399. get back here
without anyone noticing?Copy !req

427. Have a seat, and the triage
nurse will call you back soon.Copy !req
428. - Thank you.
- Hello.Copy !req
429. Uh, my—my son,
he needs help, his eye.Copy !req
430. Let me ask you
about your eyes.Copy !req
431. Do you see the line
you just cut?Copy !req
432. What? No, please.
It's an emergency.Copy !req
433. You think everybody's
waiting for manicures?Copy !req
434. He caught a line drive
to the eye.Copy !req
435. We're so sorry, ma'am.Copy !req
436. We thought this was
the line for pediatrics.Copy !req
437. I'm 16.Copy !req
438. I'm doing this 'cause you're
a minor and you have manners.Copy !req
439. Thank you so much.Copy !req
440. Name and date of birth?Copy !req
441. Everett Young.
December 7, 2008.Copy !req
442. I'll get your insurance
information from your father.Copy !req
443. Take a seat.
- What? No, we're not waiting.Copy !req
444. Show her. Show her.Copy !req
445. OK, then.Copy !req
446. Come around
to the double doors.Copy !req
447. - Tenecteplase on deck?
- All set.Copy !req
448. She's 62 kilos, 0.25 per kilo
is 15.5 milligrams.Copy !req
449. - Push over 10 seconds.
- What's the status?Copy !req
450. Diffusion flare
mismatch meansCopy !req
451. she's less than
four hours into it.Copy !req
452. - Getting TNK now.
- Sounds great.Copy !req
453. Would you mind hanging
down here for a bit?Copy !req
454. I could use
your expertise on this.Copy !req
455. Can't believe
you have the nerve to ask.Copy !req
456. Good one.
OK, keep me posted.Copy !req
457. 50 on board.Copy !req
458. Anything I can do
to help in here?Copy !req
459. No, I'm pretty good.Copy !req
460. How are you doing?Copy !req
461. Not as good
as you, apparently.Copy !req
462. Push another 25.Copy !req
463. Wet the splints now, please.Copy !req
464. You can help lift his leg
for the splint.Copy !req
465. And we're at 75, mm-hmm.Copy !req
466. When we lift his leg,
it's really gonna hurt him,Copy !req
467. but he won't remember—
benefits of propofol.Copy !req
468. Pulse ox 99,
good end tidal CO2.Copy !req
469. Mm-hmm.Copy !req
470. Hey, Chad?Copy !req
471. Chad.Copy !req
472. Ow.Copy !req
473. Perfect.Copy !req
474. Let's do this.Copy !req
475. Ow.Copy !req
476. I feel sad.Copy !req
477. Uh, don't worry.Copy !req
478. We'll have you fixed up
good as new.Copy !req
479. What does he have
that I don't have?Copy !req
480. I mean, sure, he's younger.Copy !req
481. And that hair.Copy !req
482. Who?Copy !req
483. Mateo.Copy !req
484. Oh.Copy !req
485. What's his story anyway?Copy !req
486. Is she having sex with him?Copy !req
487. Well, if she isn't,
she probably should.Copy !req
488. Stop.Copy !req
489. Who do we have the pleasure
of meeting this afternoon?Copy !req
490. Everett Young, 16, took
a line drive to the left eye.Copy !req
491. Tachy at 118.
- Oof.Copy !req
492. 4 of morphine, 4 of Zofran.Copy !req
493. Excuse me.Copy !req
494. It was easily
100 miles per hour.Copy !req
495. Oof.
Did you pass out?Copy !req
496. - Uh, no, ma'am.
- OK.Copy !req
497. Baseball is a fun activity.
You any good?Copy !req
498. Any good?Copy !req
499. He's got a 95 mile an hour
fastball, a 12-6 slider,Copy !req
500. a 0.94 ERA,
and he's a southpaw.Copy !req
501. What's that?Copy !req
502. That's a future Cy Young.Copy !req
503. I don't know
what that is either.Copy !req
504. Ms. Javadi is
a student doctor.Copy !req
505. She's a bit of a prodigy
herself, actually.Copy !req
506. Do you mind if she helps out?Copy !req
507. - No, ma'am.
- OK.Copy !req
508. Tell me how many fingers
I'm holding up.Copy !req
509. Um—ah, I can't tell.Copy !req
510. Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.Copy !req
511. OK, tell me
when the light turns on.Copy !req
512. Now?Copy !req
513. - Light perception only.
- Mm-hmm.Copy !req
514. Do you want
a portable slit lamp?Copy !req
515. Definitely, yeah.Copy !req
516. Javadi, what do you think
of the anterior chamber?Copy !req
517. - Hyphema?
- Exactly.Copy !req
518. Grade 4.Copy !req
519. - Yeah, meaning?
