When the normally cowardly Mr Pheasant offers to go back and look for Adder on the farm he is shocked to find that his wife has been made into the farmer's dinner. It is then that he too gets shot. The other animals hear the gun shot and realise what has happened so Owl volunteers and flies over to the farm in search of Adder. Owl finds Adder and they catch up with the rest of the animals and continue on the journey. While crossing a river, the rabbits panic in the water so Fox jumps in to save them. However in their panic they try to climb onto him and put him in danger as well. Badger swims in to help the exhausted Fox and keep him afloat. While the rabbits are taken to safety a large log, floating down stream strikes Fox and Badger.

1. The long journey from the homes we had been forced to leave behind in Farthing Wood

2. was bringing us face to face with many dangers.

3. Toad's instinct was guiding us to the nature reserve at White Deer Park

4. and when we found a warm, dry barn, in which to shelter from the storm,

5. missus Pheasant met her death.

6. Run for it!

7. We're trapped.

8. Who's the best tunneler?

9. We're out. - Well done, Mole.

10. When at last, we reached the peace and safety of a smalls copse.

11. Poor Pheasant, could not get over the loss of his wife.

12. Adder, we've left her behind.

13. I expect that big farm dog's eaten her by now.

14. He'd have to be very hungry.

15. It's my fault.

16. The burdens of leadership are great indeed.

17. Oh well, never mind. - What do you mean, never mind?

18. We can't leave poor Adder behind. Especially after what she did.

19. You mean all that hissing and stuff?

20. All that hissing and stuff kept that stupid dog quiet while we escaped, remember?

21. It's no good. We've got to go back for her.

22. Go back for her?

23. Personally, I think we can thank our lucky stars and forget all about her.

24. I quite agree, that Adder gives me the willies.

25. Oh no, can't go back to the farm mateys. It's much too far.

26. The farm? Don't mention that place.

27. My poor wife.

28. Look, someone's got to go back for her.

29. What we need is a volunteer.

30. Popular, isn't she?

31. How could we forget her?

32. I'll go. - Who said that?

33. That was me, I'll go and fetch Adder.

34. Well I never.

35. Pheasant, you're volunteering to go back to the farm for Adder?

36. It will give me one last chance to see my wife's final resting place.

37. He only wants to make an exhibition of himself, as per usual.

38. It's very brave of him.

39. Of course, it is brave of you, Pheasant.

40. When you face death as often as I have, you get used to it.

41. Besides, now that my wife's gone, what is there left to live for?

42. For goodness sake, Pheasant. If you're going, go.

43. Alright, I know when I'm not wanted.

44. Goodbye.

45. Good luck, Pheasant. - Yes, good luck.

46. Oh dear, I've forgotten pheasants are not very good at flying.

47. We'll be here 'till Christmas at this rate.

48. Where are you going? - Secure the hen house.

49. As long as you don't miss your supper.

50. No chance of that, I'm really looking forward to tasting that pheasant.

51. Psst, Adder.

52. Psst, Adder.

53. Pheasant, get out of sight!

54. I can't see anything. Where are you, Adder?

55. Nevermind you see me, don't let the farmer see you.

56. Whoops.

57. Farmer?

58. Oh, no!

59. If that's Pheasant, I'll never forgive myself.

60. Need another volunteer, Fox?

61. Owl, I'd be grateful if you were a little less critical and a little more helpful.

62. You want me to help?

63. You could offer to go back for Adder.

64. I suppose I could.

65. So why don't you?

66. Well, it's almost night and wings are faster than the fleetest of foot.

67. So, I suppose I might as well volunteer.

68. See you soon.

69. That bird.

70. Look, a stranger.

71. Evening.

72. Mixed bunch, aren't you?

73. That lot from Farthing Wood, are you?

74. How do you know? - Word gets about.

75. Especially in the bird world.

76. Especially when there's a fire and shooting.

