1. Everything was actually going
fine until we hit the nuns.Copy !req
2. You assaulted a nun?
No, no.Copy !req
3. The suspect I was chasing...Copy !req
4. made a beeline for
a group of nuns.Copy !req
5. A gathering — is it
a flock of nuns?Copy !req
6. I know it's not a murder
of nuns.Copy !req
7. Ow!
Sorry.Copy !req
8. Tell me the truth.
Do I look like a porcupine?Copy !req
9. You don't not look
like a porcupine.Copy !req
10. Officer Nolan, focus.Copy !req
11. We split up.
I came back with a suspect,Copy !req
12. and you came back with
a new hairdo and empty cuffs.Copy !req
13. Yes. As I was saying —
ow — the nuns slowed me down,Copy !req
14. allowing the suspect to get
away, jumping over a fence.Copy !req
15. How many times have I told you
not to hop a fenceCopy !req
16. without knowing
what's on the other side?Copy !req
17. Enough that I shouldn't
have done it?Copy !req
18. Mm-hmm.Copy !req
19. But he was getting away,Copy !req
20. so I just — I just —
I went over.Copy !req
21. And landed headfirst
on a cactus.Copy !req
22. No, no.Copy !req
23. First, I had to get away
from the dog.Copy !req
24. The cactus was over
the second fence.Copy !req
25. This is really
the lowest pointCopy !req
26. in my rookie experience,
isn't it?Copy !req
27. Hey. I'm looking for
Officer John Nolan?Copy !req
28. That's me.Copy !req
29. You've been served.Copy !req
30. Thanks.
Wait. What?Copy !req
31. No. I'd say this
is the lowest point.Copy !req
32. Hey. Heard you're
officially a cop now.Copy !req
33. Got hit with
your first lawsuit.Copy !req
34. Oh, it's ridiculous.Copy !req
35. This guy says I dislocated
his shoulderCopy !req
36. pushing past him in a pursuit.Copy !req
37. I-I don't think
I even touched him.Copy !req
38. And now he wants fifty thousand
to settle.Copy !req
39. Don't take it personally.
Being sued's part of the job.Copy !req
40. It's why we're required to have
liability insurance.Copy !req
41. Union assign
a lawyer yet?Copy !req
42. Yeah.
Some guy named Simon Parks.Copy !req
43. You're lucky.
Guy's a legend.Copy !req
44. Saved my ass
a couple times.Copy !req
45. He's a cranky old S.O.B.,
but he gets the job done.Copy !req
46. You've got nothing
to worry about.Copy !req
47. What's going on?Copy !req
48. IA arrested Jenkins.Copy !req
49. The Robbery Homicide
detective?Copy !req
50. Yeah.Copy !req
51. Why?Copy !req
52. Sgt.
All right. Grab a seat.Copy !req
53. See, look, it's never
a good dayCopy !req
54. when one of your own
gets arrested.Copy !req
55. I'm sure you have questions.Copy !req
56. Commander West from IA
is here to answer.Copy !req
57. Commander?Copy !req
58. Thank you, Sergeant.Copy !req
59. After an extensive
investigation,Copy !req
60. we found clear evidence
that, ten years ago,Copy !req
61. Detective Jenkins
lied on the witness stand.Copy !req
62. Because of his lies,
an innocent womanCopy !req
63. was convicted of
murder in the first.Copy !req
64. She's been in jail
this whole time?Copy !req
65. Yes. Samantha Bennett.
She was released two days ago.Copy !req
66. In addition to charging Jenkins
with perjury,Copy !req
67. we've placed him
on the Brady List.Copy !req
68. Uh, what is the Brady List?Copy !req
69. Uh, it's a record of
law enforcement officersCopy !req
70. who've withheld exculpatory
evidence —Copy !req
71. It's a list of dirty cops.Copy !req
72. IA has reviewed all
of Jenkins' past convictions.Copy !req
73. Of them, three others
were deemed suspect enoughCopy !req
74. to warrant the release
of those felons.Copy !req
75. But you're not sure
those three are innocent.Copy !req
76. No, but their convictions
were overturned.Copy !req
77. When this gets out,
every lawyer in townCopy !req
78. is gonna want to get a Jenkins
conviction overturned.Copy !req
79. That's tomorrow's problem.Copy !req
80. Today, protocol dictatesCopy !req
81. that we make voluntary contact
with these released felons.Copy !req
82. So, Lopez and West, you will
talk to Samantha Bennett.Copy !req
83. Bradford, Chen,
you got Max Kegel,Copy !req
84. who was doing 25 to life
for drug trafficking.Copy !req
85. And, Bishop and Nolan,
take Terry Wright,Copy !req
86. who was in for armed robbery
and attempted murder.Copy !req
87. If you observe anything
actionable,Copy !req
88. send it up to Major Crimes.Copy !req
89. And what if we don't see
anything actionable?Copy !req
90. Leave it alone.Copy !req
91. Observe, report. That's it.Copy !req
92. All right.
Be safe out there.Copy !req
93. Oh. My lawyer's here.Copy !req
94. Hmm. You're lucky to be
getting Simon Parks.Copy !req
95. He's been doing this
for 40 years.Copy !req
96. Can't beat that kind
of experience.Copy !req
97. - Officer Nolan?
