10. Nice butt.Copy !req
11. - Ooh.
- Emilia!Copy !req
12. Come on, you're missing the whole game!Copy !req
13. She's the only one you can beat.Copy !req
14. Speaking of which, aren't you
forgetting something?Copy !req
15. Oh, come on, that doesn't count!Copy !req
16. Hey, it's part of my wardrobe!Copy !req
17. Thought you got lost in there.Copy !req
18. Deal the cards.Copy !req
19. Big pour for me.Copy !req

31. - Whoo.
- Oh.Copy !req
32. Now it's a party.Copy !req
33. Emilia! Emilia!Copy !req
34. Take it off!Copy !req
35. Take it off!Copy !req
36. - Emilia!
- Emilia, come back!Copy !req
37. 69th and Central Park West.Copy !req
38. You got it.Copy !req
39. Must have been a hell of a party.Copy !req
40. Not really.Copy !req
41. Do you mind if I put on some tunes?Copy !req
42. Whatever.Copy !req
43. Treated you bad, huh?Copy !req
44. You could say that.Copy !req
45. Shame.Copy !req
46. Pretty girl like you?Copy !req
47. Hey, I said 69th.Copy !req
48. What are you doing? Let me out!Copy !req
49. The truth is, I had my head
stuck out the windowCopy !req
50. to cop a smoke without Fred...
that's my husband... knowing.Copy !req
51. So you saw the cab pull out?Copy !req
52. That's right, and that
poor girl lying in the street.Copy !req
53. That's when I called 911.
I thought maybe she was dead.Copy !req
54. Luckily, you were wrong.Copy !req
55. - She was raped, right?
- What makes you say that?Copy !req
56. I saw the bra and panties
next to her head.Copy !req
57. Two plus two.Copy !req
58. Could you see the driver's face?Copy !req
59. I was up there. Fifth floor.Copy !req
60. How about the license plate number?Copy !req
61. I didn't think to look.Copy !req
62. Okay.Copy !req
63. If you think of anything else,
reach out.Copy !req
64. - I will. Thank you.
- Okay.Copy !req
65. He drove right by my house.Copy !req
66. - And what did you do then?
- I was polite.Copy !req
67. I thought he might have made
a mistake, misheard me,Copy !req
68. so I repeated
"Central Park West and 69th,Copy !req
69. Central Park West and 69th."Copy !req
70. Okay, did you see his name
on the taxi permit?Copy !req
71. Did you see his face?Copy !req
72. He was... he was black.Copy !req
73. - Okay.
- And then...Copy !req
74. And then the doors locked shut,Copy !req
75. and I freaked out he was gonna kill me.Copy !req
76. - Why did I...
- No, honey.Copy !req
77. This is not your fault.
None of this is your fault.Copy !req
78. I tried... I tried to scream
and scream,Copy !req
79. but then he...Copy !req
80. And then what, honey?Copy !req
81. He grabbed my hair and he... he hit me.Copy !req
82. Si.Copy !req
83. No more Italian!Copy !req
84. I hate Italy!Copy !req
85. Okay.Copy !req
86. Okay.Copy !req
87. Some bruising, genital trauma...Copy !req
88. - signs of sexual assault.
- Okay.Copy !req
89. Any chance she was drugged?Copy !req
90. No drugs in her system,
but her blood alcohol was.19.Copy !req
91. Lucky she can walk.Copy !req
92. Was there semen in her rape kit?Copy !req
93. Yeah, we sent it to the lab.
Hopefully we'll get a DNA hit.Copy !req
94. - Thank you, Dr. Mayer.
- This is her room.Copy !req
95. Excuse me?Copy !req
96. Hi, I'm Lieutenant Benson.Copy !req
97. This is Detective Rollins.Copy !req
98. Oh, Emilia said
you were very good to her.Copy !req
99. - Thank you.
- You must be her father.Copy !req
100. Oh, no, no.Copy !req
101. No, Emilia's
an exchange student from Italy.Copy !req
102. My wife Mary and I are her host family.Copy !req
103. Oh.Copy !req
104. Damn it, Lara.Copy !req
105. Uh, Lara's Emilia's sister.Copy !req
106. So how you doing today, Emilia?Copy !req
107. Okay.Copy !req
108. Yeah.Copy !req
109. Uh, I'd like to ask you some questions,Copy !req
110. to continue from last night.Copy !req
111. And I'd like to speak
with the rest of you outside.Copy !req
112. - Thank you.
