40. They've got to!Copy !req
41. Ah! Sideways momentum!
You've still got sideways momentum!Copy !req
42. What?Copy !req
43. Your propellers work independently
of the main turbines.Copy !req
44. You can't stop her going down
but you can manoeuvre the sub laterally.Copy !req
45. - Do it!
- Get these people off the bridge now!Copy !req
46. Just listen to him, for God's sake!Copy !req
47. Geographical anomaly to starboard.

Now, search them.Copy !req
61. Hey? Ooh!Copy !req
62. - Are we going to be okay?
- Oh, yes.Copy !req
63. - Is that a lie?
- Possibly.Copy !req
64. Very dangerous time, Clara.Copy !req
65. East and West standing on the brink

66. Lots of itchy fingers on the button.Copy !req
67. - Isn't it always like that?
- Sort of.Copy !req
68. But there are flashpoints

79. If it comes.Copy !req
80. Oh, this sinking
is just a coincidence, is it?Copy !req
81. Who are you?Copy !req
82. All right, captain, all right!Copy !req
83. You know what, just this once,Copy !req
84. no dissembling, no psychic paper,
no pretending to be an Earth Ambassador.Copy !req
85. Doctor. Me and Clara are
time travellers. Clara, you okay?Copy !req
86. - Think so.
- Time travellers?Copy !req
87. We arrived out of thin air.
You just saw it happen.Copy !req
88. - I didn't.
- Your problem, mate. Not mine.Copy !req
89. - We were sinking.
Yes.Copy !req
90. - What happened?
We sank.Copy !req
91. - What happened to the Tardis, I mean?
- Never mind that. Listen.Copy !req
92. Captain, breath's precious down here.Copy !req
93. - Let's not waste it, eh?
- You're right.Copy !req
94. Maybe I could save a little oxygen
by having you both shot!Copy !req
95. - Uh...
- What does it matter how we arrived?Copy !req
96. - The important thing is to get...
- (HISSING)Copy !req
97. - ... out.
Exactly.Copy !req
98. Number one priority, not suffocating.Copy !req
99. Huh? Oh! Oh.Copy !req
100. Thank you. Finally seeing sense.Copy !req
101. Now, what sort of state is the sub in?Copy !req
102. - Doctor.
- What about the radio? Can we send...Copy !req
103. - Doctor!
- What?Copy !req
104. What is that, gas? Could be gas.Copy !req
105. Ah!Copy !req
106. - It never rains but it pours.
- (CREATURE HISSING)Copy !req
107. We were drilling for oil in the ice.
I thought I found a mammoth.Copy !req
108. It's not a mammoth.Copy !req
109. No.Copy !req
110. - What is it, then?
- It's an ice warrior.Copy !req
111. A native of the planet Mars.Copy !req
112. And we go way back.Copy !req
113. - Way back.
- Martian? You can't be serious!Copy !req
114. - I'm always serious, with days off.
- Doctor.Copy !req
115. Just keeping it light, Clara.
They're scared.Copy !req
116. - They're scared? I'm scared!
- (GUN COCKING)Copy !req
117. - No, no! No, no, no, no, no.
- (WEAPON POWERING UP)Copy !req
118. Please! Please! Wait, just...
There is no need for this.Copy !req
119. Just hear me out. You're...
You're confused, disorientated.Copy !req
120. And of course you are, you've been lying
dormant in the ice for... For how long?Copy !req
121. - How long, Professor?
- By my reckoning, 5,000 years.Copy !req
122. 5,000 years. That's a hell of a nap.Copy !req
123. Can't blame you if you got out
on the wrong side of bed.Copy !req
124. Look, nobody here wants to hurt you.Copy !req
125. Please, just...
Why don't you tell us your name?Copy !req
126. What are you talking about, name?
It has a name?Copy !req
127. Of course it has a name. And a rank.Copy !req
128. This is a soldier
and it deserves our respect.Copy !req
129. This is madness. That is a monster!Copy !req
130. Skaldak.Copy !req
131. - What did you say?