- Yes?Copy !req
98. I thought we should meet before
this afternoon's arbitration.Copy !req
99. Go over the game plan, answer
any questions you might have.Copy !req
100. Great.
Uh, who are you?Copy !req
101. Y-Your lawyer.
Simon Parks Junior.Copy !req
102. Oh, I-I thought...Copy !req
103. You thought I was my father.Copy !req
104. Believe me, I know I have
some big shoes to fill,Copy !req
105. but I'm excited to get started
on my first case with you.Copy !req
106. The oldest Boot paired
with the youngest lawyer.Copy !req
107. Sounds like a match
made in heaven.Copy !req
108. Right? Now, as far as your role
in today's mediation goes,Copy !req
109. less is more.Copy !req
110. They will try to get under
your skin,Copy !req
111. so let me do the talking.Copy !req
112. And 2:00 is 2:00,
so don't be late.Copy !req
113. Right.Copy !req
114. Um, let me know if you haveCopy !req
115. any questions, okay?Copy !req
116. Did he say "first case"?Copy !req
117. Mm-hmm.Copy !req
118. So, you and your mother
finally make up,Copy !req
119. and now you're giving me
the cold shoulder?Copy !req
120. No. I, um — things have
just been really crazy.Copy !req
121. Oh, too crazy to respond to
texts? Return phone calls?Copy !req
122. Yeah. I'm sorry.
I've just been focusedCopy !req
123. on the job and the exam.Copy !req
124. What I know is that you're
not ready to have a man-to-manCopy !req
125. about what's going on
with you,Copy !req
126. but I expect you to be
by end of day.Copy !req
127. So come find me
when you're ready.Copy !req
128. What was that about?Copy !req
129. Nothing.Copy !req
130. Hey, um, do you remember,
uh, that felon OscarCopy !req
131. from the prison bus crash?Copy !req
132. Stole a car, tried to
run us over? That Oscar?Copy !req
133. Yeah. Um, when I was
booking him,Copy !req
134. he told me some stories
about my dad.Copy !req
135. What kind of stories?Copy !req
136. That he was my dad's CI
back in the day.Copy !req
137. Said that my dad used to
give him intelCopy !req
138. in exchange for turning
a blind eye.Copy !req
139. Lots of cops do that.Copy !req
140. Yeah, he also said
that my dadCopy !req
141. planted a gun on him.Copy !req
142. Got him sent away for life.Copy !req
143. Let me guess.
Oscar insisted he was innocent.Copy !req
144. No. He said he was guilty,
but no one could prove it.Copy !req
145. So my dad crossed the line.Copy !req
146. I don't believe it.Copy !req
147. Your dad is the straightest
arrow I've ever met —Copy !req
148. besides you.Copy !req
149. No, no. I understand.
Okay. Thank you. Bye.Copy !req
150. Well, the union says
I can't switch lawyers.Copy !req
151. They said, and I quote,
"You get what you get,"Copy !req
152. which is exactly
what I said to my sonCopy !req
153. when he wouldn't eat
his peas.Copy !req
154. He's a lawyer, Officer Nolan,
not a fish.Copy !req
155. You can't just throw him backCopy !req
156. because you think
he's too small.Copy !req
157. Thought I might be seeing police
at some point.Copy !req
158. Oh, we're just
checking in on youCopy !req
159. after your unexpected
recent release.Copy !req
160. What, five years into
a 20-year sentenceCopy !req
161. for attempted murder
and armed robbery?Copy !req
162. It's a miracle. The man upstairs
looking out for me.Copy !req
163. Huh.
Mind telling us what you'veCopy !req
164. been doing since you
got back into town?Copy !req
165. Of course. Moved back in
with my old lady here,Copy !req
166. been eating way too much
fast food.Copy !req
167. Soon as I get the old van
up and running,Copy !req
168. I'm gonna start
looking for work.Copy !req
169. Right.Copy !req
170. You look familiar.
Are you —Copy !req
171. Don't I know you
from somewhere?Copy !req
172. With your rap sheet,
I'm sure we've crossed paths.Copy !req
173. I used to run with this kid
named Dylan.Copy !req
174. I think you know him.Copy !req
175. Doesn't ring a bell.Copy !req
176. You must have me mixed up
with somebody else.Copy !req
177. Okay.Copy !req
178. Do yourself a favor,
Mr. Wright.Copy !req
179. You've been given
a rare second chance.Copy !req
180. Take advantage of it.
Stay out of trouble.Copy !req
181. Yes, ma'am.Copy !req
182. So what do you think?Copy !req
183. That he's gonna be
trouble.Copy !req
184. Why all the extra shifts?Copy !req
185. Why not? I've got hours to
fill when I'm not studying.Copy !req
186. Yeah, but don't you need
time off to recharge?Copy !req
187. What do you do to unwind?Copy !req
188. Work out. And don't
tell me, "If it has 'work'Copy !req
189. in the title,
it can't be relaxing."Copy !req
190. It's true.
You need a hobby,Copy !req
191. something you do for fun.Copy !req
192. No, I don't.Copy !req
193. Mr. Kegel, I hear you've
had a bit of bad luckCopy !req
194. since you got out of prison.Copy !req
195. Tell me about it.Copy !req
196. Eight years of prison food
without as much as the runs,Copy !req
197. and one bad bowl of clams
lands me in the hospital.Copy !req
198. Mr. Kegel, I'm sure that
your recent releaseCopy !req
199. has brought up
some strong emotions.Copy !req
200. Only good ones.Copy !req
201. Hell, I thought I'd never get
to consummate this marriage.Copy !req
202. Alicia and I were,
uh, pen pals.Copy !req
203. She wrote to me in prison for
a year before we got hitched.Copy !req
204. Huh. I've always wondered about
women marrying guys in prison.Copy !req
205. What's the appeal?Copy !req
206. Oh, well, I read about his case,
