1. You're putting a lot of time into
this equestrian show.Copy !req
2. I didn't realize its importance.Copy !req
3. I'm inviting the Smalls to come watch me
ride in this weekend's competition.Copy !req
4. Oh. Well, I take it everything's good
on the father-daughter front.Copy !req
5. Actually, they're great.Copy !req
6. Well, this could actually work out, then.Copy !req
7. Let's just say I'm cautiously optimistic.Copy !req
8. I keep living my life
waiting for the other shoe to drop.Copy !req
9. You deserve to be happy.Copy !req
10. Thanks, Clark.Copy !req
11. Clark, what happened to you?Copy !req
12. Story deadline...?Copy !req
13. - Stop me when I'm getting warm.
- My article about the debate team. Chloe...Copy !req
14. I'm really sorry.
I got caught up helping Lana.Copy !req
15. I'll get it to you first thing tomorrow.Copy !req
16. Well, unfortunately, Clark,
I needed it tonight.Copy !req
17. To fill in the hole, I had to blow up
the lunch menu to a 60-point type.Copy !req
18. - I'm sure that'll be fascinating.
- Chloe, it's my fault.Copy !req
19. - I asked Clark to help me.
- No, Lana, I don't blame you.Copy !req
20. Well, I'm gonna go lock up in the back.Copy !req
21. - Thanks again for your help.
- Yeah.Copy !req
22. Chloe, I'll make it up to you. I promise.Copy !req
23. I can't say that makes me feel any better,
given your track record on promises.Copy !req
24. It's one story, what's the big deal?Copy !req
25. That you couldn't give up
one riding practice to do.Copy !req
26. - Don't make this about Lana.
- I'm not. This is about you.Copy !req
27. And your perennial inability
to be there when I need you.Copy !req
28. - Don't you think you're being a little harsh?
- No. I don't.Copy !req
29. I'm never a priority in your life, I'm always
just your backup plan and I'm tired of it.Copy !req
30. - That's ridiculous.
- Is it?Copy !req
31. If that's the way you feel,
maybe I should quit.Copy !req
32. Maybe you should.Copy !req
33. Fine. I quit.Copy !req
34. Help me get this stuff out of the back!Copy !req
35. Right.Copy !req
36. Hey!Copy !req
37. - What do you think you're doing?
- Get out of here!Copy !req
38. Hey!Copy !req
39. Hurry up, dude. Hurry up.Copy !req
40. Okay, let's go. Let's go!Copy !req
41. I got it. I got it.Copy !req
42. It actually hurt.Copy !req
43. - What'd you tell the police?
- I left beforehand.Copy !req
44. You witnessed a crime.
You have an obligation to report it.Copy !req
45. And put myself back on
Sheriff Adams' radar? I don't think so.Copy !req
46. What could I tell her,
I used my x-ray vision to see the plate?Copy !req
47. All right, I understand. Just calm down,
what else did you see?Copy !req
48. He was wearing a class ring.Copy !req
49. I think he goes to Smallville High.Copy !req
50. Just because he has a class ring
doesn't necessarily mean he goes here.Copy !req
51. I mean, he could be a graduate.Copy !req
52. Meanwhile, in Lana-land,
looks like your ship's finally come in.Copy !req
53. - Oh, I mean, we're...
- "Just friends."Copy !req
54. You better invest in a new set of cue cards.
I've never seen her so happy.Copy !req
55. Well, I wish it was just me, but Lana's been
walking on air since her dad stepped up.Copy !req
56. Pete, who's that guy?Copy !req
57. You mean Eric Marsh?Copy !req
58. You really need to pick up a sports page.Copy !req
59. All right, Eric, show us what you got.Copy !req
60. Let's go, Eric. Step up.Copy !req
61. All right, give me some heat.Copy !req
62. - Nice swing.
