The Wire 4x7

1. They got honey nut cheerios in here?

2. Shit.

3. Yo, back the fuck up, motherfucker.

4. My man here saved my spot, yo.

5. So we'll have more time together.

6. Gonna get us a couple of babies.

7. Ain't nobody see shit.

8. - How's that for a message? - Not bad.

9. Except the price in your head ain't for four figures.

10. - It's for five. - Shit. For that kind of money,

11. I should have done you my own self.

12. So who's doing the bounty?

13. Word is, a west side player by the name of marlo.

14. Marlo? Can't say i know the man.

15. He know you.

16. You can get me a phone call?

17. I can do you one better than that.

18. Who you calling?

19. Police.

20. The police?

21. Man owe me a favor.

22. Crime, violence, drugs,

23. Drug addiction, failing schools,

24. All of these and social problems in baltimore city.

25. Over and over again. And on june 8,

26. When i had to write a column for the next day,

27. Some statistics had just come out from the fbi showing

28. An up-tick in some of baltimore's crime,

29. And we also had a spate of five killings

30. In a two or three-day period.

31. And, you know, the idea of sitting down again

32. And writing another column on this subject—

33. I don't know, it bored me.

34. And here i am a citizen of baltimore,

35. And i take my citizenship as seriously as i take my credentials as a columnist.

36. I said, "what am i gonna say? What can i say about this?"

37. If the killings continue,

38. Between 250 and 300 homicides a year...

39. - Top of the world. - Top of the world.

40. I knocked off an incumbent major, tony.

41. That ain't easy.

42. National party has to take notice.

43. Young and pretty as you are, i'm sure they've got ideas.

44. All you have to do now is run the city.

45. Tony, i gotta ask you something—

46. Why you didn't run again after the first term.

47. I mean, nobody had the— the name you had, the organization.

48. Let me tell you a story, tommy.

49. The first day i became mayor, they sit me down at the desk,

50. Big chair and dark wood, lots of beautiful things.

51. I'm thinking, "how much better can it get?"

52. There's a knock at the door in the corner of the room,

53. And pete comes walking in

54. Carrying this gorgeous sieve,

55. Silver bowl, hand-chased.

56. It was this big.

57. "it's from the unions," he says.

58. So i think it's a present,

59. Something to commemorate my first day as mayor.

60. And he walks over, puts it on a desk.

61. I look down at it.

62. It's disgusting.

63. I say, "what the hell is this?"

64. He said, "what the hell's it look like?"

65. - I said, "it looks like shit.

66. Well, what do you want me to do with it?"

67. He says, "eat it."

68. "eat it?" he says, "yeah.

69. You're the mayor.

70. You gotta eat it."

71. So, okay.

72. It was my first day and pete knows more than i do.

73. So i go at it.

74. And just when i finish, there's a knock on the door.

75. And in walks pete carrying another silver bowl,

76. And this one's from the blacks.

77. "this, too?" and he nods.

78. I start eating.

79. And when i'm finished,

80. There's another knock and another bowl.

81. This one's from the pollocks.

82. Then after that, one from the ministers.

83. And you know what, tommy?

84. That's what it is.

85. You're sitting eating shit all day long, day after day,

86. Year after year.

87. When i realized that,

88. I decided being a downtown lawyer

89. And seeing my family every night made for a fine life.

90. Just a fine life.

91. Got that dark horse right here, man.

92. All jacked up for us.

93. Damn, i know this nigga ain't about to cop, is you?

94. Spider, spider, hold on, now.

95. Come on, man.

96. Why you ain't come past my gym no more?

97. I've been waiting on you for weeks now.

98. Talk to me, son.

99. - You ain't my fucking father.

100. What happened between me and your moms

101. Ain't got shit to do with you taking advantage of the gym.

102. Now, man, i'm just saying you one of my best, boy.

103. Hell, if i thought it was gonna hurt you, i—

104. Fuck you! Ain't nobody gonna hurt me.

105. Fuck you. So step up or step off, unc.

106. I got customers backing up.

107. Dark horse. Dark horse.

108. Five and five more.

109. Shit. I see that done.

110. Woman on p.A.: To the cafeteria.

111. Principal withers, please to the cafeteria.

112. Yo, last card down. Remember?

113. Oh, yeah. My bad.

114. Hey, guys.

115. You know i don't mind you coming up here most days

116. To eat lunch, but i said it can't be gambling.

117. Yo, mr. Prezbo, the quarter's only a, you know, reminder—

118. To remind me that i got 25 shells.

119. That's all.

120. Come on. Let's see what you got.

121. Dang. Flush.

122. But it don't beat your three nines, right?

123. - Yeah, it do. - It do?

