The Rookie 1x5

1. Should we be flattered that Sergeant Grey

2. selected us to represent the department

3. at this block party?

4. I think you're forgetting four key words —

5. On our day off.

6. I'll take it as a vote of confidence.

7. This is some great swag. Did you get this from Grey?

8. I think Officer Above and Beyond bought those himself.

9. Hey. I got a guy at Kinko's, okay?

10. Mm-hmm.

11. All right, you guys make yourself useful

12. and, uh, fill these up with water.

13. I saw a hose in that side yard.

14. How you doing?

15. Fine.

16. You want to talk about it?

17. There's nothing to talk about.

18. So let's just focus on the work.

19. I just wanted to make sure you weren't still mad.

20. Do I look mad?

21. No.

22. Look, you're on the rebound from a 20-year marriage.

23. This was never gonna be long-term.

24. So let's just move on.

25. Is that your girlfriend?

26. Hey, kids. Ever been tased?

27. Nice pins. Thank you, sir.

28. This might be your only hope to lure those kids from LAFD.

29. All due respect, sir, they have a fire engine.

30. To a 6-year-old, that's crack.

31. I am not gonna be shown up by some department

32. that publishes shirtless calendars.

33. West, Chen, let's get in the game.

34. Hey, Antonio. Here's a button.

35. Okay.

36. Um, I guess I have stickers.

37. Hey. Hypothetically, if a neighborhood cat has been killed

38. and the owners contact the authorities,

39. will you investigate?

40. Did you kill a cat?

41. I told you the cat's hypothetical.

42. Did you kill anything non

43. Hey! They're free! You don't have to r-run.

44. Hey, guys. Where's your friend?

45. He ran out of ammo.

46. Help! He's not breathing! I need a CPR mask.

47. Clear out! Grab that gurney!

48. Good job, Antonio.

49. Thank you.

50. Good job.

51. Lucy?

52. Oh!

53. Ben? Whoa. Hey.

54. Well, is that how you greet

55. your best friend turned landlord?

56. I wasn't expecting you for another week.

57. Well, I got homesick.

58. I mean, I was also worried that I abandoned you

59. in your time of need. Yeah, it's been really tough

60. living here. You know what I mean?

61. Right. Come here.

62. Good to see you. You too.

63. Oh, man. You look good.

64. Thank you.

65. Coffee machine?

66. Yeah. Hot off the factory floor.

67. It's from my foundation in Guatemala

68. that empowers young mothers

69. by helping them to start their own business.

70. Making hot beverages. Among other things.

71. I didn't think you'd want the lactation device.

72. Good call. Yeah.

73. So, when did you start carrying a gun?

74. When I became a cop.

75. Oh. You didn't think I was gonna see it through.

76. No. Well, maybe a little.

77. Yeah, I just assumed that you'd get distracted

78. by the sunshine and yoga instructors.

79. Not that anyone would blame you.

80. But, uh, being a cop seems really dangerous.

81. It is, but it's also very fulfilling.

82. That's great. You needed a purpose.

83. I-I did have a thing with one of my fellow rookies.

84. That was dumb. Why? We're both responsible adults.

85. How old is she?

86. 28.

87. You've been 40 since you were 20, right?

88. Not everybody's like you.

89. Was it serious?

90. Yeah.

91. Then it's good that I'm home.

92. All right, settle down. Settle down.

93. Listen. Everyone knows what today is,

94. and I just want to say that Team Bradford

95. is gonna dominate once again.

96. Yeah, not this year, Blondie.

97. Dominate what?

98. The Roundup. Happens everyone year

99. when the rookies are a month into the job.

100. The T.O.s sponsor a competition

101. for the most felony arrests in one shift.

102. Sounds like fun.

103. What? We were both there

104. when pub trivia almost got violent.

105. Mm-hmm. I like a little healthy competition.

106. - Mm.

107. You're cutthroat and relentless.

108. Which I respect.

109. Sgt. All right, settle down.

110. Don't think I didn't see you up in my spot, Bradford.

111. So, I am aware that today is the day

112. where our T.O. units compete for most arrests.

113. Under no circumstance does the department endorse this.

114. Meaning...

115. I don't want to hear about your points or strategy.

116. Am I clear, Officer Bradford?

117. Yes, sir. This job isn't about winning.

118. It's about good policing and teamwork.

119. We win at any cost.

120. Oh. But Sergeant Grey just said —

121. He said he doesn't want to hear about it,

122. which is different than saying don't do it.