- Yeah.Copy !req
63. Eric's got the highest batting average
in Smallville High history.Copy !req
64. He really put the team on the map.Copy !req
65. Rumor has it they're getting sponsorship
for equipment and uniforms because of him.Copy !req
66. Not to mention the scouts that have
suddenly added a detour to Smallville.Copy !req
67. Funny thing, though...Copy !req
68. he used to suck.Copy !req
69. What do you mean?Copy !req
70. We played on the same
Little League team for five years.Copy !req
71. He was always a benchwarmer.Copy !req
72. When did he go from zero to hero?Copy !req
73. Not sure.Copy !req
74. Sometimes you work hard enough,
you get your dream.Copy !req
75. Or he's under some
pharmaceutical enhancement.Copy !req
76. You thinking steroids?Copy !req
77. Right now, I don't know what to think.Copy !req
78. Lex.Copy !req
79. It's been too long.Copy !req
80. And I thought we agreed to keep
face-to-face contact to a minimum.Copy !req
81. For business, perhaps. This is a social call.Copy !req
82. I've come to offer my congratulations
on your engagement.Copy !req
83. Though I admit, I...Copy !req
84. It hurt that I had to learn
of your pending nuptials...Copy !req
85. via the gossip pages of the Inquisitor.Copy !req
86. Come on, Dad.Copy !req
87. Since when has my personal happiness
ever been of the slightest interest to you?Copy !req
88. And where is...Copy !req
89. - Helen?
Helen.Copy !req
90. Helen's out of town at a medical seminar.Copy !req
91. I suspect your visit would be putting her
anger management techniques to the test.Copy !req
92. But then we both know you're not here
to discuss my wedding plans.Copy !req
93. Oh, what is this?Copy !req
94. Oh, Lex, I'm surprised that you would...Copy !req
95. put stock in the reportage
of a high-school newspaper.Copy !req
96. I usually don't...Copy !req
97. but I did some checking of my own
and Io and behold, it's true.Copy !req
98. What are you moving in the middle
of the night in unmarked trucks?Copy !req
99. Nothing out of the ordinary.Copy !req
100. I'd hate to think that you'd stoop to use
common thuggery to get back at me, son.Copy !req
101. Wait a minute.Copy !req
102. Are you insinuating that I had something
to do with robbing your truck?Copy !req
103. Dad.Copy !req
104. That would be illegal.Copy !req
105. Legalities are inconsequential.
I would want my property returned.Copy !req
106. For what it's worth...Copy !req
107. I had nothing to do with it. But the fact
that you came this far to ask intrigues me.Copy !req
108. What's in there that's so important to you?Copy !req
109. Give my regards to...Copy !req
110. your fiancee.Copy !req
111. Enjoy.Copy !req
112. Henry. This is a surprise.Copy !req
113. Well, I was in the neighborhood.Copy !req
114. Regular coffee, no additives. And when
you come by three times a week...Copy !req
115. you don't need the excuse.Copy !req
116. I guess some small part of me
is still getting used to all this.Copy !req
117. What, dropping by for a casual visit
with your daughter?Copy !req
118. No, entering a business co-owned
by Luthor without an injunction in my hand.Copy !req
119. Thanks. But it's been worth it.Copy !req
120. I feel the same way.Copy !req
121. - What's this?
- The seating chart for this weekend's show.Copy !req
122. They set aside a section
for riders' families.Copy !req
123. I took a leap and reserved
a couple of seats for you and Jennifer.Copy !req
124. Lana, that was thoughtful.Copy !req
125. Yes, I'll definitely be there.Copy !req
126. But Jennifer won't.Copy !req
127. She's never really accepted me, has she?Copy !req
128. She just doesn't know you like I do.Copy !req
129. Give her some time, she'll come around.Copy !req
130. Pete, check this out.
Before Eric's sudden sports career...Copy !req
131. he was an honors chemistry student
with a straight-A average.Copy !req
132. Guess you don't get the babes
and the free Nikes for that.Copy !req
133. It says here he was in
a chemistry lab explosion...Copy !req
134. at Kansas State University
last summer during chemistry camp.Copy !req
135. That's probably why
he's got the plate in his head.Copy !req
136. Yeah, but what's he doing
knocking over a LuthorCorp truck?Copy !req
137. I thought you quit the Torch.Copy !req
138. Just clearing out my desk.Copy !req
139. Wait a minute, you quit?Copy !req
140. Apparently I can't be counted on.Copy !req
141. I didn't even know quitting was an option.Copy !req
142. Funny.Copy !req
143. Tough crowd.
Hey, I'll catch up with you later.Copy !req
144. - Keep me posted on Eric.
