2. You unlock this door
with the key of imagination.Copy !req
3. Beyond it is another dimension-Copy !req
4. a dimension of sound,Copy !req
5. a dimension of sight,Copy !req
6. a dimension of mind.Copy !req
7. You're moving into a land
of both shadow and substance,Copy !req
8. of things and ideas.Copy !req
9. You've just crossed over
into the twilight zone.Copy !req
10. Oh, I'm sorry, dear.Copy !req
11. You keep forgetting I'm
no longer a varsity end.Copy !req
12. Oh, it was fun though, huh?Copy !req
13. My doctor should have witnessed
that little activity.Copy !req
14. If you persist in telling me
about your ailments,Copy !req
15. I may just have to run out
and get sick.Copy !req
16. It gets dull, you know.Copy !req
17. Terribly dull.Copy !req
18. I just, uh...Copy !req
19. mentioned it in
passing, my dear.Copy !req
20. What did you do today?Copy !req
21. You, uh... did
you go shopping?Copy !req
22. Oh, I had a ball.Copy !req
23. An absolute wild ball,
an earthshaking ball.Copy !req
24. Want to know what I did?
What?Copy !req
25. Well...Copy !req
26. first of all,
I had breakfast.Copy !req
27. Then I had lunch,Copy !req
28. and then I fired
the stupid maid.Copy !req
29. And thenCopy !req
30. I waited for you,
harmon, dear.Copy !req
31. So, all in all, I'd say
it was one of those daysCopy !req
32. that made you simply want
to go jump off a bridge.Copy !req
33. Am I getting
through to you at all?Copy !req
34. Why, it's smoky the bear.Copy !req
35. Flora, dear, you could
start a serious fire.Copy !req
36. Big daddy, one of these
long, late nights,Copy !req
37. that's exactly
what I'm going to do.Copy !req
38. While you're
at it,Copy !req
39. why don't you pick up the
remnants of that aged eyesoreCopy !req
40. that I so happily
knocked over a
few minutes ago?Copy !req
41. This came
from my mother.Copy !req
42. It's a very old piece, flora.Copy !req
43. Oh?Copy !req
44. Worth what?Copy !req
45. 89 cents?Copy !req
46. I'll tell you
what, big daddy.Copy !req
47. On our anniversary, I'll go out
and buy you six of them.Copy !req
48. I'll take them to the dime store
and have them gift-wrapped.Copy !req
49. Then I'll find you
some of your
favorite musicCopy !req
50. and play it on
your old victrola.Copy !req
51. Something like, uh,
"come to the wildwood church"?Copy !req
52. And other such red-hot
toe-tapping numbers?Copy !req
53. It's worth very littleCopy !req
54. except...Copy !req
55. except for sentimental value.Copy !req
56. That's a word you may
not understand, "sentiment."Copy !req
57. It means "the capacity to love."Copy !req
58. Big daddy,
if I don't fill the bill,Copy !req
59. why don't you just say so
right out?Copy !req
60. Should you fail to know itCopy !req
61. there are 14
flights a day to reno,Copy !req
62. and I would just adore
to be on any one of them.Copy !req
63. Flora, I'm, uh,Copy !req
64. I'm not angry, I just wish
that you would, you would...Copy !req
65. you would try
to be more careful.Copy !req
66. Somebody should have
wished that five years agoCopy !req
67. when we took out
our papers.Copy !req
68. Oh, I knew
you were old, harmon.Copy !req
69. I just didn't
know how old.Copy !req
70. You better be
careful, big daddy,Copy !req
71. because if you ever take me
to a swinging weekend in egypt,Copy !req
72. I just may run away
with a mummy.Copy !req
73. I'll, uh, I'll just wash up
and we'll go to dinner.Copy !req
74. Yeah.Copy !req
75. You do just that.Copy !req
76. We'll make it your night.Copy !req
77. We'll do something really wildCopy !req
78. like go to a band
concert in the park.Copy !req
79. A picture of an aging man who
leads his life as thoreau said:Copy !req
80. In quiet desperation.Copy !req
81. Because harmon gordon
is enslaved by a love affairCopy !req
82. with a wife 40 years his junior.Copy !req
83. Because of this,
