1. Okay, take five. Kent and Turner,
you're in the final.Copy !req
2. Dude, I'd definitely take
you in a rematch.Copy !req
3. My foot slipped on the dive,
ruined my rhythm.Copy !req
4. It's funny, I thought you
were just slow.Copy !req
5. He's a hottie, isn't he?Copy !req
6. Look at him.Copy !req
7. - Who, Clark?
- Oh, come on, Lana.Copy !req
8. - Krissy, Clark and I are just friends.
- Right.Copy !req
9. - So, what do you think?
- Awesome.Copy !req
10. I'll ask the principal
if we can hang it in the cafeteria.Copy !req
11. You've really thrown yourself
into Spirit Week. I'm impressed.Copy !req
12. Well, these are the best times of our lives.
Isn't that what they say?Copy !req
13. To be honest, I'd forgotten
how much fun this can be.Copy !req
14. - I'm looking forward to it.
- Krissy. Hey, baby.Copy !req
15. Hey, Troy, you're dripping
on my signs.Copy !req
16. - Don't you have another race?
- Finals. I need a good-luck kiss.Copy !req
17. - Go. I can finish up here.
- Thanks. Follow me.Copy !req
18. Not a problem.Copy !req
19. All right, this one's for bragging rights.
Fastest in the school.Copy !req
20. Okay, guys, on the blocks.Copy !req
21. Come on, Troy, hurry up.Copy !req
22. Swimmers, take your marks.Copy !req
23. Three, two, one!Copy !req
24. Troy?Copy !req
25. - Hey, hey! Troy!
- What's wrong with him?Copy !req
26. He's going under!Copy !req
27. Somebody help him!Copy !req
28. - Troy!
- Help him!Copy !req
29. Open your mouth.Copy !req
30. Hey, that's perfect.Copy !req
31. All we have to do is come up with
a snappy name, we'll make a fortune.Copy !req
32. Forget Mrs. Fields.
You could be "Mrs. Kents."Copy !req
33. - I like the sound of that.
- This is turning into a bigtime operation.Copy !req
34. Thanks. I've added
two convenience stores...Copy !req
35. and the retirement center
to my client list.Copy !req
36. That's great.Copy !req
37. What?Copy !req
38. I don't see how we'll pay
the feed bill this month.Copy !req
39. - I could get an extension on our credit.
- We're already three months behind.Copy !req
40. - Henry's a friend, he'll understand.
- He already said no.Copy !req
41. My salary from Lionel isn't enough.
What are we gonna do?Copy !req
42. I don't know, we don't have
a whole lot of options here.Copy !req
43. There is one call we can make.Copy !req
44. Maybe we should talk to my father.Copy !req
45. Why is it whenever anyone
mentions Granddad...Copy !req
46. everyone becomes quiet
and uncomfortable?Copy !req
47. - Isn't it weird I've never met the guy?
- Clark, I'm...Copy !req
48. I'm sorry that you haven't had a relationship
with your grandpa, I really am.Copy !req
49. But there's too much bad blood.Copy !req
50. I'm sorry, but I've got work to do.Copy !req
51. - Lana, where would you like these?
- You can just put them on the counter.Copy !req
52. - Getting ready for the Spirit Week bash?
- Trying to.Copy !req
53. I think Nell's used the projection booth
as her personal storage since the late '70s.Copy !req
54. What are those?Copy !req
55. Clark, these photos are
of my mom and some guy.Copy !req
56. Maybe he's an old boyfriend.Copy !req
57. They were taken when
my parents were married.Copy !req
58. Maybe he was just a friend.Copy !req
59. - I'm sure you're right.
- Right about what?Copy !req
60. The mystery man with Lana's mother.Copy !req
61. Hey, they make an attractive couple.Copy !req
62. And there could be a million explanations.
Who do you think it is?Copy !req
63. I don't know,
but I'll bet Nell does.Copy !req
64. Then mystery solved.
I wish they were all this easy.Copy !req
65. Well, it's late, we should
get to school.Copy !req
66. - I'm heading that way, if you need a lift.