- Yeah.Copy !req
145. Marsh? Why are you guys interested in him?Copy !req
146. Doesn't matter.Copy !req
147. Clark, I didn't ask you to quit the Torch.Copy !req
148. Yeah, but all I do is disappoint you.Copy !req
149. I didn't say that.Copy !req
150. I just said it seems like you drop everything
for Lana with no regard for anyone else.Copy !req
151. I thought this wasn't about Lana.Copy !req
152. It's not.Copy !req
153. - It's not.
- Every time you see us together...Copy !req
154. you look at me like I'm cheating on you.Copy !req
155. I'm sorry, but if that's the way you feel...Copy !req
156. maybe we shouldn't hang out anymore.Copy !req
157. Tell me it's working, boys.Copy !req
158. This stuff's incredible.Copy !req
159. Another score
and we'll take it out on the street.Copy !req
160. Yep, as long as there's enough for me.Copy !req
161. I got a major league scout
coming to watch me next week.Copy !req
162. Then you can make the next batch, champ.Copy !req
163. - Who do we have here?
- Hold him.Copy !req
164. You're not going anywhere.Copy !req
165. Were you following me, Kent?Copy !req
166. I know you robbed that truck.Copy !req
167. You're pretty smart.Copy !req
168. But you see, I'm smart too.Copy !req
169. I finally found a way
to have everything I wanted...Copy !req
170. and nobody is gonna mess that up.Copy !req
171. You don't know what you're doing.Copy !req
172. Looks like you know about the meteor rock.Copy !req
173. It's dangerous. I've seen
what it can do to people.Copy !req
174. Like get me a multimillion-dollar
contract in the majors?Copy !req
175. He knows too much.Copy !req
176. All right, get up.Copy !req
177. If he goes, our problem goes with him.Copy !req
178. We don't know who else he told.
Let's pack up and get out of here.Copy !req
179. Let's go, man. Put this in the back.Copy !req
180. - Clark. Oh, my God, what happened?
- I saw one of the hijackers.Copy !req
181. He goes to our school. I followed him
to the old foundry. They jumped me.Copy !req
182. Clark, you still couldn't stop them?Copy !req
183. No, I think it has to do with
refined kryptonite.Copy !req
184. They had kryptonite bars,
the same ones that were in Lionel's safe.Copy !req
185. That's what they stole from the truck.Copy !req
186. Clark, what would they be doing
with kryptonite?Copy !req
187. Melting it down and inhaling it. That's
what's giving them incredible strength.Copy !req
188. - Jonathan, we have to bring in the police.
- Yeah.Copy !req
189. - The police can't do anything.
- Clark.Copy !req
190. Dad, they threw me into a blast furnace.
They overpowered me.Copy !req
191. If there was kryptonite in there,
I wouldn't be here now.Copy !req
192. We can't let our concern
about your secret intimidate us into silence.Copy !req
193. Maybe there is another way.Copy !req
194. Marsh, drop the bat.Copy !req
195. - What is this?
- I don't wanna tell you again. Drop the bat.Copy !req
196. You're under arrest
for assault and armed robbery.Copy !req
197. - What are you talking about?
- We got a tip, looked through your locker.Copy !req
198. You can't without a warrant.Copy !req
199. Guess again. We don't need a warrant
to look through a student's locker.Copy !req
200. The driver, he came to long enough to tell
us about the aliens that trashed his truck.Copy !req
201. Don't worry, now.
You can use your one call to phone home.Copy !req
202. Okay, the only time you're ever this quiet
is when you're sleeping. What's up?Copy !req
203. Clark and I decided to put our friendship
on an indefinite hiatus.Copy !req
204. Over one newspaper story?Copy !req
205. Let's just say that
certain insurmountable forces...Copy !req
206. finally made us raise the white flag.Copy !req
207. I'm sorry. If there's anything
I can do to help...Copy !req
208. Who is that?Copy !req
209. Jennifer Small.Copy !req
210. Thanks.Copy !req
211. - Mrs. Small.
