78. I'm paying tribute to Madonna.Copy !req
79. The woman that put Vogue
on the map.Copy !req
80. Now put that music
back on, bitch.Copy !req
81. The category is called Lofting.Copy !req
82. It is a dance category
for actual dancers.Copy !req
83. We've been down
this road before.Copy !req
84. You are not a dancer,Copy !req
85. you are not a Voguer,
and quite frankly,Copy !req
86. I'm concerned about your health.Copy !req
87. Break dancing might burst
that silicone.Copy !req
88. And you don't want to go back
to that flat assCopy !req
89. you used to have, now, do you?Copy !req
90. Pray, that's fucked up.Copy !req
91. Why you always reading me
the riot act, Pray Tell?Copy !req
92. You go out of your way
to put me down.Copy !req
93. I don't have to put you downCopy !req
94. when you're always
in the bottom.Copy !req
95. You stood up there on your perch
talking about "It's our time.Copy !req
96. "Our time to be seen.Copy !req
97. To show the world what we got."Copy !req
98. - That's right.
- Yes.Copy !req
99. That's right.Copy !req
100. But in this room,
you the only oneCopy !req
101. that refuse to see that
I got something to contribute.Copy !req
102. I got heart.
I got talent.Copy !req
103. I'm a star, just like Madonna.Copy !req
104. Okay.Copy !req
105. Judges, your scores.Copy !req
106. Five. Five.Copy !req
107. Zero.Copy !req
108. Nobody gets a zero.

112. I'm a star.
I know who I am.Copy !req
113. Yes, you are.Copy !req
114. I am somebody.Copy !req
115. - Yes, you are.
- (cheers and applause)Copy !req
116. Okay, you go on ahead and be
somebody, Miss Jesse Jackson.Copy !req
117. Just not on my floor.Copy !req
118. Music, please.Copy !req
119. Take a hike and don't
ever come back.Copy !req
120. The category is...Copy !req
121. Live...Copy !req
122. Work...Copy !req
123. Pose!Copy !req
124. - You two are looking fierce.
- All right, Nurse Debbie,Copy !req
125. work it out.Copy !req
126. Now, you may want
to visit a mirror,Copy !req
127. perfect some
of them moves, girl.Copy !req
128. Sometimes I feel like God
is playing a joke on us.Copy !req
129. We've been trying to break out
into the mainstream for years,Copy !req
130. and now she lets it happen
in the middle of a plague.Copy !req
131. Yeah, and white folks just want
a smile and a show.Copy !req
132. Not all but most.Copy !req
133. Well, that's why we got to do
this AIDS Cabaret again.Copy !req
134. Give 'em a show
but also spread awareness.Copy !req
135. Girl, that bitch was
Voguing at us.Copy !req
136. - Been watching too much MTV.
- (laughing)Copy !req
137. I can't blame her, though.Copy !req
138. - I love that damn song.
- Yes.Copy !req
139. Which is why you have to come up
and see what we're doingCopy !req
140. at the balls.Copy !req
141. The crowds have been
crazy, crazy packed.Copy !req
142. Which means everybody is
on their "A" game.Copy !req
143. You and Wanda would love it.Copy !req
144. I want to,
but, you know, we're asleepCopy !req
145. before you kids start putting
on your makeup.Copy !req
146. Listen, I only have
a 20-minute lunch break.Copy !req
147. - We got to get down to business.