- I've got the first two periods off.Copy !req
67. - Clark?
- No, I was just gonna run.Copy !req
68. I don't think you could outrun
my Porsche, Clark.Copy !req
69. Excuse me. What's going on?
I need to get in there.Copy !req
70. - You should've been here earlier, Mr...?
- Kent. Clark Kent.Copy !req
71. Of course. I noticed in your records
you have a penchant for tardiness.Copy !req
72. - Who exactly are you?
- I'm Mr. Reynolds, your new principal.Copy !req
73. - Oh, nice to meet you.
- Yes.Copy !req
74. So you're aware,
from now on...Copy !req
75. this gate locks when the bell rings
and doesn't open until school is out.Copy !req
76. I'd...Copy !req
77. I'd appreciate it if you'd give Clark
a pass. He was late because of me.Copy !req
78. Lex Luthor.Copy !req
79. The Porsche, the attitude. Somehow
I'm not surprised you're involved.Copy !req
80. - You know each other.
- Mr. Reynolds was headmaster...Copy !req
81. at Excelsior Prep
during my stay there.Copy !req
82. You might find this hard
to believe, Lex...Copy !req
83. but people should take responsibility
for their own actions.Copy !req
84. - It won't happen again.
- I'm keeping my eye on you, Mr. Kent.Copy !req
85. The next time it happens,
automatic detention.Copy !req
86. Catch you later, Clark.Copy !req
87. Spare the rod, spoil the child. You haven't
changed. What's next, school uniforms?Copy !req
88. I'd appreciate it if you'd stay away
from my school and my students, Luthor.Copy !req
89. Listen, I know we had our share
of run-ins at Excelsior, but I was 14.Copy !req
90. Don't you think it's petty to be
holding a grudge?Copy !req
91. That's awfully noble,
coming from a Luthor.Copy !req
92. I'm a little confused.Copy !req
93. Exactly what did I do
to earn such enmity?Copy !req
94. Goodbye, Lex.Copy !req
95. Kristine Parker?Copy !req
96. - I'm Principal Reynolds.
- Hi, nice to finally meet you.Copy !req
97. - Did you get my memo about the uniforms?
- I did. Thank you, I'm looking into it.Copy !req
98. I understand you're the visionary
behind our Spirit Week activities.Copy !req
99. Well, I just want everyone
to have the best time ever.Copy !req
100. I admire your enthusiasm.Copy !req
101. I was going through the student files,
trying to get to know everyone better...Copy !req
102. and I noticed we don't have
the transcripts from your last school.Copy !req
103. That's weird. But it figures,
my guidance counselor was a total ditz.Copy !req
104. We need a copy on file. If you can
have your parents forward it...Copy !req
105. - I'd appreciate it.
- No problem, I'll tell them tonight.Copy !req
106. I see Troy's death has joined the ranks
of the unexplained and bizarre.Copy !req
107. Big time. The report said he died of an
onset of a rapid aging disease, progeria. Hi.Copy !req
108. I thought that made you age
over 10 years, not 10 seconds.Copy !req
109. Exactly. The coroner's running a test
to tell whether Troy had progeria, or...Copy !req
110. Something unexplained and bizarre.Copy !req
111. Good luck investigating. You'll probably
need a hall pass from our new principal.Copy !req
112. A lot of schools have
a closed-campus policy.Copy !req
113. - Why you so worked up?
- I had a run-in with him.Copy !req
114. He busted me for being late.
Threatened to keep his eye on me.Copy !req
115. Clark's on the principal's bad boy list.
First time for everything.Copy !req
116. - Guy's a real hard case.
