1. Hey, Mom, you down here?Copy !req
2. Clark, I thought you went to the
hardware store with your father.Copy !req
3. We were on our way,
then Dad remembered...Copy !req
4. he had the part he needed
in the barn.Copy !req
5. What are you doing down here?Copy !req
6. I came down to get some peaches
for dessert. I'll be right up.Copy !req
7. Okay.Copy !req
8. Well, that ought to do it.Copy !req
9. That was fast.Copy !req
10. I offered Dad a bit of spot welding,
but he said it'd slow him down.Copy !req
11. As hard as it is to believe,
your abilities are no substitute...Copy !req
12. for a 3/4-inch copper washer.Copy !req
13. Well, it sounds like the two of you
deserve a nice, cold glass of lemonade.Copy !req
14. Mom, you all right?Copy !req
15. Martha!Copy !req
16. Dad, she's not breathing. Mom? Mom!Copy !req
17. Martha?Copy !req
18. The good news is we've managed
to stabilize her.Copy !req
19. She's breathing on her own.Copy !req
20. I don't understand.
She worked outside all morning.Copy !req
21. She seemed fine. How could something
come over her so quickly?Copy !req
22. My guess is we're dealing
with some sort of toxin.Copy !req
23. I'll have a better idea after we finish
her blood work.Copy !req
24. All right. I'm gonna stay right here.Copy !req
25. I'll have an orderly
bring you some coffee.Copy !req
26. Thank you.Copy !req
27. She's gonna be okay.Copy !req
28. I know that, son.Copy !req
29. I also know that she wouldn't want
us both out here standing guard.Copy !req
30. I'm not leaving.Copy !req
31. Your mother had a list of things she
needed to get done for the fundraiser.Copy !req
32. You know how important
the food bank is to her.Copy !req
33. All right.Copy !req
34. As soon as I'm finished, I'm coming back
to camp out with you.Copy !req
35. I thought that your mom was bringing
over the prizes for the raffle.Copy !req
36. She was, but she came down
with something this morning.Copy !req
37. - My dad's at the hospital with her.
- Hospital? It sounds serious.Copy !req
38. Any idea what's wrong?Copy !req
39. - They're waiting on some test results.
- They have to know something.Copy !req
40. - What were her symptoms?
- What is this, an interview?Copy !req
41. She stopped breathing, okay?Copy !req
42. This whole event was your mom's idea.Copy !req
43. Maybe we should just postpone
until she's back on her feet.Copy !req
44. No, I appreciate the thought, Lana,
but she's gonna be okay...Copy !req
45. and she'd be really disappointed
if we cancelled.Copy !req
46. - Clark, I didn't mean to just...
- It's okay, Chloe.Copy !req
47. I'm gonna get back to the hospital.Copy !req
48. Mr. Kent?Copy !req
49. I know we've already gone over this,
but I'm gonna ask you one more time.Copy !req
50. Has Martha been exposed to any unusual
substances over the last few days?Copy !req
51. Nothing she hasn't been around before.
What is this about?Copy !req
52. I've been going over Martha's
blood cultures...Copy !req
53. and her symptoms indicate
an acute toxic reaction...Copy !req
54. but I can't identify the source.
- But you can do something for her, right?Copy !req
55. I've sent her blood samples
to Metropolis for further testing.Copy !req
56. But I have to be honest with you,
I'm concerned...Copy !req
57. for both Martha and the health
of her baby.Copy !req
58. Baby?Copy !req
59. You didn't know?Copy !req
60. There must be some kind of mistake.Copy !req
61. The doctors said that she
could never have a baby.Copy !req
62. I asked your G.P. To fax over Martha's
medical records.Copy !req
63. There's no mistake.Copy !req
64. I saw Mr. Kent in the hall.Copy !req
65. He looked worried.
Is everything all right?Copy !req
66. We're doing everything we can.Copy !req
67. Johns Hopkins. Good school.Copy !req
68. Go ahead. Read it.Copy !req
69. They're offering you
a three-year research fellowship.Copy !req
70. I'm impressed.Copy !req
71. It's an opportunity to do pure research at
one of the best hospitals in the country.Copy !req
72. As opposed to the rural pleasures
of Smallville Medical.Copy !req
73. Lex, I like my work here, but research
has always been my first love.Copy !req
74. So...Copy !req
75. what do you think?Copy !req
76. Trust me...Copy !req
77. there's nothing worse
than a missed opportunity.Copy !req
78. Dr. Bryce?Copy !req
79. I'm Dr. Neil Moore.
We're here about Martha Kent.Copy !req
80. I'll let you get back to work.Copy !req
81. A baby?Copy !req
82. She didn't tell me anything about it.Copy !req
83. - Why would she keep it a secret?