- Oh.Copy !req
148. So we're meeting
in this hellholeCopy !req
149. because of your schedule, huh?Copy !req
150. That's right, honey.Copy !req
151. (laughs)
All right.Copy !req
152. Well, I've been putting
a lot of thought into it,Copy !req
153. and, after Lorna Luft's
surprise appearanceCopy !req
154. at last year's cabaret,Copy !req
155. we can expect
much larger crowds, right?Copy !req
156. So I'm thinking maybe we start
with a big group number.Copy !req
157. Get the energy going,
and the crowd...Copy !req
158. Pray, we're not here to talk
about the AIDS Cabaret.Copy !req
159. What?Copy !req
160. This isn't another
intervention, is it?Copy !req
161. I've been doing real good
with my drinking.Copy !req
162. Blanca, may I?Copy !req
163. Yeah.Copy !req
164. This is Blanca's blood work.Copy !req
165. She's been on AZT, as you know,
for a few weeks now,Copy !req
166. and already we're starting
to see her T cells climb.Copy !req
167. I told you a million times
I'm not taking that toxic shit.Copy !req
168. I don't trust it,
I don't like it.Copy !req
169. I ain't doing it.Copy !req
170. Well, that was then,
this is now.Copy !req
171. Blanca told me
about that voodoo shitCopy !req
172. you were doing over the weekend.Copy !req
173. Oh, did she, now?Copy !req
174. You skinny queens
are gonna experienceCopy !req
175. some fat bitch food tonight.Copy !req
176. This is disgusting.Copy !req
177. The guy at the yoga center said
eating a pound of butterCopy !req
178. every day with some mineral oilCopy !req
179. can help lower an HIV viral loadCopy !req
180. by flushing the virus
from the gut.Copy !req
181. This guy said a pound.Copy !req
182. Bitch, don't act like you didn't
use a pound last night.Copy !req
183. Don't act new.Copy !req
184. All right.Copy !req
185. Bon... apé... tit.Copy !req
186. My pilot light was broken,Copy !req
187. I needed Blanca's stove,Copy !req
188. and it wasn't
none of her businessCopy !req
189. to be telling you nothing.Copy !req
190. If you're willing to eat
a pound of butter a day,Copy !req
191. it's obvious
that you're investingCopy !req
192. in improving your numbers.Copy !req
193. Why won't you go on AZT?Copy !req
194. Because I prefer
a more holistic approach.Copy !req
195. That shit ain't gonna work.
Your numbers are dropping.Copy !req
196. Mine ain't that low.Copy !req
197. I really, really don't
appreciate y'allCopy !req
198. talking down to me like this.Copy !req
199. Can I not just enjoy my life
for one minute?Copy !req
200. Just one!Copy !req
201. Pray, we want more moments
with you, that's all.Copy !req
202. We're doing it
because we love you.Copy !req
203. Find another way to love me!Copy !req
204. Please find another way.Copy !req
205. Now, if you'll excuse me...
I need to goCopy !req
206. and resuscitate what's left
of my good moodCopy !req
207. that y'all just killed.Copy !req
208. I have a life to live.Copy !req
209. Hear ye, hear ye.Copy !req
210. Now that we have all ordered
our grand slam breakfasts,Copy !req
211. it's time for the first
bi-monthlyCopy !req
212. Masters of Ceremony Council
to officially begin.Copy !req
213. Manhattan, as our secretary,
you will read us the agenda.Copy !req
214. So please tell us what we all
dragged ourselves out of bedCopy !req
215. to talk about this morning.Copy !req
216. We need to find a way
to get these bitchesCopy !req
217. to pay up their dues
and donations.Copy !req
218. Those trophies
don't buy themselves.Copy !req
219. I know that's right.Copy !req
220. And the moments of silence for
individual brothers and sistersCopy !req
221. is getting out of hand.Copy !req
222. We need to vote
on just one momentCopy !req
223. for the ones we've lost
at the beginning of each ballCopy !req
224. to save time.Copy !req
225. It's come to that?
Jesus.Copy !req
226. And on a lighter note,
we need to discuss Madonna.Copy !req
227. - Ah...
- The queen.Copy !req
228. She's putting so many new eyes
on our scene.Copy !req
229. We need to be prepared.Copy !req
230. Which is why I've been sayingCopy !req
231. we need to vote
on a new modern category.Copy !req
232. Agreed.Copy !req
233. Some of these categories
are from 1973.Copy !req
234. Yeah, but we got
to be careful, protective.Copy !req
235. Remember who this is for.Copy !req
236. - Yeah.
- Us.Copy !req
237. Our community.Copy !req
238. We are not a tourist attraction.Copy !req
239. No, we're not.Copy !req
240. Our greatest asset is
our authenticity.Copy !req
241. One of the children suggested
we add a lip-synch category.Copy !req
242. Ah, ah, ah. I'm shutting
that shit down right now.Copy !req
243. If they want to go do that, they
can go on down to the VillageCopy !req
244. to one of them gay bars
and pretend to be Patti LaBelleCopy !req
245. for all them white boys
in their blue jeans.Copy !req
246. Yes. Okay, downtown.Copy !req
247. - All the way downtown.
