The Boss 1x8

1. Hey, lady, hold on. I think you're forgetting something.

2. - Yeah, sorry. - Sorry? What sorry?

3. Yeah, I didn't bring a bag.

4. And your little dog pooped on my sidewalk.

5. Well, problem solved, I brought a bag. Pick it up. Come on, it's easy.

6. If it's that easy, you do it.

7. Yes, you're right, I could pick it up. But I won't, and you know why?

8. Because I'm into the civic duty of teaching.

9. What if everyone acted like you and no one told them anything?

10. What if people abandoned one of these in each street?

11. This block has four streets, one times four equals four.

12. Any idea how many streets there are in the city?

13. No.

14. It's 12,000, and times four, it equals 48,000 per day.

15. So, we're going to be covered in shit just because the lady

16. didn't want to clean up when it was time. Come on, love, clean it up.

17. Bummer.

18. Very good, young lady.

19. You see? When people do what they must, our country wins.

20. Take it as a lesson, you won't learn this at school or at home.

21. What a rebel young lady. (chuckles)

22. - Eliseo. - Hey, Doctor, how can I help?

23. Sorry I'm asking you this.

24. You're an interested party, but it's still your duty—

25. Asking me what?

26. It's a call for a meeting to vote on the pool.

27. - Very good, and what would that be? - The project itself, drawings, vendors...

28. You have to distribute one folder per apartment

29. with the meeting call. I already have one.

30. The actual name is "building renovation and functional modernization project".

31. - Nice name. - (sighs) Well, it's a big swimming pool.

32. It's 12.5 meters long, an actual pool to swim.

33. I imagine it's going to be heated too.

34. - No, it's communal. - While you were at it...

35. You're right, but people are very stingy.

36. You can't get a penny from them, not even with a gun to their heads.

37. Well, it's a large investment, right?

38. It's not approved yet, but everything's ready.

39. Don't worry, once it's approved, you'll be payed what you're entitled to,

40. and then you'll have a month to move out of the apartment.

41. Thank you for always being honest with me, Doctor. I appreciate it.

42. Motherfuckers...

43. THE BOSS

44. Hey, are you going on a trip?

45. Yes, two weeks in Europe. We sold a keeper to Spain, to Alavés,

46. so we're going to visit.

47. - You're not here for the pool voting? - Yes, we're back the day before.

48. Listen, Eliseo, we're voting for the pool, but don't take it as an offense.

49. You don't have to explain, Hugo.

50. I love summer, so I'm not against a pool.

51. First thing we're doing in Spain is go to the beach.

52. Do you know the Costa Brava?

53. No, I'm afraid I haven't traveled much in my life.

54. I'm actually depressed by Argentinean tourists abroad,

55. it's nothing against you, but that's how I feel.

56. What?

57. No, it was nothing, just a joke.

58. Good luck with the trip and the keeper.

59. - Good luck, Eliseo. - You too, very kind, bye.

60. - See you. - Bye, miss, nice to see you.

61. When will they change these elevators from 1492?

62. The owners have other priorities, Rubino.

63. - Why? - They're building a pool.

64. Oh, well, more dirt. It gives you more work.

65. For me, it takes away instead of giving.

66. This equipment needs to be replaced sooner or later.

67. I already told you they are very bad,

68. but it's true that the cost can be crazy.

69. - How much are we talking about? - I'll have to find out,

70. but if everything was replaced,

71. it could turn out to be around 100 or 120 thousand,

72. - (both sigh) each one, this and the main one.

73. So, 250,000 for everything.

74. (scoffs) Expensive. If one breaks, they'll have to forget about the pool.

75. It's 12.5 meters long.

76. An actual pool to swim.

77. DANGER

78. Fucking hell.

79. - How are you doing, Doctor Zambrano? - Did you hear the explosion?

80. - No. What explosion? - The explosion before the power outage.

81. It came from downstairs.

82. There is a power outage? Sorry, I'm not in the building.

83. I'm in the basement, I want to find out what happened.

84. We heard the noise upstairs. What a terrible smell, it's here.

85. Where?

86. In the engine room, I think something burned down.

87. Don't touch anything, be careful, please.

88. Didn't the technician, Rubino, came in today?

89. Yes, he did, and he mentioned something like that could happen.

90. - I'm coming, stay calm. - Okay, I'll wait down here.

