1. - This video has actually been painfully long

2. and painfully like just a struggle

3. and that's what's made it different

4. than any other project I've ever done.

5. It really feels more like an actual theatrical movie

6. that takes you know six or nine months to film.

7. And I mean that's how long it's taken us.

8. But once you get to this point

9. a whole other set of work starts.

10. The edit process, the marketing process,

11. and that's one of the cool reasons I'm actually

12. going to Forza at Microsoft today

13. to actually see the truck coming to life in the video game.

14. And that's incredible.

15. Wow, look at this person.

16. - Wow what a boner! Holy Crap!

17. - And now I think they backed into the curb.

18. - Oh, no!

19. - They did, they backed into the curb.

20. - What a moron.

21. - Chaos on four wheels

22. is a little bit difficult to get right.

23. So I'd love to get your opinion.

24. Where do you think we have room for improvement?

25. - So how do I get to the open area?

27. and hook a right, it should take you to an airfield.

39. That's where this, it feels a bit more under-steery.

42. differentials in particular the center.

47. - So I like this little straightaway.

48. I was just thinking like does this feel like

49. what it's like to accelerate this thing.

50. Honestly, I tell you it feels pretty good,

51. but it isn't— it's actually more violent.

52. - Yeah. - The real car is more violent.

53. I've been playing car video games, you know,

54. since I was a kid, and now I get to go to a place

55. like Forza and see one of our creations

56. come to life inside a video game.

57. It's really cool.

63. - So, these are the last two days of filming Gymkhana.

64. I'm not really like that much of a sentimental person

65. when it comes to this kind of stuff.

66. It's like, let's just move on to the next thing but

67. I know what the plans are moving forward

68. for what we are gonna continue to film with Ken.

69. I don't think there'll ever be a shoot like this again.

75. In Gymkhana 10, we're coming

76. right out of Los Angeles into this,

77. and L.A. is a bit slower, kind of more

78. like tighter moves, so I want this to be like a lot faster.

79. It's difficult 'cause like I want to

80. have a few of the more like what Ken

81. would refer to as like Gymkhana moments.

82. We could start like right there...

83. just right around that corner,

84. come and then slide this corner up the hill

85. and then turn right at the top.

86. - Wrong way, right? - Yeah.

87. - Police-wise we will be fine because

88. - this is 7:00 a.m. Saturday. - Yeah.

89. I hate doing the tech scouts with all of

90. the producers because they just want

91. to know like when's it start and stop,

92. what bumps need to be taken out

93. and it doesn't give you the time

94. to kind of like just sit there

95. and you know, like re-think it.

96. The sweet spot for him to land would be

97. right where the CX-5 is right now.

98. - Right there. That would be the money?

99. - Yeah.

100. - I almost think like— - Further back?

101. - We'll be between 20 and 24 feet long.

102. You want the option of trying to raise it a little too?

103. - Yeah. - Okay, so if it starts ...

104. - I mean that's what happened last time

105. was we didn't build the, we built the suite

106. and stopped thinking he didn't want it

107. to be any bigger and then he wanted to be bigger.

109. - Sometimes you get so caught up in

110. the like, okay we got to close this road

112. We've got to pull out, you know, this sign

113. or Greek out that sign over there

114. and sometimes you forget like what you're

115. there for which is like finding the best moment of action.

117. You would come up this road, throw it in

118. like kind of reverse entry into

119. where these tables won't be when you do that.

122. A lot of times I don't hang out with

123. the crews because I'm just trying

124. to stay focused on the job at hand.

125. - To surviving another week in this town.

126. - But on this one, I actually found

127. I was going out every night with the crew,

128. going and eating with them and going

129. and walking around town because I think

130. there's that like, man even though I'm

131. gonna see those guys on other shoots

132. and stuff like that, this will never be the same.

134. Okay yeah, just throw the flashers on and walk back up.

137. I think he's already reached panic mode

138. and like, it's not even like 8:15 yet.

139. Hey guys, how you guys doing?

140. - I've already had my car lost once today.

141. They couldn't find it.

142. - For a minute there I thought you

143. were drinking a long drink.

144. I was like, damn, Matt's in the mood. (laughs)

145. - I've never actually tried to get around this city.

146. - That's what Derek said.

147. Derek was like, I've never been here.

148. Like, I've been to all the rallies,

149. like I never actually get here.

150. - Well, the first time I ever came here was in 2006

151. with both Travis and Ken racing here.

152. In the United States it was really strict,

153. like you do not speed on transits.

154. If you're caught speeding in Rally America,

155. you're disqualified, that's it.

156. Like, if you get a speeding ticket, you lose the race.

157. That's how like Travis and Ken are thinking.

158. So, Lucy and I are standing at some spot

159. and we were seeing Travis coming down

160. and he's, you know, sitting at like 55 miles an hour

161. on the road and all of a sudden Sebastian Loeb

162. passes him at like 120 on the shoulder, half on the dirt.

163. You just see like Travis drop three gears

164. and just go chasing him.