123. Now, the scoring is like football.

124. 7 points for a felony arrest.

125. 3 points for a misdemeanor.

126. And we focus on quality over quantity.

127. Okay. So what's our strategy?

128. So, slow and steady or shock and awe?

129. Neither. We're not playing.

130. But Jackson said all the T.O.s compete.

131. Well, he was misinformed. But if we were to win —

132. Officer Nolan, if you make it to T.O.,

133. then you can choose to play.

134. But right now, the decision is mine.

135. And we will not be participating.

136. Is that clear?

137. Understood.

138. Hold up, Boot.

139. What?

140. What is that? Insurance.

141. - Nell. - Hey.

142. Look at you.

143. You are positively glowing. What's your secret?

144. Um... I hiked Malibu Creek yesterday.

145. You should try it. Good for the soul.

146. I bet.

147. Listen, I saw this at the bookstore yesterday,

148. thought of you.

149. That is so sweet.

150. Oh, my gosh. Kilimanjaro — I have been dying to go someday.

151. You will.

152. Hey. So, listen, as calls come in

153. that sound like felony arrests, can you send them to us?

154. And not over the radio?

155. Um, that would qualify as favoritism. So...

156. But I am your favorite.

157. Come on. For me?

158. Isn't that cheating?

159. I'm celebrating the unsung heroes of the LAPD.

160. In exchange for hot calls.

161. Isn't our job to respond to any crime,

162. no matter the anticipated outcome?

163. Of course.

164. But if you're gonna be some Pollyanna on my shoulder all day,

165. I'll be happy to loan you out to clean the drunk tank.

166. Heard there were some heavy pukers there last night.

167. Clearly, I misspoke when I said cheating. I —

168. Oh, you gotta be kidding me.

169. Oh, hey! Look what we found

170. just two blocks away.

171. A burglary and a conspiracy lookout.

172. Are you here booking someone? No.

173. Oh. Then I guess we're first on the boards.

174. 14 points. Hey!

175. Aah!

176. 7-Adam-15, property damage.

177. Washington at Carson.

178. Multiple callers report man on scaffolding

179. causing a 4-15. LAFD on scene.

180. Come on down, okay?

181. Is this a Banksy thing?

182. Don't care. It's a crime thing.

183. So is there a reason we can't compete in The Roundup?

184. "Because I said so" should be all the reason you need.

185. If you're worried I can't be impartial

186. because of Lucy, don't be.

187. 'Cause that's over now. Really.

188. How're you handling it?

189. See a little blame in your eyes.

190. No, ma'am. It's the right thing to do.

191. And do not worry. It will not affect my work.

192. Glad to hear that.

193. I'm gonna go check in with the fire captain.

194. Keep an eye on our vandal. Right.

195. Hey, come down!

196. 7-Adam-07, wellness check, 552 Oakwood.

197. ER nurse reports patient with suspected stroke

198. disappeared from the hospital.

199. 7-Adam-7, show us Code 6 on the wellness check.

200. 14 points out the gate. You ever done that before?

201. No, but we got to keep the pressure on.

202. Bradford's always got a trick or two up his sleeve.

203. I hope our patient didn't come home and croak,

204. or we'll get stuck here all day.

205. Wow, less than an hour into the competition

206. and you're already exhibiting a visible lack of compassion.

207. I'm sorry. You're right.

208. That was extremely insensitive of me.

209. Police.

210. Mr. Walker? Yeah?

211. Sir, are you okay?

212. Your ER nurse said you left the hospital

213. before you were discharged.

214. She tried calling you, but you didn't answer.

215. Oh. Uh I'm — I'm — I'm sorry.

216. I was feeling better, and that hospital food,

217. you know, it's just — it's just so awful.

218. So I came home for some leftovers.

219. Can you please tell her thank you from me

220. for — for checking up on me?

221. Yeah. Sure thing. Hope you feel better, sir.

222. - Thank you.

223. Okay, sweet. He's fine.

224. And we can get back out there.

225. What?

226. He was lying to us. About what?

227. I don't know. But he was clearly nervous.

228. You were so ready to move on, you missed it.

229. Stealing opioids from the hospital

230. is a felony, Mr. Walker.

