1. - A tower?
- I need it completed by spring.Copy !req
2. Have you considered
seeking partners outsideCopy !req
3. - the confines of our own race?Copy !req
4. Tell me about your King's proposalCopy !req
5. so I can present it to my father.Copy !req
6. I'd sense it
if he were hiding something.Copy !req
7. Perhaps he sensed that
it was you who was hiding something.Copy !req
8. What is this place?Copy !req
9. The Island Kingdom of Númenor.Copy !req
10. I was thinking I might defer.Copy !req
11. When the Sea Trial begins
and that ship launches,Copy !req
12. you will be on it.Copy !req
13. I don't want any trouble.Copy !req
14. It is a map of the Southlands.Copy !req
15. It speaks not only of a place, but a plan.Copy !req
16. To create a realm of their own.Copy !req
17. Then the Southlands are in grave danger.Copy !req
18. If Sauron has indeed returned,Copy !req
19. the Southlands are but the beginning.Copy !req
20. If there are any of you here
who want to live...Copy !req
21. we make for the Elven tower
at first light.Copy !req
22. Bring him to Adar.Copy !req
23. Adar!Copy !req
24. Sauron was said to have
many names in days of old.Copy !req
25. Perhaps this is one of them.Copy !req
26. Your people have no king,
for you are him.Copy !req
27. Come with me to Middle-earth.Copy !req
28. You're still short an army.Copy !req
29. That is all about to change.Copy !req
30. In this court,Copy !req
31. we gather daily
to hammer out our island's future.Copy !req
32. But at the Blessing of the Children,Copy !req
33. we gather to welcome those
who will live that future.Copy !req
34. One as boundless as a sunrise
over the rolling sea.Copy !req
35. What name have you chosen for her?Copy !req
36. Alinel.Copy !req
37. Alinel.Copy !req
38. May Númenor's strength arise in thee.Copy !req
39. Her wisdom guide thy steps...Copy !req
40. Sometimes our island just needs a stretch.Copy !req
41. Just like you.Copy !req
42. - It is a perfect day, Queen Regent.Copy !req
43. What business would you begin with?Copy !req
44. She summoned the Elf to court.Copy !req
45. Just this morning.Copy !req
46. Elf's mate attacks four guildsmen,
and Míriel has her up for tea?Copy !req
47. Probably she called
the Elf in to punish her.Copy !req
48. And while the Elf whispers poison
in our Queen's ear,Copy !req
49. - who's speaking for us?Copy !req
50. Chancellor! Chancellor!Copy !req
51. Send her my regards, will you?
Keep your voice down.Copy !req
52. Would you like one, sir?
Come on, sir.Copy !req
53. I didn't realize you were in the middle
of something important.Copy !req
54. Chancellor!Copy !req
55. Statecraft is the art
of attending to small mattersCopy !req
56. as diligently as grand ones.Copy !req
57. I should like to think
you'd learned that by now.Copy !req
58. I was only trying to be clever.Copy !req
59. Cleverness is for men
of small ambition.Copy !req
60. I'd much rather it
if you were wise, my son.Copy !req
61. Now, what seems to be the trouble, hmm?Copy !req
62. We may have a bit of a squall
on our hands.Copy !req
63. Elf ships on our shore?Copy !req
64. Elf workers taking your trades?Copy !req
65. Workers who don't sleep,Copy !req
66. don't tire, don't age.Copy !req
67. No!Copy !req
68. I say, the Queen's either blindCopy !req
69. or an Elf lover.Copy !req
70. - Just like her father.Copy !req
71. - Elf lover!
