy !req
372. Why would she be
afraid of the light?Copy !req
373. Well, you've obviously
heard about the troubleCopy !req
374. with the Malawi
government.Copy !req
375. There's a chance that Sophie
could be taken away from me,Copy !req
376. and I think that
she knows that.Copy !req
377. Are these Sophie's?Copy !req
378. Yes.Copy !req
379. What do they mean?Copy !req
380. Well, until recently,Copy !req
381. Sophie desperately
wanted a baby.Copy !req
382. The brown object in the center
is her expression of that.Copy !req
383. Have you tried
to mate her?Copy !req
384. We were looking for
a suitable partner,Copy !req
385. but under these
stressful conditions,Copy !req
386. I didn't want
to put her through it.Copy !req
387. Do you have
a veterinary facility here?Copy !req
388. Do you have
a veterinary facility here?Copy !req
389. Yeah.
All right, this may seem likeCopy !req
390. a rather strange request,
but it might help to explainCopy !req
391. what's been going on here.Copy !req
392. I'm going to need your helpCopy !req
393. on this, too, Scully.Copy !req
394. I hope you know what you're
getting us into, Mulder.Copy !req
395. I'm pretty sure of what
we're going to find.Copy !req
396. 'Cause this isn't exactly
in my job description.Copy !req
397. Next thing you know, they'll be
doing it on MTV Sports.Copy !req
398. Okay. The elephant's
cavity is clear.Copy !req
399. I'm ready for you.Copy !req
400. The knife's
right down there.Copy !req
401. I've been told there's never
been a successful pregnancyCopy !req
402. at the Fairfield Zoo.Copy !req
403. Sounds like you've been
talking to Kyle Lang.Copy !req
404. Well, is it true?
Yes.Copy !req
405. But I don't think for
the reasons Kyle claims—Copy !req
406. not because Ed Meecham
has done anythingCopy !req
407. to these animals.Copy !req
408. Why then?Copy !req
409. Because bringing
a pregnancy to termCopy !req
410. in captivity
is always difficult.Copy !req
411. But a perfect
failure rate?Copy !req
412. I know. It's one
of the thingsCopy !req
413. I was determined to change
when I came to the zoo.Copy !req
414. I was determined to change
when I came to the zoo.Copy !req
415. Was an attempt ever made
to mate Ganesha?Copy !req
416. No. Mating an elephant
out of the wildCopy !req
417. is rarely successful.Copy !req
418. There have only been
six elephants born in captivityCopy !req
419. over the last
ten years.Copy !req
420. Here's the uterine tissue,Copy !req
421. but I'm still not clear
on what you expect to find.Copy !req
422. You're right, Mulder.Copy !req
423. The signs in the uterus and
the ovaries are unmistakable.Copy !req
424. So what did you find?Copy !req
425. This animal had been pregnant.Copy !req
426. This animal had been pregnant.Copy !req
427. What are you talking about?Copy !req
428. There's evidenceCopy !req
429. of hyperplasia, and
the corpus luteum is ruptured.Copy !req
430. That's not possible.Copy !req
431. Neither is
an invisible elephant.Copy !req
432. What is
going on here?Copy !req
433. Whatever it is,Copy !req
434. it's been going on
for some time.Copy !req
435. And I think you'll find evidence
of the same thingCopy !req
436. when your tiger returns.Copy !req
437. (chuckles) Still can't believe
you bet on the Chargers.Copy !req
438. You hear that?Copy !req
439. Hear what?Copy !req
440. Where's the tiger?Copy !req
441. Somewhere inside
the construction site.Copy !req
442. He's got two men
trapped in there.Copy !req
443. Put the gun away, Ed.Copy !req
444. You want
to be responsibleCopy !req
445. for another death,
Miss Ambrose?Copy !req
446. I think we can capture this cat
without any harm to anyone.Copy !req
447. This is no time
for wishful thinking.Copy !req
448. This is no time
for wishful thinking.Copy !req
449. I'm ordering you, Ed.Copy !req
450. Yes, ma'am. Lead the way.Copy !req
451. Thank you.Copy !req
452. How'd the tiger getCopy !req
453. all the way across town
without being spotted?Copy !req
454. I don't know, but we better
find it before Meecham does.Copy !req
455. I don't know, but we better