he runs when he should walk,Copy !req
84. he surrenders when
simple pride dictates a stand.Copy !req
85. He pines away for the lost
morning of his lifeCopy !req
86. when he should be
enjoying the evening.Copy !req
87. In short, mr. Harmon gordon
seeks a fountain of youth.Copy !req
88. And who's to say
he won't find it?Copy !req
89. This happens to be
the twilight zone.Copy !req
90. Oh, great.Copy !req
91. I didn't ask you
to run the mile,Copy !req
92. just to go dancing
or the movies or something.Copy !req
93. Don't start telling me
about how you took me
out of a chorus lineCopy !req
94. and introduced me
to the finer things.Copy !req
95. Your idea of
the finer thingsCopy !req
96. is to hold hands in
a mausoleum and listen
to the organ music.Copy !req
97. Well, get yourself a nice, tall
glass of warm milk, big daddy,Copy !req
98. and curl up with an almanac,Copy !req
99. 'cause we want you happy,
don't we?Copy !req
100. Uh, could I talk
to dr. Gordon, please?Copy !req
101. Yes, thank you.Copy !req
102. Uh, raymond?Copy !req
103. It's harmon.Copy !req
104. Raymond, I've got
to talk to you tonight.Copy !req
105. Would you please come over?Copy !req
106. Uh, drink all right?Copy !req
107. Uh, yeah,
it's fine.Copy !req
108. You look a little tired, harmon.Copy !req
109. Well, I've been, uh...Copy !req
110. a little rushed
this past week, so...Copy !req
111. flora in bed?Copy !req
112. Uh, yes, yes, she went to bed.Copy !req
113. She asked to be remembered.Copy !req
114. Oh, she'll be remembered.Copy !req
115. You ought to get to know her
better, raymond.Copy !req
116. She's really...
she's really a very fine girl.Copy !req
117. Did I say otherwise?Copy !req
118. Well, I know you two
haven't been exactly close,Copy !req
119. certainly not as closeCopy !req
120. as a brother- and
sister-in-law could be.Copy !req
121. Harmon...Copy !req
122. will you do me a favor?Copy !req
123. Certainly.Copy !req
124. As a matter of fact, two favors.Copy !req
125. First, don't try
to sell me flora.Copy !req
126. You know what
I think of her,Copy !req
127. I've told her myself to her faceCopy !req
128. so I have no compunctions
about saying it aloud.Copy !req
129. She's a brassy,
conniving, little broad.Copy !req
130. Let me finish.Copy !req
131. I could forgive her
her hungers, harmon,Copy !req
132. or the fact that she's
made out of asbestosCopy !req
133. and hasn't got
a heart in her body.Copy !req
134. But I can't forgive herCopy !req
135. for what she's
done to you.Copy !req
136. You know that
she's turned youCopy !req
137. into a frightened,
quaking fool.Copy !req
138. You dote on her,
you give in to her,Copy !req
139. you run after her like a poodle.Copy !req
140. That's item
number one.Copy !req
141. Now the second favorCopy !req
142. is that from now on,
after you've had your battles,Copy !req
143. don't call me at odd hours
of the night.Copy !req
144. I don't do that very often.Copy !req
145. Once is often
and twice is endless.Copy !req
146. We're very close
as brothers go.Copy !req
147. You know there
isn't anythingCopy !req
148. I wouldn't do for you.Copy !req
149. But I can't run over here
like a saint bernardCopy !req
150. every time you get frozen
halfway up the mountainside.Copy !req
151. Now, she's a predatory
little alley cat.Copy !req
152. And she's always
been that way.Copy !req
153. I can just give you so much
solace, so much sympathy,Copy !req
154. and after that,
it begins to craw.Copy !req
155. Now, what is it tonight?Copy !req
156. Just someone to while
away the hours withCopy !req
157. or is there something
quite specific?Copy !req
158. Um...Copy !req
159. um...Copy !req
160. this thing you, uh...Copy !req
161. been working on.Copy !req
162. Go on.Copy !req
163. The cellular serum...
you've been successful with it.Copy !req
