1. Yes. Not very pleasant. What's he holding?

2. No! We don't want to attract attention.

3. Do you know what's happening here? Do you think we really killed him?

4. It doesn't matter. You know too much. You die.

5. We know more than you think.

6. Vozravchayetes v Norwegioo s sakrovischem.

7. - Return to Norway with the treasure. - Kill them, Prozorov.

8. No, we take them back to Captain Sorin.

9. "I am the only one left alive now."

10. "I raise these stones to my wife Astrid."

11. "May she forgive my sin."

12. "The day grows dark, and I sense the evil curse"

13. "rising from the sea."

14. "I know now what the curse of Fenric seeks."

15. "The treasures from the silk lands in the east."

16. "I've heard the treasures whisper in my dreams."

17. "I've heard the magic words that will release great powers."

18. "I shall bury the treasures forever."

19. "Tonight I shall die,"

20. "and the words die with me."

21. If, if you attack the camp now, you'll walk straight into a trap.

22. And if you stay here, you'll die just like your comrade.

23. And if I let you go, you betray us.

24. It's the only way.

25. It's the only way to destroy the evil that's killing your men.

26. - (SOLDIER WAILS) - His mind's in pieces.

27. - What's happened to him? - Whatever killed his comrade, he's seen it.

28. What was it? What did you see? Tell us.

29. - Come on, this is useless. - Vershinin.

30. Deep down, think back. Maidens' Point, the undercurrents.

31. - What did you see? - (COUGHS)

32. He'll never speak again.

33. - We delay our attack until you both return. - Kapitan, this is madness.

34. We play for high stakes. Victory goes to those who take the greatest risk. Go!

35. Why didn't he translate the final inscription?

36. It's always the family idiot that takes the cloth.

37. - I don't like it down here. - Well, then go away.

38. Well, don't you feel the cold? It's like winter.

39. It's most unsuitable for an invalid.

40. - Oh, shut up, Crane. - Oh, come on. Let's have you back in the warm.

41. (STAMMERING) You stupid woman...

42. Language, Dr Judson! There's a lady present.

43. Ooh, I love men in uniform!

44. Don't they look strong?

45. Why do I feel there's something different about this place?

46. - Yeah, it doesn't even look like a church. - What do you mean?

47. Well, from the outside it looks more like a small fortress.

48. No, no, no, no! Different since we were last here.

49. Oh.

50. I think it's about time we had a proper look at those inscriptions.

51. Use the Ultima Machine.

52. Use the machine to translate the inscriptions.

53. - But what about the German ciphers? - Use it!

54. Can you hear noises from behind the walls?

55. - Can't hear a thing. - I definitely heard them.

56. Ace, come here. Look at that.

57. What do you notice?

58. This one's a slightly different alphabet to the rest.

59. Yes.

60. And uh... It uses fewer characters.

61. - And? - And...

62. That means it's older than all the rest.

63. - And? - And uh...

64. - I don't know. - And it wasn't here this morning!

65. Oh, yeah!

66. Hang about. These inscriptions are a thousand years old.

67. - (FOOTSTEPS) - Quick! Hide!

68. Where is he?

69. - Those noises you heard this morning. - A secret door?

70. - Hmm... - Yeah, but I'm sure the noises

71. came from over this side.

72. What happens if you do find something?

73. Shh.

74. - Professor? - Ace.

75. - Professor? - Ace!

76. I think this is what you're looking for, Doctor.

77. When I was a child, I spake as a child,

78. I understood as a child,

79. I thought as a child.

80. When I became a man, I put away childish things.

81. Now abideth faith, hope,

82. love.

83. These three.

84. And the greatest of these is...

85. (WHISPERS) No shooting.

86. - Has anyone seen us? - It's as quiet as the grave.

87. Leave the empty drums. Just take the valuable equipment.

88. A laboratory!

89. Behold, the end of the war.

90. So, this is what brought you here. A natural source of lethal poisons.

91. The curse of Fenric.

92. Once the Nazis see what our planes are dropping on their cities...

93. - But... You can't! - It'll mean the end of the war.

