1. Six percent of
the total prison populationCopy !req
2. Is 55 and older.Copy !req
3. That's double
ten years ago.Copy !req
4. We say 55's oldCopy !req
5. 'cause criminal life
adds aboutCopy !req
6. Ten years
worth of wrinkles.Copy !req
7. Still, in Oz,
you get decent food,Copy !req
8. Exercise,
regular checkups.Copy !req
9. And if you
don't get whackedCopy !req
10. You live longer than you would
in your own hood.Copy !req
11. Yeah,
the prison system.Copy !req
12. It can keep you alive,Copy !req
13. But it can't
take care of you.Copy !req
14. I'm telling you,
we're ignoring the problem.Copy !req
15. We have to deal differently
with aging inmates.Copy !req
16. That's right, Oz was designed
to punish the young.Copy !req
17. To keep 'em in line,
to keep 'em down.Copy !req
18. But with a guy
like Rebadow,Copy !req
19. We don't need
to keep him down.Copy !req
20. What are you
proposing?Copy !req
21. We turn unit two into
a cellblock for seniors.Copy !req
22. They sleep
together there,Copy !req
23. They can eat
all their meals there,Copy !req
24. They want to watch the
TV shows they wanna watch.Copy !req
25. On Saturday night,
bingo?Copy !req
26. Why not?Copy !req
27. We need to
keep 'em active.Copy !req
28. And less stress will help
slow down the aging processCopy !req
29. Which will help save
on medical costs.Copy !req
30. Plus, the older guys
are not a security problem.Copy !req
31. You can save money
on the officers.Copy !req
32. Mcmanus, you've been
awfully quiet today.Copy !req
33. Never thought
I'd ask,Copy !req
34. But, do you have
an opinion on this?Copy !req
35. Sure.Copy !req
36. Sounds like
a good idea.Copy !req
37. That's it?Copy !req
38. Yep.Copy !req
39. Hmm...Copy !req
40. Fine.Copy !req
41. I'll run it
by the commissioner.Copy !req
42. Meeting adjourned.Copy !req
43. Finally.Copy !req
44. Hey, Tim,
you okay?Copy !req
45. You don't
look so good.Copy !req
46. You feeling alright?Copy !req
47. I said,
yeah, okay?Copy !req
48. Okay.Copy !req
49. Are you free
for dinner tonight?Copy !req
50. "dinner" ?Copy !req
51. You think
I'm an asshole.Copy !req
52. I do not think—Copy !req
53. I appreciate
the offer.Copy !req
54. But the last thing
I need from youCopy !req
55. Is a mercy dinner.Copy !req
56. Bob Rebadow's
in the hospital, Kenny.Copy !req
57. So?Copy !req
58. I'm pissed off
about that!Copy !req
59. So?Copy !req
60. So, I hear
you're responsible!Copy !req
61. Where'd you hear
that from?Copy !req
62. I got ears everywhere,
I know it's true.Copy !req
63. You don't hit
old men, Kenny.Copy !req
64. You don't
hit old men—Copy !req
65. What do you want?Copy !req
66. You see those guys
out there?Copy !req
67. If I tell 'em to, they will
gladly kick your ass!Copy !req
68. I'm not
afraid of them!Copy !req
69. You're not?Copy !req
70. No!Copy !req
71. What are you
afraid of?Copy !req
72. I ain't afraid
of nothin' !Copy !req
73. You afraid of this?Copy !req
74. Huh?Copy !req
75. You afraid
of dying?Copy !req
76. You little fuckin'
punk ass!Copy !req
77. Get him the
fuck outta here!Copy !req
78. Leo, what are you
doing here?Copy !req
79. Same thing you are,
I guess.Copy !req
80. I like to work out when
no one else is around.Copy !req
81. I'll ignore you
if you ignore me.Copy !req
82. Mcmanus...Copy !req
83. You okay?Copy !req
84. Why does everybody
keep asking me that?Copy !req
85. I don't know.Copy !req
86. Past few weeks
you seem different.Copy !req
87. I'm fine.Copy !req
88. Commissioner rejected
our proposalCopy !req
89. For a senior citizens unit.Copy !req
90. Big surprise.Copy !req
91. Commissioner
didn't reject it,Copy !req
92. Governor fuck-wad did.Copy !req
93. Well, Devlin's
almost out of office.Copy !req
94. He's on trial for
taking those kickbacks,Copy !req
95. For lying, fraud,Copy !req
96. Extortion.Copy !req
97. I'll miss him!Copy !req
98. I've been
hearing rumorsCopy !req
99. That you're living
in Emerald City.Copy !req
100. That you never
leave the grounds,Copy !req