231. I'm just making ends meet.

232. You know how hard it is to live on a fixed income?

233. My grandparents moved into a townhouse.

234. Just saying. There's options.

235. Any way we can speed things up?

236. I've blown up pool rafts faster.

237. Ah, we almost there, bro.

238. Meanwhile, got to stay hydrated.

239. Thanks. Hey, good job with that kid yesterday.

240. I mean, my part gets all the attention,

241. but you were the real hero.

242. Well, my son was a daredevil since birth.

243. Had to keep an eye on him 24/7.

244. You sound like my dad, man.

245. Hey, that rookie cop, Lucy, is she single?

246. 'Cause I picked up on a vibe yesterday.

247. I think so.

248. Cool.

249. Thanks, bro.

250. Hey, there.

251. You got something against Ganja Garden

252. or just signs in general?

253. You think that's funny?

254. You know, five years ago, I got pulled over

255. with an ounce of weed in my car.

256. An ounce.

257. I couldn't afford no lawyer,

258. so the public defender made me take a deal.

259. Five years I sat in that box, man.

260. And you mean to tell me all these little

261. Silver Lake hipster kids,

262. they can just walk around,

263. vaping like it's nothing?

264. I can see why you're frustrated.

265. Don't patronize me, man.

266. Because it was a cop just like you

267. that put me in that box.

268. You know, my mom died while I was inside, man.

269. And now every time I fill out a job application,

270. I gotta put down felon.

271. Okay, look, what — what happened to you was wrong.

272. Okay, this — this is just gonna make it worse. Right?

273. Come on. Let's — Let's get down from here.

274. Okay.

275. - Nolan!

276. Aah!

277. Ow!

278. Aah!

279. Officer Nolan, is there a reason

280. you're walking with an OG lean?

281. Oh, no. I just, uh —

282. My right shoulder's just a little tingly.

283. Huh. 'Cause I don't remember telling you

284. to climb up there and remove the suspect.

285. And you don't put yourself in a high-risk situation

286. without my say-so. Right.

287. I just had a slight miscommunication

288. with that firefighter. Is that right?

289. Is that the same guy who asked me

290. about a hot rookie named Lucy?

291. You too? God, that guy's a piece of work.

292. Is that why you ignored proper protocol

293. and climbed up there?

294. Or was it the competition?

295. Uh... okay, look,

296. you told me to stop dating Lucy, and I did.

297. And you told me I couldn't compete.

298. Haven't I earned a slightly longer leash with you?

299. No. And after what happened out there,

300. it's clear you don't deserve one.

301. Nolan and Talia are on the board.

302. Damn it. Call Nell. Put her on speaker.

303. Hello?

304. Hey, it's Officer Bradford.

305. You haven't forgotten about me, have you?

306. No. Of course not.

307. Um, we've actually just — we've been a little slow.

308. Oh, um, we just got a 911 call —

309. DUI hit-and-run, teenage pedestrian injured.

310. Black 528i. Last seen eastbound on Melrose.

311. Perfect. Attach us to that, please.

312. And, Nell... Mm

313. you're the best.

314. 7-Adam-15, we have a noise complaint

315. at the Eaton Company Lofts, number 501.

316. We're gonna shut this down.

317. No cowboy stuff. Understood?

318. Yes, ma'am. You've been very clear. Really?

319. Is that why you're on a group text about the score?

320. You can't keep secrets from me, Officer Nolan.

321. I thought we established that. So stop trying.

322. Yes, ma'am.

323. LAPD. Open up, Mr. Askari.

324. Whoo. Uh, coming.

325. Just give me a second.

326. Open up!

327. Ah. Can I help you?

328. We got a noise complaint.

329. You've been playing loud music for hours.

330. Hmm. Sorry. Just blowing off a little steam.

331. My office is next door.

332. I stay here when I work late.

333. We were just having a little fun.

334. No harm in that, right?

335. Depends on what kind of fun you're having.

336. Uh, just give us a moment.

337. I do believe he's paying these ladies. What's the point?

338. Well, shouldn't we arrest them for prostitution?

339. With what evidence?

340. Cite the guy for noise, identify the girls.

341. We'll pass it on to Vice.

342. Hey, Mr. Askari, I'm just gonna need, uh,

343. a little bit of information. Sure.

344. Hello.

345. Officer Bishop, we have a gun.

346. Hmm. Do you have a permit for this weapon, sir?

347. A friend gave it to me.

348. That's a felony weapon possession.

349. Everybody get dressed.

350. We're taking Peter for a ride.

351. You all paid up with the girls?

352. - Nice try. - Almost had him.