- Yeah.Copy !req
113. So, Emilia, I was hopingCopy !req
114. that you might be able
to remember some more detailsCopy !req
115. about the man who attacked you.Copy !req
116. I'm sorry.Copy !req
117. That's okay.Copy !req
118. Can you tell us where you were
before you got into the cab?Copy !req
119. I was at my friend's house.
Tommy Burke.Copy !req
120. But he didn't do anything.Copy !req
121. Okay, because if I know
where the cab picked you upCopy !req
122. then that would help us find him.Copy !req
123. How about your clothes?Copy !req
124. You have any idea
what happened to them?Copy !req
125. I left them at Tommy's,Copy !req
126. but it's not what you were thinking.Copy !req
127. We were just playing
a kind of poker where you...Copy !req
128. Where if you lose,
you lose your clothes.Copy !req
129. Gotcha. I was a teenager once.Copy !req
130. I just... I couldn't...Copy !req
131. you know, so...Copy !req
132. I left.Copy !req
133. They must think I'm a baby, but...Copy !req
134. It's okay, honey. It's okay.Copy !req
135. I like your... I like your cross.Copy !req
136. It's so pretty.Copy !req
137. My mother gave it to me.Copy !req
138. I asked herCopy !req
139. - if she wanted to go home.
- What did she say?Copy !req
140. She wants to help you catch
the bastard who did this.Copy !req
141. Okay, and... and where is home?Copy !req
142. Ischia. It's an island off Naples.Copy !req
143. What's this have to do with anything?Copy !req
144. Lara stayed with us before Emilia.Copy !req
145. Yeah, I go to Hudson now.Copy !req
146. - Oh, good for you.
- Excuse me?Copy !req
147. How... how is any of this
going to help?Copy !req
148. Okay.Copy !req
149. Sorry, it's just,
she was our responsibility.Copy !req
150. - We were supposed to keep her safe.
- I understand.Copy !req
151. Do you think you'll catch him?Copy !req
152. We will do the best we can.Copy !req
153. Thank you.Copy !req
154. Ischia is one of the most
beautiful islands in the world.Copy !req
155. I had never heard of it
before this morning.Copy !req
156. My aunt from my, uh,
mom's side, she was born there.Copy !req
157. I mean, she hasn't been back
in 60 yearsCopy !req
158. but she cannot stop talking about it.Copy !req
159. Tell me about her cannolis.Copy !req
160. No, it's a marinara sauce.Copy !req
161. She gets the tomatoes
flown in from Naples.Copy !req
162. - It is unbelievable.
- Course she does.Copy !req
163. Just let me talk to these girls.Copy !req
164. I want to brush up on my Italian.Copy !req
165. You can brush up on your
English while you're at it.Copy !req
166. Both the girls went to
an American school over there.Copy !req
167. They sound like
they grew up in Westport.Copy !req
168. - You're kidding me.
- No. I'm telling you,Copy !req
169. I have more of an accent than they do.Copy !req
170. I got the address
where the kids played cards.Copy !req
171. - I'll take it.
- Thank you.Copy !req
172. They don't really have to knowCopy !req
173. about the strip poker, do they?Copy !req
174. Nobody's trying
to bust you here, Tommy.Copy !req
175. - Is this all Emilia's stuff?
- Uh, yeah.Copy !req
176. - She gonna be okay?
- That's a big TBD.Copy !req
177. Damn.Copy !req
178. I... I tried calling
and there was no answer.Copy !req
179. I just figured Richard
ripped her a new oneCopy !req
180. for coming home without clothes.Copy !req
181. You don't care for him?Copy !req
182. Mein fuehrer? What's not to like?Copy !req
183. And when Emilia ran off?Copy !req
184. We wouldn't have forced her
to do anything.Copy !req
185. It was just a game.
I had no idea she'd freak.Copy !req
186. Anybody go upstairs
and see if she was okay?Copy !req
187. We thought she wanted to be alone.Copy !req
188. All right, so I'm gonna
assume that none of you guysCopy !req
189. saw her get into a cab?Copy !req
190. Man, I wish I did.Copy !req
191. Me too, Tommy. Me too.Copy !req
192. All right, thanks.Copy !req
193. That's sweet.Copy !req
194. Well, I gotta keep you sharp.Copy !req
195. But look what I found without caffeine.Copy !req
196. Look, this is from
the Burkes' security cam.Copy !req
197. She's in a rush to get out of there.Copy !req
198. Oh, I've never caught a cab that fast.Copy !req
199. No, the cab company has no recordCopy !req
200. of any pick-ups or drop-offs
on that street at that time.Copy !req
201. There was no phone
in that bag Tommy gave us.Copy !req
202. Whoever's got that phone
could be the rapist.Copy !req
203. I was thinking the same,
so I had TARU run the GPS.Copy !req
204. And?Copy !req
205. We've got our bad guy.Copy !req
206. NYPD, open up!Copy !req
207. Go.Copy !req
208. What's... what's going on?Copy !req
209. I must have picked it up by mistake.Copy !req
210. - In the hospital room?
- That's right.Copy !req
211. So when the phone rang...Copy !req
212. Why are you talking to me
like I'm a criminal?Copy !req
213. Well, Lara, I saw you check
the caller ID.Copy !req
214. - So?
- So we know that Tommy BurkeCopy !req
215. called your sister Emilia this morning.Copy !req
216. - So?