- What is realCopy !req
248. about flapping your jaw
to a cassette tape?Copy !req
249. - Okay?
- That is not how you do a ball.Copy !req
250. - Mm-hmm.
- It's how you do ventriloquism.Copy !req
251. Bullshit.Copy !req
252. Well, well, well, if it ain't
the dummy herself.Copy !req
253. Did you follow me here,
Carmen Sandiego?Copy !req
254. No. A little birdie told meCopy !req
255. that the council
was meeting this morning.Copy !req
256. And everybody knows that this is
where you bottoms brunch.Copy !req
257. Listen. I heard y'all was gonna
be talking about new categories,Copy !req
258. and I just wanted to be here
in the flesh to state my caseCopy !req
259. before you girls end my dreams.Copy !req
260. Candy, please don't
do this to me today.Copy !req
261. My patience is as thin
as your wallet.Copy !req
262. Candy, what is your problem,
girl?Copy !req
263. You snag trophies every timeCopy !req
264. you walk the face category.Copy !req
265. It's not just about winning.Copy !req
266. It's about getting seen.Copy !req
267. And I clocked Junior Vasquez
at the ball the other night.Copy !req
268. Who that?Copy !req
269. Girl, is you asleep
at the wheel?Copy !req
270. It's only the biggest DJ
in New York.Copy !req
271. And you said it yourself,
Pray Tell.Copy !req
272. The eyes of the world are on us.Copy !req
273. And I need to catch that gaze.
You hear me?Copy !req
274. I'm a performer.Copy !req
275. A star.
So why don't we just come upCopy !req
276. with some categories
so we can show that off?Copy !req
277. So, would you like us to put
a pole in the middle of the roomCopy !req
278. - so you can show us all
your hidden talents?
- Ooh!Copy !req
279. Lip-synching is the future.Copy !req
280. Girls are making serious coin
in those downtown bars.Copy !req
281. Okay, this is not The Gong Show.Copy !req
282. This is not Puttin' on the Hits.Copy !req
283. You are relentless, Candy,
I'll give you that.Copy !req
284. And I admire it, but I suggestCopy !req
285. that you take this energy
somewhere else,Copy !req
286. because I will never bring
this category up for a vote.Copy !req
287. Motion denied.Copy !req
288. - Oh...
- Done.
- Yeah.Copy !req
289. - (laughter)
- How about that?Copy !req
290. Oh!Copy !req
291. Why can't you take me seriously,
Pray Tell?Copy !req
292. What are you gonna do?
Stab me in broad daylight?Copy !req
293. Do it, bitch.Copy !req
294. You ain't seen the last of me.Copy !req
295. Enjoy your meeting.Copy !req
296. She's...Copy !req
297. Motherfucker.Copy !req
298. Yeah, I'm done.Copy !req
299. I assume she's a Scorpio.Copy !req
300. Ah, the category
is Higher than Heaven.Copy !req
301. This is an avant-garde
fashion category.Copy !req
302. You bitches best not
waste my time now.Copy !req
303. Because I'm looking
for innovative experimentation.Copy !req
304. Oh, come on, girl.Copy !req
305. Oh, give me that little shimmy.Copy !req
306. Look at you there,
like you just fellCopy !req
307. into a vat of powdered doughnuts
face-first!Copy !req
308. I ain't mad at you, bitch!Copy !req
309. Judges, your score!Copy !req
310. Wow, work it out!Copy !req
311. And what have we here?Copy !req
312. Swirling around in intergalactic
splendor, bitch.Copy !req
313. Like you going to a party
at the Jetsons' house, baby.Copy !req
314. Mm-hmm.Copy !req
315. Yes. Give me the— ooh.
Ba-boo, boo, boo.Copy !req
316. Give me the scores, y'all.Copy !req
317. Uh-huh.Copy !req
318. Oh, shit.Copy !req
319. All right, Kiki, I see you.Copy !req
320. Oh, shit!Copy !req

331. - I want some birds at the house.
- Come with me.Copy !req
332. - What?