- Javadi.Copy !req
520. Meaning blood is filling up
the front eye chamber.Copy !req
521. He'll need an emergency
evaluation by ophthalmology.Copy !req
522. OK, is that why he can't see?Copy !req
523. That's part of it. Yeah.Copy !req
524. You see how the eye
is pushing out?Copy !req
525. There seems to be a collection
of blood behind the eyeball.Copy !req
526. The eye pressure is too high.
We have to act quickly.Copy !req
527. - OK, well, check the pressure!
- We're going to right now.Copy !req
528. Can you get Robby?Copy !req
529. It looked like
you were havingCopy !req
530. a pretty intense conversation
with Robby earlier.Copy !req
531. Everything OK?Copy !req
532. Uh, it was nothing.Copy !req
533. Nothing?Copy !req
534. Yeah, well, not nothing,Copy !req
535. but nothing for you
to be concerned about.Copy !req
536. An intern has
a problem around here,Copy !req
537. they come
to the senior resident,Copy !req
538. not the attending.Copy !req
539. He is my attending,Copy !req
540. and I wanted his input
on a patient.Copy !req
541. Is that not OK with you?Copy !req
542. Just, um...Copy !req
543. come to me first next time.Copy !req
544. Got it?Copy !req
545. Yep.Copy !req
546. Got it.Copy !req
547. Are you a junior?Copy !req
548. Yeah.Copy !req
549. You thinking about college?Copy !req
550. I have some D1 interest,
but...Copy !req
551. where'd you go to college?Copy !req
552. Uh, Pitt for undergrad
and now med school.Copy !req
553. Didn't wanna leave town?Copy !req
554. Look up at the ceiling
for some numbing drops.Copy !req
555. It's not exactly an option
to live anywhere but homeCopy !req
556. when you go to college at 13.Copy !req
557. Wow.Copy !req
558. Add some drops
to the fluorescein strip.Copy !req
559. I was thinking
about California,Copy !req
560. maybe UCLA or USC.Copy !req
561. - Hold still.
- Hey, maybe you goCopy !req
562. straight to the Majors, huh?Copy !req
563. College can wait.Copy !req
564. I don't know.Copy !req
565. I do.Copy !req
566. Ev's got a God-given gift.Copy !req
567. It's why we spent every
weekend doing travel ballCopy !req
568. when he was young—
pro camp, showcases.Copy !req
569. He's not throwing away
his shot at the Majors.Copy !req
570. Uh, we have to check
for a punctureCopy !req
571. before we can
measure the pressure.Copy !req
572. Look straight ahead and try
not to move your eyes, OK?Copy !req
573. - Yes, ma'am.
- Lights going out.Copy !req
574. Hello.
I'm Dr. Robinavitch.Copy !req
575. Everybody calls me Dr. Robby.Copy !req
576. Hey, Greg Young.
This is my boy, Everett.Copy !req
577. Nice to meet you both.Copy !req
578. OK, I will take that slit lamp,Copy !req
579. and you can calibrate
for tonometry.Copy !req
580. - OK.
- They're holding CT for him.Copy !req
581. Let's take a look.Copy !req
582. Negative Seidel.Copy !req
583. No globe rupture.
OK, go with the Tono-Pen.Copy !req
584. OK.
Hold still.Copy !req
585. OK.Copy !req
586. Left eye pressure 58.Copy !req
587. - Is that high?
- Yes, it is. 1% lido with epi.Copy !req
588. Push one of Versed, and open
a lateral canthotomy tray.Copy !req
589. Excuse me.
- What?Copy !req
590. - Whoa.