- I bet if you check your call logCopy !req
217. we'll all see that he made that callCopy !req
218. while we were all in
that hospital room.Copy !req
219. What does that have to do with me?Copy !req
220. Unless you're friends with
a 15-year-old high school kidCopy !req
221. you knew that phone was your sister's.Copy !req
222. So you think that I had something to doCopy !req
223. with Emilia getting raped?Copy !req
224. What I'm wondering is why you'reCopy !req
225. being less than honest with us.Copy !req
226. - I'm not.
- So open it.Copy !req
227. We know you know the passcode.Copy !req
228. Okay.Copy !req
229. Will this help you catch the guy?Copy !req
230. It might.Copy !req
231. She has Fone Fare.Copy !req
232. It goes to Richard's credit cardCopy !req
233. so we could pay for cabs
even if we didn't have cash.Copy !req
234. Oscar Grove.Copy !req
235. Who's that?Copy !req
236. The man who raped your sister.Copy !req
237. We got the SOB.Copy !req
238. He lives on 121st Street
in East Harlem.Copy !req
239. His shift starts at 5:00.Copy !req
240. Uptown during rush hour.Copy !req
241. This should be fun.Copy !req
242. Hey, Oscar.Copy !req
243. - Nah.
- Come on, man, it's legal!Copy !req
244. - It's legal!
- Rape isn't.Copy !req
245. "Rape"? What are you talking about?
I ain't rape no girl.Copy !req
246. Oh, yeah? Well,
that girl's name was Emilia Barassi,Copy !req
247. and she was only 15.Copy !req
248. - I never heard of her.
- Oh, is that right?Copy !req
249. Then how come her Fone Fare app
says you picked her upCopy !req
250. at West 89th Street at 10:47 p.m.?Copy !req
251. 'Cause I pick up a lot of people.Copy !req
252. Half-dressed?Copy !req
253. - I don't remember.
- Oh.Copy !req
254. Well, fortunately for us
we got the rapist's DNA,Copy !req
255. and if it matches yours,
then you're done.Copy !req
256. Do a lot of time, Oscar.Copy !req
257. Black time.Copy !req
258. Okay, let's say, for instance,Copy !req
259. that I maybe had something
to do with it.Copy !req
260. Well, then maybe our DA
can shave off a couple years.Copy !req
261. - What do you think, Fin?
- I don't think so.Copy !req
262. Black time.
You're going under the jail.Copy !req
263. That girl was flashing
her "tig old biddies," man.Copy !req
264. What she expect?Copy !req
265. Is that a confession?Copy !req
266. 'Cause it sure sounds like one to me.Copy !req
267. Let's go tell it to the DA.Copy !req
268. Emilia, we got him.Copy !req
269. Will I have to testify in court?Copy !req
270. No, no, honey.Copy !req
271. He pled guilty.Copy !req
272. - So it's over.
- Legally, yes.Copy !req
273. Good, yeah.Copy !req
274. You know, emotionally
that can be a different story,Copy !req
275. so if it's okay with youCopy !req
276. I'd love to give you the name
of a... of a counselor.Copy !req
277. - A therapist.
- Yes, that would be great.Copy !req
278. Thank you. I'll take that, okay.Copy !req
279. We can't thank you enough, Lieutenant.Copy !req
280. Okay.Copy !req
281. - Come on.
- Take care.Copy !req
282. Hey, take care of yourself, okay?Copy !req
283. - Thank you.
- Okay.Copy !req
284. Thank you, bye.Copy !req
285. Liv, I had TARU image Emilia's phoneCopy !req
286. and, um, there's some videos on hereCopy !req
287. that I don't think
she wanted Richard to see.Copy !req
288. Should I get Emilia?Copy !req
289. Not yet. This is a whole new case.Copy !req
290. Those guys are at least 40 years old.Copy !req
291. Well, now we know why LaraCopy !req
292. didn't want us to see her phone.Copy !req
293. The kids at school
are treating me funny.Copy !req
294. "Funny" how?Copy !req
295. They're all, like, super nice.Copy !req
296. I can tell
they're all talking about me.Copy !req
297. Okay, well, listen, I... I know
it can feel that way.Copy !req
298. Have you called the therapist?Copy !req
299. - I will.
- Yeah.Copy !req
300. I know how difficult this is, Emilia,Copy !req
301. but I think it would really help.Copy !req
302. Yeah.Copy !req
303. So I need to talk to you
about something else.Copy !req
304. - He's... he's not getting out?
- No, no, no.Copy !req
305. He's going away for a very long time.Copy !req
306. But...Copy !req
307. I saw the video on your phone.Copy !req
308. I don't know what you're talking about.Copy !req
309. Are you sure?Copy !req
310. 'Cause I can talk
to Mary or Richard about it.Copy !req
311. No, he'd kill me.Copy !req
312. Okay, then why don't you tell me?Copy !req
313. Okay? Just you and me.Copy !req
314. And I need you to tell me everything.Copy !req
315. - A man...