at the club.Copy !req
334. And she hasn't come home yet.Copy !req
335. That's not like her,
not to check in with me after.Copy !req
336. After what?Copy !req
337. Being a mother's

what she want to do.Copy !req
344. Well, did you go to the motel
and see if she was there?Copy !req

413. But they are looking.Copy !req
414. The NYPD doesn't care
about a murdered transsexual.Copy !req
415. We've never been treated
with respect or dignity.Copy !req
416. Candy's death
isn't any different.Copy !req
417. Well, it should be.Copy !req
418. Especially to us.Copy !req
419. No matter what,
she was our sister.Copy !req
420. What is it, May?Copy !req
421. And 11 girls have been killed
this year.Copy !req
422. We just keep sitting around
here, looking all sad.Copy !req
423. We're letting it happen.Copy !req
424. Candy would've wanted us
to fight.Copy !req
425. Okay? She would've wanted us
to stand upCopy !req
426. and say this is fucked up.Copy !req
427. She would have wanted us
to honor her memory.Copy !req
428. So, then what do we do, Elektra?Copy !req
429. We plan a celebration
of her life.Copy !req
430. But we got to get her body
from the morgue.Copy !req
431. And I just don't know
how to do that.Copy !req
432. None of us are
her blood relatives.Copy !req
433. You and I will handle that.Copy !req
434. Angel, you get ahold
of Candy's parents.Copy !req
435. Let them know what happened.Copy !req
436. We're going to make it
through this.Copy !req
437. I promise you.Copy !req
438. I work on the eighth floor.Copy !req
439. You used to date
my coworker Jeff.Copy !req
440. You broke his heart, actually.Copy !req
441. He wouldn't stop
talking about you.Copy !req
442. Is that what he said?Copy !req
443. Yes, but that's really not
what this is about.Copy !req
444. Listen, I'm gay, you're gay.Copy !req
445. We're all dancing
under the same fucking rainbow.Copy !req
446. - We need your help.
- I'm sorry for your loss,Copy !req
447. but you're asking me
to break the law.Copy !req
448. (sighs) Okay, l-let me put it
to you in a different way.Copy !req
449. Let's say things had worked out
between you and Jeff,Copy !req
450. and you'd gotten married.Copy !req
451. And after 30 years of bliss,
he dies on you.Copy !req
452. According to the law, you'd have
no right to claim his body.Copy !req
453. Or his crazy family
could have blocked youCopy !req
454. from entering his hospital room
in his final days.Copy !req
455. That would be fucked up,
wouldn't it?Copy !req
456. Yes, it would.Copy !req
457. Well, we have
the same situation here.Copy !req
458. Blanca and Elektra
are Candy's family,Copy !req
459. and I need you
to release her body to themCopy !req
460. so we can give this girl
a proper funeral.Copy !req
461. I'll take the fall
for whatever happens.Copy !req
462. Just, please give us a break.Copy !req
463. Write down the addressCopy !req
464. of the funeral parlor
you'd like to use.Copy !req
465. I'll send her there.Copy !req
466. Where's Lulu?Copy !req
467. She can't take it.
She can't see her this way.Copy !req
468. You think she blames herself
for getting Candy that job?Copy !req
469. I don't know.Copy !req
470. I never understood that one.Copy !req
471. She always walked
in Candy's shadow.Copy !req
472. I embalmed her myself.
No charge. She had been hereCopy !req
473. almost every week
these past few monthsCopy !req
474. paying respects
to so many friends.Copy !req
475. She would always take the time
to greet me by my name.Copy !req
476. I appreciated that.Copy !req
477. I'll give you some time.Copy !req
478. Oh, no, no, no, no, no.Copy !req
479. That makeup is tore up
from the floor up.Copy !req
480. What the hell
is with that church lady wig?Copy !req
481. Even I wouldn't wear that.Copy !req
482. We can't let her go
in the groundCopy !req
483. looking like my Aunt Carol.Copy !req
484. She will come back and haunt us
to the end of our days.Copy !req
485. We have to do something
about this.Copy !req
486. Ladies, empty your purses.Copy !req
487. We have two hours.Copy !req
488. They couldn't even
acknowledge herCopy !req
489. as their daughter.Copy !req
490. - I feel like I failed her.