165. Then after that I think it became these guys' favorite

166. rally because the police want them to drive like that.

167. If you come into a roundabout and the Federales are

168. standing there, and you don't slide it, they're booing you.

169. - And everyone on their pickup truck with like 15 people

170. will just cheer like if you're going fast.

171. - So we'd be down here, you know, covering the rally

172. and chasing the rally, and we'd have the official

173. rally stickers on the rental cars, which also meant

174. that we were allowed to do whatever we wanted.

175. Derek sent me this last night.

176. - This was Mexico. - This is a rental car.

177. - This is a rental car chasing in Mexico.

178. - Then I would post rental car pictures on social media

179. and then Derek would be like, take it down.

180. - Mexico will always have that like special place

181. for us in the team because it was this like major moment

182. where we went from this American race team

183. to we are going to try the WRC, and we actually

184. proved to be somewhat successful at the first event.

185. - This is a good corner right here.

186. I just hope the cobblestone smokes up as much.

187. - It won't, though.

188. - Just got to bleach the fuck out of the tires.

189. - I've always said that, just let them

190. fucking soak the night before in bleach.

191. You say that to race car people like

192. Derek and he's like mate, mate.

193. I love this place because it's connected

194. to where this all started for us.

195. - Really quite cool and I think the highest

196. placing I ever had in the WRC, like seventh

197. overall or something, was in this race.

198. To come back to where it basically started for me

199. and do this video part, it's really quite cool.

200. Okay, so in the city of GTO, they use these very ornate

201. stanchions on the side of the road because

202. obviously pedestrians are walking on the road.

203. Obviously, they're made out of steel.

204. If the car hit it's just big, like, just not good.

205. We need to have them in one of the shots, but can

206. we figure out a way of making them out of

207. something else so they don't kill us?

208. So over here, we have Juan Carlos

209. and we have Ricardo.

210. This is the initial process, which is latex right?

211. So you apply the latex to it, let the latex set,

212. put a hard coat of fiberglass over the latex.

213. We put, basically, the mold together again,

214. inject it with foam, and then let it set,

215. and then open the mold again and boom.

216. We've got like an identical one of these in foam.

217. - When we first came scouting in GTO,

218. about a month ago, this ramp was set up in the square.

219. When we came back, it had been disassembled.

220. It was brought to this yard.

221. It's got diamond plate on the top, which

222. is what Ken loves for traction, and then

223. I'm gonna have the guys at the shop here

224. custom weld new legs for us, but they'll

225. be adjustable too so we can literally

226. lift the ramp up, put a peg through it,

227. and we can raise it up and then keep doing that

228. till you know we get a big, big jump out of him.

229. It's gonna be like San Francisco

230. when he hit Russian Hill.

231. He said he was gonna do about 135 feet and holy shit.

232. He ended up doing like 170 feet.

233. We thought he was gonna be maybe six feet off the ground.

234. He was like eight feet off the ground.

235. It was insane and I've never seen anything like it.

236. He just drove over all the GoPros.

237. We see these GoPros flying everywhere.

238. I'm getting pretty nostalgic about it actually.

239. You keep thinking oh well then we're going

240. to the next city and oh yeah after this one

241. we're going next and we're gonna scout there.

242. You just feel like it keeps going

243. and going and going but we're, this is it.

245. You could probably definitely get some footage

246. of me crying later if you want.

247. I might be wearing the glasses but

248. I'll be crying on the inside for sure.

249. - The rain days are the worst because

250. you're just sitting and kind of like waiting.

251. You go to sleep the night before and you're like

252. get up, visualize what you're going to do

253. and then you get up and you're like, or not.

254. - My fear is that if we're not here at the market soon enough,

258. is most of the city drains into the tunnels.

259. So, we're supposed to shoot tunnels first up today

260. and even if it's dry, the tunnels might still be wet.

261. I mean yesterday it was dry but it

262. was still too wet to drive.

263. - The good news is all the parking is open.

264. So all the cars are gone. It's a good start.

265. - Margin of error here is so small

266. because all the roads are really narrow

267. and the curbs are really high.

268. We were already concerned on just it being dry.

269. There's not a single thing here

270. that doesn't have like a day-ending consequence.

271. - So it's thumbs up in fifteen minutes?

272. Do you want to put some money on it?

312. so it doesn't fuck up the ramp again,

314. because it was really cool the way you did it.

450. was impressive and then Ken just drove amazingly.

478. we had, Mexico was the most seamless shoot

511. towards these stilted houses and back into another tunnel.

514. the tunnel actions here and then we have our last

515. bit of action will be a tunnel jump up in the hills.

554. some Rallycross, doing some stage rally.

555. He absolutely wants to slow down a little bit.

556. His kids are getting older.

557. They're real humans, they can converse.

561. a handful of projects in terms of video stuff every year

566. It's like, you know, your favorite band

567. may still play with a different bassist or

568. a different vocalist or whatever and it's still your

569. favorite band, but it's not your favorite band anymore.