94. Save hundreds of thousands of lives.

95. More horrible than the Well of Hvergelmir.

96. - What did you say? - The Well of Hvergelmir,

97. deep beneath the ground, where broods of serpents

98. spew their venom over the roots of the Great Ash Tree.

99. The Great Ash Tree. The soul of all the earth.

100. - Professor. - Shh.

101. We have seen it, Doctor.

102. You and I.

103. We have seen hell.

104. Come, I'll show you it all.

105. - What's he on about? - Norse mythology.

106. It seems I've persuaded him that I'm on his side.

107. You should have seen him. With his bare hands.

108. When it comes to killing, the sarge is an expert.

109. Prozorov.

110. These things have to be done.

111. - Professor? - Hmm?

112. What's wrong with the vicar?

113. - No girls. Leave her here. - What? You're beginning to aggravate me.

114. Don't antagonise him, Ace. You'd better stay here.

115. - Professor... - Only for a short time.

116. I've got to find out what's going on,

117. and you go find out what's wrong with Mr Wainwright.

118. - All right. - Coming, Commander.

119. Give me an hour.

120. Funny church, this, isn't it?

121. I was just remembering when I was a child.

122. My father was the vicar here then.

123. It seemed such a warm, friendly place in those days.

124. Things always look different when you're a child.

125. Now I stand in the church every Sunday. I see all the faces looking up at me,

126. waiting for me to give them something to believe in.

127. Don't you believe in anything?

128. I used to believe there was good in the world, hope for the future.

129. The future's not so bad.

130. Have faith in me.

131. Ah, Millington, I need the central rotor unit unlocking.

132. - The Ultima Machine. - Oh, of course!

133. You haven't seen it, have you?

134. A completely automatic computing machine, the most advanced in the world.

135. - Remarkable for the 1940s. - This is just the bait.

136. - For the Germans? - Russians.

137. - But they're your allies. - After the war,

138. when they're no longer allies.

139. This is what the Russians want. The mind of the Ultima Machine.

140. More than a thousand combinations an hour,

141. with automatic negative checking.

142. And we are going to let the Russians steal it.

143. Orders from Whitehall.

144. Look inside, Doctor. Look deep inside.

145. You will burn in the everlasting fires of hell!

146. You wicked, evil girls!

147. - Just because you've never been swimming. - You have black hearts.

148. There's no love in heaven or earth for you!

149. Nothing for you but pitiless damnation for the rest of your lives!

150. Think on it!

151. A demonstration, Doctor.

152. This small capsule contains just a few drops of diluted toxin.

153. No, don't!

154. Just think what a bomb full could do to a city like Dresden or Moscow.

155. It's inhuman.

156. It could mean the end of the war.

157. And Whitehall thinks that Moscow is careless enough to let you

158. detonate one of those things inside the Kremlin?

159. Oh, but that's the beauty of it, Doctor.

160. We won't detonate it.

161. They'll do it themselves.

162. They'll use the machine to decrypt our ciphers,

163. but Dr Judson has programmed it to self-destruct

164. when it tries to decrypt a particular word.

165. And once the political climate is appropriate,

166. we will include the word in one of our ciphers.

167. - And the word is? - What else could it be, Doctor?

168. Love.

169. - What was that? - (THUD)

170. - Is this ours? - Is it marked "Government Property"?

171. - No. - Nothing to do with us, then. Leave it.

172. Right, let's get this sealed up.

173. I don't care if I've nothing to wear!

174. Ah!

175. It's so warm and peaceful.

176. Here, Philly. What's that?

177. - What is it? - It's a sort of mist.

178. - So what? Who cares? It's warm in the water. - Yeah.

179. (SCREAMING) Philly?

180. Yes?

181. Thought you'd like to know, sir, they've finished closing down operations

182. over at the church.

183. Good. Tell me, they didn't find anything unusual, did they?

184. Not to my knowledge, sir.

185. I can't take any more risks.

186. I want all radio transmitters and outside telephone lines disabling.

187. - That may attract attention, sir. - Do it.

188. Sir.

189. And if there are any chess sets in the camp,

190. I want them burnt.

191. - Chess sets? - Burnt!

192. Sir.

193. Sorry, girls, Commander's orders. No more chess sets.

194. Don't you find the Commander's orders

195. a little peculiar sometimes, soldier?