91. - What happened, Doctor? - There you are.

92. This shit exploded, it's the elevator engine.

93. Tell Rubino to come here immediately.

94. It's 11 p. m. No technician will come this late.

95. Goddammit...

96. - Call him right now. - I'll tell him to come tomorrow morning.

97. And where were you?

98. - I went to pick some food. - Oh.

99. - Where's the food? - What?

100. You said you went to pick some food, where is it?

101. I told them to prepare it while I came here. I'll pick it up later.

102. I'm going to try and override the circuit so the lights come back

103. and we can use the service elevator. What do you think?

104. Yes, do that. Tell Rubino to come in early tomorrow.

105. Yes, I'll tell him right now. (heavy sigh) Oh, God.

106. The program for people under electronic surveillance

107. is not a holiday camp, lady. You committed to monitoring him.

108. POLICE

109. Yes, officer, you're right, but I was reading peacefully in bed

110. when suddenly the lights went out. Then, I woke up and he was gone.

111. Old dog...

112. - Salustri. - It's general to you, private.

113. Do you want to mop the bathrooms with your tongue?

114. Or maybe try Major Minicucci's submarine?

115. How many times did you make people do it, you old prick?

116. Let's go to the station.

117. Be more careful next time, miss.

118. - Good night. - Thank you so much.

119. (sighs) Well, well.

120. That's it. That's it.

121. I don't know how to thank you.

122. There's no need, you know I'm always here.

123. I already know you're always there.

124. Well, I don't know if I'm always gonna be.

125. Ah. You're talking about the pool. Don't worry, I'm against that.

126. Thank you, now go back to your brother, it's late.

127. - Go, go. Come on, come on.

128. - Come on, dear. Stand up, General.

129. - Come on! Up, hearts up.

130. There you are, good. Let's go.

131. There we are, slowly.

132. Who's that crook, then? Why did you sign it?

133. I'm just saying. I'm just telling you to not make waves,

134. don't make waves, a deterrent call. Stop, stop. Hold on for a moment.

135. No, do not lift...

136. - Good morning. - Good morning, miss.

137. The main elevator is out of order. You'll have to take the service one.

138. What a mess. In fact, I wanted to move to Haras,

139. in San Agustin, not here.

140. Facundo needs to be in the capital because of his job.

141. Sure.

142. - At least, they're building a pool, right? - Yes, only the voting is pending.

143. - It hasn't been voted yet? No.

144. It hope it does soon. We wanted to enjoy it with Faustino.

145. Of course, it makes sense.

146. Kids and swimming pools give me the shivers with all of these crazy news.

147. Moms get distracted for a second and their baby's found at the bottom.

148. - (quirky theme music plays) - (chuckles) Terrible.

149. - What? - It's just a thing I've read. Don't worry.

150. You asshole... Nothing happens if you don't set the hook.

151. Well, whatever, call that crook,

152. tell him to fix everything and call me later.

153. How's everything, Rubino?

154. I'm surprised, I thought the engine would hold longer.

155. You've been saying this for so long,

156. that the elevators are from 1492, that they needed to be changed.

157. It was bound to happen. Natural wear.

158. - We'll see. - Wait. Uh...

159. We've know each other for 20 years now, right?

160. Whatever you find out, if they ask, it was natural wear, okay?

161. Come on.

162. You didn't see anything yesterday?

163. I've been telling you to change these elevators for a long time.

164. This was bound to happen sooner or later.

165. - Natural wear. - Fucking hell.

166. This is the situation...

167. The main elevator's engine and board are burned.

168. We're lucky only one of them burned.

169. Yes, but you have to change both.

170. When the old one burns, the new one will burn too.

171. They share systems.

172. - Really? Yes.

173. With new engines, you can't have a 1960's system.

174. You need new chassis and cabs, the drive system, shock absorbers...

175. This will require refurbishment of the two elevator shafts

176. and installing automatic doors in every floor.

177. There's no way around it. Doing it halfway is a waste.

178. - Fuck, how much are we talking about? - I'll have to find out,

179. but I can give you a good deal with the labor cost.

180. - (theme music plays) You got a little out of hand,

181. change all the engines, traction system, everything new.

182. If we're going to lie, let's do it good.

183. Natural wear, please.

184. Anyone that looks at the control board will know it's been messed with.

185. Someone bypassed both terminals, it was intentional.

186. - Slow down. - I'll keep silent, it suits me,

187. it's very expensive to change the entire system.