- Elf lover!Copy !req
72. Elf lover! Elf lover!Copy !req
73. And if the Elf were here now,
what would she see?Copy !req
74. Men of Númenor,Copy !req
75. or a gaggle of mewling children?Copy !req
76. We are sons and daughters of the Edain.Copy !req
77. Of Elros Tar-Minyatur, whose host
conquered Morgoth himself.Copy !req
78. But now one Elf, a castaway,
could threaten us?Copy !req
79. Look down, each of you,
at the guild crests you bear.Copy !req
80. The heritage of mighty hands.Copy !req
81. Of men who laid the Sea Wall.Copy !req
82. Who raised Armenelos,Copy !req
83. - triumph of our civilization.Copy !req
84. But now, one Elf could threaten us?Copy !req
85. My friends...Copy !req
86. Trust in me.Copy !req
87. For by the calluses on my hands,Copy !req
88. I swear that Elven hands
will never take Númenor's helm.Copy !req
89. She will remain, as always,
a kingdom of Men.Copy !req
90. Drinks all around!Copy !req
91. Pharazôn! Pharazôn!Copy !req
92. Isn't a name in this city he doesn't know,Copy !req
93. a crowd he can't turn,
a favor he isn't owed...Copy !req
94. It's impressive.Copy !req
95. I was going to say "infuriating."Copy !req
96. From vineyards near the Meneltarma.Copy !req
97. Supposed to make you forget your troubles.Copy !req
98. - Or so they say.Copy !req
99. My troubles have been too hard-won.Copy !req
100. You must be the new apprentice.Copy !req
101. I'm Kemen. And your name is...Copy !req
102. Hey, Eärien. Plans, now.Copy !req
103. Oh.Copy !req
104. You vex me, Elf.Copy !req
105. I welcome you as a guest,Copy !req
106. and you gallop off to our countryside
to steal ancient scrollsCopy !req
107. whilst your Southlander companion
assaults our citizenry.Copy !req
108. He is understandably quick to temper.
His people are dying.Copy !req
109. "His people"?Copy !req
110. I believe the man you hold
in your dungeons is no common brawler,Copy !req
111. but the lost heir in exile
to the throne of the Southlands.Copy !req
112. And I suppose Elendil here
is a Rhûnic emperor.Copy !req
113. Just a petty lord, actually.Copy !req
114. His people are scattered. Leaderless.Copy !req
115. But with your backing they might unite
behind his banner. And fight.Copy !req
116. What do you mean "backing"?Copy !req
117. Sauron was once your people's enemy,
as much as mine.Copy !req
118. I call on you
to finish the task left undone.Copy !req
119. To reforge the alliance
between Númenor and Elves...Copy !req
120. And fight with me,
to save the men of the SouthlandsCopy !req
121. before Sauron claims their lands
for his own.Copy !req
122. In this court we hear many proposals.Copy !req
123. I dare say yours is the most surprising
and ambitious I've heard in weeks.Copy !req
124. Nevertheless, Númenor has chosen
another path.Copy !req
125. Not all Númenor.Copy !req
126. King or carpenter,
the Southlander will face judgment.Copy !req
127. This audience is ended.Copy !req
128. Then I have little choice,
but to ask for another.Copy !req
129. One with Númenor's true ruler.Copy !req
130. Your father, the King.Copy !req
131. You should not speak of matters
you do not understand,Copy !req
132. Galadriel, daughter of Finarfin.Copy !req
133. And you should stand aside,Copy !req
134. that I might present my proposal to one
who holds the authority to answer it.Copy !req
135. Lady Galadriel, that is quite enough.Copy !req
136. And with what authority do you speak, Elf?Copy !req
137. That of your people?Copy !req
138. Or are you a castaway,
grasping for a handhold in a tempest?Copy !req
139. There is a tempest in me.Copy !req
140. It swept me to this island for a reason.Copy !req
141. And it will not be quelled by you, Regent.Copy !req
142. Don't tell me.Copy !req
143. Tavern brawl?Copy !req
144. Sedition.Copy !req
145. You've nearly made it!Copy !req
146. In a few more days,Copy !req
147. I'll have the pleasure
of calling all of you shipmates.Copy !req
148. Pull now, cadets! Pull!Copy !req
149. Isildur...Copy !req
150. Pull now, cadets!Copy !req
151. Pull!Copy !req
152. Line!Copy !req
153. Sir, no, there must be
some sort of mistake.Copy !req
154. It was my fault, Sea-master.Copy !req
155. I let it slip.Copy !req
156. I've seen you ease that halyard
proper a hundred times.Copy !req
157. That was deliberate.Copy !req
158. You're off the Sea Guard!Copy !req
159. All three of you!Copy !req
160. "The West"? "The real Númenor"?Copy !req
161. That garbage your brother
used to spew, again!Copy !req
162. I thought the sail-master
would only dismiss me.Copy !req
163. I'm sorry.Copy !req
164. You're sorry?Copy !req
165. You're sorry?
You just set our whole lives on fire!Copy !req
166. Where's that chamber pot?
I think I'm gonna be sick.Copy !req
167. I will speak to my father.Copy !req
168. Convince him to see
that you're both reinstated.Copy !req
169. No. Leave it to you to get kicked out
of somethingCopy !req
170. you never earned in the first place.Copy !req
171. - Valandil...
