1. You know the kind of guy who does nothin' but bad things

2. and then wonders why his life sucks?

3. Well, that was me.

4. Every time somethin' good happened to me,

5. somethin' bad was always waitin' around the corner.

6. Karma.

7. That's when I realized I had to change.

8. So, I made a list of everything bad I've ever done

9. and, one by one, I'm gonna make up for all my mistakes.

10. I'm just tryin' to be a better person.

11. Some people might be surprised to see me wearing a fancy jacket

12. with leather elbows and teaching a class.

13. All right, let's get started.

14. But how hard can it be to teach foreigners to speak American?

15. Hi.

16. My... name... is... Earl.

17. My... name... is... Earl.

18. Really?

19. Well, hello, Earl.

20. In my country, Earl's a boy's name.

21. So why am I here?

22. Number 27 on my list:

23. "Made fun of people with accents."

24. Ooh, not good.

25. That is berry, berry infected.

26. You could lose your arm.

27. This is berry, berry serious.

28. "Berry, berry"?

29. He can't say "V's."

30. Uh, pardon to interrupt,

31. We are looking for the station of the buses, ja?

32. Ah, ja, ja.

33. "Urchkey, birchkey, farton, churchkey."

34. Jou vant I take your plate?

35. No! I vant to suck your blood.

36. I wasn't sure how to make up for all the teasing I had done,

37. so I asked the one person I know who also talks funny—

38. I mean, speaks with an accent.

39. You made fun of the way people talk?

40. You should be ashamed of yourself.

41. I am. I just, I don't know how I'm going to make up for it.

42. You want to make up for laughing

43. at people who can't speak your language?

44. Teach them your language.

45. I could do that.

46. Does the manager know you wash off the plastic cups

47. and put them back in the rooms?

48. It was his idea.

49. He told me not to waste my time trying to be so clean

50. now that AAA took away our half a star.

51. So here I am, teaching.

52. The last time I stood in front of a roomful

53. of foreigners, I was robbing the DMV.

54. All right, guys,

55. let's try some basic directions.

56. To get to the library,

57. you need to take a left at the light.

58. Okay?

59. You, how do you get to the library?

60. My... name... is... Earl.

61. These people were not gonna find the library.

62. Man, that's crazy.

63. How do you come to this country

64. and expect to be able to find the liberry

65. and you can't even speak English?

66. Here's the food.

67. Thanks, Crab Man.

68. Hey, I've been thinking about coming up

69. with another phrase for when I drop off the food.

70. I have no opinion on that.

71. Yeah, it's tricky.

72. I like "Here's the food."

73. 'Cause that's what's happening.

74. Guess who just got out of prison not a day early

75. for good behavior?

76. Oh! Wow, my man!

77. Ralph Mariano.

78. Before he went to prison,

79. me, Randy and Ralph

80. used to hang out together and steal stuff.

81. Sometimes we'd have so much fun...

82. Hey, I made some nachos.

83. we'd forget to steal.

84. Yeah, 18 months. I missed you, buddy.

85. Yeah, oh, me, too, man.

86. Feels good to hug a man

87. and know it doesn't have to go anywhere.

88. How was prison?

89. They make you go to sleep real early?

90. Well, they turned the lights off at around 9:00,

91. but you can lay there in the dark as long as you want.

92. Hey, let me buy you a beer.

93. No, no. Hey, man, it's on me.

94. You know, in the joint,

95. the guards paid me 12 cents an hour

96. to do their taxes for them.

97. Man, those guys are going to be screwed.

98. Listen, don't tell Ralph about me turning my life around

99. and my list and everything, okay?

100. Why not?

101. Because I don't know

102. how he's gonna react.

103. I mean, I was the one who taught him to steal.

104. I'm like his wax-on, wax-off, paint-the-fence guy.

105. Mr. Miyagi.

106. What are you doing, Ralph?

107. Hey, Earl.

108. Hi, Randy.

109. I was just thinking about how much I wanted a gum ball,

110. but my mom won't give me a nickel till I clean my room.

111. Watch this.

112. We call that a street piñata.

113. Nice.

114. I'll go get us some sodas.

115. I knew I'd have to tell Ralph about the list sooner or later

116. but, for now, I just wanted to have fun like the old days.