124. It do. It does.

125. Karim, you should have been more cautious with your bet. Figure the odds.

126. Yo, it's our lunch break. Don't be schooling us now.

127. Hold on. Hold on. Let him talk.

128. Well, for starters,

129. You have to get a count on the diamonds.

130. You know how many diamonds there are in a deck?

131. 13.

132. 13. That's right.

133. Cards is all about knowing the numbers.

134. With the numbers you can calculate the odds.

135. Now, michael had four diamonds showing.

136. Hold on. Wait. What about dice?

137. I mean, does dice have odds, too?

138. 'cause mostly that's what we play.

139. Dice? Yeah. Sure.

140. So, can you show us the odds of dice?

141. - Yeah, man. - Yeah, man. Teach us dice.

142. - That'd be hard, man. - For real.

143. Here comes that jailhouse rick.

144. The braddock case?

145. I take it we now have permission to solve this fucking case,

146. Seeing as everyone's finished voting.

147. Solve away, you bold centurions.

148. You don't have work to do?

149. Not till i catch a fresh call, no.

150. How much can you sell that one for?

151. Mint condition, 300.

152. Fuck me. I need a hobby.

153. I tried,

154. But he bucked on me.

155. I just thought he might have come back past once or twice.

156. Sherrod's on a truant list, mr. Cousins.

157. He hadn't been back since the last time you brought him in.

158. Well, if he does come back past,

159. Will you tell him i'm looking for him at home?

160. And he can come home if he want.

161. I apologize for taking your time.

162. I see you up here undercover.

163. Don't worry, dawg. I'll keep it close.

164. Mrs. Donnelly,

165. Does the school have any kind of collection of board games?

166. Parcheesi, trouble, monopoly?

167. You're still teaching eighth-grade math, right?

168. Trying. Yeah.

169. The book room downstairs.

170. Stay on the curriculum, mr. Pryzbylewski,

171. Or you'll have an area superintendent on our backs.

172. Remember this, yo?

173. Not my case.

174. Them boys working the case ain't really in the mood to listen.

175. As you can see, i still got the lady lawyer marker,

176. And if i recall, police gun got found a while back.

177. Only reason i'm even here is because of that gun.

178. As far as ilene nathan goes,

179. She promised get out of jail free on a small felony or two.

180. This here is a taxpayer murder with an eyeball witness.

181. The eyeball witness is lying, yo.

182. Come on, now. When you ever know me

183. To put my gun on anybody that wasn't in the game?

184. omar.

185. Old face andre lying on me here.

186. The store owner? Now, why would he lie?

187. Andre working a package out the store.

188. - Ah. - Folk like that,

189. They tend to bear certain resentment toward folk like me.

190. If you didn't do this when you did others— shit.

191. I got files on two open doubles last year.

192. Shotgun shells at both scenes.

193. What about that stash house gunfight?

194. Hmm? What about stringer bell

195. And his muscle dead in the warehouse?

196. If this one ain't on you, another dozen probably are.

197. And if this one goes to court,

198. You can tell that jury how wrong it is.

199. I'll be seeing god long before i swear to him on the stand.

200. You leave me at courtside and i'm done.

201. - You know that. - Yeah?

202. So you ain't making friends?

203. I got a bounty on my head, man.

204. Five figures.

205. If i'd have known i was gonna be sharing quarters with all these boys,

206. I probably wouldn't have robbed so many of them.

207. Oh, yeah. The golden rule.

208. Since you feeling all biblical

209. And righteous and all, you think on this.

210. Now, if omar ain't killed that delivery lady,

211. Somebody else did.

212. But you giving him a free walk right now though, ain't you?

213. A man got to have a code.

214. - What's up? - Just the dice.

215. Grab the dice from any game that has them.

216. We're using the third edition, right?

217. I don't know.

218. If we're using the third,

219. What are the new fifth editions doing sitting down here in a box?

220. No way.

221. Big bird, yo.

222. Big bird over here.

223. What's up, man?

224. Got your big yellow.

225. What's up?

226. Big yellow for you.

227. Look at you, all business and shit.

228. Big yellow bird.

229. Yo, who you bumping with?

230. Ain't no bump.

231. They got their corner, i got mine.

232. Ain't no thing.

233. You going up to gym today?

234. I might see you later.

235. Big yellow.

236. Big yellow bird over here.

237. Yo, maybe they with marlo.

238. Ain't with no one.

239. They're just young'uns playing in this shit.

240. So what you want to do?

241. I want to mix here and bring the police to our shop.

242. If they step off, you follow.

243. - Bank 'em good. - What if they strut?