- I am Grand Marshal Skaldak.Copy !req
132. Oh, no.Copy !req
133. You idiot!Copy !req
134. - (SKALDAK HISSING)
- You idiot.Copy !req
135. Grand Marshal Skaldak.Copy !req
136. You... know him.Copy !req
137. Sovereign of the Tharsyssian caste.Copy !req
138. Vanquisher of the Phobos heresy.Copy !req
139. The greatest hero the proud Martian race
has ever produced.Copy !req
140. So what do we do now?Copy !req
141. Lock him up.Copy !req
142. Is it true?Copy !req
143. Uh, true?Copy !req
144. I slept for 5,000 years?Copy !req
145. Uh...Copy !req
146. Uh, that's what the professor says.Copy !req
147. Five thousand years.Copy !req
148. DOCTOR". The ice warriors
have a different creed, Clara,Copy !req
149. a different code.Copy !req
150. By his own standards, Skaldak is a hero.Copy !req
151. And it was said
his enemies honoured him so muchCopy !req
152. they'd carve his name
into their own flesh before they died.Copy !req
153. Oh, yeah. Very nice. He sounds lovely.Copy !req
154. An ice warrior? Explain.Copy !req
155. There isn't time.
- Try me.Copy !req
156. Martian reptile
known as the ice warrior.Copy !req
157. When Mars turned cold,
they had to adapt. Their biomechanoids,Copy !req
158. cyborgs,
built themselves survival armourCopy !req
159. so they could exist in the freezing cold
of their home world.Copy !req
160. But a sudden increase in temperature
and the armour goes haywire.Copy !req
161. - Like with the cattle prod thing?
- Like that cattle prod thing.Copy !req
162. Bit of a design flaw, to be honest.Copy !req
163. I've always wondered
why they never sorted it.Copy !req
164. Oh, look, you've got me telling you
about them and I said there wasn't time!Copy !req
165. Is he that dangerous?Copy !req
166. This one is.Copy !req
167. Find me, my brothers,Copy !req
168. if you are still out there.Copy !req
169. Find me.Copy !req
170. Why are we listening
to this nonsense, Captain?Copy !req
171. These people are clearly enemy agents.Copy !req
172. - Huh?
- Spies, Captain.Copy !req
173. Pretty bad spies, mate.
Don't even speak Russian.Copy !req
174. - What?
- I don't...Copy !req
175. Am I speaking Russian?
How come I'm speaking Russian?Copy !req
176. Now? We have to do this now?Copy !req
177. - Are they speaking Russian?
- Seriously, now?Copy !req
178. It's the Tardis Translation Matrix.Copy !req
179. In my opinion, comrade Captain,
this creature is a Western weapon.Copy !req
180. - Are they?
- Yes. They're Russians.Copy !req
181. - A weapon?
- Survival suit.Copy !req
182. What is the alternative?
The little green man from Mars?Copy !req
183. Correction.
It's a big green man from Mars.Copy !req
184. I don't appreciate your levity,
Professor.Copy !req
185. Why does that not surprise me?Copy !req
186. - Maybe they're telling the truth.
- The truth?Copy !req
187. Yes. A revolutionary concept, I know.Copy !req
188. It's essential that we inform
Moscow of what we have found.Copy !req
189. Oh, the radio is out of action,
in case you hadn't noticed, Stepashin.Copy !req
190. They have our last position.
They will find us.Copy !req
191. - When they do...
- Yes?Copy !req
192. Well, Cold War won't stay
cold forever, Captain.Copy !req
193. For God's sake, Stepashin,
you're like a stuck record.Copy !req
194. We have other priorities right now.
I want you back on repairs immediately.Copy !req
195. We need to keep this ship alive.
Dismissed.Copy !req
196. Sir?Copy !req
197. Dismissed, Stepashin.Copy !req
198. All we needed to doCopy !req
199. was let Skaldak go
and he'd have forgotten us.Copy !req
200. But you attacked him, you declared war.Copy !req
201. "Harm one of us and you harm us all."Copy !req
202. It's the ancient Martian code.
You hear that?Copy !req
203. Skaldak has sent out a distress call.Copy !req
204. He will bring down the fires of hell
just for laying a glove on him.Copy !req
205. Unless you talk to it?Copy !req
206. - I'm the only one who can.
- No. Out of the question.Copy !req
207. We're not losing you. I'll do it.Copy !req
208. - What?
- You can talk to it through me.Copy !req
209. But Skaldak won't talk to you.
You're an enemy soldier.Copy !req
210. - And how would he know that?
- A soldier knows another soldier.Copy !req
211. He'll smell it on you,
smell it on you a mile off.Copy !req
212. And he wouldn't smell it on you, Doctor?Copy !req
213. Just let me in there
before it's too late.Copy !req
214. It can't be you or any of your men.Copy !req
215. Well, it can't be you.Copy !req
216. Well, there really is only one choice,
isn't there?Copy !req
217. I don't smell of anything.Copy !req
218. To my knowledge.Copy !req
219. You? No! No! No way!
You're not going in there alone, Clara.Copy !req
220. Absolutely not!Copy !req
221. No, no. Never!Copy !req
222. With your permission.Copy !req
223. Be my guest.Copy !req
224. - (FEEDBACK HUMS)
- Ready, Clara?Copy !req
225. - Yeah.