- It's not what you think, Lana.Copy !req
212. I don't know what you mean.Copy !req
213. I am not cheating on my husband.Copy !req
214. I know that's what you thought.Copy !req
215. But the man you saw me with was just...Copy !req
216. an old friend of mine from college.Copy !req
217. Why are you telling me this?Copy !req
218. - I wasn't gonna say anything to Henry.
- He also happens to be my divorce attorney.Copy !req
219. Divorce?Copy !req
220. Henry never mentioned anything.Copy !req
221. That's because he doesn't know.
At least, not yet.Copy !req
222. Why are you divorcing him?Copy !req
223. Lana, I've learned to handle
a lot in this marriage...Copy !req
224. but that's because through it all,
I knew I was Henry's priority.Copy !req
225. Since he met you...Copy !req
226. I am not sure that's true anymore.Copy !req
227. - I never meant to come between you.
- But you did.Copy !req
228. Lana, you are all he talks about.Copy !req
229. You're a window to a happier time.Copy !req
230. I guess I am telling you this
because I'm admitting defeat.Copy !req
231. You win.Copy !req
232. Mrs. Small, I don't want to win.Copy !req
233. Goodbye, Lana.Copy !req
234. - So much for an interview.
- I admire your dedication.Copy !req
235. Though I suspect the hospital
might not be quite so understanding.Copy !req
236. Mr. Luthor.Copy !req
237. What are you doing here?Copy !req
238. Paying a bedside visit to a loyal employee.Copy !req
239. It's Miss Sullivan, isn't it?Copy !req
240. You know who I am?Copy !req
241. I've followed your work
at the Torch for some time.Copy !req
242. Given today's front-page scoop,
I assume you came...Copy !req
243. hoping Mr. O'Connor would confirm...Copy !req
244. his connection with LuthorCorp.Copy !req
245. I think you just did that for him.Copy !req
246. It was never a secret.Copy !req
247. Unlike the now-missing
contents of your truck.Copy !req
248. On or off the record?Copy !req
249. The police report says robbery,
but no one's been able to find anything.Copy !req
250. We were moving some industrial material.
It's nothing important.Copy !req
251. Somebody sure went to
a lot of trouble to get to it.Copy !req
252. Oh, it's a competitive world, you know that.Copy !req
253. Corporate sabotage is just
one of the costs of doing business.Copy !req
254. - Mr. Luthor...
- Miss Sullivan, I admire your zeal...Copy !req
255. and your work at the Torch
is exemplary...Copy !req
256. but trust me.Copy !req
257. You're looking for a mystery
where there's none to be found.Copy !req
258. Clark.Copy !req
259. Are you okay?Copy !req
260. I got blind-sided yesterday by a couple
of guys. Guess I'm still a little shaken up.Copy !req
261. What happened, did you get hurt?Copy !req
262. I'll survive. It was more of a wrong place,
wrong time kind of thing.Copy !req
263. I know the feeling,
at least metaphorically speaking.Copy !req
264. I ran into Jennifer Small today.Copy !req
265. Found out that she's filing
for divorce from Henry...Copy !req
266. and I'm the reason.Copy !req
267. That's intense.Copy !req
268. - Have you talked to Henry about it?
- What can I do without making it worse?Copy !req
269. He should know what's going on, there
might be a chance to salvage his marriage.Copy !req
270. Sounds like you should be
taking your own advice.Copy !req
271. I hear you and Chloe are calling it quits.Copy !req
272. That's different.Copy !req
273. - Why?
- I can't just sit here...Copy !req
274. and watch Chloe get hurt over and over
when I can't do anything about it.Copy !req
275. What's so bad that's come
between you two like this?Copy !req
276. Well...Copy !req
277. I wish I could make it go away.Copy !req
278. - You can't.
- You and Chloe have been friends forever.Copy !req
279. You can't just let that go without a fight.Copy !req
280. At least the Clark Kent I know wouldn't.Copy !req
281. If your father sent you,
I had nothing to do with the robbery.Copy !req
282. No, no, my father doesn't know I'm here.Copy !req
283. I'm sure his representatives
will be around, though.Copy !req
284. No, I came to talk about your future.Copy !req
285. - What do you care?