244. Yellow. Big yellow.

245. Ain't no need to pop no one if they heed the warning.

246. But make sure they know we for real.

247. Brokeback, man. Brokeback right here.

248. Fresh from the street. Brokeback.

249. - Brokeback. Brokeback. - Big yellow bird.

251. Led him to the train station.

252. How that work?

253. Had the railroad police on me.

254. Couldn't smoke out who was pulling the strings.

255. You need a name.

256. You get that, i can run it down for y'all.

257. I'll get a name.

258. Camera still there?

259. Steal that motherfucker.

260. No one speaks to it, then it's the feds sniffing you out.

261. It's only federals be rich enough to lose a camera

262. And not go to crying about it.

263. You steal that bitch and someone comes knocking,

264. It's local.

265. Steal that bitch.

266. See what comes.

267. Hey, you know the boy used to be with me running these carts?

268. - Go by the name of sherrod. - Mm-hmm.

269. I'm looking for him. Some good news.

270. So if you spot him, you know, tell him to come see me.

271. That's $9 for two. 10 for three.

272. That's 10 even, too. That's a good product.

273. Ain't none of that alley shit.

274. People walking in front of the camera waving, waving "hello."

275. Them chinese made that shit.

277. Here you go. Much obliged.

278. It's a good deal. Good deal.

303. Everybody was here witnessing everything.

304. Took your money?

305. Yeah, man. Same guy every day, you know?

306. He just went— he went down the alley towards pacing street.

307. You cut him off on lafayette.

308. You can't sell on the street without a license.

309. And these movies— it's copyright infringement.

326. Now, i realize that some of these ladies is your relations.

327. I didn't mean to disrespect y'all

328. Or have any feelings hurt.

329. All y'all come in here to learn a sport

330. And better yourselves.

331. Ain't no need for me to get in the way of that.

332. All right.

333. And if your witness is in the game

334. And omar jacked him up good—

335. - What the fuck is this? - Hey, crutch, i'm just asking.

336. No, that dick's a kin to you or what?

337. Hey, vernon, man, you ran the sheet on that old face, right?

338. Yeah. He was an asshole. So what?

339. So what? What's the history?

344. - Fuck you. - Fuck you.

345. Soon as he comes out the gym, yo, bank his ass, man.

346. Make sure that nigger's shook.

347. You thought i wouldn't handle it.

348. You needed some proof.

349. I don't know about all this beefin', man.

350. What, you scared, nigger?

351. You need to pump your ass up some more.

352. Game on.

359. Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.

360. Y'all got to take this shit out of the front of my door.

361. Namond, go inside.

362. Man, fuck you.

363. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

364. Hey, i feel you, man.

365. Ain't no beef here, though. All right?

366. Go inside, man.

367. Yo, what happened to your boy?

368. - Fuck happened to you? - Ain't nothing.

369. You need to see how the other nigger look.

370. - Who was that? - Ain't nothing.

371. I can handle that fool. You ain't have to step to.

372. Oh, shit, no. You had everything under control.

373. Look at your face.

374. Course, i recognize the other boy was high as all hell.

375. And anything can jump off when it's like that, you know?

376. Yeah, and he'd have been on his ass if you ain't mixed in.

377. What's going on? He into something?

378. Ain't none of my business.

379. Yours either.

380. Seriously, you guys ran a hell of a campaign.

381. - No let-up. Lot of heart. - I'll second that.

382. Yeah. I liked the shit when you trotted out

383. That witness story during the debate.

384. And what about the fucking last-minute fliers

385. Of me and the slum lord doing a tango on the courthouse steps?

386. Wait.

387. Parker, who was behind that?

388. I didn't see no royce authority line.

389. Well?

390. Tommy, enough of the bullshit. Hmm?

391. What the hell are we waiting for?

392. Bring your ass around here and try out the big chair.

393. Come on.

394. Come on around here.

395. I'm not even mayor-elect.

396. General election's still a few weeks away.

397. You don't beat crawford

398. In a city where we outnumber republicans

399. Nine to one, you don't deserve the fucking job.

400. Now, get on around here.

401. If i lose the general election,

402. I'll just blame norman here.

403. He's taking over from terry d'agostino.

404. She did good for you.

405. Yeah, she did. The national noticed.

406. She's back at dccc looking to target red-state delegations.

407. After what she pulled off, i hope she got a win bonus.

408. Hell, yeah. They gave her my share, too.

409. Wouldn't you know it?

410. Tommy, whatever you need going forward,

411. For the general election, for the transition—

412. I want to hit the ground running,

413. So i'm gonna need to learn the agencies,

414. The budgets, the problems, all of it.

415. Wherever you want to go, whatever you want to look at.

416. - See to it. - Mm-hmm.