164. You must be out of your mind.Copy !req
165. I'm desperate, yes,
but I'm not out of my mind.Copy !req
166. You've made
animals younger,Copy !req
167. I've seen it myself.Copy !req
168. You inject them with your fluid
and they're young again.Copy !req
169. Animals, yes.Copy !req
170. Guinea pigs,
white mice, hamsters.Copy !req
171. I've rejuvenated glands,
organs, sometimesCopy !req
172. a complete cellular structure.Copy !req
173. But we haven't
scratched the surface, harmon.Copy !req
174. We're stumbling
in the dark.Copy !req
175. I want you to inject me.Copy !req
176. You don't know what's involved.Copy !req
177. We're 20 years away from
trying this on a human being.Copy !req
178. Why?Copy !req
179. We're dealing
in basic life form.Copy !req
180. We have no idea of how much
damage might result.Copy !req
181. We don't know how
it will affect the metabolismCopy !req
182. of the body or the mind,
or the effect on the brain.Copy !req
183. We're winging this, we've killed
as many as we've saved.Copy !req
184. You said you'd do
anything for me.Copy !req
185. Anything within reason.Copy !req
186. Oh, but this is
within reason, raymond.Copy !req
187. I've come close
to the end of my rope.Copy !req
188. I'm at the point where
it matters very little to meCopy !req
189. whether I live or die.Copy !req
190. I want you to test this serum
on me, make me young again.Copy !req
191. I don't want to get any older.Copy !req
192. Aside from this pronounced
death wish of yours,Copy !req
193. how would you like
to spend the rest of your lifeCopy !req
194. as a mutated freak?Copy !req
195. Or a gibbering idiot?Copy !req
196. Or a mindless shell?Copy !req
197. That's not only possible,
it's highly probable.Copy !req
198. We can't control an experiment
on a human being.Copy !req
199. It would be catch as catch can.Copy !req
200. I'd not only take the risk,
I'd welcome it.Copy !req
201. The answer is no!Copy !req
202. I wouldn't experiment
on a strange bum I foundCopy !req
203. on the street...Copy !req
204. raymond.Copy !req
205. to say nothing
of my own brother.Copy !req
206. Raymond, please, wait, wait.Copy !req
207. Raymond, please.Copy !req
208. The answer is no.Copy !req
209. Good night, raymond.Copy !req
210. Thank you for coming.Copy !req
211. Harmon.Copy !req
212. As a doctor,
I can tell youCopy !req
213. what the effects
on the human body areCopy !req
214. landing on concrete at the
end of a 500-foot fall.Copy !req
215. As a man, can you tell meCopy !req
216. what the effects are
on the human brainCopy !req
217. when a man is deeply,
totallyCopy !req
218. and dedicatedly love
with a womanCopy !req
219. who can't stand
the sight of him?Copy !req
220. Have you even
the remotest ideaCopy !req
221. what kind of life
this is for me?Copy !req
222. I can tell you
what it could be...Copy !req
223. should be.Copy !req
224. You're a bright, charming,
wealthy, discerning guy,Copy !req
225. and you've been
hammered out of shapeCopy !req
226. by a flashy piece of baggage
not fit to wait on your table.Copy !req
227. Well, whatever she is or isn't,Copy !req
228. she is the only thing
on god's earthCopy !req
229. that I
care about.Copy !req
230. I beg you, give me a chance.Copy !req
231. Give me a chance to save myself.Copy !req
232. And if I don't?Copy !req
233. Then we'll see who
reaches the sidewalk first:Copy !req
234. The man in the elevator
or the free-falling body.Copy !req
235. Oh, my dear god.Copy !req
236. I feel sorry for you.Copy !req
237. Let me think it over
for an hour or two.Copy !req
238. I'll come back.Copy !req
239. Is that it?Copy !req
240. That's it.Copy !req
241. What can I expect?Copy !req
242. You can expect a miracle,Copy !req
243. but you're not very
likely to get it.Copy !req
244. Go to bed now,
don't go to work tomorrow.Copy !req
245. I'll be here
early in the morning.Copy !req