- I don't know.Copy !req
84. Mr. Kent.Copy !req
85. This is Dr. Moore
with the Disease Control Agency.Copy !req
86. Mr. Kent.Copy !req
87. Disease? I'm sorry, but what does
that have to do with my wife?Copy !req
88. The Disease Control Agency
gets called in...Copy !req
89. whenever it's a matter
of public safety.Copy !req
90. The Metropolis lab sent them
Martha's blood work.Copy !req
91. I don't mean to alarm you...Copy !req
92. but your wife's condition is caused
by some unknown toxin.Copy !req
93. We're here to find it and identify it.Copy !req
94. Can someone else come down with this?Copy !req
95. Frankly, son, we can't know that
until we find the source.Copy !req
96. We need to backtrack Mrs. Kent's
movements over the last couple of days.Copy !req
97. She hasn't left the farm
since the weekend.Copy !req
98. She's been on the phone
doing fundraising.Copy !req
99. Then that's where we need to start.Copy !req
100. Start what?Copy !req
101. Searching your property
for the source of the poison:Copy !req
102. The house, the out buildings...Copy !req
103. anything Mrs. Kent might have
come in contact with.Copy !req
104. Clark, the ship.Copy !req
105. Pete, you're sure the ship will be safe
in your shed?Copy !req
106. Yeah. I'll put it between the old Betamax
and my dad's Pong game.Copy !req
107. Indiana Jones couldn't find it
down there.Copy !req
108. Clark!Copy !req
109. Clark, what are you...?Copy !req
110. Pete, you okay?Copy !req
111. I'm fine.Copy !req
112. What happened to you?Copy !req
113. I'm not sure.Copy !req
114. Let's get out of here.Copy !req
115. Come on, let's get this thing back
on the road.Copy !req
116. Come on, stop fooling around.
I've seen you bench-press a trailer.Copy !req
117. - Let's go.
- I'm trying.Copy !req
118. I can't do this, Pete.Copy !req
119. Clark, X-Files alert.Copy !req
120. That's the DCA team.Copy !req
121. We've gotta get this thing back
on the road.Copy !req
122. We got it.Copy !req
123. - Find anything yet?
- No, not yet.Copy !req
124. - You got the ship out of there?
- Yeah, it's at Pete's. It's safe.Copy !req
125. Dad, when I was driving...Copy !req
126. my vision suddenly blurred
and I lost control of the truck.Copy !req
127. - You and Pete are all right, aren't you?
- Yeah.Copy !req
128. For a moment, I lost all my strength.Copy !req
129. - Dr. Moore.
- Go ahead.Copy !req
130. I'm getting a hit in the storm cellar.Copy !req
131. I'm registering a positive
for organic particulate matter.Copy !req
132. Looks like someone
was digging around...Copy !req
133. and kicked up some sort
of irradiated spore.Copy !req
134. Get a surface sample.Copy !req
135. Ten centimeters and 50 centimeters.Copy !req
136. Mr. Kent, we found this in a tin
buried inside your storm cellar.Copy !req
137. Have you ever seen it before?Copy !req
138. No.Copy !req
139. Has Mrs. Kent been down
in that cellar recently?Copy !req
140. Not that I know of.
We usually keep it locked.Copy !req
141. Actually, Dad,
she was down there this morning.Copy !req
142. This is Moore.Copy !req
143. I want a cleanup team to sterilize
every inch of that storm cellar.Copy !req
144. I don't get it. We've been searching
for that key for months.Copy !req
145. How did it end up in the storm cellar?Copy !req
146. When I fixed the leak under the sink,
I noticed the flour jar.Copy !req
147. Your mother must have moved it.Copy !req
148. - Why didn't she tell us she had it?