353. Yeah.

354. Nell seems nice.

355. Yeah.

356. What's your point?

357. She likes you.

358. She's doing me a favor. That's all.

359. I'm married, Officer Chen,

360. and this isn't something you and I talk about.

361. Keep your eyes peeled for our DUI.

362. Yes, sir.

363. There. 7-Adam-19,

364. DUI suspect sighted heading east on Melrose.

365. 7-Adam-19, turning north onto Serrano.

366. Let's go, Boot. He might try and run.

367. LAPD. Hands.

368. Don't move. Show us your hands.

369. Whoa.

370. This is a first.

371. Don't worry. I'm not going a-anywhere.

372. 7-Adam-19, DUI suspect crashed at Melrose and Serrano.

373. We need ambulance and fire, Code 3.

374. Okay, sir, just hang in there.

375. The ambulance is here now.

376. Should I pull it out?

377. No, no, no. Don't move, don't move.

378. Stay still. I'm gonna cut this pipe.

379. Three... two —

380. You have the right to remain silent.

381. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.

382. You have the right to an attorney present during questioning.

383. If you cannot afford an attorney,

384. one will be appointed to represent you.

385. Do you understand each of these rights?

386. Yes, sir.

387. Now, you're required to provide a chemical sample

388. if suspected of driving while impaled —

389. sorry, impaired. You can choose

390. between blood, breath, or urine.

391. A refusal will result in the immediate suspension

392. of your license for a minimum of a year.

393. Yes.

394. We need to get him to surgery!

395. No, not before I get my blood draw.

396. 21-gauge vial. Can't this wait?

397. He's obviously — Wait, what

398. He's what

399. This guy got drunk and hit a kid with his car,

400. maybe killed him. If we wait,

401. his blood alcohol will return to normal,

402. and we'll lose a crucial piece of evidence.

403. And you sure this has nothing to do

404. with the 7-point felony arrest?

405. Boot, criminals get hurt all the time during a crime.

406. They don't get special treatment if they get a boo-boo.

407. Understood?

408. Yes, sir.

409. Now call in our 7 points.

410. There must be some way we can work this out.

411. Are you offering us a bribe?

412. Everyone knows that cops are underpaid.

413. Yeah, don't look at me.

414. I don't pay rent, and I live right by the ocean.

415. Mr. Askari, you're already facing one felony.

416. You want to add to those charges?

417. No. Let's just get this over with.

418. Officer Bishop. Captain wants to see you in the bullpen.

419. Start processing him. I'll be back.

420. Okay.

421. All right, I'm gonna need your shoes and your socks.

422. There.

423. I know that look.

424. I mean, I've never been caught in a room full of hookers

425. with a gun before, but I can clearly see

426. you're not looking forward to the phone call to your wife.

427. My wife's the least of my problems.

428. What does that mean?

429. News travels quick in my line of work.

430. And what line of work is that?

431. Banking.

432. You know that guy?

433. Yeah.

434. He's the lawyer.

435. I mean, my lawyer.

436. Article 849B authorizes peace officers

437. to release arrested persons from custody

438. due to insufficient grounds to file a complaint

439. against said person.

440. Conceal and carry permit.

441. Signed by Judge Sather.

442. How'd you even know he was arrested?

443. Did one of his hookers call you?

444. Who called me is not your concern.

445. You have no right to hold my client,

446. so release him immediately.

447. You can stop printing him.

448. Suspect's attorney has provided a permit for the weapon.

449. He has?

450. Is that a problem?

451. Do you not want to go?

452. No.

453. I mean yes, yes.

454. Can you take him to his lawyer?

455. Mm-hmm.

456. I don't get it.

457. If he had a permit for the gun,

458. why not just tell us back at the apartment?

459. I doubt he had one an hour ago.

460. Can you get a permit that fast?

461. If you know the right people.

462. Usually when a fancy lawyer shows up

463. with a same-day permit,

464. there's usually a link to organized crime.

465. You had the "big fish, little fish" conversation yet?

466. No. Only big fish, little fish I'm familiar with

467. are Dr. Seuss-related.

468. This is not that.

469. There is a hierarchy on the street,

470. just like there is in here.

