5. She was so full of life,Copy !req
6. I can't believe she's gone.Copy !req
7. Not gone, mr redpath, sir.Copy !req
8. Merely sleeping.Copy !req
9. May I have a moment?Copy !req
10. Yes, of course.Copy !req
11. I shall be in the next room
should you require anything.Copy !req
12. Oh, no!Copy !req
13. No!Copy !req
14. Gwyneth!Copy !req
15. Get down here now!
We've got another one!Copy !req
16. Hold that one down!Copy !req
17. I'm holding this one down!Copy !req
18. Well,
hold them both down!Copy !req
19. It's not gonna work.Copy !req
20. Oi! I promised you
a time machine, and that's what you get.Copy !req
21. Now, we've seen the future,
let's have a look at the past.Copy !req
22. 1860! How does 1860 sound?Copy !req
23. What happened in 1860?Copy !req
24. I don't know, let's find out!
Hold on, here we go!Copy !req
25. Gwyneth!Copy !req
26. Where are you, girl?Copy !req
27. Gwyneth!Copy !req
28. - Where've you been? I was shouting.
- (Horse neighing)Copy !req
29. Been in the stable, sir,
breaking the ice for Samson.Copy !req
30. Well, get back in there
and harness him up!Copy !req
31. Whatever for, sir?Copy !req
32. The stiffs are
getting lively again.Copy !req
33. Mr redpath's grandmother,
she's up and on her feet,Copy !req
34. and out there somewhere,
on the streets, we've got to find her.Copy !req
35. Mr sneed, for shame,
how many more times? It's ungodly!Copy !req
36. Don't look at me
like it's my fault.Copy !req
37. Now, come on. Hurry up!
She was 86. She can't have got far.Copy !req
38. What about mr redpath?
Did you deal with him?Copy !req
39. No.Copy !req
40. She did.Copy !req
41. That's awful, sir.Copy !req
42. I know it's not my place, and please
forgive me for talking out of turn, sir.Copy !req
43. But this is getting beyond now.Copy !req
44. Something terrible is happening in this
house, and we've got to get help.Copy !req
45. And we will.Copy !req
46. As soon as I get that dead old woman locked
up, and safe and sound.Copy !req
47. Now, stop prevaricating, girl.Copy !req
48. Get the hearse ready.
We're going bodysnatching.Copy !req
49. Blimey!
Telling me! You all right?Copy !req
50. Yeah, I think so.
Nothing broken.Copy !req
51. Did we make it? Where are we?Copy !req
52. I did it! Give the man a medal.Copy !req
53. Earth, Naples,
December 24th, 1860.Copy !req
54. That's so weird. It's Christmas.Copy !req
55. All yours.Copy !req
56. But it's like...
Think about it, though.Copy !req
57. Christmas, 1860,
happens once, just once,Copy !req
58. and then it's gone,
it's finished, it'll never happen again.Copy !req
59. Except for you.Copy !req
60. You can go back and see
days that are dead and gone.Copy !req
61. A hundred thousand sunsets ago.Copy !req
62. No wonder you never stay still.Copy !req
63. Not a bad life.Copy !req
64. Better with two.Copy !req
65. Come on then!Copy !req
66. Oi, oi, oi!
Where do you think you're going?Copy !req
67. 1860.Copy !req
68. Go out there dressed like that,Copy !req
69. you'll start a riot, barbarella.Copy !req
70. There's a wardrobe
through there,Copy !req
71. first left, second right,
third on the left, go straight ahead,Copy !req
72. under the stairs, past the bins, fifth
door on your left. Hurry up!Copy !req
73. Not a sign.Copy !req
74. Where is she?Copy !req
75. She's vanished
into the ether, sir. Where can she be?Copy !req
76. You tell me, girl.Copy !req
77. What do you mean?Copy !req
78. Gwyneth, you know full well.Copy !req
79. No, sir, I can't.Copy !req
80. Use the sight.Copy !req
81. It's not right, sir.Copy !req
82. Find the old lady
or you're dismissed.Copy !req
83. Now.Copy !req
84. Look inside, girl.Copy !req
85. Look deep. Where is she?Copy !req
86. She's lost, sir.Copy !req
87. She's so alone.Copy !req
88. Oh, my lord.
So many strange things in her head.Copy !req
89. But where?Copy !req
90. She is excited.Copy !req
91. About tonight.Copy !req
92. Before she passed on,
she was going to see him.Copy !req
93. - Who's him?