find it before Meecham does.Copy !req
456. Hey!Copy !req
457. Shh, shh, shh, shh!Copy !req
458. It was just here.Copy !req
459. It's all right, Willa.Copy !req
460. They don't all talk
and draw pictures.Copy !req
461. This last incident has
left the board with no choiceCopy !req
462. but to withdraw
all funding.Copy !req
463. Well, if that's your decision,Copy !req
464. then there's nothing else
I can say.Copy !req
465. I'm sorry.Copy !req
466. I'm out of a job.Copy !req
467. They've cut off
all funding.Copy !req
468. The animals are being
shipped outCopy !req
469. to other zoos
starting Monday.Copy !req
470. I'm sorry.Copy !req
471. It could not have happened
at a worse time.Copy !req
472. You mean for Sophie?Copy !req
473. What I had
going for meCopy !req
474. was my position here.Copy !req
475. Having a place for her.Copy !req
476. Have the results come in
on the tiger?Copy !req
477. Agent Scully
just finished the test.Copy !req
478. The tiger had been
pregnant, too.Copy !req
479. The tiger had been
pregnant, too.Copy !req
480. It's impossible.Copy !req
481. There's no chance those animals
could get pregnant. No way.Copy !req
482. What if they've been
artificially inseminated?Copy !req
483. That's an extremely fine
and complex process.Copy !req
484. I would have known.Copy !req
485. Unless it was done
somewhere else.Copy !req
486. Where?Copy !req
487. What do you know
about alien abduction?Copy !req
488. You're... you're kidding me.Copy !req
489. You think that these animalsCopy !req
490. were taken aboard
some spaceship?Copy !req
491. I don't know where
they're being taken,Copy !req
492. but there's obviously
some problem getting them back.Copy !req
493. but there's obviously
some problem getting them back.Copy !req
494. Due to what is probably
an astrological variation—Copy !req
495. a trouble with
the time-space continuum.Copy !req
496. These animals that are being
taken from locked cagesCopy !req
497. are being returned roughly two
miles west-southwest of the zoo.Copy !req
498. Aliens impregnating zoo animals.Copy !req
499. Yes, and harvesting the embryos.Copy !req
500. Why?Copy !req
501. Maybe their own Noah's ark.Copy !req
502. To preserve the DNA
of these animalsCopy !req
503. that we're depleting
to extinction.Copy !req
504. Whatever it is, that's probably
the reason why you've never hadCopy !req
505. a successful birth
at this facility.Copy !req
506. I think that's the most
ridiculous thing I've heard.Copy !req
507. I understandCopy !req
508. that you might think
it's ridiculous.Copy !req
509. that you might think
it's ridiculous.Copy !req
510. Maybe you should ask Sophie.Copy !req
511. You think this is
what she's so afraid of?Copy !req
512. I believe
she's pregnant,Copy !req
513. and she's afraid of them
coming for her baby.Copy !req
514. Sophie, come here.Copy !req
515. I want to ask you
a question.Copy !req
516. It's okay, Sophie.Copy !req
517. Come here.Copy !req
518. What's she saying?Copy !req
519. She says,
"Man, woman— hurt."Copy !req
520. She thinks you
or your partnerCopy !req
521. are going to hurt
her or me.Copy !req
522. Sophie, man, woman
are here to help you.Copy !req
523. They want to knowCopy !req
524. about Sophie's baby.Copy !req
525. Can I ask her a question?Copy !req
526. Yeah.Copy !req
527. Will you ask her
if she wants to leave here.Copy !req
528. Sophie...Copy !req
529. Sophie...Copy !req
530. do you want to leave here?Copy !req
531. She says,Copy !req
532. "Light afraid."Copy !req
533. Sophie, what are you
afraid of?Copy !req
534. Tell me.Copy !req
535. What did she say?Copy !req
536. She said,
"Baby go flying light."Copy !req
537. I just finished up
in the infirmary.Copy !req
538. A sheriff's deputy came looking
to serve you papers.Copy !req
539. A sheriff's deputy came looking
to serve you papers.Copy !req
540. I think it's about Sophie.Copy !req
541. What am I going to do?Copy !req
542. Whatever you do,
you can't leave Sophie here,Copy !req
543. not if you want
to protect her.Copy !req
544. I have nowhere else to take her.Copy !req
545. (knocking)