Okay.Copy !req
226. Grand Marshal Skaldak.Copy !req
227. The salute.Copy !req
228. Do the salute like I showed you.Copy !req
229. - Okay?
- Good.Copy !req
230. Good. Now, like we rehearsed.Copy !req
231. "Sovereign of the Tharsyssian caste..."Copy !req
232. Sovereign of the Tharsyssian caste,
by the moons I honour thee.Copy !req
233. DOCTOR". Good.
It's okay, Clara. Go closer.Copy !req
234. Grand Marshal, I'm...Copy !req
235. We're sorry about this.Copy !req
236. It's not what you deserve.Copy !req
237. - It isn't what you deserve.
- (THUD)Copy !req
238. Oh. Oh, great.Copy !req
239. Hey, it's okay, Clara. Keep going.Copy !req
240. You're a long way from home.Copy !req
241. Five thousand years.Copy !req
242. And 5,000 years adrift in time.Copy !req
243. Please let us help you.
You are not our enemy.Copy !req
244. And yet I am in chains.Copy !req
245. Doctor, what do I say?Copy !req
246. Yes, Doctor,
what should she say?Copy !req
247. I think he wants to speak
to the organ-grinder, not to the monkey.Copy !req
248. I heard that.Copy !req
249. You are restrained
until we can trust each other, Skaldak.Copy !req
250. You would do
exactly the same in my position.Copy !req
251. And don't even think
about using that sonic weapon.Copy !req
252. Not in the torpedo room.Copy !req
253. I was fleet commander
of the Nix Tharsyss.Copy !req
254. My daughter stood by me.Copy !req
255. It was her first taste of action.Copy !req
256. We sang the songs of the old times.Copy !req
257. The songs of the red snow.Copy !req
258. Five thousand years.Copy !req
259. Now my daughter will be dust.Copy !req
260. Only dust.Copy !req
261. No, no, no, listen.
Your people live on, Skaldak,Copy !req
262. scattered all across the universe
and Mars will rise again, I promise you.Copy !req
263. Just let me help you.Copy !req
264. I require no help.Copy !req
265. There will be no help.Copy !req
266. Careful, Clara.
- I'm okay.Copy !req
267. No, listen, Clara, don't get too close.Copy !req
268. I'm okay.Copy !req
269. Doctor, something's wrong.Copy !req
270. What?Copy !req
271. Something's...Copy !req
272. It's not there, it's gone!Copy !req
273. Gone? Gone? Gone?
What do you mean, gone?Copy !req
274. It's got out!Copy !req
275. It is time I learnt
the measure of my enemiesCopy !req
276. and what this vessel is capable of.Copy !req
277. No, no, no, Skaldak!Copy !req
278. Harm one of us
and you harm us all.Copy !req
279. By the moons, this I swear. (SNARLS)Copy !req
280. Clara, get out of there. Get out!Copy !req
281. I have never seen one do this before.Copy !req
282. Actually, I've never seen one
out of its armour before.Copy !req
283. Won't it be more vulnerable
out of its shell?Copy !req
284. No. It will be more dangerous.Copy !req
285. Clara! Clara!Copy !req
286. Oh! (WHIMPERS)Copy !req
287. Clara!Copy !req
288. Clara! Clara! Clara!Copy !req
289. - (PANTING)
- I'm okay.Copy !req
290. (LAUGHS) I'm okay. I'm okay.
Where did he go?Copy !req
291. How did I do? Was I okay?Copy !req
292. This wasn't a test, Clara.Copy !req
293. - I know but...