and I saw his photo,Copy !req
207. and... I just fell in love.Copy !req
208. Look. Now that I'm out,
I plan on keeping my nose cleanCopy !req
209. and my wife
between the sheets.Copy !req
210. - Oh.Copy !req
211. Officers, uh, may I speak
with you, please?Copy !req
212. Sure thing.Copy !req
213. I just got Mr. Kegel's
test results,Copy !req
214. and, unfortunately,
it's not food poisoning.Copy !req
215. What is it?Copy !req
216. Poison poisoning.Copy !req
217. Hydramethylnon,
to be specific.Copy !req
218. It's a chemical used
in roach traps.Copy !req
219. Mrs. Kegel, can you
come out here, please?Copy !req
220. No.Copy !req
221. What's going on?Copy !req
222. Who made the clams?Copy !req
223. My honey bunny. Why?Copy !req
224. 'Cause they were poisoned.Copy !req
225. Guess your wife wasn't
psyched you came home.Copy !req
226. What? Is that true?Copy !req
227. You were never supposed
to get out of jail.Copy !req
228. That was the whole allure.Copy !req
229. Besides, it got my mother off
my back about me being single.Copy !req
230. And then you came home,
and you were all...Copy !req
231. clammy and handsy,
and I just snapped.Copy !req
232. Ma'am, I'm gonna need you
to stand up.Copy !req
233. Turn around.
Hands behind your back.Copy !req
234. Sorry.Copy !req
235. Samantha Bennett
really took it in the teeth.Copy !req
236. Ten years for a crime
she didn't commit.Copy !req
237. Barely a traffic ticket
before she went inside.Copy !req
238. And her file says
she has a kid.Copy !req
239. Child was only a year old
when her mom went to prison.Copy !req
240. Yeah. There's no way
she comes out the same person.Copy !req
241. Prison hardens you.Copy !req
242. Where the hell are they?
Somebody help!Copy !req
243. Where's my family?
Don't hurt me.Copy !req
244. Where are they?Copy !req
245. Drop the bat!Copy !req
246. No. It's not fair!Copy !req
247. Arrest her. She's crazy!Copy !req
248. Look, Samantha, please.
Put down the bat.Copy !req
249. This isn't gonna help you.Copy !req
250. Is that what you want?
You want to help me?Copy !req
251. Like you helped me
the ten years in jail?Copy !req
252. Like you helped to
convince my husbandCopy !req
253. that I was a murderer?Copy !req
254. You know what it feels like
to have the person that you loveCopy !req
255. turn against you,Copy !req
256. believe you're capable
of the worst thing imaginable?Copy !req
257. Ten years, he never once
brought my baby to visit me,Copy !req
258. said she was better off
without me.Copy !req
259. I know you're upset.Copy !req
260. I can only imagine
what you've been through.Copy !req
261. But this man doesn't know
where your family is.Copy !req
262. Do you?Copy !req
263. Of course not!
They moved out years ago.Copy !req
264. I just — I just
want to see my baby.Copy !req
265. I didn't know where else
to go.Copy !req
266. Samantha, you need
to put the bat down.Copy !req
267. Please don't send me back there.
Please don't send me back there.Copy !req
268. Look, I'm sorry.
Please.Copy !req
269. First arbitration.
You nervous?Copy !req
270. A little bit.
What are you gonna do?Copy !req
271. Be a cop.Copy !req
272. Um...
can I ask you something?Copy !req
273. Okay.Copy !req
274. Who's Dylan?Copy !req
275. What?Copy !req
276. The guy that Terry
thought you both knew.Copy !req
277. I got a vibe that you
weren't beingCopy !req
278. completely straight with him.Copy !req
279. You got the vibe?Copy !req
280. What kind of vibe are
you getting right now?Copy !req
281. That I've overstepped.Copy !req
282. I don't know any Dylan.
End of story.Copy !req
283. Good talk.Copy !req
284. Turn to...Copy !req
285. Okay.Copy !req
286. Come on.Copy !req
287. I'm never gonna find them.Copy !req
288. Look, I'm — I'm sure
someone knows where they are.Copy !req
289. She probably hates me anyway.Copy !req
290. Your daughter?Copy !req
291. I missed her whole life.Copy !req
292. The best I can hope is that
Tom told her I was dead.Copy !req
293. Otherwise, I'm just
mom the murderer.Copy !req
294. Yeah, but you're
innocent, okay?Copy !req
295. And that will be all over
the newsCopy !req
296. now that Jenkins
was arrested.Copy !req
297. So is the fact that
I'm back in jail.Copy !req
298. No, Tom is right.Copy !req
299. She's better off without me.Copy !req
300. I'm no good to anybody now.Copy !req
301. Don't say that.Copy !req
302. This isn't right.Copy !req
303. No, but our hands
are tied.Copy !req
304. We have to be able to do
something to help her.Copy !req
305. This isn't just about her,
is it?Copy !req
306. Yeah.
[ Buzzer, door opens ]Copy !req
307. All right,
and maybe my dad, too.Copy !req
308. A dirty cop
ruined her life.Copy !req
309. Look,
let me think on Samantha,Copy !req
310. see if I can figure
something out.Copy !req
311. But you need to get your head
straight about your dad.Copy !req
312. Either go talk to him
or let it go.Copy !req
313. What you can't do is let
the doubt eat away at you.Copy !req
314. Hey.
Hey.Copy !req
315. How's it going
with Jenkins?Copy !req
316. Usual song and dance.Copy !req
317. He's crying conspiracy,
coercion,Copy !req
318. trying to muddy the waters.Copy !req
319. I've been meaning to ask you,
how's my boy doing?Copy !req
320. Well, you know.
Standing tall some days,Copy !req
321. falling on his face others,
like all rookies before him.Copy !req
322. Like us back in the day.Copy !req
323. Yeah, but he's been acting
a little strangeCopy !req
324. the last few weeks.
