1. So apparently, there's a risk

2. of extra blood loss with a cesarean section

3. but Dr. Howard is pretty sure I can deliver vaginally.

4. He says I have a nice, thick placenta.

5. What's a placenta?

6. Don't tell him. God!

7. Why are you boys being so squeamish?

8. Come on, Mom. It's gross!

9. What are you talking about?

10. You should be grateful.

11. When you were in my womb,

12. you were feeding off my placenta for nine months.

13. Okay, that's it.

14. I told you we only needed a medium.

15. Lois, you're not being fair. Every year you tell me

16. what you want for Valentine's Day— every year.

17. Now, this year you want me to buy you a present

18. without so much as a clue?

19. Can we discuss this later?

20. When? After I've brought home

21. a gift you hate

22. that makes me look like a jackass

23. and you never forgive me?

24. Here, mint or original?

25. I don't remember the morning sickness

26. lasting this long.

27. Well, you are a lot older.

28. Honey, you know, like we all are.

29. That's what happens— everyone gets older

30. and older until they die...

31. and can we get back to your gift?

32. Hal, you're going to have at least four hours at the mall

33. while I'm shopping with the boys.

34. You'll find something.

35. This isn't fair.

36. You want to trade?

37. You want to take

38. three teenage boys to the basement sale

39. at Hanning's and force them to try on

40. a year's worth of school clothes?

41. No, I'm good.

42. Oh, God. My feet are so swollen,

43. I'm going to need clown shoes.

44. I can't believe I'm going through this again.

45. So, a boy or a girl?

46. What?

47. Oh, come on— just between us,

48. would you rather have a boy or a girl?

49. Hal... Oh, I know, I know.

50. "As long as it's healthy." We both know the drill.

51. But deep down,

52. you must want one more than the other.

53. Well...

54. Give it back!

55. REESE: You stupid runt!

56. I'll get the vacuum.

57. You broke my Space Fighter!

58. Give it! You give it!

59. What is going on here?

60. He stole my pen! My favorite pen!

61. Look at him holding it!

62. Why is it he always gets the pen?

63. I never get the pen!

64. All I want is the pen!

65. What is wrong with you boys?

66. You have a whole drawer full of pens right here.

67. Why does he have to have everything I want?

68. I never have what I need!

69. I don't even have my own bed!

70. Why does everything in my life suck?

71. You owe me a new Space Fighter!

72. Shut up and get your own pen!

73. Give it to me! Give it to me!

74. Give it to me!

75. Renee, please don't touch it.

76. Mallory, you're being silly. It's just a pen.

77. I was going to do homework with it.

78. Unless there's a reason

79. this pen's important to you.

80. It's stupid.

81. No, it isn't, Mallory. You can tell her.

82. Daisy's right. You can tell me.

83. How come you never say what's on your mind?

84. Yeah, you're always so quiet.

85. Well...

86. this boy dropped it in biology class.

87. He chewed on it a little.

88. Oh, I am so sorry.

89. I should have known that.

90. I hate being dumb.

91. If I didn't grow such great hair,

92. my head would be useless.

93. You don't have to be a genius.

94. You're sweet and thoughtful...

95. and that's what counts.

96. Wow.

97. That was the worst fight we've had in months.

98. Why don't you just die?

99. Give me my pen! I'm warning you...

100. Ooh, I'm scared. What are you gonna do?

101. What's the baby gonna do?

102. Malcolm!

103. Malcolm, you can take Reese?

104. No one's "taking" anybody.

105. I can't believe you boys.

106. Oh, my God, look at you!

107. He better not need stitches.

108. Yeah, like you weren't begging for it.

109. Come on!

110. We've got a lot of shopping to do!

111. Hello?

112. Mom! Great. Listen, I need a favor.

113. I need you to go in the garage.

114. Under the paint tarps, next to the rat poison

115. is my old box of Madmagazines,

116. and the one I need you to find is in the middle stack.

117. Francis, what are you talking about?

118. I got a $20 bet on whether the cover is

119. Stagnum P.I. or Magnum P.U.

120. Francis, I don't have time for this.

121. Of course you don't!

122. Because every time something important to me comes...

123. Will you hurry up?

124. We're going to have to park, like, a mile away?

125. Why do we have to go shopping, anyway?

126. Because you ruin everything you own.

127. New clothes don't just magically appear in your drawers.

128. Mine do.

129. Hal, hurry up!

130. Why can't you go shopping without us?

131. I'm a medium, I like blue. Go crazy.

132. Seriously, Mom, think about it—

133. you're dragging us to a place

134. that we don't like,

135. to buy clothes we don't care about,

136. for money you don't want to spend,

137. to look nice for people who hate our guts.