- Without a CT? Isn't that—Copy !req
591. Exactly what
the patient needs?Copy !req
592. Yes, it is, Dr. McKay.Copy !req
593. OK.Copy !req
594. Uh, we're gonna lie you back
a little, Everett, OK?Copy !req
595. We need to do
a little minor surgeryCopy !req
596. to relieve the pressure
behind your eye.Copy !req
597. So we are going to cut
a small openingCopy !req
598. on the side of your eye,
not in your eye.Copy !req
599. Got it?
- Yeah.Copy !req
600. Do you wanna watch?Copy !req
601. No, I'll—I'll sit down.Copy !req
602. Javadi, step up
so you can see.Copy !req
603. Dr. McKay, Chad is splinted
and is awaiting OrthoCopy !req
604. for surgery to take him.Copy !req
605. Thanks for the update.Copy !req
606. Versed's on board.Copy !req
607. Numbing medicine here, OK?Copy !req
608. OK.Copy !req
609. Pinprick and some burning.Copy !req
610. Ouch.Copy !req
611. What—is Dana gonna be OK?Copy !req
612. It's gonna take more
than a punch to the faceCopy !req
613. to keep that mama down.Copy !req
614. She's tough.Copy !req
615. Yeah.Copy !req
616. Um, hi.Copy !req
617. I'm sorry to bother you.Copy !req
618. Hi.Copy !req
619. Uh, I—I just wanna make sure
that Teddy's not in any pain.Copy !req
620. Oh, he's heavily sedated.Copy !req
621. He can't feel a thing.
- Right.Copy !req
622. It's just that when
I look at him, I just—Copy !req
623. I just feel so helpless.Copy !req
624. Look, his, uh, CT scans
came back negativeCopy !req
625. for internal injuries.Copy !req
626. He's on IV therapy
to replace any lost fluids.Copy !req
627. I assure you,
we are doing everything we canCopy !req
628. to give him
the best treatment possible.Copy !req
629. Thank you.Copy !req
630. Yeah.Copy !req
631. Teddy's ring.Copy !req
632. Um...Copy !req
633. I had to cut it off
because of the swelling.Copy !req
634. Hopefully you can find
a good jeweler to fix it.Copy !req
635. I don't know how it works.Copy !req
636. Um...Copy !req
637. do you have
a best friend, Doctor...Copy !req
638. Oh, it's a another year to go
till you can call me "Doctor."Copy !req
639. You can just call me
Whitaker, though.Copy !req
640. Do you have a best friend,
Whitaker?Copy !req
641. Uh, I have
three older brothers.Copy !req
642. I guess they're kind of
my best friends.Copy !req
643. They kind of tortured me
growing up, so maybe not.Copy !req
644. But yeah.Copy !req
645. Teddy's been my best friend
since we were 15.Copy !req
646. High school sweethearts?Copy !req
647. We were just a couple
of nerdy aggies who, uh—Copy !req
648. we met in 4-H,
and we fell in love.Copy !req
649. I'm sorry.Copy !req
650. No, it's fine.Copy !req
651. I'm a third generation
Nebraska farm kid myself.Copy !req
652. Get out.Copy !req
653. Well—well, if you're ever
homesick, you should, uh—Copy !req
654. you should come by
our farm sometime.Copy !req
655. That's very kind.Copy !req
656. I need some help in here!Copy !req
657. - What's going on?
- Respiratory distress.Copy !req
658. Sats are dropping, 87%.Copy !req
659. Uh, lung injury
from the fire?Copy !req
660. It's not just the low sats.
The vent's showingCopy !req
661. high peak pressure,
low tidal volume.Copy !req
662. - Uh, restrictive pattern?