77. Yes, word gets about then alright.

78. It's a nice little wood, Rook.

79. Welcome to stay if you like.

80. I say, Fox, that is kind.

81. Fox, couldn't we stay here?

82. You mean for good?

83. It's so dangerous in the world outside and it seems so safe in this little wood.

84. Oh, no good here matey.

85. Lots of grub in Summer but what would happen in the Winter?

86. Toad's right you know, Hare.

87. We just go to keep on for White Deer Park.

88. Sorry, Rook, and all that.

89. Dare say we'll survive the disappointment.

90. Tell you what, we like a bit of a sing song later on.

91. Send our littleuns to sleep. Care to join us?

92. Yes, thank you.

93. Where are you?

94. At last, what kept you?

95. Where's Pheasant?

96. Roasting for supper.

97. Speaking of which, can I offer you some juicy rat?

98. Don't mind if I do.

99. Fancy Fox allowing Pheasant to come back for you.

100. Why, he couldn't even fly properly.

101. I suppose there were lots of volunteers.

102. Well, one or two.

103. Well, one anyway.

104. You'd know better than to ask.

105. Fox couldn't lead a pack of hounds. - Even if they were on his scent.

106. Speaking of hounds, suppose something were to happen to him.

107. Someone else would have to step in to replace him, wouldn't they?

108. Badger?

109. That old fool. - One's as bad as the other.

110. Who else is there?

111. Someone renowned for their wisdom.

112. Where would they be without me? - They're without you now.

113. Wonder how they're getting on. - This rat's nice.

114. Nice evening too. Just right for hunting.

115. Seems a pity to waste the chance.

116. 'Mid pleasures and palaces,

117. though we may roam.

118. Be it ever so humble,

119. there's no place like home.

120. There's no place like home.

121. Good thing Pheasant isn't here or we'd all be drowed in tears.

122. Something more cheerful.

123. I know one! It's called Toad went a courtin'.

124. No it's my turn. I want to do a solo.

125. Half a pound of tuppenny rice, half a pound of treacle.

126. That's the way the money goes. Pop goes the weasel.

127. Did I hear someone calling for an encore?

128. No! Oh well, if you insist.

129. Half a pound of... - No, no. My turn, mateys.

130. tuppenny rice.

131. What's happening, has Weasel finished?

132. Oh yes, Toad is singing now.

133. The old mouse was not at home.

134. Badger, Owl's been a very long time.

135. Do you think she's alright?

136. Ought to be. She is a night creature, like me.

137. Poor old Fox.

138. May as well get some sleep, Fox.

139. I'll keep guard. - Thanks, Badger.

140. But I don't think I could sleep.

141. Know what you mean.

142. Even a dormouse couldn't sleep after Weasel singing.

143. I'm too worried about Owl and Adder, they could be in trouble.

144. Don't go too far now.

145. Look, there's Owl!

146. What?

147. Where's Adder?

148. Where you been? We were worried about you, mateys.

149. Sorry we were so long.

150. But I had to sleep off a good supper first.

151. Heaven knows what she's eaten.

152. I knew we should have left her behind.

153. What happened to Pheasant?

154. You need me to tell you?

155. I knew it, poor Pheasant. And I was so unkind to him.

156. Now he's got something to cry about.

157. That's just it. He'll never cry anymore.

158. Don't you start.

159. I should never have let him go.

160. True.

161. Well at least you're here, Adder.

162. So I suppose we better be getting on our way.

163. Don't panic.

164. Keep still.

165. Every time you move, the noose will get tighter.

166. What can we do?

167. Panic!

168. And what does our leader say we should do?

169. Yes Fox, what are we going to do?

170. Oh dear.

171. Could we chew through the rope?

172. We could try.

173. It's wire. - Any fool could see that.

174. Oh, my baby.

175. Keep still, Rabbit...

176. and let me think. - Think?

177. If you thought to check the area for snares

178. before letting the other animals loose, this would never have happened.

