1. All right, Ryan, what am I looking at?Copy !req
2. Ryan.Copy !req
3. A dog.Copy !req
4. What kind of dog?Copy !req
5. - A lab.
- What color is it?Copy !req
6. - What color?
- Brown.Copy !req
7. A tree.Copy !req
8. A pine tree.Copy !req
9. Ryan.Copy !req
10. A father, mother and son.Copy !req
11. Another pressure headache?Copy !req
12. Let's try and push on.Copy !req
13. I don't want to answer
any more questions.Copy !req
14. There's just a few more left.Copy !req
15. Full moon.Copy !req
16. A butterfly.Copy !req
17. Train.Copy !req
18. You're afraid you're not gonna get
all your research done.Copy !req
19. Get some coagulant.Copy !req
20. Yes, doctor.Copy !req
21. What is it, Ryan?Copy !req
22. What's OxyContin?Copy !req
23. It's a very powerful narcotic. Why?Copy !req
24. He's stealing it.Copy !req
25. I knew it.Copy !req
26. I'll be right back.Copy !req
27. - What do you got there?
- The coagulant.Copy !req
28. It's what you asked for, right?Copy !req
29. Son of a... Son of a bitch!Copy !req
30. Ryan.Copy !req
31. Ryan?Copy !req
32. Ryan, open the door.Copy !req
33. Open the door now. Open up.Copy !req
34. Clark, can you get that?Copy !req
35. Yeah.Copy !req
36. - Hello?
- Clark, you gotta help me.Copy !req
37. Ryan, is that you?Copy !req
38. - You gotta get me out.
- Calm down. Where are you?Copy !req
39. A hospital called Summerholt.
Clark, you gotta get me out, please!Copy !req
40. Get in there.Copy !req
41. - Give me the phone.
- They're experimenting on me!Copy !req
42. - What?
- Let go, help! Clark! No!Copy !req
43. Calm down, Ryan.Copy !req
44. - Let go, let go! Let go!
- Lay him down.Copy !req
45. Ryan!Copy !req
46. I'll stop! Don't put that in me! Stop!
Let go! No! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!Copy !req
47. I'm sorry!Copy !req
48. Ryan's aunt's phone
has been disconnected.Copy !req
49. The operator said
there's no new listing.Copy !req
50. - It's like she disappeared.
- Doesn't make any sense.Copy !req
51. - What about this Summerholt?
- No, I checked.Copy !req
52. There's no hospital by that name
in Edge City.Copy !req
53. When did you last hear from Ryan?Copy !req
54. He sent an e-mail a few weeks ago.
He was getting ready for school.Copy !req
55. I'm calling the Edge City police.Copy !req
56. I've never heard him so scared.Copy !req
57. Maybe somebody's filed
a missing persons report.Copy !req
58. I keep thinking I missed something.Copy !req
59. Some clue in his e-mail,
some sign that things weren't okay.Copy !req
60. I guess I just wasn't listening.Copy !req
61. I know Ryan means a lot to you, Clark,
but you've gotta cut yourself some slack.Copy !req
62. Second-guessing isn't gonna help.Copy !req
63. Hey, remember that cute guy Henrik,
who works at the phone company?Copy !req
64. Yeah, you mean the Hungarian one
with the toy scooter?Copy !req
65. He's Austrian, and it's a classic Vespa,
but anyway...Copy !req
66. he traced Ryan's call
back to its point of origin.Copy !req
67. You found something.Copy !req
68. Summerholt Neurological Institute.Copy !req
69. - It's not in Edge City, it's in Metropolis.