- She must have her reasons, Clark.Copy !req
149. Right now, I'm more concerned
about her health.Copy !req
150. Me too. What do you think
those spores are?Copy !req
151. I don't know, but whatever they are,
you were exposed to them too.Copy !req
152. Maybe that's why you
lost your strength.Copy !req
153. No, Dad, I just had a glitch.
I'm fine.Copy !req
154. You don't have to worry about me.Copy !req
155. We need to think about Mom.Copy !req
156. Sweetheart.Copy !req
157. How you feeling?Copy !req
158. I should have told you about the baby.Copy !req
159. I'm so sorry.Copy !req
160. Why didn't you tell me?Copy !req
161. I was worried if I said it out loud,
it would go away.Copy !req
162. Martha.Copy !req
163. How is it even possible?Copy !req
164. The day of the tornado...Copy !req
165. when Nixon opened Clark's ship...Copy !req
166. something strange happened.Copy !req
167. And there was a blinding light...Copy !req
168. and I felt a surge of energy
go through my body.Copy !req
169. You're saying you think the ship
has the power to heal?Copy !req
170. I think the ship made it possible
for me to get pregnant.Copy !req
171. However it happened, Martha,
it's a miracle.Copy !req
172. They found the key.Copy !req
173. In the storm cellar?Copy !req
174. - Why did you hide it from us?
- I know it was wrong...Copy !req
175. but I was afraid if Clark
opened the ship...Copy !req
176. and found out the truth
about his origins he'd...Copy !req
177. He would want to leave us.Copy !req
178. Martha, that's not going to happen.Copy !req
179. - Clark.
- Hi, Lana.Copy !req
180. I just wanted to make sure
you were okay.Copy !req
181. It's weird how random memories
can just pop into your head, huh?Copy !req
182. When I was in second grade,
I was afraid to go to school...Copy !req
183. because I thought Mom
would disappear while I was gone...Copy !req
184. and never come back.Copy !req
185. I wouldn't even get on the bus...Copy !req
186. until she promised she'd be there
when I got home.Copy !req
187. Sure enough...Copy !req
188. every day, there she was when
I walked through the door.Copy !req
189. Don't worry, Clark.Copy !req
190. In a few days, you'll walk through the
door and your mom will be there again.Copy !req
191. Clark, you okay?Copy !req
192. Clark. Clark!Copy !req
193. Clark.Copy !req
194. What happened?Copy !req
195. Lana, would you excuse us, please?Copy !req
196. Clark was exposed to the same toxin
his mother was.Copy !req
197. You should've called an ambulance.
He needs a hospital.Copy !req
198. We need to inform the DCA.Copy !req
199. - I'm sorry, I can't let you do that.
- Why the hell not?Copy !req
200. I need you to promise me
that you won't tell anybody...Copy !req
201. about this, and I mean anybody.Copy !req
202. Mr. Kent, I take my doctor-patient
confidentiality very seriously...Copy !req
203. but Clark needs proper care.Copy !req
204. Doctor, Clark isn't exactly
what you'd call a normal boy.Copy !req
205. I need to get a blood sample.Copy !req
206. Listen, Dr. Bryce, you can't do that.Copy !req
207. - Is this some sort of religious thing?
- No, I mean literally, you can't do that.Copy !req
208. You can't take that sample to a lab.Copy !req
209. I'm trying to help your son...Copy !req
210. but I can't unless you tell me
what's going on.Copy !req
211. You need to promise me that you will do
the lab work on this blood yourself.Copy !req
212. If you do the blood work yourself,
I think you'll understand...Copy !req
213. why you can't tell anyone about Clark.Copy !req
214. Oh, my God.Copy !req
215. Lex.Copy !req
216. Came by to see
how Mrs. Kent was doing.Copy !req
217. I saw the DCA, must be serious.Copy !req
218. You know I'm not allowed
to discuss my patients.Copy !req
219. The Kents are like family to me,
more than my own.Copy !req
220. I know, and I would tell you everything
if I could.Copy !req
221. I understand. I just wish there
was something I could do to help.Copy !req
222. Unfortunately, modern medicine doesn't
always have the answers.Copy !req
223. I guess that's the attraction
of a research fellowship...Copy !req
224. the chance to help unlock
the mysteries of science.Copy !req
225. I'd better get back to work.Copy !req
226. Helen.Copy !req
227. Johns Hopkins will be lucky to have you.Copy !req
228. Hi, Mr. Kent.
Lana told me what happened.Copy !req
229. - Is Clark okay?