417. It's a hell of a goddamn job.

418. Halfway glad to get out.

419. I'm gonna miss it.

420. Braddock case running you in circles?

421. Whole day was a waste of time.

422. Why not talk to wardell himself?

423. Ask him if he killed the witness against him.

424. If he read the newspapers, he already knows he's a suspect.

425. Will he take a polygraph? Call his lawyer.

426. Tell him they're about to ship the narcotics case off to the federal court

427. Because a state witness was murdered.

428. Tell him if his client doesn't cooperate,

429. He's looking at mandatory minimums and no parole.

430. The feds don't want drug cases anymore,

431. Especially not a case that's gonna fall apart without a key witness.

432. Bluff. What have you got to lose?

433. Maybe he blows the box. Maybe he passes.

434. But he talks a bit either way,

435. And you, detective, get to listen.

436. The fuck am i looking at here?

437. Birds, i think.

438. You see that there?

439. I think that's a wing flapping.

440. Shit. Fuck!

441. Be fucking anywhere, man.

442. - mr. Bond?

443. Hey. Call me rupert.

444. Thanks for coming over.

445. Try to get a running start.

446. Meeting with my unit chiefs.

447. No problem.

448. Congratulations on the election result.

449. You'll be coming in with quite a mandate.

450. Maybe so.

451. So, how can i help you with the transition?

452. There's not a lot of high-end narcotics cases

453. In the pipeline. And major crimes—

454. We've cut it for political reasons.

455. Once the polls put me up there with demper,

456. People started whispering in my ear.

457. And i also heard about your subpoenas.

458. Andy krawczyk, clay davis.

459. Sir, i didn't intend—

460. To go after a couple of royce's money men four weeks

461. Before a primary election?

462. Yeah. I think you're wasted in narcotics.

463. Let me guess.

464. How about vcu as unit chief?

465. What?

466. Violent crimes unit.

467. How about you take that over for me?

468. Carcetti ran on a platform of dropping the murder rate,

469. So vcu is where the sparks are gonna fly, right?

470. You're putting me in charge of all homicide prosecutions?

471. What about ilene nathan?

472. She's moving up to second deputy.

473. I came in here ready to get bounced down to misdemeanors or worse.

474. Why would you think that?

475. The subpoenas and the fact that demper—

476. Demper lost the election.

477. I won.

478. And i admire your courage if not your loyalty.

479. Lester.

480. Excuse me?

481. Forgive me.

482. Vcu is great.

483. I'm more than ready to work murders for you, mr. Bond.

484. Good.

485. Rupert.

486. But now she's told police sex was consensual

487. On paul and monell only, so...

488. - So, randy— - he'll be back tomorrow.

489. And the thing with the police?

490. It's out of my hands. Turn it down, ladies.

491. Quanice, lose the gum.

492. Okay. Settle down.

493. Mr. Prezbo!

494. What dukie doing with a computer?

495. We're gonna have a computer in the class for a special project.

496. And another thing—

497. Dang. They all new and shit.

498. Leave the old ones on your desks.

499. And put your names on the box

500. On the inside cover of the new ones.

501. Okay. Did anyone have any trouble with the homework?

502. Charlene?

503. - I didn't get it. - Didn't get what?

504. - None of it.

505. Michael?

506. That's great. Good job.

507. Calvin, is this your work?

508. 'cause it looks like someone else's.

509. No. I do my work.

510. Okay. Next time, try to remember

511. Not to copy quanice's name at the top.

512. All right. Did everybody get a new textbook?

513. Yes.

514. Great. Okay.

515. Well, for now at least, you can get those out of sight.

516. Namond, why aren't you in uniform?

517. Why did you decide not to wear it?

518. I ain't in my right class, so ain't no need for a uniform.

519. Interesting.

520. Why you always write down everything we say?

521. Trying to get inside our heads or something?

522. You trying to get into mine?

523. Chandra, do you think this is a beauty salon or a classroom?

524. Darnell, why didn't you wear your uniform?

525. I meant to. I did.

526. Yeah, but after, like, a quart of vodka,

527. It be hard and all what color shirt

528. - You supposed to be wearing.

