After chasing an unexplained capsule through time, the TARDIS lands in London, during an air raid. Rose investigates when a small child wearing a gasmask, standing on a rooftop, continuously calls out for his mummy. After floating above the city on a barrage balloon, Rose is swept off her feet by another time traveller – Captain Jack Harkness. Meanwhile, The Doctor follows a teenaged girl to a meeting of the homeless children of the Blitz. Here, the child in the gasmask is terrorising them with a parade of strange events, constantly asking for his mother.

413. Identical, all of them, right down to the scar on the back of the hand.

414. How did this happen? How did it start?

415. When that bomb dropped, there was just one victim.

417. His injuries were truly dreadful.

418. By the following morning every doctor and nurse who had treated him,

419. who had touched him, had those exact same injuries.

420. By the next morning, every patient on the same ward, the exact same injuries.

421. Within a week, the entire hospital.

422. Physical injuries as plague.

423. Can you explain that?

424. What would you say was the cause of death?

425. - The head trauma. - No.

426. - Asphyxiation? - No.

427. - The collapse of the chest cavity. - No.

428. All right, what was the cause of death?

429. There wasn't one.

430. They're not dead.