Standoffish.Copy !req
325. Something I should know?Copy !req
326. You'd have to ask him.Copy !req
327. Tell me about his T.O.Copy !req
328. Officer Lopez?Copy !req
329. Yeah.Copy !req
330. She's a good cop.Copy !req
331. On paper, sure, but I'm asking
about her instincts,Copy !req
332. her leadership skills,
her ability to teach my sonCopy !req
333. things he can't learn
from his rook book.Copy !req
334. Percy, I'm not quite sure
how to reply to that.Copy !req
335. See, this is specifically why
I asked you to assignCopy !req
336. Officer Bradford
to my son, not Lopez.Copy !req
337. He's a known entity,
a cop's cop.Copy !req
338. With her, I'm wondering,Copy !req
339. does she truly have
what Jackson needs?Copy !req
340. Are you asking as head
of Internal AffairsCopy !req
341. or a nervous father
overstepping his bounds?Copy !req
342. Listen.
I know you outrank me,Copy !req
343. but I'm gonna tell you
exactly what I saidCopy !req
344. when Jackson was assigned
here — no special favors.Copy !req
345. Wa— Wade. I'm not asking
for special favors —Copy !req
346. That includes keeping
tabs on him.Copy !req
347. Is that understood,
Commander?Copy !req
348. It is, Sergeant.Copy !req
349. Excuse me.Copy !req
350. I was just about
to call you.Copy !req
351. Let me guess.
You can't make dinner?Copy !req
352. Sorry. One of my clients
was put away by that
Brady Cop — Jenkins.Copy !req
353. I've got to go back through
the case,Copy !req
354. see if anything
shakes loose.Copy !req
355. Today must be like Christmas
morning for defense attorneys.Copy !req
356. Yeah, except instead
of presents,Copy !req
357. we have boxes of discovery
to open.Copy !req
358. Um...Copy !req
359. Oh.
Listen. Hey.Copy !req
360. Yeah. Hi.Copy !req
361. I, uh —
Mm-hmm?Copy !req
362. I have to go see
a client on Saturday,
but I'll be back Sunday.Copy !req
363. I'm on duty Sunday.Copy !req
364. Right. Well,
uh, nice to see you.Copy !req
365. Yeah.Copy !req
366. How are you doing?
Good? Yep.
Mm.Copy !req
367. So, I heard you tried
to get me replaced.Copy !req
368. Okay. Yes, I did. But you said
this was your very first case.Copy !req
369. You have to understand that
would make me a little nervous.Copy !req
370. They handed you a gun on your
first day, didn't they?Copy !req
371. Yes. And that made me
a little nervous, too.Copy !req
372. Look, I grew up
in a courtroom.Copy !req
373. I learned every trick
my dad knows.Copy !req
374. Passed the Bar first time out
with a near-perfect score.Copy !req
375. So trust me when I say,
I got this.Copy !req
376. I need you focused on you,Copy !req
377. staying calm,
attentive, quiet.Copy !req
378. Can you do that?Copy !req
379. Absolutely.Copy !req
380. Great.
Yeah.Copy !req
381. But just so you know,
I got a couple of yearsCopy !req
382. of Pre-Law under my belt.Copy !req
383. I've gone to small claims court
a number of timesCopy !req
384. to get paid for jobs,
so if you need anything —Copy !req
385. I appreciate that,
but lawyering is my job.Copy !req
386. Oh, absolutely.
100 percent.Copy !req
387. But I've got your back
if you need it.Copy !req
388. I won't.
Right.Copy !req
389. But if you do...Copy !req
390. I won't.Copy !req
391. You're late.Copy !req
392. Apologies, Your Honor.Copy !req
393. Sorry. My fault.
I was on patrol.Copy !req
394. And I was getting my prostate
squared away.Copy !req
395. Still got here on time.Copy !req
396. Yes, sir.
Sorry again.Copy !req
397. Really? A neck brace?
This happened a month ago.Copy !req
398. Officer Nolan, please don't
interact with the plaintiff.Copy !req
399. It's called emotional whiplash.Copy !req
400. My doctor says it's from
having to relive the incidentCopy !req
401. over and over again
the past few days.Copy !req
402. That's not a real thing.Copy !req
403. We need to get a medical expert
in here to swear under oath —Copy !req
404. What did I say about
letting me do my job?Copy !req
405. Hey, counsel — can we get
this circus started?Copy !req
406. Yes, sir. Sorry.
Simon Parks for the defendant.Copy !req
407. Jephson Green for the plaintiff,
Your Honor.Copy !req
408. It seems you did a little
reckless running on the job,Copy !req
409. Officer Nolan.Copy !req
410. Your Honor, I was in pursuit
of a wanted felon —Copy !req
411. Did that sound like
a question?Copy !req
412. You think this is gonna
be easy, don't ya?Copy !req
413. Just waltz in here,Copy !req
414. charm the pants off of me
with your uniformCopy !req
415. and your dimples.Copy !req
416. No, sir.Copy !req
417. I have the power...Copy !req
418. to give this man your pension.Copy !req
419. Uh, Your Honor, if I may,Copy !req
420. we have Officer Nolan's
body cam footage,Copy !req
421. if you'll allow us
to play it.Copy !req
422. Sure. Sounds fun.Copy !req
423. Great.Copy !req
424. Oof.Copy !req
425. There.Copy !req
426. Can we just say case closed?
Seriously —Copy !req
427. Should we switch seats?Copy !req
428. Do you want to do my job? Would
you let me handle this, please?Copy !req
429. All right.Copy !req
430. This is the fourth time
that Mr. LynchCopy !req
431. has brought suit against
a police officer.Copy !req
432. Prior history, Your Honor,
is just that — history.Copy !req
433. It has no bearing on the fact
that Officer NolanCopy !req
434. assaulted my client, causing him
lasting physical injury.Copy !req
435. And only Your Honor has
the power to make this right.Copy !req
436. Well said.Copy !req
437. Forget it.Copy !req
438. Dylan, wait.
We need to talk.Copy !req
439. Oh, do we, now?
After all these years,Copy !req
440. that's how you want
to play this.Copy !req
441. Please?Copy !req
442. Look, one of your former
running buddiesCopy !req
443. just got out of Folsom.
