But she tells him he that must prove himself to her first but does agree to help him get back to the other animals. They eventually find that the animals have taken two paths. The two foxes each take a path and agree that whosever is on the wrong path will head back to join the other. While following their own path both Fox and Vixen hear the cry of the hunt and it is on the trail of Vixen. Fox makes it halfway up to the top of a steep hill where the rest of the animals are but runs back down to draw the hunt away from Vixen. He succeeds but only for a while as they give up when he escapes back up the hill. Fox is devastated to realise that poor Vixen may not make it as she is exhausted and collapses. A huntsmen is edging his horse on to trample on her when all of a sudden Adder appears. She bites the horse's leg, causing it to rear back and stumble down the hill, letting Vixen escape to

5. The voles and field mice elected to stay behind with their new born babies...

6. but a butcher bird took the infants.

7. So their parents sadly agreed to join us once more.

9. Many whispered that such disaster would not have happened

10. had Fox been with us.

11. But was he even alive?

12. I've not hunted for ages. - Because of the oath, I suppose.

13. Yes. Nice to be back to normal.

14. Have it all, I'm not really hungry.

15. Foxes hunt but they're also hunted.

16. Has it happened to you?

17. No, but I've often heard the horn blow.

18. I suppose it will be my turn one day.

19. No, I'm here now.

20. I'll protect you. - Thank you.

21. But what you're already doing is so noble.

22. You think so? - I do.

23. Such restraint to protect the weaker animals you would normally hunt.

24. And to lead them on a journey.

25. Noble?

26. I hadn't looked at it quite like that before.

27. How had you looked at it? - As a nuisance.

28. I wish I could stay with you.

29. You couldn't desert the other animals.

30. But I'll keep you company. At least 'til you've found them again.

31. It's just that I've never met a creature quite like you before.

32. And I just like to... - What is it?

33. The owl reminded me of someone.

34. Owl, have you seen Fox's friends?

35. Not many foxes in the woods these days.

36. No, not foxes.

37. A party of all kinds of creatures, travelling together.

38. A toad, a kestrel, a mole, rabbits, mice.

39. An owl.

40. Now you mention it, I did have a lenghty conversation

41. with another owl recently.

42. Claimed they were travelling to some nature reserve, if you please.

43. Was there a badger with them?

44. Well, now you've come to mention it.

45. He's safe?

46. Large as life.

47. Which direction were they heading for?

48. Your owl was rather obscure about that.

49. Sounds familiar.

50. They can't be far away.

51. What are you waiting for?

52. The sooner I find them, the sooner I lose you.

53. Come on.

54. This way, mateys.

55. Keep close together now.

56. No stragglers, can't take any chances with that...

57. butcher bird still about.

58. Kestrel? - It's quite safe.

59. No sign of him. And the copse is in sight.

60. Thank goodness for that.

61. Badger?

62. What is it, Moley?

63. Can I get down, please?

64. Whatever for?

65. Well, I just think I'd like to walk for a change.

66. Just hold on, Moley.

67. Not much further.

68. But Toad's managing. Even without Fox to ride on.

69. And I'm sure if he can, I can.

70. Wait 'til we get to the top, there's a good chap.

71. Yes, but...

72. Do stop pulling Mole, just stay put.

73. You're no trouble, you know.

74. Badger!

75. In fact, I hardly notice you're there.

76. Oh, dear.

77. Of course, if it wasn't for us rabbits all this grass would be sky high.

78. I thought it was the sheep who kept it down.

79. Oh no, I don't see any sheep.

80. Do you see any sheep? See, it's rabbits.

81. Well I always thought rabbits must be some use

82. but I couldn't think for the life of me what it was.

83. Oh, dear.

84. Looks like Moley's lost his transport.

85. Poor little Moley's lost his way. - Oh, shut up.

86. I say, Badger.

87. Excuse me. - Sorry.

88. Come on dear. We're going to a copse.

89. Trees.

90. Wait for me.

91. What does he want us to see?

92. Stop fussing, mother.

93. And do keep up.

94. Help, I can't see.

95. We've no time for sightseeing. Come along.

96. Help.

97. Not far now. Oh, it will be so good to see them again.

98. There, I knew you'd be glad. And won't they be surprised?

99. I can't wait to introduce you to them all.

100. You are lucky to have so many friends.

101. I've never had many. - You could now.

102. If you'd stay with me.

103. As my mate.

104. I couldn't stay with anyone until they prove themselves.

105. But I'm not saying no.

106. I'll decide as we go along.

107. In that case, let's get going.

108. What's happened? - The scent's divided.

109. Perhaps they split into two groups.

110. They wouldn't do that, no. - Then, which way?

111. They turned.

112. Then, later on, they must have doubled back.

113. Something could have been chasing them.

114. Or they got lost.

115. And now, if we choose the wrong way, we're going to waste a lot of time.

116. In that case, there's only one thing we can do.

117. You and I must split up.

118. Each following a different trail.

119. If you discover you're on the wrong track, hurry back to join me.

120. And if I'm on the wrong track...

121. You'd be such a help to our bunch of travelers.

122. You will come back, won't you? I couldn't bear to lose you, not now.

123. You may not have to.

124. You see Moley,

125. it wasn't so far.