- What man?Copy !req
316. I met him online.Copy !req
317. He said his name was Bob,
but I don't know.Copy !req
318. It was when I first got here.Copy !req
319. And Richard and Mary are great, but...Copy !req
320. But?Copy !req
321. I was just lonely, I guess.Copy !req
322. Emilia, the men in the video,Copy !req
323. they were more than...
than twice your age.Copy !req
324. It was just once.Copy !req
325. Okay.Copy !req
326. Do you remember where you were?Copy !req
327. Honey, what they did to you
is against the law.Copy !req
328. It's illegal.Copy !req
329. - They didn't force me.
- It doesn't matter.Copy !req
330. Did they give you anything?Copy !req
331. Alcohol, drinks?Copy !req
332. - Huh?
- Yes.Copy !req
333. But... I didn't even want it.Copy !req
334. Okay.Copy !req
335. It was at the Harper Hotel
and I never went back.Copy !req
336. But please...Copy !req
337. if Richard finds out
he'll send me home.Copy !req
338. Okay.Copy !req
339. I understand.Copy !req
340. - His name is Alex Kay.
- Who?Copy !req
341. This scumbag.
I ran him through facial recognitionCopy !req
342. and came up with him
at the Black & White Ball.Copy !req
343. - He's a developer.
- That means he's got bucks.Copy !req
344. Yeah, good. Get himself a good lawyer.Copy !req
345. Let me get my coat.Copy !req
346. I can handle him myself, Fin.Copy !req
347. I'm not worried about you.Copy !req
348. These are condo complexes
in Buenos Aires.Copy !req
349. Nice.Copy !req
350. They should be done sometime next year.Copy !req
351. Archie, Archie,
we've been through this.Copy !req
352. The capital loss is temporary.Copy !req
353. You'll make it back
in three months tops.Copy !req
354. The rest is gravy.Copy !req
355. That's right, just trust me.Copy !req
356. The guy's got 500 milCopy !req
357. and he still wets his pants
over every deal.Copy !req
358. Alex Kay.Copy !req
359. - Let me guess... Detective Rollins?
- Pretty good.Copy !req
360. Which makes you Sergeant Tutuola.Copy !req
361. - Last time I checked.
- Sit, sit.Copy !req
362. Oh, we're good. We'll stand.Copy !req
363. Ah, a man after my own heart.Copy !req
364. You want a deal to tank,
put your ass in a chair.Copy !req
365. What can I do for you?Copy !req
366. We wanted to ask you about
a party that you attended.Copy !req
367. Half my job is going to parties.Copy !req
368. Believe me, fun is a lot of work.Copy !req
369. Well, it seems like you really had funCopy !req
370. at this party.Copy !req
371. Here, you can go ahead and press play.Copy !req
372. That's obscene.Copy !req
373. She's 15. It's illegal.Copy !req
374. And that's a good thing?Copy !req
375. Think you should take another look.Copy !req
376. At the... the man right there
beside the girl.Copy !req
377. - And?
- You recognize her?Copy !req
378. - Should I?
- Yeah, that's you, Mr. Kay.Copy !req
379. - Me?
- Yeah.Copy !req
380. No. No, you're mistaken.Copy !req
381. Oh, you should look again.Copy !req
382. Right here.Copy !req
383. Sure, if you stretch your imagination.Copy !req
384. The hair is similar, maybe the nose,Copy !req
385. but I can assure you it's not me.Copy !req
386. And if we disagree?Copy !req
387. I have an army of lawyersCopy !req
388. over there with their fingersCopy !req
389. on the "libel" buttons
on their computers.Copy !req
390. You know what else is good
about standing?Copy !req
391. It makes it easier to arrest your ass.Copy !req
392. - This is outrageous.
- Mm-hmm.Copy !req
393. Rollins. Yeah.Copy !req
394. No, I know where to find her.Copy !req
395. - What?
- That was TARU.Copy !req
396. That sex tape... somebody emailed itCopy !req
397. to Emilia last August.Copy !req
398. It was her sister, Lara.Copy !req
399. The good news is,Copy !req
400. your kid sister
kept your name out of it.Copy !req
401. Bad news, we know you filmed herCopy !req
402. having sex with two older guys.Copy !req
403. That's child porn, Lara.Copy !req
404. We didn't sell it or anything.Copy !req
405. Feds aren't gonna really care.Copy !req
406. Yeah, and a New York DA
isn't gonna be too keenCopy !req
407. on pimping out a minor.Copy !req
408. No, it's not like that at all.Copy !req
409. I was invited to a party and
Emilia begged to come with me.Copy !req
410. She wants to do everything I do.Copy !req
411. Did she know what kind
of party this was?Copy !req
412. Yeah, she didn't care. She was into it.Copy !req
413. And you didn't think she was
a little bit young for this?Copy !req
414. Look, she had to grow up sometime.Copy !req
415. She's my baby sister.Copy !req
416. The operative word being "baby."Copy !req
417. I love her.Copy !req
418. I wouldn't do anything to hurt her.Copy !req
419. Well, I think we're well past that.Copy !req
420. - Don't you?