Terry Wright.Copy !req
444. Have you heard from him?Copy !req
445. Seriously, Talia?Copy !req
446. You came all the way down here
to ask me about some guyCopy !req
447. from the neighborhood
I knew 15 years ago.Copy !req
448. Cut the crap. You and Terry
got a lot tighter after I left.Copy !req
449. You think I didn't
know that?Copy !req
450. Oh, I see.Copy !req
451. So you too good
to stay in touch,Copy !req
452. but you can keep tabs on me,
stay all up in my business.Copy !req
453. I am trying to
look out for you.Copy !req
454. You're suspected of pulling
at least five jobs with Terry.Copy !req
455. You're lucky you only
got caught once.Copy !req
456. You got a lot of nerve
calling me "lucky."Copy !req
457. Hey, I never asked to be
taken to another family.Copy !req
458. Yeah, but you sure as hellCopy !req
459. couldn't wait
to get up out of there.Copy !req
460. And can you blame me?Copy !req
461. That home was a nightmare.Copy !req
462. I would've taken you with me
if I could have.Copy !req
463. Yeah, well, it's cool.Copy !req
464. Yeah, I took care of myself.Copy !req
465. Got clean, got straight.Copy !req
466. Been working a warehouse job
for about a year now.Copy !req
467. So I got no need for you,Copy !req
468. and I ain't got no need
for Terry.Copy !req
469. I got to go to work.Copy !req
470. Dylan, I...Copy !req
471. I ju—
I — I'm sorry.Copy !req
472. I'm sorry I haven't
been around.Copy !req
473. I had to step away
when I joined the police.Copy !req
474. Yeah, you were embarrassed.
I get it.Copy !req
475. No!Copy !req
476. Because a family connection
to a criminalCopy !req
477. would have kept me
off the force.Copy !req
478. And if they find out now
that I liedCopy !req
479. and I left you
off of my personal history,Copy !req
480. I could lose my job.Copy !req
481. Well, no worries.
I don't know you anyway.Copy !req
482. Your Honor, I'd like to submit
some crucial evidenceCopy !req
483. we've recently received.Copy !req
484. Another video
of the assault.Copy !req
485. Your Honor, any evidenceCopy !req
486. should have been provided
during discovery.Copy !req
487. Whoa!
Things just got real.Copy !req
488. This video just came
to my attention,Copy !req
489. and after viewing it,
you'll understand whyCopy !req
490. we've upped our financial demand
to $50,000.Copy !req
491. You can go ahead and up it
to $100 million. I don't care.Copy !req
492. I'm not paying it because
I didn't do anything wrong.Copy !req
493. No, no. Of course you didn't.
No cop ever does anything wrong.Copy !req
494. Will the plaintiff
please refrain fromCopy !req
495. addressing
my client directly?Copy !req
496. Enough.
I love a dramatic turn.Copy !req
497. Let's watch.Copy !req
498. Now, this is all about
perspective,Copy !req
499. and from this perspective,
you can clearly seeCopy !req
500. Officer Nolan knock
my client to the ground.Copy !req
501. Okay. Wait. It's — uh,
clearly from this angle,Copy !req
502. it looks egregious,
but —Copy !req
503. Egregious? I'd say it looks
like you deserve a flagCopy !req
504. for roughing the pedestrian.Copy !req
505. Your Honor, can we take
a brief recess?Copy !req
506. Make it quick.Copy !req
507. This is crazy.
I didn't do anything wrong.Copy !req
508. It doesn't matter. We've got
an unpredictable judge,Copy !req
509. and that video just made
our case more difficult,Copy !req
510. so I really need you to sit back
and let me do my job. Got it?Copy !req
511. Got it.Copy !req
512. Come on.Copy !req
513. Go ahead.
Have a seat on the bench.Copy !req
514. Don't I get a lawyer?Copy !req
515. Did you want a lawyer?Copy !req
516. Yeah.
But you took all my money.Copy !req
517. Yeah, it was stolen money.Copy !req
518. You know, it doesn't matter,Copy !req
519. because your lawyer
would be pro bono.Copy !req
520. Free.Copy !req
521. I've got just the guy
for you.Copy !req
522. - Mr. Camel.