- That explains why we couldn't find it.Copy !req
70. The weird thing is that Summerholt
is a research facility.Copy !req
71. They don't take patients.Copy !req
72. And if they did, why would
Ryan be in lockdown...Copy !req
73. in a place that specializes
in super-esoteric brain research?Copy !req
74. Mr. Mayor. Thank you for seeing me
on such short notice.Copy !req
75. Always a pleasure, Lex.
How can I help you?Copy !req
76. As you know, LexCorp is in the midst
of major plan expansion.Copy !req
77. But we're still awaiting final approval
from the zoning commission.Copy !req
78. Well, you know how it is these days, Lex.Copy !req
79. With all these environmental
and safety regulations.Copy !req
80. There's no such thing
as a rubber stamp anymore.Copy !req
81. If this project collapses,
it's gonna cost Smallville a lot of jobs.Copy !req
82. I've been friends with your father...Copy !req
83. ever since LuthorCorp bought
the old creamed-corn plant.Copy !req
84. He was always a very generous supporter.Copy !req
85. I never realized my father had an interest
in local politics.Copy !req
86. I don't think he does.Copy !req
87. But I know he's never had a permit
held up at the commission.Copy !req
88. You want a bribe?Copy !req
89. I never said that.Copy !req
90. But now that you're running
your father's plant...Copy !req
91. you should learn
how business gets done.Copy !req
92. Let's be clear.Copy !req
93. I don't work for my father anymore,
and it's not his plant. LexCorp owns it.Copy !req
94. And I have my own way
of doing business.Copy !req
95. I'm up for re-election soon.
It's my fourth term.Copy !req
96. Think of this as the beginning
of a long-term relationship...Copy !req
97. which could have beneficial
consequences for both of us.Copy !req
98. Call this man.Copy !req
99. He'll explain how things work.Copy !req
100. Oh, and imagine how much you'll lose
if construction shuts down.Copy !req
101. Hey.Copy !req
102. Hi. How was your ride?Copy !req
103. Oh, it was great. We took the long way
around Crater Lake.Copy !req
104. Do you remember riding at
the Metropolis Equestrian Center?Copy !req
105. And you said you wished you
belonged to a club like that?Copy !req
106. Yeah. They've got fantastic facilities.Copy !req
107. Well, what would you say if I told you
you could ride there every weekend...Copy !req
108. and any time you wanted after school?Copy !req
109. I'd say it'd be a long drive.Copy !req
110. I know this is sudden.Copy !req
111. But...Copy !req
112. Well, Dean's taking a job in Metropolis,
and he wants us to move with him.Copy !req
113. And you said yes?Copy !req
114. I know it's a lot to ask, Lana.Copy !req
115. But it's important to Dean...Copy !req
116. and I think it'll be a great opportunity
for you. It'll be great for all of us.Copy !req
117. I can't believe you agreed to do this
without even asking me.Copy !req
118. I know it's difficult
to imagine right now...Copy !req
119. What about school? And my friends?Copy !req
120. Not to mention the Talon.Copy !req
121. Lana, you can visit Smallville
any time you want.Copy !req
122. This Summerholt Institute has
more bureaucracy than the IRS.Copy !req
123. I was on hold for an hour before
they told me to call tomorrow.Copy !req
124. I want to go and check it out.Copy !req
125. The police have been there,
and there was no sign of Ryan.Copy !req
126. - This might not even be the place.
- Ryan's like a little brother to me.Copy !req
127. If something happened to him,
I'd never forgive myself.Copy !req
128. We understand how you feel.Copy !req
129. But you can't just go and start
ripping the doors off this place.Copy !req
130. His name is Ryan James.Copy !req
131. I told you, we have no one here
by that name.Copy !req
132. - I know he's here.
- If you don't leave, I'll call security.Copy !req
133. I want to talk to someone in charge.Copy !req
134. - Mary, is there a problem?
- Dr. Garner.Copy !req
135. This man believes we have
a friend of his here.Copy !req
136. It's okay, I'll handle it. Dr. Garner.Copy !req
137. Clark Kent.Copy !req
138. - Kent. Did your parents call earlier?
- Yeah.Copy !req
139. We're looking for our friend Ryan James.
He called and said he was being held here.Copy !req
140. There's been a mistake.
We're a research facility.Copy !req
141. I know he's here.Copy !req
142. Don't take my word for it,
talk to the police.Copy !req
143. They came by and checked. Twice.Copy !req
144. I wish I could help you,
but your friend isn't here.Copy !req
145. I hope you find him.Copy !req
146. - Ryan.
- Clark?Copy !req
147. Hey. You're not supposed to be in here.Copy !req
148. It's okay, we'll get you out of here.Copy !req
149. - Here you go.
- I knew you'd come for me.Copy !req
150. Here you go, Ryan.Copy !req
151. How you doing?Copy !req
152. Okay. Thanks to Clark.Copy !req
153. Ryan, do you have any idea how we can
get ahold of your aunt?Copy !req
154. I think she moved to Arizona.Copy !req
155. How could she just leave you?Copy !req
156. A few months ago, I started getting
nosebleeds and headaches.Copy !req
157. She took me to doctors,
but no one knew what the problem was.Copy !req
158. The bills were becoming too much
for her to handle...Copy !req
159. Then Dr. Garner showed up
and offered to pay for my care.Copy !req
160. Ryan, what were they treating you for?Copy !req
161. They were...Copy !req
162. - They were treating me...