- The great man.Copy !req
94. All the way from London,
the great, great man.Copy !req
95. - (Knocking on door)
- Mr dickens? Mr dickens?Copy !req
96. Excuse me, sir,
mr dickens, this is your call.Copy !req
97. Are you quite well, sir?Copy !req
98. Splendid. Splendid. Sorry!Copy !req
99. Time you were on, sir.Copy !req
100. Absolutely.
I was just brooding...Copy !req
101. Christmas Eve.
Not the best of times to be alone.Copy !req
102. Did no one travel with you, sir?Copy !req
103. No lady wife waiting out front?Copy !req
104. I'm afraid not.Copy !req
105. You can have mine if you want.Copy !req
106. Oh, I wouldn't dare.Copy !req
107. I've, I've been rather,
let's say, clumsy, with family matters.Copy !req
108. Thank god I'm too old
to cause any more trouble.Copy !req
109. You speak as if
it's all over, sir.Copy !req
110. Oh, it's never over!Copy !req
111. On and on I go.Copy !req
112. The same old show.Copy !req
113. I'm like a ghost, condemned
to repeat myself through all eternity.Copy !req
114. It's never too late, sir,
you could always think up some new turns.Copy !req
115. No, I can't.Copy !req
116. Even my imagination grows stale.Copy !req
117. I'm an old man, perhaps I've
thought everything I'll ever think.Copy !req
118. Still. The lure of
the limelight's as potent as a pipe, eh?Copy !req
119. On with the motley.Copy !req
120. - Blimey!
- Don't laugh.Copy !req
121. You look beautiful.Copy !req
122. - Considering.
- Considering what?Copy !req
123. That you're human.Copy !req
124. I think that's a compliment.
Aren't you gonna change?Copy !req
125. I've changed my jumper! Come on.Copy !req
126. You stay there,
you've done this before.Copy !req
127. This is mine.Copy !req
128. Ready for this?Copy !req
129. Here we go. History.Copy !req
130. She's in there, sir,
I'm certain of it.Copy !req
131. Right.Copy !req
132. I got the flight a bit wrong.Copy !req
133. - I don't care.
- It's not 1860, it's 1869.Copy !req
134. - I don't care.
- And it's not Naples.Copy !req
135. - I don't care.
- It's Cardiff.Copy !req
136. Right.Copy !req
137. Now, it is a fact
that there was nothing particular at allCopy !req
138. about the knocker
on the door of this house.Copy !req
139. But let any man
explain to me, if he can,Copy !req
140. how it happened that scrooge
having his key in the lock of the door,Copy !req
141. saw in the knocker,Copy !req
142. without it undergoing
any intermediate process of change,Copy !req
143. not a knocker,
but Marley's face!Copy !req
144. Marley's face!Copy !req
145. It looked at scroogeCopy !req
146. as Marley used to look.Copy !req
147. It looked like...Copy !req
148. Oh, my lord...Copy !req
149. It looked like that!Copy !req
150. What phantasmagoria is this?Copy !req
151. That's more like it.Copy !req
152. Stay in your seats,
I, I beg you!Copy !req
153. It is a lantern show, trickery!Copy !req
154. There she is, sir!Copy !req
155. I can see that!Copy !req
156. Whole bloomin' world
can see that!Copy !req
157. Fantastic!Copy !req
158. Did you see where it came from?Copy !req
159. The wag reveals
himself, does he?Copy !req
160. I trust you're satisfied, sir!Copy !req
161. Oi! Leave her alone.Copy !req
162. - Doctor! I'll get them.
- Be careful!Copy !req
163. Did it say anything?
Can it speak? I'm the doctor, by the way.Copy !req
164. Doctor? You look
more like a navvy.Copy !req
165. What's wrong with this jumper?Copy !req
166. - What are you doing?
- Oh! It's a tragedy, miss.Copy !req
167. Don't worry yourself,
me and the master will deal with it.Copy !req
168. Fact is, this poor lady
has been taken with a brain fever.Copy !req
169. We have to get her
to the infirmary.Copy !req
170. She's cold. She's dead.Copy !req
171. Oh, my god,
what did you do to her?Copy !req
172. - What did you do that for?
- She's seen too much!Copy !req
173. Get her in the hearse! Legs!Copy !req
174. Gas.Copy !req
175. It's made of gas.Copy !req
176. Rose! You're not
escaping me, sir!Copy !req
177. What do you know about
that hob-goblin? Hmm?Copy !req
178. Projection on glass,
I suppose. Who put you up to it?Copy !req
179. Yeah, mate, not now, thanks.Copy !req
180. Oi! You! Follow that hearse!Copy !req
181. - Can't do that, sir.
- Why not?Copy !req
182. I'll tell you why not.
I'll give you a very good reason why not.Copy !req
183. Because this is my coach.Copy !req
184. Well, get in, then!Copy !req
185. Move!Copy !req
186. - Come on! You're losing them!
- Everything in order, mr dickens?Copy !req
187. - No, it is not!
- What did he say?Copy !req
188. Let me say this first.
I am not without a sense of humour...Copy !req
189. - Dickens? Charles dickens?