117. Yeah.

118. Earl.

119. My... name... is... Earl.

120. Hey, there, buddy.

121. Hey... there... buddy.

122. Shh!

123. Shhhh...

124. Nothing for me, Tonto.

125. Sorry about that.

126. He's been in prison.

127. He doesn't know you're supposed to say Native American.

128. Yeah.

129. Not wanting to tell Ralph I'd gone straight

130. put me in somewhat of a pickle.

131. The guy just loves to steal.

132. It got me thinking.

133. What am I supposed to do

134. when someone around me loves doing bad things?

135. Check it out, man.

136. Runaway bride.

137. Does karma expect me to stop him?

138. I think I'm gonna let my sister use this dress.

139. You know, I bet you some guys would pay

140. a lot of money for a lap dance from a bride.

141. Even though I'm trying to be a better person,

142. will karma hold me responsible

143. for the bad things that my friends do?

144. Since the last time karma punished me, I was hit by a car

145. and ate steak out of a straw for three weeks,

146. I didn't want to find out.

147. So I spent the rest of the nightgoing back and making up

148. for all the bad things Ralph had done.

149. My friend ran out of here without paying

150. for some hair gel or something.

151. My... name... is... Earl.

152. Hey, ass wipe. I don't know what the hell

153. is on your Touched by an Angel list

154. that's making you teach people English,

155. but you need to stop.

156. Excuse me?

157. You got a Chinese girl in your class named Kim Lee?

158. She's not Chinese. She's Vietnamese.

159. Honey, I don't care

160. if she's Vietnamese, Chinese or Chuck E. Cheese,

161. she don't need to be learning no English.

162. Why?

163. Because it's gonna cut

164. into my premium nail-decorating business.

165. My ex-wife Joy runs a premium nail-decorating business

166. out of her trailer.

167. Now, did you want me to paint the zodiac signs on here?

168. I mean, there's 12,

169. but I can paint the extra two on your big toes.

170. Business was good until Kim Lee opened a similar

171. operation three trailers over.

172. Joy hated competition,

173. so she had to find a way to give herself an edge.

174. Look, Earl, you can't teach her how to talk.

175. I got kids to feed.

176. These are good people, Joy.

177. I mean, they have a right to learn whatever they want.

178. No, they don't.

179. There is nothing in the Bible

180. that says people have a right

181. to learn stuff. I have read it.

182. Look, I'm sorry, Joy. It's on my list.

183. I made fun of people who can't talk. I gotta do it.

184. What list?

185. Well, hey, Ralph.

186. How was prison?

187. I'd say about a "five."

188. What list?

189. It's nothing.

190. You mean, this idiot hasn't told you

191. about his stupid list yet?

192. Shut up. Yeah, he's a real

193. Goody Two-shoes now.

194. He's gone straight, and the rest of us have to pay for it.

195. ( chuckling ): Ha!

196. "Gone straight"?

197. Earl, what is she talking about?

198. Look, I was gonna tell you. I just didn't...

199. Wait, wait, wait.

200. Is that why my sister's wedding dress is gone?

201. Did you take it back?

202. I'm sorry, I had to. I don't steal anymore, Ralph.

203. I don't even know what to say.

204. Is his sister getting married?

205. Is she? 'Cause, if she didn't ask me to be a bridesmaid,

206. I swear to God, I will march right down there

207. to that Club Chubby,

208. and I will wrap her neck around that pole.

209. I explained everything

210. to Ralph over breakfast—

211. karma, the list, turning my life around.

212. He seemed more interested in his french fries

213. until I got to the part about the lottery money.

214. You won a $100,000?

215. Yep. 'Cause I started doing good things.

216. And I'm using the money to cross things off my list.

217. I'm telling you, this karma stuff works.

218. Karma, huh?

219. Yep. Like that tattoo on your arm.

220. And I thought that was two tadpoles doing it.

221. That's what I used to think.

222. Turns out, that's karma.

223. Mm-huh.

224. All right, good buddy, I'm in.

225. What?

226. Look, I'm in.

227. The only reason I steal is so I can have a better life,

228. and if you're saying I can have that with this here karma...

229. I'm in.

230. All right! Yeah.

231. Hey, this is two cougars doing it, right?

232. Yeah, that's two cougars doing it.

233. If Ralph was gonna go straight,

234. the first thing he needed was a job.

235. Luckily, I was friendly

236. with the manager of a local lamp store.

237. I mean, look at him.

238. It's like he was born to work with lamps.

239. With Ralph squared away, I went back to class.

240. Getting people to learn is hard work.

241. No wonder teachers make so much money.

242. One block,

243. then right.