- They were holding him for observation.Copy !req
163. Clark, can I talk to you for a moment?Copy !req
164. Clark?Copy !req
165. Yeah?Copy !req
166. Never mind.Copy !req
167. Get some rest, okay?Copy !req
168. I appreciate you taking Ryan in.Copy !req
169. If I took him home,
my parents would have freaked.Copy !req
170. Yeah, kidnapping
has that effect on people.Copy !req
171. Why did you break him out if they
were only keeping him for observation?Copy !req
172. Look, I didn't have a choice.Copy !req
173. - They were treating him like a lab rat.
- Clark, you abducted a minor.Copy !req
174. They'll trace him to you and me.
We're in serious trouble here.Copy !req
175. I shouldn't have involved you.
I'll find someplace else to hide him.Copy !req
176. Ryan's staying here.
At least for tonight.Copy !req
177. Tomorrow I'll talk to my lawyers,
see what our options are.Copy !req
178. I'm sorry.Copy !req
179. I didn't think it through. I saw him
hooked to wires, I had to do something.Copy !req
180. So you staged a one-man prison break?Copy !req
181. How did you manage to get him out
without anybody stopping you?Copy !req
182. Just lucky, I guess.Copy !req
183. You're the luckiest guy I've ever met.Copy !req
184. Let's hope it doesn't run out
before tomorrow.Copy !req
185. Mom?Copy !req
186. Hey, Dad.Copy !req
187. What's going on?Copy !req
188. Where's Ryan?Copy !req
189. - He's safe from you.
- Clark, what did you do?Copy !req
190. Sheriff, search every inch of this farm.Copy !req
191. Wait, you can't do that.Copy !req
192. - They have a search warrant.
- Place him under arrest for kidnapping.Copy !req
193. What?Copy !req
194. Look. Give me till tomorrow morning.Copy !req
195. I don't know how you got him
out of Summerholt...Copy !req
196. but if he's not here by 9 a. M...Copy !req
197. federal marshals
will be crawling all over...Copy !req
198. and your life is going
under the microscope.Copy !req
199. Ryan. Hi.Copy !req
200. Hi, Ryan.Copy !req
201. Mr. Kent.Copy !req
202. Please don't be mad at Clark,
he was trying to help me.Copy !req
203. I know that, Ryan.Copy !req
204. You should've seen the way
he threw that orderly.Copy !req
205. - He must have weighed, like, 300 pounds.