- Right.Copy !req
117. First, it's a lock-down, next thing you know
he'll be burning books.Copy !req
118. Wait till he comes after The Torch.Copy !req
119. I did some digging on our Principal Reynolds
to find out his views on the fourth estate.Copy !req
120. Harvard, B.A.
Ph. D. At Columbia in education.Copy !req
121. Taught at prep schools all over Europe and
the East Coast. Pretty impressive resume.Copy !req
122. His name was mentioned as the new head
of the Metropolis Board of Education.Copy !req
123. Till one day he's dismissed
from Excelsior Prep...Copy !req
124. and he doesn't work
again until here.Copy !req
125. How does a guy on the fast track
end up in Smallville?Copy !req
126. I don't know, but he's not
Wall of Weird material.Copy !req
127. Just because the guy doesn't love you
like every other teacher in this school...Copy !req
128. doesn't mean that he's hiding
some dark past.Copy !req
129. Hey. Came by to see if
you needed a hand.Copy !req
130. Thought you were helping
your mom this afternoon.Copy !req
131. - She said she's got it covered.
- Something wrong?Copy !req
132. My mom's been secretive
the last couple days.Copy !req
133. A Kent secretive, that's shocking.Copy !req
134. - It has to do with my grandfather.
- You've never mentioned him.Copy !req
135. I've never actually met him.
I've only seen old pictures.Copy !req
136. - Do you know anything about him?
- He was a corporate lawyer in Metropolis.Copy !req
137. He and my grandmother
retired to Coast City.Copy !req
138. When I was in sixth grade,
I decided to call him. I left messages...Copy !req
139. but he never called back.
Guess he wasn't interested.Copy !req
140. All these years I had this image
of the Kents as the perfect family.Copy !req
141. I guess we're just as dysfunctional
as everyone else.Copy !req
142. I never did pressure my parents
for the story.Copy !req
143. Maybe you didn't want to know.Copy !req
144. Maybe it's easier to live
with the image than the truth.Copy !req
145. Looks like we're both dealing
with secrets out of the past.Copy !req
146. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do, but this
is your chance to get some answers.Copy !req
147. I'll catch up with you later?Copy !req
148. Lana, the place looks fantastic.Copy !req
149. - You've done a really good job here.
- Thanks.Copy !req
150. - I wanted to talk to you about something.
- Yeah, what is it?Copy !req
151. These pictures.Copy !req
152. Do you know who he is?Copy !req
153. Must have been one of your mom's
old boyfriends.Copy !req
154. They were taken after Mom and Dad
were already married.Copy !req
155. Just a year before I was born.Copy !req
156. Lana, what's this about?Copy !req
157. I'm not sure.Copy !req
158. Listen to me.Copy !req
159. Your mother...Copy !req
160. She loved you and your father more
than anything else in this world.Copy !req
161. She never would have done anything
to hurt either of you.Copy !req
162. You know that, don't you?Copy !req
163. Hi, Dad.Copy !req
164. I appreciate you making the trip.Copy !req
165. I was surprised to get
your message.Copy !req
166. Must have taken a lot for Jonathan
to ask for my help.Copy !req
167. Jonathan is at the co-op in Granville.
He doesn't know I called.Copy !req
168. I should have known.Copy !req
169. I imagined this place differently.Copy !req
170. But it's not the life I wanted
for you, Martha.Copy !req
171. I'm happy, Dad. It's a good life.Copy !req
172. For some people, maybe.
But you had so much potential.Copy !req
173. Top 10 in your class. You could have gone
to any law school you wanted.Copy !req
174. I had hoped you'd take over
my practice.Copy !req
175. I never wanted to be a lawyer.
This is the life I chose.Copy !req
176. This is the life Jonathan
chose for you.Copy !req
177. - You just went along for the ride.
- This isn't about Jonathan.Copy !req
178. You raised an independent daughter.
You're angry because you got that.Copy !req
179. Here you are, 20 years later, going behind
your husband's back asking me for money.Copy !req
180. - Mom?
- Clark.Copy !req
181. I thought you were at the Talon.Copy !req
182. I finished early. What's up?Copy !req
183. Clark, this is your grandfather.Copy !req
184. - Pleased to meet you, sir.