- Yes.Copy !req
190. - Yes!
- The Charles dickens?Copy !req
191. Should I remove
the gentleman, sir?Copy !req
192. Charles dickens!
You're brilliant, you are!Copy !req
193. Completely 100% brilliant.
I've read them all.Copy !req
194. Great expectations.
Oliver twist...Copy !req
195. - What's the other one, the one with the ghost?
- Christmas Carol?Copy !req
196. No, the one with the trains.
The signal-man, that's it. Terrifying!Copy !req
197. The best short story
ever written!Copy !req
198. - You're a genius.
- Do you want me to get rid of him, sir?Copy !req
199. Uh, no, I think he can stay.Copy !req
200. Honestly, Charles...
Can I call you Charles? I'm such a big fan.Copy !req
201. Uh, you're a what? A big what?Copy !req
202. Fan. Number one fan, that's me!Copy !req
203. How exactly are you a "fan"?Copy !req
204. In what way do you
resemble a means of keeping oneself cool?Copy !req
205. No, it means fanatic.
Devoted to. Mind you, I've gotta say,Copy !req
206. that American bit in
Martin chuzzlewit, what's that about?Copy !req
207. Was that just padding or what?
I mean it's rubbish, that bit.Copy !req
208. I thought you said
you were my fan.Copy !req
209. Oh, well,
if you can't take criticism...Copy !req
210. Do the death of little Nell.
It cracks me up. No! Sorry!Copy !req
211. Forget about that.
Come on! Faster!Copy !req
212. Who exactly is in that hearse?Copy !req
213. My friend. She's only 19.
It's my fault.Copy !req
214. She's in my care,
and now she's in danger.Copy !req
215. Why are we wasting my time
talking about dry old books?Copy !req
216. This is much more
important. Driver!Copy !req
217. - Be swift! The chase is on!
- Yes, sir!Copy !req
218. - Attaboy, Charlie.
- Nobody calls me Charlie.Copy !req
219. - The ladies do.
- How do you know that?Copy !req
220. I told you!
I'm your number one...Copy !req
221. Number one fan. I know.Copy !req
222. The poor girl's
still alive, sir,Copy !req
223. what are we going to
do with her?Copy !req
224. I don't know!Copy !req
225. I didn't plan
any of this, did I?Copy !req
226. Is it my fault
if the dead won't stay dead?Copy !req
227. Then whose fault is it, sir?Copy !req
228. Why is this happening to us?Copy !req
229. I did the bishop a favour once.Copy !req
230. Made his nephew
look like a cherubCopy !req
231. even though he'd been
a fortnight in the Weir.Copy !req
232. Hey, perhaps he'll do us
an exorcism on the cheap!Copy !req
233. Say I'm not in.
Tell 'em we're closed.Copy !req
234. Just, just, get rid of 'em.Copy !req
235. I'm sorry, sir. We're closed.Copy !req
236. Nonsense. Since when
did an undertaker keep office hours?Copy !req
237. The dead don't die
on schedule, I demand to see your master.Copy !req
238. He's not in, sir.Copy !req
239. Don't lie to me, child,
summon the master!Copy !req
240. I'm awfully sorry, mr dickens,
but the master is indisposed.Copy !req
241. Having trouble with your gas?Copy !req
242. What the Shakespeare
is going on?Copy !req
243. Are you all right?Copy !req
244. You're kidding me, yeah?
You're just kidding.Copy !req
245. You are kidding me, aren't you?Copy !req
246. Okay, not kidding.Copy !req
247. You're not allowed inside, sir.Copy !req
248. There's something
inside the walls.Copy !req
249. The gas pipes.Copy !req
250. Something's living
inside the gas.Copy !req
251. Let me out! Open the door!Copy !req
252. - That's her!
- Please, let me out!Copy !req
253. How dare you, sir!
This is my house.Copy !req
254. I told you...Copy !req
255. Let me out,
somebody open the door!Copy !req
256. Open the door!Copy !req
257. I think this is my dance.Copy !req
258. It's a prank. Must be.
We're under some mesmeric influence.Copy !req
259. No we're not, the dead are walking.Copy !req
260. - Hi.
- Hi. Who's your friend?Copy !req
261. Charles dickens.Copy !req
262. - Okay.
