1. How was dinner, mijo—

2. - Mom, what are you— what are you— Get out! Get out!

3. Ah, shit, shit, shit, shit...

4. - Victor, it's okay.

5. - Benji, just put your clothes on.

6. Mom. Mom— - What were you thinking?

7. Your little brother is asleep in the next room.

8. - I wasn't thinking, okay?

9. It just— I am trying so hard

10. to wrap my head around all of this,

11. and you go and— - I'm sorry!

12. It's just— - It's just what?

13. What excuse

14. could you possibly have for doing that in my house?

15. - What do you mean by "that?"

16. - Benji, please.

17. - I mean having sex with Adrian in the next room.

18. - Oh, sex, or gay sex? - Stop!

19. - Look, that was awkward for all of us.

20. But we're in a serious relationship.

21. She wouldn't be acting like this

22. if she'd caught you having sex with a girl.

23. - Why is everyone yelling?

24. It's nothing, mijo.

25. Victor just knows that he's not allowed to have friends over without us.

26. - He's not my friend. He's my boyfriend. - Benji!

27. - Benji's your boyfriend?

28. - You need to go.

29. - Just go.

30. - Okay, mijo. Let's get you back to bed. We'll talk in the morning, yeah?

31. Hey, Isa.

32. Thanks for coming over.

33. I don't have any master plan.

34. I just figured we could wing it. - That's fine.

35. I mean—

36. - Is this an ambush?

37. Because I already said I'm sorry. It won't happen again.

38. - It's not an ambush, mijo. I'm here to talk to Adrian.

39. Your mom and I thought I should be here for the follow-up conversation

40. about you being gay.

41. - Oh. Okay.

42. - Papi's here?

43. - Hey. Yeah. Um... Hey!

44. - Well, we all wanted to talk to you about last night.

45. - Yeah. Do you know what it means to be... gay?

46. - Yeah, of course. Like Elliot Felter's two moms.

47. - Yes! Exactly.

48. - And Spongebob. Spongebob is gay.

49. - No. He's a sponge. - Oh, Mom.

50. - Uh, well, do you have any questions?

51. - Yeah. Why was Mia your girlfriend if you're gay?

52. - Uh... good question.

53. I was still figuring some stuff out.

54. - Sometimes people don't know what they like until they try it.

55. Um, like when you thought blueberry pancakes were the best

56. until you tried your mom's French toast.

57. - Cool. Glad you found your French toast.

58. - Thanks, papa. Me, too.

59. - Where am I?

60. Uh... Is it morning?

61. - Yeah. I think we passed out

62. somewhere between the second bag of Doritos

63. and third hour of Family Feud.

64. - Oh. That explains the Steve Harvey nightmare.

65. He refused to crown me Miss Universe.

66. - You okay?

67. - Yeah. Yeah, no, it's, um,

68. um, my mom wants me to visit her

69. at the hospital after school today.

70. - That's good news, right? - Yeah.

71. Yeah, no, I— I guess. It's just, um,

72. I don't know what I'm walking into.

73. - A few days ago your mom didn't want to see anyone,

74. and now she's asking you to visit.

75. I think that's a good sign.

76. - Hey, you know, um...

77. between my mom and the breakup, this week has been hell.

78. But last night was like,

79. more fun than I had in like...

80. forever.

81. - Yeah. Me, too.

82. - Cool. Um, well,

83. thanks for the hang, senator.

84. Mia! Breakfast!

85. Ah! There she is.

86. Good morning, my love.

87. I made us breakfast burritos.

88. Ah, ah, ah! - Uh-oh.

89. Did I just walk into a breakfast burrito conversation?

90. - A what?

91. - Whenever you have bad news,

92. you always make my favorite breakfast to soften the blow.

93. Well, it used to be my favorite.

94. Now I associate breakfast burritos with surprise and trauma.

95. - All right, actually, I do have something I want to talk to you about.

96. - Mmm, let's see.

97. All right, so you're already getting married next week.

98. And you're having a baby. What is it now?

99. Long lost brother? Tax fraud? Secret second family?

100. - Okay, look. The president of Stanford is retiring,

101. and he offered me the job.

102. - Stanford, Stanford.

103. Like, like all the way across the country Stanford?

104. - Yeah. That one.

105. But listen, the job doesn't start until next year,

106. so don't worry. You'll be able to finish out your semester.

107. Now, if I take this,

108. I really want to know how you feel. Okay?

109. Because you know me. I'm Mr. Neutral.

110. - I think you should take the job.

111. - Really? I thought you'd need more time to process.

112. - What's there to process? I mean, yes, moving sucks,

113. but you've worked your entire career for a shot like this.

114. - Okay. Um, wow.

115. - California, here we come.

116. Thanks. - Mmm.

117. - Hey.

118. - Hey.

119. - Uh, my parents spoke to Adrian this morning.

120. It went pretty well.

121. He said that you were my French toast.

122. - Great. Did your mom apologize?

123. - Apologize?

124. Benji, she walked in on us having sex,

125. and then you basically called her homophobic,

126. and then outed us to my little brother.