- No.Copy !req
172. Since I was big enough to hold an oar,
I wanted on that boat.Copy !req
173. I did everything I was supposed to do
to earn it. And what did you do?Copy !req
174. What have you ever done but brood
and blabber about your dead mother.Copy !req
175. - Stop it! Stop it! Enough!Copy !req
176. Yeah, same old Isil walking away.Copy !req
177. Isil! Where are you going?Copy !req
178. Going, staying, what does it matter?Copy !req
179. The real problem is him.
And that's not going anywhere.Copy !req
180. Magrot!Copy !req
181. Adar...Copy !req
182. Adar...Copy !req
183. Nampak uglursha.Copy !req
184. Nampak uglursha.Copy !req
185. Where were you born,Copy !req
186. soldier?Copy !req
187. Beleriand.Copy !req
188. By the mouth of the river?Copy !req
189. Who are you?Copy !req
190. I went down that river once...Copy !req
191. When I was young.Copy !req
192. I remember...Copy !req
193. The banks were covered in sage blossoms.Copy !req
194. Miles of them.Copy !req
195. Why do the Orcs call you Father?Copy !req
196. You have been told many lies.Copy !req
197. Some run so deep,Copy !req
198. even the rocks and roots now believe them.Copy !req
199. To untangle it all...Copy !req
200. would all but require the creation
of a new world.Copy !req
201. But that is something
only the gods can do.Copy !req
202. And I am no god. At least...Copy !req
203. Not yet.Copy !req
204. What are you?Copy !req
205. Go to the Men who have taken refuge
in the old watchtower.Copy !req
206. Deliver to them a message.Copy !req
207. What message?Copy !req
208. The barracks are already full.
Try and make camp where you can.Copy !req
209. - Where's this lot from?
- Iorbad.Copy !req
210. That makes it every village
from here to Orodruin.Copy !req
211. Where's the rest?Copy !req
212. That is the rest.Copy !req
213. We'll have to cut rations again.Copy !req
214. You're not cutting my rations.Copy !req
215. Who gave you the right to decide?Copy !req
216. Everyone who decided to come
to this tower, Waldreg. Including you.Copy !req
217. What will we eat?Copy !req
218. - We'll find a way.
- How?Copy !req
219. - I don't know.
- Huh. Plain enough to see that.Copy !req
220. What about Waldreg's root cellar?Copy !req
221. We send a small party into town.Copy !req
222. By day, when the Orcs are fewer,
grab what we can, quick and quiet.Copy !req
223. They'll never even know we were there.Copy !req
224. What poor sod will you rope into that?Copy !req
225. I'll do it, if nobody else will.Copy !req
226. You're not going down there.Copy !req
227. We'll forage the hills again first.
Gather the hunters.Copy !req
228. And what will they hunt? A few rabbits?Copy !req
229. That'll feed us a day.Copy !req
230. Then it's another day.
And let us be grateful for it.Copy !req
231. I'm sick and tiredCopy !req
232. of watching everything go to tatters
and not doing anything about it.Copy !req
233. - We are doing everything we can.