- Hello, Clark.Copy !req
185. I'll...Copy !req
186. I'll be at the motel.Copy !req
187. I'll have a cashier's check drawn
tomorrow morning.Copy !req
188. Why don't you stay with us?
We have plenty of room.Copy !req
189. I don't think that would be
a very good idea, Clark.Copy !req
190. Well, how about dinner?Copy !req
191. One meal as a family.Copy !req
192. I'm sorry.Copy !req
193. I don't want your father having anything
to do with our finances.Copy !req
194. Jonathan, what was I supposed to do?Copy !req
195. - Wait until the bank foreclosed?
- I wish you'd said something to me first.Copy !req
196. - What's the harm in hearing him out?
- You don't have to be the mediator.Copy !req
197. - I wish things could be different.
- Why can't they be?Copy !req
198. You told me to look for the best in people.
Maybe he's trying to put this behind him.Copy !req
199. I seriously doubt that, Clark.Copy !req
200. What happened that was
so bad?Copy !req
201. It can't be any worse than
what's in the storm cellar.Copy !req
202. Or can it?Copy !req
203. When your mother and I decided to get
married, I went to him to ask for her hand.Copy !req
204. - What'd he say?
- I remember his exact words:Copy !req
205. "I will not let my daughter throw her life
away by marrying a hick farmer...Copy !req
206. that couldn't possibly
support her."Copy !req
207. - Well, that's harsh.
- That's the way he dealt with people.Copy !req
208. When he realized we were serious
about getting married, he lost it.Copy !req
209. - He tried to shove me out of his office.
- What happened?Copy !req
210. I hit him.Copy !req
211. I'm not proud of that,
I tried to apologize to him.Copy !req
212. He wouldn't have anything to do
with it. Your grandfather and I...Copy !req
213. - haven't said a word to each other since.
- That was 20 years ago.Copy !req
214. He was willing to drive out here,
maybe he wants to try again.Copy !req
215. Believe me, Clark, he's not here to help.
He's here to gloat.Copy !req
216. Hey, I got a message you wanted
to see me. Everything all right?Copy !req
217. I was wondering if you could
do me a favor.Copy !req
218. I take it Nell couldn't identify
the mystery man?Copy !req
219. If she could, she wouldn't
tell me anything.Copy !req
220. I wanna know who it is.Copy !req
221. Well, that shouldn't be
hard to find.Copy !req
222. But coming to terms with it could prove
to be more complicated.Copy !req
223. What do you mean?Copy !req
224. Come on, you know the story
of Pandora.Copy !req
225. She was given a box by Zeus
and warned never to open it.Copy !req
226. - She couldn't resist the temptation.
- I'm not afraid of the truth.Copy !req
227. Neither was Pandora. But once the box
was open, it could never be closed.Copy !req
228. All the misery could
never be put back.Copy !req
229. I appreciate the warning.
And anything you can tell me.Copy !req
230. Go, Crows!Copy !req
231. - Hey, Chloe.
- Hey, Clark.Copy !req
232. Clark, you might want to disappear
for the next hour or so.Copy !req
233. - Why's that?
- I'm about to interview...Copy !req
234. your new best friend,
Principal Reynolds.Copy !req
235. Thanks for the heads up.Copy !req
236. - What have you got there?
- Remember my buddy...Copy !req
237. - that works at the M.E.'s office?
- The guy with the black fingernail polish.Copy !req
238. It's hard being Smallville's only goth.
He sent me the autopsy report of Troy.Copy !req
239. It's amazing what lending someone
your eyeliner can get you.Copy !req
240. So Troy didn't have progeria.Copy !req
241. No, but his pituitary gland, which produces
a hormone that controls the aging process...Copy !req
242. was completely drained. Like someone
just sucked the youth out of him.Copy !req
243. Well, that's quite an assumption,
Miss Sullivan.Copy !req
244. Principal Reynolds.Copy !req
245. I was just running through
various scenarios, you know...Copy !req
246. wild theories and stuff.
I'm shutting up now.Copy !req
247. Well, don't. I like my students
thinking outside the box.Copy !req
248. I've been reading back issues
of The Torch.Copy !req
249. I see a lot of creativity
and insight there.Copy !req
250. - You're kidding.