471. Patrol are the foot soldiers. Little fish.

472. Dealing with the other guy's foot soldiers.

473. The bigger their fish, the higher up the ladder you have to go.

474. Mr. Askari is clearly connected to a big fish

475. who has the juice to get that kind of permit.

476. The numbers are black and white.

477. We have 28, while each of you only has 7.

478. There's still a whole second half of our shift.

479. And you know I'm a closer.

480. You know we're not playing.

481. Oh, right, you're above all this.

482. Mm. When you're chief,

483. we promise not to divulge you had any fun on the job.

484. It's not fun.

485. It's a relic of a time when the department

486. drove a wedge between the cops and the community.

487. I get it. You think it promotes an "us versus them" mentality.

488. And you're right. But the "them" isn't the community.

489. It's the criminals.

490. I just arrested a guy for putting a teenager in a coma.

491. And I'm not gonna apologize for hustling

492. to get that guy off the street.

493. I'm not asking you to.

494. All I'm asking you to do is take a hard look

495. as to whether this contest

496. teaches those rookies the right lesson.

497. I just don't think septuagenarians should even count.

498. I don't know why we're arguing about it.

499. 'Cause you're a bad loser.

500. A felony drug bust is a felony drug bust.

501. He does this with Monopoly.

502. Changes the rules mid-game.

503. When did we play Monopoly?

504. That time you were out with your parents, I think. You weren't there. It was, um...

505. No.

506. When was this?

507. Time to go, Boot.

508. Okay. All right.

509. You okay?

510. Fine. I'm just focusing on the job.

511. I meant your arm.

512. You're clearly in pain.

513. No. If I was in pain, could I do this?

514. That firefighter, Antonio, said you did a high dive.

515. When did you talk to Antonio? He called.

516. That was fast. Is that a problem?

517. Not at all. No.

518. We're moving on, right?

519. Yeah. Right.

520. Do I need to be worried that your mood

521. is gonna affect our chances in this competition?

522. I'm fine. Because I've won this five years and counting.

523. Yeah, I get it.

524. I won't let you down.

525. You're clear what happened earlier with our DUI, right?

526. That wasn't about score. It was about making sure

527. that guy sees the inside of a cell.

528. Yeah. It's just —

529. It's hard when he's the one

530. that's bleeding out in front of you.

531. Understood.

532. But it's our job to always maintain perspective.

533. Hey, so we just got a call about an armored car robbery.

534. Suspects were seen wearing ski masks on Wilshire and Robertson.

535. Hot damn. We're back in it.

536. Get down, Boot.

537. What happened?

538. There's a safety feature in armored cars

539. that allows drivers to escape to the back under fire.

540. They're now locked in a bulletproof fortress,

541. and we're gonna be here all day trying to get them out.

542. 7-Adam-19, shots fired.

543. Suspects barricaded, requesting SWAT.

544. I'll call the armored car company.

545. They should have a master key.

546. It'll take them hours to get here.

547. Hours where Lopez and Talia are running up the score on us.

548. You seem more interested in that

549. than in us getting lit up by the guys in the truck.

550. What happened to maintaining perspective?

551. You know, save the psychoanalysis

552. for Christmas dinner with the folks, okay?

553. My perspective is spot-on.

554. I want to win and put these guys behind bars.

555. Yeah, I do, too. But they're not going down without a fight.

556. We need backup. And I called for it.

557. Which is what they expect us to do.

558. They think —

559. They think we'll stay here all day and wait for them.

560. Which means their guard will be down.

561. It's bulletproof. You're not gonna get in with that.

562. I don't need to get in. I need them to come out.

563. If they're armed and barricaded, we should wait for SWAT.

564. The weapons won't matter if they can't see anything.

565. Cover the back.

566. Just add pepper spray and...

567. Drop your weapon! Down on the ground! Down on the ground!

568. Down on the ground and on your stomachs!

569. Hands behind your head!

570. Put your hands behind your back.

571. Felony carjacking, armed robbery,

572. attempted murder.

573. That's 14 more points, Boot.

574. Capt. I know who the banker's big fish is.

575. Viggo Petrov. High-ranking member of the Odessa Mafia.

576. The Russian mob?

577. They're responsible for heroin,

578. money laundering, prostitution.

579. How does Peter connect?

580. DEA suspects that he's Petrov's money launderer.

581. Explains why they sent the lawyer so quickly.

582. Petrov can't risk Peter getting chatty

583. when faced with jail time. Mm-hmm.