- It's just "Camel."Copy !req
523. You know, like Beyoncé
or Post Malone.Copy !req
524. All right.
Let's start somewhere simple.Copy !req
525. Why is there marker
on your face?Copy !req
526. So Petey wouldn't know
it was me.Copy !req
527. That's Peter DiAmato,Copy !req
528. the cashier at the convenience
store you robbed.Copy !req
529. Robbery? Wait a minute.Copy !req
530. My client was wielding
a squirt gun —Copy !req
531. hardly qualifies as
a "threat of force."Copy !req
532. It looked real.Copy !req
533. It — It had Hawaiian Punch
in it,Copy !req
534. which he drank repeatedly
during the alleged incident.Copy !req
535. And the theft of $20
from the register?Copy !req
536. Petey owed me that money.Copy !req
537. Sounds like a harmless prank,Copy !req
538. misunderstanding
between friends.Copy !req
539. Prank, huh?Copy !req
540. Well, comedy is subjective.Copy !req
541. Who keeps rubbing my foot?Copy !req
542. All right.
Say I let him walk.Copy !req
543. What do I get?Copy !req
544. I've got 15 minutes.Copy !req
545. Don't worry.
I'm good under pressure.Copy !req
546. Oh, good.Copy !req
547. Bishop?Copy !req
548. Why are you digging into known
associates of Terry Wright?Copy !req
549. When we stopped by for
the field interview,Copy !req
550. I got a strong sense
that he's up to something.Copy !req
551. See, look. This station's
under a microscope.Copy !req
552. The last thing I need
is one of my officersCopy !req
553. getting slapped with
a harassment complaint.Copy !req
554. If you have something real,
great.Copy !req
555. Send it to Metro.Copy !req
556. Otherwise, get back
on the street.Copy !req
557. Yes, sir.Copy !req
558. 7-Adam-15,
assault in progress.Copy !req
559. Rustic Ranch Paintball.Copy !req
560. Hey, Officer, over here.
Over here.Copy !req
561. He's totally
lost his mind.Copy !req
562. Who?
Jimmy.Copy !req
563. He lives for paintball,Copy !req
564. but he takes it
way too seriously.Copy !req
565. Carl snuck up behind him
and scored,Copy !req
566. and then Jimmy freaked out
and started attacking —Copy !req
567. Okay. Slow down.
Who's Jimmy? Who's Carl?Copy !req
568. That's Carl.Copy !req
569. Whoa. Um...
did you call an ambulance?Copy !req
570. Yeah, yeah.
They're on the way.Copy !req
571. Okay.
Keep pressure on it.Copy !req
572. Whatever you do,
don't pull it out.Copy !req
573. Where's this other guy,
Jimmy?Copy !req
574. Well, he's out there
playing somewhere.Copy !req
575. How can we ID him?Copy !req
576. Uh, he's about 6' tall,Copy !req
577. he's got a camo jacket,
and a skeleton face guard.Copy !req
578. All right. You stay here
and wait for the ambulance.Copy !req
579. It's scary what happens when
a man focuses on one thing only.Copy !req
580. It's a cautionary tale,
really.Copy !req
581. Shut it, Boot.Copy !req
582. Yes, sir.Copy !req
583. All the new video does is show
us why magic tricks work.Copy !req
584. The magician doesn't really
saw the woman in half,Copy !req
585. and Officer Nolan didn't really
knock Mr. Lynch to the ground.Copy !req
586. So the only
reasonable outcome hereCopy !req
587. is to dismiss this case
with prejudice,Copy !req
588. citing Salsbury, Ritter,
and Bennett v. Long Beach.Copy !req
589. Well put, young man.Copy !req
590. This —
This isn't right.Copy !req
591. My pain is real.Copy !req
592. Time after time,
police have gotten awayCopy !req
593. with their crimes against me.Copy !req
594. My dog was run over
in a high-speed chase,Copy !req
595. and my door was kicked inCopy !req
596. by cops serving a warrant
on the wrong address.Copy !req
597. And not one officer has had
the decency to just say,Copy !req
598. "I'm sorry."Copy !req
599. Is this why you're suing me?Copy !req
600. Because no one's ever
apologized to you?Copy !req
601. Officer Nolan...
Let me be the first.Copy !req
602. I'm sorry that you got hurt.
Off—Copy !req
603. Well, Your Honor,
in light of the defendant'sCopy !req
604. admission of guilt...
