1. Get down!Copy !req
2. - Did they see you?
- I don't know.Copy !req
3. - But did they see you?
- I was too busy running!Copy !req
4. Martha, it's important,
did they see your face?Copy !req
5. - No, they couldn't have.
- Off we go.Copy !req
6. Ah! They're following us.Copy !req
7. How can they do that?
You've got a time machine.Copy !req
8. Stolen technology. They've got
a time agent's vortex manipulator.Copy !req
9. They can follow us wherever we go.Copy !req
10. Right across the universe.
They're never going to stop.Copy !req
11. Unless... I'll have to do it.Copy !req
12. - Martha, you trust me, don't you?
- Of course I do.Copy !req
13. - 'Cause it all depends on you.
- What does? What am I supposed to do?Copy !req
14. Take this watch
because my life depends on it.Copy !req
15. This watch, Martha, this watch is...Copy !req
16. Come in.Copy !req
17. Pardon me, Mr Smith, you're not
dressed yet. I can come back later.Copy !req
18. No, it's all right, it's all right,
put it down.Copy !req
19. I was...Copy !req
20. Sorry, sorry.Copy !req
21. Sometimes I have
these extraordinary dreams.Copy !req
22. - What about, sir?
- I dream I'm this...Copy !req
23. adventurer.Copy !req
24. This daredevil, a madman.Copy !req
25. "The Doctor", I'm called.Copy !req
26. And last night,
I dreamt that you were there,Copy !req
27. as my... companion.Copy !req
28. A teacher and a housemaid, sir?
That's impossible.Copy !req
29. I'm a man from another world, you know.Copy !req
30. Well, then it can't be true
'cause there's no such thing.Copy !req
31. This thing, the watch...Copy !req
32. It's funny how dreams slip away.Copy !req
33. But I do remember one thing.Copy !req
34. It all took place in the future.Copy !req
35. In the year of our Lord, 2007.Copy !req
36. I can prove that wrong for you, sir.Copy !req
37. Here's the morning paper.Copy !req
38. It's Monday November 10, 1913,
and you're completely human, sir.Copy !req
39. - As human as they come.
- Mmm. That's me.Copy !req
40. Completely human.Copy !req
41. Good morning, sir.Copy !req
42. Good morning, sir.Copy !req
43. Headmaster.Copy !req
44. "The French were all but spent,Copy !req
45. "with only two battalions
of the old guard remaining.Copy !req
46. "The final reserve force
was charged with protecting Napoleon.Copy !req
47. "But by evening,
the advance of the allied troopsCopy !req
48. "had forced them to retreat."Copy !req
49. Morning, sir.Copy !req
50. Yes, hi.Copy !req
51. Head in the clouds, that one.
I don't know why you're so sweet on him.Copy !req
52. He's just kind to me, that's all.Copy !req
53. Not everyone's that considerate,
what with me being...Copy !req
54. - A Londoner?
- Exactly. Good old London town!Copy !req
55. Now then, you two.Copy !req
56. You're not paid to have fun, are you?
Put a little backbone into it.Copy !req
57. - Yes, sir. Sorry, sir.
- You there. What's your name again?Copy !req
58. Martha, sir. Martha Jones.Copy !req
59. Well, tell me then, Jones,Copy !req
60. with hands like those,
how can you tell when something's clean?Copy !req
61. - That's very funny, sir.
- Careful now, don't tense about it.Copy !req
62. I'd like to smack my bucket
over his head.Copy !req
63. Oh, I wish!Copy !req
64. Just think, though.Copy !req
65. In a few years' time, boys like that
will be running the country.Copy !req
66. 1913.Copy !req
67. They might not.Copy !req
68. - Excuse me, ma'am.
- Oh, good morning, Mr Smith.Copy !req
69. Oh! Here we go.Copy !req
70. - Let me help you.
- No, no, I've got it, no.Copy !req
71. Er... just to retrieve...
So, if you could take these...Copy !req
72. Thank you.Copy !req
73. - There we are.
- Good.Copy !req
74. No harm done.Copy !req
75. - So, how was Jenkins?
- Oh, just a cold, nothing serious.Copy !req
76. I think he's missing his mother
more than anything.Copy !req
77. Ah, can't have that.Copy !req
78. He received a letter this morning,
so he's a lot more chipper.Copy !req
79. - I appear to be holding your books.
- Yes, so you are, sorry. Sorry.Copy !req
80. - Yes, just let me...