- Well, I'm not!Copy !req
234. Theo. Theo!Copy !req
235. You can either help me
or you can make it harder.Copy !req
236. I should never have let you
talk me into this.Copy !req
237. I'm heading back.Copy !req
238. Don't be such a soft-belly.Copy !req
239. Come on.Copy !req
240. Rowan, the tavern.Copy !req
241. I'm not going in there.Copy !req
242. - There might be more food.Copy !req
243. Come on, this place is deserted.Copy !req
244. All right. I'll go.Copy !req
245. Rowan?Copy !req
246. Young blood.Copy !req
247. Where'd you get that?Copy !req
248. Give it here.Copy !req
249. Oi! I found it!Copy !req
250. I found it! It's a boy! He has the hilt!Copy !req
251. A boy? Where is he?Copy !req
252. You! Send word to Lord-father.Copy !req
253. Rest of you, fan out.Copy !req
254. Nobody sleeps till he's found.Copy !req
255. Got ya!Copy !req
256. Elves and Dwarves working together. Remarkable.Copy !req
257. It is everything you said it would be.Copy !req
258. What?Copy !req
259. Nothing. Just...Copy !req
260. For a moment, standing there,
you were the very image of your father.Copy !req
261. I wasn't aware
you'd ever met him.Copy !req
262. Of course, many times.Copy !req
263. He had that way of seeing far off.Copy !req
264. Do you know, I remember once,
he said to me,Copy !req
265. one day, my future would be
in his son's hands.Copy !req
266. He said it quite casually,
as if one might speak of tomorrow's rain.Copy !req
267. And I've... I've...Copy !req
268. I'd forgotten that until...
Till this moment.Copy !req
269. Isn't that odd?Copy !req
270. You seem unsettled today, my lord.Copy !req
271. - What troubles you?Copy !req
272. No, I promised myself I wouldn't
mention it. He's your friend.Copy !req
273. Durin.Copy !req
274. Either he's avoiding me
or he's... he's hiding something.Copy !req
275. Did you try asking his work teams?Copy !req
276. All nineteen of them.
They keep putting me off.Copy !req
277. One would almost think it suspicious.Copy !req
278. Are you suggesting Durin's got himself
a wee girlfriend?Copy !req
279. - There is none other than you, milady.
- I know.Copy !req
280. - Who'd have him?Copy !req
281. Rich crone, kiss the stone
Polish your gems and goldCopy !req
282. - Ow! Stop it!Copy !req
283. Gerda, stop hitting your brother!Copy !req
284. We're playing the knocking game.Copy !req
285. - Well, knock it off.Copy !req
286. Have you tried the Golden Stairs?Copy !req
287. Or the Three-door Guard?Copy !req
288. I'd forgotten.Copy !req
289. These wee'ns are turning my mind to mush.Copy !req
290. He was off to mine Quartz Chasm today.Copy !req
291. You know, Disa, there is no secret
worth concealing with deception.Copy !req
292. Calling a Dwarf dishonest in her own home?Copy !req
293. That's a recipe for strong gravy.Copy !req
294. If Durin is mining quartz,Copy !req
295. why would he leave
without taking his chiseling axe?Copy !req
296. And why would you prepare
his favorite mealCopy !req
297. if he's gone to a chasm
that takes two full days to descend to?Copy !req
298. Rich crone, kiss the stone
Polish your gems and goldCopy !req
299. Gerda, I'm warning you!Copy !req
300. Durin didn't bring his axeCopy !req
301. because the quartz he's mining
isn't chiseled. It is pried.Copy !req
302. I am making mole-tail stewCopy !req
303. because it needs a wee while to set
before he's home.Copy !req
304. And while it may take several days
for an outsider, such as you,Copy !req
305. Dwarven climbers like my husbandCopy !req
306. can make the descent to Quartz Chasm
in just a few hours.Copy !req
307. Was there anything else
you wanted to ask about, dearie?Copy !req
308. No.Copy !req
309. Thank you.Copy !req
310. Quartz Chasm. Not bad. Not bad.Copy !req
311. I just hope he believed me.
He's not easily taken in, that Elf.Copy !req
312. Certainly not.Copy !req
313. Lucky my future queen could convince
a water rat to wear a mink coat.Copy !req
314. One more reason to count my blessings
I married you, not Margid Rustborin.Copy !req
315. And what are the other reasons?Copy !req
316. I'll tell you later.Copy !req
317. Hush now. We better keep our pipes down.Copy !req
318. Mm-hmm.Copy !req
319. We're making good progress
in the old mine.Copy !req
320. I made sure he was escorted out...Copy !req
321. The old mine
below the Mirrormere.Copy !req
322. You lost, Elf?Copy !req
323. Hmm?Copy !req
324. No. I know exactly where I'm going.Copy !req
325. - Good day.Copy !req
326. - Rich crone, kiss the stone.Copy !req
327. Polish your gems and gold.Copy !req
328. I knew it!Copy !req
329. Durin?Copy !req
330. - Came to spy on me, Elf?