126. They do say, Badger, that talking to oneself

127. is the very first sign of madness.

128. What do you mean, talking to myself?

129. I was talking to Mole.

130. Here, Mole.

131. Mole? Where are you?

132. Here, Badger.

133. There, what did I tell you.

134. It seems that Mole has disappeared.

135. Oh, no.

136. Did you do this? - Easy pickings.

137. I bet.

138. Why are you so upset?

139. You're as bad as that stupid badger, you.

140. Badger? - Yeah.

141. And the hare, all sorts they were.

142. Whole bunch of lunatics moaning, going on.

143. And all because of a few mice, I ask you.

144. Which way did they go? - That way.

145. Why? You hungry like?

146. Hungry? Why, you punk.

147. Thanks.

148. Nobody said anything so nice to me in ages.

149. Good hunting.

150. Do you have a mate? - Yes. And a family too.

151. Don't you miss your freedom? - Haven't the time.

152. Much too busy. - I see.

153. I used to like walking alone in the morning dew.

154. And now?

155. And now I don't know what to do.

156. Vixen?

157. Is he brave and true? - Probably.

158. If you don't try, you'll never know.

159. Thank you, Thrush.

160. Good luck.

161. Help.

162. Oh, no. It's an earthquake.

163. Kestrel, is that you?

164. Keep going. You're nearly there.

165. Run for your life.

166. Mole's coming.

167. There you are. Oh Moley, whatever made you do it?

168. We all thought you were lost. - I'm sorry, Badger.

169. You were so tired and I did so want to help.

170. And, oh dear.

171. I always end up being such a nuisance.

172. I'm sorry.

173. I am sorry.

174. It's alright, at least your safe.

175. Did you see the hunt?

176. Yes, don't worry.

177. We'll be alright up here.

178. I hope there aren't any foxes about.

179. So do I, Moley.

180. So do I.

181. They've picked up a scent.

182. That way.

183. What's happening?

184. Run, girl.

185. Run.

186. What's happening? I can't see.

187. Better you don't, Moley.

188. It's Fox!

189. No.

190. What is he doing?

191. This is very exciting.

192. Look. They don't know which fox to follow.

193. Fox deliberately ran across the path of the hounds

194. when they were after another fox, a vixen.

195. He put himself in terrible danger to save her.

196. Kestrel, what's happening?

197. The vixen hasn't escaped.

198. Some of the hounds are following her too. Now they are both in trouble.

199. Our fox is in the clearing now, heading off the rest.

200. Oh, no. The hounds can see him.

201. Don't panic.

202. If only the rabbits hadn't panicked,

203. none of this would ever have happened.

204. The past is past, Toad.

205. I can't bear it.

206. My husband.

207. Oh, never mind him. What about Fox?

208. He's drawing them towards us.

209. Don't panic. - Where am I?

210. What's happening?

211. Fox is drawing the hounds towards us.

212. Badger, we should run. - No, remember the oath.

213. We must all stand together and fight.

214. But we'll be torn to pieces.

215. Poor Fox, he's so tired.

216. They're not going to get him, are they?

217. Prepare yourselves everyone.

218. Kestrel, Owl, is there anything we can do?

219. We can try to head them off.

220. In certain circumstances, attack is the only form of defense.

221. Get on with it then.

222. Get the hounds back here.

223. Cunning devils are trying to confuse the hounds.

224. One fox at a time, let's try the wood.

225. Come on, Fox.

226. It's alright. They've called off the hounds.

227. Well done, Kestrel. Well done, Owl.

228. Gone have they?

229. It isn't over yet.

230. Fox.

231. Oh, no. What have I brought on you all?

232. It's alright, Fox.

233. The riders have turned back.

234. You're safe. They've gone after the other poor fox.

235. Oh, no.

236. I failed her.

237. Who, Fox old boy?

238. The vixen I met on my way back to you.

239. I wanted her to be my mate.

240. Poor Fox.

241. I'm sorry, I didn't realize.

242. I bet she gets away.

243. Three to one on. Any takers?

244. Weasel, will you shut up?

245. I've failed her. - No.

246. She's out of the wood.

247. They're coming this way.

248. Come on.

249. You're almost there.

250. I'll head them off. You can make it.

251. Oh, no.

252. Come on, Vixen.

253. Oh, you poor thing. - You're going to be safe.

254. She's going to be safe.

255. They're calling off the hunt.

256. But why did the horse rear up?

257. I saw a snake strike at the horse's leg.

258. Adder. - Adder?

259. Adder.

260. Where is she?

261. Found you.

262. You're a heroine, Adder. - Don't be stupid.

263. Wasn't me. - Oh, yes it was.

264. Oh no, it wasn't.

265. It was some other stupid snake.

266. It was Adder alright.

267. Hooray, hooray for Adder!

268. Hooray!

269. I'll never live this down.

270. They're going.

271. I know what you did, heading them off.

272. I couldn't bear to think of you and those hounds.

273. You risked your life for me.

274. Were you,

275. were you on your way back to me?

276. Yes. - Does that mean...

277. I would be honored to be your mate.

278. Oh, I'm so happy.

279. Welcome, my dear.

280. You're one of us now.

281. Hooray!

282. Hooray!
