1. How about that? Weren't they wonderful?

2. Hey, whaddaya say out there?

3. How about that, huh?

4. Let's hear it out there.

5. The lovely Miller Sisters.

6. See you later, girls. Go to my dressing room and lie down.

7. They really are wonderful,

8. and it's a lot of fun traveling with them.

9. Of course, they keep us in separate cages.

10. Not that I can't be trusted.

11. I happen to be married

12. to a woman who's a terrific sport.

13. She even looks like Joe DiMaggio.

14. Joe DiMaggio? Yeah, she's so ugly that—

15. Anybody out there, or have we been captured?

16. But all kidding aside,

17. I just want to say to all you guys and nurses

18. what a thrill it is to be here in Korea with you.

19. I mean, we're all in this together, right?

20. That guy's first. Get this guy inside.

21. We're debride his leg under local.

22. Give him a third of a grain of morphine.

23. Hold on, Pierce. A quarter of a grain's enough.

24. - A third. - Stop!

25. Are you going over my head?

26. No, just through the hole in it.

27. - Go ahead. - Now you hold it!

28. And that's an order!

29. Move! That's a threat!

30. This happens to be a gold oak leaf.

31. I thought it was a little big for dandruff.

32. Look, Frank, he's a big guy. He's in severe pain.

33. He can handle a third of a grain.

34. If not, there's an anesthesiologist inside

35. to support breathing. Go do what I said.

36. I'll take responsibility.

37. Informed opinion says a quarter.

38. Informed opinion wasn't lying on a stretcher

39. with a boot full of blood.

40. You've insulted me in the presence of others

41. for the last time.

42. Don't forget your hat, Frank.

43. So this guy with laryngitis,

44. he goes to the doctor's office, he walks in,

45. and he sees a beautiful nurse. But I mean beautiful.

46. I mean, she's built like a brick hospital.

47. Ha ha ha. Down, Charlie.

48. So he walks in, the guy with laryngitis,

49. and he says, (whisper) "Is the doctor in?"

50. And the nurse winks and says (whisper) "No, come on in."

51. Yeah, but really, though,

52. I know how hard you medics and nurses really work.

53. I really do. Although...

54. I wouldn't mind being paid for playin' doctor, though.

55. - I can tell you that. - (rim shot)

56. How am I doin'?

57. Not too good, Trapper.

58. His BP's low.

59. His pulse is rapid.

60. Give me another unit of blood.

61. I gotta go into his chest.

62. This could take a while.

63. I hope he doesn't have a late date.

64. Is it absolutely necessary to make

65. bad jokes while you're operating?

66. Absolutely.

67. - Scalpel. - Scalpel.

68. I've found it invaluable to make bad jokes

69. ever since I did my first autopsy

70. when my colleagues put a kidney under my cap.

71. - Sponge. - Sponge.

72. Okay, how am I doin' now?

73. You're fine. He's in trouble.

74. Can I be of any help?

75. You can pray for me to become a better doctor

76. in the next five minutes.

77. Excuse me, Father.

78. Why aren't you out there at the switchboard?

79. Well, you asked me to come in the office.

80. Well, they could phone about my wife at any minute.

81. Well, you just spoke to the hospital.

82. She hasn't even gone into labor yet.

83. Don't argue with me!

84. It's bad enough that she's having a baby

85. and I can't even be there with her.

86. Yes, sir.

87. Well, at least you were there for the important part.

88. You know that ancient joke about the guy

89. who saves his regiment? Shoots the cook?

90. No, how's it go?

91. Uh, Kaplan, pass the salt.

92. No.

93. I beg your pardon?

94. You're looking at one dentist

95. who's not touching anything

96. that hasn't been checked by the bomb squad.

97. You been taking rides in your chair again, Kaplan?

98. You know that makes you dizzy.

99. Reach into my pocket.

100. I hardly know you.

101. My shirt pocket.

102. Those are my travel orders. I'm going home today.

103. No kidding.

104. You mind if I look at these for drooling purposes?

105. You unfold it. If I do it,

106. I could get a paper cut.

107. I'm not having any last-minute infections.

108. Aren't you stretching things a bit?

109. I haven't even used the latrine in 18 hours.

110. Now that's something I didn't have to know.

111. In my pocket.

112. Can't be too careful.

113. Friend of mine got his orders,

114. broke his leg the next day.