138. and if we go to the shoe store

139. before we look for jeans,

140. we can get yogurt in between.

141. Will you help me pick out earrings?

142. No, she's going to help mepick out tops.

143. You know what we should do?

144. You two take the first floor,

145. and we'll take the second floor,

146. and we'll meet every 45 minutes

147. at the pretzel place and see what else

148. we need to get, and then...

149. Girls, girls, calm down.

150. We do this, like, five times a week.

151. You think you'd be bored by now.

152. I know why Mallory wants to meet at the pretzel place.

153. That's where Jason McNeil works.

154. Daisy!

155. That'swho you have a crush on? Jason?

156. Maybe.

157. Mallory, he has a mustache.

158. You don't want anything to do

159. with a boy like that.

160. You're always so protective of me.

161. Come on, Daddy, hurry.

162. Dad, come on, the mall is calling!

163. Damn it. That's enough!

164. Now, we are going shopping, and that is it!

165. I don't even need new clothes!

166. I don't even want to go the mall!

167. Do you want big, do you want small?

168. Do you want for you?

169. Do you want for the house?

170. Do you want sincere...?

171. Hal, you know what I like.

172. Yes, because you've always told me!

173. For the past five Valentine's Days,

174. you've asked for a lawn mower,

175. bath salts, earrings,

176. a Hibachi,

177. a porcelain cat.

178. Th-there's no pattern, Lois.

179. It is madness!

180. I'm telling you, it's madness!

181. Okay, I'm going to let you do this to yourself.

182. My feet are killing me.

183. We're going to hit the food court before the sale.

184. Fine! Be that way!

185. Don't come crying to me

186. when you end up with a pair of puppy oven mitts!

187. Do you like puppy oven mitts?

188. One salad with light dressing

189. and three grande chili stampedes—

190. one with extra onions,

191. one with extra beans and extra onions,

192. and one with extra beans and extra, extra onions.

193. You've shot down my star-pod

194. for the last time, Zoltan.

195. What you gonna do?

196. What's the baby gonna do, huh?

197. Aah! My lip!

198. Boo-hoo-hoo-hoo!

199. It hurts!

200. I don't want a hat, Hal.

201. Damn.

202. Okay, if one of you boys wants to get napkins,

203. we can start...

204. Boy, keep the windows open tonight,

205. 'cause I'm gonna rip

206. the biggest...

207. hole in my sweater.

208. Look at this.

209. I think I snagged it on something.

210. I hate when I ruin my things.

211. Remember when I was two,

212. and I got cake on my jumper?

213. Don't worry. I snagged a blouse once.

214. That's when Mom taught me how to sew.

215. Why isn't Daddy back from the pharmacy yet?

216. I'll bet he's sneaking a cigarette.

217. You girls let him be.

218. Sometimes he just needs a break.

219. It's not easy being the only boy in the family.

220. Oh, look.

221. Hi, honey, we're over here.

222. Hi, Daddy.

223. Hi, Daddy. Hi Daddy.

224. Hi, girls. Sorry it took so long.

225. No one's upset with me, are they?

226. Bought everyone some cookies.

227. Oh... they're gone.

228. Daddy, you know how you like

229. to make me happy?

230. Yes?

231. Well, there is the cutest

232. little makeup kit at the Clinique counter.

233. Oh, honey, no.

234. Now, absolutely not.

235. I don't even like

236. you wearing makeup,

237. and that stuff is so overpriced.

238. And what's such a hurry... ?

239. Hal, it's all right.

240. Mallory, stop manipulating your father.

241. You know there's no sport in it.

242. She wants to look pretty for Jason.

243. Who's Jason?

244. Daddy, keep your voice down.

245. He's right over there.

246. God, I can't believe you.

247. I don't know what you see in that guy.

248. Daddy, don't you think

249. Mallory should be with someone else?

250. No. Well, that's easy for you to say.

251. You have, like, 50 guys after you.

252. 50?

253. All right, girls, that's enough.

254. Now, Renee, I know you love your sister,

255. but you can't live her life for her.

256. And Mallory,

257. I know you want to look older and more sophisticated,

258. but trust me...

259. that three-dollar lip gloss is working just fine.