What?Copy !req
605. the plaintiff ups our
financial demand to $100,000.Copy !req
606. Wait.
Your Honor,Copy !req
607. we need
a 15-minute recess.Copy !req
608. Yeah, you do.Copy !req
609. Man, this would be
a whole lot easierCopy !req
610. if everyone
wasn't wearing camo.Copy !req
611. This job isn't about
easy, Boot.Copy !req
612. Have you ever done this?
Played paintball?Copy !req
613. No. It's amateur hour.Copy !req
614. I'd straight up
murder these guys.Copy !req
615. Okay.Copy !req
616. That's him, that's him!Copy !req
617. Exhibit A.Copy !req
618. She thinks approaching
from the rearCopy !req
619. gives her a tactical advantage.Copy !req
620. But in reality, had she
taken the superior positionCopy !req
621. of the high ground
to the north...Copy !req
622. Oh!Copy !req
623. that wouldn't
have happened.Copy !req
624. - Oh.Copy !req
625. But we know Jimmy's
not your average player.Copy !req
626. This game is his life.
So where would he go?Copy !req
627. Hmm. Somewhere with
a protected view of the course?Copy !req
628. Huh. High ground.Copy !req
629. LAPD!Copy !req
630. Anyone else fires,
they're going to jail.Copy !req
631. Okay. Sorry.
Guys, guns down.Copy !req
632. Guy in the skeleton mask?Copy !req
633. Behind you!Copy !req
634. Jimmy!Copy !req
635. Commander.Copy !req
636. About before.Copy !req
637. I was out of line.Copy !req
638. It's hard having a cop
for a son,Copy !req
639. especially when you know
what this job can do to him.Copy !req
640. All good.
Water under the bridge.Copy !req
641. Good.Copy !req
642. Have a good day.Copy !req
643. Something else?Copy !req
644. You didn't hear this
from me, okay?Copy !req
645. Make sure they can bounce
a quarter off your bunk.Copy !req
646. You hear me?Copy !req
647. What do you mean by that?Copy !req
648. Detective Jenkins,
this Brady List business —Copy !req
649. it isn't going away
anytime soon.Copy !req
650. The police commission
is stepping in.Copy !req
651. We're talking review boards
and independent audits.Copy !req
652. It could get ugly, Wade,
so double-check your officers.Copy !req
653. Leave nothing to chance.Copy !req
654. Make sure nothing can
blow back on you.Copy !req
655. Thanks for the heads-up.Copy !req
656. Come on, Dylan.
Prove me wrong.Copy !req
657. You done?Copy !req
658. No.
Just wanted to let you knowCopy !req
659. there's no rush
getting back here.Copy !req
660. Thanks for the update.Copy !req
661. What are you up to?Copy !req
662. Getting my nails done.Copy !req
663. That's a joke, right?Copy !req
664. Look, did you actually
want somethingCopy !req
665. or you just called
to say hi?Copy !req
666. I think I'm gonna lose.Copy !req
667. It doesn't mean
you did anything wrong.Copy !req
668. Crap.
Nolan, I got to go.Copy !req
669. What's going on?
You okay?Copy !req
670. Everything's fine.Copy !req
671. Good luck with
your arbitration.Copy !req
672. These two stay.Copy !req
673. This one goes.Copy !req
674. You, uh, got a minute?Copy !req
675. Sure.Copy !req
676. You ready to tell me
what's going on?Copy !req
677. Come on.Copy !req
678. You can talk to me.
Always.Copy !req
679. Lopez and I, um...Copy !req
680. we arrested a man named
Oscar Hutchinson.Copy !req
681. He told me stories
about you and him.Copy !req
682. And, um...Copy !req
683. And what?Copy !req
684. He said you were dirty.Copy !req
685. And you believe the word
of a convicted felon,Copy !req
686. a murderer,
over your own father?Copy !req
687. No. No. I, um — I just —
I-I pulled the file.Copy !req
688. You did what?Copy !req
689. Boy, have you lost
your damn mind?Copy !req
690. I'm not a boy.
I'm a police officer —Copy !req
691. Well, not for long, if you
don't get your head straight.Copy !req
692. Remember, you're not just
accusing your father here,Copy !req
693. you're accusing a superior.Copy !req
694. Yes, sir.Copy !req
695. Oscar Hutchinson
is a habitual liarCopy !req
696. with a history
of substance abuse,Copy !req
697. not to mention
a personal grudge against me.Copy !req
698. You think there's a court
in this countryCopy !req
699. that would find
his testimony credible?Copy !req
700. Look, I don't give a damn
if it would stand up in court.Copy !req
701. I want to know if it's true.Copy !req
702. Of course not!Copy !req
703. And today of all days,
you throw this in my face?Copy !req
704. Get out of my sight.Copy !req
705. Control, 7-Adam-15.Copy !req
706. I need a premise history
on 11215 South 73rd Street.Copy !req
707. Copy. Stand by.Copy !req
708. Okay. Lots of 11-3
at that address.Copy !req
709. I'm getting a hazard code,
as well.Copy !req
710. 7-Adam-15, show me
on a felony ped stopCopy !req
711. in the alley beside
the South 73rd address.Copy !req
712. I think they're about
to rob a stash house.Copy !req
713. Two at gunpoint.
Send backup.Copy !req
714. Police!Copy !req
715. Drop the weapons!Copy !req
716. Three steps forward.Copy !req
717. On your knees.Copy !req
718. I told you not to run
with this fool.Copy !req
719. I knew you looked familiar.Copy !req
720. Talia Bishop,
the prodigal sister.Copy !req
721. And you led her right here.Copy !req
722. Thought I taught you better.Copy !req
723. You should have taken
that second chance, Terry.Copy !req
724. Now you're going
back to prison.Copy !req
725. I don't think so.Copy !req
726. Holster your weapon.Copy !req
727. Take off the belt.
Get it from her.Copy !req
728. You shouldn't have
followed me here.Copy !req
729. I should have just let you rob
a stash house and get killed?Copy !req
730. Yo. What do you want
to do with her?Copy !req
731. She probably already
called for backup.Copy !req
732. We better rob
this place fast.Copy !req
733. Stick her in the van.
Make sure she's secure.Copy !req
734. Let's go.Copy !req
735. Dylan, you don't have to
do this. Don't do this.Copy !req
736. Don't do this.
Dylan, it's not too late!Copy !req
737. Dylan!Copy !req
738. Go, go, go, go, go!Copy !req
739. Where's Maurice?Copy !req
740. Dead. Hold on.Copy !req
741. He needs to go
to a hospital.Copy !req
742. Yeah, that's not happening.Copy !req
743. Yeah, I'm —
I'm hit pretty bad, man.Copy !req
744. He could bleed out.
If you care about him,Copy !req
745. take him to the hospital.
You can just dump him out.Copy !req
746. We're not going to any damn
hospital. Shut the hell up.Copy !req
747. However I rule,
it's clear to meCopy !req
748. that Officer Nolan has a lot to
learn about the job of policing.Copy !req
749. I have to take this.Copy !req
750. Like hell you do. You —Copy !req
751. Yes, sir?Copy !req
752. Bishop's missing.
She called for backup.Copy !req
753. When units arrived,Copy !req
754. they found her car
outside a stash house,Copy !req
755. bodies inside.Copy !req
756. Officer,
hang up that phone!Copy !req
757. Have you heard from her?Copy !req
758. No.
Get back here.Copy !req
759. Yes, sir. On my way.Copy !req
760. Officer Nolan,
we're not done here.Copy !req
761. I am.
Do whatever you need to do.Copy !req
762. Make it $1,000, $100,000,
$100 million.Copy !req
763. I don't care.
My T.O.'s in trouble.Copy !req
764. Dylan,
grab that sweatshirt.Copy !req
765. Tie it around your arm —
above the wound.Copy !req
766. You got
to stop the bleeding.Copy !req
767. What's the plan?Copy !req
768. I'm working on it.Copy !req
769. Man, Maurice is dead.Copy !req
770. We're riding around this van
with a kidnapped cop.Copy !req
771. What kind of plan
fixes this?Copy !req
772. One that includes
killing me.Copy !req
773. Shut up!Copy !req
774. He's not gonna hurt you.Copy !req
775. Where do you think
we're driving to?Copy !req
776. Quiet place where
he can execute a cop.Copy !req
777. Isn't that right, Terry?Copy !req
778. We're not killing her.Copy !req
779. Just relax, Dylan.
I know what to do.Copy !req
780. Everything's gonna be fine.Copy !req
781. Uncuff her from the van.Copy !req
782. Look, whatever happens next,
Dylan, I am sorry.Copy !req
783. Even though I couldn't
keep you in my life,Copy !req
784. I still kept my eye on you.Copy !req
785. I saw you turn
your life around.Copy !req
786. I know I let you down.Copy !req
787. But this — this is —
this isn't you.Copy !req
788. You are so much better
than this thug.Copy !req
789. Don't listen to her.Copy !req
790. Who taught you
how to be a man,Copy !req
791. how to hustle, how to
survive on these streets?Copy !req
792. I'm the closest thing to
family you've ever had.Copy !req
793. She doesn't deserve tears.Copy !req
794. Turn around.
You shouldn't have to see this.Copy !req
795. No. Come on. Let's —
Let's just leave her.Copy !req
796. Let's just get the hell
out of here.Copy !req
797. We can't do that.
Just turn around.Copy !req
798. Dylan, I love you.Copy !req
799. I'm sorry!Copy !req
800. Get on your knees.Copy !req
801. Man, I'm not
getting on my knees.Copy !req
802. You gonna shoot me,Copy !req
803. you gonna look me in my face
when you do it.Copy !req
804. Dylan, Dylan,
look at me.Copy !req
805. Breathe. Breathe.
It's okay.Copy !req
806. Come uncuff me.Copy !req
807. Come on. Uncuff me.Copy !req
808. What did I do?Copy !req
809. You saved me.Copy !req
810. What are you doing?Copy !req
811. I'm sorry,
but I gotta take you in.Copy !req
812. I just saved your life.
Save mine.Copy !req
813. That's what I'm
trying to do!Copy !req
814. Look, I'll go to Mexico.Copy !req
815. I'll be gone by the morning.Copy !req
816. I swear, you'll never
hear from me again!Copy !req
817. You know I can't.Copy !req
818. I can — I can keep
your secret.Copy !req
819. Yeah, w-with Terry dead,
no one else knows.Copy !req
820. It's perfect —
That doesn't matter anymore.Copy !req
821. Control,
this is Officer Bishop.Copy !req
822. I'm in Baldwin Hills