- Yeah, we are.Copy !req
421. So you need to tell us
whose party that was, okay?Copy !req
422. A guy named Bob, I think.Copy !req
423. I met him in a bar, okay?Copy !req
424. He told me he was staying
at the Harper Hotel.Copy !req
425. He was from Cincinnati or something.Copy !req
426. - What about the other guy?
- He was from LA.Copy !req
427. They were both here on business.Copy !req
428. Do you remember his name
being Alex Kay?Copy !req
429. No. Should I?Copy !req
430. You gotta remember, we're from
a tiny town in Italy, okay?Copy !req
431. We were just looking
for a little excitement.Copy !req
432. Okay.Copy !req
433. Emilia and I swore that we'dCopy !req
434. keep this entire thing a secret.Copy !req
435. Then why'd you send her the video?Copy !req
436. She wanted it. I don't know why.Copy !req
437. If Richard ever found out,
he'd send her home.Copy !req
438. Well, it sounds like
she would have beenCopy !req
439. a hell of a lot safer back there.Copy !req
440. Yeah.Copy !req
441. So I have a class.Copy !req
442. Yeah, go ahead.Copy !req
443. You see that crucifix around her neck?Copy !req
444. I don't buy for one second
that she didn't knowCopy !req
445. - what she was doing was wrong.
- How about the host parents?Copy !req
446. You think they had no idea
this was going on?Copy !req
447. Let's go find out.Copy !req
448. Hi. Hi, come on in.Copy !req
449. Hi.Copy !req
450. Wow, this is a beautiful apartment.Copy !req
451. Oh, thank you.Copy !req
452. Richard's a quant trader.Copy !req
453. - He does very well.
- "Quant trader"?Copy !req
454. It has to do with algorithms
for high-frequency trading.Copy !req
455. Oh.Copy !req
456. It's a combination of math,
finance, and computers.Copy !req
457. That's about all I know.Copy !req
458. He'll tell you all about it
if you're interested.Copy !req
459. Can I get you something?
I... I have some coffee brewing.Copy !req
460. - Sounds great. I'll help you.
- Oh, thank you.Copy !req
461. I still can't believe we have all this.Copy !req
462. Richard and I met in
high school back in Rego Park.Copy !req
463. Long way from Rego Park.Copy !req
464. It is.Copy !req
465. We couldn't have children of our own.Copy !req
466. Or should I say I couldn't.Copy !req
467. I'm sorry.Copy !req
468. Oh, I've learned to live with it.Copy !req
469. I think that we get as much
out of the exchange studentsCopy !req
470. as they get out of us.Copy !req
471. You guys have been doing it
for a long time?Copy !req
472. Mm, Emilia's our ninth.Copy !req
473. That is some view.Copy !req
474. Oh, thank you.Copy !req
475. Oh, but now when I look out the windowCopy !req
476. all I can think about is that
cabbie driving by with Emilia.Copy !req
477. There... there's nothing wrong
with the case, is there?Copy !req
478. - No.
- Not at all,Copy !req
479. we're just wondering
how Emilia's doing.Copy !req
480. Are you sure you're cops?Copy !req
481. We know how hard it can beCopy !req
482. to readjust after...Copy !req
483. She seems to be
doing okay, considering.Copy !req
484. Okay.Copy !req
485. 'Cause, you know,
we spoke to her and...Copy !req
486. seemed like she was hiding something.Copy !req
487. Mrs. Matthews.Copy !req
488. I... I shouldn't.Copy !req
489. Maybe we can help.Copy !req
490. Uh, no.Copy !req
491. Nobody...Copy !req
492. What?Copy !req
493. They were sexually abused.Copy !req
494. Both of them.Copy !req
495. By their dad back in Italy.Copy !req
496. Please... please don't tell
Richard that I told you.Copy !req
497. I mean, what... what kind
of man does...Copy !req
498. So there's no doors,Copy !req
499. on any of the bedrooms
in that apartment.Copy !req
500. Emilia never had a moment's privacy.Copy !req
501. Doesn't make sense.
We know she was a victim.Copy !req
502. A victim would want
double locks on the door.Copy !req
503. - Right.
- And the... the sister actCopy !req
504. at the sex party?Copy !req
505. It... it's strange.Copy !req
506. And it wouldn't be the first time,Copy !req
507. an abused teen acted out
sexually, but this?Copy !req
508. This doesn't add up.Copy !req
509. He's already in jail in Italy.Copy !req
510. Lara testified against him.Copy !req
511. I am so sorry for everything
that you've been through.Copy !req
512. Emilia, how old were you?Copy !req
513. Four.Copy !req
514. Do I have to talk about this?Copy !req
515. I... I really think that it will help.Copy !req
516. Help what? I'm fine.Copy !req
517. - I got over it.