101. You never
go home anymore.Copy !req
102. Since when do you
listen to gossip?Copy !req
103. I've been dancing down
these hallways a long time.Copy !req
104. I've seen this place
change people completelyCopy !req
105. And not just
the prisoners.Copy !req
106. If you're
not careful, Tim,Copy !req
107. Oz will nick
away at your soul.Copy !req
108. That's the first time
you ever called me "Tim".Copy !req
109. You don't even have to be
55 to be old.Copy !req
110. ( McManus )
take a break.Copy !req
111. ( guard )
okay, mr. Mcmanus.Copy !req
112. How you feeling?Copy !req
113. I can't
stay here anymore.Copy !req
114. In the hospital?Copy !req
115. In Oz.Copy !req
116. Why?Copy !req
117. I'm afraid.Copy !req
118. Of what?Copy !req
119. Them, the young.Copy !req
120. When I first
came to OzCopy !req
121. We treated our elders
with dignity.Copy !req
122. But these kids,
it's all different now.Copy !req
123. I've decided
to leave.Copy !req
124. "leave" ?Copy !req
125. Escape.Copy !req
126. How you gonna
do that?Copy !req
127. God will
show me the way.Copy !req
128. The human body,Copy !req
129. It's amazing.Copy !req
130. Made up
of all theseCopy !req
131. Cells and neutronsCopy !req
132. And veins
and shit like that.Copy !req
133. So many little pieces,Copy !req
134. So many things
that can break down.Copy !req
135. Add to that the wear and tear
we give our bodiesCopy !req
136. With the drugs
and drinkingCopy !req
137. And chicken fried steak.Copy !req
138. Amazing that any of us
is still standing,Copy !req
139. Still breathing.Copy !req
140. It's a miracle.Copy !req
141. Breakfast time, boys!Copy !req
142. Let's go, Alvarez.Copy !req
143. I think maybe
we got a problem.Copy !req
144. Look at Alvarez.Copy !req
145. Hey, Alvarez.Copy !req
146. You think
he's sleeping?Copy !req
147. Alvarez?Copy !req
148. Alvarez!Copy !req

155. life in prison,
solitary confinement.Copy !req
156. We're gonna start with
a series of tests.Copy !req
157. You have to go home?Copy !req
158. Your mother.Copy !req
159. Ricardo,
where are you?Copy !req
160. Do you know what
city you're in?Copy !req
161. So, the medication's
controlling
Kraigon's paranoia?Copy !req
162. Yeah, we should
keep him on it.Copy !req
163. Definitely.Copy !req
164. Next is
Miguel Alvarez.Copy !req
165. I'm scheduledCopy !req
166. To do a psychiatric
re-evaluation on Thursday.Copy !req
167. Good luck, his baby died
right after birth.Copy !req
168. He's pretty
depressed.Copy !req
169. He's about to become
even more depressed.Copy !req
170. His grandfather Ricardo,
has alzheimer's.Copy !req
171. Oh, boy,
does his family know?Copy !req
172. No, not yet.Copy !req
173. Ricardo's son, Eduardo,
is an orderly in my ward.Copy !req
174. I'll tell him when he
comes in for his shift.Copy !req
175. Eduardo, that's the one
with no tongue, right?Copy !req
176. I'll talk to Miguel.Copy !req
177. Listen Tim,
can I do that?Copy !req
178. If you don't mind.Copy !req
179. I'm always willing
to give up an opportunityCopy !req
180. To deliver bad news.Copy !req
181. Next...Copy !req
182. I need you
to come with me.Copy !req
183. I didn't do shit.Copy !req
184. Miguel, please?Copy !req
185. How come no one knew
that Ricardo's
mind was going?Copy !req
186. He's in solitary.Copy !req
187. He hardly says
three words a day to anyone.Copy !req
188. There's nothing we
could've done to
stop the disease anyway.Copy !req
189. What happens now?Copy !req
190. That's the
tricky part.Copy !req
191. Unfortunately Oz
is not equippedCopy !req
192. For long-term
custodial care.Copy !req
193. And there isn't
anywhere else to send him.Copy !req
194. You're telling me the state
doesn't have a placeCopy !req
195. To take care of
its old prisoners?Copy !req
196. The state's attitude
toward the elderly,Copy !req
197. Any elderly,
in or out of prison,Copy !req
198. Is hurry up
and die.Copy !req
199. I wanna see
my grandfather.Copy !req
200. Hey.Copy !req
201. Hey.Copy !req
202. It's me,
