They're the first step

50. Well, even if you find him, how exactly do you plan on bringing him home?
51. It's been three months.
We've been searching all that time.
52. We filed a missing person's report,
we have done everything we can
53. Martha
The fact is Clark doesn't want to be found
54. He'll come home to us when he's ready
55. We just have to have faith.
56. Okay?
57. Yeah
58. Hey. I haven't seen you in like a week. I was wondering if we still lived under the same roof
59. I'm swamped here

64. I can't
65. With Lex gone the Talon's been relegated to LuthorCorp accountants who have no interest in a coffee shop in Smallville
66. Okay. Uh, well, if you need a ride to Lex's funeral I'm always available for chauffeuring and moral support
67. Thanks. I'm going with the Kents
68. Have you heard from Clark?
69. I was thinking of staying in Metropolis with Nell for a few days.
70. I feel guilty I haven't spent more time searching for him
71. He's not lost, Lana
72. You may have written him off, but I can't give up hope
73. Clark ran away. He made a conscious decision to leave his friends, his family, and the girl he claimed to love
74. Lana, I know we've said our piece about what happened
75. and we can continue doing the avoidance dance we've perfected all summer
76. but the fact is I'm worried about you
77. I'm the last person you need to worry about
78. Pining over Clark only leads to personal misery. Trust me, I wrote the book
79. Now you need to move on. He obviously has
80. I don't believe that
81. I just think he's waiting for the right person to find him
82. Who sent you?
83. I did. Morgan Edge
84. That's a hell of a scar. How'd you get it?
85. My dad's a real bastard
86. What do you want?
87. You came to my club flashing money,
88. and then you interrupt my guys at the bank.
89. I take it that was not coincidence
90. Those clowns? They work for you?
91. You've made quite a reputation for yourself
92. I set up this test so I could see with my own eyes if you were man or myth.
93. And clearly, you're both
94. Well, I'm glad I could clear it up for you ... Mr. Edge
95. I'd like to talk about a job opportunity
96. Thanks. But I'm really not looking for work right now.
97. I like to fly solo
98. No matter how many bullets bounce off you, Kal,
99. you're still a kid, and I'm the biggest crime boss in Metropolis
100. Well, I would think you could afford better help
101. That's why we're talking
102. I got this one job. It'll make you Midas rich.
103. So when you are tired of playing the little league, you know where to find me
104. Mr. Luthor?
105. Mr. Luthor?
106. Mr. Luthor. I got your message.
107. I admit I was surprised to hear that you wanted to meet today considering the fact that tomorrow is Lex's
108. My son is gone, Miss Sullivan,
109. and there is nothing I can do now but put his memory to rest and get on with the business of living.
110. You remember there used to be an octagonal keyhole here
111. Vaguely. I didn't spend much time in this cave
112. Trust me, it was right here
113. It disappeared the same day as that ...
114. inexplicable explosion on the Kent farm.
115. The same day that our young friend Clark
116. went into exile.
117. You haven't seen him ... have you?
118. After the fight that Clark and I had, I'd be the last person he'd call
119. I've enjoyed reading your column, Miss Sullivan. You're a good writer.
120. "The worst sin of age is to forget the trials of youth."
121. I just wish that report you did for me on Clark Kent had the same kind of insight
122. Well, I gave you everything I had
123. But you came to me with such vigor, and now it seems your enthusiasm for our arrangement is, uh, waning
124. It's kind of hard to find information when the subject is M.I.A
125. It might help you to view that as a test of your reporter's mettle.
126. You're such a promising young talent, I'd hate to see an opportunity like this vanish like the keyhole on this wall here
127. Threatening me, Mr. Luthor, isn't gonna make Clark magically reappear
128. "All decisions have consequences."