- No, why don't I take half?Copy !req
81. Brilliant idea. Brilliant. Perfect.
Division of labour.Copy !req
82. - We make quite a team.
- Don't we just?Copy !req
83. So these books, were they being taken
in any particular direction?Copy !req
84. Yes, um, this way.Copy !req
85. I always say, Matron, you give the boys
a good head of steam,Copy !req
86. they'll soon wear themselves out.Copy !req
87. Truth be told,
when it's just you and me,Copy !req
88. I'd much rather
you call me Nurse Redfern.Copy !req
89. Matron sounds rather, well, matronly.Copy !req
90. Ah! Nurse Redfern it is, then.Copy !req
91. Though we've known each other all of
two months, you could even say Joan.Copy !req
92. Joan?
- That's my name.Copy !req
93. Well, obviously.Copy !req
94. - And it's John, isn't it?
- Yes, it is, yes.Copy !req
95. Have you seen this, John? The annual
dance at the village hall tomorrow?Copy !req
96. It's nothing formal,
but rather fun by all accounts.Copy !req
97. Do you think you'll go?Copy !req
98. I hadn't thought about it.Copy !req
99. It's been ages since I've been
to a dance, only no one's asked me.Copy !req
100. Well, I should imagine that you'd be...Copy !req
101. I mean... I mean,
I never thought you'd be one for...Copy !req
102. There's no reason why you shouldn't,
if you do, you may not...Copy !req
103. I probably won't,
but even if I did, then I...Copy !req
104. - I couldn't, um... I wouldn't want to...
- The stairs.Copy !req
105. - What about the stairs?
- They're right behind you.Copy !req
106. Stop it. I get boys
causing less fuss than this.Copy !req
107. But it hurts.Copy !req
108. - Is he all right?
- Excuse me, Martha.Copy !req
109. It's hardly good form to enter
a master's study without knocking.Copy !req
110. Sorry. You're right, yeah.Copy !req
111. But is he all right?
They said you fell down the stairs, sir.Copy !req
112. It was just a tumble, that's all.Copy !req
113. - Have you checked for concussion?
- I have.Copy !req
114. And I dare say
I know a lot more about it than you.Copy !req
115. Sorry. I'll just tidy your things.Copy !req
116. I was just telling
Nurse Redfern, Matron,Copy !req
117. about my dreams.
They are quite remarkable tales.Copy !req
118. I keep imagining that I'm someone else
and that I'm hiding.Copy !req
119. Hiding. In what way?Copy !req
120. Erm...Copy !req
121. They're almost every night and...Copy !req
122. - This is going to sound silly.
- Tell me.Copy !req
123. I dream, quite often, that...Copy !req
124. That I have two hearts.Copy !req
125. Well then, I can be the judge of that.
Let's find out.Copy !req
126. I can confirm the diagnosis.
just one heart. Singular.Copy !req
127. I have, um, I have written downCopy !req
128. some of these dreams
in the form of fiction.Copy !req
129. - Not that it would be of any interest.
- I'd be very interested.Copy !req
130. Yeah? Well...Copy !req
131. Never actually
shown it to anyone before.Copy !req
132. "A Journal of Impossible Things."Copy !req
133. Look at these creatures.
Such imagination.Copy !req
134. - Oh. It's become quite a hobby.
- Oh.Copy !req
135. It's wonderful.Copy !req
136. You have quite an eye
for the pretty girls.Copy !req
137. Oh, no, no, she's just an invention.
This character Rose. I call her Rose.Copy !req
138. Seems to disappear later on.Copy !req
139. Oh, that's the box, the blue box.
It's always there.Copy !req
140. Like a magic carpet...Copy !req
141. This fun little box that transports me
to faraway places.Copy !req
142. - Like a doorway?
- Mmm.Copy !req
143. I sometimes thinkCopy !req
144. how magical life would be
if stories like this were true.Copy !req
145. If only.Copy !req
146. It's just a dream.Copy !req
147. Ma'am.Copy !req
148. - That book.
- Oh, I'll look after it, don't worry.Copy !req
149. - He did say I could read it.
- But it's silly, that's all.Copy !req
150. Just stories.Copy !req
151. - Who is he, Martha?
- I'm sorry?Copy !req
152. It's like he's left the kettle on,
like he knows he has somethingCopy !req
153. to get back to,
but he can't remember what.Copy !req
154. - It's just him.