244. Two blocks,

245. then left.

246. You see?

247. And that's how you get to where Earl lives.

248. Who wants to tell me how to get to where Earl lives?

249. How about...

250. Nescobar-A-Lop-Lop?

251. Erections lasting more than four hours, while rare,

252. require immediate medical attention.

253. Having them watch TV as homework wasn't working out.

254. And then I think he cursed me in his native language.

255. Seacrest out!

256. Thank you, Mr. A-Lop-Lop.

257. Uh...

258. Kim Lee.

259. Uh, can you tell me how to get to Earl's?

260. Where's Kim?

261. Okay, so when you're doing somebody's nails, you say,

262. "I do good job."

263. I do good job.

264. Okay, now, "I give you big infection."

265. I give you big infection.

266. That is so good. Uh-huh.

267. Class was frustrating,

268. and I was looking forward to hanging out with people

269. who knew how to speak our native tongue.

270. Hey, Earl, look where I moved in at.

271. You got your own place.

272. Good for you. Yeah, damn straight.

273. Yeah, you got a job and...

274. Yeah.

275. Wow. Uh, you got a lot of lamps in here.

276. Yeah, I-I stole 'em from work.

277. I figured that. Why?

278. Well, 'cause that's what I do, Earl. I steal things.

279. But I thought you were gonna change.

280. I know. I tried your way, I did.

281. I was good all morning, and then I went

282. and bought 20 lottery tickets at lunch.

283. I scratched 'em all, and I didn't win a damn thing.

284. Man, this karma stuff just don't work on me.

285. You got to give it time, man.

286. I don't think so, man.

287. Hey, I'm a thief, not a lamp salesman.

288. Ralph, uh, I hate to say it,

289. but I don't think I can hang out with you anymore.

290. Oh, come on, man. You serious?

291. I-I'm sorry, but I just... I can't be around you

292. if you're gonna be stealing things and...

293. and being bad.

294. Well, I'm definitely gonna be stealing things and being bad.

295. Yeah, I can see that.

296. Look, I-I'm sorry.

297. I don't know.

298. I... I guess

299. this means good-bye.

300. Yeah, I guess so.

301. You want to take a lamp with you?

302. No. That-That's a nice offer, Ralph, but I-I can't.

303. I can't do that.

304. Come on, Randy.

305. Uh, I'm gonna hang out.

306. What?

307. Ralph stole this hand dolly from work.

308. He's gonna push me around on it

309. in the parking lot real fast.

310. Randy, we got to go.

311. We got some, uh... some things on the list to do.

312. Earl, you got some things on the list to do.

313. I don't have a list.

314. I want to have fun.

315. All right, yeah.

316. You guys, uh, have a good time, you know?

317. Have a good time.

318. Yeah!

319. Why aren't you playing with your friend?

320. Because that dolly is stolen property.

321. I can't be a part of that.

322. Why is Randy out there?

323. Because Randy doesn't have a list, okay?

324. Randy's a big boy who is allowed

325. to make his own decisions in life.

326. And, if that decision is to choose a fast ride

327. in a parking lot on a stolen hand dolly

328. over his own brother, then that's his pergovadid.

329. I meant, parvaca...

330. What's the word?

331. I learned English a year ago.

332. Well, whatever it is, it's his.

333. Piranajid?

334. Maybe.

335. The next couple days, Randy spent almost all his time

336. hanging out with Ralph and, the truth is,

337. I really started to miss him.

338. But I didn't have time to mope.

339. I had a classroom full of new Americans

340. eager to not understand a word I said.

341. Hello.

342. Earl, it's Ralph.

343. We got a big problem.

344. Randy and I were trying to break into a house,

345. and he got stuck in the chimney.

346. We went in Santa-style, took a shot.

347. Damn it, Ralph.

348. I knew something like this was gonna happen.

349. This is the karma I was telling you about.

350. Where are you?

351. Who were you talking to?

352. I don't know. It was my mother.

353. A little bitty squirrel got into her house,

354. and, uh, she tried to chase it around

355. and hit it in the head with a lamp.

356. Sorry about that, man.

357. Oh, good, you're awake.

358. How did we get in my room?

359. Hey, where does Earl keep

360. that hundred grand he won?