- Well, unverified insight.Copy !req
251. But many a Pulitzer has sprung
from the seeds of wild theories.Copy !req
252. Just make sure you can back
them up.Copy !req
253. That'll be the difference between
writing trash for The Inquisitor...Copy !req
254. and reporting for The Daily Planet.Copy !req
255. - Are you still up for that interview?
- Well, give me half an hour.Copy !req
256. Mr. Kent.Copy !req
257. I was actually looking for you.Copy !req
258. I'd like to see you in my office.Copy !req
259. - You look like you feel a little out of place.
- I've never been in the principal's office.Copy !req
260. You can start by sitting.
I'll cut right to the chase.Copy !req
261. I think you're a slacker.Copy !req
262. Quit the football team before you
played the first game...Copy !req
263. chronic tardiness,
zero extracurriculars.Copy !req
264. I get very good grades and I write
for The Torch occasionally.Copy !req
265. Retyping the cafeteria menu
isn't exactly writing.Copy !req
266. I see a lot of untapped potential
in you, Mr. Kent.Copy !req
267. Mr. Reynolds, I don't understand, we just
met. How could you judge me so quickly?Copy !req
268. How do you know Lex Luthor?Copy !req
269. Well, he's a friend of mine. Why?Copy !req
270. A person is judged by
the company they keep.Copy !req
271. Lex Luthor doesn't have friends.
He sees people as a means towards an end.Copy !req
272. I don't think that's true.Copy !req
273. Time will tell. Frankly, I'm more interested
in your world. What are your goals?Copy !req
274. Well, I'd like to help people.Copy !req
275. Something like that.Copy !req
276. Helping people is a noble aspiration.
It's also rather vague.Copy !req
277. Where are you gonna be
five years from now?Copy !req
278. To tell the truth,
I'm not really sure.Copy !req
279. Well, I'm gonna help you to focus.Copy !req
280. I want you to write a five-page essay on
where you're gonna be five years from now.Copy !req
281. And I want it on my desk
by the end of the school day on Friday.Copy !req
282. Sir, why are you doing this to me?Copy !req
283. This isn't punishment, Mr. Kent.Copy !req
284. Consider it a challenge.Copy !req
285. Clark, hey. Just in time to volunteer
for the decorations committee.Copy !req
286. Actually, I've gotta finish my essay
for Mr. Reynolds.Copy !req
287. That's a bummer. What's it about?Copy !req
288. What the future theoretically
holds for me.Copy !req
289. Who cares about the future?Copy !req
290. - I like to think there's life after high school.
- Sure.Copy !req
291. Yeah, as in a job, responsibilities,
getting old.Copy !req
292. - Is everything all right?
- Of course.Copy !req
293. Krissy, we've got the lighting
the way you want it.Copy !req
294. Great. Let's see what you got.Copy !req
295. Let me guess.Copy !req
296. Reynolds wants to know where you
see yourself five years from now?Copy !req
297. He made me do that assignment
when I was at Excelsior.Copy !req
298. He's nothing if not consistent.Copy !req
299. He doesn't exactly have
a high opinion of you.Copy !req
300. I wasn't a model student, but imagine being
a bald 14-year-old in an elite prep school.Copy !req
301. - Must have been tough.
- I had a major chip on my shoulder.Copy !req
302. But Reynolds saw through it.Copy !req
303. He challenged me to own up to my actions,
not to assume the mantle of the rich kid.Copy !req
304. He was tough but fair.
I liked him for that.Copy !req
305. I wish the feeling was mutual. Whatever he
has against you, he's taking it out on me.Copy !req
306. I'm sorry being friends with me
comes with such a high price.Copy !req
307. So exactly how long were you planning
to work on this essay?Copy !req
308. I'm just not ready to go home yet.Copy !req
309. - Something wrong?
- No, it's just family stuff.Copy !req
310. Come on, Clark, I'm the king
of family dysfunction.Copy !req
311. My father and grandfather hate each other,
and I feel caught in the middle.Copy !req
312. And you'd like to play peacemaker.Copy !req
313. Best thing to do is put them in a room
and let them fight it out.Copy !req
314. So you're saying I should
play hardball.Copy !req
315. That's up to you, but...Copy !req
316. it'll take that sort of determination to
bring your father and grandfather together.Copy !req
317. What do you think?Copy !req
318. Perfect.Copy !req
319. - Thank you for doing this, Russell.