- No, he's exaggerating. A little.Copy !req
206. Look, Ryan, we're glad
that you're okay, but...Copy !req
207. Clark did go about this the wrong way.
I'm afraid that we don't have...Copy !req
208. much of a choice but to give you back.Copy !req
209. How did you end up in Summerholt?Copy !req
210. Dr. Garner told my aunt that there was
something wrong with my brain.Copy !req
211. That's why I can read minds.Copy !req
212. She found out about my ability,
it just freaked her out.Copy !req
213. Ryan, I'm so sorry.Copy !req
214. She's not a bad person, she just couldn't
accept that I was different.Copy !req
215. They're here.Copy !req
216. Hello, Ryan.Copy !req
217. Please don't let him take me.Copy !req
218. Dr. Garner's agreed to drop the kidnapping
charges if you turn over the boy.Copy !req
219. Come on, Ryan, we need to get back
to Metropolis.Copy !req
220. I'm Ryan's legal guardian,
and I have the paperwork denoting such...Copy !req
221. please do your job.Copy !req
222. Having custody of a child is not the same
thing as having a pink slip to a car.Copy !req
223. Can't you see he doesn't want
to go with you?Copy !req
224. Ethan, please.Copy !req
225. The choice is yours, Mr. And Mrs. Kent.Copy !req
226. You can lose one boy here today,
or both of them.Copy !req
227. I believe kidnapping comes
with some juvenile time.Copy !req
228. I'm sorry, folks, but...Copy !req
229. Sheriff.Copy !req
230. Before you do anything...Copy !req
231. take a look at this.Copy !req
232. It's a restraining order
giving the Kents custody...Copy !req
233. until the situation can be reviewed.Copy !req
234. You want to try a judicial roadblock?
You go ahead. I'll have Clark arrested.Copy !req
235. You could, but I have a countersuit
ready to be filed.Copy !req
236. Metropolis DA is very interested in
Summerholt's research practices...Copy !req
237. especially involving minors
held under duress.Copy !req
238. Your move, doctor.Copy !req
239. This isn't over.Copy !req
240. Your rich friend saved you today, Clark.Copy !req
241. Sheriff.Copy !req
242. Surprise!Copy !req
243. It's your jailbreak party.Copy !req
244. We even have the obligatory
pistachio log ice cream cake...Copy !req
245. and we managed to rustle up a band.Copy !req
246. This is so cool. Thanks, guys.Copy !req
247. Good to see you, man.Copy !req
248. I'm so glad you're back.Copy !req
249. Yeah, me too.Copy !req
250. You knew about this
the whole time, didn't you?Copy !req
251. - Half a block away.
- Yeah.Copy !req
252. - Thanks for not ruining the surprise.
- I was tempted to. I hate pistachio.Copy !req
253. But it was definitely worth the kiss.Copy !req
254. - Hey, guys.
- Hey, Pete. Tell your mom thanks.Copy !req
255. - Thanks for what?
- She co-signed the restraining order.Copy !req
256. Imagine getting a call from Lex Luthor
at 5 in the morning?Copy !req
257. Hey, Pete. Come here a second.Copy !req
258. - Pete knows your secret.
- Yeah, I know, I told him. It's all right.Copy !req
259. - Did you know he's stressed out about it?
- No.Copy !req
260. - Why?
- He's worried that he'll slip up and tell.Copy !req
261. Then they'll lock you up
in a place like Summerholt.Copy !req
262. Brought you guys a couple of pieces
before everyone eats it all.Copy !req
263. Hey, what's wrong?Copy !req
264. - Just a headache.
- I'll go get you a glass of water.Copy !req
265. You sure you're okay?Copy !req
266. Clark.Copy !req
267. Lana's moving to Metropolis.Copy !req
268. Hey, Clark, got your message.
Is everything okay?Copy !req
269. Yeah.Copy !req
270. I just wanted to thank you for the party.
It was really great.Copy !req
271. Sorry we left early,
Ryan wasn't feeling so good.Copy !req
272. Yeah, how's he doing?
He didn't look so hot.Copy !req
273. To be honest, I'm not really sure.Copy !req
274. He's got a doctor's appointment
tomorrow...Copy !req
275. to try to figure out
what they did to him.Copy !req
276. You should have seen him, Lana.Copy !req
277. But he's safe now, thanks to you.Copy !req
278. Yeah, he's just such a good kid.Copy !req
279. Seems like life's always
kicking him in the teeth.Copy !req
280. Makes you realize how lucky we are.Copy !req
281. - You okay? You seem a little preoccupied.
- Oh, no. No, I'm fine.Copy !req
282. Things aren't as solid between us
as they used to be...Copy !req
283. but I'm still here for you
if you want to talk about anything.Copy !req
284. Nell and Dean are moving to Metropolis,
and I'm supposed to go with them.Copy !req
285. How do you feel about that?Copy !req
286. How would you feel if you were uprooted
and sent somewhere far away...Copy !req
287. where you didn't know anyone?Copy !req
288. I think it'd be really tough.Copy !req
289. I feel like a piece of luggage
they want to throw in the trunk...Copy !req
290. as they drive off to their new life.Copy !req
291. Have you talked to Henry Small
about this?Copy !req
292. No, I'm not ready to dump this in his lap.Copy !req
293. Just because we might share the
same DNA does not mean we're family.Copy !req
294. Well, you can come stay with us.
It's just kind of crowded right now.Copy !req
295. Ryan's lucky.Copy !req
296. At least he got to choose his family.Copy !req
297. I'll see you later.Copy !req
298. Don't go.Copy !req
299. Don't go to Metropolis.Copy !req
300. Or what? You gonna kidnap me too?Copy !req
301. Nell shouldn't be able to dictate your life
without your input.Copy !req
302. If moving doesn't feel right, don't go.Copy !req
303. Mr. Luthor's in Metropolis
so I won't be long...Copy !req
304. and then we'll get you to the doctor.Copy !req
305. You pretend around Mr. Kent
you don't like your job. But you do.Copy !req
306. Now that you're in our lives, I may
give it up to spend more time with you.Copy !req
307. - I don't want to be a problem.