- Yeah, he's just resting on the couch.Copy !req
230. I'll be sure to tell him you stopped by
to say hello.Copy !req
231. I'm sorry, I must be more annoying
than a door-to-door salesman.Copy !req
232. I was wondering if I could just sit
with him for a while?Copy !req
233. Yes.Copy !req
234. Chloe, I'm sorry. Sure, go on in.Copy !req
235. - I'll wait upstairs.
- Okay, thanks.Copy !req
236. Hi, Clark.Copy !req
237. Well, this is gonna make quite a story.Copy !req
238. "Clark Kent Ends Record-Breaking
Perfect Attendance Streak."Copy !req
239. Sorry.Copy !req
240. I'm doing it again.Copy !req
241. I just...Copy !req
242. I've never seen you sick before,
and it just got me thinking.Copy !req
243. What if something did happen to you...Copy !req
244. and I never got to...?Copy !req
245. So in yet another classic maneuver
to avoid emotional intimacy...Copy !req
246. I wrote my feelings down
so that I could read them to you...Copy !req
247. thereby avoiding embarrassing
eye contact.Copy !req
248. I want to let you in on a secret.Copy !req
249. I'm not who you think I am.Copy !req
250. In fact, my disguise is so thin...Copy !req
251. I'm surprised you haven't seen
right through me.Copy !req
252. I'm the girl of your dreams
masquerading as your best friend.Copy !req
253. Sometimes I wanna rip off this façade
like I did at the Spring Formal...Copy !req
254. but I can't, because you'll get scared
and you'll run away again.Copy !req
255. So I decided that it's better to live with
the lie than expose my true feelings.Copy !req
256. This is so much easier
when you're unconscious.Copy !req
257. My dad told me
there are two types of girls...Copy !req
258. the ones you grow out of
and the ones you grow into.Copy !req
259. I really hope I'm the latter.Copy !req
260. I may not be the one you love today...Copy !req
261. but I'll let you go for now,
hoping one day you'll fly back to me.Copy !req
262. Because I think you're worth the wait.Copy !req
263. Clark?Copy !req
264. Lana?Copy !req
265. Dad.Copy !req
266. Clark, you shouldn't be up.Copy !req
267. Where are you going?Copy !req
268. - I'm going to Pete's to get the ship.
- Now?Copy !req
269. How is Mom?Copy !req
270. Dad?Copy !req
271. Clark, Helen says that your mother...Copy !req
272. probably won't make it
through the night.Copy !req
273. And now you too.Copy !req
274. You can't think about me.
We gotta help Mom.Copy !req
275. I'm not gonna lose my family,
not without a fight.Copy !req
276. Now, if it takes a miracle,
I'll have to go out and find one.Copy !req
277. The ship.
You think it can cure me and Mom?Copy !req
278. I don't know, Clark.Copy !req
279. I'm grasping at straws.
The doctors can't help you...Copy !req
280. and your mother thinks the ship
helped her get pregnant.Copy !req
281. I don't know, maybe it's crazy.Copy !req
282. The only way to get it to work
is with that key.Copy !req
283. I know that, son.Copy !req
284. I also know where the DCA
took everything.Copy !req
285. - I'm going there now.
- I'll go with you.Copy !req
286. No. I want you to stay right here,
you're too sick.Copy !req
287. Go to bed, son.Copy !req
288. Hold it right there. On the ground, now!Copy !req
289. Hands at your sides!Copy !req
290. Clark!Copy !req
291. I thought you could use a hand.Copy !req
292. We gotta run, son. Come on!Copy !req
293. He's moving down to the gate!Copy !req
294. Unlock the gates! Let's go!Copy !req
295. Code blue, room 117. Code blue.Copy !req
296. This is the DCA.
Stop your vehicle immediately.Copy !req
297. Get out of the truck
and put your hands up!Copy !req
298. Something wrong, officer?Copy !req
299. This guy doesn't fit the description.Copy !req
300. Clear.Copy !req
301. Come on.Copy !req
302. Time of death, 2:17 a.m.Copy !req
303. - So is it a boy or a girl?