529. And you find that funny, namond?

530. Man, fuck you.

531. Darnell has a drinking problem and namond

532. We believe suffers from conduct-disorder issues.

533. Fuck you.

534. Yeah. He's got a mouth on him. Yeah.

535. Chandra, is it necessary to comb your hair in class?

536. Fuck you, cheese-face bitch!

537. Chandra, i should tell you—

538. You ain't tellin' nobody nothing.

539. Yeah. You know, i was wondering

540. Why she was in the class. She seemed so—

541. Oppositional defiant personality. Textbook case.

542. I'm sorry you're having a bad day,

543. But you're gonna have to take a little walk with miss mason.

544. Come back when you've pulled it all back together again.

545. Yeah. It's bye-bye time for my girl chandra.

546. Yeah. You think?

547. Then to reiterate, this is a polygraph examination,

548. Non-admissible, and the answers to all questions

549. Are regarded as a proffer with a limited grant of immunity.

550. Agreed.

551. Okay. To begin, please answer yes to a series of questions

552. Regardless of whether or not that answer is correct.

553. Is your name anthony wardell?

554. Yeah.

555. And you're from baltimore, maryland?

556. Right now i'm over at city jail, but i'm from east side.

557. So your answer is?

558. Yeah, i'm from baltimore.

559. Are you female?

560. Fuck is wrong with— my bad.

561. Yeah, i'm a bitch.

562. Hey, sweet thing.

563. Chandra.

564. We're working on our short essay. If you—

565. Diamonds are a girl's best friend.

566. Need to get down to lay down.

567. Namond, if you don't stop,

568. I'm gonna have to ask you to leave class.

569. See you sad-ass motherfuckers in about three days.

570. You're leaving class, not school.

571. - What? - That's crazy.

572. What about now, bitch? Huh?

573. Huh?

574. That's not necessary, namond.

575. Oh, you gonna suspend me?

576. We're gonna have a little talk.

577. Man, fuck y'all. I know the rules.

578. You gotta suspend me. School gotta have rules.

579. He right. You gotta have rules.

580. Can't just be throwing that shit out.

581. The point is i can call it like you want.

582. You want him to pass? He passed.

583. You want him to come up inconclusive,

584. He's inconclusive.

585. The fuck kind of science is that?

586. Come on. Did he blow the box or not?

587. I'm here for you, detective.

588. You know what we use the polygraph for?

589. Leverage. To get him in here and fuck with him.

590. No wonder this shit's inadmissible.

591. Let me guess.

592. They're out in the hall and switowski is telling them

593. That he can make it go any way they want.

594. If you think that's how we play it, then why let your client—

595. Because even though there's not much case left

596. Now that your witness is dead,

597. I don't need to expose him to a federal charge

598. If i can avoid it.

599. And because even if switowski bends it for our ears,

600. He's let you know that mr. Wardell here did not blow the box.

601. Yo, i wouldn't kill me.

602. Even if it flips on me, i ain't gonna do shit to the man.

603. Why not?

604. My moms and his— they're, like, cousins.

605. Came up together in the latrobe, you know.

606. I've been knowing him since, like, head start and shit.

607. But he was gonna testify.

608. What i'm looking at on the first conviction on this kind of wave?

609. Seven, eight? Shit, i'll be out in three and a half.

610. You think i'm gonna kill my mom's cousin's boy for three and a half?

611. I know that man helped get himself elected claiming that

612. I did me like that, but please.

613. Dumb-ass motherfucker was gonna testify against me,

614. And i swear to god i feel bad he's dead.

615. I do.

616. Hey, ilene, been looking all over for you.

617. Omar little.

618. From bird's trial a couple years ago.

619. - The stickup boy. - Mm-hmm.

620. He's in city jail on felony murder.

621. Store robbery west side.

622. When i gave him the card,

623. I told him it was for a light felony at best.

624. Yeah, of course, but he needs to get writ out of bcdc

625. And put in protective custody somewhere else.

626. He's sharing his address with about 800 other guys who have

627. Seen the business end of his shotgun.

628. And why do you care?

629. I'm pretty sure that he's being set up on this one.

630. Really? How does that play with the rest of the guys in the squad room?

631. Look, all i'm asking is that you move him

632. To some county detention center at least until

633. I have a chance to work back up on this thing.

634. Now, this card ought to buy him that much.

635. Is hartford county detention center quiet enough?

636. Yeah.

637. Go pick up a writ in my office

638. And tell mr. Little my debt's paid.

639. The fact is that homicides are off 14% of the western this year.

640. But i'm not gonna stand here and take credit for that

641. - When all other ucr felonies are up. - Why not, major?

642. A wise man once told me years ago when i wasn't even a sergeant

643. That you should never take credit when the crime rate drops

644. Unless you want to take the blame when it rises.

645. Atten-hut. Mayor-elect is on deck.

646. Please, back to what you're doing.

647. I'm just a councilman here to observe.

648. At ease, gentlemen.

649. Major daniels, continue your presentation.

650. In any event, rather than allow

651. - My post cars to patrol at random... - Deputy.