260. You're right, Mom.

261. You're alwaysright.

262. Hey, I was gonna eat that!

263. Tough luck, runt!

264. What the hell's wrong with you?

265. Get your hands off me!

266. No.

267. Damn.

268. Can I help you?

269. Don't do it.

270. Thank you.

271. All right, we're going in.

272. You see anything in your size,

273. grab it and hold onto it

274. no matter what anyone tries to do to you.

275. Protect your heads. Don't trust anyone.

276. What are you trying to do, scare us?

277. Yes. Fear is good.

278. It's an 80%-off sale.

279. Fear will keep you alive.

280. Don't worry. We're with Malcolm.

281. Ooh.

282. Oh...

283. Oh, the foot spa.

284. Those are good, right?

285. Oh, yeah, they're amazing.

286. I already have two.

287. This one's for my downstairs bathroom.

288. Well, enjoy.

289. I would like the deluxe foot spa with remote control,

290. and I'd like it gift-wrapped, please.

291. I'm sorry. That was our last one.

292. No!

293. What about the one in the window?

294. It's a display model. It's just to show.

295. But you have to...

296. I need the... the perfect...

297. My wife...

298. Sir! Sir!

299. Excuse me. Hi.

300. I'm Hal, remember?

301. Your friend from just now in the store.

302. Yeah, hi. Hi.

303. I was trying to get one of those foot spas for my wife.

304. Oh, really?

305. Yeah, my pregnant wife.

306. For Valentine's Day, you know.

307. And apparently, you bought the last one.

308. So, I was wondering,

309. since you already have two,

310. uh, if you wouldn't mind selling me that one.

311. No, I don't think so. Sorry.

312. Look, you don't understand.

313. I have been searching and searching.

314. I'll give you double what you paid for.

315. No! I'll give you triple.

316. Look, I'm sorry, but no.

317. This is mine. I bought it.

318. I'm sure if you just keep looking around,

319. you'll find something else.

320. Oh, okay, okay.

321. Um, ah, how about this?

322. Ooh... oh!

323. I can see through that old lady's bra.

324. We've got to get out of here before we're scarred for life.

325. Come on.

326. Hey, Mom, we've...

327. You did not already try on those clothes.

328. And you do not

329. have a term paper due, and you are not

330. going to suddenly develop stomach cramps.

331. How did you...?

332. Please, who do you think

333. you're talking to?

334. Now, go, try on those clothes.

335. Reese.

336. Takes these and go with your brother.

337. Mom, what are you doing?

338. Why are you giving me a pink shirt?

339. I don't wear pink. I've never worn pink.

340. That shirt is red.

341. If you have something to say, just come out and say it.

342. For the love of God, I'll find you another one.

343. Excuse me.

344. Wow, what happened to your face?

345. I slept on it wrong. What do you mean?

346. Well, I'm sleeping like this, and then my knee

347. went up into my elbow, and my elbow hit my hand

348. and it went into my mouth, and no one hit me, okay?

349. I don't want to hear any more of your whining.

350. You try this on right now, understood?

351. Why are you standing here?

352. You're wasting time.

353. I'm not changing out here in front of everybody.

354. You know what? I don't even need new clothes.

355. I'll just live off the lost and found at school.

356. It's all better than this crap anyway.

357. Mom, Mom, there you are.

358. Look, it's a $200 dress they marked down to $30.

359. Oh, my God. This is like a dream.

360. Mom, you will not believe this.

361. I had Daisy dig through the cabinets

362. under the sales table, and we found all this stuff

363. they were saving to put out for tomorrow.

364. We've got all the clothes we need for the whole year.

365. Good work, girls.

366. Uh-oh, look who's here.

367. You know, I wouldn't be insulted if you wanted

368. to go for an ice cream with him.

369. Maybe later.

370. This is our special day, Mom.

371. Yeah, and we haven't even gotten to the best part yet.

372. When we help find things for you.

373. I can't really describe him.

374. He was just an average-looking guy,

375. but he had kind of crazy eyes.

376. Is that helpful?

377. Sir, I'm so sorry.

378. I don't know what came over me earlier.

379. I'm really not that kind of person.

380. I-I just think it was all the pressure of Valentine's Day,

381. and I was so upset and irrational.

382. But the bottom line is that I made a mistake and...

383. grabbed the wrong bag.

384. Oh, God...

385. Look at him. Yeah.

386. I assume you'll want the same deal I had with him.

387. What are you talking about?

388. Reese is as good

389. as dead, at least on the inside.

390. That puts you in charge.

391. You get half my candy, full control of the remote,

392. and since I can't do yourhomework for you,

393. how about a nice warm towel

394. whenever you come out of the shower?