Miguel and Eduardo.Copy !req
203. Hey!Copy !req
204. Eduardo,
your son.Copy !req
205. Miguel, grandson.Copy !req
206. Hey!Copy !req
207. Hey, hey, hey... !Copy !req
208. You know what we should do
with Ricardo Alvarez?Copy !req
209. What's that?Copy !req
210. Let him go free.Copy !req
211. Hey, hey,
hey, hey,Copy !req
212. Hey, hey, hey, hey.Copy !req
213. "let him go free" ?Copy !req
214. The man is
a convicted killer.Copy !req
215. He stabbed the inmate
who cut his son's tongue out.Copy !req
216. And he's old.Copy !req
217. He's old, Leo.Copy !req
218. Old doesn't
necessarily mean nice.Copy !req
219. If you have any
doubts about that,Copy !req
220. Spend ten minutes
with my mother-in-law.Copy !req
221. Leo, a 31-year-old inmateCopy !req
222. Costs $21,000 a year
to maintain.Copy !req
223. A senior costs
three times that amount.Copy !req
224. Since when did you get
so interested in the budget?Copy !req
225. Since I figured out that
the money we're gonna wasteCopy !req
226. Taking care of
Ricardo alvarezCopy !req
227. Could be put
to much better use.Copy !req
228. Ricardo doesn't know
where he isCopy !req
229. Or why he's here!Copy !req
230. There is such a thing
as criminal menopause!Copy !req
231. He cannot commit
the crime again.Copy !req
232. The man is no longer
a threat to anybody.Copy !req
233. Yeah, but it didn't
change what he did.Copy !req
234. And it doesn't
change his sentence.Copy !req
235. Life imprisonment
means just that.Copy !req
236. Besides, if he really
doesn't know he's in prison,Copy !req
237. Then he's already free,
isn't he?Copy !req
238. While I was growing upCopy !req
239. Both my father and
my grandfather came to Oz.Copy !req
240. When I was little
I always wonderedCopy !req
241. What was so great
about prisonCopy !req
242. That they'd wanna
leave us and come here.Copy !req
243. But, you a kid,
you know,Copy !req
244. What do you know?Copy !req
245. Yeah.Copy !req
246. So, the word
"grandfather",Copy !req
247. What does the wordCopy !req
248. Mean to you,
emotionally?Copy !req
249. Nothin'.Copy !req
250. Don't mean nothin'
at all to me.Copy !req
251. "pizza" means more.Copy !req
252. "doorknob".Copy !req
253. Would you like
"grandfather"Copy !req
254. To mean something
to you?Copy !req
255. Yeah.Copy !req
256. Dr. Nathan's
not sure how longCopy !req
257. Your grandfather
has to live.Copy !req
258. Look...Copy !req
259. Since your father's
an orderly in the hospitalCopy !req
260. And is gonna spend
the remaining time
with your grandfatherCopy !req
261. There's no reason you can't
do the same thing.Copy !req
262. Maybe if you
take care of himCopy !req
263. You'll learn
to care for him.Copy !req
264. You know,
in my family,Copy !req
265. Ricardo was
like a God.Copy !req
266. He was a legend.Copy !req
267. My grandmother used to
show me these pictures.Copy !req
268. Tell me stories
all about him.Copy !req
269. And I wanted
to be like him.Copy !req
270. You know?Copy !req
271. Yeah.Copy !req
272. And now I see
he's just a man.Copy !req
273. He's just an old manCopy !req
274. And he's
rotting away.Copy !req
275. I don't wanna end up
like my grandfather.Copy !req
276. You don't
have to Miguel.Copy !req
277. Oh, really?Copy !req
278. Well, I don't see it
going down any other way.Copy !req
279. Rebadow.Copy !req
280. I'm sorry you didn't
make it out.Copy !req
281. It's okay,
it was worth it.Copy !req
282. The adrenaline rush,Copy !req
283. I felt 25 again
for a moment.Copy !req
284. Here's your dinner.Copy !req
285. I don't want it.Copy !req
286. Okay.Copy !req
287. What do you want?Copy !req
288. I'd like a few years
at the end of my lifeCopy !req
289. To be free.Copy !req
290. Do we care for people
when they're sickCopy !req
291. 'cause we actually
care about them?Copy !req
292. Guys...Copy !req
293. Or do we care for them
because when our time comesCopy !req
294. We want someone
to care for us?Copy !req
295. Or does it matter?Copy !req
296. At least you got