- My name's the doctor.Copy !req
263. Who are you, then?
What do you want?Copy !req
264. Failing! Open the rift.
We're dying.Copy !req
265. Trapped in this form.Copy !req
266. Cannot sustain. Help us.Copy !req
267. First of all you drug me,
then you kidnap me,Copy !req
268. and don't think
I didn't feel your handsCopy !req
269. having a quick wander,
you dirty old man.Copy !req
270. I won't be spoken to like this.Copy !req
271. Then you sent me
in a room full of zombies!Copy !req
272. And if that ain't enough,
you swan off and leave me to die!Copy !req
273. So come on, talk!Copy !req
274. It's not my fault,
it's this house!Copy !req
275. It always had a reputation.Copy !req
276. Haunted.Copy !req
277. But I never had much bother until about
three months back, and then the stiffs...Copy !req
278. The, um,Copy !req
279. the dear departed
started getting restless.Copy !req
280. Tommyrot!Copy !req
281. You witnessed it!Copy !req
282. Can't keep
the beggars down, sir.Copy !req
283. They walk.Copy !req
284. And it's the queerest thing,
but they hang onto scraps...Copy !req
285. Two sugars, sir,
just how you like it.Copy !req
286. One old fellow
who used to be a sextonCopy !req
287. almost walked into his
own memorial service.Copy !req
288. Just like the old lady
going to your performance, sir,Copy !req
289. just as she planned.Copy !req
290. Morbid fancy.Copy !req
291. Oh, Charles, you were there.Copy !req
292. I saw nothing but an illusion.Copy !req
293. If you're going to deny it,
don't waste my time, just shut up.Copy !req
294. What about the gas?Copy !req
295. That's new, sir.
I never seen anything like that.Copy !req
296. Means it's getting stronger,
the rift's getting widerCopy !req
297. and something's
sneaking through.Copy !req
298. - What's the rift?
- A weak point in time and space.Copy !req
299. A connection between
this place and another.Copy !req
300. That's the cause of
ghost stories, most of the time.Copy !req
301. That's how I got
the house so cheap,Copy !req
302. stories going back generations.Copy !req
303. Echoes in the dark.
Queer songs in the air.Copy !req
304. And this feeling, like a shadowCopy !req
305. passing over your soul.Copy !req
306. Mind you, truth be told,
it's been good for business,Copy !req
307. just what people expect from
a gloomy old trade like mine.Copy !req
308. Impossible!Copy !req
309. Checking for strings?Copy !req
310. Wires... perhaps.Copy !req
311. There must be some
mechanism behind this fraud.Copy !req
312. Oh, come on, Charles.Copy !req
313. All right, I shouldn't have
told you to shut up. I'm sorry.Copy !req
314. But you've got one of
the best minds in the world.Copy !req
315. You saw those gas creatures.Copy !req
316. I cannot accept that.Copy !req
317. And what does
the human body do when it decomposes?Copy !req
318. It breaks down and produces gas.Copy !req
319. Perfect home
for these gas things.Copy !req
320. They can slip inside
and use it as a vehicle,Copy !req
321. - just like your driver and his coach.
- Stop it!Copy !req
322. Can it be that
I have the world entirely wrong?Copy !req
323. Not wrong.
There's just more to learn.Copy !req
324. I've always
railed against the fantasists!Copy !req
325. Oh, I loved an illusion
as much as the next man,Copy !req
326. revelled in them, but that's
exactly what they were, illusions.Copy !req
327. The real world
is something else.Copy !req
328. I dedicated myself to that.
Injustices,Copy !req
329. the great social causes.Copy !req
330. I hoped that
I was a force for good.Copy !req
331. Now, you tell me
that the real worldCopy !req
332. is a realm of spectres
and Jack-o'lanterns.Copy !req
333. In which case...Copy !req
334. Have I wasted my
brief span here, doctor?Copy !req
335. Has it all been for nothing?Copy !req
336. Please, miss, you shouldn't
be helping, it's not right.Copy !req
337. Don't be daft.
Sneed works you to death.Copy !req
338. How much do you get paid?Copy !req
339. Eight pound a year, miss.Copy !req
340. - How much?
- I know!Copy !req
341. I would've been happy with six.Copy !req
342. So did you even
go to school, or what?Copy !req
343. Of course I did,
what do you think I am, an urchin?Copy !req
344. I went every Sunday,
nice and proper.Copy !req
345. What, once a week?Copy !req
346. We did sums and everything.Copy !req
347. To be honest,
I hated every second.Copy !req
348. Me, too!Copy !req
349. Don't tell anyone...Copy !req
350. But one week I didn't go
and I ran down the Heath, all on my own.Copy !req
351. I did plenty of that. I used to go down the
shops with my mate shareen.Copy !req
352. And we used to go
and look at boys.Copy !req
353. Well, I don't know
much about that, miss.Copy !req
354. Oh, come on,
times haven't changed that much.Copy !req
355. - I bet you've done the same.