- You arrived with him, didn't you?Copy !req
155. He found you employment here
at the school, isn't that right?Copy !req
156. I used to work for the family.
He just sort of inherited me.Copy !req
157. Well, I'd be careful.
If you don't mind my saying,Copy !req
158. you sometimes seem
a little familiar with him.Copy !req
159. Best remember your position.Copy !req
160. Yes, ma'am.Copy !req
161. Ah, Latimer, here you are.Copy !req
162. Latin translation.Copy !req
163. Blasted Catullus.
I want it done by morning.Copy !req
164. - Yes, sir.
- And no mistakes.Copy !req
165. I want it written
in my best handwriting.Copy !req
166. Listen, Father says he's been promoted.
That means more money.Copy !req
167. - Might end up in a better school.
- Ah, you should enjoy it, sir.Copy !req
168. My uncle had a six-month posting
in Johannesburg.Copy !req
169. Says it was the most beautiful
countryside on God's earth.Copy !req
170. - What are you talking about?
- Africa.Copy !req
171. - Your father.
- Have you been reading my post?Copy !req
172. - What?
- Who said Africa?Copy !req
173. I've only just read the word myself.Copy !req
174. - How did you know that?
- I haven't...Copy !req
175. - Have you been spying on me?
- No. I just guessed.Copy !req
176. - What's that supposed to mean?
- I'm good at guessing, that's all.Copy !req
177. Idiot.Copy !req
178. Sometimes I say things
and they turn out to be correct.Copy !req
179. Just little things. Tiny things.
I can't help it.Copy !req
180. It's just some sort of luck.Copy !req
181. Right. Well, never mind
that little toad. Who's for beer?Copy !req
182. You've got beer?Copy !req
183. No, but Baxter's hidden a secret supply
in Blackdown Woods.Copy !req
184. Well, what are you waiting for?Copy !req
185. Make sure the bursar's down the pub
before you go past his window.Copy !req
186. - A bottle for everyone, is it?
- And none for the filth.Copy !req
187. And hurry back, Baines. I'm parched.Copy !req
188. Ooh, it's freezing out here. Why can't
we have a drink inside the pub?Copy !req
189. Don't be ridiculous.
You do get these notions.Copy !req
190. It's all very well those suffragettes,
but that's London. That's miles away.Copy !req
191. Don't you want to scream sometimes,
having to bow and scrape and behave?Copy !req
192. - Don't you just want to tell them?
- I don't know.Copy !req
193. Things must be different
in your country.Copy !req
194. Well, they are.
Thank God I'm not staying here.Copy !req
195. You keep saying that.Copy !req
196. Just you wait. One more month
and I'm as free as the wind.Copy !req
197. Wish you could come with me, Jenny.
You'd love it.Copy !req
198. - Where you gonna go?
- Anywhere.Copy !req
199. Just look up there.Copy !req
200. Imagine you could go all the way
out to the stars.Copy !req
201. You don't half say mad things.Copy !req
202. That's where I'm going.
Into the sky, all the way out.Copy !req
203. Hmm!Copy !req
204. Did you see that?Copy !req
205. - See what?
- Did you see it, though?Copy !req
206. Right up there, just for a second.Copy !req
207. Martha, there's nothing there.Copy !req
208. Matron, are you all right?Copy !req
209. Did you see that?
There was something in the woods.Copy !req
210. - This light.
- Anything wrong, ladies?Copy !req
211. Far too cold
to be standing round in the dark.Copy !req
212. There. There. Look, in the sky.Copy !req
213. Oh, that's beautiful.Copy !req
214. All gone. Commonly known as a meteorite.Copy !req
215. It's just rocks falling to the ground,
that's all.Copy !req
216. Came down in the woods.Copy !req
217. No, no, they always look close,
but actually they're miles off.Copy !req
218. Nothing left but a cinder.Copy !req
219. Now, I should escort you
back to the school.Copy !req
220. - Ladies?