- You're not fine.Copy !req
518. Okay? You went to a
sex party with two menCopy !req
519. that we over twice your age.Copy !req
520. You think I'm a slut.Copy !req
521. Uh, n-not at all.Copy !req
522. That's far from the truth.Copy !req
523. Okay, I think that you
are punishing yourself.Copy !req
524. For being a slut.Copy !req
525. I think that you are
a young, innocent girlCopy !req
526. who had a bad thing happen to her.Copy !req
527. It happened because of me.Copy !req
528. Emilia.Copy !req
529. Emilia, your father...Copy !req
530. is the criminal here.Copy !req
531. Not you.Copy !req
532. This is not your fault.Copy !req
533. What did your father do to you?Copy !req
534. It was always in the morning
when Lara was at school.Copy !req
535. Mama was in town at the market.Copy !req
536. She went every Tuesday.Copy !req
537. I could hear his flip-flops
snap against the wooden floorCopy !req
538. and I knew.Copy !req
539. He carried me into his bed.Copy !req
540. The same bed where he slept...Copy !req
541. every night with Mama.Copy !req
542. I could smell the wine on his breathCopy !req
543. from the night before.Copy !req
544. He crawled on top of me and laughed.Copy !req
545. He... grunted like a pig.Copy !req
546. How old were you?Copy !req
547. Four.Copy !req
548. Look, I already told the court
in Italy all about it.Copy !req
549. - They locked him up.
- And what about your mom?Copy !req
550. We couldn't prove
she knew about it, but...Copy !req
551. - she's suffering anyway.
- Mm.Copy !req
552. Nobody in the town
will talk to her anymore.Copy !req
553. That's why I insisted that
Emilia come to America.Copy !req
554. Thank God Richard wanted
another student,Copy !req
555. What about Mary?Copy !req
556. Sure. She loves us, too.Copy !req
557. But Richard?Copy !req
558. He helped me realize
what my father had done to me.Copy !req
559. I'll love him forever for that.Copy !req
560. Was there a door on your bedroomCopy !req
561. when you lived at Richard and Mary's?Copy !req
562. What? Of course, why?Copy !req
563. Because there's no doors
on any of the bedrooms now.Copy !req
564. Oh, uh.Copy !req
565. Well that's probably
their stupid decorator,Copy !req
566. bringing in doors from, uh,Copy !req
567. France, or Germany, or something.Copy !req
568. Okay.Copy !req
569. You wanna tell me about...Copy !req
570. any other parties
there might have been?Copy !req
571. What other parties?Copy !req
572. Like the one you had
at the Harper Hotel.Copy !req
573. I told you, that was only one time.Copy !req
574. I flew here for Lara's
graduation from high school.Copy !req
575. Richard paid for it.Copy !req
576. Did your mother come too?Copy !req
577. Lara didn't want her here.Copy !req
578. She blames her.Copy !req
579. Do you?Copy !req
580. Now I do.Copy !req
581. She let it all happen. She had to know.Copy !req
582. Anyway, I never went home after that.Copy !req
583. You didn't go home
for your father's trial?Copy !req
584. Richard said I was too young.Copy !req
585. That it would be too painful.Copy !req
586. He went back with Lara
and then brought her back here.Copy !req
587. We are never going back to Italy.Copy !req
588. Hey, I'm gonna go get a salad.Copy !req
589. - You want something?
- No.Copy !req
590. No thanks. Rollins, listen to this.Copy !req
591. It's the transcript
of the trial in ItalyCopy !req
592. and Lara said...Copy !req
593. - English, por favore.
- Sorry, sorry, sorry.Copy !req
594. "I could hear his flip-flops snap"Copy !req
595. "against the wooden floor and I knew."Copy !req
596. "He crawled on top of me and laughed."Copy !req
597. "He grunted like a pig."Copy !req
598. These are the exact same words,Copy !req
599. that Emilia used to describe
what happened to her.Copy !req
600. Lara said the same thing to me.Copy !req
601. Word for word.Copy !req
602. They both had to be coached.Copy !req
603. Lara told me that it was Richard...Copy !req
604. that helped her realize
that she was molested.Copy !req
605. He went to Italy for the trial, too.Copy !req
606. Oh, my God.Copy !req
607. I got a list
of all the exchange studentsCopy !req
608. that stayed with Richard and Mary.Copy !req
609. One of them is still here.Copy !req
610. She works as a translator at the UN.Copy !req
611. Talk to her and call me.Copy !req
612. Richard Matthews? How can I forget?Copy !req
613. Why would you say that?Copy !req
614. I was a kid, you know?Copy !req
615. 16, fresh off the boat from Ponta Pora.Copy !req
616. It's a small town in Brazil.Copy !req
617. I was with him two weeks
and it was great.Copy !req
618. At least I thought it was.
A party every night.Copy !req
619. - What kind of parties?