115. Got it tangled in a nurse at his farewell party.

116. Well, you got a good point there, Kaplan.

117. Good luck.

118. You're not eating, Father.

119. You know something I don't know?

120. Something's troubling me, Hawkeye.

121. Think of me as your mother, Father.

122. May I make a confession?

123. As long as you don't use any real names.

124. For some time now, I've been comparing

125. the disparity of our callings.

126. Doctor versus priest.

127. You fellows are always able to see

128. the end result of your work.

129. I mean, you know immediately

130. if you've been successful.

131. For me, the results are far less tangible.

132. Sometimes— most of the time—

133. I-I honestly don't know whether I'm doing any good or not.

134. I used to have a professor in med school

135. who always said, "God cures the patients,

136. "but the doctor takes the fee."

137. Do you think that's true?

138. I'm able to do a lot of things in surgery

139. that I'm not really good enough to do.

140. Thanks, Hawkeye.

141. - Give me some suction. - Yes, Doctor.

142. Feels like someone used my eyeballs for a teabag.

143. Nurse!

144. Trapper, you better not be much longer.

145. - Clamp? - Clamp. Thanks.

146. Okay, come on. Stay with us, will ya?

147. Hello? Hello, uh, Bloomington, Illinois?

148. Uh, yes, General Hospital?

149. You got them?

150. Uh, I'm calling about Mrs. Henry Blake.

151. Uh, Maternity.

152. Ah, right. She's pregnant...

153. you know, with a baby.

154. Yeah? Well, okay, okay.

155. They're ringing her room.

156. Boy, can you imagine? Can you imagine?

157. I am becoming a father for the third time.

158. - Oh, yes, sir. - "Oh, yes, sir" is right.

159. They know what causes that now.

160. - What are they doing? - Hello? Yes?

161. I'm still holding, operator.

162. Why am I so nervous?

163. For gosh sakes, she's got the best obstetrician in town,

164. Marv Handleman.

165. He could deliver a baby with his eyes shut.

166. That's the only way I'd do it, sir.

167. Yes? What?

168. Are you sure?

169. - Uh, sir? - What?

170. She's not there anymore.

171. What d'ya mean, she's not there anymore?

172. Uh, w-w-we'll get right back to ya.

173. - I-I just— - No, it's all right.

174. Uh, they sent her home.

175. She had a false labor.

176. She had a what?

177. A false labor?

178. - Radar? - Steady, sir.

179. - I'm not gonna make it. - Steady, sir.

180. Just sit. Okay.

181. Everything's gonna be fine.

182. Would you believe that I've got a craving

183. for dill pickles?

184. That's the last of the shrapnel.

185. Better close him fast.

186. Give me some 3-0 silk.

187. Right here.

188. I've lost the pulse.

189. I'm gonna massage the heart.

190. Get some adrenaline ready.

191. Hang on, damn it.

192. Still no pulse.

193. Adrenaline!

194. Let's go! Let's go!

195. It's going again.

196. But it's irregular.

197. Oh, damn it.

198. Aah!

199. Yes, operator, go ahead, I can hear you.

200. Seven pounds, two ounces, 21 inches?

201. What's, uh, seven pounds, two ounces?

202. Your son, sir.

203. My son?

204. My wife's had a boy?

205. Well, it isn't a girl-son, sir.

206. Your wife is doing just fine.

207. It's the hospital.

208. The hospital?

209. Oh, yeah.

210. Uh, listen.

211. Uh, tell Mildred— uh, Mrs. Blake—

212. that her husband Henry, uh, loves her very much.

213. - She didn't hear your name. - And that I'll— What?

214. - She didn't hear your name. - Henry.

215. H as in— Never mind. She knows my name.

216. Um, just tell her that I love her

217. and that I'll call her

218. and that, uh, all my labor pains have stopped.

219. Goodbye.

220. Congratulations, sir.

221. Thanks, Radar.

222. A son, a boy.

223. (laughing) Oh, oh! So-so-so this woman gets up

224. real close to the guy in the sailor suit,

225. and she says, "And so what kind of doctor are you?"

226. Guy says "Me? I'm a naval doctor."

227. And she says, "Boy, when you specialize,

228. "you really specialize."

229. Ohh, so it's that kind of a crowd, huh?

230. You really go for the sophisticated stuff, huh?

231. You've never had any children, have you?

232. Being single, it never seemed a wise move.

233. It's too bad. It's a great feeling.

234. Then why do you sound like a hit-and-run victim?

235. Me?

236. (sigh) I couldn't be happier.

237. Oh, come on, Henry. There's no disgrace

238. in admitting you're depressed

239. because you can't be with your new baby.

240. - Yeah? - Yeah.