- Ryan.Copy !req
308. You are a gift. Like Clark.Copy !req
309. I know your secret.Copy !req
310. Why don't you tell Mr. Kent and Clark?
They'd want to know.Copy !req
311. I will, when the time is right,
but in the meantime...Copy !req
312. - I promise, my lips are sealed.
- Thank you.Copy !req
313. Ryan.Copy !req
314. - Hi, Lex.
- Hey, how you feeling?Copy !req
315. - Much better. Thanks again for...
- Harboring you? My pleasure.Copy !req
316. - I'd better get to work.
- See you.Copy !req
317. So can I check out that
Warrior Angel collection?Copy !req
318. That depends. Your hands clean?Copy !req
319. Warrior Angel, number one,
mint condition.Copy !req
320. I had two copies of every issue.
One for the collection...Copy !req
321. And one for reading.Copy !req
322. Why do you like Warrior Angel so much?Copy !req
323. Helped me through some tough times
when I was younger.Copy !req
324. After your mom died?Copy !req
325. How did you know that?Copy !req
326. Clark told me.Copy !req
327. The world between these glossy covers
was reassuring.Copy !req
328. You knew who the heroes
and villains were. When you grow up...Copy !req
329. you learn that not everything's
black and white.Copy !req
330. So now all you see is shades of gray?Copy !req
331. Ryan.Copy !req
332. Real life is not a comic book.Copy !req
333. Sometimes you have to get
your hands dirty, make compromises.Copy !req
334. That's what your father told you.
That doesn't mean it's right.Copy !req
335. You are either remarkably intuitive or...Copy !req
336. Ryan?Copy !req
337. Ryan, what's wrong?Copy !req
338. It's so loud.Copy !req
339. Hey, buddy, how's your head?Copy !req
340. Still hurts a little.Copy !req
341. - The newest issue.
- Yeah, they had it at the gift shop.Copy !req
342. - So, what's up with the floating balloon?
- It's Warrior Angel's aerodrome.Copy !req
343. A floating fortress where he can get away
from his troubles.Copy !req
344. Sounds like something
everyone should have.Copy !req
345. - Not sure about the floating part though.
- Why not?Copy !req
346. I have this little fear of flying.Copy !req
347. I didn't think
you were scared of anything.Copy !req
348. There's a lot of things I'm scared of.Copy !req
349. Guess I just put on a brave face.Copy !req
350. Yeah.Copy !req
351. Me too.Copy !req
352. My parents said the doctors
are gonna run more tests.Copy !req
353. They don't need to, I know what's wrong
with me. I read Dr. Garner's mind.Copy !req
354. What is it?Copy !req
355. There's a tumor in my head, Clark.Copy !req
356. - It's getting bigger.
- I'll tell the doctors.Copy !req
357. They know.Copy !req
358. I'm dying, Clark.Copy !req
359. And no one can save me.Copy !req
360. Clark.Copy !req
361. We're going to the hospital,
wanna come?Copy !req
362. Is there any news?Copy !req
363. Son, the tumor is growing
at an accelerated rate.Copy !req
364. The doctors think it's probably due to
the experiments that were done on Ryan.Copy !req
365. This is Ryan's.Copy !req
366. He thinks I'm a hero.Copy !req
367. - Hey, you've helped a whole lot of people.
- I can't help Ryan.Copy !req
368. - What kind of hero is that?
- Listen...Copy !req
369. this thing is beyond
even your ability, son.Copy !req
370. The doctors are doing everything
that they can. We...Copy !req
371. have to pray for the best.Copy !req
372. What am I supposed to do,
just sit here and watch Ryan die?Copy !req
373. No. Nobody's asking you
to do that, Clark.Copy !req
374. Good.Copy !req
375. Because I'm not gonna give up.Copy !req
376. "Facts on child emancipation." I have
a feeling this isn't for a research paper.Copy !req
377. I decided to tell Nell that I wasn't
moving with her to Metropolis.Copy !req
378. Well, that's very Erin Brockovich of you.Copy !req
379. How did Nell take it?Copy !req
380. One, she's my legal guardian,
two, I'm a teenager, and three:Copy !req
381. - I don't have any say in the matter.