188. Perfect, let's keep going then,

189. we won't say anything. Bring the budget as soon as possible.

190. - Okay, see you. - Okay.

191. Very good.

192. Hi, Paola, how are you? - Fine, and you?

193. - Very good. - I couldn't talk to Andrea about the pool,

194. - but when she's back, I'll do it. - Thank you, but you don't have to.

195. I'll do what I can to keep you from losing your job.

196. I don't want you to leave.

197. I'm not gone yet, so make the most out of me.

198. That's true. Do you want to come with me— us, to the square?

199. - Or maybe you're very busy. - No, no,

200. I'm actually free. Let me tell Miguel. Hold on.

201. - Okay. - Okay.

202. - Hello. - Yes?

203. - I'm the elevator technician. - No.

204. - You've got it wrong. - It's fine, it was me.

205. - Hello, I'm Doctor Zambrano. - Hello, I'm Serafini.

206. - Thank you for coming. - Nice to meet you.

207. We're not making the owners' association pay without a second opinion.

208. - No, it makes sense. Come on in, Serafini.

209. - To the right. - I'll go with you.

210. Sorry, Paola, I'm tied.

211. - Oh, well. - See you.

212. What a relic. - Yes, they're old.

213. Yes they need to be replaced. - Yes.

214. Hm.

215. - Excuse me. - Of course, sorry.

216. What happened here? - What?

217. There's something odd here.

218. The other technician said it was natural wear.

219. Someone bypassed the board,

220. it seems intentional to me.

221. - That's very serious. - Very serious, Doctor.

222. Eliseo, can you come with me?

223. - Yes. Just a moment.

224. What happened here?

225. I don't think it was someone from the building.

226. Yes, but not everyone can do a bypass,

227. you heard him, it was intentional.

228. If it's going to cost that much, we have to file a report with the police

229. and start an official investigation. This is no joke.

230. I totally agree.

231. I'm not so crazy anymore, huh?

232. About my idea of installing cameras.

233. Isn't that true? People do whatever they want here

234. and we can't know who comes in our out.

235. It could be someone from outside... or from the building.

236. I'll carry on with my duties.

237. - Eliseo, excuse me, - Yes.

238. but I was thinking...

239. - You went to pick some food? - Yes.

240. At what time did you exactly go out?

241. Around 10 or 10:15 p. m.

242. And where did you go? - To Don Felipe's taproom,

243. It's not very good but...

244. - No big deal, but it delivers. Eh. Don Felipe?

245. They make some delicious scrambled eggs.

246. So, it took you five minutes to get there. What did you order?

247. Chicken cordon bleu and noisette potatoes.

248. And you came back by 11 p. m. with no food.

249. - An hour for a cordon bleu? - And the potatoes.

250. They make them one by one with a little spoon.

251. I know I shouldn't order them because they take so much time to make,

252. but they are very tempting. (chuckles)

253. So, you came empty-handed? You couldn't even bring the cordon bleu?

254. No, you called and I ran out.

255. Um-hm. Did you go back to get it afterwards?

256. - No, it was late so I canceled it. Late? No way.

257. You had time to go back and get it, so what happened?

258. - Did you lose your appetite? - Yes.

259. You didn't eat?

260. I ate something from the refrigerator, some artichokes.

261. Artichokes? That's strange! It's not artichoke season.

262. I don't like your idea of an internal sabotage, Doctor.

263. I don't think it could be...

264. What do you mean? - I was thinking about someone...

265. Who?

266. Miguel.

267. - Why would Miguel do something like that? - He was very unhappy with his salary

268. and, when he found out about the project, I heard him say,

269. "They pay me peanuts and they're going to fire me."

270. He was very odd, I would say resentful.

271. Maybe he took revenge, I don't know.

272. - That little shit, I'm going to— - No, Doctor,

273. first we have to make sure it was him.

274. I promise you I'm going to talk to him about this

275. and, if I find out it was him, you'll be the first one to know.

276. Okay, but before kicking him out, I'll beat him up.

277. Canned, Doctor.

278. - What? - I forgot, the artichokes were canned.

279. - Ah, Miguel. - Yes, Eliseo?

280. - So far and no further. - What's wrong?