your health!Copy !req
297. Don't you hate it
when people say that?Copy !req
298. I mean, you lose your job,
you lose your wife,Copy !req
299. You're in prisonCopy !req
300. And some punk-ass
do-gooder says,Copy !req
301. "at least you got
your health!"Copy !req
302. Like that's supposed
to make you feel better!Copy !req
303. So what if I'm broke?Copy !req
304. So what if some dealer
wants to cap my ass?Copy !req
305. At least I ain't
got a tumor!Copy !req
306. I swear the next person that
says "a.L.Y.G.Y.H." to meCopy !req
307. I'm gonna make sure they ain't
got their health much longer.Copy !req
308. You say you were
having nightmares.Copy !req
309. Can you remember
any of them?Copy !req
310. No.Copy !req
311. Ow.Copy !req
312. What's the matter?Copy !req
313. My tooth hurts.Copy !req
314. It's been hurting
for a week.Copy !req
315. Then go
see a dentist.Copy !req
316. No.Copy !req
317. Why?Copy !req
318. I hate the dentist.Copy !req
319. All dentists, or just
dr. Coach in particular?Copy !req
320. The concept
of dentists.Copy !req
321. Then what?Copy !req
322. You prefer
the concept of pain?Copy !req
323. Make an
appointment Groves.Copy !req
324. Okay?Copy !req
325. Okay?Copy !req
326. Oh, God.Copy !req
327. What?Copy !req
328. Oh, sweet Jesus,Copy !req
329. Donald Groves is
coming in to see me.Copy !req
330. So?Copy !req
331. Gloria, he ate
his parents.Copy !req
332. I'm not sticking
my fingers in his mouth.Copy !req
333. My fingers
are my livelihood.Copy !req
334. He's been working
in the ward as an orderly,Copy !req
335. He seems harmless.Copy !req
336. You'd stick your fingers
in his mouth?Copy !req
337. If I had to.Copy !req
338. If he's in pain
you have to.Copy !req
339. No, I don't!Copy !req
340. What about
the hippocratic oath?Copy !req
341. Dentists don't take
the hippocratic oath.Copy !req
342. We don't make any
promises to anybody.Copy !req
343. How's that
gas working?Copy !req
344. You feel
happy, calm?Copy !req
345. Uh-huh.Copy !req
346. Good.Copy !req
347. Okay.Copy !req
348. Let's have a look.Copy !req
349. Open your mouth.Copy !req
350. Wide.Copy !req
351. Wider.Copy !req
352. Wider.Copy !req
353. It can't
get any wider.Copy !req
354. Alrighty then.Copy !req
355. They look fine.Copy !req
356. It hurts.Copy !req
357. It's probably nothing,
don't be a baby.Copy !req
358. Who you calling
a baby?Copy !req
359. Nobody.Copy !req
360. Forget it,
forget I said anything.Copy !req
361. Ah-ha.Copy !req
362. There is a tooth
that's rotted out.Copy !req
363. So we're going to
have to pull it.Copy !req
364. That means I have to
take a needleCopy !req
365. And inject some novocaine
in your mouth.Copy !req
366. I hate needles.Copy !req
367. Everybody does.Copy !req
368. Then I have to drill.Copy !req
369. I hate drills.Copy !req
370. Right now
so do I.Copy !req
371. Right now I wish there were
holistic dentistry.Copy !req
372. I'm in pain.Copy !req
373. You're going to be
in a lot moreCopy !req
374. Before we're finished.Copy !req
375. But after that
you won't have any pain.Copy !req
376. See, if I
cause you painCopy !req
377. It's not my fault,
so don't bite my head off.Copy !req
378. I mean—Copy !req
379. I know
what you mean.Copy !req
380. Okay.Copy !req
381. Let's get started,Copy !req
382. First,
the novocaine.Copy !req
383. Open wide.Copy !req
384. Carol?Copy !req
385. Could you give me
a hand here, please?Copy !req
386. This is my tooth.Copy !req
387. It was in my head.Copy !req
388. This tooth and I have been
together since we were kids.Copy !req
389. This tooth
chewed on my mom.Copy !req
390. You should sell it.Copy !req
391. "sell it" ?Copy !req
392. Sell it.Copy !req
393. The tooth from the mouth
of Donald Groves.Copy !req
394. You know how much that's worth
on the open market?Copy !req
395. How much?Copy !req
396. Plenty.Copy !req
397. Who would wanna
buy my tooth?Copy !req
398. Collectors.Copy !req
399. "collectors" ?Copy !req
400. People collect
everything.Copy !req