- That pretty much covers all your bases.Copy !req
382. Are you gonna pursue
the emancipation thing?Copy !req
383. It could take up to a year and a half
to complete the process.Copy !req
384. Sounds like you're talking yourself
out of it.Copy !req
385. It's my last shot.Copy !req
386. You know, you might have
one other option.Copy !req
387. This is the man you want to talk to.Copy !req
388. He's developed a radical new serum
that shrinks primary brain tumors.Copy !req
389. - It's experimental.
- How can I get in touch with him?Copy !req
390. That's the problem.Copy !req
391. His office in Hub City said he's flying
to Helsinki this afternoon...Copy !req
392. he won't be back for six weeks.Copy !req
393. By that time, it'll be too late.Copy !req
394. Clark.Copy !req
395. When I was looking
into Ryan's condition...Copy !req
396. I found that some scientists
think the type of tumor he has...Copy !req
397. can give a person ESP-like abilities.
- What are you saying?Copy !req
398. Ryan is unnervingly insightful.Copy !req
399. I think he may be able to read
people's minds.Copy !req
400. Are you even interested in helping Ryan?
Or just exploiting him too?Copy !req
401. I just spent three hours on the phone
tracking this doctor down.Copy !req
402. What do you think?Copy !req
403. I'm sorry.Copy !req
404. I understand what you're going through,
but sometimes...Copy !req
405. no matter how much you want to save
someone, there's nothing you can do.Copy !req
406. I'm not gonna let Ryan down.Copy !req
407. When my mother got sick...Copy !req
408. I spent my time researching
doctors and treatments.Copy !req
409. But the most important thing I could
have done was spend time with her.Copy !req
410. By the time I realized that,
it was too late.Copy !req
411. I wasn't at her side when she passed,
Clark. Don't make the same mistake I did.Copy !req
412. I'm not gonna let him die, Lex.Copy !req
413. Hey.Copy !req
414. Brought you some comics.Copy !req
415. - Clark beat you to it.
- Yeah?Copy !req
416. Well, I bet he didn't bring you number 66.Copy !req
417. That's the rarest issue.Copy !req
418. It's the one where Devilicus
turned against Warrior Angel.Copy !req
419. - Weren't they best friends?
- Once upon a time.Copy !req
420. What happened to them?Copy !req
421. Well, they ruled the Guardian Realm
together...Copy !req
422. until Devilicus told Warrior Angel...Copy !req
423. that they should join forces
and conquer humanity.Copy !req
424. Together, no one would be able
to stop them.Copy !req
425. - What did Warrior Angel say?
- He refused.Copy !req
426. He believed it was a hero's sacred duty
to protect those weaker than himself.Copy !req
427. Devilicus thought he was naive...Copy !req
428. and vowed to destroy him
and everything he stood for.Copy !req
429. Why do you think Devilicus went bad?Copy !req
430. I'm not sure.Copy !req
431. Probably wasn't aware of it.Copy !req
432. You see, Ryan...Copy !req
433. in life, the road to darkness
is a journey...Copy !req
434. not a light switch.Copy !req
435. You should remember that, Lex.Copy !req
436. - Excuse me, have you seen Dr. Burton?
- Who?Copy !req
437. This guy, right here.Copy !req
438. You just missed him, kid. Right there.Copy !req
439. Wait!Copy !req
440. - Wait!
- Who is that?Copy !req
441. Dr. Burton!Copy !req
442. - What are you doing? Who are you?
- I'm Clark Kent.Copy !req
443. My friend is really sick. Would you
take a look at these scans?Copy !req
444. Doctor, please, by the time you get back,
it'll be too late.Copy !req
445. - Get your hands in the air now!
- Doctor, please.Copy !req
446. - I said, hands in the air now!
- Wait a second.Copy !req
447. Where's your friend now?Copy !req
448. Mom, Dad, when's Ryan
gonna be out of surgery?Copy !req
449. In a couple of hours. Clark...Copy !req
450. I don't think I've ever been
as proud of you as I am right now.Copy !req
451. Your mother's right, son.
It was an amazing thing that you did.Copy !req
452. But I hope you understand that even
though you did get Dr. Burton here...Copy !req
453. Ryan isn't necessarily
out of the woods.Copy !req
454. I know it's no guarantee...Copy !req
455. but I think it's gonna work.
I have a great feeling about it.Copy !req
456. Over the past 12 years...Copy !req
457. thirty-two city contracts have been
awarded to firms with ties to Mayor Tate.Copy !req
458. His sweetheart deals have
endangered our environment...Copy !req
459. and harmed businesses trying
to compete on an uneven playing field.Copy !req
460. Can Smallville really afford
another four years of Mayor Tate?Copy !req
461. Why are you doing this?Copy !req
462. Smallville needs an honest mayor.Copy !req
463. - Are you planning on running?