- Most likely.Copy !req
663. I'll grab Robby and Langdon.Copy !req
664. Wait, wait, wait,
wait, wait, wait.Copy !req
665. What's that?
What's going on?Copy !req
666. Ventilator is having trouble
pumping air into Teddy's lungs.Copy !req
667. Burnt skin loses elasticity.Copy !req
668. Now his chest wall
is too tight.Copy !req
669. What can you do?Copy !req
670. We're gonna have to cut
the burnt skin,Copy !req
671. release pressure
on the chest wall,Copy !req
672. help Teddy breathe.Copy !req
673. So after you cut his eye,
he'll see again?Copy !req
674. This will give us
our best shotCopy !req
675. at preserving his vision, yes.Copy !req
676. Dr. McKay, are you ready
to do the honors?Copy !req
677. Who, me?Copy !req
678. We are a teaching hospital.Copy !req
679. Are you still here to learn?Copy !req
680. Yes. Yeah.Copy !req
681. OK.Copy !req
682. You can release
that hemostat now.Copy !req
683. Pair of scissors.Copy !req
684. The length
of the crushed areaCopy !req
685. is going to be your guide
for the length of your cut.Copy !req
686. OK.Copy !req
687. Good.Copy !req
688. Toothed forceps.Copy !req
689. Feeling for the inferior...Copy !req
690. And superior crus.Copy !req
691. How can you see
with all that blood?Copy !req
692. You can't.
It's all tactile.Copy !req
693. It feels like
two guitar strings.Copy !req
694. Metzenbaum.Copy !req
695. Inferior...Copy !req
696. Yeah.Copy !req
697. And superior.Copy !req
698. Nice.Copy !req
699. Good.Copy !req
700. Oh, that's a lot of blood.Copy !req
701. OK, let's get
a repeat pressure.Copy !req
702. It's getting
a lot brighter in here.Copy !req
703. Pressure of 18.Copy !req
704. Perfect.Copy !req
705. CT can take him as soon
as we dress the wound.Copy !req
706. Let's page Ophthalmology and
tell them to prep for surgery.Copy !req
707. Doc, thank you.
Thank you.Copy !req
708. My pleasure, my pleasure.Copy !req
709. Good luck to you, Everett.Copy !req
710. Hey.Copy !req
711. Thanks for letting me do that.Copy !req
712. You sound surprised.Copy !req
713. Yeah, I figured after
the whole Theresa thing,Copy !req
714. you might bench me.Copy !req
715. Am I still pissed
that you went behind my back?Copy !req
716. Absolutely.Copy !req
717. And if you ever do it again,
you can bet your assCopy !req
718. that I will bench you.Copy !req
719. But this is
a teaching hospital,Copy !req
720. and teachers can
still learn stuff.Copy !req
721. I saw a sad, confused boy,
and that's all I thought about.Copy !req
722. I did not think enough
about those girls.Copy !req
723. Any word on Dana?Copy !req
724. She should be coming back
from CT soon.Copy !req
725. Burn victim's tanking.
We need you.Copy !req
726. Oh, my God, I can't wait
for this shift to be over.Copy !req
727. Hey, bud, you doing OK?Copy !req
728. Yeah.
Mateo hooked me up.Copy !req
729. Right, I can see that.Copy !req
730. How's Dad?Copy !req
731. He's gonna need surgery,
but he's gonna be OK.Copy !req
732. You know, I was thinking,
since your dad's gonna beCopy !req
733. laid up for a while,
maybe you'd wanna stay with meCopy !req
734. until he gets better?Copy !req
735. For real?Copy !req
736. For real.Copy !req
737. What do you think?Copy !req
738. I'll take that as a yes.Copy !req
739. This procedure is called
an escharotomy.Copy !req
740. We need to cut the skin so that
the chest wall can expand.Copy !req
741. That sounds painful.Copy !req
742. Whitaker?Copy !req
743. He's still heavily sedated.Copy !req
744. He won't feel a thing.Copy !req
745. This is gonna help
Teddy breathe.Copy !req
746. Sat's 83.Copy !req
747. Peak pressure is over 40.Copy !req
748. Tidal volume is only 300.Copy !req
749. I want you to watch
Dr. LangdonCopy !req
750. as he makes
this vertical incision.Copy !req
751. Then you're gonna do the exact
same thing on your sideCopy !req
752. and follow his instructions.Copy !req
753. I'm sorry, I just—Copy !req
754. I don't think I can watch it.Copy !req
755. Jordan, would you—Copy !req
756. Start at lateral clavicle.Copy !req
757. Down anterior axillaryCopy !req
758. to lower rib margin.Copy !req
759. That tissue is
really popping out.Copy !req
760. Which illustrates what?Copy !req
761. The pressure underneath.Copy !req
762. Your turn.Copy !req
763. Here goes.Copy !req
764. - A little more pressure.
- Yeah.Copy !req
765. Need to make
a decisive incisionCopy !req
766. to get through the eschar
into sub-Q.Copy !req
767. Go back a little deeper
on that first section.Copy !req
768. OK.Copy !req
769. Yep.Copy !req
770. Yep, good.
- Uh-huh.Copy !req
771. Looking good.Copy !req
772. OK.Copy !req
773. Now the horizontal incision,
Dr. Langdon.Copy !req
774. And connecting
the two incisions.Copy !req
775. That ought to do it.Copy !req
776. Peak pressure's
already down to the 30s.Copy !req
777. And tidal volume
is coming up.Copy !req
778. Sat's 91.Copy !req
779. That was wild.Copy !req
780. Let's dress these wounds
and send off a blood gas.Copy !req
781. Well done,Copy !req
782. and very well taught,
Dr. Langdon.Copy !req
783. Thank you.Copy !req
784. You think Wholey's will still
be open by the time we get off?Copy !req
785. - No.
- No. No.Copy !req
786. Damn.Copy !req
787. I was hoping to surprise
Abby and the kids,Copy !req
788. grill up some salmon
for dinner.Copy !req
789. Mm, such an
adrenaline junkie.Copy !req
790. What'd you call me?Copy !req
791. Your ice plunges.
Marathon man.Copy !req
792. Surprise, here's a dog.Copy !req
793. Surprise, here's some salmon.Copy !req
794. Who pissed
in your cornflakes?Copy !req
795. Oh, oh.Copy !req
796. What, I touch a nerve?Copy !req
797. You're regretting buying
that dog, aren't you?Copy !req
798. Ew.Copy !req
799. Ooh, Robby.Copy !req
800. Dana's CT results are back.Copy !req
801. No intracranial hemorrhage,
no skull fracture,Copy !req
802. non-displaced nasal fracture,Copy !req
803. but the rest of the facial
bones look intact.Copy !req
804. Any hemorrhaging
into the sinuses?Copy !req
805. - Nada.