- Hardly.Copy !req
331. - What is this place?Copy !req
332. You really expect me
to believe you do not know?Copy !req
333. That this was not the true reason
he sent you here to begin with?Copy !req
334. You want it for yourselves.Copy !req
335. Durin, want what?Copy !req
336. I care nothing for whatever
is in that chamber.Copy !req
337. I do care for you, for this friendship.Copy !req
338. And secrets do not become it.Copy !req
339. What is the meaning of all this? Mm?Copy !req
340. I need your oath.Copy !req
341. Hand to mountain,Copy !req
342. you'll never breathe so much as a whisperCopy !req
343. of what I'm about to tell you
to another living soul.Copy !req
344. Dwarven anger outlives even Elven memory.Copy !req
345. Break your promise,Copy !req
346. and the power of this stone
will doom you and your kin to sorrow,Copy !req
347. to your last day on this Middle-earth.Copy !req
348. Do you swear it, Elrond?Copy !req
349. I swear on the memory
of my father, Eärendil the Mariner.Copy !req
350. Anything you tell me here
will end in my ears alone.Copy !req
351. Disa detected it
during a routine gold-seaming.Copy !req
352. A new ore.Copy !req
353. Lighter than silk, harder than iron,Copy !req
354. as weaponry,
it would best our proudest blades.Copy !req
355. As specie, it might be dearer than gold.Copy !req
356. It is strange how it catches the light.Copy !req
357. Almost seems lit from within.Copy !req
358. I tell you, this could be the beginning
of a new era for our people.Copy !req
359. Strength, prosperity...Copy !req
360. Then why all the secrecy?Copy !req
361. Why not celebrate this?Copy !req
362. It's perilous to mine.Copy !req
363. My father has restricted our every effortsCopy !req
364. in the name of caution.Copy !req
365. May I?Copy !req
366. What do you call this miracle ore?Copy !req
367. In our tongue, "gray glitter."Copy !req
368. In yours, something like mith-raud.Copy !req
369. No, no. It would be...Copy !req
370. mithril.Copy !req
371. So you really did come all this way
just for Eregion?Copy !req
372. I came because 20 years
is far too long to stay away.Copy !req
373. Even for an Elf.Copy !req
374. Oh.Copy !req
375. Keep it.Copy !req
376. Token of our friendship.Copy !req
377. Very well.Copy !req
378. No!Copy !req
379. Durin! Durin! Durin, no!Copy !req
380. There's four Dwarves down there!Copy !req
381. Durin!Copy !req
382. Eärien, floors and goblets.Copy !req
383. - Ooh!
- Oh!Copy !req
384. I'm so sorry.Copy !req
385. It's all right. It's all right.
It's... It's... It's all right, honestly.Copy !req
386. And here I thought your talents
ended at draftsmanship.Copy !req
387. Scrubbing is good for dexterity.Copy !req
388. Or so the guild master says.Copy !req
389. So, how about this?
I'll do the floors, you do the goblets.Copy !req
390. And the last one to finish
pays for dinner.Copy !req
391. I'm not in the habit of going off
with strange young men.Copy !req
392. Very wise. If I see any,
you'll be the first to know.Copy !req
393. As much as I admire your habit of charging
at every obstacle in your path,Copy !req
394. like a colt in full gallop...Copy !req
395. Has it ever occurred to you
that you're not battling trolls or Orcs,Copy !req
396. but Men?Copy !req
397. Are you really about to advise me
in the art of war?Copy !req
398. No. No, I...Copy !req
399. I wouldn't dare. But then...Copy !req
400. The queen's court isn't exactly
your usual battlefield, is it?Copy !req
401. Go on.Copy !req
402. In an instance like this, it seems to meCopy !req
403. that you'd do well to identify what it is
that your opponent most fears.Copy !req
404. - And exploit it?
- No.Copy !req
405. Give them a means of mastering it.Copy !req
406. So that you can master them.Copy !req
407. So by your standards, I'm in this cell,Copy !req
408. because I've yet to identify
what the queen most fears?Copy !req
409. My very low standards. Yes.Copy !req
410. And I suppose you did,
having met her for all of a few moments?Copy !req
411. During which you managed to demand a ship,
insult her people, defy her orders,Copy !req
412. none of which quickened her pulse.Copy !req
413. Now, all of a sudden,
she throws you in a cell.Copy !req
414. Why?Copy !req
415. I asked her to fight for your people.Copy !req
416. But that wasn't what provoked her anger,
was it?Copy !req
417. I demanded to speak with her father.Copy !req
418. The king in the tower,
whom no one has seen in years.Copy !req
419. See what happens when you stop galloping
and you give yourself a moment to think?Copy !req
420. Cease comparing me to a horse.Copy !req
421. Cease trying to convince me
to leave this island an you have a deal.Copy !req
422. Salutations, Elf.Copy !req
423. The Queen Regent
has rendered her decision.Copy !req
424. You are to be shipped back to the Elves
under armed escort. Tonight.Copy !req
425. Step forward.Copy !req
426. - I wouldn't advise that.