Excuse me.Copy !req
546. Willa Ambrose?Copy !req
547. Yes.
I'm serving youCopy !req
548. with a court order to release
a gorilla named SophieCopy !req
549. into protective custody.Copy !req
550. What are you doing here?Copy !req
551. I've come to ask
for your help, Kyle.Copy !req
552. I've come to ask
for your help, Kyle.Copy !req
553. Help with what?Copy !req
554. Sophie.Copy !req
555. They've taken herCopy !req
556. into protective custody.Copy !req
557. Let her go, Willa.Copy !req
558. They're putting her
in an iron cage as we speak,Copy !req
559. without bars, without windows.Copy !req
560. It'll kill her.Copy !req
561. Sophie's been behind bars
her entire life.Copy !req
562. Let her go home, Willa.Copy !req
563. She'll have the freedom
she deserves.Copy !req
564. Freedom to what?
Be killed by poachersCopy !req
565. and have her hands
cut off as souvenirs?Copy !req
566. and have her hands
cut off as souvenirs?Copy !req
567. They've promised
she'll be in a preserve.Copy !req
568. She's mine, Kyle!Copy !req
569. I won't let her go!Copy !req
570. Please, come on.Copy !req
571. We can find a placeCopy !req
572. for her here—
a private reserve.Copy !req
573. You know people.Copy !req
574. That's against everything
I stand for.Copy !req
575. She's pregnant.Copy !req
576. What?Copy !req
577. Sophie's pregnant.Copy !req
578. I don't believe you, Willa.Copy !req
579. It's true.
What if she was?Copy !req
580. Is the baby going to live out
its life behind bars, too?Copy !req
581. Look, Willa, she doesn't
belong to you.Copy !req
582. Look, Willa, she doesn't
belong to you.Copy !req
583. She's not your child.Copy !req
584. She belongs with other gorillas,
not selling tickets for a zoo.Copy !req
585. You won't help me?Copy !req
586. No.Copy !req
587. Want to see
something interesting?Copy !req
588. Where did you
get this?Copy !req
589. I was looking for a pen
to finish my reportCopy !req
590. in Willa's office,
and it was in her drawer.Copy !req
591. It's a small world, after all.Copy !req
592. It's okay, Sophie.Copy !req
593. It's okay, honey.Copy !req
594. Sophie, Sophie, Sophie.Copy !req
595. Don't worry.Copy !req
596. I'm with you.Copy !req
597. I love you, too.Copy !req
598. Willa?Copy !req
599. Willa?Copy !req
600. You here?Copy !req
601. Willa?Copy !req
602. Where are you?Copy !req
603. Willa?Copy !req
604. Willa?Copy !req
605. I told you, it happened exactly
the way it did with the tiger.Copy !req
606. I heard the animals going crazy.Copy !req
607. I got out of bed to check
on Sophie, and she was gone.Copy !req
608. That's when I found Kyle.Copy !req
609. Do you have any ideaCopy !req
610. what he would have
been doing at the zoo?
No.Copy !req
611. We have a witness
who saysCopy !req
612. that you visited Kyle's
office yesterday.Copy !req
613. Is that true?Copy !req
614. Yeah.Copy !req
615. For what purpose?Copy !req
616. Basically, to tell him
that he'd won.Copy !req
617. That the zoo
was being shut down,Copy !req
618. that Sophie was being taken
into protective custody.Copy !req
619. that Sophie was being taken
into protective custody.Copy !req
620. Did you ask him
to help you take SophieCopy !req
621. to prevent her
from being taken from you?Copy !req
622. No.Copy !req
623. That would be against
everything Kyle believed in.Copy !req
624. But he helped you
to rescue her originally,Copy !req
625. isn't that correct?Copy !req
626. He had a connection to
you and to this animalCopy !req
627. that went back
several years.Copy !req
628. Whatever connection he and I had
was over long ago.Copy !req
629. But you asked him anyway,
to help you.Copy !req
630. No.Copy !req
631. Then what was he doing
here last night,Copy !req
632. Then what was he doing
here last night,Copy !req
633. and why did he give
you this note?Copy !req
634. I don't know.Copy !req
635. I told you.Copy !req
636. Did he make a habit
of visiting the zoo?Copy !req
637. If he did,Copy !req
638. it was probably late at night
after he jumped over the fenceCopy !req
639. like a good W.A.O. soldier.Copy !req
640. Anyway, why don't you ask Agent
Mulder what he thinks happened.Copy !req
641. He seems to have
a novel theory.Copy !req
642. Maybe it was alien abduction.Copy !req
643. Maybe it was alien abduction.Copy !req
644. Scully, can I talk
to you for a second?Copy !req
645. You think
she's telling the truth.Copy !req
646. Why do you say that?Copy !req
647. Kyle Lang's death and
the disappearance of the animalCopy !req
648. match the previous incidents.Copy !req
649. Yes.Copy !req
650. And you've been pushing
this alien abduction angle.Copy !req
651. I still am, but in this case,
Willa's reactions are all wrong.Copy !req
652. You mean to losing Sophie?Copy !req
653. You mean to losing Sophie?Copy !req
654. I think she knows
where Sophie is,Copy !req
655. and Kyle Lang died because