361. You hit me in the head with a lamp.

362. Oh, yeah, I'm sorry about that, man.

363. I really am.

364. Money does bad things to people.

365. There ain't no excuse for it.

366. People are just weak, don't you think?

367. I guess, yeah.

368. So, where does Earl keep that money?

369. I'm not gonna help you steal from my brother.

370. See, Randy, I was hoping you wouldn't say that.

371. Where's the money?

372. I'm not telling.

373. I'm sorry, man, I really am.

374. I'm a bad person.

375. I can't help myself.

376. I know.

377. It's not your fault.

378. Okay.

379. But I didn't call anyone about my chimney.

380. Just a routine check, ma'am.

381. Randy?

382. Why are you calling my chimney Randy?

383. Oh, I-I call all chimneys Randy.

384. It's how the chimney-sweeps in London refer to them.

385. You know, "Clean your Randy for you, mum?"

386. Yeah.

387. This chimney was made in England.

388. Randy?

389. Randy?

390. I'm getting my gun.

391. Oh. Let's not do that.

392. I don't want to.

393. I really don't.

394. You're a good friend of mine.

395. I don't want to burn your testicles.

396. Then let's just stop now

397. and forget this whole thing ever happened.

398. I'd like that.

399. Soon as you tell me where Earl keeps his money.

400. All right, all right.

401. It's not in the room.

402. It's in a safe deposit box, but you'll never find the key,

403. 'cause Earl keeps it on him.

404. Now, please don't burn my cherries.

405. Clearly, Randy was not stuck in a chimney.

406. Which was good, because it meant

407. he learned his lesson from the last two times.

408. But something weird was going on.

409. Randy?

410. Ba-bam!

411. Earl?

412. Ow.

413. That hurt.

414. What happened?

415. Ralph set us up.

416. He took your safe deposit key and your driver's license,

417. and he's on his way down to the bank

418. to steal your lottery money.

419. They're not gonna give him my money.

420. He doesn't look anything like me.

421. He did before he left.

422. Yeah.

423. Hey, man, what do you think?

424. I believe in karma.

425. Do good things, and good things happen.

426. I'm sorry, Earl.

427. It's my fault.

428. I was bad, and something bad happened to me.

429. Karma.

430. It's like you're always telling me.

431. It just doesn't make sense, though.

432. Why is karma punishing me?

433. You were the one doing bad things with Ralph.

434. I've been good.

435. Yeah, you have been good.

436. Hey, maybe if you call karma, it'll come and save us.

437. Call it.

438. Randy, it doesn't work like that.

439. It's karma, not Lassie.

440. Come on, you can just try it.

441. Randy, I'm not gonna... Come on, Earl.

442. We're about to lose everything, and it's all my fault.

443. Can't you just try it?

444. Fine.

445. Karma!

446. See? It doesn't work.

447. ( whispers ): Try it louder.

448. Karma!

449. Hello.

450. Son of a bitch.

451. Look, Earl,

452. it's karma's army.

453. Made up of people from all the lands of all the worlds.

454. What are you guys doing here?

455. Earl no come class.

456. Well, how'd you find me?

457. One block, then right.

458. Two blocks, then left.

459. That's how you get to where Earl lives.

460. Well, look at that.

461. I did teach you something.

462. Thanks, karma.

463. When I got untied,

464. I called the bank to stop Ralph.

465. And they called the police.

466. They might have caught him if they had another cop,

467. but Officer Lee was busy with a family emergency.

468. "... big infection."

469. Look, I don't even know

470. if what she's talking is a real language

471. but, if it is, it's a lie.

472. Thanks to karma, my money was safe,

473. and things were back to normal.

474. And, thanks to my students, I was able to cross

475. "Make fun of people with accents" off my list.

476. Time to get your grub on.

477. It looks delicious.

478. Thank you very much, Crab Man.

479. No problem, Nescobar-A-Lop-Lop.

480. And as for Ralph, well, I could have told the police

481. where to find him but, as crazy as it sounds,

482. he's still my friend.

483. Besides, nobody should get their third strike

484. for assault with a lamp.

485. Hey, Earl, here's your, uh, safe deposit key back.

486. I want to apologize for everything.

487. I got a little crazy there, but, uh...

488. you know how these things go.

489. No problem.

490. Hey, Randy, you want to play a little pool?

491. No, I'm good.

492. Me and Earl got some stuff

493. we got to take care of on his list.

494. Okay.

495. Thanks, man.

496. No, problem, Earl.

497. Seacrest out.