127. I want to say I'm kind of waiting for you to apologize.

128. - Seriously?

129. - She was getting ready to tell him.

130. I told you, she's been doing better— - Bullshit.

131. I saw her face when she walked in on us. She looked disgusted.

132. And you didn't even stand up for yourself.

133. - Because walking in on your kid having sex is disgusting!

134. You have no idea where she's coming from.

135. And I'm sorry that we can't all have totally supportive,

136. liberal, white parents like you do.

137. - What? What does being white have to do with anything?

138. - You have no idea what it's like to come from my family,

139. and you never will.

140. Okay? So the last thing I need is your meaningless opinion

141. on how to deal with my shit.

142. - Screw this.

143. - Benji, where are you going?

144. - I don't know.

145. Here we have a female North American teenager,

146. peeping on her crush.

147. Watch as she gently swoons in the recirculated school air.

148. - Shut up! Ugh, he's so frustrating.

149. We fell asleep watching TV,

150. and this morning he said it was the most fun he's had in forever.

151. - Adorable! - And then he punched me in the arm and called me "senator."

152. - Less adorable.

153. - I can't tell if he "likes" likes me,

154. or if he thinks of me as his moody little sister.

155. - Okay, Pi. I need to tell you a hard truth.

156. - Okay. - You're hot!

157. - What? Shut up. - Okay, I know it doesn't go with your low-key

158. serial killer vibes, but it's a fact.

159. Okay? And he's giving you all the straight boy signs.

160. He even responds to your texts in less than thirty seconds.

161. Okay, so... he wants you.

162. Grab your phone, text him, make a plan.

163. [tapping on screen, phone bloops] I don't know...

164. It's just always been kind of a dream of mine. I—

165. See? What did I just tell you?

166. - Hey, dude, I'm freaking out, man.

167. I mean, I've never had a breakup before.

168. Do I sit with you guys and Lake,

169. or do I find a new lunch table?

170. I mean, my pulse? Skyrocketing! - Okay, deep breaths.

171. Just because you're not together anymore doesn't mean you can't eat with us.

172. All right? Come on.

173. Hey.

174. - Hey, babe—

175. Uh, hi... you. I—

176. Hello, Lake.

177. - Hey. How's it going?

178. - A little hypertensive, but thank you for asking.

179. Good morning. Mwah!

180. I know it's lunch,

181. but I didn't get my morning kisses.

182. - Oh, I'm sorry. Oh...

183. - Ew! You used to be so cool.

184. What happened?

185. - Hey, is everything okay?

186. - Um, sort of.

187. Uh, I was going to tell you before everyone,

188. but I might as well just rip the band-aid off.

189. It looks like I might be moving.

190. - What? - Wait, wait. Where?

191. Sorry. Force of habit.

192. - My dad got a job offer from Stanford.

193. So if he takes it, then I'll be moving to California over winter break.

194. - California...

195. - So, wait, he just straight up told you you're moving across the country?

196. - No, he pretended to have a conversation, but I know the truth.

197. I mean, my whole life, my dad has put his career first.

198. There are hardly any Black university presidents,

199. and so he's constantly just trying to prove himself.

200. And if that means missing vacations, or family dinners,

201. or leaving for weeks on end to visit alumni, then he does it.

202. And... and I understand why he has to.

203. I'm proud of him.

204. - Yes. Your father is a very impressive human.

205. But that doesn't mean he gets to blow your life up like this.

206. - Hey, Andrew, I could try and fight it, but at the end of the day,

207. he's going to choose his job over me.

208. I learned that a long time ago.

209. - Hey, Benji, um,

210. did you turn off your phone?

211. Mia, uh, she told us all that she's moving to California,

212. and I just really wanted to talk to you,

213. so if you could call me back, that'd be great. Bye.

214. Oh! Rahim...

215. Uh, were you standing there the whole time?

216. - Yeah. Um, you, you didn't see me.

217. Then you started leaving a really emotional voicemail,

218. so I didn't really know what to do.

219. - I didn't know anyone actually used this room.

220. - Well, I do. For yearbook.

221. I actually have really great shot of you on this roll.

222. I'll make you a print. - Okay.

223. - That message you were leaving sounded pretty intense.

224. - Uh...

225. Benji and I got into a fight.

226. A bad one. - Oh, shit. I'm sorry.

227. - It's okay. It's just, uh...

228. he skipped school and he turned off his phone,

229. and I'm trying not to freak out,

230. but I'm kind of worried about him.

231. - Worried? Why?

232. - I, I can't really talk about it.

233. - You sure? Nothing ever leaves this dark room, I promise.

234. - Okay. Please don't tell anyone,

235. but Benji's had some problems in the past with drinking.

236. He's sober now, but I don't know.

237. He just seemed so upset today, and...

238. - What was the fight about?

239. - Uh, he's really mad that I haven't been standing up to my mom more.

240. I've explained to him that my mom is trying her best,

241. you know, with me being gay, and he's just...

242. - White? Sorry.

