475. It is a rather large and unwieldy lump of clay.

477. My Mexican friend Saul gave it to me

478. so I could make artistic clay figures.

479. Pottery.

480. He taught me how and the first thing one must do

481. is get the clay ready by pounding on it until it is flat.

482. So here I go, pounding away.

483. Pound, pound, pound.

484. While I pound, perhaps we can watch

485. how Saul makes his pottery.

488. - That is Saul.

489. He learned how to make clay pottery

490. from his grandfather and uncle,

491. and that is the stone Saul uses to pound his clay.

493. Wish I had brought back one of those.

494. Those are Saul's cousins, Angel and Daniella.

495. Both of them help to make a piggy bank.

496. Though Daniella got more clay on her nose

497. than she did on the piggy.

498. Saul can make the best clay ears,

499. and clay legs too.

500. Is that piggy not adorable?

501. When the clay figures were ready,

502. Saul and his grandfather put them out in the sun

503. so they could dry.

504. Then they were ready to be painted.

505. Saul painted the piggy in white,

506. and his grandfather used purple for the collar.

507. I am rather partial to purple myself.

508. His uncle helped Saul paint some flowers on him,

509. and believe me, painting flowers on clay figures

510. takes a lot of patience.

511. Everyone agreed that Saul's piggy bank was beautiful.

512. And then as a present, his grandfather took a coin

513. and dropped it inside.

515. I think even the piggy was pleased.