- No, we're fine, thanks.Copy !req
221. Then I shall bid you good night.Copy !req
222. Jenny, where was that?Copy !req
223. On the horizon,
where the light was headed.Copy !req
224. That's by Coopers Field.Copy !req
225. You can't just run off! It's dark.
You'll break a leg!Copy !req
226. I say, hello?Copy !req
227. Some kind of aeroplane?Copy !req
228. You chaps all right?Copy !req
229. What? That's... That's impossible.Copy !req
230. Some kind of door.Copy !req
231. Hello?Copy !req
232. Is there anyone there?Copy !req
233. There you are.
Nothing there. I told you so.Copy !req
234. And that's Coopers Field?Copy !req
235. As far as the eye can see,
and no falling star.Copy !req
236. Now, come on, I'm frozen to the bone.
Let's go.Copy !req
237. As your Mr Smith says, "Nothing to see."Copy !req
238. But I don't understand. Who are you?Copy !req
239. We are the Family.Copy !req
240. Far more important,
who are you, little thing?Copy !req
241. My name's Baines. Jeremy Baines.
Please, can I go?Copy !req
242. I'm so sorry, Baines,
Jeremy Baines,Copy !req
243. but I don't think you can ever leave.Copy !req
244. But who are you? Why can't I see you?Copy !req
245. Why would you want
to see us?Copy !req
246. I want to know what you look like.Copy !req
247. Oh, that's easily answeredCopy !req
248. because very soon,
we will look so familiar:Copy !req
249. Where is he? Promises a beer
and then vanishes into the night.Copy !req
250. There he is. Let him in.Copy !req
251. Well, Baines, you dolt. Thought you'd
been caught by the rozzers.Copy !req
252. Well, then?Copy !req
253. Where is it, man?
Where's the blessed beer?Copy !req
254. There was no beer. It was gone.Copy !req
255. Damn it all, I've been waiting.Copy !req
256. Pretty poor show, Baines, I have to say.Copy !req
257. What's the matter with you?
Caught the sniffles out there?Copy !req
258. Yes, I must have. It was cold.Copy !req
259. Very cold.Copy !req
260. Well, don't spread it about.
I don't want your germs.Copy !req
261. Come on, might as well get some sleep.Copy !req
262. Come on, chaps, maybe tomorrow.
Jackson's got some beer in the pavilion.Copy !req
263. Hello.Copy !req
264. Talking to a machine.Copy !req
265. Get down!Copy !req
266. Ah! They're following us.Copy !req
267. They can follow us wherever we go.Copy !req
268. Right across the universe.
They're never gonna stop.Copy !req
269. - Martha, you trust me, don't you?
- Of course I do.Copy !req
270. 'Cause it all depends on you.Copy !req
271. Martha, this watch is me.Copy !req
272. Right, okay, gotcha.Copy !req
273. No! Hold on! Completely lost.Copy !req
274. Those creatures are hunters.
They can sniff out anyone.Copy !req
275. And me being a Time Lord,
well, I'm unique.Copy !req
276. They can track me down across
the whole of time and space.Copy !req
277. Huh. And the good news is?Copy !req
278. They can smell me, they haven't seen me,Copy !req
279. and their life supplies are running out,
so we hide.Copy !req
280. - Wait for them to die.
- But they can track us down.Copy !req
281. That's why I've got to do it.Copy !req
282. I have to stop being a Time Lord.Copy !req
283. I'm gonna become human.Copy !req
284. Never thought I'd use this.Copy !req
285. All the times I've wondered.Copy !req
286. - What does it do?