- Great.Copy !req
806. We could really use her
back on the floor.Copy !req
807. What? I'm just saying.Copy !req
808. Mind if I give her
the good news?Copy !req
809. No, go for it—
and anything else she needs.Copy !req
810. I got it.Copy !req
811. About the whole thing
with SantosCopy !req
812. and the seizure patient...Copy !req
813. What about it?Copy !req
814. I'm sorry
for laying into her so hard.Copy !req
815. Why do I feel
there's a "but" coming?Copy !req
816. But I don't think
she's a team player.Copy !req
817. How so?Copy !req
818. She's cherry-picking cases.Copy !req
819. She gave Whitaker
a shitty nicknameCopy !req
820. after his patient died
this morning.Copy !req
821. She's—she's even
harassing JavadiCopy !req
822. to get a rec from her mom
for surgery.Copy !req
823. If she wants to be in surgery,Copy !req
824. what's she doing in the ER?Copy !req
825. That's a great question.Copy !req
826. Why don't you ask
her new BFF, Garcia?Copy !req
827. I know that you've seen
those two.Copy !req
828. I'm the only one
calling her out,Copy !req
829. so she has an axe to grind.Copy !req
830. You've always said
that being in the PittCopy !req
831. is like playing a team sport.Copy !req
832. A team has to be able
to trust each other.Copy !req
833. If we have one weak link,
this whole place goes to shit.Copy !req
834. Good meeting.Copy !req
835. Call Zauzy in Family Med.Copy !req
836. They open up
their urgent care at 5:00.Copy !req
837. Let them know we're sending up
the two hockey kids.Copy !req
838. Yep, Zauzy in Fam Med.Copy !req
839. OK, copy that.Copy !req
840. And, uh,
please check in on Earl.Copy !req
841. Poor thing got caughtCopy !req
842. in the crosshairs
of that mom fight.Copy !req
843. Maybe bring him
another sandwich.Copy !req
844. - Yeah, OK.
- Good.Copy !req
845. No egg salad.Copy !req
846. Dana, I got you. OK?
Rest up, bud.Copy !req
847. You can take
the girl out of the ER,Copy !req
848. but you can't take
the ER out of the girl.Copy !req
849. Old habits die hard.Copy !req
850. Let me take a look?Copy !req
851. Oh, she's a real beauty,
all right.Copy !req
852. But your CT came back clean—Copy !req
853. nothing Mother Nature
can't heal on her own.Copy !req
854. Hmm. Too bad.Copy !req
855. I was hoping
for a free nose job.Copy !req
856. Probably get hazard pay.Copy !req
857. Two for one.Copy !req
858. Ooh.Copy !req
859. Ugh.Copy !req
860. You know, you're cleared to go
back to work if you want—Copy !req
861. or home.Copy !req
862. Oh, not ready yet.Copy !req
863. You?Copy !req
864. Nope.Copy !req
865. Got a lot to think about.Copy !req
866. Yeah.Copy !req
867. Been a pretty fucked up day.Copy !req
868. What do you call
a group of brainsCopy !req
869. who form a singing group?Copy !req
870. What?Copy !req
871. A glia club.Copy !req
872. Oh.Copy !req
873. Good one.Copy !req
874. Keep me posted
if there are any changes.Copy !req
875. Um, what's with
Dr. Mehta and the—Copy !req
876. the jokes?Copy !req
877. You know why they say
laughter is the best medicine?Copy !req
878. Because it's true.Copy !req
879. Laughter releases endorphins.Copy !req
880. Endorphins help relieve pain.Copy !req
881. Um, so—Copy !req
882. Dr. Mehta thinks that
if a joke helps raise spiritsCopy !req
883. and makes people feel better,
then he's all for it.Copy !req
884. It's his special sauce.Copy !req
885. Um, do you have
a special sauce?Copy !req
886. I'm pretty data-driven,
but I really likeCopy !req
887. to talk to my patients
about their lives.Copy !req
888. Makes them feel important.Copy !req
889. She's waking up.Copy !req
890. How are you feeling?Copy !req
891. OK.Copy !req
892. Are you trying to say "OK"?Copy !req
893. Yes!Copy !req
894. The thrombolytics are working.Copy !req
895. Um, can you, uh, lift
your right leg for me?Copy !req
896. That's OK.Copy !req
897. Um, try moving it
from side to side.Copy !req
898. Can you tell us your name?Copy !req
899. Oh, um, maybe you can type it
out on the screen here.Copy !req
900. Vera.Copy !req
901. OK, uh, and what's
your last name?Copy !req
902. Mullahy?Copy !req
903. Well, hello, Vera Mullahy.Copy !req
904. - Hey.