281. After all I did for you, I guessed you wouldn't dare to lie to my face.

282. What did I lie about?

283. About the elevator, I never thought you would do that.

284. What? I don't get what you're saying.

285. - Don't laugh in my face. No! I'm not.

286. We all know it was you the one who burned the elevator engine.

287. - What? - I heard you talking to the technician

288. about the elevator breaking down and them having to forget about the pool.

289. - And coincidentally the elevator broke. No,

290. it was just an expression, I would never do such a thing,

291. how could I? You know how I am.

292. There's no point in discussing it. I'm not the one who believes you did it.

293. Then who?

294. The president of the owners' association, the property manager...

295. Let's just leave it like this.

296. No, but I can speak to them and tell them it wasn't me.

297. Don't do it, you can get into trouble, you could get arrested.

298. This is a very delicate situation, trust me.

299. - I think it's better if we kick you out. - Eliseo, don't do this to me.

300. - Don't leave me unemployed, please. - Look, please,

301. you came to work today, don't come back tomorrow.

302. - It's best for everyone. - Eliseo! Eliseo!

303. Hello, Eliseo, it's me.

304. Fuck, there's things you can't do,

305. you crossed the line, there's no going back now.

306. You're such a piece of shit. You don't care about anything.

307. There's something wrong with you. You're such a piece of shit.

308. It's true.

309. I am.

310. Hey, Mario,

311. yes, yes, I'm coming. Yes, yes.

312. Eliseo, come in.

313. Come in, we want to tell you something.

314. Yes, Doctor, Mario, tell me about it.

315. Did you talk to Miguel?

316. Yes, and he obviously denied everything.

317. It wasn't him, we know everything.

318. It was so obvious, I don't know how we didn't see it.

319. What didn't you see?

320. You already know. - I do?

321. Yes, you do. Come on,

322. who's the son of a bitch who would want to fuck with us?

323. Someone who's always been right in front of us.

324. Who, Eliseo? Tell us. Come on.

325. Someone who is not ashamed when he looks us in the eye,

326. even after we've given him a job for so many years.

327. We're not stupid, right? You're not stupid either.

328. Who?

329. - Rubino. Rubino, Eliseo, Rubino.

330. - Rubino? Yes, think about it.

331. Matías found out.

332. Technicians don't want elevators to last a lifetime.

333. That's why they charge so little for maintenance,

334. because sometimes they break them on purpose so they can say,

335. "It's natural wear, give me money." I'm not giving him shit.

336. He's not working anymore anywhere.

337. Mario will inform every owners' association

338. so no one will fucking hire him ever again.

339. - Don't worry, I'll take care of it. - No, I can't believe what you're saying.

340. - He thought he could screw with us. - Right, that's it.

341. You're brilliant.

342. What about Miguel? I have to let him know before he takes the bus.

343. Miguel!

344. Eliseo, are you alright?

345. - (panting) Come back. - Did I forget something?

346. I mean tomorrow. Come back tomorrow.

347. I'm going to trust you. I was just talking to Zambrano and Messina

348. and I've told them it wasn't you.

349. I had to argue with them, but I stood my ground.

350. - Are you for real? - Thirty years of service are no joke.

351. I exploded.

352. They said that, if I put myself on the line for you,

353. the only possible suspect is Rubino. So, I want you tomorrow here.

354. - It's alright. - (chuckles): I'm really thankful.

355. - I'm not going to disappoint you, I swear. I know.

356. See you tomorrow.

357. - See you tomorrow. Thank you, Eliseo. - (chuckles): Bye.

358. Nice. Nice, Eliseo, nice.

359. What are you doing here, Doctor?

360. What a view you've got here, you bastard.

361. From my window, I see a building and a fat guy on a stationary bike.

362. Excuse my language, but Rubino is a son of a bitch.

363. Tell me about it.

364. At least, the new technician said that there's no need to change everything.

365. (heavy sigh) Rubino made it all up

366. (soft chuckle) so he could charge us more. Son of a bitch, I'll beat him up.

367. But we have to replace the engine, the entire main elevator board...

368. We're fucked. These are German spare parts, they are very expensive.

369. We haven't got enough money for everything.

370. We'll have to put off the pool project.

371. Aw. Oh, how terrible, Doctor.

372. (blows smoke) We'll do it someday. Goddammit.

373. I don't like seeing you like that. The pool thing, so sad.

374. What a view, my God, so beautiful.

375. THE BOSS