- I don't think so, miss.Copy !req
356. Gwyneth, you can tell me.Copy !req
357. I bet you've got
your eye on someone.Copy !req
358. I suppose, there is one lad.Copy !req
359. The butcher's boy,
he comes by every Tuesday.Copy !req
360. Such a lovely smile on him.Copy !req
361. I like a nice smile.Copy !req
362. Good smile, nice bum.Copy !req
363. Well, I have never
heard the like!Copy !req
364. Ask him out. Give him a cup of
tea or something, that's a start.Copy !req
365. I swear, it's the
strangest thing, miss.Copy !req
366. You've got all the clothes
and the breeding,Copy !req
367. but you talk like
some sort of wild thing.Copy !req
368. Maybe I am.Copy !req
369. Maybe that's a good thing.Copy !req
370. You need a bit more
in your life than mr sneed.Copy !req
371. Oh, now, that's not fair.Copy !req
372. He's not so bad, old sneed.Copy !req
373. He was very kind
to me to take me inCopy !req
374. because I lost
my mum and dad to the flu when I was 12.Copy !req
375. Oh, I'm sorry.Copy !req
376. Thank you, miss.
But I'll be with them again, one day.Copy !req
377. Sitting with them in paradise.Copy !req
378. I shall be so blessed.Copy !req
379. They're waiting for me.Copy !req
380. Maybe your dad's up there
waiting for you too, miss.Copy !req
381. Maybe.Copy !req
382. Um, who told you he was dead?Copy !req
383. I don't know,
must've been the doctor.Copy !req
384. My father died years back.Copy !req
385. You've been thinking about
him lately. More than ever.Copy !req
386. Suppose so.Copy !req
387. How do you know all this?Copy !req
388. Mr sneed says I think too much,Copy !req
389. I'm all alone down here.Copy !req
390. I bet you've got
dozens of servants, haven't you, miss?Copy !req
391. No, no servants where I'm from.Copy !req
392. And you've come such a long way.Copy !req
393. What makes you think so?Copy !req
394. You're from London.Copy !req
395. I've seen London in drawings,
but never like that,Copy !req
396. all those people rushing about.Copy !req
397. Half-naked, for shame.Copy !req
398. And the noise...Copy !req
399. And the metal boxes
racing past...Copy !req
400. And the birds
in the sky... no...Copy !req
401. No, they're metal as well.Copy !req
402. Metal birds with people in them.Copy !req
403. People are flying.Copy !req
404. And you. You've flown so far.
Further than anyone.Copy !req
405. The things you've seen.Copy !req
406. The darkness.Copy !req
407. The big bad wolf.Copy !req
408. I'm sorry. I'm sorry, miss.Copy !req
409. - It's all right.
- I can't help it.Copy !req
410. Ever since I was a little girl,
my mam said I had the sight.Copy !req
411. - She told me to hide it.
- But it's getting stronger,Copy !req
412. more powerful. Is that right?Copy !req
413. All the time, sir.Copy !req
414. Every night,Copy !req
415. voices in my head.Copy !req
416. You grew up
on top of the rift. You're part of it.Copy !req
417. You're the key.Copy !req
418. I've tried to
make sense of it, sir.Copy !req
419. Consulted with spiritualists,Copy !req
420. table-rappers, all sorts.Copy !req
421. Well, that should help.
You can show us what to do.Copy !req
422. What to do where, sir?Copy !req
423. We're going to have a seance.Copy !req
424. This is how
madam mortlockCopy !req
425. summons those from
the land of mists, down in big town.Copy !req
426. - Come. We must all join hands.
- I can't take part in this.Copy !req
427. Humbug? Come on. Open mind.Copy !req
428. This is precisely the sort of
cheap mummery I strive to unmask.Copy !req
429. Seances?Copy !req
430. Nothing but luminous
tambourines and a squeeze boxCopy !req
431. concealed between
the knees. This girl knows nothing.Copy !req
432. Now, don't antagonise her.
I love a happy medium.Copy !req
433. I can't believe
you just said that.Copy !req
434. Come on. We might need you.Copy !req
435. Good man.Copy !req
436. Now, Gwyneth. Reach out.Copy !req
437. Speak to us.Copy !req
438. Are you there?Copy !req
439. Spirits, come.Copy !req
440. Speak to us
that we may relieve your burden.Copy !req
441. Can you hear that?Copy !req
442. Nothing can happen,
this is sheer folly.Copy !req
443. Look at her.Copy !req
444. I see them!Copy !req
445. I feel them!Copy !req
446. What's it saying?Copy !req
447. It can't get through the rift.Copy !req
448. Gwyneth, it's not
controlling you, you're controlling it.Copy !req
449. - Now look deep. Allow them through.
- I can't.Copy !req
450. Yes, you can. Just believe it.
I have faith in you, Gwyneth.Copy !req
451. Make the link.Copy !req
452. Yes!Copy !req
453. Great god!Copy !req
454. Spirits from the other side!Copy !req
455. The other side of the universe.Copy !req
456. Pity us!Copy !req
457. Pity the gelth!Copy !req
458. There is so little time.
Help us!Copy !req
459. - What do you want us to do?