- Oh.Copy !req
905. Hey.
- Chad's a real piece of work.Copy !req
906. I appreciate you
dealing with him.Copy !req
907. You know,
it was actually kind of fun.Copy !req
908. I did not have that
on my bingo card.Copy !req
909. Well, you know,
patients under propofolCopy !req
910. are always a good time.Copy !req
911. Yeah?Copy !req
912. What did he say?Copy !req
913. Nothing.Copy !req
914. Nothing to worry about,
unless you're concernedCopy !req
915. he still has a thing for you.Copy !req
916. Oh, please, euthanize me
if I ever even consider it.Copy !req
917. But, you know,
if I could go back,Copy !req
918. I wouldn't change a thing.Copy !req
919. Without Chad,
I wouldn't have Harrison.Copy !req
920. You're very lucky.Copy !req
921. I know, right?Copy !req
922. All right.Copy !req
923. Thanks again.Copy !req
924. I was getting ready
to take her upCopy !req
925. when she developed angioedema,
and her sats dropped.Copy !req
926. A little bit of stridor.Copy !req
927. Swollen lips, swollen tongue.Copy !req
928. Vera, this is a side effect
of the medication we gave you.Copy !req
929. Sats are up
with high flow nasal.Copy !req
930. It's anaphylaxis.
Get Robby.Copy !req
931. Angioedema is not
always anaphylaxis.Copy !req
932. I know, but it can progress
to it and cause an obstruction.Copy !req
933. If it's just angioedema,
I can reverseCopy !req
934. the swelling fast with IV epi.Copy !req
935. BP's 165 over 85.Copy !req
936. Prep Ketamine and Roc
for intubation.Copy !req
937. Hold on. Wait, wait.
But Dr. Mohan, you just said—Copy !req
938. We're not intubating yet.Copy !req
939. But she's gonna arrest.Copy !req
940. What happened?Copy !req
941. Angioedema with stridor.Copy !req
942. Respiratory is on their way.Copy !req
943. We should intubate, right?
- Good BP and O2 sats.Copy !req
944. Epinephrine can reverse
the swelling right away.Copy !req
945. I pushed 10 mics of IV epi.Copy !req
946. Starting her drip at 5 cc's,
5 mikes per minute.Copy !req
947. Sats are holding
at 95 on high flow.Copy !req
948. BP is good.Copy !req
949. Vera, we're gonna sedate youCopy !req
950. so that we can help you
breathe better.Copy !req
951. Or not.
Let's just wait a minute.Copy !req
952. How'd you get that epi drip
hung so fast?Copy !req
953. Bedside drip.Copy !req
954. I mixed 1 milligram
with a liter.Copy !req
955. Nice.Copy !req
956. Are we intubating?
Are we not intubating?Copy !req
957. Not.Copy !req
958. Stridor is improving.Copy !req
959. Is it getting
easier to breathe?Copy !req
960. Mm-hmm, hmm.Copy !req
961. Speech is coming back.Copy !req
962. 50 diphenhydramine,
125 Solumedrol.Copy !req
963. Do you think Dr. Mehta
will want her intubatedCopy !req
964. for the thrombectomy?