- No.Copy !req
491. Don't you go blaming yourself
for their faults.Copy !req
492. I had one final obligation
for Candy,Copy !req
493. and I couldn't even do that.Copy !req
494. Shit.Copy !req
495. Lulu ain't even show up.Copy !req
496. Grieving is tricky, baby.Copy !req
497. We all deal
with loss differently.Copy !req
498. She'll find her way.Copy !req
499. You must be kind
to yourself today.Copy !req
500. Besides, look how many peopleCopy !req
501. - showed up for Candy.
- Right.Copy !req
502. This is her family.
We were real to her.Copy !req
503. Trust.Copy !req
504. Now I'm-a go get
this thing started.Copy !req
505. Hey, y'all.Copy !req
506. Hey.Copy !req
507. How's she doing?Copy !req
508. As best she can.Copy !req
509. How you holding up, hon?Copy !req
510. I'm all right.Copy !req
511. Okay.Copy !req
512. I think it's time.Copy !req
513. So, I'm not gonna stand up here
and lie to y'all today.Copy !req
514. Miss Candy...Copy !req
515. She was a pain
in my goddamn black ass.Copy !req
516. Y'all know
what I'm talking about.Copy !req
517. We didn't always see eye to eye,Copy !req
518. but she was still my sister.Copy !req
519. Like you all are my sistersCopy !req
520. and my siblings and my children.Copy !req
521. My cousins.Copy !req
522. Y'all know family
don't always get along.Copy !req
523. It's all right.Copy !req
524. You know, I was...Copy !req
525. I was sitting
in this very room, what?Copy !req
526. Maybe a couple months ago...Copy !req
527. at another memorialCopy !req
528. saying farewell
to yet another friend.Copy !req
529. And I overheard Miss Candy sayCopy !req
530. that funerals were a waste.Copy !req
531. She said they were a waste
because...Copy !req
532. "only the living get
to partake."Copy !req
533. The departed are just
propped up for viewing.Copy !req
534. - Mm-hmm.
- You know that's right.Copy !req
535. Unable to see who showed up.Copy !req
536. Unable to hear who cried out.Copy !req
537. Unable to respond,Copy !req
538. to speak their final truths.Copy !req
539. We all have so much...Copy !req
540. that we want to say to herCopy !req
541. that will have
to remain unspoken.Copy !req
542. We will never again get
the opportunity to...Copy !req
543. tell her what she meant to us,Copy !req
544. to thank her
for what she gave us,Copy !req
545. and to give her the grandest,Copy !req
546. shiniest motherfucking trophyCopy !req
547. for her contribution
to our community!Copy !req
548. - (overlapping chatter)
- Yes, sir.Copy !req
549. But unfinished business is
the burden of the living.Copy !req
550. We are chargedCopy !req
551. to continue on,Copy !req
552. living through this tragedyCopy !req
553. so that we can fight our hardestCopy !req
554. to protect our sisters
from the handsCopy !req
555. of men who are weak!Copy !req
556. Who are afraidCopy !req
557. to deal with their desires.Copy !req
558. Today we mourn.Copy !req
559. But tomorrow
we stand firmly together,Copy !req
560. never losing sightCopy !req
561. of who we truly are.Copy !req
562. - (overlapping chatter)
- Yes, sir.Copy !req
563. Goddamn right.Copy !req
564. Now...Copy !req
565. let us take a moment of silenceCopy !req
566. for our dearly departed,Copy !req
567. taken too soon sister...Copy !req
568. Miss Candy Ferocity.Copy !req
569. I forgive you.Copy !req
570. That's right, bitch.Copy !req