196. Peculiar or not, orders is orders.

197. Come on, girls, let's have your chess set.

198. Ah. (CHIRRUPS)

199. - What are you going to do with her? - Oh, something'll turn up.

200. One of the girls has gone to ask her sister if Audrey can stay

201. with her for a few days till I sort something out.

202. Do you have any family yourself?

203. - I don't know. - Oh, I'm sorry. It's the war, isn't it?

204. - Must be terrible not knowing. - Yes.

205. You haven't seen Ace at all? I'm getting a little worried.

206. Quiet!

207. Now, let's see what lies encrypted in these carvings, hmm?

208. "Let the chains of Fenric shatter."

209. Even with an alphabet of more than a thousand years old,

210. the Ultima Machine can reveal its meaning.

211. It can translate it, but who knows what it might mean.

212. Look.

213. Yes. A man.

214. Are you looking at us?

215. Yes. He's watching us.

216. You've got to come into the water with us.

217. Yes. You've got to come into the water.

218. - It's warm. - Blood-warm.

219. Nobody's forcing him. Nobody ever forces you to come into the water.

220. But everybody wants to.

221. Deep down, everybody wants to come into the water.

222. Come on. Come and play with us.

223. Oh, yes. Yes, I've known Millington since before my accident.

224. Hiya!

225. Ah, good. Oh, I need to have a word with your two young friends.

226. - Jean and Phyllis? - Yes.

227. - They'll be with the old dragon. - Good.

228. Back in a mo. I'm just going to requisition some transport.

229. Bags I drive!

230. Shut up.

231. I said, shut up!

232. - I know what it is. - I am trying to work.

233. - I know what the inscription means. - Yes, yes, I already know.

234. "Let the chains of Fenric shatter."

235. - I already know that. - No, no, no. It's a logic diagram.

236. - What? - Look.

237. This is a logic diagram for the flip-flop thingy, right?

238. Mmm-hmm.

239. And this is a logic diagram for something else.

240. But it's so complex.

241. That's because it's not for a small thing like this.

242. It's for a computer.

243. Crane, take me to the decrypt room!

244. And the half-time score...

245. Perivale, 600 million. Rest of the universe, nil.

246. No!

247. No, I beg you! No! No!

248. (SOFTLY) Hello? Anybody home?

249. Professor.

250. Looks like the one at Maidens' Point, completely drained of blood.

251. I know who you are.

252. You've always known us.

253. But vampires are just superstition. Why?

254. We have black hearts. We were lost on the day we were born.

255. That's not true. No one is lost.

256. Everyone is lost.

257. No further.

258. This is holy.

259. - It will destroy you. - Objects can't harm us. It's human belief,

260. and you stopped believing when the bombs started falling.

261. - I'm not frightened of German bombs. - Not German bombs. British.

262. On German cities. British bombs killing German children.

263. No.

264. (SCREAMING) No!

265. Stop! - What's happened to you? What are you doing?

266. You should have come into the water with us, then we'd have been together.

267. Go! Go!

268. We go...

269. But we'll return for you, Wainwright.

270. - This is it, Judson. - A little respect for the wheelchair,

271. please, Commander. He's an invalid.

272. I'm not an invalid,

273. I'm a cripple. I'm also a genius. So shut up, the pair of you.

274. All that remains is the flask. The machine can unlock its secrets.

275. Now, then, Millington.

276. - Let's see, shall we? - Yes. Quick.

277. We must tell Commander Millington.

278. No, that's exactly what we won't do.

279. He'll just go around shooting everything.

280. No, as long as Dr Judson doesn't work out what the inscription is,

281. it will keep them out of harm's way.

282. - He's a typical blinkered scientist. - Oh, no!

283. - You should have told me. - Quick! We'd better stop them!

284. - What does it mean? - I don't know!

285. - You built the damn machine! - It's running at four times maximum speed!

286. It's impossible!

287. - Stop the machine! - Get out of here!

288. - You've got to stop the machine! - I can't!

289. Ace, the power!

290. - It's stuck! - Pull it! Pull it!

291. I can't!

292. You're too late, Doctor!