- No.Copy !req
464. But I'm putting my support and money
behind your opponent.Copy !req
465. You'd save yourself a lot of trouble
by announcing your retirement now.Copy !req
466. You can kiss that plant expansion
goodbye.Copy !req
467. I will see that it never gets approval.Copy !req
468. I'm prepared to sacrifice it to defeat you.Copy !req
469. You know, you're not from here.
People don't like you.Copy !req
470. Don't laugh at me.Copy !req
471. All it'll take are some fiery campaign
speeches about outside interests...Copy !req
472. controlling this community
and you'll start to feel the heat.Copy !req
473. When Winston Churchill heard
about the attack on Pearl Harbor...Copy !req
474. he broke out a bottle of champagne
and said, "We've won the war."Copy !req
475. His generals looked at him
like he'd lost his mind.Copy !req
476. America's Pacific Fleet was wiped out...Copy !req
477. France was overrun and the Luftwaffe
was bombing London.Copy !req
478. Churchill said America
is like a giant boiler.Copy !req
479. Light a fire under it...Copy !req
480. and there's no limit to the amount
of heat it can generate.Copy !req
481. If you start a fire, Mayor Tate...Copy !req
482. you'd better be prepared
to deal with the flames.Copy !req
483. Clark.Copy !req
484. - Hey, Lana.
- Is there any news?Copy !req
485. Ryan's still in recovery,
but Dr. Burton is optimistic.Copy !req
486. - Everything's gonna work out.
- Yeah, I think it is.Copy !req
487. Oh, by the way, I took your advice.Copy !req
488. Chloe and her dad have offered to let me
stay with them until I finish high school.Copy !req
489. - And Nell's cool with that?
- Not really, but she's agreed to it.Copy !req
490. Well, I knew you were a fighter.Copy !req
491. It's scary...Copy !req
492. but then I think of Ryan
and everything that he's gone through.Copy !req
493. It kind of puts things in perspective.Copy !req
494. You and Chloe as roommates.Copy !req
495. - Did you ever see that coming?
- Not in a million years.Copy !req
496. What is it?Copy !req
497. Nothing.Copy !req
498. It's just you won't be
the girl next door anymore.Copy !req
499. I'm not going anywhere, Clark.Copy !req
500. Maybe now you can give
your telescope to Ryan.Copy !req
501. Mom?Copy !req
502. Clark.Copy !req
503. What you reading, buddy?Copy !req
504. The infamous aerodrome, huh?Copy !req
505. Every year for my birthday,
I'd wish for my own aerodrome.Copy !req
506. So I could fly high above the Earth.Copy !req
507. Up there all my problems would seem
so small and far away.Copy !req
508. It's a good idea except for the flying part.Copy !req
509. This is one of Lex's favorites.Copy !req
510. - Would you give it back to him?
- No, you give it to him.Copy !req
511. When you get out of here.Copy !req
512. I know I said
you should be careful of Lex.Copy !req
513. But I never told you how much
he admires you.Copy !req
514. Promise me you'll keep an eye
on him after I'm gone.Copy !req
515. Ryan. Don't talk like that, all right?
You're not going anywhere.Copy !req
516. - Clark.
- Look, you don't just give up hope.Copy !req
517. - There's more doctors we can see.
- You're not listening to me.Copy !req
518. The doctor said you bought me
a few extra days.Copy !req
519. I want to spend that time
with my friend.Copy !req
520. Ryan, what's wrong?Copy !req
521. Ryan.Copy !req
522. - Ryan, what's wrong?
- It's so loud in here.Copy !req
523. All right, look. I'll take you
somewhere quiet, all right?Copy !req
524. What do you think?Copy !req
525. It's peaceful.Copy !req
526. I thought you were afraid of flying.Copy !req
527. Not when I have you here to protect me.Copy !req
528. Thanks, Clark.Copy !req
529. For what?Copy !req
530. This moment.Copy !req
531. It's perfect.Copy !req
532. I don't want you to be angry or sad.Copy !req
533. You changed my life.Copy !req
534. You're gonna change
a lot of people's lives, Clark.Copy !req
535. Promise me you'll never give up.Copy !req
536. I promise.Copy !req