571. I said I forgive you.Copy !req
572. You need to knowCopy !req
573. I was a forgiving woman.Copy !req
574. How the fuck else
you think I dealtCopy !req
575. with all the backstabbers
in this world?Copy !req
576. A woman's got to forgive.Copy !req
577. Otherwise,
her complexion gets all hazy.Copy !req
578. Least I died beautiful.Copy !req
579. Not that you ever noticed.Copy !req
580. I collected the finest tradeCopy !req
581. that Manhattan, Brooklyn,
and the Bronx had to offer.Copy !req
582. But you?Copy !req
583. I never once impressed you.Copy !req
584. Why?Copy !req
585. Why were you such an asshole
to me?Copy !req
586. You gave plenty
of other people breaksCopy !req
587. when they didn't deserve it.Copy !req
588. Maybe...Copy !req
589. Maybe I didn't want
to look at you.Copy !req
590. You are unapologetic,Copy !req
591. loud, black, femme.Copy !req
592. (voice breaking): All the things
I try to hide about myselfCopy !req
593. when I go out
into the real world.Copy !req
594. You are all of them.Copy !req
595. I guess...Copy !req
596. in a way, I was just trying
to protect you.Copy !req
597. What good is everyone's opinions
when you're gone?Copy !req
598. I'm a free bird now.Copy !req
599. No regrets.Copy !req
600. That.Copy !req
601. I was jealous of that bravery.Copy !req
602. I never had a choice
to hide who I was.Copy !req
603. My loudness walked into the room
before I did.Copy !req
604. - (chuckles)
- Not a damn thing I could do
about that.Copy !req
605. Maybe you're just doing what
you got to do to stay alive.Copy !req
606. Maybe.Copy !req
607. I'll tell you what.Copy !req
608. It's gonna be a sad, lonely lifeCopy !req
609. at those balls without me.Copy !req
610. You know I would have killed
that lip-synch category,Copy !req
611. - you bitch.
- (laughs) Yeah.Copy !req
612. Yes, you would, girl.Copy !req
613. Pray.Copy !req
614. Pray.Copy !req
615. Get on with it.Copy !req
616. (exhales) Okay.Copy !req
617. Thank you.Copy !req
618. Thank you. So, y'all knowCopy !req
619. that Candy wouldn't want us
to drag this shit out,Copy !req
620. so let's keep it moving.Copy !req
621. I understandCopy !req
622. that people have different ways
of mourning and grieving,Copy !req
623. so if you have somethingCopy !req
624. that you want to share or say,Copy !req
625. please come up here
and express yourselves.Copy !req
626. We are all here
to love and support each other.Copy !req
627. I don't even know what to say.Copy !req
628. This could've been me in there.Copy !req
629. Why you?Copy !req
630. Wh-Why not me?Copy !req
631. This needs to be
a reminder to youCopy !req
632. to reach for something more
than a quick coin.Copy !req
633. But I'm not doing that no more.Copy !req
634. But I can see you holding
those piers in your back pocketCopy !req
635. in case this modeling thing
falls through.Copy !req
636. - But we not allowed
in that world.
- Stop doubting yourself.Copy !req
637. You right. You the first,Copy !req
638. the best of us.Copy !req
639. Who better than you, bitch?Copy !req
640. You gon' crack that door
wide open for girls like us.Copy !req
641. That is your duty.Copy !req
642. I better not see you back
at those tollbooths, neither.Copy !req
643. - No.
- Unless you want meCopy !req
644. - haunting you
from the depths of hell.
- No.Copy !req
645. - I'm gonna miss you, Candy.