- I checked into your baseball career.Copy !req
286. I understand there's interest
from some big league scouts.Copy !req
287. Yeah, there's more than just interest.Copy !req
288. All right?
There's college reps, there's agents.Copy !req
289. This is just a bump in the road.Copy !req
290. Two felony charges with bail set
at a quarter of a million dollars.Copy !req
291. I'd say more like a brick wall,
wouldn't you?Copy !req
292. - Why, do I look scared?
- You look guilty.Copy !req
293. And if a jury agrees, you can kiss
all that talent and promise goodbye.Copy !req
294. Like I told the cops, I didn't do it.Copy !req
295. Well, I guess you have
nothing to worry about.Copy !req
296. But if the charges stick...Copy !req
297. you might need a friend.Copy !req
298. All right, what is it that you want?Copy !req
299. I want to know what you stole
out of my father's truck.Copy !req
300. Well, assuming that I even have a clue
what you're talking about...Copy !req
301. what's in it for me?Copy !req
302. Chloe, what happened?Copy !req
303. Go away, Clark.Copy !req
304. Are you okay?Copy !req
305. Physically, yeah, I'm fine.Copy !req
306. Emotionally...Copy !req
307. what do you care?Copy !req
308. I want to help.Copy !req
309. We'll get the Torch back on its feet.Copy !req
310. There is no "we" anymore, Clark.
There's only me.Copy !req
311. And this paper was my whole life.Copy !req
312. It was the one place I could come to when
everyone and everything let me down...Copy !req
313. and now I don't even have that anymore.Copy !req
314. - Where are you going?
- To find a friend.Copy !req
315. Chloe.Copy !req
316. Hey, Kent, I heard the paper's
not gonna press.Copy !req
317. Did you do this?Copy !req
318. I don't know how the hell you got out
of that fire, but you'd better back off.Copy !req
319. What are you doing out of jail?Copy !req
320. Seems I've got friends in higher places
that I didn't even know about...Copy !req
321. and suddenly you're not so anonymous.Copy !req
322. I'll testify to put you away.Copy !req
323. Oh, no, I'd think about that, Kent.Copy !req
324. I know you're unbreakable,
but people that you care about...Copy !req
325. aren't. I'd sure hate to think...Copy !req
326. something happened
to those wholesome parents of yours.Copy !req
327. Clark.Copy !req
328. Clark.Copy !req
329. Your mother.Copy !req
330. How's Mom doing?Copy !req
331. She's got some...Copy !req
332. minor cuts and bruises.
I still want to get her checked out.Copy !req
333. This pregnancy doesn't need
any more complications.Copy !req
334. I should've been there, Dad.Copy !req
335. - You couldn't have done anything.
- Still.Copy !req
336. I'm not gonna let you
beat yourself up about this.Copy !req
337. What happens if they come back?Copy !req
338. You and Mom should go away,
until this settles down.Copy !req
339. I have never run away from a single thing
in my life and I'm not about to start now.Copy !req
340. Look around,
look what they did to this place.Copy !req
341. You said I can't protect you.Copy !req
342. You have to think about Mom,
about the baby.Copy !req
343. I am thinking about Mom,
I am thinking about the baby.Copy !req
344. I'm also thinking about you.Copy !req
345. Dad, please.Copy !req
346. Please.Copy !req
347. I'll take your mother to a doctor
in Metropolis...Copy !req
348. and maybe stay with your grandfather
for a couple days.Copy !req
349. Son, I'd feel a whole hell of a lot better
if you'd agree to come with us.Copy !req
350. I can't.Copy !req
351. I'm not gonna stand here
and ask you to do nothing...Copy !req
352. because you and I both know
that I would not do nothing.Copy !req
353. But I want you to
remember something, son.Copy !req
354. They have your strength...Copy !req
355. but they don't have
any of your other abilities.Copy !req
356. You make sure you give yourself
a fighting chance.Copy !req
357. - Lex.