- Chameleon Arch.Copy !req
287. Rewrites my biology.Copy !req
288. It literally changes every single cell
in my body. I've set it to human.Copy !req
289. The Tardis will take care of everything.Copy !req
290. Invent a life story for me,
find me a setting and integrate.Copy !req
291. It can't do the same for you.
You'll just have to improvise.Copy !req
292. I should have just enough
residual awareness to let you in.Copy !req
293. Hold on, if you're going to rewrite
every cell, isn't it going to hurt?Copy !req
294. Oh, yeah. It'll hurt.Copy !req
295. Is this working?Copy !req
296. Martha, before I change,Copy !req
297. here's a list of instructions
for when I'm human-Copy !req
298. One, don't let me hurt anyone.Copy !req
299. We can't have that, but you know what
humans are like.Copy !req
300. Two, don't worry about the Tardis.Copy !req
301. I'll put it on emergency power so they
can't detect it. just let it hide away.Copy !req
302. Four... No.Copy !req
303. Wait a minute. Three, no getting
involved in big historical events.Copy !req
304. Four, you. Don't let me abandon you.Copy !req
305. And five...Copy !req
306. But there was a meteor, a shooting
star, what am I supposed to do then?Copy !req
307. And 23, if anything goes wrong,Copy !req
308. if they find us, Martha,
then you know what to do.Copy !req
309. Open the watch.Copy !req
310. Eveything I am is kept safe in there.Copy !req
311. I've put a perception filter on it so
the human me won't think anything of it.Copy !req
312. To him, it's just a watch.
But don't open it unless you have to.Copy !req
313. 'Cause once it's open,
then the Family will be able to find me.Copy !req
314. It's all down to you, Martha.
Your choice.Copy !req
315. Oh! And thank you.Copy !req
316. I wish you'd come back.Copy !req
317. You told me to come
and collect that book, sir.Copy !req
318. Good lad, yes, yes!Copy !req
319. The Definitive Account of Mafeking
by Aitchinson Price.Copy !req
320. Where did I put it?Copy !req
321. And I wanted a little word.
Your marks aren't quite good enough.Copy !req
322. I'm top 10 in my class, sir.Copy !req
323. Now, be honest, Timothy.
You should be the very top.Copy !req
324. You're a clever boy.
You seem to be hiding it.Copy !req
325. Where is that book?Copy !req
326. And I know why. Keeping your head low
avoids the mockery of your classmates.Copy !req
327. But no man should hide himself,
don't you think?Copy !req
328. - Yes, sir.
- You're clever.Copy !req
329. Time Lord.Copy !req
330. You should be proud of it. Use it.Copy !req
331. Time Lord.Copy !req
332. Timothy, hide us.Copy !req
333. The secret lies within.
I'm trapped. I'm caged.Copy !req
334. Inside the cold, in the dark, waiting.Copy !req
335. - Reach out, boy. Reach out.
- Always waiting.Copy !req
336. Fascinating details about the siege,
really quite remarkable.Copy !req
337. - Are you all right?
- Yes, sir. Fine, sir.Copy !req
338. Right, then. Good.Copy !req
339. And remember, use that brain of yours.Copy !req
340. The power of a Time Lord.Copy !req
341. You're really not looking yourself,
old chap. Anything bothering you?Copy !req
342. No, sir. Thank you, sir.Copy !req
343. You are not alone.
Keep me hidden.Copy !req
344. Burn with the light.
Burn and turn!Copy !req
345. Now, boys, come along now.Copy !req
346. Classes are ready...Copy !req
347. Come along, Jenkins.Copy !req
348. There is a trace,
but somehow scattered.Copy !req
349. The scent is confused.Copy !req
350. Nave/Thales; we 'd best arm ourselves.Copy !req
351. Activate the soldiers.Copy !req
352. That is my property!
And you are trespassing on my land!Copy !req
353. Come on, who's in there?Copy !req
354. Is it one of those idiot boys
from the school, is it? Eh?Copy !req
355. Come on. I suppose...Copy !req
356. Well, how did you...Copy !req
357. No! No! Help me!Copy !req
358. Help me!Copy !req
359. Concentrate.Copy !req
360. Hutchinson, excellent work.Copy !req
361. - Cease fire!
- Good day to you, Headmaster.Copy !req
362. Your crew's on fine form today,
Mr Smith.Copy !req
363. Excuse me, Headmaster.
We could do a lot better.Copy !req
364. Latimer's being deliberately shoddy.Copy !req
365. - I'm trying my best.
- You need to be better than the best.Copy !req
366. Those targets are tribesmen
from the Dark Continent.Copy !req
367. That's exactly the problem, sir.
They only have spears.Copy !req
368. Oh, clear me.Copy !req
369. Latimer takes it upon himself
to make us realise how wrong we all are.Copy !req
370. I hope, Latimer, that one dayCopy !req
371. you may have a just and proper war
in which to prove yourself.Copy !req
372. Now, resume firing.Copy !req
373. - Under the wire!
- Keep your heads down!Copy !req
374. One minute past the hour. It's now.Copy !req
375. Hutchinson, this is the time. It's now.Copy !req
376. Stoppage. Immediate action.Copy !req
377. Didn't I tell you, sir?
The stupid boy's useless.Copy !req
378. Permission to give Latimer
a beating, sir.Copy !req
379. - It's your class, Mr Smith.