246. I want to be very close to you
for the next few days.Copy !req
247. Well, when can I
expect some change?Copy !req
248. Within six hours.Copy !req
249. That's when the first
physical change is noted.Copy !req
250. As for the mental change,
none of the rats or guinea pigsCopy !req
251. have told me
what the feeling was.Copy !req
252. I'll be the first.Copy !req
253. You'll be the first...Copy !req
254. assuming that
you survive.Copy !req
255. You want to know
something, raymond?Copy !req
256. I'm not only
going to survive,Copy !req
257. I'm going to be young
again, I can feel it.Copy !req
258. I wonder if she has any
idea what she's done.Copy !req
259. Even one slight
little suspicion.Copy !req
260. But I promise youCopy !req
261. that if you don't survive or
if you're damaged in any way,Copy !req
262. I'm going to take it
out of her skin,Copy !req
263. piece by piece.Copy !req
264. She's going to donate
a pint of bloodCopy !req
265. for every pint that
she's bled out of you.Copy !req
266. That's not a
medical hypothesis,
that's a promise.Copy !req
267. Go to bed now.Copy !req
268. I'll see you
in the morning.Copy !req
269. Well, well, if it isn't
the poor man's kildare.Copy !req
270. What brings
you out into the
early dawn, doctor?Copy !req
271. Where's harmon?Copy !req
272. When last seen,
he was pounding a pillow.Copy !req
273. Is he all right?Copy !req
274. What is this,
e.s.p. Or something?Copy !req
275. I asked you a question-
is he all right?Copy !req
276. I presume he is,
but if you don't think soCopy !req
277. just go in there
and blow a bugle.Copy !req
278. No, I'll wait
for him to get up.Copy !req
279. Yeah, you do that.Copy !req
280. Take off your stethoscope
and make yourself at home.Copy !req
281. Haven't you talked
to him this morning?Copy !req
282. I haven't talked
to anybody.Copy !req
283. Until you pounded
at the doorCopy !req
284. at this ungodly hour.Copy !req
285. Did you talk
to him last night?Copy !req
286. He said something
when he went to bed.Copy !req
287. I hardly heard him.Copy !req
288. He sounded
lucid to you?Copy !req
289. Look, pally, I'm
not the night nurse.Copy !req
290. I think you're
in the wrong ward.Copy !req
291. Besides that,
you bore me.Copy !req
292. How do you feel,
harmon?Copy !req
293. How do you feel, harmon?Copy !req
294. I ask for vince edwards
and look what they send me.Copy !req
295. Ah, it's incredible
what a good night's sleepCopy !req
296. will do for a man, isn't it?Copy !req
297. Harmon?Copy !req
298. What have you...Copy !req
299. are you wearing
makeup or something?Copy !req
300. Makeup... no, no.Copy !req
301. No makeup, just
a good night's sleep.Copy !req
302. Well...Copy !req
303. you look so different.Copy !req
304. Oh, do I?Copy !req
305. Yes, you...Copy !req
306. well, you look
wonderfulCopy !req
307. you, you look
so young.Copy !req
308. What's happened
to you?Copy !req
309. Ask my brother
over there.Copy !req
310. No, his brother
doesn't know.Copy !req
311. Howdoyou feel,
harmon?Copy !req
312. I feel like
a million dollars
tax-free,Copy !req
313. that's how I feel.Copy !req
314. Know what I'll do
for you, ray?Copy !req
315. I'll let you
take me on tour.Copy !req
316. They'll write you up
in all the medical journals.Copy !req
317. But first you've got
to give me four weeks.Copy !req
318. Flora and I are going to go
on a little ocean trip.Copy !req
319. An ocean trip?Copy !req
320. Mm-hmm.Copy !req
321. Well...
well, that's wonderful.Copy !req
322. When do we go?Copy !req
323. I've been thinking.Copy !req
324. We ought to see if there's
anything sailing tonight.Copy !req
325. Unless of course
you'd rather fly.Copy !req
326. Oh, fly, sail,
who cares?Copy !req
327. Ooh, big daddy, I don't know
what you've done to yourselfCopy !req
328. but let me clue you in