- I gotta let you go.Copy !req
358. I just found out that you visited
Eric Marsh in jail.Copy !req
359. Were you the one to bail him out?Copy !req
360. I wasn't aware my visit
was public knowledge.Copy !req
361. What's Marsh have to do with you?Copy !req
362. I was the one who phoned
in the anonymous tip.Copy !req
363. Him and his buddies nearly
killed my parents yesterday.Copy !req
364. - Are they all right?
- They're in Metropolis, it's not safe at home.Copy !req
365. I heard your father's back.Copy !req
366. - If this is some sick game between you...
- It's no game.Copy !req
367. Clark, that truck was carrying a load
of highly refined meteor rocks.Copy !req
368. If I'm not mistaken, I think my father's
resumed his Level 3 experiments.Copy !req
369. What does that have to do with Marsh?Copy !req
370. Look, I bailed him out,
hoping he'd provide answers.Copy !req
371. Maybe he'd lead me to the meteor rock.Copy !req
372. Where is he?Copy !req
373. I don't know.Copy !req
374. He beat up a security guard I had on him.Copy !req
375. There's gotta be a way to draw him out.Copy !req
376. Clark, I don't have anything Marsh wants.Copy !req
377. Except for the meteor rocks.Copy !req
378. Marsh has a connection inside LuthorCorp
that tells him when the shipments go out.Copy !req
379. If he thinks your father's bringing
another load out...Copy !req
380. I still have contacts at my father's firm.
They could let the word out.Copy !req
381. The truck will be empty when Marsh hits.
My security team will be all over them.Copy !req
382. I've seen what Eric can do.
You have to get the police on this.Copy !req
383. Just go home, Clark.Copy !req
384. I don't want you or your parents involved
any more than they already are.Copy !req
385. Once Marsh and his friends have the truck,
give them a lot of room.Copy !req
386. Nobody does anything
until they lead us to the meteor rock.Copy !req
387. We're set, Mr. Luthor.Copy !req
388. The truck's getting ready to move.Copy !req
389. Wait for my signal
before you start following.Copy !req
390. Nobody moves without my direct order...Copy !req
391. Change of plans.Copy !req
392. Okay, I've got the van.
Get ready to make the switch.Copy !req
393. Anybody follow you?Copy !req
394. I didn't see anyone, but we'd better hurry.
Luthor's bound to have it bugged.Copy !req
395. How's it feel, Clark?Copy !req
396. Eric, don't do this.Copy !req
397. You don't understand, Kent.Copy !req
398. It's done.Copy !req
399. That's all of it.Copy !req
400. At least for now.Copy !req
401. Hey, Lex.Copy !req
402. Clark, how are your parents doing?Copy !req
403. Just fine. They got home
from Metropolis last night.Copy !req
404. - That must be a relief.
- Yeah.Copy !req
405. Eric's arrested, so it looks like
your plan came off without a hitch.Copy !req
406. So it seems.Copy !req
407. The intriguing thing is,
my people had nothing to do with it.Copy !req
408. - Then who did?
- No one knows.Copy !req
409. Marsh and his friends aren't talking...Copy !req
410. but they were found unconscious and
the meteor rocks are still unaccounted for.Copy !req
411. Who do you think has them?Copy !req
412. I have my suspicions.Copy !req
413. Lana.Copy !req
414. - Hey.
- Hey, Henry. Thanks for coming.Copy !req
415. Your message said something
regarding the horse show.Copy !req
416. I hope you're still planning to ride.Copy !req
417. To be honest, I'm not sure.Copy !req
418. I don't understand, I thought you were
really looking forward to this weekend.Copy !req
419. I was. Believe me.Copy !req
420. But I think it's more important
that you spend this time with Jennifer.Copy !req
421. Lana, she told me you two talked.
If this is because of something she said...Copy !req
422. No, I came into your life out of nowhere
and dropped a bomb on your family.Copy !req
423. I didn't know how our relationship was
going to work out, but after a rocky start...Copy !req
424. I finally know that you love me.Copy !req
425. I don't want to lose that.Copy !req
426. I don't know what Jennifer told you,
but things between us aren't that bad.Copy !req
427. Henry, she's hiring an attorney.Copy !req
428. What?Copy !req
429. You need to talk to her,
tell her how you feel.Copy !req
430. Whatever happens after that is up to you.Copy !req
431. You're my daughter,
I just can't walk away from that.Copy !req
432. You're not.
I'll always be here.Copy !req
433. But right now,
I think Jennifer needs you more.Copy !req
434. Hey, Dad, how's Mom?Copy !req
435. You'll be happy to know that both
mother and child got a clean bill of health.Copy !req
436. - Good.