- Permission granted.Copy !req
380. Right. Come with me, you little oik.Copy !req
381. Anything the matter, Baines?Copy !req
382. I thought... No, sir, nothing, sir.Copy !req
383. As you were, Mr Smith.Copy !req
384. Er, Pemberton, Smythe, Wicks, take post.Copy !req
385. Ah!Copy !req
386. Nurse Redfern.Copy !req
387. I'll give you back your journal
when next I see you.Copy !req
388. No, no, no, you don't have to.Copy !req
389. If you'll excuse me, Mr Smith,Copy !req
390. I was just thinking about the day
my husband was shot.Copy !req
391. His name was Oliver.
He died at the Battle of Spion Kop.Copy !req
392. We were childhood sweethearts.Copy !req
393. But, you see, I was angry
with the army for such a long time.Copy !req
394. And you still are.Copy !req
395. I find myself as part of that school,
watching boys learn how to kill.Copy !req
396. Don't you think discipline
is good for them?Copy !req
397. Does it have to be
such military discipline?Copy !req
398. If there's another war,
those boys won't find it so amusing.Copy !req
399. Well, Great Britain's at peace,
long may it reign.Copy !req
400. In your journal, in one of your stories,
you wrote about next year, 1914.Copy !req
401. It was just a dream.Copy !req
402. All those images of mud and wire.Copy !req
403. You told of a shadow. A shadow
falling across the entire world.Copy !req
404. Well, then, we can be thankful
it's not true.Copy !req
405. I'll admit, mankind doesn't need warfare
and bloodshed to prove itself.Copy !req
406. Everyday life can provide honour
and valour and...Copy !req
407. Let's hope that from now on this country
can find its heroes in smaller places.Copy !req
408. In the mostCopy !req
409. ordinary of...Copy !req
410. Of deeds.Copy !req
411. Are you all right?Copy !req
412. - Lucky.
- That was luck?Copy !req
413. Miss Redfern, might I invite you
to the village dance this eveningCopy !req
414. as my guest?Copy !req
415. You extraordinary man!Copy !req
416. Oh, it's all becoming clear now.
The Doctor is the man you'd like to be,Copy !req
417. doing impossible things
with cricket balls.Copy !req
418. Well, I discovered a talent,
that's certainly true.Copy !req
419. But the Doctor
has an eye for the ladies.Copy !req
420. - The devil!
- A girl at every fireplace.Copy !req
421. Ah! Now, there I have to protest, Joan.
That is hardly me.Copy !req
422. Says the man dancing with me tonight.Copy !req
423. That scarecrow's all askew.Copy !req
424. Ever the artist.
Where did you learn to draw?Copy !req
425. - Gallifrey.
- Is that in Ireland?Copy !req
426. - Yes, it must be.
- You're not Irish.Copy !req
427. Not at all, no. My father, Sidney,
was a watchmaker from NottinghamCopy !req
428. and my mother, Verity, was...Copy !req
429. - Well, she was a nurse, actually.
- Oh?Copy !req
430. - We make such good wives.
- Really? Right.Copy !req
431. Yes.Copy !req
432. Well, my work is done,
what do you think?Copy !req
433. Masterpiece.Copy !req
434. All sorts of skills today.Copy !req
435. Can I see?Copy !req
436. Oh, goodness. Do I look like that?Copy !req
437. Are you sure that's not me?Copy !req
438. No, it's certainly this page.
You like it?Copy !req
439. - You've made me far too beautiful.
- Well, that's how I see you.Copy !req
440. Widows aren't supposed to be beautiful.Copy !req
441. I think the world
would rather we stopped.Copy !req
442. Is that fair?Copy !req
443. That we stop?Copy !req
444. That's not fair at all.Copy !req
445. I've never, um...Copy !req
446. Martha, what have I told you
about entering unannounced?Copy !req
447. Wasn't on the list.Copy !req
448. Four, you. Don't let me abandon you.Copy !req
449. That's no good.Copy !req
450. What about the stuff you didn't tell me?
What about women?Copy !req
451. Oh, no, you didn't think of that.Copy !req
452. What the hell am I supposed to do, then?Copy !req
453. Thank you.Copy !req
454. You had to, didn't you?Copy !req
455. You had to go and
fall in love with a human.Copy !req
456. And it wasn't me.Copy !req
457. The darkness is coming.Copy !req
458. Keep me away
from the false and empty man.Copy !req
459. The last of the Time Lords,
the last of that wise and ancient race.Copy !req
460. Who's that playing silly beggars?
Nearly broke me neck.Copy !req
461. Who's that, then? Is that you, Saul?Copy !req
462. I don't understand.Copy !req
463. It's Mr Clark, isn't it?Copy !req
464. What have I done wrong?Copy !req
465. Nothing at all.Copy !req
466. In fact,Copy !req
467. you're just what we need, girl.Copy !req
468. She works at the school.Copy !req
469. And whatever's happening seems to be
centred around that establishment.Copy !req
470. The faintest of traces,
but they all lead back there.Copy !req
471. It's Baines, isn't it?Copy !req
472. This isn't very funny, sir.Copy !req
473. Just shut up, stop talking,
cease and desist. There's a good girl!Copy !req
474. Mother of mine is dying to meet you.Copy !req
475. And here she is.Copy !req
476. - Stop mocking me, sir!