- Lots of booze.Copy !req
620. And then Richard told me
to come to the den with himCopy !req
621. to watch a film.Copy !req
622. He called it a film.Copy !req
623. It was homemade porn starring RichardCopy !req
624. and the girl from my town
that stayed with themCopy !req
625. two years before.Copy !req
626. I got the hell out of there that night.Copy !req
627. Thank you for coming.Copy !req
628. You got here okay?Copy !req
629. Yeah.Copy !req
630. This is really weird.Copy !req
631. I know. I know it is.Copy !req
632. Listen, I wanted
to talk to you privatelyCopy !req
633. and I figured that you were sickCopy !req
634. of the squad room by now.Copy !req
635. I've really got nothing else to say.Copy !req
636. Okay, well, why don't you
sit for a minute, all right?Copy !req
637. This will just take
a very short time, honey.Copy !req
638. So, Emilia, I need you
to tell me again...Copy !req
639. exactly...Copy !req
640. what your father did to you.Copy !req
641. - This is dumb.
- No, listen to me.Copy !req
642. Please, it is very important.Copy !req
643. I need you to trust me,Copy !req
644. and after this I promise you
I'm not gonna bother you again.Copy !req
645. Please.Copy !req
646. So... you said...Copy !req
647. you said that it happened
in the morningCopy !req
648. when Lara was at school, right?Copy !req
649. Mama was in town at the market.Copy !req
650. She went every Tuesday.Copy !req
651. I could hear his flip-flops
snap against the wooden floorCopy !req
652. and I knew.Copy !req
653. That's exactly...Copy !req
654. what your sister said.Copy !req
655. Word for word.Copy !req
656. Do you know what I think?Copy !req
657. I think maybe you weren't...Copy !req
658. really molested by your father.Copy !req
659. Papa's in jail.Copy !req
660. I know he is,Copy !req
661. and I think that that is a mistake.Copy !req
662. - Why would I lie?
- You're not lying.Copy !req
663. I know that you believe that
that really happened, Emilia,Copy !req
664. but I think that you were brainwashed.Copy !req
665. You and your sister...Copy !req
666. - You're crazy.
- Listen to me.Copy !req
667. Look at these photos, okay?Copy !req
668. Just...Copy !req
669. Emilia, do you remember that?Copy !req
670. I don't want to look at him.Copy !req
671. Do you remember riding
a bike with your father?Copy !req
672. How about this one?Copy !req
673. That's my First Communion.Copy !req
674. It's when Mama gave me this.Copy !req
675. I found these pictures
on your mother's Facebook page.Copy !req
676. Emilia...Copy !req
677. do you really remember...Copy !req
678. being molested by your father?Copy !req
679. I didn't think so.Copy !req
680. Emilia, who told you that?Copy !req
681. Who put that idea in your head?Copy !req
682. Lara. She said he did it to her, too.Copy !req
683. I didn't believe her.Copy !req
684. Did Richard tell you that as well?Copy !req
685. I didn't believe him, but he proved it.Copy !req
686. He proved it?Copy !req
687. How?Copy !req
688. - How could he prove it?
- I don't want to talk about it.Copy !req
689. Emilia, this is very important.Copy !req
690. How could he prove it?Copy !req
691. With his fingers.Copy !req
692. Oh, sweetheart.Copy !req
693. He put them inside me and he said...Copy !req
694. What did he say?Copy !req
695. He said he loved me.Copy !req
696. Emilia, that's not love, honey.Copy !req
697. He hurt you. He brainwashed you.Copy !req
698. It's called grooming.Copy !req
699. Why would he do that?Copy !req
700. Because he wanted you
to do what he wanted.Copy !req
701. Did Richard have sex with you?Copy !req
702. He said he loved me.Copy !req
703. Did he take you to that party
with the older men?Copy !req
704. He shot the video on Lara's phone.Copy !req
705. Papa's in jail.Copy !req
706. What did I do?Copy !req
707. - Are you okay?
- Lara... Lara called him.Copy !req
708. - He won't talk to anyone.
- Put some ice on that.Copy !req
709. See that building over there on Third?Copy !req
710. That one.Copy !req
711. I used to own it.Copy !req
712. Sold it for six million.Copy !req
713. Today it's worth, oh, 150.Copy !req
714. Sometimes you just do something dumb.Copy !req
715. Some things are dumber than others.Copy !req
716. I love them, you know.Copy !req
717. Who? Emilia and Lara?Copy !req
718. All of them.Copy !req
719. They were all different.Copy !req
720. All beautiful in their own way.Copy !req
721. - They're kids.
- Yeah, they were.Copy !req
722. - Young and innocent.