- Not necessarily.Copy !req
965. If she can talk and move
during the procedure,Copy !req
966. then they can monitor
any changes in the neuro exam.Copy !req
967. Slo-Mo, No-Mo!Copy !req
968. Sorry, I think Dr. Mehta
is rubbing off on me.Copy !req
969. We're taking him up
to our burn unit.Copy !req
970. He'll be in great hands.Copy !req
971. They've had lots of experience
with cases like Teddy's.Copy !req
972. What now?Copy !req
973. We will continue
with IV fluids and pain meds.Copy !req
974. We'll support his breathing
with the ventilator,Copy !req
975. and we'll keep
his wounds clean,Copy !req
976. look for any signs
of infection.Copy !req
977. And later, the plastic
surgeons can do skin grafts.Copy !req
978. He's gonna be OK.Copy !req
979. Teddy's condition is
very critical, so no promises.Copy !req
980. But our team is gonna do
everything they canCopy !req
981. to give him
the best chance possible.Copy !req
982. I'll make sure
to stop by the ICU,Copy !req
983. check in on both of you.Copy !req
984. I can't begin to thank you
enough, Dr. Whitaker.Copy !req
985. Oh, uh, student doctor.Copy !req
986. Oh, uh, don't forget
about dinner at the farm.Copy !req
987. And, uh, make sure to brush up
on your diaper-changing skills.Copy !req
988. Oh, with seven
nieces and nephews,Copy !req
989. I'm a Diaper Genie, so...Copy !req
990. You know you just called
yourself a trash can, right?Copy !req
991. Before you grab your next
patient, um, call Kiara.Copy !req
992. Have somebody go upstairs
and talk to the wife.Copy !req
993. Amy? Why?Copy !req
994. We wanted to give her hope,
but the reality is,Copy !req
995. her husband's
not gonna make it.Copy !req
996. He's stable.Copy !req
997. His chance of dying
in the next weekCopy !req
998. is over 90%.Copy !req
999. He's young, he's strong.Copy !req
1000. Maybe he's the 10%.
- Maybe.Copy !req
1001. But he's a lot more likely
to die of sepsisCopy !req
1002. before his kid is born.Copy !req
1003. Call Kiara.Copy !req
1004. The CT shows a hairline
orbital floor fracture.Copy !req
1005. But thanks to the canthotomy,Copy !req
1006. the hematoma isn't
pushing on his eyeball.Copy !req
1007. Will I be able to see?Copy !req
1008. That's why you need surgery.Copy !req
1009. The ophthalmologists will drain
the blood inside the frontCopy !req
1010. of your eye and replace it
with the clear fluidCopy !req
1011. you need to see, OK?Copy !req
1012. They're ready for you now.Copy !req
1013. Hey, hey, hey.Copy !req
1014. Don't worry, bud.Copy !req
1015. All right?Copy !req
1016. So—so he has the surgery,
stays overnight,Copy !req
1017. he goes home tomorrow?Copy !req
1018. It depends on how
the surgery goesCopy !req
1019. and what his post-op
results are like.Copy !req
1020. Give or take.Copy !req
1021. It could be as soon
as tomorrow, yeah.Copy !req
1022. OK.Copy !req
1023. So he could be—Copy !req
1024. could be game-ready
by Thursday.Copy !req
1025. Sir, your son is
freaking outCopy !req
1026. because he may never see
out of his left eye again.Copy !req
1027. - Yeah, that's—
- No, no, forget baseballCopy !req
1028. and just be his dad.Copy !req
1029. God, it can't be
that fucking hard.Copy !req
1030. Uh, there's a waiting roomCopy !req
1031. up by surgery, sixth floor.Copy !req
1032. Right off the elevator.
You can't miss it.Copy !req
1033. Angioedema responded to epi,Copy !req
1034. diphenhydramine, and steroids.Copy !req
1035. Excellent.Copy !req
1036. Thank you.Copy !req
1037. You're very welcome.Copy !req
1038. Which neurotransmitter
makes the best adhesive?Copy !req
1039. - I don't know—
- Glutamate!Copy !req
1040. "Glue"-tamate.Copy !req
1041. Am I right?Copy !req
1042. Nicely done, Dr. King.Copy !req
1043. That was really quick
thinking back there.Copy !req
1044. I'm really sorry if
it seemed like I doubted you.Copy !req
1045. I didn't. I just—Copy !req
1046. Honestly,
I surprised myself a bit.Copy !req
1047. Yeah?Copy !req
1048. Well, you trusted your gut.Copy !req
1049. Maybe that's
your special sauce.Copy !req
1050. Maybe.Copy !req
1051. Um, Dr. Mohan,Copy !req
1052. what if I don't have
special sauce?Copy !req
1053. Of course you do.Copy !req
1054. Just be yourself.Copy !req
1055. It'll come.Copy !req
1056. So now might be
a good time to go overCopy !req
1057. some doctor-patient
interaction guidelines.Copy !req
1058. I'm sorry.
That dad was just such...Copy !req
1059. - So overbearing.
- An asshole.Copy !req
1060. I'm sorry.Copy !req
1061. Look, do I think he needed
to chill out a little bit?Copy !req
1062. Yes.Copy !req
1063. But he's a parent,
and this might beCopy !req
1064. his way of coping
with the stressCopy !req
1065. of a very frightening
situation.Copy !req
1066. I'm sorry.
I don't know what came over me.Copy !req
1067. No, I do.Copy !req
1068. You and that baseball kidCopy !req
1069. are two pressure cooker
prodigies in a pod.Copy !req
1070. Just as physicians,
we gotta learnCopy !req
1071. to keep our emotions in check
and not letCopy !req
1072. our personal
experiences interfereCopy !req
1073. with our professional
responsibilities.Copy !req
1074. How long did it take you
to learn that?Copy !req
1075. I'm still learning.Copy !req
1076. And I also learned
to never get on your bad side.Copy !req
1077. Yo, yo, yo.Copy !req
1078. - Hey.
- Almost quitting time.Copy !req
1079. I so appreciate you
helping me out with Harrison.Copy !req
1080. - Oh.
- And my douchebag ex.Copy !req
1081. - Hey, we all have them.
- Yeah.Copy !req
1082. Oh. Totally.Copy !req
1083. Me too. Me too.Copy !req
1084. Yeah.Copy !req
1085. I'm always happy to help.Copy !req
1086. Yeah.Copy !req
1087. So I get off in a couple hours.Copy !req
1088. Do you mind just doing
a loop every once in a whileCopy !req
1089. to make sure he's not
burning the place down?Copy !req
1090. - Can do.
- Great.Copy !req
1091. And, you know,
a new foot massage placeCopy !req
1092. just opened
in the Strip District.Copy !req
1093. Do you wanna go on Sunday?Copy !req
1094. - For sure. Yeah, yeah.
- OK, cool.Copy !req
1095. I'm free Sunday—Copy !req
1096. um, to—to help or just do—Copy !req
1097. yeah, whatever.