- I can't very well let her leave.Copy !req
427. - You could.Copy !req
428. If you knew exactly where she was going.Copy !req
429. What are you doing up here?Copy !req
430. I had a dinner.Copy !req
431. Who is he?Copy !req
432. Where's your uniform?Copy !req
433. Resigned from the cadets, did you?Copy !req
434. No, worse.Copy !req
435. You got dismissed?Copy !req
436. Got us all dismissed.Copy !req
437. Isil...Copy !req
438. Well, you've won. Now you can go west.Copy !req
439. I just ruined my friends' lives,Copy !req
440. shamed our family name.Copy !req
441. I don't deserve to go west.Copy !req
442. - Plus, Father won't let me take Berek.Copy !req
443. It's the Elf! She's escaped.Copy !req
444. Search every alley.Copy !req
445. Apologies, Your Majesty,
for the intrusion. But I...Copy !req
446. He no longer answers to that.Copy !req
447. How did you know I would come here?Copy !req
448. A garrison of troops awaits outside
to escort you to your ship.Copy !req
449. You would be wise to go willingly.Copy !req
450. Míriel.Copy !req
451. Míriel.Copy !req
452. I... I...Copy !req
453. - It's all right, Father. I'm here.Copy !req
454. Forgive me.Copy !req
455. I did not know.Copy !req
456. Few know the full extent of his decline.Copy !req
457. I should like to keep it that way.Copy !req
458. Then it is time for truth between us.Copy !req
459. Your father was loyal to the Elvish ways.Copy !req
460. Why are you not?Copy !req
461. Tell me.Copy !req
462. Please.Copy !req
463. My father was always restrained
in his beliefs.Copy !req
464. But after his coronation,
something changed.Copy !req
465. He became strident,Copy !req
466. proclaiming that we'd provoked
the anger of the Valar,Copy !req
467. and must repent,
and return to the old ways.Copy !req
468. There was unease.Copy !req
469. And when he announced plans
to renew relations with the Elves...Copy !req
470. The people rebelled.Copy !req
471. Much was lost.Copy !req
472. I was chosen to rule in his stead,Copy !req
473. with a promise to quell the storm.Copy !req
474. But that first night,
as all Númenor slept,Copy !req
475. he brought me here.Copy !req
476. Palantír.Copy !req
477. Seven Seeing Stones there once were.Copy !req
478. The other six either lost or hidden.Copy !req
479. This one was passed to my father.Copy !req
480. And with it, a secret.Copy !req
481. Place your hand upon it.Copy !req
482. - I must warn you...
- I have touched palantíri before.Copy !req
483. But you have not touched this one.Copy !req
484. It is Númenor's future you saw.Copy !req
485. Palantíri show many visions.Copy !req
486. Some that will never come to pass.Copy !req
487. It has already come to pass.Copy !req
488. The vision begins with your arrival.Copy !req
489. And you believe I will bring about
Númenor's downfall?Copy !req
490. Only Númenor can bring about her downfall.Copy !req
491. The Valar gifted us this isle
in a day of virtue.Copy !req
492. They can take it away should we turn
to the paths of darkness.Copy !req
493. The virtue you speak of
was your ancestors' loyalty to the Elves.Copy !req
494. My father believed that.Copy !req
495. His path nearly destroyed us.Copy !req
496. That is why, tomorrow,
I will announce that you are gone.Copy !req
497. And this crisis ended.Copy !req
498. If the evil rising in Middle-earth
is left unchecked,Copy !req
499. it will spread and take us all.Copy !req
500. Avoiding this war may be the very thing
that brings about your downfall.Copy !req
501. I will not second-guess the gods.
My decision is final.Copy !req
502. A decision based in fear.Copy !req
503. I know what it is to be the only one,Copy !req
504. the only one who sees,Copy !req
505. the only one who knows.Copy !req
506. Perhaps neither of us have
to bear that burden alone any longer.Copy !req
507. I beg of you, Míriel,
choose not the path of fear,Copy !req
508. but that of faith.Copy !req
509. Stand with me.Copy !req
510. Let Númenor fight
alongside the Elves once more.Copy !req
511. Faith may bind one heart, Galadriel.Copy !req
512. But it is too fine a thread
from which to hang a kingdom.Copy !req
513. I'm sorry.Copy !req
514. Woods are all bare. Animals are all fled.Copy !req
515. Seems your boy had more sense
than we allowed.Copy !req
516. Stand back.Copy !req
517. - Move out of the way. Stand back!