- (clicks tongue)Copy !req
646. Don't waste your time
missing me.Copy !req
647. Spend that energy
on a Candy girl out there.Copy !req
648. Beautify her
in my stunning image.Copy !req
649. Oh, and thanks
for trying with my parents.Copy !req
650. You did right by me, sis.Copy !req
651. Angel?Copy !req
652. Lulu?Copy !req
653. I didn't think you were coming.Copy !req
654. (crying):
I'm not staying.Copy !req
655. I can't see her like that.Copy !req
656. Laid in some box
with a bad beat.Copy !req
657. It's not how
I want to remember her.Copy !req
658. Lulu.Copy !req
659. You choose
how you want to remember her.Copy !req
660. This is just the moment.Copy !req
661. Y'all have had thousands
of memories together.Copy !req
662. (crying):
Yeah.Copy !req
663. And it's the bad ones
that always play in my head.Copy !req
664. But... but don't you want
to say goodbye?Copy !req
665. (crying):
I'm so scared.Copy !req
666. Me, too.Copy !req
667. But, Lulu, the regretCopy !req
668. that's gonna come over you
tomorrow is gonna be unbearable.Copy !req
669. Trust me.Copy !req
670. Seat taken?Copy !req
671. Go ahead.Copy !req
672. Any more luck getting through
that thick skull of Pray Tell's?Copy !req
673. He won't budge,
and I'm getting worried.Copy !req
674. He'll never admit to this,Copy !req
675. but I can tell
he's lost a little weight,Copy !req
676. and he's been drinking coffee
day and nightCopy !req
677. just to get his energy up.Copy !req
678. I don't know what to do.Copy !req
679. Well, you can't do anything.Copy !req
680. It's up to him.Copy !req
681. Excuse me. Will you two magpiesCopy !req
682. take your chitchat
somewhere else?Copy !req
683. Some of us are trying
to be respectful.Copy !req
684. Oh. Excuse me.Copy !req
685. (laughs)
Don't even worry about her.Copy !req
686. That's how she is.Copy !req
687. Girl, I can't believe
you're gone.Copy !req
688. Now I have to run this house
by myself.Copy !req
689. You know I can't rely
on these girls for nothing.Copy !req
690. I'm gonna miss your crazy ass.Copy !req
691. You were a...Copy !req
692. You were a thieving bitch!Copy !req
693. That's my brooch!Copy !req
694. You convinced me
Florida probably stole it.Copy !req
695. You stole my style, my ideas,
and my gloves!Copy !req
696. - (crowd gasping)
- Is she taking her gloves?Copy !req
697. That's my motherfucking hat!Copy !req
698. Lulu, stop, stop, stop, stop...Copy !req
699. Get the fuck off of me!Copy !req
700. Get the fuck out of my way.Copy !req
701. - Oh.
