- Roger.Copy !req
37. I'm gonna try to get us across
the Russian lines where we'll be safe.Copy !req
38. Yes, sir. Your ship, Rosie.Copy !req
39. Come on. Come on.
Hold together a little longer.Copy !req
40. We're losing speed. Should we bail?Copy !req
41. Not yet. We're not going down in Berlin.Copy !req
42. Come on, come on, come on.
A little longer.Copy !req
43. Major, left wing is shredded.Copy !req
44. We're almost there.Copy !req
45. That's it. She's gonna stall.Copy !req
46. Bail. Hit the alarm and then go.Copy !req
47. We can make it across the river from here.Copy !req

They won't say how far or for how long.Copy !req
64. Thirty minutes. Jesus.Copy !req
65. All right. Pack it up. Let's go.
Wear the warmest clothes you got.Copy !req
66. Where do you think we're going?Copy !req
67. I don't know. Allies must be close.Copy !req
68. Get your warmest gear.Copy !req
69. Only essentials.Copy !req
70. Just break it.Copy !req
71. Let's go.Copy !req
72. Bring matches.Copy !req
73. Only take food that will keep.Copy !req
74. The Krauts have already punched holes
in the cans.Copy !req
75. They won't keep.Copy !req

77. - Get your hands off it!
- That's mine!Copy !req
78. Get off me!Copy !req

if the Russians made it here first.Copy !req
81. You're not thinking of running, are you?Copy !req
82. You're not thinking of running, are you?Copy !req
83. Not in this icebox.Copy !req
84. Ham.Copy !req
85. Hambone. I wouldn't do that if I were you.Copy !req
86. Yeah?Copy !req
87. Who knows when we're gonna get
this kind of food again, you know?Copy !req
88. Fuck off.Copy !req
89. Anyone who tries to escape will be shot.
Please do not try.Copy !req
90. That's the Russians. They're close.Copy !req
91. That's gotta be the Russians.Copy !req
92. Shut your mouth, Black scum!
March! Faster! Faster!Copy !req
93. Okay, we're going.
We're going. We're going.Copy !req
94. That's how you handle
terror flyers and murderers.Copy !req
95. With force!Copy !req
96. You okay, Solomon?Copy !req
97. As okay as a Jew taking a midnight stroll
in Germany can be.Copy !req
98. - Bucky warned you not to—
- Don't fucking say it.Copy !req
99. Okay.Copy !req
100. Yeah.Copy !req
101. Well, look, as soon as you have
anything at all, you let me know. Okay?Copy !req
102. Thanks, Bill.Copy !req
103. Nothing. Still no news on any of 'em,
Rosie or the crew.Copy !req
104. So what's the story?Copy !req
105. They went down over no-man's-land
east of Berlin.Copy !req
106. Jesus Christ.Copy !req
107. Major, sir.Copy !req
108. The hell are you doing here, son?Copy !req
109. We got wheels up in five,
and the equipment room's locked.Copy !req
110. Let's move, people. Look alive. Let's go.Copy !req
111. - You fucking—
- Hey, Clouter.Copy !req
112. What are you laughing at?
You had a big, fat wren last week.Copy !req
113. I guess you've never flown over Germany
without a parachute, huh?Copy !req
114. Well, I don't know, Crosby. Have you?Copy !req
115. Now, from here on out,Copy !req
116. you're gonna keep that equipment hut
opened and manned until wheels upCopy !req
117. plus 30 minutes. Yes, Major?Copy !req

121. Danke. Thank you.Copy !req
122. Get off the road!Copy !req
123. - To the side.
- Get off the road.Copy !req
124. - Move!
- You hear me?Copy !req
125. - Off the road. Now.
- Move it.Copy !req
126. For blood and soil!Copy !req
127. Stand up and show respect
for our heroic fighters!Copy !req
128. Heil Hitler.Copy !req
129. Children and old men.Copy !req
130. All is lost.Copy !req
131. MUSKAU BRICKWORKSCopy !req
132. Don't run, don't run, don't run.Copy !req
133. Hey, there's enough room for everyone.Copy !req
134. Come on. Get in close. Get in close.Copy !req
135. Scuttlebutt is we're heading
to a train station at first light.Copy !req
136. Scuttlebutt know where we're going?Copy !req
137. No. Just to be ready at dawn.Copy !req
138. This isn't good. They're gonna take us
somewhere and kill us, aren't they?Copy !req
139. Why move us?Copy !req
140. They've had plenty of chances
if they really wanted to kill us.Copy !req
141. - I don't know. They're Nazis.