241. Inasmuch as no umbilical cord reaches 20,000 miles.

242. Here's to your new son, Henry.

243. Yeah. Yeah.

244. But let's hope I meet him before he gets drafted

245. and sent over here.

246. Let's hear it for the girls! What do you say?

247. How about this band?

248. They're going to do a little number

249. for you right now, but first I gotta tell you

250. - about Charlie the drummer. - (rim shot)

251. Charlie served in World War II.

252. You remember World War II. It was in all the papers.

253. What'd he— What'd he say?

254. Uh...

255. I didn't really hear.

256. One day, Charlie finds himself in a field hospital

257. with a sheet over his head.

258. He pulls the sheet down and sees himself

259. being wheeled away on a stretcher.

260. He turns to the the orderly and says, "Where we goin'?"

261. The orderly says, "To be buried."

262. He says, "But I'm not dead."

263. The orderly says, "Wanna make a fool outta the doctor?"

264. It doesn't look good, Trapper.

265. Hey, you did your best.

266. Too bad it was so lousy.

267. Hey, what's goin' on?

268. There's a rumor you three eloped.

269. I started out to be an architect.

270. Couldn't handle the math.

271. Why don't you get some rest?

272. Over here, Father. We need some cross action.

273. The blood pressure is still low,

274. but it's better.

275. Hang another unit of blood.

276. What was that about not being sure you did any good?

277. It's not supposed to work that way, you know?

278. All right, now go hit the sack

279. or I'll report you to the doctors and the architects.

280. I'll take care of him. Come on.

281. You know something? Those two could wind up—

282. Uh, yes?

283. Rolling Easter eggs.

284. Captain Kaplan? Pile in, sir.

285. Move over.

286. You think I'm putting my life in your hands?

287. What are you, 19?

288. Uh, 18, sir.

289. My feet have corns older than you are.

290. What is that? A disinfectant?

291. Who knows where this kid's hands have been?

292. Goodbye, Doctor.

293. Please, Nurse, no offense.

294. I'm a dentist. I know.

295. The mouth is a playground for germs.

296. If the tongue weren't attached,

297. it would jump out in a minute.

298. Is-Is it possible to bless a jeep, Father?

299. Consider it done.

300. Hey, look, sir, we better get going.

301. You have a plane to catch.

302. Don't remind me. Even as we're talking,

303. the propeller's getting older.

304. Well, goodbye, everybody.

305. - Lucky man. - Certainly is.

306. I knew it! Did I know it?

307. Did I know— did I say it?

308. I said it from the very beginning.

309. - Jinxed. - Look,

310. anybody can step on the gas instead of the brake.

311. - How's the driver? - The kid's okay.

312. Figures! I'm going home, I'm in pieces!

313. He's staying here, he didn't bust a pimple.

314. You know how I'm getting home when the time comes?

315. I'm walking!

316. You're not leaving me alone!

317. Would you like a surprise, sir?

318. Yes, I would. I'd like to be stolen by gypsies

319. and taken to their camp in Bloomington, Illinois.

320. Close your eyes.

321. Radar, this is not a good day for playing games.

322. Please?

323. Yeah.

324. Okay, now, no peeking now.

325. Yeah.

326. Well?

327. Just a minute.

328. Oh, boy.

329. - I'm coming. - Mm-hmm.

330. Can I open my eyes yet?

331. Not yet.

332. Hold out your hands.

333. Okay, open 'em.

334. Oh. Oh, don't cry.

335. Radar, where did this baby come from?

336. You're not in any kind of, uh, trouble, are you, kid?

337. Oh, no, no, sir.

338. Uh, his mother works in the camp laundry.

339. I just thought,

340. since you couldn't get to see your own son...

341. He's, uh, he's a beautiful boy.

342. Can she speak English, Radar?

343. Uh, no, sir.

344. But it's nice you could smile in Korean.

345. Aww.

346. Well, I guess we'd better get back to work.

347. Yes, sir.

348. Sir?

349. In a minute.

350. Just wait a second.

351. It's been both a ball, an honor, and a privilege

352. meeting with you like this,

353. but I can see it's time to go

354. because they're winding up

355. the rubber band on the old airplane.

356. So on behalf of the Miller Sisters,

357. let's hear it!

358. Charlie Keller and his Clan of Lunatics.

359. And me, yes sirree,

360. in person, Jackie Flash,

361. saying that we'll be back

362. to see you again real soon—

363. Same time, same place, same war.

364. So long now, and God bless ya.

365. Yes, sir, let's hear it out there.