- Look, son, I wanted to tell you...Copy !req
437. Hi, Lana.Copy !req
438. - I'm proud of you.
- Thanks.Copy !req
439. - Miss Lang.
- Mr. Kent.Copy !req
440. You must be here for Donatello.
I'll saddle him up.Copy !req
441. No, I'm not practicing, Clark.Copy !req
442. In fact, I think I might
drop out of the show.Copy !req
443. I take it things with Henry didn't go so well.Copy !req
444. I told him I'd always be his daughter...Copy !req
445. but we should put our relationship on
hold until his marriage gets back on track.Copy !req
446. - Wow.
- Yeah.Copy !req
447. How are things with Chloe?Copy !req
448. I went to go talk to her but this whole
Torch thing put her over the edge.Copy !req
449. She told me to go away.Copy !req
450. You two will work through this, Clark.Copy !req
451. I hope so.Copy !req
452. - I miss her already.
- I know what you mean.Copy !req
453. I think we should remain
cautiously optimistic...Copy !req
454. that each of us will get a second chance.Copy !req
455. You know who's really the loser in all this?Copy !req
456. Donatello.Copy !req
457. Poor horse worked so hard
and now he can't even strut his stuff.Copy !req
458. I guess I can't disappoint him.Copy !req
459. Besides, I wanted to share this
with someone special and I still am.Copy !req
460. You're still going, aren't you, Clark?Copy !req
461. You can count on me.Copy !req
462. Miss Sullivan.Copy !req
463. - Mr. Luthor.
- Your principal told me you might be here.Copy !req
464. I hope I'm not interrupting you.Copy !req
465. No. No, I mean...Copy !req
466. I've never entertained a billionaire before.Copy !req
467. You'll have to excuse the destruction.Copy !req
468. - I was recently vandalized.
- So I heard.Copy !req
469. By the same men
who hijacked my truck, I think.Copy !req
470. Actually there's still a question.Copy !req
471. Eric Marsh owned up to the robbery
of the truck and the assault...Copy !req
472. but he said he didn't have
anything to do with the Torch.Copy !req
473. I mean, why confess
to the heavy crimes and deny that?Copy !req
474. Well, it's not easy
to understand the criminal mind.Copy !req
475. What's this?Copy !req
476. This is an interesting display.Copy !req
477. I call it the Wall of Weird.Copy !req
478. I'll come to the point, Miss Sullivan.
I'd like to help you rebuild.Copy !req
479. I've instructed the LuthorCorp foundation
to make a donation to your school...Copy !req
480. the fund specifically
earmarked toward rebuilding...Copy !req
481. and updating the journalism department.Copy !req
482. Mr. Luthor, I'm confused.Copy !req
483. I mean, the struggling editor in me
wants to just leave it at "thank you"...Copy !req
484. but the journalist in me has to ask, why?Copy !req
485. I'm impressed with your...Copy !req
486. willingness to explore
alternative ideas, options.Copy !req
487. You interned at the Daily Planet
this summer, didn't you?Copy !req
488. Yeah.Copy !req
489. I have a little influence there.Copy !req
490. They certainly could use some new blood.Copy !req
491. Maybe...Copy !req
492. a column...Copy !req
493. to introduce your unique point of view.Copy !req
494. I don't want to look a gift horse
in the mouth...Copy !req
495. but I don't understand why the most
powerful man in this city is helping me.Copy !req
496. We're after the same thing, Miss Sullivan.
The truth.Copy !req
497. You know, journalists are
the midwives of history.Copy !req
498. Perhaps with my help, we could...Copy !req
499. make history together.Copy !req