584. DEA was actually pissed that we let him go so quickly.

585. They thought I should be holding on to him

586. for the full 24 hours the law allows.

587. I told him I don't do business that way.

588. How'd that go over?

589. As well as you can imagine.

590. Hey. Tim and Lucy just got 14 more points.

591. We need to get back out there.

592. Do I feel like salty or sweet?

593. Did you hear what I said?

594. Relax. We're still in the lead.

595. There's only a few more hours left in our shift.

596. Teams lose when they play it safe.

597. They also lose when they abandon the fundamentals.

598. I rushed through a few arrests when I played as a rookie,

599. and they got bounced. I learned the hard way

600. that guns blazing isn't a good mode for this line of work.

601. Does that mean we're not gonna try and win this thing?

602. It means we need to win it the right way.

603. Is that a problem?

604. No, ma'am. Good answer.

605. Salty.

606. Uh, where — where are you going?

607. Uh, my shift's over.

608. Mine's not.

609. Uh, any way you can stick around and be a part

610. of the Bradford team a little longer?

611. How much longer? Three hours?

612. Well, that will cost you.

613. A drink.

614. I mean, later. After. When you're off-duty.

615. Deal. Deal.

616. Okay, thanks. Mm-hmm.

617. 7-Adam-15, mother and child causing a disturbance

618. at Southland Sanctuary Shelter.

619. 69302 Western.

620. It's not right! Where the hell are we supposed to go?

621. Ma'am, I'm gonna need you to calm down a bit.

622. Ma'am, what's going on?

623. We need beds. We slept on the street last night,

624. but it's not safe. - I'm sorry.

625. I wish we could help, but we have no empty beds.

626. And state law prohibits us from accepting any more people.

627. Hi, there, little guy. I'm John.

628. You look cold. Are you feeling cold?

629. Okay. Hang on a second.

630. I'll be right back.

631. Did you tell her about other shelters in the area?

632. Yes. But they've already been turned away at the ones nearby.

633. All right.

634. Here you go. This'll help a little.

635. That'll warm you up.

636. You can keep that. Thanks.

637. Officer Nolan, a word?

638. They can't sleep in the lobby.

639. We're gonna have to escort them out.

640. That's not right. We can't just kick them out.

641. Yeah, well, unfortunately, this city has 60,000 homeless.

642. We can't find beds for all of them.

643. No, but we can find beds for these two.

644. Even if it takes the rest of our shift

645. and you lose the competition?

646. Well, we're not playing. Remember?

647. Okay.

648. Can you give us a list of all the city shelters?

649. We're gonna start making some calls.

650. Okay.

651. Yeah, no, thank you for double-checking.

652. No, I get it.

653. Yes. Thank you.

654. Those are the last ones.

655. What about taking them out of the city?

656. We could give them a ride. No, we can't.

657. Sadly, there's — there's nothing more we can do.

658. I'm sorry, but we, uh —

659. we couldn't find you a place to sleep tonight.

660. I'm so sorry.

661. Thank you for trying.

662. This is why I don't play.

663. 'Cause it's not a game.

664. I'm sorry.

665. Go on.

666. I did blame you for Lucy,

667. even though I know you were looking out for her.

668. And then you barred me from the competition,

669. and I —

670. Well, let's just say it has not been my finest day on the job.

671. We're not robots, Officer Nolan.

672. We all have bad days.

673. But our bad days pale in comparison

674. to the people we meet.

675. They need us at our best.

676. You ever struggle with that?

677. Every day.

678. I just don't show it.

679. 7-Adam-15, homeowner called

680. about a possible intruder.

681. 71 Holmby Avenue.

682. 7-Adam-15, copy.

683. Huh. What?

684. Our banker — Peter Askari — he's the homeowner.

685. 7-Adam-15, be advised. That call was just canceled.

686. Homeowner reporting it was a raccoon.

687. 7-Adam-15, copy.

688. You buying that? What?

689. Our mob banker,

690. who was clearly freaked out over being arrested,

691. calls 911 about an intruder the same night.

692. I'm just saying, what if it wasn't a raccoon?

693. You think he called again under duress?

694. I think it's worth taking a look.

695. Big fish, little fish, Officer Nolan.

696. If it turns out to be something, we'll call in the big fish.

697. Which is who again, exactly? SWAT.

698. Seems quiet.

699. Heard you attached to a false alarm.

700. Figured something big might be up.

701. How'd you hear that? Did you bribe dispatch again?

702. Again?

703. I just thought you might need some backup.

704. Unless you're too focused on getting

705. all the points for yourself.