129. Clark chose to run away from his.
130. You gonna run away from yours too, Miss Sullivan?
131. Whoa, easy there, Lex
132. Where am I?
133. Same place you've been the last three months. Paradise
134. You had another fever dream. Malaria's still got you.
135. You were calling her name again
136. Who?
137. That bitch who set you up
138. Louis. I appreciate everything you've done for me,
139. but if you ever refer to my wife that way again, I won't be held responsible for my actions.
140. See I was just sitting here running through your story in my head.
141. Now you wake up, Helen and the pilot are gone, and you're left to die
142. You've got to at least consider the possibility
143. Don't you have anything else to talk about?
144. All these years alone on an island? Not really
145. Why don't you go work on the raft
146. Because I am not gonna let you commit suicide!
147. You could end up drifting for weeks and die alone! Is that what you want?
148. I want to get off this island and find out the truth
149. Oh, the truth. See the way I figure it, either your father set you both up, Helen managed this on her own, or the two of them were in league.
150. Why are you in such a hurry to get back to a family that twisted?
151. Because my life is not here
152. Well, it doesn't sound so great back there.
153. You've got to stop looking at this place as a curse, Lex
154. Shut up!
It is a gift!
155. Your life has been stripped down to its bare essence.
156. To the outside world you're already dead.
157. Why not let your old self rest in peace?
158. I think the cruelest fate that a parent can suffer is
159. to lose a child
160. Lex was touched with greatness.
161. We'd only just begun to see that potential.
162. I-I can only imagine the heights he would have soared to
163. if his life ... hadn't been ... cut short so tragically
164. These, uh, rituals are meant to bring closure,
165. but there are so many unanswered questions about Lex's disappearance.
166. Questions I hope that will someday be answered,
167. but those answers won't bring him back.
168. I would've searched for a thousand years if I thought he could be found. We can't hold onto the past.
169. In my heart, I will be searching for my son forever
170. So will I
171. If you're here to grandstand for the paparazzi, I will have you escorted out
172. I wish to pay my last respects to my husband
173. Then, Mrs. Luthor, allow me to leave before the hypocrisy begins
174. Clark, I need to talk to you about
175. Chloe, I told you to never come back here again!
176. Who else knows I'm here?
177. No one. Your secret's safe with me, but we need to talk
178. I'm busy
179. Well, I'm coming in. Now what's your deal? You come to Metropolis and you're a completely different person
180. Maybe it's the real me
181. Well, if it is then I definitely prefer the country Clark.
182. Now... how did you afford all this?
183. Why, Chloe? So you can put me in your column and write a big story about me?
184. Maybe that's why you kept my secret
185. I kept your secret because you asked me to.
186. I was hoping that if I left you alone you'd get a grip and come home. Now there are people in Smallville that still haven't given up on the search
187. I've erased Smallville from my past
188. Really? Is that why you're still wearing your school ring?
189. You know, sooner or later someone else is gonna find you
190. You were lucky
Maybe so
191. But what are you gonna do if one day Lana shows up on your doorstep, or your dad?
192. How are you gonna explain this to them?
I'm through explaining myself to anyone!
193. Clark, Lana is a wreck and your parents are losing the farm!
194. What do I care? I'm never gonna go back anyway
195. Clark, you were not forced into exile
196. You ran away from your problems. You are not being noble, you're being a coward!
197. Chloe, get out!
198. If you tell anyone where I am,
199. I'll go so far away from Metropolis that no one will ever find me!
200. I don't even know who you are anymore
201. Get out!
202. The highlight of the somber affair was the performance of the grieving widow played to perfection by Dr. Helen Bryce
203. in her first public appearance since her dramatic rescue
204. I want you out of my house
205. You can drop the act, Helen, you're among family.
206. And it's not your house yet
207. I'm sure you didn't come all this way for a condolence call
208. I won't give my condolences to a murderer
209. I didn't murder Lex
210. Oh, oh, that's right. Let me see if I can remember your account of the harrowing event.
211. You woke up having been robbed, found the pilot jumping out of the airplane with
212. only one parachute left.
Lex valiantly offered to give it to you
213. and went down to his death in the crippled aircraft.