- It'll be okay, Solly.Copy !req
142. Hasn't gone exactly how we thought,
has it?Copy !req
143. Not exactly.
You wish you'd done it differently?Copy !req
144. Can't say I would have. You?Copy !req
145. I wasn't planning on getting shot down.Copy !req
146. You know, I really did believe
that if there was only two B-17s left,Copy !req
147. be you and me flying 'em.Copy !req
148. Last few years would have been
a lot rougher without you, John.Copy !req
149. Same.Copy !req
150. We're slowing down, aren't we?Copy !req
151. Any idea where we are?Copy !req
152. NUREMBERG CENTRAL STATIONCopy !req
153. Nuremberg. Shit! It's Nuremberg.
It's fucking Nuremberg. I me—Copy !req
154. - Settle down, Solly.
- Calm down.Copy !req
155. - I'm a dead man.
- It's all right, Solly.Copy !req
156. We're in the heart
of their fatherland now, boys.Copy !req
157. Gale? Gale!Copy !req
158. Gale Cleven.Copy !req
159. Jesus, I'll be.Copy !req
160. George. How the hell are you?Copy !req
161. Long way from home.Copy !req
162. Oh, my God.
Hey, this is George Neithammer.Copy !req
163. - John.
- Only guy I've ever metCopy !req
164. - knows more about baseball than you do.
- Is that right?Copy !req
165. - Who's your team?
- Yankees. You?Copy !req
166. - Cubs.
- There's always next year.Copy !req
167. So I'll see if we can find
you boys some tents with some fires going.Copy !req
168. I'm warning you, most of them don't.Copy !req
169. That's okay.
Happy enough to just get out of the snow.Copy !req
170. The general says
that he can take at airportCopy !req
171. at Baranavichy,Copy !req
172. for a flight to Moscow.Copy !req
173. From there to England.Copy !req
174. He warns you that the road
is going to be very dangerous.Copy !req
175. Possibly via Tehran.Copy !req
176. For the smell.Copy !req
177. There is a wagon ahead
that had lost its wheel.Copy !req
178. They have to fix it.Copy !req
179. Do you mind if I— if I stretch my legs?Copy !req
180. "THE JUDGE OF LIFE,
WILL JUDGE FOR LIFE."Copy !req
181. We found many of these camps.Copy !req
182. Everyone's already dead and burned
before we arrived.Copy !req
183. There's— There's more of them?Copy !req
184. Yes. Our comrades found even bigger camps
than this.Copy !req
185. They were built for killing people,
many people at a time.Copy !req
186. Poles, Russians. Mostly Jews.Copy !req
187. The wagon, it is clear. We can resume.Copy !req
188. Stay here, Major, and I will find out
when the next plane for Moscow leaves.Copy !req
189. Thank you, Lieutenant.Copy !req
190. Where are you headed?
Are you— you headed home?Copy !req
191. Home? Family?Copy !req
192. He says his family are all dead,
buried in his village.Copy !req
193. He said he buried them himselfCopy !req
194. with the other villagers
the Germans killed.Copy !req
195. The Germans, they ordered him
to fill in the ditch.Copy !req
196. Somewhere in there, his wife,
his daughter, his grandchildren.Copy !req
197. So, he takes the shovel.Copy !req
198. To live... one must make choices.Copy !req
199. Where will he go now?Copy !req
200. Major, the plane to Moscow is boarding.Copy !req
201. Go with God.Copy !req
202. He says if God exists,
He has forgotten him.Copy !req
203. Not even the earth that
covers our bones will remember us.Copy !req
204. Major! Major, we must go. Come, hurry.Copy !req
205. Let's go.Copy !req
206. What did he say?Copy !req
207. The Germans want to stay
ahead of the Allies.Copy !req
208. They're worried they're getting
too close again, so another march.Copy !req
209. We leave at 1900 hours.Copy !req
210. Another night march?Copy !req
211. Yeah, but I told them we won't go
more than 20 kilometers a night,Copy !req
212. and they agreed.Copy !req
213. Spread the word.Copy !req
214. Popeye's saying they're taking us
across the Danube tomorrow.Copy !req
215. We move tonight or we don't move at all.Copy !req
216. - Tonight?
- Tonight.Copy !req
217. We won't be able to make a run for it
after that, Gale.Copy !req
218. The river's too damn big
to get back to this side.Copy !req
219. Listen, guys are starting to
break out into groups.Copy !req
220. Buck, if we keep it tight—
me, you, George, Aring—Copy !req
221. you know, it's a better chance
to move unseen.Copy !req
222. - P-51!
- Cigarettes and torches, put 'em all out!Copy !req
223. Put those out!Copy !req
224. Glemnitz! We told you
we had to stop marching at night.Copy !req
225. We're being attacked
by our own goddamn planes.Copy !req
226. - It's not safe. We told you it's not safe.