652. I put two-man cars in the posts

653. With the worst drug corners—

654. Edmondson avenue, poplar grove,

655. Fayette, and baltimore streets,

656. North avenue.

657. Now, if nothing else,

658. A two-man car is more aggressive,

659. And that helps push it away from the most volatile corners

660. - Which may be having an effect. - Just pushing it?

661. I'm not devoting my resources to cheap street arrests, commissioner.

662. Instead, i'm trying to bring every officer i can

663. To bear on making quality felony cases.

664. I could do more, but, well, it's my opinion

665. That not enough of the troops i have are sufficiently trained

666. To properly investigate such cases.

667. Major, you just insulted your command.

668. Respectfully, sir, too many of my people have spent years

669. Chasing street-level arrests while they grab bodies and make stats.

670. But that doesn't teach you how to write a proper warrant

671. Or testify properly as to probable cause

672. Or use and not get used by an informant.

673. I wish it were otherwise.

674. But if i'm chasing felony cases,

675. I can only bring a minority of my officers to bear.

676. - You got all of it already. - That's right.

677. Make a nigger work. You like that shit.

678. Ain't that right, motherfucker?

679. You can't hide, son.

680. Don't care where it is.

681. In a nigger's ass crack, i'll still find you.

682. Damn. Fucked that man up.

683. Yeah, boy.

684. All right. So we starting a little later than i wanted.

685. Yo, but you said you was gonna peep out of school after lunch.

686. I tried. They won't put me out.

687. Shit. Ain't no school gonna hold me if i want to go.

688. It's this new class they put me in.

689. It's so fucked up, yo, they working all backwards and shit.

690. All right. Let's get to this.

691. Yo, bobby. You working the stash.

692. Yo, yo, why aren't we on out where we was yesterday?

693. - The spot was right. - This is good here.

694. Fuck is wrong with you? We was on the strip yesterday.

695. This ain't shit.

696. Yo, if you don't want to sell my shit, then fuck you, kenard.

697. I keep my money.

698. This spot just as good as the other.

699. Shit...

700. Carv, do you know how much that video camera cost?

701. 4,200, which makes our adventure with fuzzy dunlop

702. Look like a fucking walk in the park.

703. To get the camera from isd, had to get

704. Authorization from your supervisor, right?

705. Still, you lost it doing police work.

706. Your lieutenant will understand.

707. Marimow? You know what that asshole understands?

708. Burning motherfuckers for petty shit like this.

709. - Help me, carv. - This is not my problem.

710. Don't fuck me, carv. Don't fuck me now.

711. You know what this is?

712. This is one of those enabling relationships.

713. Enable me, carv.

714. Enable me to find my fucking camera.

715. You're seeing pigeons?

716. Last night we did.

717. Me and sydnor ran the west side

718. Looking at every pigeon coop we could find.

719. This morning, nothing in the monitor.

720. - You check the pawn shops? - Every one.

721. I fucking know this asshole marlo has my camera.

722. - Oh, fuck me. - What?

723. You just reminded me.

724. I had to brief this kid last week who said he knew

725. Something about a murder that marlo's people did.

726. - I meant to call bunk on it. - Bunk caught the case?

727. No, actually, he had a warrant for the guy who supposedly got killed.

728. I rode around with him on it awhile back.

729. What about me? I got problems here, man.

730. The only thing you can do

731. Is get some wood on marlo stanfield or his people.

732. Scare him enough to send the camera back.

733. What do you have on marlo?

734. I know he's a drug dealer.

735. I can't prove it or nothing, but i know.

736. Okay, listen.

737. How about i let you debrief the kid first? See what he can give you.

738. - This gets the camera home? - Maybe not.

739. But you talk to the runt and maybe he gives you some shit on marlo.

740. Maybe even gives you a murder or two.

741. And before you call homicide on it,

742. You walk it back to marimow

743. Like the cat with the mouse in its teeth.

744. You bring him the murder, he probably forgives the camera.

745. Loomin, line five.

746. Loomin, pick up the fucking phone.

747. Homicide.

748. Looking for detective moreland.

749. No, he stepped out.

750. Could you have him call sergeant carver at the western, please?

751. - Carver. Western. - Yeah. Right.

752. - Hmm. Got it. - All right.

753. Fuck the bunk.

754. - Thoughts on your cabinet? - Lots of them.

755. But top of the list, ervin burrell's ass is gone.

756. I told royce to dump him more than a year ago.

757. But clarence didn't want to piss off the ministers until after the primary.

758. Primary's over. He can do it now.

759. You think clarence royce is gonna do you that favor?

760. He's already thinking about taking a poke at elijah

761. And running for the seventh district congressional seat.

762. He's gonna need every black minister in town to lay hands upon him.

763. - Fine. I'll do it myself. - No, you won't.