- The rift.Copy !req
460. Take the girl to the rift.
Make the bridge.Copy !req
461. What for?Copy !req
462. We are so very few.
The last of our kind.Copy !req
463. - We face extinction!
- Why, what happened?Copy !req
464. Once we had
a physical form, like you.Copy !req
465. But then the war came.Copy !req
466. - War? What war?
- The time war.Copy !req
467. The whole universe convulsed.Copy !req
468. The time war raged.Copy !req
469. Invisible to smaller species
but devastating to higher forms.Copy !req
470. Our bodies wasted away.Copy !req
471. We're trapped
in this gaseous state.Copy !req
472. So that's why you need
the corpses.Copy !req
473. We want to stand tall.Copy !req
474. To feel the sunlight.
To live again.Copy !req
475. We need a physical form
and your dead are abandoned.Copy !req
476. They go to waste.
Give them to us.Copy !req
477. - But we can't.
- Why not?Copy !req
478. It's not... I mean, it's not...Copy !req
479. Not decent? Not polite?
It could save their lives.Copy !req
480. Open the rift.
Let the gelth through.Copy !req
481. We're dying. Help us.
Pity the gelth!Copy !req
482. Gwyneth!Copy !req
483. All true.Copy !req
484. Are you okay?Copy !req
485. It's all true.Copy !req
486. It's all right. You just sleep.Copy !req
487. But my angels, miss!Copy !req
488. They came, didn't they?
They need me.Copy !req
489. They do need you, Gwyneth.
You're their only chance of survival.Copy !req
490. I've told you, leave her alone.Copy !req
491. She's exhausted
and she's not fighting your battles.Copy !req
492. Now, drink this.Copy !req
493. But what did you say, doctor?
Explain it again.Copy !req
494. - What are they?
- Aliens.Copy !req
495. Like, foreigners, you mean?Copy !req
496. Pretty foreign, yeah.
From up there.Copy !req
497. - Brecon?
- Close.Copy !req
498. And they've been trying to get
through from brecon to Cardiff,Copy !req
499. but the road's blocked.Copy !req
500. Only a few can get through
and even then they're weak.Copy !req
501. They can only test drive
the bodies for so long.Copy !req
502. Then they have to revert to
gas and hide in the pipes.Copy !req
503. Which is why they need the girl?Copy !req
504. - They're not having her.
- But she can help.Copy !req
505. Living on the rift,
she's become part of it.Copy !req
506. She can open it up,
make a bridge and let them through.Copy !req
507. Incredible.
Ghosts that are not ghostsCopy !req
508. but beings from another world,Copy !req
509. who can only exist
in our realm by inhabiting cadavers.Copy !req
510. Good system. It might work.Copy !req
511. You can't let them run around
inside of dead people!Copy !req
512. Why not? It's like recycling.Copy !req
513. - Seriously though, you can't.
- Seriously though, I can.Copy !req
514. But it's just wrong!Copy !req
515. Those bodies were living people.Copy !req
516. We should respect them,
even in death.Copy !req
517. Do you carry a donor card?Copy !req
518. - It's different, that's...
- It is different, yeah.Copy !req
519. It's a different morality.
Get used to it. Or go home.Copy !req
520. You heard what they said,
time's short.Copy !req
521. I can't worry about
a few corpsesCopy !req
522. when the last of the gelth
could be dying.Copy !req
523. I don't care,
they're not using her.Copy !req
524. Don't I get a say, miss?Copy !req
525. Well, yes... look...Copy !req
526. You don't understand
what's going on.Copy !req
527. You would say that, miss,
because that's very clear inside your head,Copy !req
528. that you think I'm stupid.Copy !req
529. - That's not fair.