823. I have one in custody,
one deceased.Copy !req
824. Please send additional units,
an RA, and a supervisor.Copy !req
825. Hey.
I was looking for you.Copy !req
826. You okay?Copy !req
827. I — yeah.Copy !req
828. Why didn't you tell me
you were into something?Copy !req
829. I would have
been there for you.Copy !req
830. You had your own life
to deal with.Copy !req
831. Yeah, well, I hate
to break it to you,Copy !req
832. but you're a pretty big
part of that these days.Copy !req
833. Lucky you.Copy !req
834. Yes. I am lucky.Copy !req
835. Look, I don't know what's
going on with you,Copy !req
836. and I don't know who this
Dylan guy you arrested is.Copy !req
837. All I know is there's
got to be a reasonCopy !req
838. you're playing it
close to the vest.Copy !req
839. And I respect that.Copy !req
840. But take it from a guy
who bottled things upCopy !req
841. for too many years.Copy !req
842. It helps to talk about it.Copy !req
843. You're right.Copy !req
844. I do need to talk.Copy !req
845. But not to you.Copy !req
846. Come in.Copy !req
847. Sir, I have something
to tell you.Copy !req
848. What is it?Copy !req
849. Dylan Scott is my brother.Copy !req
850. Come again?Copy !req
851. We spent a year together
in the same foster home,Copy !req
852. a year that felt like
a lifetime.Copy !req
853. I wouldn't have made it
one day without him.Copy !req
854. Bishop. Where are you
going with this?Copy !req
855. I left him off of my P.H.Q.
when I applied to the academyCopy !req
856. because of his
criminal record.Copy !req
857. I pretended like
he didn't exist,Copy !req
858. and that was a mistake.Copy !req
859. It doesn't matter we only
spent a year together.Copy !req
860. He's family.Copy !req
861. If this was any other day,Copy !req
862. I might have the energy
to chew you outCopy !req
863. or figure out how to help.Copy !req
864. But today —
today, my hands are tied.Copy !req
865. So I have to file
a memorandum with the Chief,Copy !req
866. informing him that one
of my best officersCopy !req
867. perjured herself on
an official document,Copy !req
868. likely torpedoing
her career.Copy !req
869. You're dismissed.Copy !req
870. We need to talk.Copy !req
871. I'm off-duty, Commander.
Maybe another time.Copy !req
872. Jackson, please.Copy !req
873. So I've been doing a lot
of apologizing today.Copy !req
874. I'm not used to that.Copy !req
875. I'm not really
good at it either.Copy !req
876. Was that your way
of saying sorry?Copy !req
877. No, no.Copy !req
878. This is. I'm sorry.Copy !req
879. Why?Copy !req
880. You swore that
you weren't dirty.Copy !req
881. And I wasn't.Copy !req
882. Look,
you have to understand,Copy !req
883. when I was coming up
in the force,Copy !req
884. it was a different time.Copy !req
885. Two weeks to match fingerprints,
if you were lucky.Copy !req
886. And forget about
DNA evidence.Copy !req
887. We cut corners sometimes
because we had to.Copy !req
888. My whole life, you drilled me
to follow every single ruleCopy !req
889. to the letter.Copy !req
890. And now it's, "Oh, yeah,Copy !req
891. we cut corners
'cause we had to."Copy !req
892. Who the hell do you
think you are?Copy !req
893. Your father.Copy !req
894. Not the one that
I thought you were.Copy !req
895. Look, I don't know what
Oscar told youCopy !req
896. or what you think
I might have done,Copy !req
897. but I swear to you,
I wasn't dirty.Copy !req
898. I knew plenty who were,
but that wasn't me.Copy !req
899. I never falsified evidence.
Never took money.Copy !req
900. Never flaked a guy
to make a collar.Copy !req
901. You have to believe me.Copy !req
902. No, Dad. I don't.Copy !req
903. Jackson, please.Copy !req
904. All I ever wanted was for you
to be better than I was.Copy !req
905. Hey.Copy !req
906. Are you okay?Copy !req
907. Not really.Copy !req
908. I'm sorry, but maybe
this will cheer you up.Copy !req
909. Come on.Copy !req
910. I spoke to the building super
about Samantha,Copy !req
911. told him everything
she'd gone through.Copy !req
912. So he agreed to withdraw
his complaint.Copy !req
913. She's free to go.Copy !req
914. That's great.Copy !req
915. There's more.Copy !req
916. Mrs. Bennett?Copy !req
917. Can we get a minute?Copy !req
918. Yeah.
Thanks.Copy !req
919. I found your husband.Copy !req
920. I explained to him
what happened,Copy !req
921. that you were innocent.Copy !req
922. It was a lot to process.Copy !req
923. Before you get your hopes up,Copy !req
924. he doesn't want you
to know where heCopy !req
925. or your daughter are
just yet.Copy !req
926. But I gave him this number,Copy !req
927. and I think he'll call once he
wraps his head around the truth.Copy !req
928. Thank you.
Thank you.Copy !req
929. You're welcome.Copy !req
930. So what did they end up at?
$100,000?Copy !req
931. Nope.Copy !req
932. Back down to $50,000?Copy !req
933. No.
The judge tossed it.Copy !req
934. What? How?Copy !req
935. Oh, when you ran
out of there,Copy !req
936. only concerned with
your T.O.'s safety,Copy !req
937. I was able to use it
as an exampleCopy !req
938. of your selfless dedication
to the job.Copy !req
939. The judge was impressed.Copy !req
940. Wow!
Nicely done.Copy !req
941. Hey, thanks. I told you
I know what I'm doing.Copy !req
942. Yeah, you did.Copy !req
943. And I, for one, should
know better than to judgeCopy !req
944. someone on their age
or their experience.Copy !req
945. So I'm sorry.Copy !req
946. And... thank you very much.Copy !req
947. Hey, you know this lawsuit
wasn't really about you, right?Copy !req
948. It was about the uniform.Copy !req
949. Get used to it.Copy !req
950. Hey, I'm a lawyer.Copy !req
951. Everybody hates us, right?Copy !req
952. No. No.Copy !req
953. You ready, Boot?
Remember. No mercy.Copy !req
954. Got it.Copy !req
955. You're having fun,
aren't you?Copy !req
956. No.Copy !req
957. On me.Copy !req
958. Go!Copy !req
959. Incoming!Copy !req