- No!Copy !req
477. Mother of mine just needs a shape.Copy !req
478. We go through shapes so very fast.Copy !req
479. Yours is perfectly adequate.Copy !req
480. If a little grim.Copy !req
481. Mother of mine,Copy !req
482. embrace her.Copy !req
483. You look wonderful.Copy !req
484. You'd best give me some warning.
Um... Can you actually dance?Copy !req
485. Urn... I'm not certain.Copy !req
486. There's a surprise.Copy !req
487. Is there anything you're certain about?Copy !req
488. Yes. Yes.Copy !req
489. There you are. Come look what I've got.Copy !req
490. Mr Pool didn't want his afternoon tea,
so cook said I could have it.Copy !req
491. And there's enough for two.
What are you standing there for?Copy !req
492. - Are you all right?
- I must have a cold coming on.Copy !req
493. Problem is, I keep thinking about them,
but I don't know what to do.Copy !req
494. - Thinking about who?
- Mr Smith and Matron,Copy !req
495. 'cause it's never gonna last,
he's gonna leave in a few weeks.Copy !req
496. Why?Copy !req
497. It's like his contract comes to an end
and she's going to be heartbroken.Copy !req
498. - Leave for where?
- All sorts of places.Copy !req
499. Oh, I wish I could tell you, Jenny,
but it's complicated.Copy !req
500. - In what way?
- I just can't.Copy !req
501. It sounds so interesting.
Tell me. Tell me now.Copy !req
502. - Would you like some tea?
- Yes, thanks.Copy !req
503. I could put a nice bit of gravy
in the pot and some mutton.Copy !req
504. Or sardines and jam, how about that?Copy !req
505. I like the sound of that.Copy !req
506. Right. Hold on a tick.Copy !req
507. - They've found us!
- This is ridiculous.Copy !req
508. - Martha, I've warned you.
- They've found us and I've seen them!Copy !req
509. They look like people, like us,
like normal.Copy !req
510. I'm sorry, but you've got
to open the watch.Copy !req
511. Where is it?Copy !req
512. Oh, my God! Where's it gone?
Where's the watch?Copy !req
513. What are you talking about?Copy !req
514. You had a watch,
a fob watch, right there.Copy !req
515. Did I? I don't remember.Copy !req
516. I can't think
what concern it is of yours.Copy !req
517. But we need it. Oh, my God, Doctor.Copy !req
518. We're hiding from aliens
and they've got JennyCopy !req
519. and they've possessed her
or copied her or something,Copy !req
520. and you've got to tell me,
where's the watch?Copy !req
521. Oh, I see.Copy !req
522. Cultural differences.Copy !req
523. It must be so confusing for you.Copy !req
524. Martha, this is what we call a story.Copy !req
525. Oh, you complete...Copy !req
526. This is not you. This is 1913.Copy !req
527. Good. This is 1913.Copy !req
528. I'm sorry, I'm really sorry,
but I've got to snap you out of this.Copy !req
529. Martha!Copy !req
530. Wake up! You're coming back
to the Tardis with me.Copy !req
531. How dare you! I'm not going anywhere
with an insane servant.Copy !req
532. Martha, you are dismissed. You will
leave these premises immediately.Copy !req
533. Now, get out!Copy !req
534. The nerve of it! The absolute cheek!Copy !req
535. You think I'm a fantasist,
what about her?Copy !req
536. The funny thing is,
you did have a fob watch.Copy !req
537. Right there. Don't you remember?Copy !req
538. Oh! Sorry!Copy !req
539. Sorry!Copy !req
540. Martha?Copy !req
541. Not now, Tim, I'm busy!Copy !req
542. Mr Smith?Copy !req
543. No one home.Copy !req
544. The maid
was definitely hiding something.Copy !req
545. A secret around this Mr Smith.Copy !req
546. We both scented him, though,
he was plain and simply human.Copy !req
547. But maybe he knows something.Copy !req
548. Where is he?Copy !req
549. She's infatuated.
You're a dangerous man.Copy !req
550. - You've taken my arm in public.