- Bucky, calm down!Copy !req
227. - It's not goddamn safe. We told you.
- John, look at me. Look at me.Copy !req
228. Look at me. I'm in.Copy !req
229. We make a run for it tonight.Copy !req
230. Calm down
before they put a bullet in your head.Copy !req
231. Move it! March, march, march!Copy !req
232. Bob, go tell Simoleit
we've done our 20 kilometers.Copy !req
233. We're stopping here and now.Copy !req
234. Yes, sir.Copy !req
235. Korlesky, Tiller,
I want you to scout for billets.Copy !req
236. Abandoned buildings— Church, school.
Whatever you can find.Copy !req
237. According to Jefferson's map,
there's a forest a few miles northwest.Copy !req
238. If we make it that far,
we should be pretty well covered.Copy !req
239. We'll make it that far.Copy !req
240. I say we head down that way,Copy !req
241. take advantage of the confusion
while we still can.Copy !req
242. Over that wall.Copy !req
243. All right. Who wants to go first?Copy !req
244. I'll go.Copy !req
245. All right, Bill. Go.Copy !req
246. All right.Copy !req
247. - Get going. I'm right behind you.
- All right.Copy !req
248. Halt! Halt!Copy !req
249. Hey, don't shoot.Copy !req
250. - Go, Buck. Get out of here.
- Halt!Copy !req
251. Release that man. Now.Copy !req
252. Let him go.Copy !req
253. Goddamn it. You touch one hair
on his head, and you'll have a riot.Copy !req
254. Glemnitz.Copy !req
255. This is one of my senior officers,
and he is essential to—Copy !req
256. Sergeant, order your man
to release Major Egan.Copy !req
257. Now.Copy !req
258. The hell was that all about?Copy !req
259. George, Bill and Buck,
they went over that wall.Copy !req
260. You hear that?Copy !req
261. Sounds like GMCs.Copy !req
262. Looks like they're retreating.Copy !req
263. Pig!Copy !req
264. Please.Copy !req
265. Please.Copy !req
266. Go!Copy !req
267. Go.Copy !req
268. Fucking kids.Copy !req
269. We gotta go, Buck.Copy !req
270. Buck.Copy !req
271. They didn't even have any goddamn bullets.Copy !req
272. Let's go.Copy !req
273. There he is. He made it!Copy !req
274. Welcome back, Major!Copy !req
275. Hey.Copy !req
276. - How's it going, boys?
- You made it back, Rosie!Copy !req
277. He's back. Major Rosenthal made it.Copy !req
278. Come on!Copy !req
279. Hey, boys.Copy !req
280. - Aggie, how are you, my friend?
- You made it.Copy !req
281. - Hey, don't get run over.
- You want me to stop?Copy !req
282. No, no, no.Copy !req
283. Welcome back, Rosie!Copy !req
284. All right, Rosie!Copy !req
285. Rosie! Yeah!Copy !req
286. And then from Poltava,
we flew in a C-46 to Iran,Copy !req
287. and then,Copy !req
288. same C-46 to a place called El-Aden—
which is a Brit base—Copy !req
289. and then up through Athens
and then Rome and Naples.Copy !req
290. And then, get this,Copy !req
291. we got transferred to Winston Churchill's
personal converted B-24 Liberator—Copy !req
292. I kid you not—Copy !req
293. for the flight back to St. Mawgan's.Copy !req
294. How are you?Copy !req
295. How's Jean?Copy !req
296. She's pregnant.Copy !req
297. I'm gonna be a father.Copy !req
298. You kidding me?Copy !req
299. Croz.Copy !req
300. Croz, congratulations!Copy !req
301. God, I'm so happy for you two.Copy !req
302. Yeah. Yeah.Copy !req
303. That's— That's a good thing. Right?Copy !req
304. - Yes.
- All right.Copy !req
305. Are you sure?Copy !req
306. Yes. You know, it's...Copy !req
307. I don't know, it's—Copy !req
308. You know, all this killing we do,Copy !req
309. you know, day in, day out...Copy !req
310. does something to a guy.Copy !req
311. Makes him...Copy !req
312. different...Copy !req
313. not in a good way.Copy !req
314. You know, Rosie, sometimes I wake up...Copy !req
315. I don't even recognize myself
in the mirror.Copy !req
316. It reminds me of this quote I read
at college, from Nietzsche.Copy !req
317. He said...Copy !req
318. "Whoever fights monsters...Copy !req
319. should take care
not to become a monster himself.Copy !req
320. Because if you gaze into the abyss...Copy !req
321. the abyss gazes right back into you."Copy !req
322. We're here to fight the monsters, Croz.Copy !req
323. Yeah.Copy !req
324. And, yeah—Copy !req
325. Yeah, that's made us do some tough things...Copy !req
326. but we had to.Copy !req
327. There's no other way.Copy !req
328. The things these people are capable of...Copy !req
329. No, they got it coming.Copy !req
330. Trust me.Copy !req
331. They got it coming.Copy !req
332. Stop right there!Copy !req
333. - Hey! Americans!