- It's true though.Copy !req
530. Things might be
very different where you're from,Copy !req
531. but here and now,Copy !req
532. I know my own mind,Copy !req
533. and the angels need me.Copy !req
534. Doctor? What do I have to do?Copy !req
535. You don't have to do anything.Copy !req
536. They've been singing to me
since I was a child.Copy !req
537. Sent by my mam
on a holy mission, so tell me.Copy !req
538. We need to find the rift.Copy !req
539. This house is on a weak spot, so there must
be a spot that's weaker than any other.Copy !req
540. Mr sneed, what's the weakest
part of this house?Copy !req
541. The place where
most of the ghosts have been seen?Copy !req
542. That would be the morgue.Copy !req
543. No chance you were going
to say gazebo, is there?Copy !req
544. Huh!
Talk about bleak house.Copy !req
545. The thing is, doctor,
the gelth don't succeed,Copy !req
546. 'cause I know they don't.Copy !req
547. I know for a fact that
corpses weren't walking around in 1869.Copy !req
548. Time's in flux,
changing every second.Copy !req
549. Your cosy little world
can be rewritten like that.Copy !req
550. Nothing is safe.
Remember that. Nothing.Copy !req
551. Doctor, I think
the room is getting colder.Copy !req
552. Here they come.Copy !req
553. You've come to help!Copy !req
554. Praise the doctor! Praise him.Copy !req
555. Promise you won't hurt her.Copy !req
556. Hurry! Please!
So little time. Pity the gelth!Copy !req
557. I'll take you somewhere else
after the transfer.Copy !req
558. Somewhere you can build
proper bodies.Copy !req
559. This isn't a permanent
solution, all right?Copy !req
560. My angels! I can help them live.Copy !req
561. Okay, where's the weak point?Copy !req
562. Here, beneath the arch!Copy !req
563. Beneath the arch.Copy !req
564. You don't have to do this.Copy !req
565. My angels.Copy !req
566. Establish the bridge.
Reach out to the void. Let us through!Copy !req
567. Yes!Copy !req
568. I can see you.Copy !req
569. I can see you! Come!Copy !req
570. - Bridgehead establishing.
- Come to me.Copy !req
571. Come to this world.
Poor lost souls.Copy !req
572. It has begun!
The bridge is made.Copy !req
573. She has given herself
to the gelth!Copy !req
574. Rather a lot of them, eh?Copy !req
575. The bridge is open. We descend.Copy !req
576. The gelth will
come through in force.Copy !req
577. You said that
you were few in number!Copy !req
578. A few billion!
And all of us in need of corpses!Copy !req
579. Now, Gwyneth, stop this.Copy !req
580. Listen to your master!Copy !req
581. This has gone far enough.
Stop dabbling, child,Copy !req
582. and leave these things
alone, I beg of you.Copy !req
583. Mr sneed, get back!Copy !req
584. I think it's going
a little bit wrong.Copy !req
585. I have joined the legions
of the gelth.Copy !req
586. Come, march with us.Copy !req
587. Oh, glory!Copy !req
588. We need bodies.
All of you, dead.Copy !req
589. The human race, dead.Copy !req
590. Gwyneth, stop them!
Send them back, now!Copy !req
591. Three more bodies! Convert them!Copy !req
592. Make them vessels for the gelth!Copy !req
593. Doctor, I can't! I'm sorry.Copy !req
594. This new world of yours,
it's too much for me.Copy !req
595. I'm so...Copy !req
596. Give yourself to glory.Copy !req
597. Sacrifice your lives
to the gelth.Copy !req
598. I trusted you. I pitied you!Copy !req
599. We don't want your pity!
We want this world and all its flesh.Copy !req
600. Not while I'm alive.Copy !req
601. Then live no more.Copy !req
602. But I can't die.
Tell me I can't.Copy !req
603. I haven't even been born yet,
it's impossible for me to die.Copy !req
604. Isn't it?Copy !req
605. I'm sorry.Copy !req
606. Failing! Atmosphere hostile!Copy !req
607. Gas!Copy !req
608. The gas!Copy !req
609. But it's 1869,
how can I die now?Copy !req
610. Time isn't a straight line,
it can twist into any shape.Copy !req
611. You can be born
in the 20th century and die in the 19th.Copy !req
612. And it's all my fault.Copy !req
613. I brought you here.Copy !req
614. It's not your fault.Copy !req
615. - I wanted to come.
- What about me?Copy !req
616. I saw the fall of Troy.
World war five.Copy !req
617. I pushed boxes
at the Boston tea party.Copy !req
618. Now I'm gonna die in a dungeon,Copy !req
619. in Cardiff!Copy !req
620. And it's not just dying.Copy !req
621. We're gonna become one of them.Copy !req
622. We'll go down fighting, yeah?Copy !req
623. - Yeah. Yeah.
- Together?Copy !req
624. I'm so glad I met you.Copy !req
625. Me, too.Copy !req
626. Doctor! Doctor!
Turn off the flame, turn up the gas.Copy !req
627. Now fill the room!
All of it, now!Copy !req
628. - What are you doing?
- Turn it all on!Copy !req
629. Flood the place!Copy !req
630. Brilliant, gas!Copy !req
631. What, so we choke
to death instead?Copy !req
632. Am I correct, doctor?Copy !req
633. These creatures are gaseous.Copy !req
634. Fill the room with gas,
it'll draw them out of the host.Copy !req
635. Suck them into the air
like poison from a wound!Copy !req
636. I hope... oh, lord!Copy !req
637. I hope that this theory
will be validated soon.Copy !req
638. If not immediately.Copy !req
639. Plenty more.Copy !req
640. It's working!Copy !req
641. Gwyneth, send them back.
They lied, they're not angels!Copy !req
642. - Liars?Copy !req
643. - Look at me.Copy !req
644. If your mother and father could look down
and see this, they'd tell you the same.Copy !req
645. They'd give you the strength.
Now send them back!Copy !req
646. - Can't breathe.