he knows what she's capable of.Copy !req
656. You think she killed him?Copy !req
657. I think she'd do anything
to protect that animal.Copy !req
658. Even wait atop a stack of cratesCopy !req
659. for a former lover
to walk underneath?Copy !req
660. I think an examination
of the body will give usCopy !req
661. a lot clearer picture
what happened last night.Copy !req
662. You do that, and I'll
check out the warehouse.Copy !req
663. Looks like you're in a hurry.Copy !req
664. Well, there isn't much to
hang around for, is there?Copy !req
665. Well, there isn't much to
hang around for, is there?Copy !req
666. I'm afraid there is.Copy !req
667. I found evidence that Kyle
died a wrongful death.Copy !req
668. He was hit
with a cattle prod.Copy !req
669. There's going to be
an investigation,Copy !req
670. so I have
to read you your rights.Copy !req
671. It was an accident.Copy !req
672. Kyle surprised Ed.Copy !req
673. He wasn't supposed
to be there.Copy !req
674. Ed Meecham took Sophie?Copy !req
675. Yes.Copy !req
676. There was no one else
to turn to.Copy !req
677. Where is she, Willa?Copy !req
678. Ed has her.Copy !req
679. She's in some... buildingCopy !req
680. on the road to Boise.Copy !req
681. Put it down, Ed.Copy !req
682. There's been enough violence,
don't you think?Copy !req
683. I didn't kill Kyle Lang.Copy !req
684. I didn't kill Kyle Lang.Copy !req
685. Put down the gun
and we'll talk about it.Copy !req
686. I was only doing what
she paid me to do.Copy !req
687. Where's the animal, Ed?Copy !req
688. Down the hall.Copy !req
689. Okay, you show me where.Copy !req
690. We're going to
go there together. Come on.Copy !req
691. What's she doing?Copy !req
692. She's throwing herself
against the door.Copy !req
693. She's gone crazy.Copy !req
694. She's scared.Copy !req
695. Yeah? Well, she's
going to kill herself.Copy !req
696. Okay, Ed. Well, you're
going to have to save her.Copy !req
697. Take your
tranquilizer gun.Copy !req
698. I'll be right
behind you.Copy !req
699. I've only got one
dart in this thing,Copy !req
700. so you got to get her
out in the light.Copy !req
701. You see her?Copy !req
702. I think she's over in
that corner over there.Copy !req
703. Hey, Meecham!Copy !req
704. I'm not going to hurt you.Copy !req
705. Mulder?Copy !req
706. Mulder?Copy !req
707. Mulder?Copy !req
708. Sorry.Copy !req
709. Lie still.
Where's Sophie?Copy !req
710. Lie down. Can we get a
paramedic in here?Copy !req
711. Yes, ma'am.
Meecham.Copy !req
712. Ed Meecham's
been arrested.Copy !req
713. We picked him up on
the way to Boise.Copy !req
714. That's how we
found you here.Copy !req
715. Let me take
a look at this.
They took Sophie.Copy !req
716. Who did?Copy !req
717. Where's Willa?
She's outside.Copy !req
718. She's going in to make a
statement about Kyle Lang.Copy !req
719. I got to talk to her.Copy !req
720. Where is she?
She's gone.Copy !req
721. What did he
do to her?Copy !req
722. Wasn't Ed.
She tried to tell me something.Copy !req
723. What is that?Copy !req
724. That doesn't
make any sense.Copy !req
725. What does it mean?Copy !req
726. "Man save man."Copy !req
727. We've just received a reportCopy !req
728. of a large animal spotted downCopy !req
729. off the interstate,
just west of the surface road...Copy !req
730. That's her.Copy !req
731. She's heading back
towards the zoo.Copy !req
732. Where is she?Copy !req
733. Over there.Copy !req
734. What happened here?Copy !req
735. Animal got
hit by a car.Copy !req
736. Ran off into the field.Copy !req
737. (sobbing):
Oh, no.Copy !req
738. Oh, no, no, no.Copy !req
739. No.Copy !req
740. No.Copy !req
741. Sophie?Copy !req
742. Sophie?Copy !req
743. Oh, no, no.Copy !req
744. Willa Ambrose and
Ed Meecham have been chargedCopy !req
745. Willa Ambrose and
Ed Meecham have been chargedCopy !req
746. with manslaughter
for the death of Kyle Lang.Copy !req
747. And though the courts
will rule on this matterCopy !req
748. and justice will
no doubt be served,Copy !req
749. the pall of
a greater tragedy remains.Copy !req
750. The motives
of the silent visitorsCopy !req
751. who set these events in motion
remain unclear.Copy !req
752. Could this be a judgment
on a global rate of extinctionCopy !req
753. that has risen to 1,000 timesCopy !req
754. its natural rate
in this century?Copy !req
755. An act of alien conservation
of animalsCopy !req
756. we are driving hard
toward oblivion?Copy !req
757. And if so, might it follow
that our own fate and existenceCopy !req
758. And if so, might it follow
that our own fate and existenceCopy !req
759. could finally be dependentCopy !req
760. on the conservatorship
of an extraterrestrial race?Copy !req
761. Or in the simple words
of a creatureCopy !req
762. whose own future is uncertain,
will man save man?Copy !req
763. I made this!Copy !req