- It's been a weird week.Copy !req
320. - Feels good to be doing something.
- I know you and Troy were friends.Copy !req
321. I really miss him.Copy !req
322. Well, that's why I came to see you,
Russell.Copy !req
323. For Troy.Copy !req
324. For the others.Copy !req
325. The others?
What are you talking about?Copy !req
326. The ones who will live inside me forever.Copy !req
327. Hey, Dad, got a minute?Copy !req
328. You gotta talk to me while we're working.
We got a lot to do before it gets dark.Copy !req
329. There's someone I want you to see.Copy !req
330. - Your mother put you up to this?
- No, this was all my idea.Copy !req
331. Don't blame the boy.Copy !req
332. The problems we have are between us.
Martha says you need help.Copy !req
333. I'm here to give it.Copy !req
334. - So now you want to be part of this family?
- I don't want anything from you.Copy !req
335. I brought a check because
I won't watch my daughter suffer.Copy !req
336. - Couldn't resist turning that knife?
- Dad, give him a chance.Copy !req
337. - You two can work this out.
- I don't think so, son.Copy !req
338. It's just like 20 years ago,
the same argument and attitude.Copy !req
339. Not quite. It has been 20 years.
But everything I predicted has come true.Copy !req
340. I knew Martha was making
a big mistake when she married you.Copy !req
341. That's not true, Granddad.Copy !req
342. You'll have to swallow
your pride to save this farm.Copy !req
343. I don't need a lecture on how
to take care of my family.Copy !req
344. You're just as stubborn and pig-headed
as you were the day we met.Copy !req
345. You get off my land.Copy !req
346. Gladly.Copy !req
347. Granddad, wait.Copy !req
348. - It wasn't supposed to be like this.
- Just let him go, son.Copy !req
349. I know you had good intentions...Copy !req
350. but some things just can't change.Copy !req
351. Let's unload the truck.Copy !req
352. - Clark, wait up.
- Hey.Copy !req
353. You look like the wind got
knocked out of you.Copy !req
354. I'm just dealing with
some family issues.Copy !req
355. You want to talk about it?Copy !req
356. The more I talk about it,
the worse they get.Copy !req
357. Did you guys hear about Russell?
They found his body behind the Talon.Copy !req
358. - What happened?
- He aged, like, 100 years.Copy !req
359. The police thought it was a homeless guy
until they found his ID.Copy !req
360. Two progeria deaths in two days,
what are the odds?Copy !req
361. Lana wanted to cancel the Spirit Week party
but Principal Reynolds asked her not to.Copy !req
362. He said he wanted to
keep things normal.Copy !req
363. He obviously hasn't had his normal meter
reset for Smallville.Copy !req
364. - What is it, Clark?
- I saw Russell with Krissy at the Talon.Copy !req
365. Troy was with her
before he went geriatric.Copy !req
366. - It's not exactly a smoking gun.
- It's worth a look.Copy !req
367. We could check out her old records.
See if there's anything strange.Copy !req
368. I'll get started
and I'll tell you what I find.Copy !req
369. Interesting choice.Copy !req
370. The Count of Monte Cristo.Copy !req
371. Classic tale of a man whose past
comes back to haunt him.Copy !req
372. Why are you here, Lex?Copy !req
373. We're upgrading our computer system
at the plant.Copy !req
374. Thought we might donate our
old computers to Smallville High.Copy !req
375. You are not an alumnus.Copy !req
376. Call it a thank-you.Copy !req
377. You pushed me.
And in hindsight, I appreciate that.Copy !req
378. In some ways, you're responsible
for the man I am today.Copy !req
379. I'm not sure that's a burden
I care to take on.Copy !req
380. Besides the tax deduction,
what's the quid pro quo?Copy !req
381. Now, why do you think
I want anything in return?Copy !req
382. Because I've learned there's always a price
when dealing with the Luthors.Copy !req
383. I want you to stop turning your antagonism
towards me against Clark Kent.Copy !req
384. Lionel has taught you well.Copy !req
385. - My father?