- And naive?Copy !req
723. They had no idea how cruelCopy !req
724. and indecent this world could be.Copy !req
725. So you showed them, huh?Copy !req
726. What I did with my girls
wasn't dirty, detective.Copy !req
727. It was beautiful.Copy !req
728. What about your wife?Copy !req
729. She had her day.Copy !req
730. You really are a prick, you know that?Copy !req
731. In your eyes.Copy !req
732. All my girls love me.Copy !req
733. Even after you tossed them aside,Copy !req
734. you moved on to the next one?Copy !req
735. Or passed them around to your buddies?Copy !req
736. Let me ask you something, Mr. Matthews.Copy !req
737. What age were you
when you were first abused?Copy !req
738. Oh, my God.Copy !req
739. Oh, come on.Copy !req
740. - What, is that really necessary?
- No.Copy !req
741. Richard Matthews, you're under arrest.Copy !req
742. No, no! Please, just... just wait!Copy !req
743. - Just wait!
- Come on...Copy !req
744. No!Copy !req
745. No, no, no! Please!Copy !req
746. Please, please! No!Copy !req
747. Please!Copy !req
748. No!Copy !req
749. I never wanted any of this.Copy !req
750. But you knew about it.
Didn't you, Mary?Copy !req
751. Don't say anything.Copy !req
752. That's why Richard removed the doors.Copy !req
753. - So you could watch.
- He made me.Copy !req
754. - Mary, no.
- I have...Copy !req
755. I have to tell somebody.Copy !req
756. He thought it was funny.Copy !req
757. The old bitch watching
the younger bitches.Copy !req
758. That's what he said.Copy !req
759. Sometimes he made me applaud
his performances.Copy !req
760. It was... he was sick.Copy !req
761. And look what he did to her.Copy !req
762. I wanted to... to help all the girls.Copy !req
763. I did, I...Copy !req
764. I was just... I was scared.Copy !req
765. Scared of what?Copy !req
766. That he'd leave.Copy !req
767. What would happen to me then?Copy !req
768. What's gonna...Copy !req
769. what's gonna happen to me now?Copy !req
770. Please.Copy !req
771. What is it?Copy !req
772. Where are you?Copy !req
773. NYPD.Copy !req
774. Emilia.Copy !req
775. - Emilia.
- She took pills!Copy !req
776. - A lot of them!
- All right,Copy !req
777. I want you to call an ambulance.Copy !req
778. - I did!
- What's the point?Copy !req
779. - When did she take them?
- A-a couple minutes ago!Copy !req
780. - I couldn't stop her.
- Okay, Lara.Copy !req
781. Would it be okay if we stood up
and walked around a little bit?Copy !req
782. - I loved him.
- Okay, shh.Copy !req
783. - And you killed him!
- Oh, God.Copy !req
784. Just try to stand up with me.Copy !req
785. Both of you!Copy !req
786. - Shh, it's okay.
- No.Copy !req
787. You took him!Copy !req
788. He would have come back to me!Copy !req
789. I was the one he really loved!Copy !req
790. Honey, that's not love.
Listen, let's just try...Copy !req
791. Get off!Copy !req
792. Let's just walk around, okay?Copy !req
793. Oh, okay.Copy !req
794. Shh... Stay with me, honey.Copy !req
795. Stay with me.Copy !req
796. Hey, she took Ambien.
I don't know how many.Copy !req
797. You're gonna get some help now.Copy !req
798. She's gonna be okay.Copy !req
799. Emilia, it's all right.Copy !req
800. She's gonna be okay.Copy !req
801. So are you.Copy !req
802. - Twenty-seven stories.
- You're not feeling guilty?Copy !req
803. I'm Catholic. I always feel guilty.Copy !req
804. You know, the weird thing is,Copy !req
805. is if Emilia hadn't
gotten assaulted by that cabbieCopy !req
806. who knows how her life
would have turned out.Copy !req
807. That's great news.
I'll talk to you tomorrow.Copy !req
808. - That's Liv.
- What's up?Copy !req
809. They pumped Lara's stomach.
She'll be fine.Copy !req
810. Fine is one thing those girls
are never gonna be.Copy !req
811. I'm talking physically.Copy !req
812. The mom is coming in from Italy.Copy !req
813. That's gotta be awkward.Copy !req
814. Liv will be there to break the ice.Copy !req
815. They put the father in jail
for child rape.Copy !req
816. She's gonna need a pretty big
ice pick for that.Copy !req
817. Moms forgive. That's part of the drill.Copy !req
818. Not my mom.Copy !req
819. Matthew singlehandedly
destroyed an entire family.Copy !req
820. Don't forget about the other
seven exchange studentsCopy !req
821. scattered all over the world.Copy !req
822. Yeah, welcome to America.
Land of the free.Copy !req
823. Home of the sick bastards.Copy !req
824. This is silly.Copy !req
825. I'm not gonna hurt myself.Copy !req
826. It's just for a couple days, Lara.Copy !req
827. What's gonna happen?Copy !req
828. Well, our ADA has contactedCopy !req
829. the Ministry of Justice in Italy...Copy !req
830. and they're working on getting
your father out of prison.Copy !req
831. Will he ever forgive me?Copy !req
832. I don't think I can do this.Copy !req
833. Yes, you can.Copy !req
834. Yes, you can.Copy !req