401. Stamps, salt
and pepper shakers,Copy !req
402. World's fair tchotchkes.Copy !req
403. Some people collect
crime stuff.Copy !req
404. Lindbergh ladder,Copy !req
405. Ted Bundy's
toenail clippings,Copy !req
406. And this.Copy !req
407. We'd have to get
to a fence, right?Copy !req
408. We're in prison.Copy !req
409. How hard's
that gonna be?Copy !req
410. If we get
a good price...Copy !req
411. I still got
30 more.Copy !req
412. The mind is just
like the body.Copy !req
413. It's under
constant assault.Copy !req
414. From fear and hateCopy !req
415. And our old pal
loneliness.Copy !req
416. These stings are as deadly
as any cancer cell.Copy !req
417. The mindCopy !req
418. Is just
like the body.Copy !req
419. The fact that the mind
can surviveCopy !req
420. Is a miracle.Copy !req
421. Damn!Copy !req
422. Alright, alright.Copy !req
423. Our next contestantCopy !req
424. Is the lovely
and talented,Copy !req
425. Tobias Beecher!Copy !req
426. Yo, chill,
you rowdy-ass motherfuckers.Copy !req
427. ( Augustus )
yo, next up
on the stage...Copy !req
428. You ready?Copy !req
429. Next on stage,
our very own...Copy !req
430. Doin' a drum solo.Copy !req
431. ( McManus )
we knew beecher
was doing drugs.Copy !req
432. Now I'm beginning
to figure it out.Copy !req
433. He thinks of himself
as a victim.Copy !req
434. So, he's not
gonna get betterCopy !req
435. Unless he feels he can
control his life.Copy !req
436. He's in prison,
Pete Marie.Copy !req
437. His life is totally
out of his control.Copy !req
438. Now we have to get him
back to before.Copy !req
439. We have to remind him
there's another victim here.Copy !req
440. A little girl
he killed.Copy !req
441. Hello.Copy !req
442. My husband
wouldn't come.Copy !req
443. He said he was afraid
he might kill you.Copy !req
444. This is Cathy.Copy !req
445. I'm sorry,
I didn't mean to—Copy !req
446. I'm not sure
why I came.Copy !req
447. At the trial
I was sitting behind you,Copy !req
448. I could barely
see your face.Copy !req
449. I guess I just wanted
to finally...Copy !req
450. See you.Copy !req
451. See your eyes
and to tell you...Copy !req
452. That I miss her.Copy !req

in the attempted rape...Copy !req
706. Oh, shit, Jackson Vayhue

he's coming to Oz.Copy !req
708. Judge Anthony Pipitone
levied the maximum sentenceCopy !req

815. You are
a role model.Copy !req
816. I didn't ask to be
nobody's role model.Copy !req
817. Nonetheless you are,Copy !req
818. And that carries
an enormous responsibility.Copy !req
819. Fuck you,Copy !req
820. Go preach that shit
to somebody else.Copy !req
821. Alright, my brother,Copy !req
822. But we will talk again.Copy !req

833. I've been jonesin'
for the jump over the wall.Copy !req
834. But all I keep coming back to
is them titties.Copy !req
835. Round and firm,Copy !req
836. For the vein burn.Copy !req
837. I keep bugging
over the reasonsCopy !req
838. For the shit I yearn.Copy !req

866. His vital signs
have yet to stabilize.Copy !req
867. He's not taking
his medication.Copy !req
868. That doesn't
make sense,Copy !req
869. A guy like said has
everything to live for.Copy !req

wanna let your guard down.Copy !req
875. Can't you switch
his prescription?Copy !req
876. Yeah, but they all
have side effects.Copy !req
877. If we don't get him
to take something and soon,Copy !req
878. It's only
a matter of timeCopy !req
879. Before his
blood pressure explodes.Copy !req
880. Don't think of me
as a psychologist.Copy !req
881. Don't think of me
as a nun.Copy !req
882. Think of me
as your mother!Copy !req
883. Kareem,
take your medicine!Copy !req
884. Sister, I thought
I was in hereCopy !req
885. For psychiatric evaluation.Copy !req
886. You are,Copy !req
887. Because when you play
with high blood pressureCopy !req
888. You are crazy.Copy !req
889. Oh, sister,
I'm far from crazy.Copy !req
890. God endowed me
with a mind.Copy !req
891. A free will.Copy !req
892. He gave me the
ability to chose.Copy !req
893. I choose