- Yes. This meeting?Copy !req
386. It reminds me of the incident
that almost got you expelled.Copy !req
387. - He had nothing to do with that.
- No, only later.Copy !req
388. After receiving notice of
your expulsion hearing...Copy !req
389. he generously offered the school's
trustees a new library, with two conditions:Copy !req
390. That you were allowed to stay,
and I was allowed to go.Copy !req
391. History has an interesting way
of repeating itself, doesn't it?Copy !req
392. Clark, I hope I'm not interrupting.Copy !req
393. No, I could use the inspiration. I thought
you'd be swamped with party prep by now.Copy !req
394. I was heading over to the Talon,
but this arrived at my house.Copy !req
395. I asked Lex to look into those photos
of my mother.Copy !req
396. You think there's more to it
than meets the eye?Copy !req
397. I don't know, he sent me this.
I haven't opened it yet.Copy !req
398. As badly as I want the truth,
I'm afraid I won't like what I find.Copy !req
399. Why the change of heart?Copy !req
400. The image of my parents the way
I thought they were is all I have.Copy !req
401. You don't want to lose that.Copy !req
402. Maybe just by doubting, I already have.Copy !req
403. How are things with your grandfather?Copy !req
404. "Disaster" is an understatement.Copy !req
405. I took him to see my father.
It was like watching history repeat itself.Copy !req
406. So, what's next?Copy !req
407. I hate to see it end like this.Copy !req
408. But I can't control the way
they act around each other.Copy !req
409. Are you gonna try again?Copy !req
410. I can't do anything about the past.
Maybe I can do something about the future.Copy !req
411. - Clark.
- I don't want our relationship to end...Copy !req
412. before it ever had a chance to begin.Copy !req
413. Well, you can come in
if you want.Copy !req
414. But you'll have to excuse me,
I'm running a little late.Copy !req
415. There's something I wanted
to show you.Copy !req
416. It's our photo album.Copy !req
417. School plays, camping trips, backyard
activities, stuff that families do together.Copy !req
418. I wanted you to see our family
the way I do.Copy !req
419. We're more than old arguments
and overdue bills.Copy !req
420. I'd like you to give this
to your mother.Copy !req
421. It's a cashier's check. Tell her she can
use it now, a year from now...Copy !req
422. - whenever she needs it.
- Why don't you give it to her yourself?Copy !req
423. I'm sorry, Clark.Copy !req
424. I don't understand how a man who hasn't
seen his family in 20 years can walk away.Copy !req
425. - Krissy, I need to talk to you.
- Is there a problem, Mr. Reynolds?Copy !req
426. I left three messages for your parents,
still no answer.Copy !req
427. They've been really busy.Copy !req
428. - Is this still about my transcripts?
- And you.Copy !req
429. I've been making an effort to get
to know the students and parents.Copy !req
430. Maybe I can come by your house
this weekend when they're home.Copy !req
431. They'll be at the Talon for the rally.Copy !req
432. - You could meet us there before the party.
- That'll be fine, see you there.Copy !req
433. Where have you been?
I left you six messages.Copy !req
434. - Sorry, it's been a weird day.
- Well, it's about to get weirder. Take a look.Copy !req
435. Florida, 12 years ago,
Piper High School.Copy !req
436. Three students died of the same
mysterious? Ber-progeria.Copy !req
437. All in a 48-hour period.
Let me guess, Krissy was involved.Copy !req
438. Try "Missy."Copy !req
439. Class of '90, Missy Parker.Copy !req
440. - Different name, same face.
- Yeah, it gets better.Copy !req
441. Lakewood High, Class of '81...
There she is again.Copy !req
442. You won't believe this. I matched Krissy
to triple progeria cases...Copy !req
443. going back to Hammond
School for Girls, class of 1921.Copy !req
444. It's like she feeds off youth
to stay young.Copy !req
445. Takes the Peter Pan complex
to a whole new level.Copy !req
446. Troy was killed almost two days ago,
Russell was killed yesterday.Copy !req
447. - Krissy's gonna need another victim.