764. Royce can fire a black police commissioner,

765. But the newly elected white mayor cannot.

766. Same brothers who voted for you be at your throat.

767. What if i got a black commissioner to replace the son of a bitch?

768. Under burrell, the only black deputy is cawthorne, and he's 70.

769. After that, it's just majors and lieutenants.

770. We go outside. Nationwide search.

771. Deputy chiefs in new york or la

772. Make more than our police commissioner.

773. If you're talented and black, why would you be in baltimore?

774. I have often asked myself that very question

775. On a number of occasions.

776. So i'm stuck with burrell. Fuck.

777. Have a seat.

778. Don't keep him late.

779. He's gotta be at school in the morning.

780. Thought you said he was suspended?

781. They're letting me back in tomorrow.

782. Miss anna want me to be home by 9:00.

783. And don't forget to send him on to bunk after you're done.

784. Look after him. He's a good kid.

785. You hungry?

786. Yeah.

787. Let's eat.

788. Hey, kid, let me ask you right off the bat.

789. You know what a police surveillance camera looks like?

790. Councilman, you sure you don't want to ride with lieutenant grace?

791. I mean, she'll be in command of the ship.

792. What's the point of a ride-along with bosses?

793. I need to see what the troops see, right?

794. - Fine. - I love the idea of a mayor

795. Who knows what we're up against.

796. Officers mcfarlane and ginter,

797. This is the mayor-elect,

798. And he'll be riding with you in sector three.

799. - How you doing? - Hey.

800. - Don't let him get captured.

801. Obviously i didn't know nothing about it in the beginning.

802. Little kevin, he just told me to tell lex

803. To go to the playground behind fulton.

804. 'cause his girl was up there.

805. And lex got killed?

806. - Yeah. - Where did he get killed?

807. So you actually weren't there to see him killed?

808. I told you.

809. Little kevin, he just told me to tell lex to go up to

810. The playground and see this girl patrice.

811. Then later, kevin come up to me and tell me

812. Chris and snoop killed the dude.

813. - What's kevin's last name? - I don't know.

814. - You don't have his name? - Little kevin all i know.

815. So let me get this straight.

816. You told the guy to go somewhere,

817. And then you heard he was killed,

818. But you don't know where he was killed,

819. And you don't even know if anyone ever found the body?

820. How do you lex is really dead?

821. - Everybody know it. - Who is everybody?

822. Everybody from around the way.

823. Yo, listen.

824. People be saying that chris and snoop be turning niggers

825. Into zombies for marlo, but i know that ain't true.

826. When you dead, you dead as all.

827. Zombies, huh?

828. You know what this is?

829. This is bullshit. You're bullshitting me.

830. - No, sir. - You were right there

831. When this lex fellow got dropped, weren't you?

832. - No. - Yes, you were.

833. You're an eyeball witness who can get me snoop and chris both.

834. - I told you— - look, kid.

835. If you were there, you can say so.

836. We can do a lot for you.

837. Maybe help you out with this problem you got at the school.

838. I ain't got a problem no more. I'm good with that.

839. - Come on. You were there, right? - Herc.

840. Just say you were there!

841. So how do you like being mayor so far?

842. I still gotta win the general election in may.

843. Inauguration's not till december.

844. So what do i know?

845. Well, you can't do any worse than royce.

846. City's going to shit.

847. Yeah. Well, what do you guys suggest i do first?

848. - An air strike. White phosphorus. - Yeah.

849. Drop that shit on everything between here and north avenue.

850. - seriously. That shit works.