179. If you're so clever Owl, you think of a way to free the rabbit.

180. Very well, if you insist.

181. What's she doing, thinking?

182. Don't panic.

183. Your're attacking the wrong part of the trap.

184. Mole, start digging under the post.

185. Alright, Owl.

186. Thank you, Owl. Thank you, Mole.

187. Thank you.

188. A moment's thought can save a lifetime's misery.

189. You're a wise old bird, I'll give you that.

190. Think nothing of it.

191. How's that baby rabbit doing?

192. It's going to have such a sore throat.

193. Poor little thing.

194. Do you remember that time when my throat was so sore I couldn't speak at all?

195. Yes, dear, it was lovely.

196. Well Rook, it's time to go.

197. Good luck. Hard luck.

198. Goodbye, rooks.

199. Goodbye.

200. Junior!

201. What lies ahead, Toad? Can you remember?

202. Well, there's more farms.

203. We better skirt right 'round 'em.

204. Then there's some meadows, and then...

205. there's a river. - A river?

206. Yes.

207. Is it very wide?

208. Oh, dear.

209. Don't worry. You just leave it to me mateys, I'll see we get across alright.

210. Toad's such an optimist, isn't he?

211. What do you see, Kestrel?

212. Water. A wide river, just ahead.

213. Wide, Toadie?

214. Well alright, it's wide but the current's very slow.

215. I'm sure this is it.

216. There's a hole in the bank here, just like I hid in last time.

217. You're right Toad, the water here seems hardly to be moving.

218. It looks a long way to the other bank.

219. Don't worry.

220. Once Toad has crossed, we'll all go in the water together. Right?

221. Good luck, Toad. - Here we go!

222. Show off.

223. I've made it.

224. Come on in, the water's wonderful.

225. Line up along the bank everyone and let's all go together.

226. Good luck.

227. Get a move on, Rabbit.

228. I don't like water.

229. Come on, the water's fine.

230. It's cold.

231. Come on, let's go.

232. Come on, Mole. Come on, Hedgehog.

233. You're doing fine. Come on!

234. You're nearly halfway across.

235. I can see you, Squirrel. Come on, Mole.

236. Come on, Adder.

237. That Toad's sickening enthusiasm is beginning to get on my nerves.

238. What's up? Something's wrong.

239. Where's Fox? Where are the rabbits?

240. Something's gone wrong over there.

241. Rabbits, what are you doing?

242. Panicking!

243. I can't see what's happening.

244. The rabbits are panicking and swimming around in circles

245. in the middle of the river.

246. Those rabbits, even with one your problems are multiplied.

247. Fox, you need any help?

248. Save me.

249. Stop going 'round in circles.

250. Swim straight in front of you.

251. Take me too, Fox.

252. No, stop it. No.

253. Save us, Fox. Take me too.

254. Stop it. Stop!

255. Badger! That massive debris,

256. it's going to hit Fox and the rabbits and it will kill them.

257. Oh, no.

258. Quickly, my friends. They're in danger, we must save them.

259. Each of you must rescue a rabbit. I'll take care of Fox.

260. Help!

261. Oh, shut up Rabbit. Swim that way.

262. Which way? - That way.

263. Oh, that way.

264. This way please, Rabbit.

265. Hang on, Fox. I'm coming.

266. It's no good, Badger.

267. I'm done for.

268. Save yourself. Go on.

269. Go back to the others.

270. No!

271. Why, I'm not leaving you my dear friend.

272. Can anyone see them?

273. Fox is caught in the tree trunks.

274. Come on, perhaps they're still alive.

275. I'll keep an eye on the debris. Follow me as fast as you can.

276. Well, what are you waiting for? Come on.

277. Can you see anything, Kestrel?

278. Tree trunks are caught at the top of the waterfall

279. but there's no sign of Badger or Fox.

280. Are you sure, Kestrel?

281. I'm afraid we'll have to accept that Badger and Fox are dead.

282. Wait, look.