- Let the lad through!Copy !req
518. There's plenty. Slow down!Copy !req
519. Rowan! Where's Theo?Copy !req
520. He said he'd be right behind me.Copy !req
521. - Stop pushing!Copy !req
522. She pushed me!Copy !req
523. We've turned over every stone.Copy !req
524. He ain't back here.Copy !req
525. Where is he?Copy !req
526. He's not here!Copy !req
527. Let's go.Copy !req
528. Leave no stone unturned.Copy !req
529. Boss will skin us alive
if we don't find him.Copy !req
530. Boss is the one who lost him
in the first place.Copy !req
531. Izmûmbogh...Copy !req
532. Come on!Copy !req
533. Kishdibatoth! Kishdibatoth.Copy !req
534. Kishdibatoth.Copy !req
535. Find him!Copy !req
536. Nothin' here.Copy !req
537. Going somewhere,
young blood, are we?Copy !req
538. Where is it?Copy !req
539. No!Copy !req
540. Where have you got it?Copy !req
541. Maybe losing your arm
will loosen your lips.Copy !req
542. - Swiftly, lad.
- Over there! Get him!Copy !req
543. They are coming.Copy !req
544. Keep going.Copy !req
545. Run!Copy !req
546. Mother?Copy !req
547. Bronwyn.Copy !req
548. Run! Get to the clearing!Copy !req
549. What was that?Copy !req
550. It was a plea to the rocksCopy !req
551. to release the bodies of the miners
with breath still inside them.Copy !req
552. I cannot stop thinking
that if you'd not gone down there,Copy !req
553. Durin might have been
in that shaft when it...Copy !req
554. I'm sorry.Copy !req
555. I'm sorry I lied to you.Copy !req
556. You were faithful to my friend.Copy !req
557. - That is all we need remember.Copy !req
558. They just pulled out the last one.Copy !req
559. - Alive. All of them alive.Copy !req
560. Your father must be so relieved.Copy !req
561. He shut it down.Copy !req
562. The whole vein is to be sealed off.Copy !req
563. - The whole vein?
- All of it.Copy !req
564. Give him time.Copy !req
565. Even the hottest coals eventually cool.Copy !req
566. Yeah, but sometimes I wish they wouldn't.Copy !req
567. Sometimes I wish I could tell him
exactly what I think of him,Copy !req
568. and never trade words
with the old goat again!Copy !req
569. My father single-handedly
sailed to Valinor,Copy !req
570. and convinced the Valar to join the war
and vanquish Morgoth.Copy !req
571. So great were his deedsCopy !req
572. that the Valar lifted him
beyond the bounds of this world...Copy !req
573. To forever carry the Evening Star
across the sky.Copy !req
574. For many years, at day's end,
I would look up at it...Copy !req
575. Wondering what might he think
if he were watching me.Copy !req
576. Would he be proud
of what I've accomplished with his legacy?Copy !req
577. Or disappointed by the countless ways
I'd failed to live up to it?Copy !req
578. But then, one night, it struck meCopy !req
579. that I would be only too happy
to hear any judgment,Copy !req
580. so long as it granted me the opportunityCopy !req
581. to have but one more conversation
with my father.Copy !req
582. Do not waste
what time you have left with yours.Copy !req
583. Elrond, I was hopeful you might be able
to settle something.Copy !req
584. How is it that you and my husband met?Copy !req
585. I told you, I saved him from a hill-troll.Copy !req
586. - Two of 'em.
- Two of 'em. Yes, I know.Copy !req
587. Mmm-hmm.Copy !req
588. I was asking Elrond.Copy !req
589. Then I fear I have no choiceCopy !req
590. - but to amend your husband's account.Copy !req
591. There were three trolls.
And it was I who saved him.Copy !req
592. You wouldn't remember your face
if you were gazing in a mirror.Copy !req
593. When I came upon him
in the forest,Copy !req
594. he was in the midst
of dodging their mallet blows.Copy !req
595. - Wailing and screaming and such.
- It was a battle cry.Copy !req
596. The screams were so high-pitched,
I thought it was a child.Copy !req
597. So I took up my bow...Copy !req
598. - Uh, it was a sword.
- It was a bow.Copy !req
599. - Nah! It was a sword!