about something:Copy !req
329. I don't care,
'cause I like this fine.Copy !req
330. Oh, yes, I like it fine.Copy !req
331. I don't want you to plan
any trips for quite a while.Copy !req
332. Oh, blow it.Copy !req
333. I'll just go and change
for you, all right?Copy !req
334. Where would you
like to go?Copy !req
335. Paris? Rome?
Tokyo? Hmm?Copy !req
336. Anywhere you say.Copy !req
337. I'm your passenger.Copy !req
338. Oh...Copy !req
339. mmm, ahh...Copy !req
340. why, this is
incredible.Copy !req
341. You haven't looked that way
since you were 30 years old.Copy !req
342. That's fantastic,
it's absolutely fantastic.Copy !req
343. I keep getting younger.Copy !req
344. If I keep going at this rate,
I'll be drafted.Copy !req
345. If you don't stop,
we may be in trouble.Copy !req
346. Oh!Copy !req
347. What do you mean, trouble?
What kind of trouble?Copy !req
348. I wish I knew...Copy !req
349. how much longer it would go onCopy !req
350. or how long
before it stops.Copy !req
351. Oh, it's still
going on.Copy !req
352. I can feel it.Copy !req
353. Harmon?Copy !req
354. It's still going on,
what... what is...Copy !req
355. oh...
harmon?Copy !req
356. Harmon, what's
going on with you?Copy !req
357. What's happening?
Harmon?Copy !req
358. Leave him go.Copy !req
359. I want him
to go to bed.Copy !req
360. Go to bed, harmon.Copy !req
361. Raymond, you tell me
what's happening to him.Copy !req
362. Quiet, leave him alone!Copy !req
363. What's going on?Copy !req
364. Leave him alone.Copy !req
365. What is it?Copy !req
366. Sit down, flora.Copy !req
367. But I want to see him.Copy !req
368. You will.Copy !req
369. But I don't want you
to wake him.Copy !req
370. He's in shock now, and sleep
is precisely what he needs.Copy !req
371. I want
to see him right now.Copy !req
372. No, not now.Copy !req
373. Right now, flora,Copy !req
374. as of this moment, you've
got to readjust your life.Copy !req
375. What are you
talking about?Copy !req
376. Look, is this
some kind of a trick?Copy !req
377. I want to see harmon,
I want to see my husband.Copy !req
378. Your husband
is sleeping.Copy !req
379. When he wakes up,
he's going to need help.Copy !req
380. Help?Copy !req
381. What kind of help?Copy !req
382. I want to see him.Copy !req
383. You will.Copy !req
384. But I think you'd
best get oriented.Copy !req
385. Flora, the ground
rules change now.Copy !req
386. Now you stay
in your own yard.Copy !req
387. The world doesn't begin
and end with flora anymore.Copy !req
388. It isn't just flora's wishes
and flora's temperament,Copy !req
389. and flora's
capacity for anger.Copy !req
390. Now it's something else.Copy !req
391. It's very different.Copy !req
392. You have a
responsibility now.Copy !req
393. And you're going
to honor it.Copy !req
394. You're going to
take care of harmon.Copy !req
395. He's going to need you.Copy !req
396. Flora!Copy !req
397. If you're leaving,
make note of the factCopy !req
398. that what you're wearing
is all that you take with you.Copy !req
399. If you think that
I'm going to stayCopy !req
400. and take care of a grubby,
thumb-sucking little kid...Copy !req
401. that's precisely
what you're going to do.Copy !req
402. And short of thatCopy !req
403. you leave here
exactly as you arrived:Copy !req
404. Unadorned.Copy !req
405. All the fursCopy !req
406. and the jewelryCopy !req
407. and anything else
that my brother gave youCopy !req
408. remain here.Copy !req
409. He can't make me stay here.Copy !req
410. You can't make me
stay here, either.Copy !req
411. There are other fish
in this ocean, mister.Copy !req
412. Indeed there are,
but you're not married to them.Copy !req
413. You happen to be married
to my brother.Copy !req
414. That's crazy.Copy !req
415. Crazy?Copy !req
416. No. It's bizarre.Copy !req
417. And it's a fact.Copy !req
418. And if I ever hear