214. That's a wonderful piece of fiction
215. I think the police would find it interesting
216. that you hired me to spy on Lex
You murdered my son. I won't rest till I've brought your duplicity to light
217. You know, Helen, black widows may be powerful predators, but every predator is somebody else's prey
218. Louis!
219. Louis!
220. Louis!
221. Louis!
222. There's a plane! Did you hear it?
223. I heard it.
What's your problem?
224. That's the first one that's flown over in months
225. Too late now. It's long gone.
226. That's great. That's just great!
227. You're wasting your time! They're never gonna see it.
228. Son of a bitch. I need to get off this island!
229. You know in your heart this is where you belong.
230. Now you can rage against it but ultimately you'll have to accept it
231. You stay away from me, you freak
232. I spoke to the bank.
They still want us out before the auction
233. You know, it's amazing how you can fit your whole life into the back of a pickup truck
234. Is, uh, Bill Ross still okay with us storing our stuff in his garage?
235. Yeah, he said as long as we need it, it's fine with him
236. Oh, Lana gave me the keys to the apartment over the Talon
237. Great
238. Yeah, it-it's small
239. It's okay, Martha, Martha, Martha...
240. It's just not fair. This farm has been in your family for three generations, four counting Clark
241. It's sad
242. Since when have our lives been fair anyway, huh?
243. You remember the day we found out we couldn't have children?
244. You grabbed my hand and you told me not to worry.
245. You said that we would have happy days again,
246. and you were right. We have had happy days
247. with Clark
248. But even though he's not here with us anymore, Martha Kent, I am here to tell you that we will have happy days again
