6. When pushed to the limits of human endurance,

11. In 21st century Britain, old fashioned ideas

12. about men and women, have disappeared,

13. and traditional gender roles have become blurred.

14. Women are often expected to do it all,

15. combining child care with excelling at work.

18. it's really, really embarrassing and unprofessional.

23. To find out, I'm abandoning 14 ordinary women

24. to fend for themselves on a remote desert island.

25. - A huge (beep) snake came towards me!

31. - That is the biggest yucca I've ever seen.

83. I think it's only by pushing yourself to these

84. extremes that you get

85. to find out who you truly are.

90. kill an animal and I know I can survive,

119. This is the closest I can get the boat to the shoreline.

124. and the thing to remember

203. To make sure they have a fighting chance at survival,

204. I've ensured there's enough water, indigenous animals,

205. and vegetation to keep them alive

206. but only if they have the ingenuity to find it,

207. catch it, and kill it.

208. I've dropped the group in the most inhospitable part

209. of the island.

210. There's unforgiving jungle,

211. and deadly creatures all around.

212. Now, just two hours before sunset,

213. the group need to move away as quickly as they can.

216. I need to find that peaceful moment where I can just wee,

217. but the thing is, I'm weein,

223. and take all the kit up this slope, basically.

240. and just one days supply of drinking water.

339. to attack when they're surprised.

345. and just pretend you're walkin through some lovely area

346. of a botanical garden.

354. They've identified a valuable source of carbohydrate.

371. the women are no closer to finding a beach to set up camp.

377. - I really, really do feel like I want to get out

378. of this area,

379. because I feel like we've made absolutely zero progress.

382. making me quite anxious and stressin me out.

383. - 14 British women have been abandoned

384. on a remote Pacific island,

385. with nothing but the clothes to stand up in,

386. and a few basic tools. (machete chopping)

388. - What I wanna find out is, has all of this cushioning

389. that civilization has experienced,

390. has it made us totally lose touch with

391. that survival instinct that I believe is deep within us all.

392. - With night closing in,

393. the women have decided to abandon their search for a beach,

394. and set up camp in the jungle,

395. taking their chances with the deadly critters.

396. - Strength isn't an outward thing, it's an inner thing,

397. it's an inner quality,

398. and whether you're a man or a woman,

399. you can have that.

400. It's about how you react to the hardship.

405. - I just got changed

409. - If the women are to survive,

410. they'll need to live through six weeks

411. of the tropical storm season.

412. At it's worse, the torrential rain can dump up

413. to an inch of water in an hour.

414. - My current nickers and trousers are wet through,

415. so I feel like I've wet myself a bit,

416. or that I'm wearing a shitty nappy.

417. - I have dry socks though, which are

418. in my bra.

419. Keeping even dryer. (women laughing)

420. - Yeah, that's a good idea.

421. - Without shelter, the only protection

422. the women have from the elements,

423. is their raincoats and ponchos.

424. - It's absolutely hideous.

425. It's gonna get dark soon. - Oh, yeah.

426. And that will mean that there's no heat at all,

427. so we will go to bed

428. cold and damp,

429. and we'll have

430. to sleep on a cold (steady percussive music)

431. and damp jungle floor.

432. - (sniffs) Look at my fuckin hands.

437. - Seven p.m., and the women are determined

438. to get a fire started.

439. - If you can find another tree with some of that, great,

440. but that'll burn very, very quickly.

443. but I'm trying to, actually,

444. not even think about it.

445. That's what I'm trying to do at the moment.

446. Just focus on what's going on,

447. and not focus about the dark,

448. because if we don't get a fire and we sit down, awful.

449. - After just two days survival training,

450. Beki, Georgie, and their team,

451. have made a bow and drill.

457. should create enough friction to produce a burning ember.

649. in oppressive 30 degree heat,

684. - I actually just thought we'd find some idealic beach

685. within 24 hours, but actually the reality is,

686. we're actually only something like, oh, god,

687. a few hundred meters away from where we jumped out

688. of the stupid boat.

689. So right now I feel a bit of a failure.

690. - I can't believe we can't get out of here.

691. - The whole notion of surviving

692. on a tropical island may sound idealic,

693. but the reality behind

694. the picture postcard fantasy is brutal,

695. and it may look like paradise, but trying to survive

696. on an island like that,

697. really can be hell on earth.

995. in which we find ourselves.

1007. You know, one minute you're gonna have scorching sunshine,

1008. the next thunder, lightening, torrential rain,

1009. and in these sort of extreme conditions,

1010. even the thickest jungle canopy

1011. is gonna give you precious little protection.

1012. Seven a.m., it's day four on the island.

1013. At their temporary camp, the night of torrential rain,

1014. has also had a disastrous consequence

1015. for the five women left behind.

1016. - The fire went out last night,

1017. because of the weather.

1018. All the kind of wood and everything we need was wet,

1019. so when we put it on the fire, it just (laughs)

1020. it just made the fire die. (laughing)

1021. It's just gone out.

1022. - The situation, is critical.

1023. Without fire, the group have lost their only means

1024. of purifying the water from the muddy puddle.

1025. They're now down to capturing rain water,

1026. in Beth's poncho.

1027. - This is what we're resorting to now.

1029. - On the other side of the island,

1030. the expedition party is also having

1031. to rely on an alternative source of hydration.

1032. - These coconuts, are making my bowels

1034. So, I'm gonna have to go and look for somewhere

1039. scouring the area for a sustainable water source.

1062. that we're gonna get absolutely fucked and dehydrated.

1064. but we've made a plan so we've gotta stick to it.

1065. - Navigating under thick jungle canopy is always

1066. gonna be difficult.

1067. It's gonna be unpredictable, you don't get reference points,

1068. you don't got the sun to guide you,

1069. and embarking on a journey like that in 30 degree heat,

1070. with no water, really, you're on borrowed time.