- Clark...Copy !req
304. Doctor, please, don't answer that.Copy !req
305. We wanna find out
the old-fashioned way.Copy !req
306. The important thing is that
the baby's healthy and so are you.Copy !req
307. In medical terms,
it's nothing short of a miracle.Copy !req
308. Your family seems to have
a stockpile of them.Copy !req
309. I saw Clark's blood test...Copy !req
310. and I saw Mrs. Kent
make an impossible recovery.Copy !req
311. If you know how that happened,
you should tell me.Copy !req
312. Just like you said, doc...Copy !req
313. it's a miracle.Copy !req
314. Dr. Trenton, I appreciate you keeping me
apprised of the situation.Copy !req
315. I shouldn't be doing this.Copy !req
316. If anyone finds out I'm giving you a file
on a patient, I could lose my job.Copy !req
317. Mrs. Kent was a very sick woman.
What's your interest in her?Copy !req
318. She's a good friend of mine.
That's all you need to know.Copy !req
319. - Hey.
- Hi.Copy !req
320. I ran into Clark in the hall.
He said Martha's gonna be fine.Copy !req
321. Congratulations, doc.Copy !req
322. Don't know how much
I had to do with it.Copy !req
323. Then how do you explain it?Copy !req
324. Right, I almost forgot,
you can't discuss your patients.Copy !req
325. I got you something.Copy !req
326. A going-away present?Copy !req
327. On the contrary.Copy !req
328. Open it.Copy !req
329. It's a key to the mansion.
I want you to move in.Copy !req
330. Lex.Copy !req
331. I'd never want to stand in the way
of your ambitions...Copy !req
332. but I'd be the one
missing an opportunity...Copy !req
333. if I didn't tell you
I want you to stay.Copy !req
334. - "Attack of the killer mold spores"?
- Yeah.Copy !req
335. I'll never look at blue cheese
the same way again.Copy !req
336. I couldn't bring myself to go back
and visit Clark when he was sick.Copy !req
337. Does that make me a horrible person?Copy !req
338. No.Copy !req
339. I guess it just really scared me
to see him like that.Copy !req
340. Me too.Copy !req
341. Kind of makes you realize
who's important in your life.Copy !req
342. Yeah. And who's important to Clark.Copy !req
343. - What do you mean?
- Nothing.Copy !req
344. I'm gonna head home
and finish changing for the benefit.Copy !req
345. Are the programs ready?Copy !req
346. They are, right behind the desk.
I'll see you there.Copy !req
347. Thanks.Copy !req
348. I want to let you in on a secret, Clark.Copy !req
349. I'm not who you think I am.Copy !req
350. In fact, my disguise is so thin...Copy !req
351. I'm surprised you haven 't seen
right through me.Copy !req
352. I'm the girl of your dreams
masquerading as your best friend.Copy !req
353. Pete, this is awesome.Copy !req
354. Clark. It's good to see you
among the living, man.Copy !req
355. Check it out.Copy !req
356. It's the latest Talon mix.Copy !req
357. Thanks, Pete.Copy !req
358. - And thanks for helping with the police.
- No problem.Copy !req
359. Although, if I had a choice,
I'd rather play DJ than decoy any day.Copy !req
360. So...Copy !req
361. is the investigation over?
- Yeah. I hope so.Copy !req
362. - I'll catch up with you later.
- Good seeing you, man.Copy !req
363. Hey, Chloe.Copy !req
364. My dad said you came to visit
when I was sick.Copy !req
365. It was really sweet of you. Thanks.Copy !req
366. Sure. What are friends for?Copy !req
367. I'm just gonna go buy a raffle ticket
before the drawing.Copy !req
368. I mean, what could be more poetically
just, me winning a computer?Copy !req
369. Clark.Copy !req
370. Hey, Lana. This is a great party.Copy !req
371. Your mom deserves a lot of the credit.Copy !req
372. Is Chloe okay?Copy !req
373. What happened to you
really affected her.Copy !req
374. Me too.Copy !req
375. It was really hard seeing you sick.Copy !req
376. Guess I somehow always thought of you
as invincible.Copy !req
377. Now you think I'm just human.Copy !req
378. I guess that's my way of saying
that you mean a lot to me, Clark.Copy !req
379. And I know it's not that eloquent...Copy !req
380. but I guess some people are just better
with words than others.Copy !req