- Regardless...Copy !req
600. Forgive me, Father.Copy !req
601. I was proud and stubborn and I was wrong.Copy !req
602. Can you not even look at me?Copy !req
603. Our people believe...Copy !req
604. That when a new Dwarf-king is crowned,Copy !req
605. the voices of all his forebearers
flow into him,Copy !req
606. sharing with him their counselCopy !req
607. and wisdom.Copy !req
608. - Even their mistakes.Copy !req
609. But you...Copy !req
610. You need not wait for that day
to hear my voice.Copy !req
611. For, ever am I with you, my son.Copy !req
612. Even in anger.Copy !req
613. Sometimes, in anger most of all.Copy !req
614. There is nothing to forgive.Copy !req
615. Elrond has invited me
to go with him to Lindon tomorrow.Copy !req
616. Shall I accept?Copy !req
617. Elrond has been very convincing
in his assurancesCopy !req
618. that Gil-galad bore no ill intent
when he sent him here.Copy !req
619. Aye. He has.Copy !req
620. But intuition's a powerful tonic.Copy !req
621. What does yours tell you?Copy !req
622. There is something more at work.Copy !req
623. Good, my son.Copy !req
624. Good.Copy !req
625. Go to Lindon.Copy !req
626. Find out what.Copy !req
627. Thank you.Copy !req
628. What is it? What's wrong?Copy !req
629. I have a message.
From the one who commands our enemy.Copy !req
630. That your people may live
if you forsake all claim to these lands...Copy !req
631. And swear fealty to him.Copy !req
632. And if we refuse?Copy !req
633. He's coming for Ostirith.Copy !req
634. If you ask me, you deserve a nip
of mash after what you done.Copy !req
635. Go on, take it.Copy !req
636. Just like you took that hilt from me barn.Copy !req
637. Uh... I don't know what...Copy !req
638. Come off it, lad.Copy !req
639. You know of what I speak.Copy !req
640. Do you know what it is? It is no sword.Copy !req
641. It is a power.Copy !req
642. Fashioned for our ancestors
by his master's own hand.Copy !req
643. A beautiful servant.Copy !req
644. He who was lost, but shall return.Copy !req
645. Have you heard of him, lad?Copy !req
646. Have you heard of Sauron?Copy !req
647. You must have seen it in the skies.Copy !req
648. A few weeks back now.Copy !req
649. The starfall.Copy !req
650. It means his time is near.Copy !req
651. And it is to you and me, lad, to be ready.Copy !req
652. Ready for what?Copy !req
653. Hush now, lad.Copy !req
654. You save your strength.Copy !req
655. You'll need it.Copy !req
656. For what's coming.Copy !req
657. Lord-father...Copy !req
658. We found it.Copy !req
659. It's in the tower.Copy !req
660. Go in peace.Copy !req
661. Your people will be relieved.Copy !req
662. They will be gathering soon in the court,Copy !req
663. and in the plaza,
to hear your announcement.Copy !req
664. Then we ought not to keep them.Copy !req
665. The faithful believe that
when the petals of the White Tree fallCopy !req
666. it is no idle thing,Copy !req
667. but the very tears
of the Valar themselves,Copy !req
668. a living reminder that their eyes
and their judgment are ever upon us.Copy !req
669. There is a fateful hour
in the destinies of men.Copy !req
670. An hour of judgmentCopy !req
671. in which each of us, every one,Copy !req
672. must decide who we shall be.Copy !req
673. Are our hearts become
as the statues that surround our isle?Copy !req
674. Or do they yet beat with the blood
of the heroes that carved them?Copy !req
675. Is our valor confined to the graves
of our slumbering fathers?Copy !req
676. Or is it here,Copy !req
677. amongst us even now...Copy !req
678. Waiting to burst forth as the rising Sun?Copy !req
679. I would neither command, nor invite you
to any danger I myself would not face.Copy !req
680. And so, I've decided to personally
escort the Elf back to Middle-earth.Copy !req
681. To aid our mortal brethren
who are now besieged in the Southlands.Copy !req
682. Your queen
has laid bare her intent.Copy !req
683. Our ships will depart in ten days.Copy !req
684. The expeditionary force will be made up
of brave sons and daughtersCopy !req
685. from across fair Númenor.Copy !req
686. Who is willing to commit themselves
to our Queen Regent's protection?Copy !req
687. Step forward and make yourself known.Copy !req
688. I will serve.Copy !req
689. I will serve.Copy !req
690. I will serve.Copy !req
691. I will serve!Copy !req
692. I will serve!Copy !req