- Uh-uh.Copy !req
702. I'm not coming
to no family reunions.Copy !req
703. They gonna be talkingCopy !req
704. about this funeral
for years now.Copy !req
705. You know half the shit you took
off me wasn't even yours.Copy !req
706. It seemed like a waste
to bury it with you.Copy !req
707. True.Copy !req
708. I was dying of boredom from all
those crocodile tears over me.Copy !req
709. None of those people could standCopy !req
710. to give me one kind word
when I was alive.Copy !req
711. At least you was honest.Copy !req
712. I know why
it was hard for you in there.Copy !req
713. You never liked me neither.Copy !req
714. And why should I?Copy !req
715. Yeah, we could do some damageCopy !req
716. when we set our eyes on someone.Copy !req
717. We could talk some shit.Copy !req
718. But you and me—Copy !req
719. we wasn't no Laverne
and motherfucking Shirley.Copy !req
720. When did you ever
show me kindness?Copy !req
721. I was your accessory,
and you resented meCopy !req
722. because I was light-skinned
and thick.Copy !req
723. And I played my strengths
at the balls.Copy !req
724. It wasn't that bad.Copy !req
725. Yes, it was.Copy !req
726. Come on.Copy !req
727. Remember that timeCopy !req
728. we stole that giant down coat
from Bloomingdale's?Copy !req
729. And went to the A&P
and walked outCopy !req
730. with an entire
Thanksgiving dinner underneath?Copy !req
731. Or that time we snagged, like,
six trophies in one night.Copy !req
732. That has got to be a record
or something.Copy !req
733. Yeah.Copy !req
734. Or when it was 20 below,Copy !req
735. and we didn't have no heat,
and we had to snuggle togetherCopy !req
736. under that giant
Bloomingdale's coat all night.Copy !req
737. Okay, fine.
Maybe we had some good times.Copy !req
738. We weren't all bad.Copy !req
739. We weren't all good, either.Copy !req
740. But some years gone,Copy !req
741. something crazy or terribleCopy !req
742. or hilarious is gonna happen,Copy !req
743. and you're gonna look
at that space next to youCopy !req
744. where I should be,Copy !req
745. and I'm not gonna be there
to talk about it.Copy !req
746. And you're gonna miss me, girl.Copy !req
747. Time's gonna heal usCopy !req
748. in a way it never could
if I was still alive.Copy !req
749. You making me cry
and messing my makeup.Copy !req
750. There's an old couple out there
looking like George and Weezy,Copy !req
751. partaking in our refreshments.Copy !req
752. What do you want me
to do about it?Copy !req
753. Get out there
and shoo them away.Copy !req
754. Hello.Copy !req
755. Hello, I'm Blanca.Copy !req
756. I'm Darnell Johnson.Copy !req
757. This is my wife Vivica.Copy !req
758. How did you know Candy?Copy !req
759. Candy?Copy !req
760. What kind of damn name is Candy?Copy !req
761. It's the one she chose.Copy !req
762. Candy was... our child.Copy !req
763. He... was our son.Copy !req
764. I'm so sorry.Copy !req
765. She was a good person.Copy !req
766. And Candy was loved.Copy !req
767. You know, if it's
any consolation,Copy !req
768. everyone showed up for her.Copy !req
769. She was one of a kind.Copy !req
770. Why don't y'all come on in back
and say goodbye.Copy !req
771. I'll be right over there.Copy !req
772. Just let me know
if you need anything.Copy !req
773. Darnell, I don't know
if I can do this.Copy !req
774. It's already okay.Copy !req
775. Oh, my God.Copy !req
776. Candy's parents came.Copy !req
777. I can't believe you showed up.Copy !req
778. Baby.Copy !req
779. Why did it take me so long
to see you?Copy !req
780. You refused to.Copy !req
781. Ma, how many times you catch me
wearing your Revlon Charlie?Copy !req
782. Or trying on your wigs?Copy !req
783. Why didn't you ever scold me,Copy !req
784. smack my behind,
shoo me away, something?Copy !req
785. I thought you welcomed it.Copy !req
786. Like me and you had
some sort of pact.Copy !req
787. (voice cracking): You were
my gateway to the feminine.Copy !req
788. But when you rejected me,
I tried to tell you...Copy !req
789. I didn't know.Copy !req
790. I just thought
maybe you was creative.Copy !req
791. At worst, gay.Copy !req
792. But becoming a woman,Copy !req
793. how was I supposed to respond?Copy !req
794. Wasn't no guidebook
instructing meCopy !req
795. on how to raise a child
like you.Copy !req
796. This is me, Ma.Copy !req
797. This is who I truly am.Copy !req
798. I see that.Copy !req
799. You know...Copy !req
800. the outside is different,Copy !req
801. but beneath it,Copy !req
802. all I see is my baby.Copy !req
803. (crying):
I've missed you.Copy !req
804. I missed you, too, Ma.Copy !req
805. Daddy?Copy !req
806. You always did have
a sweet spot for me,Copy !req
807. in spite of my frilly ways.Copy !req
808. You never knew
how to throw a spiral, but...Copy !req
809. your tough behind
sure could tackle.Copy !req
810. My little fighter.Copy !req
811. All them...Copy !req
812. boy things just wasn't your way.Copy !req
813. But you had guts.Copy !req
814. I got that from you.Copy !req
815. Remember that dollhouse?Copy !req
816. How could anyone ever forget?Copy !req
817. You asked for it
for two birthdays,Copy !req
818. a Christmas, and a Kwanzaa.Copy !req
819. I knew you were the one
who got it for me.Copy !req
820. (chuckles):
I saw you,Copy !req
821. sneaking in at bedtime.Copy !req
822. I pretended to be asleep,
but I watched youCopy !req
823. setting it up.Copy !req
824. It was the best Christmas.Copy !req
825. Ever.Copy !req
826. I wanted my baby
to have what he...Copy !req
827. I guess...Copy !req
828. what she wanted.Copy !req
829. I know you didn't
fully understand who I wasCopy !req
830. or what I went through.Copy !req
831. But, that night,Copy !req
832. I felt seen by you.Copy !req
833. (voice breaking):
And having my daddy...Copy !req
834. see me...Copy !req
835. it gave me all the courage
I needed to become who I am.Copy !req
836. I can't let you go.Copy !req
837. We're just getting started.Copy !req
838. You have to.Copy !req
839. It's okay.Copy !req
840. I love you, Daddy.Copy !req
841. We want to thank Mr. and Mrs.
Johnson for coming out today.Copy !req
842. Thank you so much.Copy !req
843. So, if the MCs could come
and join me for a minute.Copy !req
844. We have a very special
announcement to make.Copy !req
845. So, we were gonna wait until
this weekend's ball to do this,Copy !req
846. but I think now is
a, a more appropriate time.Copy !req