- Charles, get her out.Copy !req
647. I'm not leaving her.
They're too strong.Copy !req
648. Remember that world you saw?Copy !req
649. Rose's world? All those people.Copy !req
650. None of it will exist unless
you send them back through the rift!Copy !req
651. I can't send them back.Copy !req
652. But I can hold them.Copy !req
653. Hold them in this place.
Hold them here.Copy !req
654. Get out.Copy !req
655. - You can't!
- Leave this place.Copy !req
656. Rose, get out, go now.Copy !req
657. I won't leave her while
she's still in danger. Now go!Copy !req
658. Come on. Leave that to me.Copy !req
659. This way! (Coughing)Copy !req
660. I'm sorry.Copy !req
661. Thank you.Copy !req
662. She didn't make it.Copy !req
663. I'm sorry. She closed the rift.Copy !req
664. At such a cost. The poor child.Copy !req
665. I did try, Rose,
but Gwyneth was already dead.Copy !req
666. She had been for at least
five minutes.Copy !req
667. What do you mean?Copy !req
668. I think she was dead
from the minute she stood in that arch.Copy !req
669. But she can't have,
she spoke to us,Copy !req
670. she helped us, she saved us.Copy !req
671. How could she have done that?Copy !req
672. There are more things
in heaven and earthCopy !req
673. than are dreamt of
in your philosophy.Copy !req
674. Even for you, doctor.Copy !req
675. She saved the world.Copy !req
676. A servant girl.
No one will ever know.Copy !req
677. Right then, Charlie boy,
I've just got to go into my, um, shed.Copy !req
678. Won't be long.Copy !req
679. What are you going to do now?Copy !req
680. I shall take the mail-coach
back to London, quite literally post-haste.Copy !req
681. This is no time for me
to be on my own.Copy !req
682. I shall spend Christmas
with my family and make amends to them.Copy !req
683. After all I've learnt tonight,
there can be nothing more vital.Copy !req
684. - You've cheered up.
- Exceedingly!Copy !req
685. (Chuckles) This morning,
I thought I knew everything in the world.Copy !req
686. Now I know I've just started.Copy !req
687. All these huge
and wonderful notions, doctor!Copy !req
688. I am inspired,
I must write about them!Copy !req
689. Do you think that's wise?Copy !req
690. I shall be subtle, at first.Copy !req
691. The mystery of Edwin drood
still lacks an ending.Copy !req
692. Perhaps the killer
was not the boy's uncle.Copy !req
693. Perhaps he was
not of this earth!Copy !req
694. "The mystery of Edwin drood
and the blue elementals!"Copy !req
695. I can spread the word,
tell the truth!Copy !req
696. Good luck with it.Copy !req
697. Nice to meet you, fantastic.Copy !req
698. Bye, then. And thanks.Copy !req
699. Oh, my dear!Copy !req
700. How modern.Copy !req
701. Thank you.
But I don't understand,Copy !req
702. in what way is this goodbye?Copy !req
703. - Where are you going?
- You'll see. In the shed.Copy !req
704. Upon my soul, doctor,
it's one riddle after another with you.Copy !req
705. But after all these revelations,Copy !req
706. there's one mystery
you still haven't explained.Copy !req
707. Answer me this...Copy !req
708. Who are you?Copy !req
709. Just a friend. Passing through.Copy !req
710. But you have
such knowledge of future times.Copy !req
711. I don't wish to impose on you
but I must ask you...Copy !req
712. My books, doctor, do they last?Copy !req
713. Oh, yes.Copy !req
714. For how long?Copy !req
715. Forever.Copy !req
716. Right.Copy !req
717. Shed. Come on, Rose.Copy !req
718. What? In the box? Both of you?Copy !req
719. Down, boy. See ya.Copy !req
720. Doesn't that change
history, if he writes about blue ghosts?Copy !req
721. In a week's time, it's 1870.Copy !req
722. And that's the year
he dies. Sorry.Copy !req
723. He'll never get
to tell his story.Copy !req
724. Oh, no. He was so nice.Copy !req
725. But in your time,
he was already dead.Copy !req
726. We've brought him back to lifeCopy !req
727. and he's more alive now
than he's ever been. Old Charlie boy.Copy !req
728. Let's give him
one last surprise.Copy !req
729. - Merry Christmas, sir.
- Merry Christmas to you!Copy !req
730. God bless us. Every one.Copy !req
731. Big Ben destroyed as a ufo
crash lands in central London.Copy !req
732. What is it, then?
Are they invading?Copy !req
733. Funny way to invade,
putting the world on red alert.Copy !req
734. By god, I'll put this country
under marshal law if I have to.Copy !req
735. Defence plan delta!
Come on. Move! Move!Copy !req
736. Clear!Copy !req