243. I did not mean to be presumptuous.

244. Um, it's just most of my friends are white,

245. so they don't get it at all.

246. How can you love your parents

247. when you hate a lot of what they believe in?

248. But you do, because...

249. you know how much they sacrificed to build a life for you.

250. - Yeah. You're right.

251. I mean, my dad's worked basically every single Saturday

252. of my entire life to make sure that we have what we need.

253. - Yeah. My parents left everything they knew in Iran

254. so that I could have better opportunities.

255. I'm not saying that gives them a free pass to be homophobic.

256. But, my, my parents were set up by their parents.

257. And they only met twice before their wedding.

258. In their eyes, marriage is between a man and a woman

259. who come from a good Iranian, Muslim family.

260. So, I know it's gonna be hard for them,

261. when I do come out, but...

262. I'm willing to stick it out.

263. I have to.

264. They're my parents.

265. - That's exactly it.

266. - Anyway, uh,

267. I'm sure Benji's gonna be okay.

268. And I know you two are gonna work it out,

269. because you're kind of annoyingly perfect for each other.

270. Case in point...

271. - Wow, this is amazing.

272. - Don't act so surprised.

273. - How was CCD? - It was fine.

274. - Fine? Usually you're talking my ear off about church gossip.

275. - Is Victor going to Hell?

276. - What? Who told you that?

277. - Father Lawrence.

278. I told him about Victor's boyfriend, and he said it was a sin.

279. - Adrian, look at me, okay?

280. Victor's not going to Hell.

281. Your brother is one of the most

282. generous and loving people I know.

283. - But Father Lawrence— - Father Lawrence...

284. is wrong.

285. - But he said it's in the Bible.

286. - Well, the... the Bible

287. can be interpreted in many different ways.

288. But in this family,

289. we believe that Jesus knows who has love in their hearts.

290. And he would never punish people for that.

291. Okay? - Okay.

292. - Come on.

293. - Where are we going? - I forgot something inside.

294. - It takes eight hundred and thirty hours to fly from Atlanta to San Francisco?

295. Oh, wait. I'm on walking. It's only five hours by plane.

296. - It's still very bad.

297. - Okay, guys, enough talking about me moving.

298. I'm gonna go make us some mac and cheese.

299. All right, and we're gonna eat it in silence.

300. - We can't let this happen, Andrew.

301. - I don't really think it's up to us.

302. - Or is it?

303. Oh, hey, thanks for, uh, coming over so last minute.

304. - Of course. Of course. - I appreciate it.

305. - Yeah, man.

306. - Victor. What are you doing here?

307. - Uh, I was making sure you're okay

308. 'cause you never showed up at school today.

309. - Right. Got it. Um...

310. Well, Hank was just leaving.

311. Uh, Hank, this is my boyfriend, Victor.

312. Hank's my, uh... my sponsor.

313. - It's nice to finally meet you, Victor. - It's, uh, it's nice to meet you, too.

314. - See you later? - Yeah.

315. - I didn't know you had a sponsor.

316. - Well, I do.

317. You want to come in? - Yeah.

318. - Oh, my God. No password?

319. Old people are so bad at cyber security.

320. - Whatcha doin' here, Lake?

321. - I am going to post an offensive tweet to Harold's account.

322. Something just bad enough to get him lightly canceled.

323. Now, does Harold strike you as more of a flat-Earther,

324. or Holocaust-denier? - Uh, Lake,

325. I have always found your crazy kind of endearing.

326. Right now, I'm just finding it a bit unnerving.

327. - I can't lose Mia, Andrew.

328. It was bad enough that seeing Felix in the lunch room today

329. almost gave me a panic attack.

330. A week ago we were happy and in love,

331. and now I don't even know how to say hi to him.

332. I can't lose the other most important person in my life too.

333. - I hear you.

334. Okay? I really do.

335. - No, just— give that back! - No.

336. - Andrew... - I'm sorry. You're in a very dark place right now.

337. - What the hell is wrong with you?

338. Do you even care that she's leaving?

339. - Of course I do.

340. Okay, look, the girl I love is getting ripped away from me.

341. There is nothing I can do about it, and it is killing me.

342. - You love her?

343. - You love me?

344. - Of course I do.

345. - I love you, too.

346. - So why don't you fight for us?

347. Hi. - Hey.

348. - I got you a coffee. - Oh, thanks.

349. - How was seeing your mom?

350. - It was okay. Yeah, um,

351. they, uh, got her on new mood stabilizers.

352. So, that seems to be helping.

353. And she really likes her new therapist.

354. - That's great. Right?

355. - Yeah. Yeah, no, it's just, um...

356. It's so sterile.

357. White walls, white floor.

358. And everything she loves is off limits.

359. No Millionaire, no weird knick-knacks...

360. Swedish Fish... Why is Swedish Fish contraband?

361. It's like they're taking away everything that makes her who she is.

362. - Felix, it sounds like she's getting better.

363. And your mom is fierce.

364. It would take way more than an inhumane Swedish Fish ban to dull her sparkle.

365. She's getting discharged next week.