- I'm very scared.Copy !req
551. Spare a penny
for the veterans of the Crimea, sir?Copy !req
552. Yes, of course. There you are, then.Copy !req
553. Ladies and gentlemen,
please take your partners for a waltz.Copy !req
554. - You can dance.
- Quite surprised myself.Copy !req
555. Oh, I say! Sorry.Copy !req
556. I think this might help.Copy !req
557. That makes it easy, Son of mine,Copy !req
558. because Daughter of mine's
already there.Copy !req
559. We've been invited to the dance.Copy !req
560. Oh, staff entrance I think, miss.Copy !req
561. Yeah, well, think again, mate.Copy !req
562. Please don't. Not again.Copy !req
563. He's different from any other man
you've ever met, right?Copy !req
564. Yes.Copy !req
565. And sometimes he says
these strange things,Copy !req
566. like people and places
you've never heard of, yeah?Copy !req
567. But it's deeper than that.Copy !req
568. Sometimes when
you look in his eyes, you know,Copy !req
569. you just know
that there's something else in there.Copy !req
570. Something hidden.Copy !req
571. Right behind the eyes,
something hidden away.Copy !req
572. - In the dark.
- I don't know what you mean.Copy !req
573. Yes, you do.Copy !req
574. I don't mean to be rude,Copy !req
575. but the awful thing is
it doesn't even matter what you think.Copy !req
576. But you're nice and you're lucky.Copy !req
577. And I just wanted to say sorry
for what I'm about to do.Copy !req
578. Oh, now, really, Martha,
this is getting out of hand.Copy !req
579. I must insist that you leave.Copy !req
580. Do you know what this is?Copy !req
581. Name it.Copy !req
582. Go on, name it.Copy !req
583. John, what is that silly thing?Copy !req
584. John?Copy !req
585. You're not John Smith.Copy !req
586. You're called the Doctor.Copy !req
587. The man in your journal, he's real.Copy !req
588. He's you.Copy !req
589. Evening, all! Spare a penny, sir?Copy !req
590. I didn't spare you.Copy !req
591. You will be silent!Copy !req
592. All of you!Copy !req
593. I said, silent!Copy !req
594. Mr Clark, what's going on?Copy !req
595. Mr Smith, everything I told you,
just forget it.Copy !req
596. Don't say anything.Copy !req
597. We asked for silence!Copy !req
598. Now then,Copy !req
599. we have a few questions for Mr Smith.Copy !req
600. No, better than that.Copy !req
601. The teacher, he's the Doctor.Copy !req
602. I heard them talking.Copy !req
603. You took human form.Copy !req
604. Of course I'm human!
I was born human, as were you, Baines!Copy !req
605. And Jenny and you, Mr Clark.Copy !req
606. What is going on? This is madness!Copy !req
607. Ooh, and a human brain, too.
Simple, thick and dull.Copy !req
608. But he's no good like this.Copy !req
609. We need a Time Lord.Copy !req
610. Easily done.Copy !req
611. - Change back.
- I don't know what you're talking about.Copy !req
612. Change back!Copy !req
613. I literally do not know...Copy !req
614. - Get off me!
- She's your friend, isn't she?Copy !req
615. Doesn't this scare you enough
to change back?Copy !req
616. - I don't know what you mean!
- Wait a minute.Copy !req
617. The maid told me about
Smith and the matron.Copy !req
618. - That woman, there.
- Then let's have you!Copy !req
619. Have you enjoyed it, Doctor?
Being human?Copy !req
620. Has it taught you wonderful things?
Are you better, richer, wiser?Copy !req
621. Then let's see you answer this.Copy !req
622. Which one of them
do you want us to kill?Copy !req
623. Maid or matron?Copy !req
624. Your friendCopy !req
625. or your lover?Copy !req
626. Your choice.Copy !req
627. We are the Family of Blood.Copy !req
628. Save us.Copy !req
629. I am not the Doctor.Copy !req
630. He's like the night
and the storm and the heart of the sun.Copy !req
631. He's ancient and forever.Copy !req
632. He burns at the centre of time
and he can see the turn of the universe.Copy !req