- I'll call the police.Copy !req
448. Clark?Copy !req
449. Krissy?Copy !req
450. Krissy?Copy !req
451. Mr. Reynolds.Copy !req
452. So, what do you think?Copy !req
453. I think you've taken Spirit Week
to a whole new level.Copy !req
454. - Are your parents here yet?
- Actually, Mr. Reynolds...Copy !req
455. they died. Over a century ago.Copy !req
456. What are you talking about?Copy !req
457. See, I've seen the future, Mr. Reynolds,
again and again...Copy !req
458. and I've learned one thing:Copy !req
459. These are the best years
of anyone's life.Copy !req
460. Clark, thought you were the band.Copy !req
461. If they don't show, we're stuck with
a half-dozen MP3s and my boom box.Copy !req
462. Have you seen Krissy?Copy !req
463. Yeah, she was just here.Copy !req
464. - What's going on?
- Just go lock the door, don't let anyone in.Copy !req
465. Krissy, stop!
I know what's going on.Copy !req
466. You need help.Copy !req
467. I need him.Copy !req
468. I'm not gonna let you
hurt anyone else.Copy !req
469. I am saving them, Clark.Copy !req
470. From lives that will never be as happy
as they are right now.Copy !req
471. - There's more to life than cheerleading.
- You're wrong.Copy !req
472. You will never be this young,
this beautiful...Copy !req
473. or this perfect again.Copy !req
474. But I will.Copy !req
475. - More bills, huh, Dad?
- Yeah.Copy !req
476. Seems like these darned things
keep right on coming.Copy !req
477. Clark, you've had quite a week.
Any fallout from school?Copy !req
478. - Spirit Week is officially kaput.
- I'm sorry to hear that.Copy !req
479. Principal's gonna be okay.Copy !req
480. He warned me about being late
when they loaded him into the ambulance.Copy !req
481. I know the situation with your grandpa
is bugging you. It should, but...Copy !req
482. I went to go see him.Copy !req
483. He asked me to give this to you.Copy !req
484. He said he tried to get involved
in my life after the adoption.Copy !req
485. Why wouldn't you let him see me?Copy !req
486. Well, it's complicated.Copy !req
487. It can't be that complicated,
he's my grandfather.Copy !req
488. Clark, when you were a little boy...Copy !req
489. you couldn't control
your abilities like now.Copy !req
490. If he'd spent any time with us, I think
he might have found out your secret.Copy !req
491. He's family.Copy !req
492. We had such a history of disagreeing
on things...Copy !req
493. we just didn't know how he'd react.Copy !req
494. We couldn't be sure we could trust him.Copy !req
495. So he's not a part of our lives
because of me?Copy !req
496. Son, every young man wants to have
a relationship with his grandpa.Copy !req
497. But in your case,
it just may not be possible.Copy !req
498. Lana.Copy !req
499. - Working on something important?
- Just finished my essay.Copy !req
500. - So where you gonna be in five years?
- In college, probably studying journalism.Copy !req
501. You're kidding.Copy !req
502. Don't tell Chloe,
but I think it's growing on me.Copy !req
503. I like to find the truth behind things.
I'm tired of having secrets in my life.Copy !req
504. And personally?Copy !req
505. I've decided I'm gonna find a way to have
a relationship with my grandfather.Copy !req
506. How about you, is everything okay?Copy !req
507. Clark, I read Lex's file.Copy !req
508. According to court papers,
my parents filed for divorce in 1985.Copy !req
509. Irreconcilable differences.Copy !req
510. - But they worked it out, right?
- Eventually.Copy !req
511. But they were legally separated
for over a year.Copy !req
512. - So the guy in the picture...?
- Could be more than a friend.Copy !req
513. I was born right after my parents
got back together.Copy !req
514. My father could still be alive.Copy !req