- Whoa, we're Americans!Copy !req
334. Americans! We're American airmen!Copy !req
335. Keep your hands up!Copy !req
336. We got two here. They say they're ours.Copy !req
337. They look like POWs.Copy !req
338. All right. Bring 'em in.Copy !req
339. All right. At ease.Copy !req
340. Bob, find a place
to get 'em out of the weather.Copy !req
341. Yes, sir.Copy !req
342. Well, I guess
they're not gonna process us.Copy !req
343. Doesn't look like it.Copy !req
344. Let's go.Copy !req
345. Thanks for the lift, guys.Copy !req
346. Major. Welcome back.Copy !req
347. Crosby, they still got you at this dump?Copy !req
348. Sure do.Copy !req
349. - Major.
- Rosie.Copy !req
350. - Good to have you back, sir!
- Major, welcome back!Copy !req
351. Lemmons.Copy !req
352. - Gentlemen.
- Good to have you back.Copy !req
353. You got a musette bag, Major?Copy !req
354. No, I left that
in the suite at the stalag.Copy !req
355. What you see is what I've got.Copy !req
356. I gotta thank the CO
for letting Hank pick me up in Paris.Copy !req
357. We've been running a few shuttle missions
the past couple weeks.Copy !req
358. What's this for?Copy !req
359. The Dutch are starving to death,Copy !req
360. so the Allies are dropping tons of food
west and southwest of the Zuider Zee.Copy !req
361. Supposed to be a flak truce
with the Germans,Copy !req
362. so no flak or AA guns.Copy !req
363. So far, they have refused,
but, hell, we're flying anyway.Copy !req
364. Egan wouldn't let us ship it
to your folks.Copy !req
365. Kept saying, "I expect him back,"Copy !req
366. and "My buddy's just MIA."Copy !req
367. So, Major,Copy !req
368. operations was kind of hoping
you wouldn't mind flyingCopy !req
369. on this mercy mission
I was just telling you about.Copy !req
370. Should be a milk run,Copy !req
371. but you can't be sure
what the Germans are gonna do.Copy !req
372. Be nice to get behind the yoke again.Copy !req
373. So Bucky didn't make the breakout
with you, huh?Copy !req
374. No. No, Bucky had to—
He had to stay behind with the men.Copy !req
375. He's okay though, right?Copy !req
376. Yeah, when do you ever know him
not to be okay?Copy !req
377. I'm guessing when this is all over, Alex,Copy !req
378. they'll probably send us home
out of Marseille or Le Havre.Copy !req
379. I can't see 'em shipping us
out of Merry Old England.Copy !req
380. Hey, hey!Copy !req
381. Macon, that's a P-51.Copy !req
382. It's the Yanks!Copy !req
383. That's a P-51.Copy !req
384. Here they come!Copy !req
385. He's coming back.Copy !req
386. He's coming back!Copy !req
387. Down! Get down!Copy !req
388. Yeah! Come on!Copy !req
389. All right, we're going home!Copy !req
390. Come on!Copy !req
391. Everybody down!Copy !req
392. Move! Get out of the way!Copy !req
393. Fellas! Take out the tower!Copy !req
394. Buckle, Kraut!Copy !req
395. Hey, guys, you got a flag?
Who's got the flag?Copy !req
396. No flag, sir.Copy !req
397. - You got a flag in here?
- No flag, sir!Copy !req
398. - Flag! No flags at all, huh?
- No flag.Copy !req
399. - No flag at all?
- Get our flag!Copy !req
400. - Hey, hey, you got a flag?
- I've got it! Here.Copy !req
401. Major!Copy !req
402. Here it is.Copy !req
403. Help me up!Copy !req
404. - Don't shoot.
- Give me one reason.Copy !req
405. Stay reasonable.Copy !req
406. We're going home!Copy !req
407. Freedom!Copy !req
408. How does it feel?Copy !req
409. - Yeah!
- Yeah! Take that thing down!Copy !req
410. Go, Bucky!Copy !req
411. Bucky! Come on. Yeah!Copy !req
412. Yeah! Tear it up!Copy !req
413. Yeah! Do it! Tear it up!Copy !req