851. My brother's a marine, right?

852. They use wp over there in fallujah.

853. Signal 13, shots fired 200 north calhoun.

854. Bang. There it is.

855. Now you're gonna see some shit, mr. Mayor.

856. Pardon my french.

857. You know what's fucked up?

858. No one hears the gunshot.

859. On the canvas, no one even claims to hear the shot.

860. So, look. Our next move is to work back on wardell's visiting list.

861. If the sergeant asks, i'm on the street.

862. Fuck is that, 13 on calhoun street?

863. I don't know, but they 1032ed it 10 minutes ago.

864. You're not dropping me off at my crib, are you?

865. I mean, i'd rather you leave me, like, a block or two up from here.

866. I can walk the rest of the way.

867. Don't want to be seen with the police, huh?

868. Yeah.

869. All right, boss. Pull over right here.

870. Fuck was carv thinking?

871. This kid can't give me a murder.

872. We go right at marlo.

873. Fuck the back door when we can go in the front, you know?

874. Next i want a detective at university

875. In case the guy that comes out makes any kind of declaration.

876. Right, and have someone in the room with him.

877. Officer leach has been transported down to you by a sergeant.

878. Service weapon's with detective hollister

879. On the way to ballistics.

880. No. No. Looks like a clean shoot.

881. I've got spent shells from two suspect weapons.

882. Different calibers. Both recovered.

883. Right. Yeah. I know.

884. No, i'm not out here at the scene.

885. But call the pio and have him issue a statement from downtown.

886. Tell the sao that if they want to have someone out here

887. To survey the scene, they need to move now 'cause crime lab

888. Is finishing up, and the ocme van is here waiting.

889. Yeah...

890. Isn't that the western district commander?

891. Yeah. That's daniels.

892. He's the duty officer tonight.

893. Seems to know his business.

894. He ain't as bad as some.

895. Police.

896. Baltimore police.

897. Okay. There's still 85 eligible from september who need an october day.

898. That'll work, ma'am.

899. I'm counting on you fellas to get it done

900. Before the end of the month.

901. I can keep you on salary till then.

902. You know what? This ain't for me.

903. Look. I thank you for the opportunity, ma'am,

904. But it ain't so much just to bring a man for a day or two.

905. I mean, if you had something

906. Where i was working with these kids...

907. Anyway, thanks again.

908. - David. - Hey.

909. Thought you was at ida wells.

910. Language-arts position opened up here,

911. So i came over last year.

912. - Hey. What's up, coach? - Hey.

913. You come over for some of your boys today?

914. Some kind of program?

915. Nah. Something else. Didn't work out really.

916. Be well.

917. You mind if i give him a go?

918. - Sure. - Fuck you!

919. Okay.

920. But you still in this room.

921. Fuck you!

922. You know you're not going back with the others

923. - Till you learn to behave. - Fuck you!

924. Look, until you show you can handle it,

925. You're not going back to your regular class.

926. Fuck you!

927. Look, and you damn sure ain't going home

928. 'cause there ain't no more getting suspended.

929. Mr. Colvin, sir?

930. Fuck you!

931. 'cause i ain't feel like it, that's why. This is bullshit.

932. And i ain't reading no motherfucking book either.

933. I don't even know nothing about the damn book.

934. And you always getting on my ass and shit about some book.

935. Fuck you, you cheese-face bitch.

936. Albert. Albert, settle down now.

937. This gonna be harder than we thought, man.

938. You ain't teaching nobody nothing no how.

939. It's fascinating, though, isn't it?

940. I mean, clinically speaking.

941. Yo, your point's full.

942. I'm hot. I'm gonna get it.

943. All right. I'll cover that.

944. - Me, too. - Betting with my boy randy.

945. You about to get your money taken.

946. - Come on. - All right.

947. - Thank you. - Thank you.

948. Pay up, sucker.

949. Randy, what are you doing?

950. Didn't we go over this?

951. How many ways can you make a four.

952. Not enough for his black ass.

953. Look who's talking.

954. Yo, he just come today,

955. So he missed the whole thing about the odds.

956. Right. Randy.

957. There's only three ways to make a four.

958. And to make a seven—

959. - Six. - That's good.

960. So what should have been your play?

961. Should have bet against the roll.

962. Good to have you back, mr. Wagstaff.

963. - Come on, roll them bones, man. - I got 40.

964. Got 40 on it.

965. Trick them into thinking they aren't learning,

966. And they do.

967. Brokeback. Brokeback.

968. Been looking all over for you.

969. You found me.

970. Look, i been thinking, sherrod...

971. We're going about our thing all wrong.

972. You know, i made the mistake.

973. I thinking i knew you better than you knew yourself.

974. This corner— this corner mess will bring you down fast.

975. You know. I think you need to come home.

976. Right? You come by tonight and we work this shit out together.

977. All right? Thinking on it, why don't you step right now?

978. I don't get paid till 8:00.

979. 8:00, huh?

980. You all right?

981. Just a little tired. That's all.

982. So i'm gonna see you tonight, right, sherrod?

983. You want to help me take a statement?

984. Braddock case is down.

985. Room two.

986. You veteran crime fighters got a name

987. For this here, right?

988. Murder weapon or some shit like that?

989. No fucking way.

990. Slug from autopsy matches two more i pulled from

991. That smokehound's backyard.

992. Block into the side alley from where braddock fell.

993. Our guy's dead from a stray?

994. Fuck face here was shooting at 40s and clorox bottles blocks away

995. Using potatoes for a silencer.

996. Bite me. That's ridiculous.

997. So our guy's dead because a bullet misses a bleach bottle

998. And this fuck carcetti gets to be the mayor behind the stupidity?

999. I fucking love this town.

1000. I do.

1001. Nice pull, greggs.

1002. What's up, guys?

1003. Sherrod!