249. Clark!
250. Clark!
251. Clark!
252. Clark!
253. Clark!
254. Thank you
Lana, hey, the other day I, uh,
255. I didn't mean to push my own personal brand of self-denial on you
256. It's okay, Chloe. We're all dealing with Clark in our own way
257. Yeah, and my way is to pull the emotional ripcord and pretend like it didn't happen
258. It's a force of habit when people walk out of my life
259. I can't give up on him without a fight. I already blew it once
260. Blew it? How?
261. When Clark was leaving he asked me to go with him.
262. I said no, but I can't help thinking that if I had gone I could have convinced him to come home
263. Lana, you can't save someone who doesn't want to be saved
264. I love him
265. It's okay. Your feelings for Clark aren't exactly breaking news
266. I saw him yesterday
Just for a second at Lex's funeral
267. Are you sure?
268. Positive. But he took off right away. I'm gonna go back up there
269. and post these
270. Could you give me a lift?
271. Sure. But you don't need the fliers.
I know where he is
272. What?
273. Yeah, okay, you're gonna totally hate me for this, but I found him two months ago
274. Some friends of mine from the Planet snuck me into this club and there he was
275. and I couldn't believe it was him. So I followed him back to his apartment
276. You've known where he's been this entire time and you haven't said anything to anybody?
277. Well, I didn't have a choice. He said if anyone else found out, he'd run away to somewhere no one would find him
278. I can't believe you've been telling me to give up on him
279. Lana, he's not acting like himself
He could be dangerous
280. Just give me the address
281. Well, I'll take you
I think you've done enough already
282. What are you doing here?
283. Looking for you
284. Clark, you need to come home
285. Smallville's not my home anymore
286. I am not letting your ride out of my life again
287. Then get on
288. Lex. I'd like you to meet my dad
289. You killed your father
290. Yeah, it was inevitable. I had to do it. Only one of us could survive
291. See, back there,
he was a rich and powerful guy
292. He was always criticizing me
never thinking I was good enough
293. And it just kept chipping away
chipping away till there was nothing left
294. I thought you and I were kindred spirits
295. No, Louis
You're a psychopath
296. Well ... there's one in all of us
297. I just let mine out
298. Lex!
299. Hey! What's up, Kal?
300. Why'd she call you Kal?
301. It's my secret identity
302. Clark. Clark! I have been worried about you for three months and you've been hanging around in nightclubs?
303. You're so cute when you're angry
304. Lana, if you keep talking about Hicksville, you're gonna be on the next bus going back
305. Now I thought you were here to have some fun
306. What's up, Kal?
Hey, what's up
307. You're right. I'm sorry.
I'll go freshen up
308. Hey, why? I think you look great
309. I'm glad you're here
310. Me too
311. If she's the one you've been saving yourself for, I can understand the wait
312. Hello?
313. Mr. Kent, I found Clark
314. Lana, where are you?
315. A nightclub in Metropolis called Atlantis. He's acting really strange
316. Lana, listen to me. Clark is not himself right now
317. I want you to be very careful. Now I'm on my way down there, but if he wants to leave, I don't want you to try and stop him
318. Okay
319. Who you talking to?
320. Who's this?
321. Clark, it's me
322. Jonathan. How's the farm?
323. Clark, your mother and I love you very much and we want you to come home
324. Is that right? Hey, what about not dwelling on the past and making a fresh new start? Come on,
325. you can admit it. You're happier I'm gone
326. Clark...
Son, that's not true
327. I'm not your son! And you're not my parents, you never have been!
328. You never will be!
329. Clark, what is the matter with you? Your parents love you!
330. I love you
331. Do you always betray the people you love?
332. I've got to go get him
333. How, Jonathan?
334. If he sees you he could either run, or if he's angry enough he could hurt you. You can't stop him
335. Martha, if I don't go and get him now
we may lose him forever
336. I'm glad you decided to consider my offer
337. But why the change of heart?
338. My past is catching up to my present
I need to disappear
339. Free tonight?
340. My calendar just opened up
341. This is an account in the Grand Cayman
342. Here's how much is waiting for you
343. That's a serious amount of zeroes
344. It's a serious job
345. I need you to break into a secure building
346. The office on the 60th floor has a very valuable package
347. It's in a titanium-reinforced steel safe
348. Not a job for mere mortals
349. Sounds like easy money
350. I haven't told you where you're going yet
351. LuthorCorp Plaza
352. You want me to break into Lionel Luthor's office
353. Will that be a problem?
354. No. It'll be my pleasure
355. Lex
356. Lex
357. Lex
358. Lex
359. I know every inch of this island
360. Where are you going?
361. You can't kill me!
362. Hey, mon
363. What happened?
364. No. No. No. I had to do it. He was crazy. I had no choice. I had to kill him!
365. Kill who?
366. Him!
367. There ain't nobody there, mon
368. No. No! Louis!
369. These islands can mess with your head, play tricks, mon
370. You're lucky my captain saw your fire
371. No. It wasn't a trick.
372. He was real. You have to believe me. He was real!
373. He wasn't ready!
374. But you, you had to keep pushing him anyway, didn't you?
375. What kind of a race are you people?
376. No wonder you destroyed yourselves
377. I am Jor-El, the true father of Kal-El
378. His name is Clark Kent!
I am his father, I raised him
379. You have fulfilled your function in Kal-El's destiny
380. His destiny is whatever he makes of it
381. His destiny is too great for you to comprehend
382. This was Kal-El's first test
383. to see if he was ready to begin his journey
384. He's too young! He needs more time!
385. This phase of Kal-El's journey is almost complete
386. It will be of no consequence if he returns to you ... for now
387. You'll bring him home?
388. If you want him,
you must retrieve him yourself
389. I can't. He's too powerful
390. Are you willing to sacrifice anything to get him back?
391. Yes!
392. For my son I'll do anything
393. Hello, Clark
394. Jonathan Kent
395. Isn't it a little past your bedtime?
396. How'd you find me?
397. Your biological father
398. You two are working together now, huh?
399. That's cute.
400. But I didn't listen to him and I'm certainly not gonna listen to you
401. Clark
402. You need to put all this behind you, son. Come on home to the people who love you