395. Will you shut up? He's going to be fine.

396. Whatever you say... sir.

397. Come on.

398. Hey.

399. I'm sorry, I was here first.

400. No, you weren't. We're next.

401. I'll only take a minute.

402. I've only got two things to try on.

403. Lady, we've been waiting in line for a half hour.

404. We have to meet our mom.

405. I'm sorry, but we're next.

406. Back off, brat!

407. This may be your first sale,

408. but it isn't mine!

409. Let him go.

410. It's our turn.

411. Looks like you need someone

412. to teach you to mind your elders.

413. You looking for a dance partner?

414. You think you can do whatever you want, don't you?

415. That people aren't going to say

416. or do anything because you're... "frail."

417. Deal's off.

418. All right, Reese is back.

419. You want to take your teeth out before we start this, Grandma?

420. Oh, no, Reese is back.

421. Hi, I'm Karen Tracy.

422. I was speaking to one of your boys earlier.

423. Oh, my God, I'll kill him.

424. See, these kind of outbursts

425. are exactly the sort of thing we can help you with.

426. I'm with the Department of Child Services.

427. What? What are you talking about?

428. Look, we're not making any judgments yet,

429. but the department takes

430. the safety of children very seriously.

431. I'd like you to come in for an evaluation.

432. What's the last known

433. address of the boy's father?

434. Wait a minute. This is a mistake.

435. My boys are fine.

436. It wasn't me— somebody planted those teeth on me.

437. These your kids?

438. I was just trying to buy a slip

439. and they all jumped on me like jackals.

440. She's lying.

441. We were just trying to pull Reese off of her.

442. Oh, Lois, thank God I found you.

443. Look, we got to get out of here before...

444. Run!

445. Mom, seriously, get the lead out.

446. You must be so happy.

447. You wouldn't believe some of the families

448. I have to deal with.

449. Oh, girls.

450. Hurry up.

451. It's our turn at the register.

452. I can't decide between the peach, the melon, or the salmon.

453. I just have to get all three.

454. No, honey, now you're going to make a choice.

455. Gee, Mom, if you're going to force me

456. to wear knock-offs, can I at least

457. just get what I want?

458. Here you go, sweetie.

459. Here's the makeup you wanted.

460. Oh, thank you so much, Daddy.

461. Hal, what are you doing?

462. We said she couldn't have that.

463. Well, she asked me again

464. and told me that you said it would be okay after all,

465. and then, you know, she started...

466. getting all teary-eyed.

467. You know, I... I-I just... I...

468. Mallory, how could you do that?

469. Don't worry, Mom. I won't wear it around the house.

470. I know how desperate you are to be the prettiest.

471. Mallory, I think we're all getting a little bit frazzled.

472. Why don't we talk about this when

473. we're modeling our clothes for each other at home.

474. Yeah, that's really good, Mom,

475. because by that time the buzz from her diet pills

476. will have worn off.

477. Diet pills?

478. I have a slow metabolism, okay?

479. And I don't burn up calories having sex with a different boy

480. every night down by the creek.

481. I thought you were at band practice every night.

482. There is no band.

483. Shut up,

484. flatsy patsy, you don't know anything.

485. I know you're pregnant.

486. She is lying. That is ridiculous.

487. I am not pregnant, because I know

488. that sex is wrong and immoral and fun.

489. No, wait...

490. It's all right, Renee.

491. It's good that they know.

492. I'm ready for teenage marriage.

493. It'll be awesome.

494. He's the father?

495. You only slept with him

496. because you knew that I liked him!

497. Maybe you should have asked to use my hair brush first.

498. Girls, please, can you just...?

499. Girls, don't do this.

500. You're supposed to be easy.

501. No, Mom, you're easy.

502. We can fool you about anything.

503. We're girls. We know how you think.

504. And we're not above using it.

505. Mom, Dad, hi.

506. Francis, what are you doing here?

507. You're supposed to be away at college.

508. I dropped out, but don't worry, I'm working.

509. At the new Hooters out by the lumberyard.

510. With tips I can

511. pay rent on the trailer

512. and still keep my husband in beer.

513. Hey, got to go.

514. Cockfight starts in half an hour.

515. You still got to load the cages into my pickup.

516. Uh, you know, you could talk to my daughter...

517. Leave him alone.

518. You never like

519. any of my husbands.

520. You've always tried to come between us,

521. and that's why I hate you!

522. Ever since you lost all that weight,

523. nothing is ever good enough for you.

524. This isn't right.

525. Girls don't do these things.