706. We're not playing.

707. Well, then, you won't mind us tagging along.

708. I got a body.

709. They slit her throat.

710. 7-Adam-15, requesting SWAT for a hostage situation,

711. one dead, Code 3.

712. No, no!

713. No, no, no, no, no, no, no!

714. - Guys, we can't wait.

715. If they've already killed one, they can kill the banker

716. and his wife at any moment. We need to go in now.

717. So, what, we go in stealth?

718. Yeah. Upstairs or downstairs?

719. We'll take upstairs.

720. "I don't know. I don't know."

721. Stop lying!

722. Stop! Stop, please!

723. No. No!

724. Wait. Wait, wait, wait. No. What? No, no!

725. You have to believe me! Wait. Wait! Wait!

726. We've got to get in there. We will.

727. We just need Tim and Lucy to get into place.

728. Is somebody else in the house?

729. I checked it. Go check again.

730. Aah!

731. Aah! Aah!

732. Clear! Clear! Clear!

733. Okay, how do we split up the points?

734. I told you.

735. I know, I know. You're not playing.

736. But we need to figure out how to split them up right.

737. It's not tricky, just give him more.

738. Wait, uh, are you guys trying to rig it so Tim wins?

739. N— Why would we do that?

740. I don't know. This —

741. This competition is clearly an emotional thing for him.

742. I just...

743. It's personal. From when he was a rookie.

744. Oh.

745. Is it Isabel?

746. I-I met her once.

747. I know that they were rookies together

748. before they got married.

749. Yeah. Yeah, and they loved The Roundup.

750. They had an epic competition.

751. Do you really think holding on to this

752. is what he needs?

753. Maybe it's better for him to lose.

754. This contest is the one day a year he feels connected to her.

755. Do you really want to take that away?

756. After some complicated math,

757. the winner is...

758. Bradford and Chen!

759. Which means their drinks are also free.

760. - Hey! - Congrats, man.

761. - Eh.

762. I'll give you a hug. Thank you.

763. Hey.

764. When's the last time you lost something? What?

765. You broke all your dad's records at the Academy.

766. You were the first in your class.

767. When's the last time you lost at a competition?

768. I don't know. I can't remember.

769. Sounds exhausting.

770. Yeah. It is, okay?

771. Look, I just need to prove that I belong here,

772. that I didn't just inherit this spot,

773. that I earned it.

774. Can I give you some advice?

775. Sure.

776. Nobody cares how you got here if you can do the job.

777. So give yourself a break every now and then.

778. - Hey. - Hey.

779. Thanks for looking out for me today.

780. Oh, um, it was — it was my pleasure.

781. I'm glad you won.

782. You were right.

783. You are my favorite.

784. Look, Nell, I-I should tell you,

785. I'm married.

786. Huh. I didn't know that.

787. Yeah. It's complicated.

788. But I-I can still buy you a drink to say thanks.

789. Yeah, sorry.

790. I don't do complicated.

791. But, um, thanks for the book.

792. Yeah.

793. Hey.

794. Hey. Sorry you lost.

795. No. I'm — I'm happy you won.

796. Uh, look, I-I lied, uh, when I said

797. I wasn't bothered by Antonio hitting on you.

798. But it's not my place to be jealous, so —

799. Of what?

800. I said no.

801. I didn't break up with you so I could date somebody else.

802. I did it so I could focus on being a cop.

803. I'm an idiot.

804. Yeah.

805. And I'm sorry.

806. Me too.

807. Uh... I will see you later.

808. Goodbye.

809. So, it turns out she's the mature one.

810. Wow, you really have changed.

811. It's not funny.

812. Give yourself a break, John.

813. When was the last time you were single?

814. Before I was married. No.

815. No, I dated Cindy Carducci all through high school.

816. So... never.

817. Wow. Yeah.

818. You deserve some you time.

819. To be a little immature and figure out who you are

820. now that you're a single guy in L.A.

821. Make mistakes. Fall on your face, right?

822. Be on your own.

823. I don't like falling on my face.

824. Or being on my own.

825. How would you know?

826. To being on my own.

827. Together.
