568. This is a story about how drag got me catfished.

569. Picture it. I'm sitting at home,

570. minding my grown-ass business on Instagram,

571. and I get this mysterious message.

572. "I need to meet you ASAP."

573. And, damn, he was fine.

574. So I said you know what?

575. Send me a video so I know you're real.

576. He sent the video, he was real, he had my attention.

577. He said, "Well, I wanna take you out to dinner."

578. Bitch, I was excited.

579. I got up, I jumped in the shower, I got to washing.

580. I put on my soaps, powders, perfumes, all type of shit.

581. I wanted to smell good

582. because I finally had a man at me.

583. I went in, I ordered the wonton soup and some sake.

584. 30 minutes went by, no show, so I gave him a call.

585. Ring, ring.

586. Now, the person behind me's phone is ringing,

587. but I don't think nothin' of it.

588. Ring, ring. Before I could say a goddamn thing,

589. the dude from behind me jumps up

590. and says, "Trinity, please just let me explain."

591. Uh, sir, you are not the person in the video.

592. He said, "Well, the person in the video was my roommate."

594. I'm thinking to myself,

600. He says, "I want you to know you saved my life."

601. So this young man found out that he was HIV positive, too.

602. He wanted to take his own life.

603. Ironically, RuPaul's Drag Race was on his television.

604. He had never watched it before—the nerve of him—

605. And the episode happened to be the episode

606. that I came out about my own status.

607. For him to see that on television

608. gave him the courage

609. to put the safety back on this gun,

610. because he had somebody right in front of him at that moment

611. to give him strength.

612. And he went on to tell me that I was his guardian angel

613. and I saved his life,

614. and in that moment I was so proud,

615. but I had to correct him.

648. So she sat me down and she started painting my mug,

649. and about 45 minute later I went to open my eyes

650. and this bitch had glued my eyes together.

651. So after pulling my eyeballs apart,

652. I hear them saying my name.

653. Getting ready to go onstage,

654. there is a blonde wig sitting on the mirror.

655. So I put on this blonde wig,

656. and all of a sudden

657. I get this crazy feeling in my stomach,

658. bubbly, like champagne on New Year's Eve.

659. I open up that curtain,

660. the spotlight hits me, and the crowd goes crazy.

661. "Okay, white girl."

662. - Money everywhere.

663. My friend runs up after the number,

664. picks all my money up.

665. We run backstage.

666. He said, "Bitch...

667. you're paying for my gas tonight."

668. And I started thinking, this is the first time in my life

669. I had ever been celebrated for my femininity,

670. and I loved it so much

695. Every time my mama would go to work,

696. I would sneak into her closet,

697. slip on her little bright red pumps,

698. and I would pay tribute to my fallen diva.

699. Well, one day I guess I got a little caught up in the moment

701. and while I was playing I turned around,

702. and I saw my daddy standing there in the door to the closet

720. So I ripped open the box, I threw the paper everywhere,

721. and there they were, my ruby slippers.

722. They looked nothing like the ones from the movie.

723. They were more of an orangey hard plastic slingback

724. with little specks of silver glitter

725. and a nice little plastic bow hot-glued to the peep toe,

726. ooh, and a chunky half-inch heel.