- You were great, yeah.Copy !req
294. Really?Copy !req
295. Really.Copy !req
296. Doctor. The signal, it stopped.Copy !req
297. Skaldak got no answer
from his Martian brothers.Copy !req
298. Now he's given up hope.Copy !req
299. Hope of what?
- Being rescued.Copy !req
300. He thinks he's been abandoned.Copy !req
301. He's got nothing left to lose.Copy !req
302. Well, what can he do?
Stuck down here like the rest of us.Copy !req
303. How bad can it be?Copy !req
304. This sub's stuffed
with nuclear missiles, Zhukov.Copy !req
305. It's fat with them.Copy !req
306. What do you think Skaldak's going to do
when he finds that out?Copy !req
307. How bad can it be? How bad can it be?Copy !req
308. It couldn't be any worse.Copy !req
309. Okay. Spoke too soon.Copy !req
310. Hello. Who's there?Copy !req
311. Who's there?Copy !req
312. Who's there?Copy !req
313. What do you want with me?Copy !req
314. Much.Copy !req
315. Comrades, you know our situation.Copy !req
316. The reactor is drowned.Copy !req
317. We are totally reliant on battery power
and our air is running out.Copy !req
318. Rescue is unlikely.
But we still have a mission to fulfil.Copy !req
319. If the Doctor is right,Copy !req
320. then we are all that stands
between this creatureCopy !req
321. and the destruction of the world.Copy !req
322. Control of one missile is all he needs.Copy !req
323. We are expendable, comrades.Copy !req
324. Our world is not.Copy !req
325. I know I can rely on every one of you
to do his duty without fail.Copy !req
326. That is all.Copy !req
327. Listen to me. (PANTING)Copy !req
328. We both understand each other.Copy !req
329. This... This mewling time of peace,
it doesn't suit us.Copy !req
330. We're both warriors.Copy !req
331. And together, we can form an alliance.Copy !req
332. An alliance?Copy !req
333. Yes.Copy !req
334. To win the Cold War.Copy !req
335. Cold War?Copy !req
336. Both sides are capable
of completely obliterating the other.Copy !req
337. It's a state we call
mutually assured destruction.Copy !req
338. Mutually assured destruction.
But this has not occurred.Copy !req
339. No.Copy !req
340. Not yet.Copy !req
341. Even if a missile did get launched,
that wouldn't be it, would it?Copy !req
342. II It"?Copy !req
343. End of the world, game over.Copy !req
344. I mean, what if they fired one
by accident? What would happen then?Copy !req
345. Well, I told you, Clara, Earth is like
a storm waiting to break right now.Copy !req
346. Both sides baring their teeth,
talking up war.Copy !req
347. It would only take one tiny spark.Copy !req
348. Yeah, but the world didn't end in 1983,
did it? Or I wouldn't be here.Copy !req
349. You. History is in flux.
It can be changed.Copy !req
350. Rewritten.Copy !req
351. How many of us are left?Copy !req
352. Twelve. And we can't find Stepashin.Copy !req
353. We split up and comb the sub.
One team stays here to guard the bridge.Copy !req
354. That's it? That's the plan?Copy !req
355. Well, it's either that or we stay here
and wait for him to kill us.Copy !req
356. Okay.Copy !req
357. Is it true you've never seen one
outside of its shell suit?Copy !req
358. - "Shell suit"? Clara.
- Hmm.Copy !req
359. For an ice warrior to leave its armour
is the gravest dishonour.Copy !req
360. Skaldak is desperate. He's deadly.
And we have got to find him.Copy !req
361. Will this help?Copy !req
362. Ah! You saved it!Copy !req
363. No, no. It was on the floor with this.Copy !req
364. Oh! Oh! Professor, I could kiss you!Copy !req
365. If you insist.Copy !req
366. Later.Copy !req
367. Ah!Copy !req
368. Do you think it's true, sir?Copy !req
369. A Martian?Copy !req
370. I don't know what to think.Copy !req
371. So why have you got a cattle prod
on a submarine?Copy !req
372. - Polar bears.
- Ah, right.Copy !req
373. We run across them when we're drilling.Copy !req
374. Can be quite nasty, you know.Copy !req
375. I'd swap one for an ice warrior
any day. Cuddlier.Copy !req
376. Courage, my dear.Copy !req
377. - (BUZZING)
I always sing a song.Copy !req
378. - What?
- To keep my spirits up.Copy !req
379. Yeah, that would work,
if this was Pinocchio.Copy !req
380. Do you know Hungry Like the Wolf?Copy !req
381. What?Copy !req
382. Duran Duran, it's one of my favourites.
Come on!Copy !req
383. I'm not singing a song.Copy !req
384. - What was that?
- Pressure. Just pressure.Copy !req
385. We're 700 metres down, remember?Copy !req
386. Don't worry about it.
Think of something else.Copy !req
387. I'm not singing.Copy !req
388. - Don't you know it?
- Of course I know it.Copy !req
389. We do it at karaoke, the odd hen night.Copy !req
390. "Karaoke"? "Hen night"?Copy !req
391. You speak excellent Russian, my dear,Copy !req
392. but sometimes I don't understand
a word you're talking about.Copy !req
393. If we get out of here,
we'll be bloody heroes.Copy !req
394. If we get out of here.Copy !req
395. The first people in the world
to discover a genuine living...Copy !req
396. Alien? I don't know.Copy !req
397. You hear stories, don't you?Copy !req
398. Stories about the things
the Kremlin doesn't want us to...Copy !req
399. Onegin?Copy !req
400. Onegin!Copy !req