Wherever.Copy !req
1098. Oh, my God.Copy !req
1099. I mean, Harrison would love
a sitter closer to his own age.Copy !req
1100. I—
I'll get your numberCopy !req
1101. and text you the address?
That's awesome.Copy !req
1102. - Oh.
- Thank you.Copy !req
1103. Oh, sure.Copy !req
1104. Dr. Santos, a moment, please?Copy !req
1105. So how's
your first day going?Copy !req
1106. So far, so good.Copy !req
1107. Getting along with everyone?Copy !req
1108. Yeah, pretty much.Copy !req
1109. Except Langdon?Copy !req
1110. So in this ER,
we all need to work togetherCopy !req
1111. as a single unified entity.Copy !req
1112. And if two people on my team
can't work together,Copy !req
1113. it kind of throws
the rhythm of the place off.Copy !req
1114. Understood.Copy !req
1115. My duty, regardless
of personal relationships,Copy !req
1116. is to make sure everybody
on my team is doing OK.Copy !req
1117. So are you doing OK?Copy !req
1118. Uh, it's not a big deal.Copy !req
1119. I can handle it.Copy !req
1120. Handle what?Copy !req
1121. Nothing.
It—it's fine.Copy !req
1122. I—Copy !req
1123. I don't wanna get
anyone in trouble.Copy !req
1124. Hmm.Copy !req
1125. OK, if there is anything—Copy !req
1126. anything that could
affect my ER,Copy !req
1127. I need to know about it,Copy !req
1128. and you have
a responsibility to tell me.Copy !req
1129. - Hey.
- Hey.Copy !req
1130. Did they catch the bastard
who sucker punched you?Copy !req
1131. I haven't heard.Copy !req
1132. Well, when they do,
just send him to me.Copy !req
1133. I can make it look
like an accident.Copy !req
1134. I might just take you up
on that.Copy !req
1135. Mm, you betcha.Copy !req
1136. You've been paroled!Copy !req
1137. - Are you sure?
- Yeah.Copy !req
1138. - Oh.
- OK. Yeah.Copy !req
1139. Ow. OK.Copy !req
1140. Yep. Go check on Myrna.Copy !req
1141. - You got a sec?
- Bless you.Copy !req
1142. For you, boss, I got two.Copy !req
1143. What's up?Copy !req
1144. I heard there's beenCopy !req
1145. some inconsistencies with meds
intended for your patients.Copy !req
1146. What?Copy !req
1147. Frank, have you been helping
yourself to benzos from the ER?Copy !req
1148. Yeah, I've been
stealing blood too.Copy !req
1149. I asked you a question.Copy !req
1150. Wait, are you serious?Copy !req
1151. What are you doing?Copy !req
1152. Really?Copy !req
1153. Santos?Copy !req
1154. Whatever the hell
she told you is bullshit.Copy !req
1155. I didn't mention Santos.Copy !req
1156. You didn't have to.Copy !req
1157. I told you, she is trouble.Copy !req
1158. Have you ever taken
a patient's medication?Copy !req
1159. This is insane.Copy !req
1160. This is completely
fucking insane.Copy !req
1161. I need you
to open your locker.Copy !req
1162. - Yeah, right.
- Open your locker.Copy !req
1163. You're gonna regret—Copy !req
1164. Open your fucking locker,Copy !req
1165. or I will have security
smash it open.Copy !req
1166. Is the imprint code
on these pillsCopy !req
1167. gonna match Louie's Librium?Copy !req
1168. Go home, Frank.Copy !req
1169. No, no,
it's not like you think.Copy !req
1170. You remember, whenever
I helped my parents move,Copy !req
1171. I was too cheap
to pay for movers.Copy !req
1172. I hurt my back.
I told you that.Copy !req
1173. You teased me
about it, remember?Copy !req
1174. Well, our own Dr. Hagan
prescribed meCopy !req
1175. some pain meds
and muscle relaxants.Copy !req
1176. I was just weaning myself off.Copy !req
1177. It was just for maintenance.
I'm done.Copy !req
1178. Robby, come on.Copy !req
1179. You know me, Robby.Copy !req
1180. You know me, man.Copy !req
1181. I'm sorry. I fucked up.Copy !req
1182. I just—I—I was trying to—
- Trying to what?Copy !req
1183. Steal pills
without getting caught?Copy !req
1184. No, it's not like—
you don't under—Copy !req
1185. - I don't fucking understand?
- It's not like you think!Copy !req
1186. I'm not high. I'm not high.Copy !req
1187. You've seen what I do, Robby.Copy !req
1188. Could a drug addict
do what I do?Copy !req
1189. Apparently.Copy !req
1190. And I just fucking let him!Copy !req
1191. You're done.Copy !req
1192. Leave now, or I will have
Ahmad escort you out.Copy !req
1193. Robby, please.Copy !req
1194. You are done.Copy !req
1195. What?
hat?Copy !req
